In the process of establishing a society based on the fundamental principles of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad received allegiance (bay'ah) from his followers on several occasions. Throughout this process, the concept of bay'ah evolved to signify both religious and political recognition of the Prophet's authority, as well as a solemn a pledge of absolute obedience. Through these acts of allegiance, the Prophet established a new social and political paradigm centered on monotheism (taw- hid), prophethood (nubuwwah), and belief in the afterlife (akhirah), in contrast to the pre-Islamic (jahiliyyah) understanding which was rooted in polytheism and tribal prejudice (asabiyyah). The early principles of this new civilization grounded in these doctrinal foundations, manifested themselves in the terms of allegiance that the Prophet received, both individually and collectively. In this regard, analyzing the role of these early allegiances in forming Islam's initial social structure as well as establishing the fundamental principles of Islamic civilization- occurring when a significant portion of the Qur'anic verses had not yet been revealed- provides critical insight into the historical development of these principles. The components of these allegiances included not only the fundamental beliefs such as faith in Allah, His Prophet, and the afterlife but also moral and social principles that would become the core tenets of Islamic civilization. In this context, the institution of bay'ah during the Prophet's era served a dual purpose: it both established a new value system centered on tawhid, nubuwwah, and akhirah, and provided the legal foundation ensuring society's adherence to this value system. Individuals accepting Islam pledged their loyalty to the Prophet, committing to abstain from theft, adultery, and infanticide, to speak the truth and uphold justice under all circumstances; and to offering sincere counsel to fellow Muslims. Thus, the process of bay'ah not only the main principles that would ensure the peace, stability, and security of the emerging society but also laid the foundation for the societal principles of Islamic civilization. The Arabic language, with its rich history and vast literary heritage, is a complex and nuanced tongue. Grasping the depths of this language requires not only an understanding of its grammatical rules but also an immersion into Arab culture and civilization. Indeed, the revelation of the Holy Quran in Arabic has elevated this language to the cornerstone of Islamic faith and civilization. This has established Arabic as an indispensable tool and source for all Quran-based disciplines, including tafsir (Quranic exegesis), fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), hadith (prophetic traditions), kalam (Islamic theology), and mantiq (Islamic logic). Fully comprehending Arabic's role as a tool and source is paramount to accurately and comprehensively understanding Islam and its civilization. This study delves into the functions and meanings of Arabic words, revealing the intricate nuances of its grammatical rules. Focusing on two significant grammatical patterns, "If'âl" and "Tef'îl," the research meticulously examines their functions and applications in the Arabic language. Utilizing qualitative data collection and analysis techniques, examples from Arabic texts and grammatical resources will be analyzed. The study's findings are anticipated to contribute to a deeper understanding of Arabic word functions and meanings, shedding light on the intricacies of Arabic grammar. Additionally, it is hoped that this research will foster a better understanding of Arabic language and culture, promoting communication and understanding between diverse cultures. There has been significant critical literature on the concept of civilization as intertwined with the concepts of progress and evolution since the 19th century. However, the early work of anthropology does not seem to have received enough attention in the debate on the concept of civilization. The approach of Franz Boas, an important and influential anthropologist who wrote extensively on primitivism, culture and evolution, is noteworthy in this context. This article aims to contribute to the debates around the concept of civilization and to the Turkish literature on Franz Boas by examining how he criticizes the evolutionist-progressivist paradigm. Boas, who thought that the concept of civilization was not identical to the West, rejected the concept of race based on the idea of biological determination and emphasized the relative influence of cultural elements. Thus, against the idea of unidirectional and uniform evolution, he argued that each culture