Solid polymer electrolytes (SPE) obtained from polyesters are viable alternatives to polyethylene oxide‐based materials, especially for room‐temperature applications. In SPEs, the ion conduction is dependent on the polymer segmental mobility and is thus facilitated by low glass transition temperature (Tg). Here, the study synthesizes an ester‐funtionalized polysiloxane‐based polymer electrolyte with an exceptionally low Tg of −76 °C, resulting in a high ionic conductivity of 2.6 × 10−5 S cm−1 at room temperature and a lithium transference number of 0.72. However, the low Tg and consequently low mechanical stability require reinforcement to promote the formation of stable lithium‐electrolyte interfaces in lithium plating stripping experiments and stable battery cycling in lithium‐metal batteries (LMBs). For this, the SPE is incorporated into a network structure to yield a semi‐interpenetrating network electrolyte (SPE20‐SIPN) which results in significantly improved storage modulus by three orders of magnitude and ionic conductivity is maintained upon crosslinking. The SPE20‐SIPN exhibits stable cycling for up to 50 cycles with fluctuation (voltage noise) in some of the cells. A combination of crosslinking and nanoparticle addition (SPE20‐N10‐SIPN) overcomes the voltage noise and results in high coulombic efficiencies and high capacity retention above 80% for 200 cycles in solvent‐free, all‐solid‐state LMBs at 30 °C. The unstable interface between reactive anodes and electrolytes in batteries has been identified as a critical factor in limiting the long‐cycle stability of batteries. An effective solution is to build a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) that acts as a passivation layer to mitigate the side reactions between reactive anodes and electrolytes. The mechanical stability of SEI is important because SEI with poor mechanical stability cannot survive the volume and topography fluctuation of the anode upon cycling. The stress built‐up would cause mechanical failure of SEI, resulting in exposure of the fresh anode surface to the electrolyte, consuming the limited active materials and electrolytes, and inducing rapid battery decay. Therefore, understanding and regulating the mechanical stability of SEI is imperative for improving battery cycle life. In this review, the mechanical properties of SEI are discussed. Then, advanced characterization tools to measure the mechanical properties of SEI are introduced. Additionally, recent progress on improving the mechanical stability of SEI is presented in terms of in situ and ex situ modifications of SEI. The long-term operation of intermediate temperature-solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs) could be significantly influenced by the stability of the interconnect itself, especially, its oxidation resistance under the cathode environment. To effectively prevent Cr-volatilization and improve the interconnector performance, application of highly dense and stable protective coatings over the interconnector is indispensable. In this work, Ni-Co-based alloy protective coatings doped with Fe and Cu were applied onto the 441 interconnector via a novel high-speed laser cladding technology. The microstructure evolution, phase composition, oxidation resistance, electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of the coated steels were investigated at different oxidation stages at 800 °C. It was found that the Ni 33.8 Co 34 Fe 32.2 -coated steel shows the best oxidation resistance and electrical properties. The oxidation rate (k p) and ASR of Ni 33.8 Co 34 Fe 32.2 -coated steel is respectively 4.44 × 10−13 g2 cm−4 s−1 and 25.55 mΩ cm2, significantly lower than the uncoated steel and Ni 44.6 Co 44.7 Cu 10.7 -coated steel at the end of 1000-h test cycle. The resultant conductivity of the Ni 44.6 Co 44.7 Cu 10.7 and Ni 33.8 Co 34 Fe 32.2 -coated steels is approximately 7.8 and 4.1 S cm−1, respectively, which could meet the requirement for SOFC stacks. In addition, the nano-hardness of the Ni 33.8 Co 34 Fe 32.2 and Ni 44.6 Co 44.7 Cu 10.7 -coated steels was found to be 8.3 GPa and 8.8 GPa, respectively, through nanoindentation testing. The improved surface hardness is attributed to grain refinement and increased oxide content on the coating surface. The results indicated that the Ni-Co-based alloy coatings effectively improved the long-term stability and mechanical property of the 441 interconnector under the SOFC cathode environment. In this research, we investigated the mechanical properties of NiCo binary alloy both with and without grain boundaries, across various alloy compositions. We investigated the effects of edge dislocation, alloy compositions, and grain boundaries on the mechanical properties of FCC NiCo using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. By analyzing the influence of the grain boundaries with different alloy compositions on several mechanical properties, we were able to gain a deeper understanding of how these characteristics were modified. The elastic moduli increased with increasing grain boundaries for a specific chemical composition, indicating that NiCo becomes more rigid. The anisotropy factor analysis showed that NiCo have a natural tendency toward anisotropy, which is further influenced by the presence of grain boundaries. Grain boundaries have a significant effect on strength and ductility across a wide range of alloy compositions. These results indicate that a deeper comprehension of these implications can aid in designing improved binary alloy with superior mechanical characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metal halide perovskites are crystalline materials with a sharp increase in popularity and rapidly becoming a major contender for optoelectronic device applications. In this work, we provide the optoelectronic features of a possible novel candidate, ZSnCl3 (Z = Na/K) Sn‐based on a detailed numerical simulation. The output of the current computations is compared to the results that are currently available, and a respectable agreement is noted. The studied compounds were cubic in nature and structurally stabe. The mechanical properties reflect the mechanical stability and ductility of the proposed materials. The Sn‐based single perovskite compounds proposed in this study are mechanically stable and ductile. The narrow direct band gap for NaSnCl3 and KSnCl3 are 1.36 eV and 1.47 eV, respectively, using