In recent years, the concept of hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPPs) has revolutionized the field of nanophotonic, enabling unprecedented control over light-matter interactions at the nanoscale. Here, we theoretically propose and study the lateral optical forces in twisted mixed-dimensional MoO3 homostructures. Assisted with the low-symmetry HPPs, we realize a lateral optical force exerted on the Au nanoparticles near the surface of mixed-dimensional MoO3 homostructures with a linear polarized incident light. By controlling the polarization state, incident angle of light and the twisted angle of MoO3, the amplitude and direction of the lateral optical forces can be tailored in the mid-infrared range. Our findings provide a new platform for engineering lateral optical forces to manipulate diverse objects in a flexible and efficient manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study outlines an effective method for improving the electrochemical properties of MoO 3 by tuning the electronic spin state of Mo via Ni doping, which can enhance its reactivity and weaken the diffusion energy barrier between Zn2+ and MoO 3. Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have received considerable potential for their affordability and high reliability. Among potential cathodes, α-MoO 3 stands out due to its layered structure aligned with the (0 1 0) plane, offering extensive ionic insertion channels for enhanced charge storage. However, its limited electrochemical activity and poor Zn2+ transport kinetics present significant challenges for its deployment in energy storage devices. To overcome these limitations, we introduce a new strategy by doping α-MoO 3 with Ni (Ni-MoO 3), tuning the electron spin states of Mo. Thus modification can activate the reactivity of Ni-MoO 3 towards Zn2+ storage and weaken the interaction between Ni-MoO 3 and intercalated Zn2+, thereby accelerating the Zn2+ transport and storage. Consequently, the electrochemical properties of Ni-MoO 3 significantly surpass those of pure MoO 3 , demonstrating a specific capacity of 258 mAh g−1 at 1 A g−1 and outstanding rate performance (120 mAh g−1 at 10 A g−1). After 1000 cycles at 8 A g−1, it retains 76 % of the initial capacity, with an energy density of 154.4 Wh kg−1 and a power density of 11.2 kW kg−1. This study aims to enhance electrochemical energy storage in supercapacitors by optimizing the synthesis temperature of MoO 3 nanostructures using a hydrothermal technique. MoO 3 nanostructures were synthesized using a hydrothermal technique, with reaction temperatures ranging from 140 to 230 °C for 24 h. The materials were analyzed using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. The findings indicate that at 200 °C, a pure hexagonal phase of MoO 3 was obtained, while different temperatures resulted in a combination of orthorhombic and hexagonal phases. The SEM analysis demonstrated that the morphology of the MoO 3 nanostructures varied depending on the synthesis temperature. These variations encompass the particles, spherical planar structures, and nanorods. The prepared samples were subjected to electrochemical analysis to explore their electrochemical properties, including cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD). The electrochemical performances of the prepared samples varied depending on the temperature at which the MoO 3 samples were prepared, resulting in different morphologies. The sample prepared at 220 °C exhibited the highest specific capacitance (C S) of 330 F/g, a minimal charge-transfer resistance (R CT) of 1800 Ω, an energy density of 16.50 Wh/kg, and a power density of 150 W/kg with symmetric and asymmetric device C S values of 125 and 115 F/g, respectively, compared to the other prepared samples. The observed outcomes can be attributed to the diverse morphology of MoO 3 nanostructures and the high electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) of 7.43 × 10−5 F/cm2 that were synthesized at different hydrothermal temperatures. This diversity in morphology and ECSA leads to the presence of active surface area sites, thereby enhancing electrochemical activity. These findings highlight the effect of synthesis temperature on the morphology, crystal structure, and electrochemical performance of MoO 3 nanostructures for supercapacitor applications. Aqueous battery with nonflammable and instinctive safe properties has received great attention. However, issues related to Zn anode such as side reactions and rampant dendrite growth hinder the long‐term circulation of AZMBs. Herein, an ultrathin(35 nm) MoO3 coating is deposited on the Zn anode by means of vacuum vapor deposition for the first time. Due to the peculiar layer structure of MoO3, insertion of Zn2+ in ZnxMoO3 acts as Zn2+ ion conductor, which regulates Zn2+ deposition in an ordered manner. Additionally, the MoO3 coating can also inhibit the hydrogen evolution and corrosion reactions at the interface. Therefore, both Zn//MoO3@Cu asymmetric battery and Zn symmetric battery cells manage to deliver satisfactory electrochemical performances. The symmetric cell assembled with MoO3@Zn shows a significant long cycle life of more than 1600 h at a current density of 2 mA cm−2. Meanwhile, the MoO3@Zn//Cu asymmetric cell exhibits an ultrahigh Zn deposition/stripping efficiency of 99.82% after a stable cycling of 650 h at 2 mA cm−2. This study proposes a concept of “zincophile Zn2+ conductor regulation” to dictate Zn electrodeposition and broadens novel design of vacuum evaporation for nano MoO3 modified Zn anodes. While sustainable material systems have become paramount, recycling unused waste cathode ray tubes (CRTs) glass can possess great potential for radiation protection applications. With this motivation, the present study addressed the utilization of waste CRTs in combination with MoO3 towards a glass composition of xMoO3—(100-x)CRTs where x typifies 0, 1, 3, and 5 wt%. The glass samples coded Mo0 to Mo5 were synthesized