As you revisit 2020 with us, we hope that you are inspired by the events and activities that took place during a very unique year. Our primary goal is to provide critical opportunities throughout the state that ensure awareness of and underline the importance of the humanities. With the onset of the pandemic, Maryland Humanities quickly pivoted to provide online learning opportunities, as well as emergency relief funding to the most vulnerable of our colleague organizations.

The Maryland Humanities Council creates and supports educational experiences in the humanities that inspire all Marylanders to embrace lifelong learning, exchange ideas openly, and enrich their communities. Through collaborations with local partners in every county and Baltimore City, we offer the humanities both for their inherent pleasure and for their tremendous power to transform. Thank you for joining us on this journey—we can’t do this important work without you.

The Maryland Humanities Council (MHC) experienced tremendous growth in 2012. This was possible through the extraordinary generosity of people like you: engaged, committed individuals who stepped up to provide financial support and attend MHC events.

The humanities are all about reflection. Applying critical thinking skills to address the challenging issues facing our communities today is not a luxury. Understanding history, ethics, literature, philosophy, and other disciplines encourages participation in civic dialogue. You rely on the humanities to bring perspective and balance to your world every day. The Maryland Humanities Council relies on you to help foster the vital work we do across the state.