should be explained from within itself. Bu makalenin amacı çağdaş dünyanın ekonomik, politik ve diplomatik sorunlarının başında gelen İslam Uygarlığı ile Batı Uygarlığı arasındaki düşünsel, zihinsel ve ideolojik gerilimli ilişkileri bu iki medeniyet ekseninde analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu ilişki sadece gerilim yönü ile değil diyalog ve tolerans alanları bakımından analiz edilecektir. Bu analizde kullanılacak yöntem hem tarihsel hem de metodolojik olarak iki uygarlık arasındaki gerilimli ilişkileri düşünce, zihniyet insan bağlamında iki farklı ideal tip olan Homo Economicus ve Homo İslamicus üzerinden karşılaştırmalı bir yöntemle analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu analizde şu sorulara cevap verilmeye çalışılacaktır. Uygarlıklar arasındaki ilişki “insan”dan bağımsız ya da onun üstündeki ideolojik politik kurumlardan kaynaklanan bir gerilim midir? İnsan ve onun hakları siyasal ve ideolojik sınırları aşıp bir diyalog ve uzlaşma zeminini oluşturacak bir yetkinliğe ulaşabildi mi? Bu diyalog ve tolerans zeminleriyle ilgili geliştirilen projeler hegemonik bir tasarım mıdır? Toplumsal ve kültürel birikimlerin biçimlendirdiği “kimlik” ve “kişilik” gibi tanımlamalar hegemonik ilişkilerden mi kaynaklanmaktadır? Bugünki çağdaş İslam toplumlarında neden politik alandan bağımsız özgün ya da entegrist olmayan düşünce geleneği oluşamamaktadır. Bu makelenin diğer bir temel varsayımı çağdaş İslam dünyasında egemen olan düşüncenin salt felsefi “düşünce’ değil siyasal düşünce ve pratiklerinin hem düşünce alanını hemde dinsel alanı baştan başa etkisi altına aldığı varsayımıdır. İslam toplumlarında siyasal düşüncenin ister modern biçimi olsun ister gelenekçi biçimi olsun kendi özgün uygarlık tahayyülünü insan-Tanrı insan-evren insan-insan insan-toplum ilişkileri üzerinden yeniden tanımlaması varsayımıdır.

İnsanlık tarihinin bilgisi, gerçeklik arayışındaki teorisyenleri her zaman yakından ilgilendirmiştir. Toplumbilimciler, içinde bulundukları zaman diliminde dikkat çeken olgu ve olayları anlamak ve açıklamak adına farklı tarihsel yaklaşımlara başvurmuşlardır. Tarihsel sürece eklemlenen ‘din’ ve ‘kültür’ ile tüm bunları kapsayan ‘medeniyet’ kavramları da sosyal bilimlerin önemli gördüğü konuların başında gelmektedir. Toplumsal gerçekliğin nasıl var olduğu, ne şekilde değişme veya gelişme göstereceği sorularından hareketle gerçekleştirilen düşünsel ve sosyolojik analizler, on sekizinci ve on dokuzuncu yüzyıllar itibariyle yoğunlaşmıştır. Toplumsal gerçekliği anlamlandırmada birbirine zıt olan iki farklı tarih yaklaşımından söz edilebilir. Bunlardan biri, insanlık tarihini bir bütün olarak düz bir çizgideymişçesine planlı bir biçimde hep daha iyiye, mükemmele doğru ilerlediğini savunan ‘ilerlemeci tarih yaklaşımı’dır. Bunun aksini söyleyen ‘döngüsel tarih yaklaşımı’ ise insanlık tarihinin; tek bir bütünden ibaret olmayıp farklı medeniyetlerle var olduğunu, bu medeniyetlerin bir organizma gibi doğup geliştikten sonra zayıflayarak yıkılabileceğini, dolayısıyla döngüsel tekrarlardan oluştuğunu savunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada da her iki yaklaşım, Kant, Hegel, İbn Haldun, Vico gibi düşünürlerin görüşleri ışığında ayrı ayrı ele alınmıştır. Yirminci yüzyıl sonlarına rastlayan Soğuk Savaş sonrası dönem, bu iki tarihsel yaklaşım çerçevesinde analiz edilmiş; Fukuyama’nın ‘Tarihin Sonu’ tezi ile Huntington’un ‘Medeniyetler Çatışması’ tezi karşılaştırılarak bu çalışmanın esas sorunu çözümlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu makale, araştırma ve yayın etiği kurallarına uygun olacak şekilde hazırlanmıştır.

Batı dünyası üzerinde tesir ettiği düşünülen İbn Tufeyl’in Hay bin Yakzan isimli eseri, özellikle Danıel Defoe’nin Robinson Crusoe adlı yapıtı üzerinde ilham kaynağı olduğu çeşitli araştırmacılar tarafından ifade edilmiştir. Hay bin Yakzan karakterinin bir adada yalnız başına deneyimlediği seyr ü sulûk yolculuğu ve yaşadığı gemi kazası sonucu yaklaşık otuz yılını adada geçirmek zorunda kalan Robinson Crusoe’nin hikayelerinin anlatıldığı her iki edebi metin, ihtiva ettiği anlamlar açısından içinde bulundukları medeniyetin izlerini beraberinde taşımışlardır. Her iki metinde kendi türleri içinde kurucu metin olma niteliklerini taşımış olup, buna göre Hay b. Yakzan, Salaman ve Absal metinlerinin; Robinson Crusoe ise “Robinsonad” türünün oluşumuna etki etmiştir. Çalışmada, ilk olarak Hay bin Yakzan ve Robinson Crusoe eserlerinin içinde bulundukları kültürdeki konumları değerlendirilmiş ve hikâyelerin ana hatları hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Akabindeki bölümde ise her iki eserdeki ortak unsurlar tespit edilip, bu ortak unsurların birbirlerinden ayrışan yönleri incelenmiştir.

