Bibliometric analysis of highly cited papers facilitates researchers in formulating strategic research possibilities and addressing gaps in specific domains. In this context, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to identify published papers on "oral mucosal lesions in COVID-19" within medical literature. A comprehensive search was performed in the Scopus database in July 2023. Relevant articles were retrieved, reviewed, and data for the bibliometric analysis was recorded. Network visualization of authors, countries, and keywords was generated using VOSviewer software. The analyzed articles were published over the last three years, from 2020 to 2023, with the highest output observed in 2021. The citation count for individual papers ranged from 1 to 340, with a mean of 22.325 ± 58.93 citations. A total of 37 journals were involved in publishing papers on this topic, and five authors each contributed three papers. Notably, Brazil made the highest number of contributions with eight papers. Among the 40 papers, 19 were review papers and 16 were articles discussing various aspects of oral mucosal lesions in COVID-19 patients. Additionally, six papers were identified as systematic reviews, designated with a high level of evidence. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of papers published on "oral mucosal lesions in COVID-19." The findings will assist researchers in identifying impactful papers, understanding the prevailing research trends, and guiding future research directions in this domain. The mucosal-dominant variant of pemphigus vulgaris (MPV) is an autoimmune disease characterized by oral mucosal blistering and circulating pathogenic IgG antibodies against desmoglein 3 (Dsg3), resulting in life-threatening bullae and erosion formation. Recently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as promising players in the diagnosis and prognosis of several pathological states. For the first time, we have identified a different expression profile of miRNAs isolated from plasma-derived exosomes (P-EVs) of MPV patients positive for antibodies against Dsg3 (Dsg3-positive) compared to healthy controls. Moreover, a dysregulated miRNA profile was confirmed in MPV tissue biopsies. In particular, a strong downregulation of the miR-148a-3p expression level in P-EVs of MPV patients compared to healthy controls was demonstrated. Bioinformatics prediction analysis identifies metalloproteinase-7 (MMP7) as a potential miR-148a-3p target. An in vitro acantholysis model revealed that the miR-148a-3p expression level was dramatically downregulated after treatment with Dsg3 autoantibodies, with a concomitant increase in MMP7 expression. The increased expression of MMP7 leads to the disruption of intercellular and/or extracellular matrix adhesion in an in vitro cellular model of MPV, with subsequent cell dissociation. Overexpression of miR-148a-3p prevented cell dissociation and regressed MMP7 upregulation. Our findings suggest a pivotal role of P-EV cargo in regulating molecular mechanisms involved in MPV pathogenesis and indicate them as potential MPV therapeutic targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anti-p200 pemphigoid is a relatively rare subepidermal autoimmune bullous disease (AIBD), which was firstly reported by Detlef Zillikens, Takashi Hashimoto and others in 1996. Skin lesions are considered as the major clinical features of this disease, with occasional involvement of mucosal lesions. The mechanism of mucosal lesions involved in anti-p200 pemphigoid is still unclear. In the present study, we aimed to analyze published data on cases and case series of anti-p200 pemphigoid with mucosal lesions and explored the potential contribution of anti-p200 autoantibodies to mucosal lesions. A total of 32 papers that comprised 52 anti-p200 pemphigoid patients with various mucosal lesions were included in this review. Oral lesions were involved in 75.0% patients, followed by genital lesions (26.9%) and ocular lesions (11.54%). Only one patient had psoriasis, 26.9% patients had multiple mucosal lesions, and 30.8% cases had comorbidity of other AIBDs, particularly anti-laminin (LM) 332-type mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP). In comparison with anti-LM332-type MMP, anti-BP180-type MMP and epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, higher frequency of genital lesions was identified as a unique character of anti-p200 pemphigoid with mucosal lesions. These results indicated that anti-p200 autoantibodies might contribute to mucosal lesions in a pattern different from other MMP-related autoantibodies, although its pathogenetic mechanisms are still unclear. The mucosa layer, the innermost layer of the gastrointestinal (GI) system, is of great importance in carcinogenesis since most cancerous tissues occur as superficial lesions. Although various treatment strategies exist, the main difficulty in eradicating lesions is unintentional damage to healthy tissues with the uncontrolled depth of treatment. This study proposes a computer modeling approach for simulating depth-resolved photothermal (laser) mucosal coagulation therapy. Computer modeling mimics the thermal dynamics of mucosal tissue to characterize the total heat energy required for successful superficial coagulation, which can be controlled by the scan rate, scan time, output power, and beam diameter of the applied laser. It consists of three steps: 1) Monte Carlo simulation to generate a laser energy distribution profile. 