using a traditional melting technique. After successfully preparing the glass series, some sets of characterization analyses were performed to understand physical, structural, optical, and radiation shielding properties. According to the findings, density increased from 2.92 to 2.96 g/cm3 as MoO3 was introduced into the glass network. Yet more, all glass samples exhibited an amorphous structure irrespective of varying MoO3 doping rates. On the other hand, FTIR measurements paved the way for highlighting possible vibrational modes, such as Si–O-Si and Si–O, in the structure. According to the optical properties via UV–Vis, the direct Eg values equaled 1.75, 1.69, 1.65, and 1.61 eV for Mo0 to Mo5, respectively, whereas R values ranged from 2.8534 to 2.9281. For investigating mass attenuation coefficients (MAC), the transmission measurements were performed for 30.9–383 keV photon energy ranges using radioactive source of 133-Ba and Ultra-Ge detector. The correctness of the experimental MAC values were checked with EpiXS program and MCNP codes. It is determined that the highest MAC values changing from 0.5951 cm2/g to 0.1022 cm2/g belong to Mo5 glass for 30.9–383 keV. It is also revealed that with the increasing MoO3 addition, EABF, EBF, HVL and MFP values of the Mo0-Mo5 glasses dropped and MAC, Zeff and Nel values enhanced. Designing scaffolds to fit with essential requirements for wound dressings is still a challenge. A material with high antibacterial activity and biocompatibility is targeted. In this case, the electrospinning technique is used to fabricate a nanofiber scaffold of polylactic acid (PLA) embedded with ginger and/or molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) and cupric oxide (CuO). The nanofiber scaffolds were examined using SEM, TEM, Raman, XRD, FTIR, and EDX. In addition, the surface topography of the nanofiber scaffold of MoO3/ginger@PLA showed that the nanofiber diameters differ from 0.085 to 0.34 µm. Furthermore, the contact angle of the water drop on the surface of the pure PLA and MoO3/CuO/GO/ginger@PLA is remarkably changed from 32.3° to 18.9°. Moreover, the cell viability test of the composition MoO3/CuO/GO/ginger@PLA is above the IC50 at all concentrations. Meanwhile, the antibacterial test exhibited antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus for the scaffolds, with an inhibition zone of 23 ± 0.816 mm and 16.33 ± 0.942 mm for MoO3/CuO/ginger@PLA and 20.3 ± 0.471 mm and 15.33 ± 0.943 mm for MoO3/CuO/GO/ginger@PLA. In this study, a series of mesoporous TiO2 nanotablets implanted with uniformly distributed MoO3 were formed by the heat treatment of a titanium-based metal–organic framework (MIL-125) in the presence of Mo ions, and their hydrogen sensing properties were investigated for the first time. The TiO2 and MoO3/TiO2 composites present a typical tablet-like morphology. Compared with the bare TiO2, the MoO3/TiO2 (Mo6+/Ti4+ = 1:10) composite has a richer porous structure (3 times larger than pure TiO2) which can provide a larger surface area (2.1 times larger than pure TiO2). The sensing performance reveals that the MoO3/TiO2 composite (Mo6+: Ti4+ = 1:10) not only exhibits the highest response of 47.57 (5 times higher than pure TiO2) to 1000 ppm of H2 at room temperature but also shows good reproducibility, long-term stability, and selectivity, which is mainly due to the richer porous structures, the n–n heterojunction, and the catalytic effect between MoO3 and hydrogen. It is noteworthy that the response of the optimal MoO3/TiO2 composite has shown an exponential increase at higher hydrogen concentrations and reaches 1178 at 4000 ppm of hydrogen. Strategies to deal with sample charging effects on X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra are presented. These strategies combine charge compensation (or lack of) via a flow of electrons and an electrical connection (or lack of) of samples to the ground. Practical examples involving samples with a range of different electrical properties, sample structure/composition and sensitivity to X‐rays, illustrate the correlation between sample properties, measurement strategies, and the resulting XPS data. The most appropriate measurement strategy for a particular sample is also recommended. We highlight the crucial importance of appropriate XPS data acquisition to obtain a correct data interpretation. Catalyzed by MoO3, mullite whiskers were synthesized through a molten salt method. This study comprehensively explored the impact of reaction temperature, MoO3 mass fraction, and calcination temperature on the morphology of mullite whiskers. Employing analytical techniques such as XRD and SEM, the phase composition and morphology of the samples were meticulously scrutinized. The results unveiled that at a MoO3 mass fraction of 7–8% (molar fraction) and a calcination temperature of 800 °C, mullite whiskers demonstrated a heightened level of purity. Building on these observations, the study delved into the mechanistic underpinnings of MoO3 as a catalyst in mullite whisker synthesis. It is proved that the metal oxides contained in the silica-alumina glue slag can also form a local liquid phase at low temperatures, reducing the viscosity of the reaction system and liquefaction temperature. The addition of molybdenum oxide makes the reaction process of mullite whisker growth shorter. At the same time, the addition of molybdenum oxide can effectively reduce the viscosity of the reaction system, thus lowering the reaction temperature and increasing the reaction efficiency. In addition molybdenum oxide can be used as a templating agent to induce the growth of mullite whiskers along specific crystal planes. Compared with aluminum fluoride catalysis, molybdenum oxide does not produce the hazardous gas HF, the sublimated molybdenum oxide gas can be recycled, and the molybdenum oxide attached to the whiskers can also be dissolved in water. These theories provide experience in the large-scale preparation of mullite whiskers.

