Mentol je organska spojina, ki v primeru topične ali peroralne uporabe sproži hladilni občutek in lahko pomembno vpliva na izbrane subjektivne občutke – raven zaznanega napora, raven zaznanega toplotnega udobja in raven zaznane temperature ter posledično športno zmogljivost, zlasti v vročem in vlažnem okolju. Večina dosedanjih raziskav kaže v smer, da v nasprotju s topično uporabo mentola, peroralna uporaba mentola rezultira v (naj)večjem pozitivnem učinku na športno zmogljivost. Na podlagi navedenega je bil glavni namen pričujočega magistrskega dela ugotoviti učinke zaužitja ogljikohidratnega napitka z dodatkom mentola na zmogljivost kolesarjenja med kolesarjenjem na kolesarskem trenažerju, subjektivne občutke, srčno-dihalne in termo-regulacijske odzive. V okviru pričujočega magistrskega dela je 12 odraslih rekreativnih, zdravih kolesarjev moškega spola (starost 28,8 ± 4,5 let telesna višina 180,8 ± 6,0 cm telesna masa 78,6 ± 10,2 kg in največji privzem kisika 57,2 ± 6,3 ml/kg/min) trikrat obiskalo laboratorij. Prvič so opravili osnovno vadbeno testiranje za določitev vadbenih obremenitev, ventilatornih pragov (VT) in točke respiratorne kompenzacije (RCP). Med drugim in tretjim obiskom pa so opravili dve eksperimentalni testiranji, ki sta bili sestavljeni iz enournega kolesarjenja pri intenzivnosti 90 % VT1, kateremu je takoj sledilo kolesarjenje do izčrpanosti pri intenzivnosti 105 % RCP. Tekom enournega kolesarjenja pri intenzivnosti 90 % VT1 so randomizirano in dvojno zaslepljeno enkrat uživali ogljikohidratni napitek z dodatkom mentola, enkrat pa ogljikohidratni napitek brez dodatka mentola (placebo). Analiza pridobljenih podatkov je pokazala, da uživanje ogljikohidratnega napitka z dodatkom mentola v primerjavi z uživanjem placeba ni podaljšalo časa do utrujenosti ter ni vplivalo na spremljane subjektivne občutke, srčno-dihalne in termo-regulacijske odzive telesa na napor. Edina statistično značilna razlika (p < 0,05) med obema pogojema se je pojavila v okviru vprašalnika o napitkih, in sicer preiskovanci so se po zaužitju ogljikohidratnega napitka z dodatkom mentola počutili hladneje kot po zaužitju placeba. Rezultati pričujočega magistrskega dela kažejo na to, da uživanje ogljikohidratnega napitka z dodatkom mentola nima pomembnega vpliva na raven zaznanega napora, raven zaznanega toplotnega udobja in raven zaznane temperature ter ne podaljša časa do utrujenosti oziroma izboljša športne zmogljivosti odraslih rekreativnih, zdravih kolesarjev moškega spola. Menthol is an organic compound that, in the case of topical or oral use, elicit a cooling sensation that appears to have a significant effect on selected subjective sensations – rate of perceived exertion, thermal comfort and thermal sensation, and consequently athletic performance, especially in a humid and hot environment. Majority of up-to-date research suggest, that, unlike the topical use of menthol, oral use of menthol results in greatest beneficial effect on athletic performance. Accordingly, the main purpose of present master thesis was to assess the effects of the consumption of a carbohydrate drink with the addition of menthol while cycling on cycling trainer on cycling performance, subjective sensations, cardio-respiratory and thermo-regulatory responses. In the present study, 12 adult recreational, healthy male cyclists (age 28,8 ± 4,5 years height 180,8 ± 6,0 cm weight 78,6 ± 10,2 kg and maximum oxygen uptake 57.2 ± 6.3 ml/kg/min) underwent three experimental sessions. At the first visit, they performed basic exercise testing to determine exercise loads, ventilatory thresholds (VT) and respiratory compensation point (RCP). Between the second and the third visit, they performed two experimental tests, which consisted of one hour of cycling at 90% VT1, immediately followed by cycling to exhaustion at 105% RCP. During one hour of cycling at 90% VT1 they randomized and double-blinded once consumed a carbohydrate drink with the addition of menthol, and once a carbohydrate drink without the addition of menthol (placebo). The obtained data showed that the consumption of a carbohydrate drink with the addition of menthol, compared with consumption of placebo did not extend the time to volitional exhaustion, and did not affect the monitored subjective sensations, cardio-respiratory and thermo-regulatory responses of the body to exertion. The only statistically significant difference (p < 0,05) between the conditions occurred in the beverage questionnaire, namely that subjects felt colder after consuming a carbohydrate drink with the addition of menthol than after consuming placebo. The present study suggests that the consumption of a carbohydrate drink with the addition of menthol does not affect the rate of perceived exertion, thermal comfort and thermal sensation, as well as does not extend the time to volitional exhaustion or improve athletic performance of adult recreational, healthy male cyclist.

Objective: to assess the hydrogenic potential and salivary volume before and after using menthol chewing gum in healthy volunteers. Method: this is a quantitative, quasi-experimental, pre-test and post-test study, carried out with 45 healthy volunteers between 18 and 60 years old. The saliva sample was collected in a non-stimulated manner, following the spitting method. Volunteers were asked to accumulate saliva in their mouths and spit it out into a millimeter flask, every minute, before and after receiving the menthol chewing gum, for ten minutes at each step. A bioincrustação marinha tem afetado negativamente a indústria náutica e o meio ambiente tem sofrido com esta ação. Até ao momento, não existem soluções sustentáveis, económicas e ambientalmente benignas para lidar com este fenómeno. Os avanços alcançados em solventes verdes promovem o surgimento de solventes eutécticos (DES), que possuem excelentes aplicações em diversos campos e podem ser revolucionários neste sector da indústria náutica. Neste estudo, o principal objetivo foi investigar o potencial de DES hidrofóbicos à base de mentol e ácidos orgânicos naturais para utilização em tintas náuticas antifouling. A nossa estratégia resultou na caracterização físico-química de diferentes formulações, o que permitiu identificar a razão molar mais adequada e as interações intermoleculares por trás das formações bem-sucedidas dos DES. A miscibilidade destes DES na tinta náutica foi avaliada e bem-sucedida. O desempenho biológico dos sistemas foi estudado em termos da sua atividade antimicrobiana contra um painel de microrganismos. O sistema Men:OL (1:1) demonstrou ser mais promissor, tendo sido o escolhido nos testes subsequentes. Os seus benefícios em termos de custo-produção também contribuíram para esta escolha. O perfil citoxicológico deste DES foi avaliado para células HaCat e demonstrou não promover citotoxicidade relevante. Além disso, foi estudada a aplicação do sistema incorporado nas tintas referidas em estruturas náuticas, recorrendo a espécies marinhas para avaliação do seu efeito antifouling. Os ensaios bioquímicos realizados nas espécies marinhas demonstraram que o DES não induz stress oxidativo nas espécies testadas. Marine biofouling has negatively affected the nautical industry and the environment has suffered from this action. So far, there are no sustainable, economical and environmentally benign solutions to deal with this phenomenon. The advances achieved in green solvents promote the emergence of eutectic solvents (DES), which have excellent applications in various fields and can be revolutionary in this sector of the nautical industry. In this study, the main objective was to investigate the potential of hydrophobic DES based on menthol and natural organic acids for use in nautical antifouling paints. Our strategy resulted in the physicochemical characterization of different formulations, which allowed us to identify the most suitable molar ratio and the intermolecular interactions behind the successful formations of DES. The miscibility of these DES in nautical paint was evaluated and successful. The biological performance of the systems was studied in terms of their antimicrobial activity against a panel of microorganisms. The Men:OL (1:1) system proved to be more promising, having been chosen in subsequent tests. Its cost-production benefits also contributed to this choice. The cytotoxicological profile of this DES was evaluated for HaCat cells and demonstrated not to promote relevant cytotoxicity. In addition, the application of the system incorporated in the paints mentioned in nautical structures was studied, using marine species to assess their antifouling effect. DES was promising in combating marine macrofouling and enhanced the properties of conventional nautical paints, providing indications about its usefulness as a strong candidate for application in nautical antifouling paints. Biochemical tests carried out on marine species demonstrated that DES does not induce oxidative stress in the species tested.