2) Heat transfer simulation to calculate the resulting tissue temperature. 3) Thermal damage estimation based on the calculated dead cell ratio. This computer modeling was performed for a laser wavelength of 1500 nm. Transient temperature profiles and a corresponding thermal damage map were generated as functions of laser scanning speed, power, and beam diameter. The guide map estimates that mucosal coagulation can be achieved with the accurate depth limits at 1500 nm laser wavelength, 1 mm beam diameter, 0.33-0.43 W/cm2 irradiation range, and 1-3 mm/s scanning speeds. This computing approach may hold promise in determining optimal therapy parameters for depth-resolved adequate coagulation in a single session with further development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Smoking and chewing tobacco carry significant risks for the development of oral cancer and premalignant lesions. The present study was conducted to find the prevalence of tobacco-related habits in Hazaribagh population and its association with oral mucosal lesion. Methodology: The present study was carried out on patients who visited the Department of Oral Medicine And Radiology, Hazaribagh College of Dental Sciences And Hospital. A total of 5,000 subjects were screened for tobacco-related habits and associated mucosal changes. Detailed clinical history about tobacco-related habits was obtained. Oral mucosal lesions were screened using the WHO format for diagnosis of oral lesions. The findings were tabulated and analyzed statistically. Results: Of the 5,000 subjects enrolled for the study, 1,085 (21.7%) used tobacco in some forms. Habit of smoking tobacco was present among 273 (25.2%) and using smokeless tobacco among 811 (74.7%) individuals. Tobacco pouch keratosis (46.1%) was found to be most common lesion, followed by oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) (16.1%), lichenoid reaction (14.1%), smokers palate/melanosis (12.2%), leukoplakia (7.2%), erythroplakia (2.3%), and oral cancer in (2%). Conclusion: The results provide insight into prevalent tobacco habits and associated oral mucosal lesions in Hazaribagh population. These may act as baseline data for the formulation of preventive programs and help future studies explore the prevalence of tobacco-associated lesions in vulnerable populations. Current knowledge, including findings from the present study, about the prevalence of tobacco use and various oral lesions associated with it may help primary health care physicians to promote among patients visiting them the awareness about the adverse effects of tobacco consumption and treatment options available for tobacco-related lesions at the early stage.

Erosive and ulcerative lesions of the squamous and glandular gastric mucosa are a common disease of the equine stomach. In the past, these lesions in different regions of the mucosa were summarized as one disease (Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome) and research focused mainly on the squamous gastric mucosa. Today, findings raised awareness of different underlying pathologies depending on the gastric region. This led to the development of a more precise terminology and the differentiation in Equine Squamous Gastric Disease (ESGD) and Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD). However, therapy especially of the glandular regions (EGGD) is challenging as treatment protocols such as omeprazole/sucralfate seem less effective as the effects are on squamous lesions. The retrospective study was performed to investigate the efficacy of a monotherapy with misoprostol in comparison to omeprazole/sucralfate and a combined therapy of omeprazole and misoprostol. Therefore, 67 horses which underwent gastroscopic examination were included in the study. The horses were either presented due to acute colic as an emergency and examined during the hospitalisation or had been referred due to behavioural abnormalities and intermittent mild colic symptoms. The horses had glandular and squamous gastric lesions and the group included 31 geldings, 35 mares and one stallion. 50 of the equine patients were Warmblood horses and 17 of them were ponies. Scoring was performed following suggestions of the Consensus statement of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (2015) and Banse and Andrews (2019). Findings before and after treatment were evaluated retrospectively. 