Utilizing an innovative and highly light-absorbing photocathode, the direct conversion of hydrogen gas from Red Sea water is achieved. This involves creating a new nanocomposite thin film through a one-pot synthesis method, combining poly(O-chloroaniline) with trichalcogenides (MoS3) and MoO3 (MoS3–molebednium oxide/poly(o-chloroaniline)). This nanocomposite has remarkable morphological and optical properties with potential as a photocathode for hydrogen generation by harnessing the power of Red Sea water. This nanocomposite exhibits a unique semi-spherical architecture, with an average size of around 150 nm. These semi-spherical particles are surrounded by a dense network of fibers, forming a complex structure that provides ample space for trapping photons when exposed to light. The distinctive morphology significantly influences the optical properties of this nanocomposite, showing strong absorbance across a wide range of optical wavelengths up to ∼700 nm, with a promising bandgap of 1.75 eV. The hydrogen generation is quantified by measuring the generated photocurrent density (J ph) as a function of the light incidence frequency using various optical filters at a fixed potential of −0.8 V. The highest J ph values are recorded at −0.558 and −0.553 mA·cm−2 for wavelengths of 340 and 440 nm, respectively; the value reaches its maximum at the white light with a wavelength of −0.63 mA·cm−2. Elevating the temperature from 30°C to 50°C results in a substantial enhancement of the J ph values, increasing from −0.63 to −0.71 mA·cm−2, respectively. This temperature increase leads to a noteworthy improvement in incidnce photon to current conversion from 1.85% to 2.22%. This photoelectrode demonstrates not only cost-effectiveness but also eco-friendliness, making it an attractive choice for H2 generation by Red Sea water as a natural, environmentally friendly, and economically viable hydrogen source. Consequently, this study holds significant promise for industrial applications due to its economic and eco-friendly characteristics.

The search for materials to treat wastewater is especially crucial. Herein, we have prepared 1D molybdenum oxide (MoO 3) nanobelts through a hydrothermal approach. The binary (MoO 3 /SiO 2) and ternary composites of MoO 3 /SiO 2 /MXene were synthesized via ultrasonication route. The as-prepared MoO 3 , MoO 3 /SiO 2, and MoO 3 /SiO 2 /MXene composites were employed to investigate the photocatalytic behavior of two organic dyes, methyl orange (MO) and crystal violet (CV). The % degradation of MO in the presence of MoO 3 nanobelts and MoO 3 /SiO 2 was calculated to be 48.9 % and 74.4 %, respectively. In the case of CV dye, the degradation (%) was observed at 53.7 % and 75.9 %. The MoO 3 /SiO 2 /MXene composite revealed the best photocatalytic behavior against both MO and CV dyes by removing 94.7 % and 97.7 % under visible light irradiation. The rate constant values of MoO 3 nanobelts, MoO 3 /SiO 2 and MoO 3 /SiO 2 /MXene composite for MO dye were calculated to be 0.00568 min−1, 0.01156 min−1, and 0.02399 min−1 and for CV dye 0.00679 min−1, 0.01208 min−1, and 0.02798 min−1 respectively. A scavenging test was carried out to monitor the main photo-active species that take part during the photocatalysis and hydroxyl radicals were found to be the highly active species during whole photodegradation progression. The SiO 2 particles function as a good adsorbent medium and transfer the adsorbed organics toward more active sites to advance the reaction. 2D MXene nanosheets, as good conductors, reduce the recombination rate of charges, offer large surface area, and facilitate fast transfer of charges. The results suggest that MoO 3 /SiO 2 /MXene composite is a potential contender for wastewater remediation applications. A MoO3 nanofiber prepared by electrospinning and subsequent heat treatment is attracting significant attention due to its structural advantages. Vibrant studies are being conducted to control its morphology and diameter to improve its properties. In this study, we demonstrated the synthesis of α-MoO3 nanofibers with multiple surface facets by controlling the heating rate and temperature in the heat treatment step for removing polymer and crystallizing MoO3 from the electrospun polymer/precursor nanofibers. The analysis results show that the faster heating rate and higher heat treatment temperature in the thermal treatment process are more favorable for forming a shape in which particles with facet planes are connected. Finally, we observed the morphological change according to the heat treatment time to confirm the effect of the heat treatment conditions on the shape of MoO3 and interpreted the results in terms of nucleation and crystal growth.

Abstract Herein, a novel, green, and sustainable MoO3/ZIF-67/AmGO composite has been fabricated for the removal of notorious o-nitrophenols (o-NPs) from wastewater. Atriplex halimus L. (saltbush) served a dual function where the plant extract was used for the synthesis of molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) NPs, while the spent biomass-derived biochar was utilized as feedstock to produce green graphene oxide (GO). Ultimately, the MoO3/ZIF-67/AmGO composite was in situ fabricated by mixing MoO3 and AmGO with ZIF-67 during its preparation by the self-templating approach. Remarkably, the adsorption of o-NP onto MoO3/ZIF-67/AmGO attained equilibrium in just less than 10 min. The kinetics and isotherms analyses verified that the o-NP adsorption onto MoO3/ZIF-67/AmGO adhered to the Pseudo-2nd-order and Freundlich models, with a consistent qmax value of 500 mg/g. A conceivable adsorption mechanism was investigated in detail. Moreover, the ionic strength test implied the impact of the salting-out phenomenon in boosting o-NP adsorption. The eco-friendly MoO3/ZIF-67/AmGO proves to be a sustainable adsorbent, displaying excellent recyclability in consistently removing o-NP across multiple cycles.

The synthesis of rod-shaped Mo(vi) trichalcogenide–Mo(vi) oxide, cleverly adorned on a poly(1-H pyrrole) (P1HP) matrix (MoS3–MoO3/P1HP), is achieved through a one-pot preparation method. This process occurs under the pyrrole oxidation employing the oxidizing agent Na2MoO4. Notably, this oxidation process facilitates the direct incorporation of the inorganic constituents into the polymer matrix. Of particular significance is the material’s bandgap, which is optimally situated at 1.4 eV, rendering it highly suitable for its intended applications. The material assumes a rod-like structure, characterized by an average length of 400 nm and width of 30 nm, further enhancing its desirability. In practice, this thin film serves as an exceptionally promising photoelectrode. It finds its forte in the generation of hydrogen from sewage water, achieving an impressive efficiency rate of 12.66%, specifically at 340 nm. In addition to that, it boasts a remarkable hydrogen generation rate of 1.2 moles·h−1·cm−2. Moreover, the material exhibits remarkable versatility in its response to light. Its sensitivity to monochromatic light across a broad optical spectrum (UV till IR), underscores its potential for hydrogen generation applications for industrial applications.