Področje učinkovitosti izdelkov z vgrajenimi kozmetično aktivnimi sestavinami za povečanje prekrvitve je slabo raziskano, saj je podatkov o njihovem delovanju po nanosu na kožo zelo malo. Klasične kozmetično aktivne sestavine za povečanje prekrvitve, kot so mentol, kafra, kapsaicin, escin, arginin idr. najpogosteje zasledimo v športni kozmetiki in izdelkih za lajšanje mišično-skeletnih bolečin, v katerih naj bi po njihovem nanosu na kožo z delovanjem na temperaturno občutljive receptorje v koži povzročile vazodilatacijo in povečano prekrvitev kože. Poleg številnih metod, ki prekrvitev kože določajo neposredno z merjenjem krvnega pretoka kože, pa obstajajo metode, s katerimi merimo spremenljivke, ki odražajo spremembe v prekrvitvi kože. V okviru in vivo študije smo tako učinkovitost izdelkov z vgrajenimi kozmetično aktivnimi sestavinami za povečanje prekrvitve vrednotili posredno preko spremembe temperature kože, in sicer s termovizijsko kamero, ki izkorišča pojav sevanja infrardečega valovanja s površine kože. V diplomski nalogi smo vrednotili vpliv štirih različnih izdelkov na temperaturo kože, ki so se med seboj razlikovali glede na aktivno sestavino za povečanje prekrvitve (mentol, kafra, kapsaicin), tehnološko obliko (hidrogel, lipofilna krema) in skupino izdelka (kozmetični izdelek, medicinski pripomoček, zdravilo brez recepta). Na podlagi rezultatov smo ugotovili, da so izdelki z vgrajenim mentolom izkazali enak časovno odvisen učinek, in sicer takoj po nanosu statistično značilno znižanje temperature kože glede na bazalno vrednost, po 5 minutah od nanosa pa statistično značilno povišanje glede na vrednosti takoj po nanosu. Enak trend spreminjanja temperature smo prav tako opazili pri izdelku, ki poleg mentola vsebuje tudi kafro. Pri izdelku z vgrajenim kapsaicinom tekom meritev ni prišlo do statistično značilnih sprememb v temperaturi kože. Ugotovili smo, da so statistično značilne razlike v spremembi temperature kože med izdelki prisotne v intervalu prvih 5 minut, in so najverjetneje posledica različne sestave oz. tehnološke oblike izdelkov. Zaključimo lahko, da termografija kot komplementarna tehnika za vrednotenje temperature kože predstavlja inovativen in perspektiven način spremljanja učinkovitosti KAS za povečanje prekrvitve v prihodnje. The efficacy of products with rubefacients is poorly understood as there is very little data on how they work following application on the skin. Typical rubefacients, such as menthol, camphor, capsaicin, aescin, arginine, etc., are most commonly found in sports cosmetics and musculoskeletal pain relief products, which when applied on the skin, are thought to cause vasodilatation and increased blood flow to the skin by activating temperature-sensitive receptors. In addition to the many methods that determine skin blood flow directly, others measure variables indicating changes in skin blood flow. Thus, within performed in vivo study, the efficacy of products with rubefacients was evaluated indirectly by measuring change in skin temperature, using a thermal imaging camera that utilises the appearance of infrared radiation on the surface of the skin. In the thesis, the effect of four different products, differing in the incorporated rubefacient (menthol, camphor, capsaicin), technological form (hydrogel, lipophilic cream) and product group (cosmetic product, medical aid, nonprescription medicine), on skin temperature was evaluated. The results showed that products with menthol had the same time-dependent effect, i.e. a statistically significant decrease in skin temperature immediately after application compared to the basal value, and a statistically significant increase in skin temperature five minutes after application compared to the values immediately after application. The same trend of temperature changes was observed while testing the product which, in addition to the menthol, contained camphor. The product with capsaicin did not cause statistically significant changes in skin temperature during the measurements. Statistically significant differences in skin temperature change between the products were observed during the first five minutes and are most likely due to the different composition or technological formulation of the products. In conclusion, thermography as a complementary technique for skin temperature evaluation represents an innovative and promising method for monitoring the efficacy of rubefacients in further studies.

The action of menthol on physiological and anesthesiological variables in rainbow trout was evaluated. Clinically healthy juvenile trout were used, of both sexes, formed in group A (n=20) of 201.4 ± 60.1 g of weight subjected to 100 ppm/L of menthol in water at pH 6.4 and in group B (n=20) of 187.3 ± 48.6 g of weight exposed to identical concentration of menthol with the water adjusted to pH 8.0 with sodium bicarbonate. The fish were placed in containers with water at 16.7 °C and electrical conductivity of 0.10 mS cm-1. The work methodology was: 1) acclimatization of fish in a container without drug and recording of the basal respiratory rate (RR) after adopting a normal swimming behavior; 2) transfer to a second container with menthol and recording of times of loss of lateral balance and anesthesia; 3) transfer of anesthetized fish to a third container without drug and record of RR and its behavior during the recovery period. In group A, anesthesia was achieved in 127.7 ± 46.3 s with a strong reduction in baseline RR from 132.4 ± 12.6 to 40.4 ± 14.4 mov/min and total recovery occurred in 189.7 ± 64.2 s. In group B, anesthesia and recovery time were observed at 93.4 ± 34.3 and 181.7 ± 68.0 s, respectively, and a reduction in RR from 137 ± 14.3 to 43.6 ± 10.4 mov/min. The results indicate that menthol in water adjusted to pH 8.0 is a good alternative for rainbow trout fish farming practices., Se evaluó la acción de mentol sobre variables fisiológicas y anestesiológicas en truchas arcoíris. Se trabajó con truchas juveniles clínicamente sanas, de ambos sexos, conformadas en grupo A (n= 20) de 201.4 ± 60.1 g de peso sometidas a 100 ppm/L de mentol en agua a pH 6.4 y en grupo B (n=20) de 187.3 ± 48.6 g de peso expuestos a idéntica concentración de mentol con el agua ajustada a pH 8.0 con bicarbonato de sodio. Los peces se ubicaron en recipientes con agua a 16.7 °C y conductividad eléctrica de 0.10 mS cm-1. La metodología de trabajo fue: 1) aclimatación de peces en un recipiente sin fármaco y registro de la frecuencia respiratoria basal (FR) tras adoptar un comportamiento normal de natación; 2) transferencia a un segundo recipiente con mentol y registro de tiempos de pérdida de equilibrio lateral y de anestesia; 3) traspaso de peces anestesiados al tercer recipiente sin fármaco y registro de FR y su comportamiento durante el periodo de recuperación. En el grupo A la anestesia se logró en 127.7 ± 46.3 s con fuerte reducción de la FR basal de 132.4 ± 12.6 a 40.4 ± 14.4 mov/min y la recuperación total se produjo en 189.7 ± 64.2 s. En el grupo B se observó tiempo de anestesia y recuperación a los 93.4 ± 34.3 y 181.7 ± 68.0 s, respectivamente, y reducción de la FR desde 137 ± 14.3 a 43.6 ± 10.4 mov/min. Los resultados indican que mentol en agua ajustado a pH 8.0 es una buena alternativa para las prácticas de piscicultura de truchas arcoíris.

