Objective: To investigate the effect of slider and tensioner neurodynamic techniques (NDTs) on the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity, aiming to identify which technique more effectively modulates autonomic responses in asymptomatic individuals. Materials and Methods: In this double-blind controlled trial, a total of 90 healthy participants were randomly allocated into three groups: slider, tensioner, and control. Skin conductance (SC) was continuously monitored throughout the entire 20 min experiment, while body temperature and blood pressure were measured pre- and post-intervention. Results: The SC levels significantly increased in both the slider and tensioner groups compared to the control group during the intervention and end rest period on the left leg (slider vs. control: p < 0.001, d = 1.20; tensioner vs. control: p < 0.001, d = 1.64) and on the right leg (slider vs. control: p < 0.001, d = 1.47; tensioner vs. control: p < 0.001, d = 0.73). There were no significant differences between the two NDTs on the left (p < 0.13, d = 0.89) and right legs (p < 1.00, d = 0.36). The body temperature of the slider group showed a significant increase compared to both the control group (p < 0.001, d = 0.95) and the tensioner group (p < 0.001, d = 1.48). There were no significant differences between the groups in systolic (p = 0.95) or diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.06). There were no side-specific effects on SNS activity between the left and right legs (p < 0.019) during all intervention phases. Conclusions: Significant sympathoexcitatory responses were elicited by both slider and tensioner NDTs in asymptomatic participants, demonstrating their efficacy in modulating the SNS. The differences between the two techniques were not statistically significant; however, the tensioner NDT showed a slightly more pronounced effect, suggesting that the tensioner NDT can be considered superior in terms of overall SNS effect. These findings indicate that both techniques may have the potential to enhance autonomic regulation in clinical practice; however, the tensioner NDT may be more effective. The consistent responses across participants highlight the systemic benefits of NDTs, providing a foundation for further research into their application in symptomatic populations. We aimed to determine the effects of three-direction movement control focus complex pain program (3D-MCE) and neurodynamic focus complex pain program (NDT) on pain, mechanosensitivity, and body function in Taekwondo athletes with non-specific low back pain. This study used a two-group pretest–posttest design and was conducted at a university physiotherapy lab and training center. It included 21 Taekwondo athletes with non-specific low back pain from a Taekwondo studio and a University in Busan. Participants were divided into a 3D-MCE group (n = 10) and an NDT group (n = 10). The numerical rating pain scale (NRPS), pain pressure threshold (PPT), movement analysis, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were measured before and after the intervention. The intervention was performed for 45 min twice a week for 4 weeks. Each group performed movement control exercises and neurodynamic techniques. The NRPS, motion analysis, and ODI were significantly changed after the intervention in the 3-DMCE group. The NRPS, PPT, and ODI changed significantly after the intervention in the NDT group. Moreover, the PPT and motion analysis showed significant differences between the two groups. For Taekwondo athletes with non-specific low back pain, 3D-MCE improved the stability control ability of the lumbar spine. Purpose Neurodynamic mobilization is a set of passive or active movements aimed at restoring the neural system’s ability to bear the normal compressive, friction, and tensile stresses encountered in daily life. This study aimed to investigate the effect of neurodynamic mobilization on sensory and motor nerve conduction studies, pain, and functional activity in patients with type 2 diabetic neuropathy (DN). Methods A total of 42 patients were randomly assigned to the neurodynamic mobilization group (NMG) or selected therapy program group (STPG). Electrophysiological measurements for median sensory and tibial motor nerve conduction velocity, and functional activity were conducted using the Katz Index of Independence, while pain was evaluated using the visual analogue scale. Results Improvement was noted in the post-treatment median sensory ( p = 0.002) and tibial motor ( p < 0.001) nerve conduction velocity, functional activity ( p < 0.001), and pain ( p < 0.001), and a statistically significant difference was demonstrated for the NMG, but not for the STPG. Conclusions Neurodynamic mobilization improved the sensory and motor nerve conduction velocity, functional activity, and pain in patients with type 2 DN.

Background Physiotherapy of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) involves manual therapy based on neurodynamic techniques. Until now, two randomized controlled trials have shown that immediately after therapy, CTS patients who received neurodynamic techniques had significant improvement in nerve conduction, pain, symptom severity (SSS), functional state (FSS), muscle strength (MS) and two-point discrimination (2PD). However, long-term effects seem to be more important, as they are the only ones that can significantly improve the patient’s health and influence economic and social costs. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term (six months) effects of neurodynamic techniques in the conservative treatment of CTS patients. Methods Carpal tunnel syndrome patients (107) from two previously published randomised clinical trials were observed for six months after the treatment based on neurodynamic techniques. Background The slump test is a type of neurodynamic test that is believed to evaluate the mechanosensitivity of the neuromeningeal structures within the vertebral canal. The objective of this review was to investigate the effectiveness of slump stretching on back pain and disability in patients with low back pain (LBP). Methods We searched eight electronic databases (PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Ovid, CINAHL, Embase, PEDro, Google Scholar, CENTRAL). The publication language was restricted to English, and we searched the full time period available for each database, up to October 2017. Our primary outcomes were pain and disability, and the secondary outcome was range of motion (ROM). Results We identified 12 eligible studies with 515 LBP patients. All included studies reported short-term follow-up. A large effect size (standardized mean difference [SMD] = –2.15, 95% confidence interval [CI] = –3.35 to –0.95) and significant effect were determined, favoring the use of slump stretching to decrease pain in patients with LBP. In addition, large effect sizes and significant results were also found for the effect of slump stretching on disability improvement (SMD = –8.03, 95% CI = –11.59 to –4.47) in the LBP population. A qualitative synthesis of results showed that slump stretching can significantly increase straight leg raise and active knee extension ROM. Conclusions There is very low to moderate quality of evidence that slump stretching may have positive effects on pain in people with LBP. However, the quality of evidence for the benefits of slump stretching on disability was very low. Finally, it appears that patients with nonradicular LBP may benefit most from slump stretching compared with other types of LBP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