Müslümanlar Kur’ân’ın ilk emri olan okumayı sadece yüzeysel bir okuma değil varlığın özüne inmek ve dünyayı anlamak olarak değerlendirmişlerdir. Bu doğrultuda ilk zamanlardan itibaren etraflarında gelişen tüm olayları ibret nazarıyla incelemişler ve ilmî çalışmalarına konu etmişlerdir. İlim öğrenmenin kadın veya erkek fark etmeksizin tüm Müslümanlar için gerekli görülmesi de onlar için önemli bir motivasyon kaynağı olmuştur. Hızlı ve emin adımlarla yükselen İslam medeniyetinin öne çıkan yönlerinden birisi Müslümanların dini ilimlere gösterdikleri ilgidir. Sadece dini ilimlerle sınırlı kalmayan Müslümanlar sonraki dönemlerde astronomi, matematik, geometri, fizik ve kimya gibi pozitif bilimlere de ilgi göstermişlerdir. Müslümanların bu alana gösterdiği ilginin farklı sebeplerinden birisi Kur'an'da gök cisimleri ve yaratılış gibi hususların yer almasıdır. Ayrıca rutin ibadetlerin vakitlerinin tayininde ay, güneş vb. gök cisimlerinin hareketlerinin esas alınması gibi hususlar Müslümanlarda büyük ilgi ve merak uyandırmıştır. Diğer taraftan fetihlerle birlikte çok geniş bir coğrafyaya yayılan Müslümanlar buralarda farklı etnik, dini ve kültürel unsurlarla karşılaşmışlardır. Kendileri için önemli bir aşama teşkil eden ve bu unsurların sağlayacağı muhtemel faydaları görmezden gelmeyen Müslümanlar, insanlık mirası olarak değerlendirdikleri bilimsel çalışmaları kendi dillerine tercüme etmeye başlamışlardır. Bu faaliyetlerin devlet yetkilileri tarafından da desteklenmesi ile birlikte çalışmaların daha da arttığı görülmektedir. Çalışmamızın temel amaçlarından biri İslam dünyasının fetihlerle birlikte siyasî ve askerî gelişmelerden sonra ilmî çalışmalarda elde ettiği başarısının sebeplerine dair bir değerlendirme yapmaktır. İslam toplumu ilk dönemlerden itibaren öncelikle dini konuların öğrenilmesine ağırlık vermiş, sonrasında ise karşılaştığı diğer medeniyetlerden de etkilenerek pozitif bilimlerle meşgul olmaya başlamıştır. Bu alanlarla ilgili genellikle herhangi bir sınırlamaya bağlı kalmamışlardır. İslâm’ın ilk yıllarında pozitif bilimlere hasredilmiş çalışmalar olmadığı görülse de ilk hicrî yüzyılın sonlarına doğru bu anlamda önemli çalışmalar ortaya çıkmıştır. Müslümanlar öncelikle dinlerini daha iyi anlamaya çalışmışlar, bu konuda belli bir birikim elde ettikten sonra özellikle Abbâsîler (750-1258) döneminde pozitif bilimlere ilgi duymuşlar ve 4/10. yüzyıla gelindiğinde bu alanlarda büyük eserler vermeye başlamışlardır. Çalışmamızda öncelikle Müslümanların yaptığı çalışmalara ilişkin güncel ve klasik kaynaklarda yer alan bilgiler bir araya getirilerek yüzyıllar içerisinde yaşanan değişim ele alınacaktır. Esasında bugün Müslümanların içerisinde bulunduğu durumun çözümü de kısmen bu dönemin daha iyi anlaşılmasında gizlidir. Tarihleri boyunca Müslümanların yaşadıkları bu yükseliş serüvenini anlamak günümüze de önemli ölçüde ışık tutacaktır.