Isso leva a problemas relacionados à biodisponibilidade, poluição ambiental, toxicidade para o hospedeiro e manejadores, e poder cumulativo de resíduo em produtos de origem animal. Nanotecnologia é utilizada para tentar diminuir e evitar estes problemas, possibilitando a confecção de nanopartículas que permitem o desenvolvimento de sistemas coloidais focados na entrega de nutrientes e fármacos. Deste modo, este estudo teve por objetivo preparar, caracterizar e desenvolver sistemas nanocarreadores a partir da zeína, associando ivermectina e isolados vegetais para otimizar o controle de carrapatos, produzindo formulações alternativas visando aplicações em veterinária. Nanopartículas de zeína foram desenvolvidas pelo método de precipitação com anti-solvente, sendo analisadas em função do tempo (0 a 120 dias), avaliando suas propriedades físico-químicas, como, pH, diâmetro hidrodinâmico, polidispersão, potencial zeta e eficiência de encapsulação. Foram também realizados testes in vitro com R. (B.) microplus para determinar a eficácia carrapaticida, através de testes de pacote com larvas (TPL) e imersão de larvas (TIL) e adultos (TIA), além de avaliar a atividade residual das formulações desenvolvidas. Teste de toxicidade em Caenorhabditis elegans também foi realizado após constatação da ação carrapaticida. As formulações apresentaram diâmetro médio inicial por volta de 166 nm para nanopartículas sem ativos com potencial zeta de -21 mV. Ao se realizar a encapsulação, ocorreu aumento de tamanho médio para cerca de 203 nm e de potencial zeta para -14 mV. Todas as nanoformulações apresentaram inicialmente índice de polidispersão próximo a 0,2, e concentração de partículas entre 1,2 e 1,4 x 1013 partículas/mL. Durante o estudo as nanoformulações apresentaram aumento de tamanho e polispersão, e diminuição na concentração de partículas. Os ensaios in vitro realizados sobre R. (B.) microplus demonstraram que a nanopartícula de zeína sem nenhum composto não apresenta efeito, porém ao adicionar os compostos ativos, todas as formulações apresentaram ação acaricida, obtendo-se no TPL mortalidade entre 74 e 100%, e atividade residual superior a 94% no período de 30 dias. Já para o TIA, a eficácia foi superior a 72% em concentrações entre 5 e 0,313 mg/mL, e no TIL as nanoformulações apresentaram eficácia de 100% em concentrações entre 5 e 0,625 mg/mL. No teste de toxicidade com C. elegans observou-se que as nanoformulações não ocasionaram alterações após a exposição. Assim, foi possível desenvolver nanoformulações estáveis, permitindo o desenvolvimento de novos nanocarrapaticidas empregando-se menor concentração de princípios ativos, mantendo a eficácia, diminuindo o risco de presença de resíduos, promovendo um controle parasitário mais seguro. The control of ectoparasites in cattle is based on the intensive use of acaricides, triggering the development of resistance in parasites to various compounds. This leads to problems related to bioavailability, environmental pollution, toxicity to the host and managers, and the cumulative power of waste in products of animal origin. Nanotechnology is used to try to reduce and avoid these problems, making it possible to manufacture nanoparticles that allow the development of colloidal systems focused on the delivery of nutrients and drugs. Thus, this study aimed to prepare, characterize and develop nanocarrier systems based on zein, combining ivermectin and plant isolates to optimize the control of ticks, producing alternative formulations aimed at veterinary applications. Zein nanoparticles were developed by the anti-solvent precipitation method, being analyzed as a function of time (0 to 120 days), evaluating their physical-chemical properties, such as pH, hydrodynamic diameter, polydispersion, zeta potential and encapsulation efficiency. In vitro tests were also carried out with R. (B.) microplus to determine the tick effectiveness by using larval packet tests (TPL) and larval immersion (TIL) and adults (TIA), in addition to assessing the residual activity developed formulations. Toxicity test on Caenorhabditis elegans was also carried out after finding the tick action. The formulations showed an initial average diameter of around 166 nm for nanoparticles without assets with a zeta potential of -21 mV. Upon encapsulation, there was an increase in average size to about 203 nm and zeta potential to -14 mV. All nanoformulations initially presented a polydispersity index close to 0.2, and a particle concentration between 1.2 and 1.4 x 1013 particles/mL. During the study, nanoformulations showed an increase in size and polyspersion, and a decrease in the concentration of particles. The in vitro tests carried out on R. (B.) microplus demonstrated that the zein nanoparticle without any compound has no effect, however, when adding the active compounds, all formulations showed an acaricidal action, resulting in TPL mortality between 74 and 100 %, and residual activity greater than 94% in the 30-day period. As for TIA, the efficacy was greater than 72% in concentrations between 5 and 0.313 mg/mL, and in TIL, nanoformulations showed 100% efficacy in concentrations between 5 and 0.625 mg/mL. In the toxicity test with C. elegans, it was observed that the nanoformulations did not cause changes after exposure. Thus, it was possible to develop stable nanoformulations, allowing the development of new nanocarrapaticides using a lower concentration of active ingredients, maintaining efficiency, decreasing the risk of the presence of residues, promoting safer parasitic control. 88882.434504/2019-01

This study evaluated the influence of seasonality in essential oil (EO) chemical composition of Mentha x piperita L. and Mentha viridis L. grown in southeast of Brazil. Leaves were collected from November 2011 until August 2013, in the middle of the following seasons: Spring (November), Summer (February), Autumn (May) and Winter (August). EO extraction was carried out by hydrodistillation in Clevenger apparatus for 1 hour. Chemical composition of EO was analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. The EO content and its chemical composition were influenced by seasonality in both species. The highest EO content was obtained for M. x piperita during spring (4.26%) and for M. viridis during spring (3.30%) and summer (3.70%). Mentha x piperita increased menthol (16.31 to 41.26%), neomenthol (3.02 to 6.39%) and menthone (5.56 to 41.58%) contents during spring and summer, respectively. Whereas, M. viridis EO content did not show a quality response pattern in relation to seasonality. Therefore, harvest time for M. x piperita is recommended during spring, and for M. viridis is recommended during spring and summer. RESUMO: O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da sazonalidade na composição química do óleo essencial (OE) de Mentha x piperita L. e Mentha viridis L. cultivadas no sudeste do Brasil. As folhas foram coletadas de novembro de 2011 até agosto de 2013, em meados das seguintes estações: primavera (novembro), verão (fevereiro), outono (maio) e inverno (agosto). A extração do OE foi realizada por hidrodestilação em aparelho de Clevenger por uma hora. A composição química do EO foi analisada por GC-FID and GC-MS. O teor de OE e sua composição química foram influenciados pela sazonalidade em ambas as espécies. O maior teor de OE foi obtido para M. x piperita na primavera (4,26%) e para M. viridis na primavera (3,30%) e verão (3,70%). Mentha x piperita aumentou o conteúdo de mentol (16,31 a 41,26%), neomentol (3,02 a 6,39%) e mentona (5,56 a 41,58%) durante a primavera e o verão, respectivamente. Já o conteúdo de OE de M. viridis não apresentou padrão de resposta de qualidade em relação à sazonalidade. Portanto, a colheita para M. x piperita é recomendada durante a primavera, e para M. viridis é recomendada durante a primavera e verão.