the HSE06 hybrid function with the Boltztrp2 integrated in Quantum ESPRESSO (QE) software. The effective use of these compounds in perovskite solar cells and other optoelectronic applications was confirmed by optical absorption spectral measurements conducted in the photon energy range of 0–20 eV. A novel cobalt-free, high-nickel cathode material, named 0.01B-LiNi 0.98 Mg 0.01 Zr 0.01 O 2 (NMZB), is introduced, aimed at enhancing stability. Mg, Zr, and B elements are strategically incorporated, with Mg and Zr primarily located inside particles and B predominantly on the surface, boosting both bulk and surface stability. NMZB exhibits outstanding electrochemical performance, with 90.5% capacity retention after 200 cycles at a 1C rate. Herein, a 1300 MPa grade complex phase steel with high formability (CH) is developed, which is achieved through the formation of cementite during pretreatment and the control of austempering temperature to enhance the stability of retained austenite (RA). Due to the insufficient diffusion of Mn during cementite dissolution, Mn enrichment enhances the mechanical stability of austenite, thereby increasing austenite content at room temperature. As the austempering temperature increases from 340 °C to 400 °C, the RA content increases, but its stability decreases significantly. Compared with the content of RA, its stability is more critical for enhancing plasticity. RA formed at lower austempering temperatures is highly stable, enlarging the strain range of the transformation‐induced plasticity effect and improving material plasticity. The experimental steel achieves optimal plasticity while maintaining strength when overaged at 360 °C. Specifically, the yield strength is 963 MPa, the ultimate tensile strength is 1394 MPa, and the total elongation is 14.0%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The surgical treatment for mandibular repositioning using a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) favours the development of techniques that result in adequate repair and stability. In Puricelli's mandibular sagittal split osteotomy (PMSSO) proposal, the vertical lateral cut osteotomy is located in the interradicular space between the lower first molar and second premolar. Objectives: This in silico study aimed to investigate the mechanical stability of PMSSO and compare it with the classical Obwegeser–Dal Pont technique for mandibular advancement. Materials and methods: A computational geometric model of the mandible was created in a virtual environment using computer-aided design (CAD) software. After reproducing the advancements, two test groups were developed: GTOD10, Obwegeser–Dal Pont osteotomy, and GTP10, Puricelli osteotomy, both simulating a 10-mm mandibular advancement, allowing for measuring the area of overlap between bone segments. With the geometric changes promoted by the osteotomy, boundary conditions of displacement and force were applied to a CAD software based on finite element analysis (FEA), allowing for quantitative and comparative analysis of the stress and vertical displacement of the mandible, mechanical measurements that may be associated with strength and stiffness. Results: A 17.48% higher stress was observed in the GTP10 group than in GTOD10. However, the region of highest stress in GTP10 was found in a part of the bone that was still intact and far from the area of fragility caused by lateral vertical osteotomy. In contrast, in GTOD10, the region with high stress was in a less resistant bone region. The GTP10 group showed a 28.73% lower displacement than GTOD10. The area of overlap between the proximal and distal segments of the mandible was 33.13% larger in the GTP10 than in the GTOD10 group. Conclusion: The PMSSO method, performed in large mandibular advancements, keeps the point of highest stress away from the mandibular fragility zone. Considering the same amount of advancement, it also promotes less displacement and larger areas of bone overlap. Objectives: In the present study, blends of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), starch (SH), nanohydroxyapatite (Nano-HA), and reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) were used to fabricate an electrospun nano scaffold (ENS), via electrospinning for their potential application in oral and maxillofacial bone soft and hard tissue regeneration. Materials and methods: The scaffold was characterized for its physicochemical and mechanical properties. An invitro study was carried out using human osteoblast MG-63 bone cells. Surface characterization, particularly the analysis of calcium content, was performed before and after immersion in the simulated body fluid (SBF). Additionally, the impact of surface treatment on antimicrobial activity was investigated. Results: The results demonstrated that the tensile strength (18.12 ± 0.14 MPa), elongation at break (19.23 ± 0.11%), and flexing index (20.15 ± 0.13%) of the ENS were outstanding, indicating promising performance. The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays demonstrated the biocompatible nature of the ENS. The bioactivity test result of ENS showed excellent deposition of bone apatite crystals. The ENS exhibited antimicrobial properties against E. coli (3.41 ± 0.03 mm) and S. aureus (3.12 ± 0.08 mm). Conclusions: The ENS, possessing the desired properties, has the potential to be tested in large animals for oral and maxillofacial bone and soft tissue regeneration after obtaining the necessary approvals. Organic photodetectors (OPDs) hold immense promise for stretchable and wearable applications, but their photoactive films demonstrate brittleness, stiffness, and mechanical instability, posing challenges for future applications. Herein, the nanoconfinement effect is reported to substantially improve the stretchability and mechanical stability while reducing the stiffness of photoactive films, simultaneously maintaining the high light detection performance. