The paper seeks to explore the internal form of the central characters’ names in the Eddic Skírnir’s Journey. Proper names mentioned in the song are regarded as relevant markers of the plot that echoes the fertility myth. The author aims to substantiate that the genre structure of the song is shaped by semantic motivations behind character names, and to prove that the same logic extends to other genres represented in the song with their linguistic and stylistic peculiarities. “Speaking” names with explicitly expressed semantic motivations are the key to an adequate interpretation of the Eddic song Skírnir’s Journey that presents Skírnir as a “shining” mediator likened to a sunbeam, contributing to the marriage of Freyr, the god of fertility and one of the V anir, and the giantess Gerðr of the jötunns, that personifies the “fenced-in” Earth. The cult of fertility is the most archaic layer, the mythological implication of the plot of the song. The transparency of the internal form of the names, reflecting the nature of the respective characters, attests to the semantic openness typical of “nominative” texts which serve exclusively as a verbal act illustrating the creative function of naming. These names refer directly to the creation myth as their precedent; they also determine the functions of a particular genre as part of the studied Eddic song. Настоящая статья посвящена анализу внутренней формы имен главных персонажей эддической «Поездки Скирнира». Имена собственные рассматриваются как релевантные маркеры сюжета песни, реализующего миф плодородия. Наша задача заключается в том, чтобы обосновать гипотезу о детерминированности жанровой структуры песни семантическими мотивировками имен основных действующих лиц и доказать обусловленность различных жанров, репрезентированных в составе этой песни, с типичными для них лингвостилистическими характеристиками, внутренней формой имен собственных, которые фигурируют в песне. «Говорящие» имена с эксплицитно выраженными семантическими мотивировками — ключ к адекватной интерпретации эддической песни «Поездка Скирнира», посвященной описанию медиатора Скирнира — «сияющего», сравнимого с солнечным лучом, способствующего соединению бога плодородия, вана по происхождению Фрейра и олицетворяющей землю как «огороженное пространство» великанши Герд. Культ плодородия составляет наиболее архаичный пласт, мифологический подтекст сюжета песни. Прозрачность внутренней формы имен, отражающих сущность соответствующих персонажей, реализует установку на принципиальную открытость, типичную для «номинативных» текстов, основной целью которых является исключительно вербальный акт — номинация, иллюстрирующая креативную функцию называния. Эти имена отсылают непосредственно к мифу творения, прецеденту; они также детерминируют функционирование того или иного жанра в составе исследуемой эддической песни. У статті досліджено питання семіотизації Cходу як сторони світу. Історико-генетичне вивчення, зорієнтоване на діахронічне й парадигматичне вивчення «мови» простору як цілісного феномену знаково-символічної системи білоруського фольклору, доповнюється функціонально-семантичним дослідженням. На білоруському фольклорно-етнографічному матеріалі ХІХ – початку ХХІ століть розкриваються особливості реалізації символіки Сходу як елемента просторового коду в різних ритуально-значимих ситуаціях сімейної, календарної, оказіональної обрядовості й буденного життя, а також усно-поетичних текстах. Особливу увагу приділено дослідженню дискурсу семіотизації цієї частини світу в народно-медичних і матримоніальних магічних практиках та відповідних замовляннях, де елемент просторового коду має першорядне значення, повернення обличчя і рух на Схід виступає стрижневою лінією ритуальної поведінки, реалізує, серед іншого, ідею «новизни», «чистоти», яка відсилає до космо- й антропогонічної ситуації першопочатку, «золотого віку», коли новостворений світ був чистим, гармонійним, досконалим. Розгляд різних обрядово-текстових реалізацій символіки Сходу дає підставу зробити висновок, що його «міфоритуальний ресурс» пов’язаний з актуалізацією позитивних значень. The article is devoted to the semiotization of east as a cardinal direction. Historical and genetic studies that focus on paradigmatic and diachronic study of the «language» of the space as an integral phenomenon of sign-symbolic system of the Belarusian folklore, complemented by a functional-semantic research. In the Belarusian folklore and ethnographic material 19 – early 21 centuries are revealed features of the implementation of the East as part of the symbolism of the spatial code in different ritually significant situations of family, calendar, and occasional rituals of everyday life, as well as oral and poetic texts. Particular attention is paid to the discussion of discourse semiotization this part of the world in peopleʼs health and matrimonial magical practices and the related plots, where the element of spatial code plays a pivotal role, turning face and movement to the east stands the core line of ritual behavior, implements, among other things, the idea of «novelty» «purity «that refers to a cosmopolitan and anthropogonic situation ultimate beginning, the» golden age «when the newly created world was pure, harmonious, perfect. Consideration of various ritual and symbolism east text implementations allows to conclude that his «life mythos-ritual» associated with the actualization of positive connotations.