RESUMEN Se desarrolló y validó un método por cromatografía gaseosa para la cuantificación simultánea de mentol (MT), salicilato de metilo (SM), timol (TM) y ácido benzoico (AB) en una solución antiséptica bucal. Se utilizó una columna DB-WAX y dietilenglicol como estándar interno. Se determinó la linealidad en un intervalo de concentraciones de 64,00 a 96,00 µg/mL (MT), 80,00 a 120,00 µg/mL (SM), 96,00 a 144,00 µg/mL (TM) y 48,00 a 72,00 µg/mL (AB), obteniendo coeficientes de correlación superiores a 0,999, y coeficientes de variación de los factores de respuestas de 1,18, 1,95, 3,52 y 1,48%, respectivamente. Se establecieron límites de detección de 0,51; 1,14; 3,34 y 1,402 ng/mL para el MT, SM, TM y AB, respectivamente, mientras los límites de cuantificación fueron de 1,45, 3, 43, 9, 73 y 4, 36 ng/mL en cada caso. Los porcentajes de recuperación fueron de 100,03, 99, 31, 99, 92 y 100,12; con coeficientes de variación de 0,42, 0,79, 0,66 y 0,76% para cada caso. El método fue lineal, exacto, preciso y selectivo para la determinación de los analitos en el control de calidad. SUMMARY A method was developed and validated by gas chromatography for the simultaneous quantification of menthol (MT), methyl salicylate (SM), thymol (TM) and benzoic acid (AB) in an oral antiseptic solution. A DB-WAX column and diethylene glycol was used as internal standard. Linearity was determined in a concentration range of 64.00 to 96.00 µg/mL (MT), 80.00 to 120.00 µg/mL (SM), 96.00 to 144.00 µg/mL (TM) and 48.00 to 72.00 µg/mL (AB) achieving correlation coefficients greater than 0.999, and coefficients of variation of the response factors of 1.18, 1.95, 3.52 and 1.48%, respectively. Detection limits were established: 0.51, 1.14, 3.34 and 1.402 ng/mL for MT, SM, TM, and AB, respectively, while the quantification limits were 1.45, 3.43, 9.73 and 4.36 ng/mL in each case. Recovery percentages were 100.03, 99.31, 99.92 and 100.12; with coefficients of variation of 0.42, 0.79, 0.66 and 0.76% for each case. The method was linear, accurate, precise, and selective for the determination of analytes in quality control.

Mentol je ciklični monoterpenski alkohol, ki je pomembna sestavina več kot 100 eteričnih olj. Najbolj znana je njegova prisotnost v raznih vrstah iz rodu Meta (Mentha). Mentol najpogosteje pridobivamo iz eteričnega olja poprove mete s parno destilacijo. Pri standardnih pogojih je trden, v obliki belih ali brezbarvnih kristalov. Kafrovec spada v družino lovorovk (Lauraceae) in je pogost v vzhodni in južni Aziji. Je eden izmed najpomembnejših naravnih virov kafre. Kafra nastaja v celicah, ki so porazdeljene po celotnem drevesu. Naravno kafro pridobivajo s parno destilacijo lesa kafrovca, ki ji sledi čiščenje, najpogosteje s kristalizacijo ali sublimacijo. Pojavlja se v obliki brezbarvnih ali belih kristalov z močnim, značilnim vonjem. Namen naše diplomske naloge je bil preveriti vpliv manjših sprememb v strukturah kafre in mentola na vonj produktov kemijskih reakcij. V eksperimentalnem delu naloge smo najprej uspešno reducirali kafro. Nato smo z uporabo klasičnih metod organske kemije izvedli šest kemijskih reakcij, katerih produkti so bili hlapni derivati reducirane kafre ali mentola. Kolonsko adsorpcijsko kromatografijo smo uporabili za izolacijo in čiščenje produktov. Uspešnost reakcij in identiteto produktov smo potrdili z uporabo instrumentalnih analiznih metod, v našem primeru z jedrsko magnetno resonanco in infrardečo spektroskopijo. Masnih spektrov z obstoječimi napravami na Katedri za farmacevtsko kemijo, Fakultete za farmacijo, zaradi slabe ionizacije produktov nismo uporabili. Z vonjalno analizo smo ovrednotili mentol, kafro, reducirano kafro in dva produkta naših sintez. Preizkuševalci so morali oceniti prijetnost in jakost vzorcev. Na koncu pa so morali v tabelo vpisati še asociacije, ki so se jim porodile pri posameznih vzorcih. Večina testirancev je ocenila njihov vonj kot prijeten. Kot najintenzivnejši vonj so anketiranci ocenili vonj mentola. Izdelali smo tudi preprost poltrdni kozmetični izdelek, in sicer hidrogel, ki je vseboval kafro in mentol. Ob nanosu na kožo se je pojavil hladilni občutek. Čez nekaj tednov smo zaznali razrast mikroorganizmov zaradi pomanjkanja konzervansa in posledično slabe protimikrobne zaščite. Menthol is a cyclic monoterpene alcohol which is an important ingredient in more than 100 essential oils. Its presence is best known in various plants that belong to the mint genus (Mentha). Menthol is obtained primarily from essential peppermint oil by steam distillation. At room temperature it is solid and in the form of white or colorless crystals. Camphor tree belongs to the laurel family (Lauraceae) and it is widespread in East and South Asia. It is one of the most important natural sources of camphor. Camphor is formed in cells that are distributed throughout the entire tree. Natural camphor is obtained by steam distillation of camphor wood, followed by crystallization or sublimation. It appears in the form of colorless or white crystals with a strong and distinctive smell. The aim of our thesis was to test the effect of minor changes in structures of menthol and camphor on the smell of products of chemical reactions. In the experimental part, we first successfully reduced camphor. Then using classical methods of organic chemistry, we performed six syntheses, the products of which were volatile derivatives of reduced camphor or menthol. Column adsorption chromatography was used to isolate and purify our desired products. The success of the reactions and the identity of the products were verified by using instrumental methods of analysis, in our case nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy. We did not use the mass spectrometry devices at The Chair of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy due to poor ionization of the products. By odor analysis we have made olfactory evaluation of menthol, camphor, reduced camphor and two of our synthesis products. The respondents had to evaluate the pleasantness and strength of the samples. Finally, they had to write down the associations that came to their mind for all individual samples. Most of the test subjects rated their smell as pleasant. Respondents rated the smell of menthol as the most intense. In addition, we formed a hydrogel which is a simple semi-solid cosmetic product. It contained camphor and menthol. When applied to the skin, a cooling sensation appeared. After a few weeks, we detected an overgrowth of microorganisms due to lack of preservative and consequent poor antimicrobial protection.