In correcting the problems of children with health limitations, the most effective are methods of pedagogical assistance, such as behavioral therapy, occupational (ergotherapy), various types of art therapy (including music), adaptive physical education, occupational therapy (training through manual labor), gaming technology, etc. Among the rehabilitation tools of children with health limitation, classes in musical folklore in general and singing, in particular, occupy a central place. Training based on musical folklore is an intense process since it involves a lot of body functions and establishes the necessary connections between the neurons of the brain. Creative activity is inseparable from the healthy development and human activity in the course of cognition, development and transformation of the world and oneself. The creative activity reveals the intellectual potential of the individual, who implements both innate and acquired abilities and skills. Musical art therapeutic technologies aimed at overcoming psychological problems and the development of emotional perception of children are widely used in the world pedagogical practice. However, music is able to do more; it can enhance the development of communicative and cognitive abilities in children with delayed psycho-verbal development and autistic children, which is proved by the conducted study. Learning music is as intense process as learning to read, write, and count. That is why music classes based on children's folklore are one of the most effective tools in correcting the problems of children with health limitations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pain is a major problem in sick newborn infants, especially for those needing intensive care. Pharmacological pain relief is the most commonly used, but might be ineffective and has side effects, including long-term neurodevelopmental sequelae. The effectiveness and safety of alternative analgesic methods are ambiguous. The objective was to review the effectiveness and safety of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief in newborn infants and to identify those that are the most effective. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched using the terms: “infant”, “premature”, “pain”, “acupuncture”, “skin-to-skin contact”, “sucrose”, “massage”, “musical therapy” and ‘breastfeeding’. We included 24 studies assessing different methods of non-pharmacological analgesic techniques. Most resulted in some degree of analgesia but many were ineffective and some were even detrimental. Sucrose, for example, was often ineffective but was more effective than music therapy, massage, breast milk (for extremely premature infants) or non-invasive electrical stimulation acupuncture. There were also conflicting results for acupuncture, skin-to-skin care and musical therapy. Most non-pharmacological methods of analgesia provide a modicum of relief for preterm infants, but none are completely effective and there is no clearly superior method. Study is also required to assess potential long-term consequences of any of these methods.

Gait and balance impairments are common after stroke. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a music-based rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) in combination with conventional physiotherapy on gait parameters and walking ability in subacute stroke. This single-blind, historical controlled trial, included 55 patients who had suffered a stroke within the three weeks prior to enrolment. Patients from 2018 (n = 27) were assigned as the historical control group whereas 2019 patients (n = 28) received music-based RAS three times a week. Both groups received 11 h of conventional physiotherapy per week during hospitalization. Primary outcomes were gait and balance parameters (Tinetti test and Timed Up&, Go test) and walking ability (Functional Ambulation Category scale). Secondary outcomes were trunk control, assistive devices, functional independence (Functional Independence Measure, Barthel index), and stroke severity and disability (modified Rankin scale, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale). Results: No between-group differences were identified for gait and balance parameters nor for secondary outcomes. Significant between-group differences were observed in the Functional Ambulation Category: the intervention group (Δmean ± SD, 3.43 ± 1.17) showed greater improvement (p = 0.002) than the control group (Δmean ± SD, 2.48 ± 1.09). Compared with conventional physiotherapy alone, our results suggest that the walking ability of subacute stroke patients might be improved with music-based RAS combined with conventional physiotherapy, but this treatment is not more effective than conventional physiotherapy in obtaining gait and balance gains.

One doprinose djetetovu cjelovitu razvoju to jest, dolazi do spoznajnog, socio-emocionalnog i tjelesnog razvoja. Visual and musical art education have an impact on the development of the child's personality and it's competencies like observation, analysis, imagination, memory, thinking and creative thinking. Music and visual art are related to each other and a child like to express itself with them. They have contribution to child's intregrated development- cognitive, socio-emotional and physical development. Educators need to provide different incentives to help them to fully develop. In this paper I will discuss psychological determinants that result from the artistic and musical expression of early and preschool age children.

The diploma thesis explores the influence of music on the personal development of people in marginal and extreme life situations. In the theoretical part it presents music in its history, its great influence on human personality development and obviously ways to cope with demanding and difficult life situations. The diploma thesis tries to document the life stories of people, who find themselves in extremely limited life situations and these people solved their situation through music and musical self education. The diploma thesis examines, investigates and assesses and evaluates it from position of music educator and examines how music influenced the quality of their lives during health disorders and distabilities and social exclusion. Voted and selected qualitative research strategy helping by using a structured interview technique with three respondents was to obtain and get relevant replies and answers to research questions how they experienced the difficult life situations with the help of music, next, how they have dealt with extreme life situations, and, last time, how the experience of their difficult life situations has been assessed by the educator. The diploma thesis confirmed the assumption that music as an art and instrument of music therapy can be used regularly in direct social work with those people, which they find themselves in difficult life situations as a means of improving their lives.