29 horses were treated with omeprazole (2–4mg/kg q. 24h) and sucralfate (12mg/kg q. 12h), 28 horses were treated with misoprostol (5µg/ kg q. 12h) and 10 horses were treated with omeprazole (2–4mg/kg q. 24h) and misoprostol (5µg/kg q. 12h). Mean duration of therapy was 28 days (omeprazole/sucralfate and misoprostol) and 35 days (omeprazole/misoprostol). The horses were discharged from the clinic after the first gastroscopic examination and respective treatment was done at home by their owners until the follow-up examination. A detailed medication protocol was explained and given to the owners as well as a feeding and management advice. Four horses were excluded from the study because they developed mild colic symptoms and lethargy under therapy with misoprostol. Mean EGGD scores decreased significantly under therapy with misoprostol in all examined localisations as follows: fundus p=0.005, antrum pyloricum p=0.003, pylorus p=0.001. Significant improvements after therapy with omeprazole/sucralfate in the glandular region included exclusively the pylorus (p=0,038). EGGD scores decreased non-significantly after treatment with omeprazole and misoprostol. Post-treatment ESGD scores did not show improvement after the therapy with omeprazole/sucralfate. Monotherapy with misoprostol was superior to omeprazole/sucralfate and omeprazole/misoprostol for ameliorating glandular lesions of the equine stomach. This resembles the results of Varley et al. (2019). There was no worsening of ESGD-lesions following therapy with misoprostol like it has been reported in a study of Pickles et al. (2020). Therapy with omeprazole and sucralfate had only little efficacy on lesions of the glandular mucosa and did not have positive effects on squamous lesions. To date, there is no compound containing misoprostol available for equine veterinary medicine in Germany. The authors highly request further research concerning alternative therapeutical options for horses with EGGD and the improvement of their availability for veterinary medicine in Germany. Objectives: The aim of this study was to reveal the relationship, if any, between gut microbiota and oral ulcers., Methods: We performed a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to estimate the roles of gut microbiota in mouth ulcers. The summary datasets of gut microbiota were from the largest genome-wide association study (GWAS) conducted by MiBioGen, and data of mouth ulcers were obtained from UK Biobank. Random effect inverse variance-weighted, weighted median, MR Egger, simple mode and weighted mode were used to estimate the relationship. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the heterogeneity and pleiotropy of instrumental variables. MR Steiger filtering was also applied to orient the causal direction., Results: Three gut microbiota taxa were positively associated with mouth ulcers: Holdemania (odds ratio [OR] = 1.005, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.001-1.009, P = .019), Oxalobacter (OR = 1.004, 95% CI: 1.000-1.007, P = .032), and Ruminococcaceae UCG011 (OR = 1.006, 95% CI: 1.001-1.011, P = .029), while 4 gut microbiota taxa were negatively associated with mouth ulcers: Actinobacteria (OR = 0.992, 95% CI: 0.985-1.000, P = .042), Lactobacillales (OR = 0.995, 95% CI: 0.990-1.000, P = .034), Oscillospira (OR = 0.990, 95% CI: 0.984-0.997, P = .007) and Phascolarctobacterium (OR = 0.992, 95% CI: 0.986-0.997, P = .003). Sensitivity analyses validated the robustness of the association in between., Conclusions: This MR study identified a strong association between the quality of gut microbiota and oral ulcers. Summary: Initially, it was reported that coronavirus 2019 disease (Covid‐19) affects respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological systems, but the oral, olfactory and integumentary systems are also involved. This review discusses various oral manifestations of Covid‐19 reported in the literature along with possible underlying mechanisms. The reported manifestations include taste impairment, oral mucosal changes (petechiae, ulcers, plaque‐like lesions, reactivation of herpes simplex virus 1(HSV1), geographical tongue and desquamative gingivitis) and dry mouth. The prominent location for mucosal lesions are tongue, palate and labial mucosa. The exact pathogenesis of these oral symptoms is not known. Angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) cell receptors are expressed in abundance on oral mucosa allowing severe acute respiratory syndrome‐coronavirus‐2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) to infect them. Gustatory impairment along with olfactory changes is now listed as a symptom of Covid‐19 by the World Health Organization, but further research is needed to confirm a link between reported additional oral symptoms and Covid‐19. Classically known as the "Great Imitator", the diagnosis of syphilis continues to be an enormous challenge. We describe a case of isolated oral lesions as the sole presentation of secondary syphilis and only clinical clue to previously undiagnosed human immunodeficiency virus infection. The current increase in new cases of syphilis is leading to reemergence of forgotten old scenarios, which physicians should bear in mind within the differential diagnosis of their daily practice.