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Os óleos essenciais são compostos biodegradáveis ricamente concentrados em metabólitos secundários de plantas aromáticas que apresentam potencial para serem utilizados como promotores de crescimento para peixes. Dentre as plantas utilizadas como fonte de óleo essencial, a hortelã-pimenta, Mentha piperita, se destaca pelas suas propriedades estimuladoras de enzimas digestivas e sobre a saúde e integridade do trato gastrintestinal melhorando a capacidade de absorção de nutrientes. Objetivou-se avaliar com o presente estudo os efeitos do óleo essencial de hortelã-pimenta (OEP) na dieta de tilápia-do-Nilo sobre desempenho produtivo, parâmetros bioquímicos, atividade das enzimas digestivas e composição química da carcaça. Para tal, foi utilizado delineamento inteiramente casualizado com sete tratamentos os quais consistiram de dietas isoproteicas (313,60 g kg −1 ) e isocalóricas (4565,31 kcal kg −1 ) contendo diferentes níveis de OEP (0,00; 0,20; 0,40; 0,60; 0,80; 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 ) com seis repetições. 840 juvenis de tilápia-do-Nilo (0,58 ± 0,13g) foram distribuídos em 42 aquários (70 L) e foram alimentados nos horários 8:00, 11:00, 14:00 e 17:00 horas, durante oito semanas. Ao final do período experimental foram avaliados nos peixes os índices de desempenho produtivo, para os parâmetros bioquímicos foi avaliado o metabolismo energético e a atividade das enzimas metabólicas aspartato amino transferase (AST), alanina amino transferase (ALT) e a lactato desidrogenase (LDH), a atividade das enzimas digestivas proteases totais, lipase e amilase e a composição química da carcaça. O maior ganho de peso e taxa de crescimento específico (p < 0,05) foram observados nos peixes que receberam 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP. A conversão alimentar e a eficiência alimentar foram melhores (p < 0,05) nos peixes que receberam os níveis 0,00 e 1,00 g kg −1 de OEP. A maior taxa de eficiência proteica (p < 0,05) foi observada nos peixes que receberam os níveis 0,20, 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP na dieta. Não houve diferença significativa (p > 0,05) para a taxa de sobrevivência, para os índices hepatossomáticos e viscerossomáticos e para o rendimento de carcaça. Maiores concentrações (p < 0,05) de glicogênio hepático foram observadas em peixes que se alimentaram com dietas contendo os níveis 0,00; 0,20 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP, e maiores concentrações (p < 0,05) de glicogênio muscular foram observadas nos peixes que receberam o nível 0,40 g kg −1 de OEP.Foram observadas nos animais as maiores concentrações (p < 0,05) de glicose com o nível 0,80 g kg −1 de OEP na dieta, e de lactato com os níveis de 0,40 a 1,00 g kg −1 de OEP na dieta. A menor concentração (p < 0,05) de colesterol total foi observada nos peixes que receberam a dieta controle (0,00 g kg −1 de OEP). As menores concentrações (p < 0,05) de triglicerídeos e de HDL foram observadas nos peixes que receberam os níveis 0,00; 0,80; 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP. Enquanto que os peixes apresentaram as menores concentrações (p < 0,05) de LDL foram se alimentaram com as dietas contendo os níveis 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP. A enzima AST apresentou menor atividade (p < 0,05) nos animais com o nível 0,60 g kg −1 de OEP na dieta. A atividade da enzima ALT foi menor (p < 0,05) nos peixes que se alimentaram com os níveis 0,00; 0,20; 0,80; 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP na dieta. A atividade da enzima LDH foi menor (p < 0,05) nos peixes que receberam os níveis 0,00; 0,20; 0,40; 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP. A maior atividade (p < 0,05) das enzimas proteases totais foi observada nos peixes que receberam a dieta com 1,00 g kg −1 de OEP, a da lipase com os níveis de 1,00 e 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP e a da amilase com 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP. A composição química da carcaça não apresentou diferença (p > 0,05) para matéria seca, energia e cinzas. Observou-se maior teor de proteína bruta (p < 0,05) nos peixes que receberam o nível com 1,20 g kg −1 de OEP e o menor teor de extrato etéreo (p < 0,05) foi observado em todos os peixes que se alimentaram com as dietas contendo a inclusão do OEP. Lipase. Amilase. Essential oils are biodegradable concentrated compounds obtained from aromatic plants and they are rich in secondary metabolites from plants. Which have a potential to be used as growth promoter for fish. Among the plants used as a source of essential oil, the peppermint (Mentha piperita) has properties on the stimulation of digestive enzymes and on the integrity and health of the gastrintestinal trait improving the assimilation of nutrients by the fish. The aim of this study is to evaluate the essential oil of Mentha piperita (OEP) as Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) growth promoter and its effects on growth performance, biochemical parameters, digestive enzymes, and carcass chemical composition. A completely randomized design was used with seven treatments consisted with isoproteic (313.60 g kg −1 ) and isocaloric (4565.31 kcal kg −1 ) diets containing different levels of OEP (0.00; 0.20; 0.40; 0.60; 0.80; 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 ) and six replicates. 