Among the thin film-photovoltaics, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are one of the most developing topics of research in recent times. Research records reveal that around 26 % efficiency in PSCs has already been achieved so far. However, the commercialization of those PSCs is hindered due to the toxicity of lead (Pb), and the instability of organic cations as well as structural volatility. Several inorganic materials including inorganic hole transport layer (HTL) have recently been proposed and developed to reduce the organic part in the device structure. We fabricate MoO 3 thin film materials and conduct a detailed study to realize the potential of MoO 3 as a unique HTL for application in PSCs. The synthesis of MoO 3 thin film includes several characterization techniques e.g. XRD, FESEM, EDX, UV–Vis, and Hall Effect measurement. We design a MoO 3 thin film-based, lead-free PSC structure of FTO/MoO 3 /PTAA/(FA) 2 BiCuI 6 /ZnO/Ag and perform numerical analysis using the SCAPS-1D simulation tool. In the device simulation process, we use the experimentally obtained optoelectrical properties of the MoO 3 film and achieve a maximum efficiency of around 22.28 % in a contained lead-free PSC. A flexible asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) is successfully developed by using the composite of MoO3 and graphene oxide (GO) electrochemically deposited on carbon cloth (CC) (MoO3/rGO/CC) as the cathode, the MnO2 deposited on CC (MnO2/CC) as the anode, and Na2SO4/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the gel electrolyte. The results show that the introduction of the GO layer can remarkably increase the specific capacitance of MoO3 from 282.7 F g−1 to 341.0 F g−1. Furthermore, the combination of such good electrode materials and a neutral gel electrolyte renders the fabrication of high-performance ASC with a large operating potential difference of 1.6 V in a 0.5 mol L−1 Na2SO4 solution of water. Furthermore, the ASCs exhibit excellent cycle ability and the capacitance can maintain 87% of its initial value after 6000 cycles. The fact that a light-emitting diode can be lit up by the ASCs indicates the device’s potential applications as an energy storage device. MoO3 thin film was fabricated on an indium tin oxide substrate using the physical vapor deposition technique. X‐ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy study to investigate surface morphology, grain size, and surface structure, which are critical for absorbing solar spectra in water splitting for hydrogen energy generation. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy was used to confirm the absorption of solar spectra and the percentage of transmittance. Fourier‐transform infrared analysis provided the functional groups present in the deposited thin film. The Tauc plot was used to determine the thin‐film band gap, which allowed for the analysis of charge carrier transitions from the conduction band to the valence band. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy investigations confirmed the charge transfer processes to the counter electrode and electrolyte interfaces. The observed low curve for MoO3 indicated low resistance and allowed efficient charge transfer. Linear sweep voltammetry analysis was used to measure photocurrent and solar light to hydrogen emission when the thin film was exposed to solar spectra. The thin film's observed hydrogen emission rate was 3731.74 mol g−1 h−1, and the STH% of MoO3 was found to be 0.345% at 0.8 V. The composite MoO 3 / Me MoO 4 (Me = Cu, Ni, Co, Fe, and Mn) ceramics were obtained by standard high-temperature sintering. Their structure was tested using XRD, SEM, EDS, and XPS. The occurrence of two phases was determined. The main MoO 3 phase exhibited an orthorhombic Pnma space group related to the ceramic grain of micrometre size. The second phase was induced by doping with the Me atom. It showed various monoclinic structures and a smaller grain size. The XPS test confirmed the coexistence of the phases, which was reflected in several lines in the patterns. The valence band of the undoped MoO 3 was located ∼3.3 eV below the Fermi level. An additional subband attributed to the Me 3d state was detected within the energy gap. The MoO 3 / Me MoO 4 composites showed a valence band shifted toward the Fermi level and overlapped with the subband, originating from hybridized Mo 4d – Me 3d states. Magnetic susceptibility showed an antiferromagnetic state below ∼20 K for the Ni- and Fe-doped composites. The estimated magnetic moment magnitudes indicated the contribution from Me 2+ and Me 3+ ions that marked the occurrence of oxygen vacancies. Diffuse reflectance spectra exhibited anomalies in the Vis (∼500–650 nm) and the NIR (∼700–850 nm) ranges and tails in the ∼900–1000 nm range. The estimated magnitudes of energy gaps were attributed to defect-induced states. They corresponded to deduced oxygen vacancies (2.05–2.38 eV) and states or subbands induced by the introduced Me atoms (1.34–1.89 eV). Electric dc resistivity temperature dependence showed thermally activated dependence. The estimated activation energy varied from 0.27 eV to 0.58 eV, depending on the doping of the Me atom. The kinetics and isotherms analyses verified that the o-NP adsorption onto MoO3/ZIF-67/AmGO adhered to the Pseudo-2nd-order and Freundlich models, with a consistent qmax value of 500 mg/g. A conceivable adsorption mechanism was investigated in detail. Moreover, the ionic strength test implied the impact of the salting-out phenomenon in boosting o-NP adsorption. The development of high-performance supercapacitor electrodes has been intensely explored for future high-power storage applications, especially in light of the looming depletion of fossil fuels and the need for renewable resources. Herein, a nanocomposite of molybdenum trioxide-niobium pentoxide (MoO3-Nb2O5 NC) was synthesized using a straightforward ultrasonication procedure. The synthesized MoO3-Nb2O5 NC's crystallinity, purity, surface texture, morphology, atomic composition, and electronic state were evaluated using various analytical techniques including XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, EDX, and XPS. Further, the cyclic voltammetry (CV) study indicates that the MoO3-Nb2O5 NC offers a high specific capacitance of 1213 F/g at 10 mV/s scan rate. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of MoO3-Nb2O5NC provides data on the charge transfer resistance (Rct) and solution resistance (Rs). Furthermore, galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) analysis displays extended charge–discharge times and commendable rate capability for the MoO3-Nb2O5 NC, with a specific capacitance of 853 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g. Moreover, the cyclic stability of the MoO3-Nb2O5 NC exhibits superior capacitive retention of 93.3% even after 3000 extended cycles. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device, based on MoO3-Nb2O5//AC, delivers an energy density of 22.1 Wh/kg at a corresponding power density of 2206 W/kg. Recently, low efficiency and stability due to unbalanced carrier injection remain urgent problems in inorganic quantum dot light†emitting diodes (QLEDs). To address these issues, the device was irradiated with ultraviolet light in this study, which improved the interface contact. This resulted in the smaller electron potential barrier, increased hole injection and more balanced carrier injection in the device. Real-time monitoring of triethylamine (TEA) is critical to environmental safety and daily life. However, detailed challenges remain for TEA gas sensors, such as low-cost and facile synthetic methods, and low working temperatures. In this study, a combination of hydrothermal and wet chemical approaches is utilized for the rational construction of α -MoO 3 @WO 3 with a sheet-like nanostructure. Additionally, the sensing performances towards triethylamine are investigated. According to the results, it was found that the α -MoO 3 @WO 3 sensor has a higher response value (80.4) and faster response and recovery times (9/26 s) than those of pristine MoO 3 at low optimum temperature (200 °C). Again, the α -MoO 3 @WO 3 based sensor also demonstrated high selectivity to TEA as well as good stability. The enhancement of the MoO 3 @WO 3 sensor's gas-sensitive mechanism may be attributed to the formation of n-n heterojunction between MoO 3 and WO 3 and the synergistic effect of both. Catalytic fast pyrolysis (CFP) of biomass is a promising technology that can convert biomass into fuels. To understand how the metal oxides modified HZSM-5 catalysts enhance the formation of desirable hydrocarbons as well as suppress the coke formation during catalytic pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass, three types of metal (molybdenum (Mo), gallium (Ga), and tungsten (W)) oxides modified HZSM-5 catalysts were prepared. The activity of the catalysts was evaluated on a micro-reactor system. The effects of the atmosphere, metal oxide types, loading amounts of metal oxide, and catalysis temperature were all discussed. The introduction of hydrogen significantly enhanced the formation of hydrocarbons and decreased the coke formation. The yield of aliphatic products was further increased by 60%, while coke formation was suppressed by 52% using metal oxide-modified HZSM-5. Among these catalysts, HZSM-5 modified by molybdenum oxide obtained the highest hydrocarbon yield of 49.6%. HZSM-5 modified by gallium oxide obtained the highest aliphatic hydrocarbon yield of 30.4%. Compared to the control test using the HZSM-5 catalyst, coke yields were also decreased by 36%, 38%, and 35% for HZSM-5 modified by molybdenum oxide, gallium oxide, and tungsten oxide, respectively. In the quest to develop efficient semitransparent perovskite solar cells (ST‐PSCs), the primary challenge lies in transparent electrode fabrication. n–i–p‐type ST‐PSCs often suffer from low fill factors (FF) and power conversion efficiency (PCE), attributed to the undesirable buffer layer/transparent conductive oxide combination of the transparent electrode. In this context, this study proposes an efficient composite transparent electrode (CTE) system comprising an ultrathin MoO3 buffer layer (5 nm) and low‐power sputtered indium zinc oxide (45 W–220 nm). The electrode demonstrates excellent compatibility with Spiro‐OMeTAD‐based devices, effectively addressing the low FF and PCE challenges of ST‐PSCs. Employing the new CTE, the best‐performing ST‐PSCs with the absorption edge at 1.57 eV achieve a remarkable PCE of 21.96% with an FF of up to 83.80%. More transparent ST‐PSCs with thickness‐modulated absorbers and average transmittance of 50.77% at 600–1200 nm wavelength result in a PCE of up to 20.91% with the highest known FF of 84.02%. Quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are emerging as promising contenders for next-generation display technology owing to their remarkable performance. In extensive research on QLEDs, MoO3 is commonly used as a replacement for the acidic hole injection material PEDOT:PSS to avoid acid corrosion of the indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode, thus preventing degradation of QLED performance. The advantages of solution-processed QLEDs make them an attractive option for large-scale production. Nowadays, achieving pixelation is still a critical step in the commercialization of QLEDs. In this work, we synthesized ultrafine MoO3 nanoparticles with an average grain size around 2 nm and successfully achieved MoO3 patterns through direct photolithography by incorporating photosensitizers. Furthermore, QLED devices with the photolithographed MoO3 as the hole injection layer (HIL) were fabricated, and pixel patterns with different shapes were designed and achieved. Compared to QLEDs based on pristine MoO3, the devices with photolithographic MoO3 exhibited a higher external quantum efficiency (EQE) and brightness. Nanostructures have been used for various biomedical applications due to their optical, antibacterial, magnetic, antioxidant, and biocompatible properties. Cancer is a prevalent disease that severely threatens human life and health. Thus, innovative and effective therapeutic approaches are urgently required for cancer. Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising approach to killing cancer cells. In this investigation, we developed a low‐cost, simple, green technique to fabricate molybdenum trioxide nanostructures (MNs) using Opuntia ficus‐indica mucilage as a template. Moreover, the MNs were functionalized with folic acid (FA) for cancer PTT. The X‐ray diffractometer results revealed that the prepared MNs have an orthorhombic crystal phase. The transmission electron microscope image of MNs shows a flake shape with 20–150 nm diameter. The cytotoxicity of MNs and FA‐conjugated MNs was studied in vitro. These cell viability assay results suggested that fabricated MoO3 nanostructures reduced 25% of cell viability in MCF‐7 cells, even at high doses. However, even with high‐dose treatment, FA/MNs do not cause significant cell death. Acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) staining revealed DNA and chromatin condensation in MCF‐7 cells exposed to MNs. Overall, the in vitro study results suggested that FA/MNs have excellent biocompatibility, which applies to biomedical applications. MNs dispersion temperature gradually increases from 26 to 58°C under 808 nm laser irradiation. We found significant mortality rates after NIR irradiation in MNs‐ or FA/MNs‐treated MCF‐7 cells. Cu(In, Ga)(S, Se)2 (CIGSSe) solar cell is one of the most promising thin‐film solar cells with a record power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.6%. Conventional CIGSSe thin‐film solar cells are usually fabricated on Mo‐coated soda‐lime glass substrate, thereby, the sunlight on the rear side cannot be utilized by the monofacial CIGSSe solar cells owing to the opacity of the Mo electrode. CIGSSe solar cells fabricated on transparent conductive oxide (TCO) electrode enable to fabricate bifacial solar cells, which can generate power on both sides of solar cells, so that bifacial solar cells have a high potential application in building‐integrated photovoltaics. However, the PCEs of CIGSSe solar cells fabricated on TCO substrates are significantly lower than those of ones on Mo substrates. In this article, bifacial CIGSSe solar cells on fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate are fabricated by using an ionic liquid‐assisted solution approach and utilizing a MoO3 thin film as an interface layer between FTO and CIGSSe absorber layer, yielding a front‐side PCE of 9.73% and a back‐side PCE of 1.77%. Electrochemical modulation of nonlinear optical (NLO) absorption has recently garnered significant attention. In this work, we demonstrate the effective modulation of the third-order NLO absorption of layered molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) by cation intercalation. Upon application of different negative voltages to samples in different electrolytes, we observe varying degrees of enhancement in MoO3's nonlinear absorption corresponding to different cations and different electrochemical processes. Cation intercalation of H + , Li + , Na + , K + , and Mg 2 + is found to be more effective in enhancing the nonlinear absorption of MoO3 than electrochemisorption of Al 3 + cations. Notably, Li + intercalation leads to the most significant performance improvement, with an enhancement of 11.6 times and a nonlinear absorption coefficient of − 7 9. 8 8 ± 1 1. 2 1 cm GW − 1 . This improvement is ascribed to the increasing number of defect states in MoO3 during ion intercalation, which strengthens its saturation absorption behavior. Carbon nanotube (CNT) field effect transistors (CNFETs) show promise for the next generation VLSI systems due to their excellent scalability, energy efficiency, and speed. However, high leakage current is a drawback of large diameter CNTs (diameter (DCNT) ≥ 1.4 nm) due to the small electronic band gap (EG) ≤ 0.6 eV and effective mass. This work investigates the on‐current and off‐current tradeoff for two populations of semiconducting‐enriched CNT with DCNT ≈ 1.0 nm displaying a simultaneous 50x improvement in minimun current (IMIN) with 2.5x degradation in contact resistance compared to DCNT ≈ 1.4 nm using a Pd side‐bonded contact. A method to enhance the performance of low‐leakage CNFETs is demonstrated using sub‐monolayer self‐aligned contact doping with 0.8 nm of MoOX, which delivers a 57% reduction in contact resistance to DCNT ≈ 1.0 nm. Robustness is verified after annealing at 200 °C for 30 min and monitoring stability across 6 months post‐fabrication with no change in electrical behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Synthesis of chemicals from abundant cellulose is an environmental-friendly route for the biomass conversion. Herein, lactic acid was synthesized from cellulose firstly with an oxidation pretreatment and then through a catalytic process with MoO3/Sn-Beta as the catalyst. During the first step, partial hydroxymethyl groups on cellulose were oxidized by molecular oxygen to the carboxyl acid groups, which acted as the active sites for the following catalytic depolymerization of cellulose. During the second step, conversion of the oxidized cellulose was performed in water with MoO3/Sn-Beta as a catalyst. The hydrolysis of cellulose to glucose was catalyzed by the formed carboxyl acid groups; then, glucose was converted to lactic acid over the Lewis acid sites of MoO3/Sn-Beta. The eco-friendly synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) in the materials science and engineering research field has a great attraction, especially molybdenum-based nanomaterials. Recently, molybdenum-based nanomaterials have become popular in various industrial sectors due to their versatile properties. The current study deals with the synthesis of molybdenum oxide (MoO3) NPs using Terminalia arjuna bark extract. The prepared sample is annealed at different temperatures such as 100, 300, 500, and 700 °C. These samples are characterized by UV–vis, FTIR, and XRD techniques. The XRD analysis of the MoO3 NPs prepared at 700 °C reveals an orthorhombic structure with better crystallinity. The sample is annealed at 700 °C subjected to SEM, EDX, and TEM analysis. EDX elemental analysis reveals the presence of Mo (84.43 wt.%) and O (15.57 wt.%). TEM image interpretation shows the cubic and spherical-shaped particles ranging from 50 to 600 nm. The different concentrations of (1, 2.5, and 5 mg/ml) MoO3 NPs tested for antibacterial application. Better activity is noted against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at 5 mg/ml. The biocompatibility assessment of synthesized MoO3 NPs was evaluated against the model organism Artemia salina nauplii. As a result, none of the tested concentrations revealed the mortality of A. salina nauplii.