Introduction Painful mucosal and cutaneous lesions are often less responsive or even refractory to systemic opioid analgesics. There is evidence suggesting that the effectiveness of topical morphine be restricted to inflammatory pain. The studied groups were small and the observation period relatively short. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness and safety of topical morphine for pain related to mucosal lesions and skin ulcers. Material and methods The study was a 14-day randomized placebo-controlled cross-over trial (RCT) with a 28-day follow-up open phase (OP). The trial was conducted in adult patients with localized cancer-related pain and treated with systemic opioids in an oncology center or home hospice. The patients administered 0.2% gel on the mucosal lesion or 0.2% ointment on the skin lesion by themselves, without restrictions regarding the number of doses per day. The primary measurements were mean pain intensity (MPI) and mean pain relief (MPR) on the numeric rating scale (NRS 0–10), and ITT analysis was performed. Results Thirty-five patients were randomized to the RCT, and all of them completed 14-day observation. The MPI before the treatment was NRS 5.9 and decreased to 2.5 after morphine (p < 0.0001 vs. placebo). The MPR was 57% after morphine, and 77% of the patients using topical morphine obtained clinically significant (at least 50% of the starting value) pain relief, statistically different from placebo. The analgesic effect was sustained over the 28-day OP period (p = 0.00001). There were only 2 cases of moderate pruritus, and no other side effects were reported. Conclusions Topical morphine was found to be a fast acting, highly effective, and safe medication for mucosal and skin lesions in palliative patients, with a sustainable pain relief effect over the 28-day observation period.

Objective: To explore the effect of compound Kushen Decoction combined with mesalazine on the treatment of ulcerative colitis and the level of inflammatory factors. Methods: Taking 206 patients with ulcerative colitis admitted to the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and Gastroenterology in our hospital from January 2017 to December 2019 as the research subjects, the subjects were divided into a control group and a study group according to a random sampling method. 103 cases in each group, the control group received mesalazine treatment, and the study group was treated with Compound Kushen Decoction on the basis of the control group. The total effective rate of treatment of the two groups was compared, and the mucosal lesions, disease activity index and various inflammations were compared before and after treatment. Factor level changes and medication safety. Results: The total effective rate of treatment in the study group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05); after treatment, the mucosal lesions and disease activity index under colonoscopy in the two groups were significantly improved compared with before treatment, and the study group was significantly better than the control group (P<0.05) ); After treatment, the two groups of interleukine (IL)-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (Procallcitonin, PCT) and other inflammatory factors were significantly lower than before treatment, and the study group was lower than the control group (P<0.05); there was no statistical difference in the incidence of adverse reactions caused by the two groups of drugs (P>0.05). Conclusion: Compound Kushen Decoction combined with mesalazine can effectively relieve clinical symptoms, improve intestinal mucosal lesions, reduce intestinal inflammatory response, control the progress of the disease, and have significant efficacy and safety. Oral health affects the general health in all age groups, however, in the elderly patients the situation is exaggerated by many factors as the systemic diseases and the prolonged use of medications besides the effects of the aging process that deteriorates the cell repair and the immunity, so this study was carried out to evaluate the prevalence of the oral mucosal lesions in elderly patients attending the Basrah college of dentistry. This study was a retrospective study conducted on the recorded pathological reports in the oral pathology department, data of the 55 patients aged >50 years were analyzed statistically using SPSS(version 20). The lesions were more frequent in females 34 (61.8%) while in males there were 21 (38.2%) cases. The age group 50-60 years represented the most frequent group with 24 (43.6%) cases followed by 20(36.4%) aged 60-70 years while patients age =70 found to be the least frequent group included 11(20%) of the cases. Tumor-like lesions were the most common lesions seen in 27(49.1%) of the elderly patients followed by the inflammatory lesions which represented 20% of the cases. Malignant lesions were seen in 7(12.7%) patients while benign tumors were found in 1 patient. It was concluded that it is essential to establish a routine oral cavity examination to elderly people who are more venerable to develop oral mucosal lesions that can affect their life quality as these lesions can produce pain, loss of function and it can transform into cancerous lesions that need immediate