840 juveniles of Nile tilapia (0.58 ± 0.13g) were distributed in 42 tanks (70 L) and they were fed in the hours 8:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 for eight weeks. At the end of experiment trial the growth performance, the biochemical parameters as the energetic metabolism and metabolic enzymes activity aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), the digestive enzymes activity of total protease, lipase and amylase and the carcass chemical composition were evaluated in the fishes. The higher values (p < 0.05) of weight gain and specific growth rate were observed in fish fed 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. The reduction of values (p < 0.05) of feed conversion ratio and the higher value of feed efficiency (p < 0.05) were recorded in fish fed 0.00 and 1.00 g kg −1 OEP. The higher (p < 0.05) protein efficiency rate was observed in fishes that received 0.20, 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. No significant difference (p > 0.05) in the survival rate, hepatosomatic index, viscerossomatic index and carcass yield were recorded. The increase of concentration (p < 0.05) of hepatic glycogen was observed in fish fed 0.00, 0.20 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP, and for the muscular glycogen the higher concentration (p < 0.05) was in fish fed 0.40 g kg −1 OEP. An increase in glucose concentration (p < 0.05) was observed in fish fed 0.80 g kg −1 OEP. The higher values of lactate concentration (p < 0.05) were recorded in fish fed 0.40 to 1.00 g kg −1 OEP. The total cholesterol reduction (p < 0.05) was observed in fishes that received the control diet (0.00 g kg −1 OEP). The triglyceride and HDL reduction (p < 0.05) were recorded in fishfed 0.00, 0.80, 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. The LDL concentration reduction (p < 0.05) was observed in fish fed 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. The activity reduction of AST (p < 0.05) was observed in fish fed 0.60 g kg −1 OEP, and the activity reduction of ALT (p < 0.05) was show in fishes that received the diets containing 0.00, 0.20, 0.80, 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. The reduction of LDH activity (p < 0.05) was recorded in fish fed 0.00, 0.20, 0.40, 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. An increase of total protease activity (p < 0.05) was observed in fishes that received diets containing 1.00 g kg −1 OEP. The lipase activity (p < 0.05) was increased in fishes fed 1.00 and 1.20 g kg −1 OEP and the increase of amylase activity (p < 0.05) was observed in fish fed 1.20 g kg −1 OEP. The dietary OEP has no significant effect (p > 0.05) on dry matter, crude energy and ashes of carcass chemical composition. Diets containing 1.20 g kg −1 OEP (p < 0.05) increased the crude protein content of carcass and all levels of OEP inclusion in the diets (p < 0.05) reduced the crude lipid content of carcass of the fishes. In conclusion, the level of 1.20 g kg −1 OEP can act as growth promoter of juveniles of Oreochromis niloticus when used as a supplement in diets. Keywords: Phytoadditive. Feed additive. Menthol. Eterična olja in spojine iz njih so pogosto uporabljene sestavine kozmetičnih izdelkov. Imajo različne funkcije v kozmetiki, kot so odišavljanje izdelkov, antiseptično in antioksidantno delovanje. Poleg pomirjevalnega učinka so lahko nekatere spojine dražeče za kožo, zato nas je zanimalo, v kolikšni meri sestavine eteričnih olj lipofilne narave prehajajo skozi kožo, saj je penetracija skozi kožo zaradi njene raznolike strukture in barierne funkcije vprašljiva. Cilj diplomske naloge je bil ovrednotiti prehod spojin iz eteričnih olj skozi kožno bariero. Ključnega pomena je bila optimizacija nekaterih postopkov pri in vitro poskusu s Franzovimi difuzijskimi celicami, s pomočjo katerega smo posnemali prehod preiskovanih spojin skozi kožo in pri pripravi vzorcev za analizo s plinskim kromatografom (GC-FID). V raziskavi smo uporabili sistem Franzovih difuzijskih celic, pri katerem smo potrebovali zamrznjeno kožo prašičjega uhlja, ki je služila kot človeški koži najbolj podobna membrana za zagotavljanje barierne funkcije kože, Miglyol 812 kot topilo za spojine iz eteričnih olj in izotonični fosfatni pufer z dodatki različnih površinsko aktivnih snovi, ki so omogočale prehod iz lipofilne donorske raztopine v hidrofilni akceptorski medij. Vzorce smo v roku 24 ur vzorčili v enajstih časovnih točkah in smo jih po koncu poskusa s pomočjo ekstrakcije v medij za analizo z GC in koncentriranjem vzorcev v vakuumu pripravili za analizo s plinskim kromatografom. Ugotovili smo, katere površinsko aktivne snovi in v kakšnih koncentracijah delujejo najbolj optimalno kot dodatek k fosfatnemu pufru, da spojine iz eteričnih olj prehajajo kožno bariero in se raztapljajo v akceptorskem mediju. Po analizi z GC-FID smo ugotovili, da so koncentracije v vzorcih izjemno nizke, zato bi bilo v prihodnosti potrebno razviti postopke priprave vzorcev, povišati koncentracijo preiskovanih spojin v donorskem delu in izbrati občutljivejše metode analize. Essential oils and their components are often used in cosmetic products. They have different functions in cosmetic products as they are added for their antiseptical and antioxidant effects as well as perfumes. Although they often have soothing effect on skin some of the essential oil components can be irritating on skin. This is why we were interested in evaluating permeability of lipophilic components from essential oils through skin because of it's diverse structure which presents natural physical barrier for human body. Our goal was to evaluate permeability of essential oil components through skin barrier. The key task of our work was to optimize some of the procedures in in vitro testing with Franz diffusion cells. With this experiment we imitated transition of essential oil components through skin substitute and we optimized some of the procedures for preparing samples from experiment to be suitable for further analysis with Gas chromatography. During our work we used system of Franz diffusion cells which required frozen porcine ear skin as it was the most suitable and similar substitute for human skin. We also used Miglyol 812 as solvent for essential oil components and isotonic phosphate-buffered saline with addition of different surfactants which enabled transition of lipophilic components from donor solution to hydrophilic acceptor medium. We took 11 paralel samples at 11 different time points during experiment that lasted for 24 hours. Then we extracted samples in GC analysis medium and concetrated samples in vacuum for GC analysis. We determined which surfactants and what concentrations of them are the most optimal for use as addition to phosphate-buffered saline to enable essential oil components penetrate skin barrier and dissolve in acceptor medium. After GC-FID analysis we realized that concentrations in samples were too low, which brings us to optimizing procedures in sample preparation in the future, increase concetration of essential oil components in donor solution or use more sensitive methods of analysis.