Introduction: Scientific literature suggests that music may serve as therapeutic function among populations with different illnesses or disorders. Functional neuroimaging studies that incorporate music activity or music method shown an increase activation in several brain areas, with widespread bilateral hemodynamic responses in occipital lobe, bilateral cerebellum, temporal lobe, in the right lateral prefrontal cortex as well hemodynamic responses in the left middle frontal gyrus.Music activity can have effects that improve the psychological health of individuals. These improvements refer to modulation of emotion, neurocognition, and behaviour. Another important conclusion is the social function of the music. Music seems to be capable of engaging in social behaviour, involves communication, increase interindividual trust , improve social cohesion of the group. In summary, making music is an activity that involves several social functions. However, is it possible to improve quality of life with music method in severe mental illness? The term severe mental illness (SMI) has been used to refer psychiatric disorders that are persistent over time and that result in serious impairment in one or more domains of functioning, such as social relations, employment, and family relations. Meta-analytical studies have found a relationship between severity of disorder and quality of life measures. The use of music stimuli to convey information may imbue the learning experience with positive emotional associations. Thereby, scientific literature suggests that music may serve a therapeutic function among populations with SMI, including overall reduction in psychotic symptoms, reduction in negative symptoms of schizophrenia, improved social functioning and increase in subjective sense of community participation, decreased social isolation and increased level of interest in external events. The stigma of mental illness remains a powerful negative attribute in all-social relations. Discrimination is also about the conditions in which our patients live in their community. The stigma of severe mental disorders contributes to social isolation and social exclusion. The main goal is social integration of people with SMI in the community through music investigating the quality of life and self-esteem outcomes.Method: The musical activity consists on choral singing 1 hour a week conducted by a professional music with training in music pedagogy and learning strategies and patterns of emotional modulation led by a psychologist.Persons with and without mental illness favouring social integration form the choral group.Different aspects that are promoted:• Musical practice: choral singing, musical language, rhythm, intonation, and technique voice-articulation.• Neurocognitive strategies are directed by the psychologist to improve attention, memory executive function and emotional modulation.• Psychomotor skills aimed to improving the appropriate tone for action and facial and body gestures.• Social skills: active listening, empathy, motivation to belonging to a group.• Participants create a common artistic project: Concert Performance.• Decisions concerning the group are made in assemblies, in which the whole grou take part. People are distributed depending on their vocal tone (soprano, alto, tenor and bass).Outcomes measures: The Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES; Rosenberg, 1965) and The Quality of Life Scale of WHO Spanish version (WHOQOL Bref, Lucas C. 1998) were assessed in baseline and at post condition ( 12 month of choral sessions). Results: Twenty-six people were recruited to the study of whom 13 with SMI and 12 without mental illness. The mean age was 46 years, and de gender were 11 male ( 44%). Statistical analysis shown that people with SMI achieved significant improvement over time in terms of Quality of life and self-esteem measurements. Conclusions: Performing musical activity, specifically choral singing (1hour a week) with SMI along with other people without mental problems promotes social integration.Facilitating contact between people with and without mental illness by creating a common artistic project prevents social isolation of SMI and promotes the wellbeing.

Results: Twenty-six people were recruited to the study of whom 13 with SMI and 12 without mental illness. The mean age was 46 years, and de gender were 11 male (44%). Statistical analysis shown that people with SMI achieved significant improvement over time in terms of Quality of life and self-esteem measurements. Conclusions: Performing musical activity, specifically choral singing (1hour a week) with SMI along with other people without mental problems promotes social integration. Facilitating contact between people with and without mental illness by creating a common artistic project prevents social isolation of SMI and promotes the wellbeing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Pain is a major problem in sick newborn infants, especially for those needing intensive care. Pharmacological pain relief is the most commonly used, but might be ineffective and has side effects, including long-term neurodevelopmental sequelae. The effectiveness and safety of alternative analgesic methods are ambiguous. The objective was to review the effectiveness and safety of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief in newborn infants and to identify those that are the most effective. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched using the terms: "infant", "premature", "pain", "acupuncture", "skin-to-skin contact", "sucrose", "massage", "musical therapy" and 'breastfeeding'.