interventions. Purpose: To determine the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions associated with tobacco among patients visiting the dental hospital. Materials and Methods: A selection of 1525 patients visiting the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology were interviewed regarding tobacco habits. Examination of the oral cavity was performed by trained examiners under good illumination using diagnostic instruments. Oral mucosal lesions were diagnosed based on the clinical features. Results: The patients were divided into groups based on their tobacco habits. Out of 1525 patients, 359 patients (23.5%) had the habit and 265 (73.8%) of them had oral mucosal lesions. Leukoedema was the most prevalent lesion. Leukoplakia was found in 3.5% of the patients. Malignancy was found only among chewers. Conclusion: Nearly three-quarters of the patients with the tobacco habit had oral mucosal lesions. This emphasises that routine examination of oral mucosa is important and that the patients must be motivated to quit this harmful habit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim and Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the number, types, and locations of oral mucosal lesions in patients who attended our outpatient department. Materials and Methods: The patients were divided into four groups based on age: 17–24 years, 25–34 years, 35–44 years and >44 years old. Clinical oral examination was done with diagnostic instruments using the Color Atlas of Common Oral Diseases as a guide for diagnosis. When clinical features were not diagnostic, a biopsy was undertaken. The lesions were divided into 7 major groups – normal variants, tobacco related, tongue lesions, potentially malignant disorders and oral malignancies, reactive lesions, inflammatory and pigmented lesions. Results: Among 1500 outpatients, of the 587 (39.1%) patients diagnosed with oral mucosal lesions, males were 416 (70.8%) and females 171 (29.1%). The age range of the patients was between 17 and 80 years. The overall prevalence of oral mucosal changes or lesions was 39.1%. The most commonly affected age group was >44 years. Overall, tobacco-related lesions (35.9%) were the most frequently detected conditions, followed by tongue lesions (16.1%), premalignant and malignant lesions (13.9%), inflammatory lesions (12.6%), normal variants (9.5%), reactive lesions (7.6%), and pigmented lesions (4.0%). Conclusion: The results of the present study provide important information about the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions among patients seeking dental care. The study provides baseline data for future studies about the prevalence of oral lesions in the general population.

The major phenotypes of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) include ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), which cause debilitating symptoms, including bloody diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and fever. Patients require life-long immunosuppressive medications, which cause adverse side effects as additional morbidity factors. However, IBD is initiated and perpetuated by inflammatory cytokines, and given that in patients with IBD myeloid lineage leukocytes are elevated with activation behavior and release inflammatory cytokines, selective depletion of elevated granulocytes and monocytes by granulomonocytapheresis is a relevant therapeutic option for IBD patients. Therefore, a column filled with specially designed beads as granulomonocytapheresis carriers for selective adsorption of myeloid lineage leukocytes (Adacolumn) has been applied to treat patients with active IBD. Patients receive up to 10 granulomonocytapheresis sessions at one or two sessions per week. During each session, the carriers adsorb up to 60% of the myeloid leukocytes from the blood that passes through the granulomonocytapheresis column. Efficacy rates in the UC setting have been as high as 85% in steroid-naïve patients, and 100% in drug-naïve, first-episode cases, but patients with a long duration of active IBD and extensive colonic lesions that have become refractory to pharmacological treatment have not responded well. However, granulomonocytapheresis has a favorable safety profile. Given that immunosuppressive medications used to treat IBD potentially may increase the risk of severe viral infection, non-drug granulomonocytapheresis should be a favorable treatment strategy. Pediatric oral pathology deals with the conditions causing or resulting from morbid anatomic or functional changes in the structures of the mouth in the pediatrics. Children and adolescents exhibit a wide spectrum of oral lesions including hard and soft tissue lesions of the oral maxillofacial region. Oral pathoses in children are often missed since obtaining detailed history and performing thorough clinical examination and more difficult in comparison with an adult. Oral lesions in children include mucosal conditions, developmental anomalies, neoplastic, reactive or inflammatory lesions. Introduction: Painful mucosal and cutaneous lesions are often less responsive or even refractory to systemic opioid analgesics. There is evidence suggesting that the effectiveness of topical morphine be restricted to inflammatory pain. The studied groups were small and the observation period relatively short. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness and safety of topical morphine for pain related to mucosal lesions and skin ulcers.Material and Methods: The study was a 14-day randomized placebo-controlled cross-over trial (RCT) with a 28-day follow-up open phase (OP). The trial was conducted in adult patients with localized cancer-related pain and treated with systemic opioids in an oncology center or home hospice. The patients administered 0.2% gel on the mucosal lesion or 0.2% ointment on the skin lesion by themselves, without restrictions regarding the number of doses per day. The primary measurements were mean pain intensity (MPI) and mean pain relief (MPR) on the numeric rating scale (NRS 0-10), and ITT analysis was performed.Results: Thirty-five patients were randomized to the RCT, and all of them completed 14-day observation. The MPI before the treatment was NRS 5.9 and decreased to 2.5 after morphine (p < 0.0001 vs. placebo). The MPR was 57% after morphine, and 77% of the patients using topical morphine obtained clinically significant (at least 50% of the starting value) pain relief, statistically different from placebo. The analgesic effect was sustained over the 28-day OP period (p = 0.00001). There were only 2 cases of moderate pruritus, and no other side effects were reported.Conclusions: Topical morphine was found to be a fast acting, highly effective, and safe medication for mucosal and skin lesions in palliative patients, with a sustainable pain relief effect over the 28-day observation period. Rhinosporidiosis is a chronic granulomatous disease that affects mucosal surfaces. Its epidemiology and clinical presentation in Colombia are not well-known. We therefore reviewed all 58 reported cases between 1964 and 2015 to raise awareness among clinicians in a non-endemic area. Of the patients, 64% were male (median age = 15 years) and 57% had ocular and 43% nasal manifestations; there were no disseminated cases of the disease. All lesions were surgically removed. Behcet's disease (BD) is clinically characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers and ocular symptoms. However, systemic manifestations involving the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and heart are well known. Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is a rare manifestation of Behcet's syndrome and usually results from coronary arteries vasculitis, leading to aneurysms. More uncommon is the occurrence of acute MI as the initial presenting symptom. Hereby, we report a case of a young male who presented with acute anterior wall MI sans any other conventional risk factors with a normal angiogram. And 3 years later, he was diagnosed with BD. Introduction: The Oral CDx® brush biopsy (BB) method is a computer-assisted sample analysis that detects abnormal cells in all cell layers of the epithelium of the oral mucosa. Method: We took 263 oral BBs from 200 patients with potentially malignant disorders. Results: We received 204 negative results and 39 atypical, 7 positive and 13 inadequate results. SBs were taken in 56 cases. Therefore, the sensitivity for the detection of abnormal cells was 90% and the specificity was 44.1%. The positive predictive value accounted for 47.2% and the NPV accounted for 88.2%. Discussion and Conclusion: For the results of sensitivity and specificity of the Oral CDx® BB, there is still space for improvement but they are already high. Additional methods like DNA-image cytometry may enhance the results. But it is a simple and noninvasive method which does not need a special effort either from the patient or from the clinicians.

Surgical lasers have been well accepted by all disciplines of healing arts as useful adjunct to care of patients. The attitude toward their use has changed from one of "gee-whiz" appreciation for modern technology to that of acceptance of lasers as standard surgical instruments. The applications of Laser technology in dentistry and medicine have now entered the age of sophisticated and rational treatment. This presentation is an attempt to distil our experience with the patients in various periodontal soft and hard tissue procedures such as biopsies, frenectomies, white lesions, vesicullobulous lesions, preprosthetic surgery and dentinal hypersensitivity with the use of Carbon dioxide laser. Laser device used for all intra oral procedures in the presentation is LASERSAT TM Carbon dioxide Laser Manufactured by SATELAC R . Dental Laser safety and protection protocol was strictly followed. All patients responded well to Laser treatment with complete healing of lesions with no post operative complications. No recurrence of any lesion was reported at follow up visits. Lasers have become an integral part of periodontal surgeons′ armamentarium. They have proved to be useful as adjunct to conventional treatment modalities in various soft and hard tissue intraoral procedures with better patient acceptance.

Smoking promotes an increase in both the incidence and recurrence of peptic ulcers. The association of upper gastrointestinal lesions with smoking was studied in 120 patients with or without the symptoms of upper gastrointestinal lesions.