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and photoelectric performance of the quaternary blend films with varying elastomer contents are thoroughly characterized. Additionally, the elastic modulus of quaternary blends can be accurately predicted by the Coran–Patel model. Cyclic tensile tests demonstrate enhanced mechanical stability, resulting in a specific detectivity of the quaternary blend with the nanoconfinement effect being 19 times higher than that of the ternary blend after 200 cycles. Structural, electronic, elastic, and optical properties of double spinel structure compound MgAlGaO4 have been investigated using first-principles density functional theory. The calculated band structure represents that the examined compound shows a wide band semiconducting nature with a band gap of 3.796 eV. Therefore, it is useful for making devices of short wavelength LEDs and lasers and also useful for military applications for radars. The results of elastic constants show that the studied double spinel structure compound MgAlGaO4 is mechanically stable. The calculated flexibility indicator of the materials, i.e., Pugh's ductility index (B/G) is 2.001 represents that the above compound is ductile under ambient conditions. The optical parameters such as the dielectric constant (real and imaginary), optical conductivity, refractive index, absorption and extinction coefficient, and the electronic energy loss function have been investigated. Halide perovskites are an intriguing renewable energy materials that may assist in addressing the world's energy scarcity. The Goldsmith tolerance factor (0.99 and 1.00) and negative formation energy guarantee the examined materials' structural and thermodynamic stabilities. The Poisson's and Pugh's ratio proves the reviewed materials' ductile nature. K/RbOsCl3 has electronic band gaps of 1.37 eV/1.39 eV and the highest light absorption in the ultraviolet and visible areas, enhancing its efficacy for solar cells and other optoelectronics technologies. The highest Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity render these materials feasible for thermoelectric properties. KOsCl3 and RbOsCl3 exemplify figures of merit of 0.89 and 0.88, respectively, at the ambient temperature. In this work, we use first-principles to calculate the structural, mechanical, electronic, dynamic, thermodynamic, optical and hydrogen storage properties of XMoH 3 (X = Na, K, Rb, Cs) for the first time. Our calculated formation energy, elastic constants and phonon spectra show that XMoH 3 perovskites are thermodynamically, mechanically, and dynamically stable. The investigation of B/G ratio, Cauchy pressure and Poisson's ratio shows that NaMoH 3 , KMoH 3 and RbMoH 3 are brittle materials, while CsMoH 3 is the tough material. In addition, the anisotropy factor, wave velocity and Debye temperature of these hydrides were calculated. The band structures of XMoH 3 hydrides suggest that KMoH 3 and RbMoH 3 are metallic materials, while NaMoH 3 and CsMoH 3 are half-metallic compounds. The optical properties of these hydrides in the range of 0 – 40 eV were studied. We found that these compounds own high polarization and high reflection. The gravimetric hydrogen storage capacities of NaMoH 3 , KMoH 3 , RbMoH 3 and CsMoH 3 are 2.48 wt%, 2.19 wt%, 1.64 wt% and 1.30 wt%, respectively, and their hydrogen desorption temperatures are 498 K, 413 K, 385 K and 345 K, respectively. The thermodynamic properties, including entropy, free energy, enthalpy and heat capacity of XMoH 3 were also investigated. Black phosphorus (BP) emerges as a highly promising electrode material for next generation of energy‐storage systems. Yet, its full potential is hindered by the instability of the solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) and the inflammability of its liquid systems. Here a pioneering UV‐induced in situ strategy is introduced for SEI construction, which leverages rapid electron supply to fracture sulfur‐dihalide bonds. This technique yields internal dihalide inorganic components and an external polymer segment, with any excess organic material being purged through pores. The (E)‐2‐chloro‐4‐((3′‐chloro‐4′‐hydroxyphenyl)diazinyl)phenyl acrylate (CA), with chlorine‐terminated groups, is initially in situ transformed into a flame‐retardant phenyl carboxylic acid (PCA), and then encapsulated within an ultrathin BP nanostructure, further nested in nitrogen (N), boron (B) co‐doped carbon (C) sheets that accommodate cobalt (Co) single atoms/nanoclusters (Co‐NBC). The Co‐NBC@BP@PCA construct demonstrates an impressive initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of 99.1% and maintains exceptional stabilities in terms of mechanical, chemical, and electrochemical performancecritical for prolonged cycle and calendar life. This research sheds light on the interplay between the rapid charge supply integrated in situ plasticity (RSIP) approach and the proactive establishment of an artificial SEI layer, offering profound insights into enhancing the durability and providing a solid foundation for advancements in energy storage technology. Water-soluble photocrosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol), N-methyl-4(4'-formylstyryl) pyridinium methosulfate acetal (SbQ-PVA) solution was coated onto silver nanowire (AgNW) films to form SbQ-PVA/AgNW composite films by a simple solution process. The optical-electrical properties and morphology of AgNW films with different surface densities before and after coating with SbQ-PVA were analyzed, and the mechanical as well as environmental stability of the AgNW films were compared with that of the SbQ-PVA/AgNW composite films. The results show that the SbQ-PVA coating does not affect the electrical conductivity of the silver nanowire network and also enhances the optical properties, resulting in a high transmittance of about 90% for composite films with sheet resistance as low as about 20 Ω/sq. Meanwhile, the mechanical stability of the SbQ-PVA/AgNW composite films is significantly enhanced, with the resistance value changing by only 1% in 5 000 bending cycle tests, and it can withstand the scratching of 3B pencil. The SbQ-PVA also brings excellent environmental stability to the composite films, which can maintain the resistance and morphology stability for 4 months in atmospheric environment, and it can also be well resisted to the corrosion of acid, alkali, and salt solutions. In addition, the SbQ-PVA/AgNW composite films are able to remain stable in deionized water ultrasonication, and this feature can be utilized with a photomask for one-step patterning of silver nanowire films. SbQ-PVA/AgNW composite films with high photovoltaic performance and stability offer new possibilities to realize high-quality flexible transparent electrodes in a simple, environmentally friendly and efficient way. Flexible perovskite solar cells (f‐PSCs) have drawn widespread interest owing to their distinguished advantages in excellent flexibility and relatively low cost. However, the brittle grain boundaries (GBs) and defects in flexible perovskite film tremendously influence the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and mechanical flexibility of f‐PSCs. Herein, photothermal welding, a novel method, is used to improve the perovskite films quality and the PCE of f‐PSCs with a near‐infrared (NIR) dye (indocyanine green, ICG) and polycaprolactone (PCL) as additives. Due to the strong photothermal effect, ICG molecule not only can significantly enhance NIR light harvesting, but it also can weld GBs upon exposure to an NIR laser, which is conducive to the GBs connections and device flexibility. Meanwhile, the S═O bond of ICG and C═O bond of PCL can simultaneously coordinate with Pb2+ defects in perovskite. Furthermore, they can control crystal growth to form a smooth surface of perovskite film. Consequently, the unencapsulated PSCs based on ICG/PCL displays a high champion PCE of 20.62%, with 88.4% of the original PCE after being placed in dark conditions for 600 h. The f‐PSCs delivers a champion PCE of 19.55% and exhibits excellent mechanical stability, thus providing a meaningful scientific direction to fabricate high‐flexible f‐PSCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the quest for sustainable and high-performance hydrogen fuel cells, proton exchange membranes (PEMs) stand as a pivotal research focus. To overcome the significant challenge posed by the traditional trade-offs between proton conductivity and mechanical stability, this work introduces liquid-crystal-modified aramid fibers (DBAF) with highly ordered molecular arrangements and abundant sulfonic acid groups on the side chains as proton-hopping sites into a sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) matrix. The inclusion of components not only improves the proton conductivity of the membrane, but also boosts its mechanical strength. The results of our study demonstrate that the externally attached sulfonic acid groups create extra channels for the transport of protons. Additionally, the organized and consistently stable hydrogen-bond network enables the Grotthuss transport mechanism within the SPEEK membrane. The 1 wt% DBAF-SPEEK composite membrane exhibits a maximum proton conductivity of 0.23 S cm−1 at 80 °C, representing a 64% increase over the baseline SPEEK membrane's 0.14 S cm−1. Simultaneously, the tensile strength at normal room temperature is 39.7 MPa, exhibiting an improvement of 86% compared to the initial value of 21.3 MPa. Additionally, the swelling ratio is lowered by 18.69%. Compared with the baseline membrane, the DBAF-enhanced SPEEK composite membrane exhibits superior mechanical stability and proton conductivity within a moderate temperature range (30–80 °C). Anti‐reflection coatings have potential usage in photovoltaic solar cells, sensors, and display devices to reduce reflectance, glare and enhance light transmission. ARC was developed to increase more efficiency of solar cell cover glasses, by depositing SnO2/TEOS/MTMS coating using the sol–gel spin coating technique. The coating showed a maximum transmittance of 92.70% at 399 nm wavelength with an average refractive index of 1.42. The transmittance of the antireflective film was increased by 2.29% than the bare glass substrate. The surface morphology of the coatings was investigated using FESEM analysis. The mechanical stability of the coating was evaluated using ASTM standard D 3363–05 pencil scratch test, and it demonstrated good performance against 3H hardness pencil. The efficiency of solar cells has been increased by 1.56% after depositing with single layer SnO2/TEOS/MTMS film. Moreover, the coating maintains the solar cell's performance even during dust exposure, because of its self‐cleaning ability with water contact angle of 94°. After reproducing the advancements, two test groups were developed: GTOD10, Obwegeser–Dal Pont osteotomy, and GTP10, Puricelli osteotomy, both simulating a 10-mm mandibular advancement, allowing for measuring the area of overlap between bone segments. With the geometric changes promoted by the osteotomy, boundary conditions of displacement and force were applied to a CAD software based on finite element analysis (FEA), allowing for quantitative and comparative analysis of the stress and vertical displacement of the mandible, mechanical measurements that may be associated with strength and stiffness. Results A 17.48% higher stress was observed in the GTP10 group than in GTOD10. However, the region of highest stress in GTP10 was found in a part of the bone that was still intact and far from the area of fragility caused by lateral vertical osteotomy. In contrast, in GTOD10, the region with high stress was in a less resistant bone region. The GTP10 group showed a 28.73% lower displacement than GTOD10. The area of overlap between the proximal and distal segments of the mandible was 33.13% larger in the GTP10 than in the GTOD10 group. Conclusion The PMSSO method, performed in large mandibular advancements, keeps the point of highest stress away from the mandibular fragility zone. Considering the same amount of advancement, it also promotes less displacement and larger areas of bone overlap. Clinical relevance The results suggest that PMSSO, applied in large mandibular advancement, presents greater postoperative stability.

Abstract Halide perovskites are an intriguing renewable energy materials that may assist in addressing the world’s energy scarcity. The Goldsmith tolerance factor (0.99 and 1.00) and negative formation energy guarantee the examined materials’ structural and thermodynamic stabilities. The Poisson’s and Pugh’s ratio proves the reviewed materials’ ductile nature. K/RbOsCl3 has electronic band gaps of 1.37 eV/1.39 eV and the highest light absorption in the ultraviolet and visible areas, enhancing its efficacy for solar cells and other optoelectronics technologies. The highest Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity render these materials feasible for thermoelectric properties. KOsCl3 and RbOsCl3 exemplify figures of merit of 0.89 and 0.88, respectively, at the ambient temperature. Additionally, the Debye model was implemented to figure out thermodynamic parameters such as heat capacity, thermal expansion, Debye temperature, and Grüneisen parameter.