The present study aimed to develop a cryotherapy gel based on ginger, menthol and caffeine, as well as to analyze the parameters of physical-chemical and microbiological quality control of the phytocosmetic formulation. The raw materials were purchased in local stores in the municipality of Teresina, Piauí. The ginger extract was obtained by macerating the rhizomes and rotating with acetone solvent. For the cosmetic formulation, carbopol gel was first prepared, followed by alkalinization, solubilization in caffeine and menthol and addition of ginger extract and dye, following the Good Practices of Handling the Resolution of the Collegiate Board (RDC) No. 67 / 2007. Subsequently, the physical-chemical quality control tests inherent to the preliminary stability were applied, encompassing organoleptic characteristics, pH, electrical conductivity, spreadability, resistance to centrifugation, optical microscopy, in addition to microbiological evaluation, identifying the presence of mesophilic bacteria, filamentous fungi and yeasts. The results of the organoleptic characteristics indicated a gel with a bright red color, homogeneous appearance and a characteristic menthol odor. The pH ranged from 5.46 to 5.59 and the electrical conductivity from 1900 to 2250 µs / cm, both being considered adequate. Regarding the spreadability, it was found that there was an increase in the proportion that the weight (g) was added, showing a good ability to spread and cover the site of action, both before and after preliminary stability. In the centrifugation resistance test, the gel formulation remained stable, both before and after 12 days. Regarding the microscopic analysis of the droplets, it was observed that most of them (65%) had a diameter in the range of 0.6 µm to 1 µm, showing small blood cells heterogeneously distributed and with some coalescence points. As for the microbiological analyzes of the cryotherapy gel, it was observed that the values for counting microrganisms were within the limits recommended by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia, both for aerobic mesophiles (1UFC / g) and for filamentous fungi and yeasts (0 CFU/g). Thus, it was possible to develop a phytocosmetic suitable for use, with pleasant organoleptic characteristics and physical-chemical and microbiological standards within the required prerequisites. However, it is necessary to carry out new tests of product stability during the entire storage, in order to confirm the preliminary results, in addition to tests that ratify its biological activity, as well as in vitro and in vivo toxicological tests that effectively guarantee product safety. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo desarrollar un gel de crioterapia a base de jengibre, mentol y cafeína, así como analizar los parámetros de control de calidad físico-químico y microbiológico de la formulación fitocosmética. Las materias primas se compraron en tiendas locales en el municipio de Teresina, Piauí. El extracto de jengibre se obtuvo macerando los rizomas y girando con disolvente de acetona. Para la formulación cosmética, primero se preparó gel de carbopol, seguido de alcalinización, solubilización en cafeína y mentol y adición de extracto de jengibre y colorante, siguiendo las Buenas Prácticas de Manejo de la Resolución de la Junta Colegiada (RDC) No. 67 / 2007. Posteriormente, se aplicaron las pruebas de control de calidad físico-químico inherentes a la estabilidad preliminar, que abarca características organolépticas, pH, conductividad eléctrica, capacidad de propagación, resistencia a la centrifugación, microscopía óptica, además de evaluación microbiológica, identificando la presencia de bacterias mesofílicas, hongos filamentosos y levaduras. Los resultados de las características organolépticas indicaron un gel con un color rojo brillante, apariencia homogénea y un olor característico a mentol. El pH varió de 5,46 a 5,59 y la conductividad eléctrica de 1900 a 2250 µs / cm, ambos considerados adecuados. Con respecto a la capacidad de propagación, se encontró que hubo un aumento en la proporción en que se agregó el peso (g), mostrando una buena capacidad para extenderse y cubrir el sitio de acción, tanto antes como después de la estabilidad preliminar. En la prueba de resistencia a la centrifugación, la formulación de gel permaneció estable, tanto antes como después de 12 días. Con respecto al análisis microscópico de las gotitas, se observó que la mayoría de ellas (65%) tenían un diámetro en el rango de 0.6 µm a 1 µm, mostrando pequeñas células sanguíneas distribuidas de manera heterogénea y con algunos puntos de coalescencia. En cuanto a los análisis microbiológicos del gel de crioterapia, se observó que los valores para contar microrganismos se encontraban dentro de los límites recomendados por la Farmacopea Brasileña, tanto para mesófilos aeróbicos (1 UFC / g) como para hongos filamentosos y levaduras (0 UFC / g) Por lo tanto, fue posible desarrollar un fitocosmético adecuado para su uso, con características organolépticas agradables y estándares físico-químicos y microbiológicos dentro de los requisitos previos requeridos. Sin embargo, es necesario llevar a cabo nuevas pruebas de estabilidad del producto durante todo el almacenamiento, para confirmar los resultados preliminares, además de las pruebas que ratifican su actividad biológica, así como las pruebas toxicológicas in vitro e in vivo que garantizan efectivamente la seguridad del producto. O presente estudo teve como objetivo desenvolver um gel crioterápico à base de gengibre, mentol e cafeína, bem como analisar os parâmetros de controle de qualidade físico-químico e microbiológico da formulação fitocosmética. As matérias-primas foram adquiridas em comércio local do município de Teresina, Piauí. O extrato do gengibre foi obtido por maceração dos rizomas e rotaevaporação, com solvente acetona. Para a formulação do cosmético, primeiramente, preparou-se o gel de carbopol, seguido de alcalinização, solubilização em cafeína e mentol e adição do extrato de gengibre e do corante, seguindo as Boas Práticas de Manipulação da Resolução da Diretoria Colegiada (RDC) Nº 67/2007. Posteriormente, foram aplicados os testes de controle de qualidade físico-química inerentes à estabilidade preliminar, englobando características organolépticas, pH, condutividade elétrica, espalhabilidade, resistência à centrifugação, microscopia óptica, além de avaliação microbiológica, identificando a presença de bactérias mesófilas, fungos filamentosos e leveduras. Os resultados das características organolépticas apontaram para um gel com cor vermelho brilhante, aspecto homogêneo e odor característico de mentol. O pH variou de 5,46 a 5,59 e a condutividade elétrica de 1900 a 2250 µs/cm, sendo ambos considerados adequados. Com relação à espalhabilidade, constatou-se que houve uma elevação à proporção que o peso (g) foi acrescido, evidenciando-se uma boa capacidade de se espalhar e abranger o local de ação, tanto antes quanto após a estabilidade preliminar. No teste de resistência à centrifugação, a formulação-gel permaneceu estável, tanto antes quanto depois de 12 dias. No tocante à análise microscópica das gotículas, observou-se que a maioria delas (65%) apresentava um diâmetro situado no intervalo de 0,6 µm a 1 µm, evidenciando glóbulos pequenos heterogeneamente distribuídos e com alguns pontos de coalescência. Já quanto às análises microbiológicas do gel crioterápico, observou-se que os valores para contagem de microrganismos encontravam-se dentro dos limites preconizados pela Farmacopeia Brasileira, tanto para os mesófilos aeróbios (1 UFC/g) quanto para fungos filamentosos e leveduras (0 UFC/g). Dessa forma, foi possível desenvolver um fitocosmético adequado ao uso, com características organolépticas agradáveis e padrões físico-químicos e microbiológicos dentro dos pré-requisitos exigidos. Todavia, faz-se necessária a realização de novos testes de estabilidade do produto durante todo o armazenamento, a fim de confirmar os resultados preliminares, além de testes que ratifiquem sua atividade biológica, bem como ensaios toxicológicos in vitro e in vivo que garantam efetivamente a segurança do produto.

Latar Belakang: Dermatitis atopik (DA) adalah penyakit kompleks dengan gejala klinis berspektrum luas. Penyakit ini ditandai dengan gejala gatal yang dominan sampai dapat mengganggu kualitas tidur, dan dapat menyebabkan infeksi sekunder. Patogenesis DA meliputi gangguan sawar kulit, faktor lingkungan, agen infeksius, dan abnormalitas sistem imun. Gangguan sawar kulit menjadi faktor utama yang harus diperbaiki salah satunya dengan pemberian pelembap seawal mungkin. Tujuan: Membandingkan efikasi pelembap yang mengandung seramid, mentol, dan polidokanol dengan jeli petrolatum pada pasien DA derajat ringan. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental analitik dengan menggunakan metode uji klinis acak terkontrol tersamar tunggal, membandingkan terapi pelembap yang mengandung seramid, polidokanol, dan mentol dengan pelembap jeli petrolatum pada pasien DA anak dan dewasa dengan derajat keparahan ringan yang dinilai melalui indeks scoring of atopic dermatitis (SCORAD). Hasil: Penghitungan nilai SCORAD sebelum dan sesudah intervensi pada kelompok perlakuan atau kontrol memiliki perbedaan yang tidak signifikan dengan nilai p>0,05. Simpulan: Pemberian kedua jenis pelembap dapat menurunkan derajat keparahan SCORAD pada pasien DA.