Suriye, Filistin ve Mısır coğrafyasında sürüp giden Haçlı seferleri, özellikle 1291’den sonra Anadolu coğrafyasının yeni efendisi Osmanlılar ile farklı safhalarla devam etmiştir. Bu süreç içerisinde, Doğu ile Batı arasında bir taraftan düşmanlıklar üretilip savaşlar yapılırken, diğer taraftan da halı gibi değerli ürünler kanalıyla Avrupa’ya bir kültür ve medeniyet transferi gerçekleştirilmeye başlamıştır. Suriye’deki Haçlı lordlarının evlerini ve farklı mekânlarını süsleyen halılar, onlara aynı zamanda Doğu’da neler elde ettiklerinin de cevaplarından birisini vermiştir. Halı, Sûr’da yapılan bir Haçlı düğününden, Beyrut’taki Haçlı senyörünün sarayına kadar pek çok olaya ayna tutmuş ve seferlerin gerçek nedenlerinin anlaşılmasına katkı sağlamıştır. Bizans’ın özellikle Antakya Haçlıları ve Anadolu’daki Türklerle olan ilişkilerinde de halı üzerinden yaşanan bazı olaylar, seferlerin farklı bir çehresini ortaya koymuştur. Daha sonra Osmanlıların Bizans tekfurları ve imparatorları ile olan ilişkilerinde halının söz konusu edildiği detaylar, bir devletin nasıl kurulup yükseldiğini de gözler önüne sermiştir. Öte yandan Venedikliler ve Portekizlilerle ittifak arayışına giren İran’daki Safevîlerin halı üzerinden yürüttükleri iktisadî savaşlar ise seferlere yeni bir boyut kazandırmış, Haçlı seferlerinin hangi cephelere yayıldığını farklı bir cepheden ortaya koymuştur.

Bu çalışma Sezai Karakoç’un Yitik Cennet adlı eserinden hareketle ortaya koymaya çalıştığı medeniyet tasavvurunu imkân ve sınırları ile soruşturmayı amaçlamaktadır. Karakoç, kriz içerisinde olduğunu düşündüğü medeniyetin yeniden inşa ve idamesini İslam/hakikat ile hayat arasında aydınların sorumluluğunda kurulacak yeni bir irtibatın tesisinde arar. Ona göre, ruhi, sosyal, politik, ekonomik, kültürel, estetik yönleriyle somut İslam ülküsünü yeniden hayata geçirecek olan aydınlar hayata, realiteye ve tarih şuuruna yabancılaşmayacaklardır. Bu anlamda İslam medeniyetinin durumlanışını ya da tavrını üç ana eksene oturtur: Birincisi, teorik temeli belirleyen metafizik perspektif; ikincisi, bu perspektife bağlı bir realizm olarak dünya ve doğa görüşü; üçüncüsü ise ilahi olana teslimiyet. Karakoç’un bu tezinin tecessüm edeceği habitat, devlettir. Devlet her şeyden önce bir ülkü bir ideal ve erdem devletidir. Karakoç bu ideal devletin siyasal formasyonunu Aristoteles ve Farabi’de olduğu gibi belirli erdemlere dayalı site devleti şeklinde düşünür. Karakoç’un teklifi insanın metafiziksel amaçlarına ulaşmayı içeren ahlaki sağduyuya bağlı bir yaşam tarzı ile etiketlenir. Böylece akıl ile duyarlılık arasında denge kurulacak; bu uyum ile inanca ve ahlaka da yer açılarak yeniden doğuşun imkânı bulunabilecektir. Kaynağı ve işlevi bakımından çağdaş medeniyet teorilerinden farklılık gösteren bu medeniyetin yol haritası Kur’an-ı Kerim kıssaları ile oluşturulurken kurucuları da peygamberlerdir. İnsanlık için üretilen yeni bir örgütlenme modeli olan diriliş, herhangi bir görüşün antitezi ya da sentezi olmayıp, hiçleşmeye giden yönelimi yeniden varoluşa devşiren üçüncü bir yoldur. Söz konusu bu yol üç perspektifli bir yönelim üzerine kurulur: Birincisi, insanın Allah’a bakışı; ikincisi, insanın kendine bakışı; üçüncüsü, insanın eşyaya bakışı. Karakoç’a göre diriliş eri bu üçlü kombinasyon içerisinde daha önce kuramadığı uyum ve dengeyi diriliş ruhu çerçevesinde kurabilme imkanına kavuşur. Diriliş medeniyetinin referans değeri ise sevgidir. Karakoç’un düşüncesinde tıpkı Yunus Emre ve Mevlana’da olduğu gibi şeytanı yenen metafizik güç olan sevgi temel değerdir. Karakoç’un Varlık görüşünün sonucu olarak okunabilecek bu varoluş yolu özne (diriliş eri) için kendi oluş yolculuğunda varlığı/nı kat ederken yönünü öncelikle özüne çevirerek ideal olanın kavram yerine mefhum ile karşılanmasını gösteren bir “olma” durumuna gönderme yapar. Sezai Karakoç is a poet-thinker who had a significant influence on modern Turkish literature, thought and poetry, Thomas Stearns Eliot is one of the exceptional poet-thinkers of the period who