Abstract The Electronic and optical properties of InGeX3(X = Cl, Br) were examined by adopting the density functional theory (DFT) approach. We applied the GGA + Trans-Blaha modified Becke–Johnson (TB-mBJ) technique to acquire the precise bandgap of 1.52 and 0.98 eV of the compounds InGeX3(X = Cl, Br) respectively which suggests the direct bandgap at (M-M). The stability of the material is confirmed by the formation energy (– 2.83 = Cl; – 2.35 = Br) and Mechanical stability. Primarily elastic constants were extracted for each of the materials under scrutiny, and these values then served to gauge all of the materials’ mechanical properties. The assessed Poisson’s and Pugh’s ratios for the materials InGeCl3 and InGeBr3 were verified to identify the degree of ductility. The quasi-harmonic Debye model additionally covers the temperature and pressure dependence on thermodynamic parameters, particularly volume, specific heat capacity (Cv) at constant volume, and the Gruneisen parameter (γ) in the range of 0–800 K and 0–5 GPa. Hexagonal boron nitride is being considered as an additive for greases due to its structure and physical and chemical properties. In the context of the application of such lubricants in real tribological systems, it is important to recognise the effect of hexagonal boron nitride not only on tribological properties, but also on other functional properties of this group of lubricants. In the present study, tests including dropping point, penetration and mechanical stability were carried out. Additionally, particular focus was placed on the properties of the additive itself, including particle size distribution and adsorption properties, as determined by scanning electron microscopy and low-temperature adsorption isotherms. The introduction of hexagonal boron nitride particles into lithium and calcium greases resulted in enhanced resistance to high temperature and prolonged mechanical stress. This phenomenon was attributed to the type of base grease and the modifications in the configuration of the grease's spatial network that ensued as a result of the incorporation of solid particles. It was found that an additive with a smaller particle size and a significant proportion of nanoparticle fractions, and a more developed porous structure, was more effective. Microscopic observations of the structure of the greases confirmed that the solid particles were deposited in the spatial network of the greases. The distribution of hexagonal boron nitride in the grease structure was found to be contingent upon the physical and chemical properties of the additive. The superhydrophobic coating can effectively prevent the intrusion, adhesion and condensation of water-containing corrosive media on the surface. However, the poor mechanical and chemical stability of traditional superhydrophobic coatings significantly limits their application in complex and harsh environments. In this study, a superhydrophobic PDMS-EP@SiO2-GO coating was formed on the surface of Q345 steel sheets by using a composite substrate of graphene oxide(GO) and nano silicon dioxide(SiO2) with polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) and epoxy resin(EP), combined with spraying technology. The superhydrophobic, self-cleaning, anti-fouling, mechanical wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and anti-corrosion properties of the coating were studied. Results showed that the water contact angle of PDMS-EP@SiO2-GO was 166.57°, and the sliding angle was less than 3°. Due to the strengthening effect of GO on the coating substrate, the coating maintained a contact angle of more than 155° for liquids with water temperatures ranging from 20 ℃ to 100 ℃ and a contact angle of more than 160° for acidic/alkaline solutions. The sliding angle was less than 4° under the above conditions. After sandpaper friction(total friction length of 40 m) and 30 cycles of tape-peeling tests, the coating still exhibited good superhydrophobic ability, with the contact angle remaining above 152°. In addition, PDMS-EP@SiO2-GO, with excellent water resistance, demonstrated good anti-fouling and self-cleaning properties. In terms of corrosion protection, the lowest frequency impedance of PDMS-EP@SiO2-GO increased by an order of magnitude, and the charge transfer resistance increased by two orders of magnitude, showing excellent corrosion resistance. PDMS-EP@SiO2-GO addressed the problem of weak mechanical and chemical stability in traditional superhydrophobic coatings and enabled the persistent protection of the metal substrate. The as-prepared superhydrophobic coating, with good practicability, contributes to the safe and reliable service of mechanical equipment throughout its life cycle.

The burgeoning potential of hydrogen as a future clean energy source has spurred intense research into hydrogen storage solutions. Novel hydride perovskite materials aside metal hydride are at the forefront of this effort, engaging researchers worldwide. This study utilizes Ab-initio calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) implemented in VASP to compare the electrical, elastic, thermodynamic, and optical properties of cubic KXH 3 (X = Mg, Be) compounds. Generalized gradient approximation (GGA) with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzrhof (PBE) scheme is employed for optimization. Our calculations agree well with previously reported results. However, the tolerance factor suggests KBeH 3 may not be stable in the cubic form. The electronic structure reveals KMgH 3 to be semiconductive, while KBeH 3 exhibits metallic behavior. Both compounds exhibit mechanical stability within the study. Optical properties are also investigated, showing suitability for hydrogen storage in the low energy range. Additionally, the mechanical parameters satisfy the Born stability criterion, indicating good mechanical stability for both compounds. Finally, the gravimetric ratios for hydrogen storage are calculated as 5.86 wt% and 4.52 wt% for KMgH 3 and KBeH 3 , respectively. Flexible electronics have revolutionized the field by overcoming the rigid limitations of traditional devices, offering superior flexibility and adaptability. Conductive ink performance is crucial, directly impacting the stability of flexible electronics. While metal filler-based inks exhibit excellent conductivity, they often lack mechanical stability. To address this challenge, we present a novel conductive ink utilizing a ternary composite filler system: liquid metal and two micron-sized silver morphologies (particles and flakes). We systematically investigated the influence of filler type, mass ratio, and sintering process parameters on the composite ink's conductivity and mechanical stability. Our results demonstrate that flexible wires fabricated with the liquid metal/micron silver particle/micron silver flake composite filler exhibit remarkable conductivity and exceptional bending stability. Interestingly, increasing the liquid metal content results in a trade-off, compromising conductivity while enhancing mechanical performance. After enduring 5000 bending cycles, the resistance change in wires formulated with a 4:1 mass ratio of micron silver particles to flakes is only half that of wires with a 1:1 ratio. This study further investigates the mechanism governing resistance variations during flexible wire bending. Additionally, we observed a positive correlation between sintering temperature and pressure with the conductivity of flexible wires. The significance of