Objective To compare the association of the incidence and mortality of leukemia and the human development index (HDI) in different countries or regions in 2022, and the trend of leukemia incidence and mortality with age in countries with different HDI levels. Methods GLOBOCAN 2022 data related to leukemia incidence and mortality in different countries or regions worldwide and HDI were evaluated by Pearson correlation analysis and Kruskal–Wallis test. The incidence and mortality rates of each age and the age change trend were analyzed using the Joinpoint Regression model. Results Age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR), and mortality to incidence ratio (M/I) were statistically significantly different among the four groups of HDI countries (P<0.001). HDI was positively correlated with ASIR and ASMR and negatively correlated with M/I. Among all ages, ASIR and ASMR of leukemia of the four groups had similar trends with age, and the risk of leukemia was high at ages less than 15 and more than 40. The incidence of leukemia in all age groups in China differed from those in other countries with high HDI, while the mortality rate was lower than those in other countries with high HDI. Abstract Background Cancer control initiatives are informed by quantifying the capacity to reduce cancer burden through effective interventions. Burden measures using health administrative data are a sustainable way to support monitoring and evaluating of outcomes among patients and populations. The Fraction of Life Years Lost After Diagnosis (FLYLAD) is one such burden measure. We use data on Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal South Australians from 1990 to 2010 to show how FLYLAD quantifies disparities in cancer burden: between populations; between sub-population cohorts where stage at diagnosis is available; and when follow-up is constrained to 24-months after diagnosis. Method FLYLADcancer is the fraction of years of life expectancy lost due to cancer (YLLcancer) to life expectancy years at risk at time of cancer diagnosis (LYAR) for each person. The Global Burden of Disease standard life table provides referent life expectancies. FLYLADcancer was estimated for the population of cancer cases diagnosed in South Australia from 1990 to 2010. Cancer stage at diagnosis was also available for cancers diagnosed in Aboriginal people and a cohort of non-Aboriginal people matched by sex, year of birth, primary cancer site and year of diagnosis. Results Cancers diagnoses (N = 144,891) included 777 among Aboriginal people. Cancer burden described by FLYLADcancer was higher among Aboriginal than non-Aboriginal (0.55, 95% CIs 0.52–0.59 versus 0.39, 95% CIs 0.39–0.40). Diagnoses at younger ages among Aboriginal people, 7 year higher LYAR (31.0, 95% CIs 30.0–32.0 versus 24.1, 95% CIs 24.1–24.2) and higher premature cancer mortality (YLLcancer = 16.3, 95% CIs 15.1–17.5 versus YLLcancer = 8.2, 95% CIs 8.2–8.3) influenced this. Disparities in cancer burden between the matched Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cohorts manifested 24-months after diagnosis with FLYLADcancer 0.44, 95% CIs 0.40–0.47 and 0.28, 95% CIs 0.25–0.31 respectively. Conclusion FLYLAD described disproportionately higher cancer burden among Aboriginal people in comparisons involving: all people diagnosed with cancer; the matched cohorts; and, within groups diagnosed with same staged disease. The extent of disparities were evident 24-months after diagnosis. This is evidence of Aboriginal peoples’ substantial capacity to benefit from cancer control initiatives, particularly those leading to earlier detection and treatment of cancers. FLYLAD’s use of readily available, person-level administrative records can help evaluate health care initiatives addressing this need.