had a wide repercussion in contemporary American-British poetry, and Abdullah et-Tayyib is one of the poet-thinkers that has a prominent and unique place in Sudanese and Arabic literature. In the works of these three great names, among the leading names of Turkish, English, and Sudanese literature, the relationship between civilisation and culture is manifested as a common perspective, despite some differences of opinion. In this study, we want to examine and evaluate how three important poet-thinkers reflect the concepts of civilisation and culture in their works in the context of comparative literature. Because the definitions and explanations of these three great names shed light on the relationship between culture and civilisation. In our study, according to Sezai Karakoç, civilisation includes culture; According to Thomas Stearns Eliot, these two concepts are inseparable and used intertwined; In Abdullah et-Tayyib, although these two concepts are used interchangeably from time to time, it is determined and explained that culture is reflected in his works as an element of civilisation. Umrân genellikle ikincil literatürde soyut kalan, neyi ifade ettiği tam anlamıyla belli olmayan, farklı yaklaşımlara göre değişkenlik arz eden bir kavramdır. Türkçe literatürde bu genellikle “medeniyet/uygarlık” ya da “toplum” olarak karşılanırken, İngilizce literatürde ise “civilisation” ile karşılanmıştır. Hadarî umrân ise bedevîliğin zıddı olan “yerleşiklik” anlamında kullanılırken, bazen de “uygar yaşam” olarak telakki edilmiştir. İbn Haldûn’un sıklıkla kullandığı bu mefhumlara yönelik yapılan alımlama, söz konusu kavramların derinliğinin sınırlandırılmasına neden olmaktadır. Dolayısıyla bunun önüne geçebilmek amacıyla kavramın bağlam içerisindeki yerine odaklanılarak, mefhumun maddi gelişmelerden uzak, “toplumsal ortam” anlamında kullanıldığı öne çıkarılacaktır. Bu çalışmada öncelikle umrânın genel olarak karşılandığı medeniyet/uygarlık ifadesinin tarihsel süreç içerisindeki serüveni mercek altına alınacak ve daha sonrasında bağlam dahilinde İbn Haldûn’un nasıl bir umrân anlayışı geliştirdiği hususunda farklı bir perspektif geliştirilerek söz konusu kavramın din, devlet, toplum, tarih, akıl ve ilim gibi pek çok hususla olan bağıntısı tartışılacaktır. Bu amaçla Türkçe ve İngilizce literatürde umrân kavramının nasıl alımlandığı, Batı’nın geliştirdiği medeniyet mefhumunun bu kavramı nasıl tahdit ettiği doğrultusunda hem söz konusu literatür hem de İbn Haldûn’un konuya olan yaklaşımları esas alınacaktır.

Ebû Hanîfe (öl. 150/767), Müslüman düşünce tarihinin en önemli bânilerindendir. Çünkü o, tüm renk ve tonlarıyla akılcı düşünce biçiminin şemsiye ismi olan “Ehl-i re’y” geleneğinin tartışmasız reisi olarak kabul görmüştür. Bu kabulün kökenlerini, onun yaşadığı zaman diliminde aramak gerekir. Bu zaman dilimi de Müslüman düşüncenin metodolojilerinin teşekkül etmeye başladığı tâbiîn asrıdır. Kaldı ki Ebû Hanîfe, tâbiîn neslinin önde gelen âlimlerindendir. Onu bu bağlamda ön plana çıkaran husus ise ortaya koyduğu hedeftir. Bu hedefin, parçacı bir yaklaşımdan öte Müslüman toplumun kimliğinin inşası bakımından sistematik bir söylem oluşturma çabası olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Bu çaba, dönemin şartları açısından gerçekten anlamlıdır. Zira dünya medeniyet tarihine yeni bir aktör olarak katılan ve kadim medeniyetlerin neşvünemâ ettiği devasa bir coğrafyaya hâkim olan Müslümanların, kalıcı olmalarını sağlayacak tutarlı bir dünya görüşü kurma ihtiyacı vardı. Bunun farkında olan ve bakış açısını bu minvalde inşa eden Ebû Hanîfe’nin ilmî kişiliği, yüzyılların geçmesine rağmen lehte ve aleyhte her zaman dikkat çeken ve gündemde olan yapısını korumuştur. Bu itibarla onun bakışı açısı, günümüzün şartları da dikkate alınırsa ufuk açıcı bir mahiyet taşımaktadır. Bu yazıda Ebû Hanîfe’nin ön plana çıkmasına neden olan hususlar irdelenerek onun ortaya koyduğu sistematikten günümüzde nasıl yararlanabileceği noktasında birtakım değerlendirmeler yapılacaktır.