the sintering parameters on conductivity follows a descending order: sintering temperature, sintering pressure, and sintering time. Finally, we demonstrate the practical application of this technology by integrating the composite ink-based flexible wires with conductive polymer-based strain sensors. The density functional theory (DFT) framework in the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) was employed to study the mechanical, dynamical, and thermodynamic properties of the ordered bimetallic Fe-Pt alloys with stoichiometric structures Fe3Pt, FePt, and FePt3. These alloys exhibit remarkable magnetic properties, high coercivity, excellent chemical stability, high magnetization, and corrosion resistance, making them potential candidates for application in high-density magnetic storage devices, magnetic recording media, and spintronic devices. The calculations of elastic constants showed that all the considered Fe-Pt alloys satisfy the Born necessary conditions for mechanical stability. Calculations on macroscopic elastic moduli showed that Fe-Pt alloys are ductile and characterized by greater resistance to deformation and volume change under external shearing forces. Furthermore, Fe-Pt alloys exhibit significant anisotropy due to variations in elastic constants and deviation of the universal anisotropy index value from zero. The equiatomic FePt showed dynamical stability, while the others showed softening of soft modes along high symmetry lines in the Brillouin zone. Moreover, from the phonon densities of states, we observed that Fe atomic vibrations are dominant at higher frequencies in Fe-rich compositions, while Pt vibrations are prevalent in Pt-rich. Recently, it was found that mud flocculates, or flocs, coexist with methane hydrate within turbidite layers off the Japanese coast. There is a concern that mud flocs may be broken down by the flow of pure water generated from the dissociation of methane hydrate, causing sand troubles in the production wells. To clarify the characteristics of the flocs, in this study, the samples of mud flocs collected from natural cores having contained methane hydrate were observed before and after sonication in a pure-water ultrasonic bath. Then, these flocs were placed in distilled water flow to investigate their mechanical stability. As a result, it was confirmed that the flocs mainly consist of silt together with a little clay and fine sand. In addition, these flocs were found to be stable for flow rates on the order of magnitude of 10−3 m/s, which is expected inside the strata during gas production from methane hydrate. However, it was also found that, after the distilled water flow experiments, the flocs were decomposed into silt and clay particles when pressed with a handheld needle in the air, suggesting that the floc might be a source of the fine particles as underground stress conditions change, although not many flocs are likely to be immersed in pure water alone. Currently, halide perovskites with exceptional properties are the most suitable candidates for RRAM devices. In the present study, a comprehensive investigation of structural, mechanical, optoelectronic and thermoelectric properties of Cs2BSnX6 (B = Mg, Cu; X = Cl, Br, I) has been conducted for the potential application in resistive switching random access memory (RRAM) devices. Mechanical properties display that studied perovskites exhibit mechanical stability and ductile behavior with an anisotropic character. A comparison of band structure using PBE-GGA, and TB-mBJ was also made. The band structure with TB-mBJ investigation disclosed that Cs2MgSnCl6, Cs2MgSnBr6, Cs2MgSnI6, Cs2CuSnCl6, Cs2CuSnBr6, and Cs2CuSnI6 have indirect bandgaps with value of 3.64 eV, 2.87 eV, 2.05 eV, 2.30 eV, 1.50 eV and 0.90 eV respectively. These values are found to be slightly more than PBE-GGA approximations. The optical investigation illustrates that Cs2CuSnI6 can absorb a wide range of electromagnetic radiation wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared, making it the optimal candidate for RRAM devices. Thermoelectric properties show electrical conductivity values of the 1.65 × 1019, 1.61 × 1019, 1.58 × 1019, 1.95 × 1019, 2.35 × 1019, 2.40 × 1019 (Ω.m.s)−1 for Cs2MgSnCl6, Cs2MgSnBr6, Cs2MgSnI6, Cs2CuSnCl6, Cs2CuSnBr6, and Cs2CuSnI6 respectively at 1500 K. Furthermore, the calculated optical and thermoelectric properties of Cs2BSnX6 (B = Mg, Cu; X = Cl, Br, I) compared with previously studied Cs2CaSnX6 (X = Cl, Br, I), disclosing that Mg and Cu-based perovskites display better optical and thermoelectric properties. It is demonstrated that the substitution of Cl, B, and I at different concentrations in TlCaF3 significantly alters the phase, electronic band structure and optical, elastic, mechanical and anisotropic properties of the material. At 2.81% and 5.63% concentrations of all substituted elements, the cubic phase of TlCaF3 transforms into a pseudo-cubic tetragonal phase. With the addition of substitutional atoms, a systematic considerable narrowing of the bandgap is seen, and it can be either direct or indirect depending on the symmetrical positions. The bandgap shrinking can be addressed, in part, via the total/partial/elemental density of states (DOS) in line with structural variations. From the optical response, the refractive index rises with substitution atoms. According to the mechanical stability requirements for each substitution, the determined elastic constants for cubic and tetragonal structures match. Additionally, using elastic parameters, it is possible to estimate the unique mechanical features to evaluate the ductility and brittleness of pure and substituted compounds. Furthernore, Cl, Br and I-atoms' substitution would make them a suitable choice for improved optimisation in ultraviolet filters (UVF) due to the existence of their absorption spectra in the ultra-violet region and the modification in structural, electrical, optical, elastic and mechanical properties. The progress of stretchable organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) has brought about new possibilities for highly functional wearable electronics. However, the efficiency and durability of stretchable OLEDs have been limited by the performance of stretchable transparent electrodes. Here, we proposed an interface engineering strategy that involves anchoring the growth of silver (Ag) atoms with amine-enriched biomaterials for high-quality stretchable transparent electrodes. The strong interactions between the Ag atom and the amine group enable the uniform Ag electrodes at an ultralow thickness of 7 nm, and provide remarkable mechanical flexibility and strain endurance to the Ag electrodes. The distinct effects of different amino acids were investigated, and a deep understanding of their unique contributions to the film formation process was gained. The resulting ultrathin Ag electrodes exhibit outstanding optoelectrical properties (transmittance of ~ 98% and sheet resistance of ~ 8.7 Ω/sq) and excellent stretchability during 500 stretching cycles at 100% strain. Stretchable green phosphorescent OLEDs based on the Ag electrodes have been demonstrated with a current efficiency of up to ~ 70.4 cd/A. Impressively, the devices show excellent stretching stability, retaining ~ 89% of the original luminance and ~ 78% of the original current efficiency after 200 stretching cycles at 100% strain. Noninvasive in situ monitoring of viscoelastic characteristics of corneal tissue at elevated temperatures