Pt-based catalysts are limited in applications greatly due to the scarcity and high cost of the platinum resource. Reducing the load of Pt and improving its utilization are effective strategies to solve the limitations of application for Pt-based catalysts. Herein, a hydrogenated MoO 3 (H x MoO 3 , 0 < x ≤ 2) is employed, which has electrical conductivity as well as reducing properties, to fabricate low-Pt-loading catalysts supported by a carbon cloth (CC) sheet for the hydrogen evolution reactions (HER). Thanks to the single atoms of platinum, the as-prepared Pt/H x MoO 3 @CC catalyst exhibits excellent HER performances and the overpotential is only 53 mV at 10 mA/cm2. The proposed strategy for fabricating Pt-based single-atom catalysts could promote the practical application of the HER of water splitting in electrochemical processes. Catalyst with ultralow Pt loading supported by a carbon cloth can be fabricated by using an electrodeposition method combing with redox reactions. This study explores the use of roll-up nickel films as catalysts for the dehydrogenation of sodium borohydride (NaBH 4). The proposed structure, consisting of a 345-nm-thick Ni film and a 100-nm-thick sacrificial layer, is naturally rolled-up due to thermal stress induced by physical vapor deposition or additional heating. The catalytic performance was evaluated using the water displacement method, and it was found that a three-layer stacked structure using amorphous MoO 3 as the sacrificial layer showed maximum efficiency. The stability of the structure was maintained even after repeated use, and surface analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed the presence of Mo component that accelerates the rate of hydrolysis. Zeta potential and Kelvin probe force microscopy analysis further revealed that the amount of surface electrons of the Ni catalyst can be changed according to the sacrificial layer used. Based on these findings, MoO 3 /Ni/MoO 3 and layered structures were found to have excellent catalytic performance. Importantly, the wafer can be reused, and the catalytic efficiency is maintained even with a low-thickness nickel catalyst, suggesting the economic advantage. MoS2 is a two-dimensional layered transition metal dichalcogenide with unique electronic and optical properties. The fabrication of ultrathin MoS2 is vitally important, since interlayer interactions in its ultrathin varieties will become thickness-dependent, providing thickness-governed tunability and diverse applications of those properties. Unlike with a number of studies that have reported detailed information on direct bandgap emission from MoS2 monolayers, reliable experimental evidence for thickness-induced evolution or transformation of the indirect bandgap remains scarce. Here, the sulfurization of MoO3 thin films with nominal thicknesses of 30 nm, 5 nm and 3 nm was performed. All sulfurized samples were examined at room temperature with spectroscopic ellipsometry and photoluminescence spectroscopy to obtain information about their dielectric function and edge emission spectra. This investigation unveiled an indirect-to-indirect crossover between the transitions, associated with two different Λ and K valleys of the MoS2 conduction band, by thinning its thickness down to a few layers. Self‐powered UV sensing has enormous potential in military and civilian applications. However, achieving high responsivity and fast response/recovery time presents significant challenges. Self‐powered photodetectors (PDs) have several advantages over traditional PDs, including higher sensitivity, lower power consumption, and simpler design. This study introduces a breakthrough self‐powered PD that uses a Schottky junction of 2D α‐MoO3/iridium (Ir)/Si ultrathin film to detect 365 nm light at 0 V bias through using atomic layer deposition (ALD) and sputtering systems. The PD response is enhanced by plasmonic Ir‐induced hot carriers, enabling detection in a mere 0.1 ms. Incorporating a 4 nm Ir layer boosts the responsivity from 0 to 34 A W−1, and the external quantum efficiency is elevated from 0 to 7E11 under 365 nm light illumination. It also has a high ION/IOFF ratio of 11.22E4 at 0 V. These results make the MoO3/4 nm Ir/Si structure an interesting option for self‐powered PDs with high efficiency, and the use of a simple ALD system for large‐scale fabrication of 2D α‐MoO3 on hot carrier Ir plasmonic layer. [Display omitted] Aqueous proton battery is considered as a promising candidate for the electrochemical energy storage system with the merits of safety, environmental benignity, fast kinetics and low cost. The realization of these advantages relies on the development of suitable and easy-access electrode materials. Herein, micron-sized H 2 MoO 3 /Polyaniline (PANI) is developed as a high-rate and stable anode material in proton battery. Contrary to the pseudocapacitive nature of most anode materials, the H 2 MoO 3 /PANI presents diffusion-controlled charge storage mechanism with both high capacity and high rate-capability. The H 2 MoO 3 /PANI electrode shows a rather high capacity of 268.2 mAh g−1 at 1.0 A g−1, and a surprisingly high rate-capability with ∼50% capacity retention even at an extremely high current density of 200.0 A g−1. Detailed analyses demonstrate the Grotthuss mechanism of ultrafast proton conduction in H 2 MoO 3 /PANI. The constructed proton full cell based on H 2 MoO 3 /PANI delivers a high energy density of 42.1 Wh kg−1 at 800.0 W kg−1. Impressively, the proton full cell shows fast proton transportation even in the frozen electrolyte, and ∼70% of the room temperature capacity is retained at −20 °C. Reversible and repeatable control of rare earth ions doped down-shift luminescence materials induced by the external field stimulation can be applied more widely. However, there is still a challenge on reversible luminescence regulation of photochromism-induced rare earth ions doped down-shift luminescence materials by light fields stimulation. The MoO 3 : Eu3+ phosphors changed color from light green to blue due to the formation of color centers caused by the trapping of electrons by oxygen vacancy defects under near infrared irradiation at 808 nm, and recovered from blue to initial light green after heating at 500 °C, showing a reversible change in color. The down-shift luminescence intensity of MoO 3 : Eu3+ phosphors reaches the maximum quenching degree, about 87%, after 20 s irradiation by 808 nm laser, which has the characteristics of fast response and great regulation rate. Moreover, the down-shift luminescence intensity can recover to the initial intensity after heating at 500 °C for 90 s, indicating reversible regulation of photochromism-induced