O aumento da temperatura corporal é um dos principais fatores que contribui para a fadiga e diminuição da performance em provas desportivas. Por esse motivo, têm vindo a ser investigados métodos de arrefecimento corporal que visam contrariar a elevação da temperatura e potenciar a performance. Neste contexto, tem vindo a acumular-se evidência de que a ingestão de mentol pode potenciar o rendimento desportivo através de vários mecanismos não-térmicos. Entre estes, destaca-se a capacidade de ativar recetores de frio, reduzindo a perceção de calor aquando da prática de exercício intenso. Outros possíveis mecanismos incluem um aumento do volume de ar expirado, diminuição da perceção de esforço cardiopulmonar, efeitos analgésicos e efeitos estimulantes ao nível do Sistema Nervoso Central. No geral, a aplicação oral de mentol parece melhorar a performance no exercício de endurance realizado em ambiente quente e húmido, principalmente na parte final das provas. O mentol aparenta ser um composto seguro nas concentrações habitualmente usadas nos estudos em que se verificou potenciar a performance. No entanto, ao permitir prolongar o exercício para além dos limites térmicos normais, a suplementação com mentol poderá interferir no surgimento de respostas fisiológicas de proteção contra a elevação da temperatura corporal. Entretanto, é necessário testar os efeitos de concentrações maiores de mentol na performance e confirmar a sua segurança em atletas. Increased body temperature is one of the major factors contributing to fatigue and decreased performance in sporting events. In consequence, body cooling methods have been investigated to counteract the rise in temperature and enhance performance. In this context, evidence has been accumulating that menthol intake may enhance sports performance through various non-thermal mechanisms, notably through its ability to activate cold receptors and reduce heat perception during intense exercise. Other possible mechanisms include increased expired air volume, decreased perception of cardiopulmonary effort, analgesic and CNS stimulating effects. In general, oral menthol administration seems to improve endurance exercise performance in hot and humid environments, mostly at the end of a competitive event. Menthol appears to be safe at the concentrations commonly used in studies that observed ergogenic effects with this compound. However, by allowing exercise to be prolonged beyond normal thermal limits, menthol supplementation may interfere with the arise of physiological protective responses against rising body temperature. Meanwhile, it is necessary to test the effects of higher menthol concentrations on performance and confirm its safety in athletes.

Uma alta temperatura ambiente possui efeito deletério sobre o desempenho atlético, principalmente na realização de exercícios prolongados. Várias estratégias têm sido estudadas no intuito de atenuar o declínio no desempenho, entre eles a utilização do mentol. Contudo, as evidências sobre os efeitos do mentol sobre o desempenho em diferentes temperaturas ainda são escassas. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos do enxágue bucal de mentol sobre o desempenho e aspectos psicofisiológicos durante um teste contrarrelógio de 10 km em diferentes faixas de temperatura. Neste sentido, oito homens saudáveis (34 ± 4 anos; 173,0 ± 0,05 cm; 72,0 ± 7,5 kg; VO2max 64,5 ± 5,5 ml/kg/min percentual de gordura corporal 12,0 ± 4,1%) realizaram um ensaio de familiarização e sete ensaios experimentais, três na temperatura de 22°C (CON, PLA, MEN), dois na temperatura 28°C (PLA, MEN) e dois na temperatura de 34°C (PLA, MEN). A temperatura e o tipo de tratamento (PLA, MEN, CON) foram escolhidos randomicamente. Todas as medidas psicofisiológicas (sensação térmica, conforto térmico, percepção subjetiva de esforço e resposta afetiva) foram obtidas a cada km completado. Não foi encontrada diferença significativa no tempo final de teste entre os tratamentos CON (42,4 ± 1,53 min), PLA (43,3 ± 0,9 min), MEN (42,7 ± 2,4 min) na temperatura de 22°C. Nas temperaturas de 28°C e 34°C, também não foi observada diferença estatística no tempo final de prova, apesar da média final de corrida ter sido 54s (28°C) e 36s (34°C) menor na utilização do MEN. Todas as medidas psicofisiológicas se alteraram em relação ao tempo de corrida, porém o MEN não foi capaz de modular nenhuma dessas medidas. O estudo não demonstra melhora de desempenho atribuído à aplicação do enxágue bucal de mentol durante um teste contrarrelógio de 10 km em esteira rolante nas diferentes temperaturas testadas. Desse modo, permanece incerto se alterações nos processos psicofisiológicos são capazes de aumentar o desempenho em ambientes quentes. High ambient temperature has a deleterious effect on athletic performance, especially in the endurance exercises. Several strategies have been studied in order to mitigate the decline in performance, among them the use of menthol. However, evidence on the effects of menthol on performance at different temperatures is still scanty. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of menthol mouthwash on performance and psychophysiological aspects during a time trial test of 10 km in different temperature ranges. In this sense, eight healthy men (34 ± 4 years; 173.0 ± 0.05 cm; 72.0 ± 7.5 kg; VO2max = 64.5 ± 5.5 ml / kg / min and body fat percentage = 12.0 ± 4.1%), performed a familiarization test and seven experimental tests, three at a temperature of 22 ° C (CON, PLA, MEN), two at 28 ° C (PLA, MEN) and two at 34 ° C (PLA, MEN). O mentol é um composto natural, encontrado no óleo essencial de folhas de plantas Mentha, que possui propriedades bactericida, fungicida, analgésica e anestésica descritas na literatura. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o potencial efeito cicatrizante do creme à base de mentol em feridas cutâneas de ratos hiperglicêmicos e seus mecanismos de ação. A hiperglicemia foi induzida em ratos Wistar machos (n=10) através de dose única de estreptozotocina (50 mg/kg, i.p.). Após confirmação do estado diabético (≥ 250 mg glicose/dL), os ratos foram divididos em três grupos: veículo, creme de insulina (0.5 U/g), creme à base de mentol (0.5%). Os animais foram anestesiados com quetamina (80 mg/kg, i.p.) e xilazina (40 mg/kg, i.p.) e a ferida cutânea foi confeccionada no dorso dos animais com um punch de 2 cm de diâmetro. A área da ferida foi medida, fotografada e tratada com cremes uma vez ao dia durante 14 dias. No final do período, os ratos foram eutanasiados, a área da ferida foi destinada a ensaios de atividade anti-inflamatória e antioxidante e expressão quantitativa de mRNA. Os níveis de NO foram dosados no plasma sanguíneo. Após 14 dias de tratamento, o grupo tratado com mentol apresentou redução na área da ferida (94%) em comparação com o grupo veículo (88%). Além disso, o grupo tratado com mentol apresentou níveis reduzidos de TNF-α e IL-6, diminuiu a atividade de MPO e a expressão de Nfκb e aumentou os níveis e a expressão de IL-10 e Ki67, além de maior atividade das enzimas antioxidantes SOD, GPx e GR e aumento nos níveis de GSH e NO. Em conjunto, esses resultados evidenciam que o creme à base de mentol acelerou o processo de cicatrização de feridas cutâneas em ratos hiperglicêmicos através das atividades anti-inflamatória e antioxidante e aumento da proliferação celular.