is pivotal for mechanical property-informed refractive surgery techniques, including thermokeratoplasty and photorefractive keratectomy, requiring precise thermal modifications of the corneal structure during these surgical procedures. This study harnesses Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy as a biosensing platform to noninvasively probe the viscoelastic properties of ovine corneas across a temperature range of 25–64 °C. By submerging the tissue samples in silicone oil, consistent hydration and immiscibility are maintained, allowing for their accurate sensing of temperature-dependent mechanical behaviors. We identify significant phase transitions in the corneal tissue, particularly beyond 40 °C, likely due to collagen unfolding, marking the beginning of thermal destabilization. A subsequent transition, observed beyond 60 °C, correlates with collagen denaturation. These phase transformations highlight the cornea's sensitivity to both physiologically reversible and irreversible viscoelastic changes induced by mild to high temperatures. Our findings underscore the potential of the Brillouin biosensing technique for real-time diagnostics of corneal biomechanics during refractive surgeries to attain optimized therapeutic outcomes. Flexible perovskite solar cells often experience constant or cyclic bending during their service life. Catastrophic failure of devices may occur due to the crack of polycrystalline perovskite films and delamination at the perovskite and the substrate interfaces, posing a significant stability concern. Here, a multiple dynamic hydrogen bonding polymer network is developed to enhance the mechanical strength of flexible perovskite solar cells in two ways. The main chain of poly(acrylic acid) decreases the mismatch of the coefficient of thermal expansion between the perovskite and the substrate by 16.7% through its flexibility and spatial occupation. The dopamine branch chains provide multiple dynamic hydrogen bonding sites, which contribute to increased energy dissipation upon stress deformation and reduce Young's modulus of perovskite by 54.3%. The inverted flexible perovskite solar cells achieve a champion power conversion efficiency of 23.02% and retain 81.3% of the initial PCE over 2000 h under continuous 1‐sun equivalent illumination. Intrinsically stretchable organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) have garnered significant attention as crucial devices for powering next‐generation wearable electronics. Despite the rapid power conversion efficiency gains in champion OPVs, their brittle stretchability has failed to meet the demands of the Internet of Things era, severely hindering further development and practical applications. In this regard, a new dual‐donor polymer blending strategy is demonstrated for constructing intrinsically stretchable OPVs by designing a novel high‐molecular–weight conjugated polymer PM6‐HD. This PM6 derivative featuring long alkyl chains can reach a sufficiently high molecular weight and thus exhibits a high fracture strain exceeding 90%, which is ≈12 times higher than the benchmark PM6. Synergistic optimization of mechanical properties and photovoltaic performance in polymer:small molecule and all‐polymer systems constructed from the physical blends of PM6 and PM6‐HD is achieved. Crucially, the resulting intrinsically stretchable OPV demonstrates excellent stretchability and stability, with a record PCE80% strain of 50.3% and the efficiency retention of above 80% even after 1000 cycles of cyclic stretching at high strains. An ideal hydrogen storage material is a key topic in efficient hydrogen energy utilization. We have explored several potential hydrogen storage materials Mg 3 XH 8 (X = Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn) by first-principles calculations. The studied materials all belong to lightweight hydrogen storage materials. The normal phonon dispersion spectrum indicates, without regard to other materials, at least Mg 3 TiH 8 and Mg 3 VH 8 are completely stable in dynamics, which is also demonstrated by elastic stability criteria. The elastic properties show that they are all ductile materials with the applicable potential in flexible fields. Besides, they are gapless and metallic in band structures. With the correction of Hubbard values, all transition metal based Mg 3 XH 8 materials are magnetic materials with magnetic moments of 0.34 μ B for Mg 3 ScH 8 , and 2.14 μ B for Mg 3 TiH 8 , 1.29 μ B for Mg 3 TiH 8 , 2.65 μ B for Mg 3 TiH 8 and 4.86 μ B for Mg 3 MnH 8 , respectively. Whereas Mg 3 CrH 8 and Mg 3 MnH 8 exhibit highly light active in infrared and visible region. Considering overall structural stability, excellent mechanical properties, high gravimetric hydrogen density (6.21% and 6.07%) and moderate hydrogen desorption temperature (∼350 K), Mg 3 TiH 8 and Mg 3 VH 8 are considered as the candidates for promising hydrogen storage materials. On the basis of "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutral" goals, carbon sequestration projects are increasing in China. The integrity of cement sheaths, as an important factor affecting carbon sequestration projects, has also received more attention and research. When CO2 is injected into the subsurface from sequestration wells, the cement sheath may mechanically fail due to the pressure accumulated inside the casing, which leads to the sealing of the cement sheath failing. The elasticity and strength parameters of the cement sheath are considered in this paper. The critical bottom-hole injection pressures of inclined well sections under anisotropic formation stresses at different depths were calculated for actual carbon-sealing wells in the X block—the CO2 sequestration target block. The sensitivity factors of the critical bottom-hole injection pressure were also analyzed. It was found that the cement sheath damage criterion was tensile damage. The Young's modulus and tensile strength of the cement sheath are the main factors affecting the mechanical failure of the cement sheath, with Poisson's ratio having the second highest influence. An increase in the Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and tensile strength of the cement sheath can help to improve the mechanical stability of cement sheaths in CO2 sequestration wells. Soil aggregates are the basic unit of soil structure. The stability of soil aggregates is an important indicator for evaluating soil structure and soil fertility. In order to explore the effects of Acacia mangium on particle size distribution and stability of soil aggregates of Eucalyptus grandis × urophylla plantations, we measured the distribution and stability of aggregates indicators such as mean weight diameter(MWD), geometric mean diameter(GMD), mass fractal dimension(Dm), water stable aggregates(WSA), percentage of aggregates destruction(PAD)and aggregates stability index(ASI)in the 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil layers by the dry sieving method and the wet sieving method, and a pure plantation of E. grandis × urophylla(PP)and a mixed plantation containing E. grandis × urophylla and Acacia mangium(nitrogen-fixing tree species)(MP)were selected as the research objects. The results were as follows: (1) Compared with PP, the soil physicochemical properties of MP were improved in varying degrees, especially soil pH, organic carbon(SOC)and total nitrogen(TN). (2)The particle size distribution of soil aggregates in MP was better than that of PP, and the differences mainly