Background: Lung cancer is a significant health concern in China. There is limited available data of its burden and trends. This study aims to evaluate the trends of lung cancer across different age groups and genders in China and the Group of Twenty (G20) countries, explore the risk factors, and predict the future trends over a 20-year period. Methods: The data were obtained from the GBD study 2019. The number of cases, age standardized rate (ASR), and average annual percentage changes (AAPC) were used to estimate the trend in lung cancer by age, gender, region and risk factor. The trend of lung cancer was predicted by autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model by the "xtarimau" command. The joinpoint regression analysis was conducted to identify periods with the highest changes in incidence and mortality. Additionally, the relationship between AAPCs and socio-demographic index (SDI) was explored. Results: From 1990 to 2019, both the incidence and mortality of lung cancer in China and G20 significantly increased, with China experiencing a higher rate of increase. The years with the highest increase in incidence of lung cancer in China were 1998-2004 and 2007-2010. Among the G20 countries, the AAPC in incidence and mortality of lung cancer in the Republic of Korea was the highest, followed closely by China. Although India exhibited similarities, its AAPC in lung cancer incidence and mortality rates was lower than that of China. The prediction showed that the incidence in China will continue to increase. In terms of risk factors, smoking was the leading attributable cause of mortality in all countries, followed by occupational risk and ambient particulate matter pollution. Notably, smoking in China exhibited the largest increase among the G20 countries, with ambient particulate matter pollution ranking second. Conclusion: Lung cancer is a serious public health concern in China, with smoking and environmental particulate pollution identified as the most important risk factors. The incidence and mortality rates are expected to continue to increase, which places higher demands on China's lung cancer prevention and control strategies. Background: Gastric cancer has been one of the major causes of death in the past decades. It is the fifth most prevalent cancer and the third leading cause of neoplasm death worldwide. Thus, to know more about this health problem, assessing the burden of this cancer and its association with socioeconomic status of countries is of great importance. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the mean trend of gastric cancer mortality-to-incidence ratio (GCMIR) in different super regions defined by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and investigate the relationship between GCMIR and Human Development Index (HDI) in the period 2000-2016. Methods: We used the data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2016 study to calculate GCMIR for 185 world countries in the period 2000-2016. We also extracted the HDI data for each year under study from the Updates of the UNDP website. To attain the analytic aims, marginal modeling and generalized estimating equations (GEE) were utilized. Results: Sub-Saharan Africa was the only super region with a positive slope of GCMIR, and high-income countries had the greatest decreasing slope of GCMIR during the study period. Moreover, there was a negative association between GCMIR and HDI in these years. Conclusion: Our findings revealed that gastric cancer could be thought not only as a biological disease but also as a social event that will be more controllable with the improvement of economic status and other social determinants of health. The goal of this research is to create a theoretical framework for the identification of cancer risk factor disparities and address the recognition of geographic patterns in these factors. 34 secondary variables covering the entire US at the county level in 2010 were analyzed, both individually and grouped (theoretically and statistically), in relation to the mortality to incidence ratio (MIR) for all cancer sites. An a priori assessment and a principal components analysis (PCA) were used to group variables to test societal constructs. OLS and geographically weighted regressions (GWRs) were used to assess influence of both individual and grouped variables against the MIR. The theoretical grouping of variables showed little change in predictive capability of OLS models. In GWR model, there was marked improvement over the OLS. Maps produced using local R2 showed clear regional patterns of influence between the indicators and the MIR. Both the theoretical model and the justification for a spatial approach to cancer risk factor disparities were shown to be effective in this paper. The link between this suite of indicators and the health outcomes is clear, and supports the idea that a full representation of the SES landscape should be used to both predict health outcomes and to assess policy options for improving these outcomes. With the presence of definitive regional patterns and clear connections between the MIR and societal groupings, the findings from this research suggest a need to shift to a more comprehensive and spatial approach to cancer disparities research. Objectives: Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH) accounts for 10% of strokes annually in the United States (US). Up-to-date trends in disease burden and regional variations remain unknown. Our study reports updated trends of ICH incidence, mortality, and mortality to incidence ratio (MIR) across the US.Materials and Methods: Observational study to evaluate the incidence and mortality from ICH across the US. Data was obtained from Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database. Age-Standardized Incidence (ASIRs) and Death (ASDRs) Rates, as well as the Mortality- to-Incidence ratios (MIRs) for ICH in the US overall and state-wise from 1990-2017. Joinpoint regression analysis was used, with presentation of estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs).Results: Overall decrease in ASIRs, ASDRs, and MIRs in the US for both sexes. The 2017 mean ASIR was 25.67/100,000 for men and 19.17/100,000 for women, whereas mean ASDR was 13.96/100,000 for men and 11.35/100,000 for women. District of Columbia had greatest decreases in ASIR EAPCs for both men and women at -41.25% and -40.58%, respectively, and greatest decreases in ASDR EAPCs for men and women at -55.38% and -48.51%, respectively. MIR between 1990-2017 decreased in men by -12.12% and women by -7.43%. MIR increased in men from 2014-2017 (EAPC +2.2%) and in women from 2011-2017 (EAPC +1.0%).Conclusion: Decreasing trends in incidence, mortality, and MIR. No significant trends in mortality were found in the last 6 years of the study period. MIR worsened in males from 2014-2017 and females from 2011-2017, suggesting decreased ICH-related survival lately. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