down-shift luminescence. The application of MoO 3 : Eu3+ phosphors as the anti-counterfeiting labels and information storage of binary encoding was designed, these results suggest that it have certain potential applications in anti-counterfeiting and optical storage field. The Venezuelan red mud (RM) is an environmental hazard material which was recycled and modified as support of Mo catalysts for the reaction of thiophene hydrodesulfurization (HDS). The catalysts were prepared using a dry RM impregnated with ammonium heptamolybdate. An non-replicated 32 factorial design was used with two factors: sulfuric acid concentration and MoO3 w/w percentage and three levels: 2, 3 and 4 mol/L of sulfuric acid and 5, 10 and 15% w/w MoO3, respectively. The supports and catalytic precursors were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), BET surface measurements and chemical analysis by atomic absorption to determine the Fe concentration. The highest conversions of thiophene were obtained for catalysts prepared with a low sulfuric acid concentration (2 mol/L) and a medium MoO3 concentration (10 w/w%) being superior to those obtained with a commercial CoMo/Al2O3 catalyst. Acid concentration was statistically significant compared to MoO3 loading. These results could be related to the Fe presence from RM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) shows promise as an anode material for Li/Na-ion batteries due to its low cost and high capacity. However, it suffers from poor cycling stability and volume expansion during charging and discharging, which affects its performance. To overcome these issues, researchers have developed a unique hybrid composite by coating MoO3 nanorods with TiO2, creating MoO3@TiO2 core–shell nanorods. The TiO2 coating significantly improves the composite's cycling stability, rate capability, and overall electrochemical performance in Li/Na-ion batteries. The optimized electrode (MoO3@TiO2-2) achieves an impressive capacity of 1259.4 mA h g–1 after 500 cycles at 200 mA g–1 and a discharge capacity of 693.3 mA h g–1 after 1000 cycles at 2000 mA g–1 in lithium-ion batteries. In sodium-ion batteries, they show high reversible discharge capacities of 499.1 and 389.3 mA h g–1 after 500 cycles at 100 and 200 mA g–1, respectively. Moreover, even after 1200 cycles at 2 A g–1, the electrode retains a capacity of 300.2 mA h g–1. When combined with an NMC811 cathode in a full-cell Li-ion battery, the composite exhibits excellent cycling performance, lasting over 150 cycles with a capacity of 200 mA h g–1. Based on the raw material of ammonium tetramolybdate in the experiment, molybdenum trioxide was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis, and the effects of different pH, hydrothermal reaction time, filling degree, and calcination temperature on molybdenum trioxide powder were studied. Meanwhile, the molybdenum trioxide powder was characterized through scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analysis differential scanning calorimetry analysis so as to study the morphology and phase changes during the experiment. As is evident from the research findings, MoO3 powders with uniform and suitable size, smooth and clear surface, good dispersibility, and no adhesion can be obtained at the conditions of pH = 1, 16 h hydrothermal reaction, 90% of filling degree, and 550°C of calcination temperature. In the calcination process, MoO3 crystal undergone crystal transformation and was completely transformed from h-MoO3 to α-MoO3 at the calcination temperature of 350°C.

Abstract Carbon nanotube (CNT) field effect transistors (CNFETs) show promise for the next generation VLSI systems due to their excellent scalability, energy efficiency, and speed. However, high leakage current is a drawback of large diameter CNTs (diameter (DCNT) ≥ 1.4 nm) due to the small electronic band gap (EG) ≤ 0.6 eV and effective mass. This work investigates the on‐current and off‐current tradeoff for two populations of semiconducting‐enriched CNT with DCNT ≈ 1.0 nm displaying a simultaneous 50x improvement in minimun current (IMIN) with 2.5x degradation in contact resistance compared to DCNT ≈ 1.4 nm using a Pd side‐bonded contact. A method to enhance the performance of low‐leakage CNFETs is demonstrated using sub‐monolayer self‐aligned contact doping with 0.8 nm of MoOX, which delivers a 57% reduction in contact resistance to DCNT ≈ 1.0 nm. Robustness is verified after annealing at 200 °C for 30 min and monitoring stability across 6 months post‐fabrication with no change in electrical behaviors.

A flexible asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) is successfully developed by using the composite of MoO3 and graphene oxide (GO) electrochemically deposited on carbon cloth (CC) (MoO3/rGO/CC) as the cathode, the MnO2 deposited on CC (MnO2/CC) as the anode, and Na2SO4/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the gel electrolyte. The results show that the introduction of the GO layer can remarkably increase the specific capacitance of MoO3 from 282.7 F g−1 to 341.0 F g−1. Furthermore, the combination of such good electrode materials and a neutral gel electrolyte renders the fabrication of high-performance ASC with a large operating potential difference of 1.6 V in a 0.5 mol L−1 Na2SO4 solution of water. Furthermore, the ASCs exhibit excellent cycle ability and the capacitance can maintain 87% of its initial value after 6000 cycles. The fact that a light-emitting diode can be lit up by the ASCs indicates the device’s potential applications as an energy storage device. The encouraging results demonstrate a promising application of the composite of MoO3 and GO in energy storage devices.

Epoxy resins with varying amounts of MoO3 were theoretically investigated for their radiation shielding ability at low energies (between 0.0395 and 0.344 MeV). The quantity of MoO3 varied from 0 to 30%, and relevant shielding parameters were obtained and analyzed from Phy-X software. The half value layer (HVL) of the resins demonstrated that increasing MoO3 content improved the space-efficiency of the prepared samples at all tested energies, leading to the Mo4 sample, the epoxy resin with the greatest MoO3 content having the smallest HVL. Additionally, the mean free path of the materials has an inverse relationship with their density, which increased with additional MoO3. The tenth value layer ratio between Mo1 and Mo4 illustrated how the introduction of Mo has a much greater effect on thickness reduction at lower energies than at higher energies due to photoelectric phenomena. The Z eff and N eff parameters showed how the epoxy samples benefitted from the introduction of MoO3 at different energies.