Bu çalışmada, Cumhuriyet döneminin önde gelen ilim adamlarından biri olan Hüseyin Atay’ın kelâm ilminin temel meseleleri bağlamındaki görüşleri çerçevesinde yeni bir medeniyet tasavvurunun imkânına dair görüşleri ele alınmıştır. Atay, Kur’an ve akıl merkezli bir metodoloji benimsemektedir. Bu yapısıyla onun söyleminin, Müslüman düşüncenin yenilenmesi ve yeni bir medeniyete ihtiyacın olduğu noktasına odaklandığını söylemek mümkündür. Atay, söylemini kelâm ilmi üzerine inşa etmiş ve eleştirel okumasını bu doğrultuda yapmıştır. Buradan hareketle o, sadece Müslüman âleminin değil bütün dünyanın, adaletin ve özgürlüğün tam anlamıyla tesis edilemediği bir realiteyle karşı karşıya olduğunu belirtmiştir. Bu nedenle Atay’a göre; yeni bir medeniyet söylemi üretilmelidir. Bunu üretecek dinamikler, Müslüman düşüncenin köklerinde bulunmaktadır. Ancak Müslümanlar, ortaya koydukları tecrübe itibariyle dinamik ve sürdürülebilir bir söylem oluşturamamıştır. Bu itibarla Müslüman düşünce eleştirel olarak yeniden okunmalıdır. Bu noktada dayanılması gereken kaynaklar akıl ve Kur’an’dır. Bu kaynakların hakikatine uygun bir şekilde aktif kılınması için de üzerine iliştirilen tortulardan temizlenmesi gerekir. Bu da ancak nesnel bir ilmi bakış açısıyla yapılabilir. Bu süreci de işletebilecek sistematik yapının inşası, kelâm ilminin eleştirel ve sistem kuran yapısına döndürülmesiyle mümkündür.

This article examines the use of “Islamic civilization” by Muslim thinkers, undoubtedly, one of the most controversial concept for contemporary Islamic Thought in Türkiye. The main argument of the article is that the Islamic civilization discourse has evolved from an eclectic/defensive perception of civilization to an otherizing/exclusionist position, and from an otherizing political style to ontological awareness, over three generations of Muslim intellectuals in Türkiye. This process of change can be observed in the writings of firstgeneration Muslim intellectuals such as Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Şehbenderzade Filibeli Ahmet Hilmi; secondgeneration such as Necip Fazıl Kısakürek, Nurettin Topçu, and especially Sezai Karakoç, and third-generation intellectuals such as İsmet Özel and Ali Bulaç. Ibn Khaldun’s life story is extraordinary. This extraordinariness is not only related to his duties, but also to the lessons he learned from the plague epidemic. For this reason, this study, which emerged as the product of long research, aims to comprehend the historical model put forward by him based on the effects of the 1348 Plague Epidemic in his life. The author of these lines has long sought answers to the question of why Ibn Khaldun despised settled societies. In the research process carried out in this context, the strong links that Gabriel Martinez-Gros and Allen James Fromherz established between the plague and Ibn Khaldun’s thoughts in the works cited in the bibliography were a source of inspiration. In this context, it was a necessity to start the article with Ibn Khaldun’s biography in order to better understand the main problematic. In addition, evaluating the important natural and political developments that we have recently experienced, especially Covid-19, from his perspective or trying to understand him from the perspective of these events also offers keys that exceed expectations for a historian. For the civilizations in the decaying process pointed out by Ibn Khaldun; Emphasizing the vital roles played by epidemics, wars, and enemy invasions, a few suggestions will be made on the similarities or differences of the 1348 Plague Outbreak with the Covid-19 process.