in the particle sizes of >2.00 mm and <0.25 mm, but both were dominated by large aggregates(>0.25 mm). Compared with PP, the mechanical stability of aggregates in MP only increased significantly at 0-10 cm soil layer, but the water stability of aggregates in MP increased significantly at 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil layer. The mechanical stability and water stability of soil aggregates tended to decrease with the deepening of soil layer. (3)Mantel analysis showed that the stability of aggregates was significantly correlated with pH, SOC, TN, TP, BD and SP, and the stability of aggregates had the strongest correlation with TN. RDA analysis indicated that TN was the most critical factor driving the variation of stability aggregates. Our findings suggest that nitrogen-fixing tree species A. mangium can significantly improve proportion of macroaggregates(>0.25 mm)and the stability of soil aggregates in Eucalyptus plantations. This study can provide a theoretical reference for soil and water conservation, soil nutrient management and sustainable management of Eucalyptus plantations in the South Asian tropics. Liquid beads are core–shell particles with a liquid core and a solid shell. Calcium alginate liquid beads have been emerging as a promising platform for cell encapsulation. These beads have demonstrated their capability of encapsulating and culturing a wide range of human cells for tissue engineering. However, a significant research gap remains in the application of alginate liquid beads for encapsulating photosynthetic microorganisms. Herein, fast‐growing microalgae strain Chlorella vulgaris is encapsulated into calcium alginate liquid beads to facilitate the removal of nutrients from wastewater, minimizing the risk of eutrophication. Liquid bead‐microalgae systems are prepared, using different calcium ion concentrations as crosslinking ions. It has been thoroughly characterized for their morphologies, cell growth patterns, nutrient removal capabilities, and overall stability throughout the wastewater treatment process, with upflow anaerobic sludge blanket effluent as the wastewater model. The results indicate that the liquid bead‐microalgae system with the highest calcium ion concentration (5%) performs more efficiently, exhibiting a well‐formed crosslinking structure, leading to rapid cell growth with the highest cell density and the most effective removal of nutrients. Superhydrophobic coating is widely used due to its waterproof and self-cleaning properties. Carbon soot (CS) nanoparticles are naturally superhydrophobic and non-toxic which are superior to other superhydrophobic coating. However, the weak binding force of the CS nanoparticle layers hinders their practical application. In this study, micro-nanostructured PET-CS superhydrophobic coatings were prepared by a simple method. The obtained coatings presented durable superhydrophobicity and underwater stability, which are superior to PDMS-CS coatings and CS layers. The coating surfaces demonstrated superhydrophobicity under a water pressure of 13.72 kPa for up to 16 days. The surface could withstand water flush for more than 15 min. The coatings also demonstrated good mechanical stability and maintained superhydrophobicity after an abrasion length of 8 m. The composite hydrogel (PAM-LC) was prepared by one pot crosslinking polymerization with acrylamide (AM) as a monomer added into the crosslinking agent methylenebisacrylamide (MBAA) and ammonium sulfate (APS), the L-type Kara gum (LC) and potassium chloride (KCl) as the initiator. In order to expand the application of this hydrogel as an electrolyte in extreme cold conditions, the effects of lithium salt concentration and immersion time on the freezing resistance, conductivity and mechanical stability of PAM-LC based hydrogel were studied. The results show that the unsoaked hydrogel freezes at -12.68 ℃, while the hydrogel soaked in lithium chloride solution will not freeze at -75 ℃. Through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) test, it can be concluded that the conductivity of hydrogel can reach 8.03 ms/cm at -30 ℃, and also reach 22.77 ms/cm at room temperature, with the better conductivity than common hydrogel. The mechanical property test shows that the hydrogel not soaked at room temperature has excellent mechanical properties but poor frost resistance. After immersion in 5M lithium chloride solution for 24 hours, the hydrogel (PAM LC LiCl) still shows good mechanical stability after freezing at -20 ℃. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Medium entropy alloys (MEAs) have attracted significant interest due to their exceptional mechanical characteristics. This study employs molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the impact of transition metal (TM) elements doping on the mechanical properties of face-centered cubic (FCC) (CrFeNi)100−xTMx(TM=Cu,Mo,Nb,Tiandx=0,4) MEAs. We have doped 4% TM elements with pure CrFeNi MEA and analyze several mechanical characteristics such as lattice distortion, Yield strength, elastic constants and moduli, Vickers hardness, machinability index, and Kleinman parameters. The correlation between elastic moduli and doping implies a decrement in the stiffness of (CrFeNi)100−xTMx alloys. To confirm the ductility, a thorough assessment involving Poisson's ratio, Cauchy's pressure, and Pugh's ratio are conducted. According to the anisotropy factor analysis, the presence of doping increases anisotropy in (CrFeNi)100−xTMx MEAs. The findings of our work suggest that the improved mechanical properties can be beneficial in the development of MEAs suitable for diverse applications.

The effect of the retained austenite (RA) stability on mechanical properties of a medium-carbon transformation-induced-plasticity (TRIP) steel at different deformation temperatures was studied. Two steels were obtained by adjusting the annealing temperature from 780 °C to 820 °C and controlling the isothermal bainitic process, and the carbon content of RA in the steels was 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively. At 25 °C, ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and total elongation of the steel after intercritical annealing at 780 °C were 1390 MPa, 870 MPa and 40%, respectively. When the deformation temperature increased to 200 °C, yield strength nearly kept constant (860 MPa) while total elongation significantly increased to 73%. The stability of RA had a significant influence on the deformation mechanisms of the steel, hence leading to the distinct variation of the mechanical properties. The RA stability increased with increasing deformation temperature to 200 °C, reducing the rate of transformation from RA to martensite and making the TRIP effect more persistently. Meanwhile, due to low solubility of Cu atom and the large number of dislocations acting as fast diffusion channels for Cu and C atoms in transformed martensite, the joint action of the increasing temperature and the continuous TRIP effect promoted the formation of numerous nanosized precipitates including η carbides and Cu particles in the newly formed martensite. As a result, the work hardening rate was significantly increased, improving the ductility without sacrificing the strength. This study provides a strategy to control the deformation mechanisms of medium-carbon TRIP steel, which can tailor the stability of RA according to the requirement of application, so as to obtain a good combination of strength and ductility.
