Objective: Couples' joint coping is important in managing the impact of breast cancer. However, measures assessing couples' communication as a way of coping are insufficient. This study aimed to generate a self-report valid and reliable measure of couples' coping with a particular focus on communication. Method: We used baseline data of 343 couple dyads who participated in a randomized clinical trial targeting marital communication. Women were diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in the past eight months; couples were married or in an intimate relationship for at least six months, could read and write English, and lived within 100 miles of the study center. An expert panel selected items with conceptual fit from the Mutuality and Interpersonal Sensitivity Scale (MIS) that was originally designed to evaluate marital communication about breast cancer. Results: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a 12-item measurement model with four factors: Keeping the communication open with each other about breast cancer (4 items), Sharing a positive outlook on breast cancer (2 items), Avoiding discussion of negative thoughts and feelings about breast cancer (3 items), and Spending sufficient time together talking about breast cancer (3 items). Reliability ranged from 0.76 to 0.87 for women and 0.70 to 0.83 for spouses. To design user-centered services, it is essential to build empathy toward users. It is hence strategic to trigger empathy for users among professionals concerned with shaping service user experiences. There is, however, a lack of quantitative tools to measure empathy in design. Through two studies, we report on the development and validation of the Empathy in Design Scale (EMPA-D). The tool aims to measure service employees' empathy toward users. Grounded in theories from psychology and design, we first generated and tested a pool of items through expert inspection and cognitive interviews. In Study 1, we administered 16 items to 406 full-time service employees from various industries, including employees in customer-facing positions. In Study 2, we iterated on additional items and administered a revised scale to 305 service employees. The selected model consists of 11 items and has a three-factor structure (Emotional interest/Perspective-taking , Personal experience and Self-awareness) , which showed an adequate model fit and good internal consistency. Evidence of convergent validity was provided by moderate correlations of the EMPA-D scale with empathy measures in psychology (SITES, Empathy Quotient, Interpersonal Reactivity Index), whereas discriminant validity was demonstrated by low correlations with the narcissism measure Narcissistic Personal Inventory. We outline how this self-reported empathy measure can support organizations in enhancing their services and discuss potential limitations of quantitatively measuring empathy in service teams. • Diagnosis and treatment in tibetan medicine depends on individual underlying constitution. • We develop a new theory-based constitution assessment tool for practitioners and the lay public. • This new tool is tested in large, diverse samples and has high validity and reliability. Previous studies have attempted to develop measurement tools for constitutional identification in Traditional Tibetan Medicine (TTM), but they have limitations. We developed a new constitution self-assessment tool that is more firmly grounded in the Gyüzhi , the foundational text of Tibetan Medicine. This new self-assessment tool takes the form of a questionnaire in which the items represent the diagnostic criteria of the three central elemental dynamics of Tibetan medicine (rLung, Tripa, Béken) and are related to the body, psychology, and diet preferences. We tested versions of the new questionnaire in three samples of Tibetan adults (total n = 973) in Qinghai Province and evaluated its validity in 90 respondents randomly selected from the main samples. These respondents completed the questionnaire and were independently evaluated by Tibetan Medicine experts using traditional methods of constitution identification. A comparison of the results led us to revise the original questionnaire. Based on expert advice, we combined similar and overlapping items to simplify and improve the scale. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess internal consistency and indicated that the final scale is reliable. There was 80–93 % agreement between experts' identifications and self-assessment responses in the survey when both types of data were available. The Traditional Tibetan Medicine (TTM) constitution scale developed in this paper has a strong basis in theory and TTM practice. It can be used by Tibetan medical practitioners, other health care providers, researchers, and the lay public to identify individual constitution and help determine appropriate treatment. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Premenstrual Change Coping Inventory (PMS‐Cope). Methods: A total of 170 women who met the inclusion criteria were included in the methodological study. Data were collected between the dates of November 5, 2018 and May 5, 2019 with personal information form, PMS‐Cope Turkish version, and Premenstrual Syndrome Scale. Results: The PMS‐Cope was obtained through the translation‐back translation method and the content validity was obtained according to expert opinions. After the factor analysis, the Turkish version of the PMS‐Cope consisted of three sub‐dimensions as in the original scale. The factor loadings of the three‐dimensional scale ranged from 0.46 to 0.84, and the explained variance (60.329%) was at the desired level. As a result of structural equation modeling; ×2/SD values of the scale were found to be 4.19, GFI 0.93, AGFI 0.91, CFI 0.95, RMSEA 0.079, and SRMR 0.082, and this scale was acceptable. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the PMS‐Cope was 0.86. It was determined that item‐total score correlations were higher than 0.30 in all items of PMS‐Cope and there was no need to remove items from the scale. When the mean scores of the lower 27% and upper 27% of the scale were compared, a statistically significant difference was found between the groups (p < 0.05). The PMS‐Cope score was 41.04 ± 8.99. Introduction: Self-regulated learning (SRL), as the self-directed and goalorientated control of one's learning process, is an important ability for academic success. Even at preschool age, when its development is at a very early stage, SRL helps to predict later learning outcomes. Valid test instruments are needed to identify preschoolers who require SRL support and help them to start school successfully. Methods: The present study aimed to provide an adequate SRL test instrument for preschoolers by revising and optimizing an existing strategy knowledge test and validating the revised version-the SRL Strategy Knowledge Test--in a sample of n = 104 German preschoolers (Mage = 5;11 years; 48.1% girls). For the validation, we used measures of (1) SRL and related constructs, (2) psychomotor development, and (3) academic competence, to determine three levels of validity: (a) convergent, (b) divergent, and (c) criterion. All the correlation analyses controlled for child intelligence. Results: The results showed that the test is of moderate difficulty and sufficiently reliable (Cronbach's a = 0.74), can generate normally distributed data, and has a one-factor structure. In line with our hypotheses, we found significant correlations for the convergent and criterion measures, and numerically smaller and insignificant correlations for divergent measures. The correlations for the criterion measures failed to be significant when controlling for intelligence. Discussion: The missing evidence for criterion validity when controlling for intelligence may have been due to limitations in the measures used to examine criterion validity. Abstract Background Regular physical activity and limited sedentary time are recommended for adult childhood cancer survivors. The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare designed a questionnaire to assess levels of physical activity (BHW-Q), including two questions: one on vigorous physical activity (BHW-Q VPA) and one on moderate physical activity (BHW-Q MPA). Furthermore, a single-item question was developed to measure sedentary time (SED-GIH-Q). These questions are recommended for clinical practice and have been found valid for the general population but have so far not been tested in adult childhood cancer survivors. The aim of the study was to assess test–retest reliability, agreement and criterion-related validity of the BHW-Q and the SED-GIH-Q in adult childhood cancer survivors. Method A non-experimental methodological study. In total 60 participants (50% women), median age 28 (min-max 18–54) years were included at the Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Participants were instructed to wear an accelerometer for seven days, and to answer the BHW-Q and the SED-GIH-Q before and after the seven days. Test-retest reliability and criterion-related validity comparing the BHW-Q and SED GIH-Q with accelerometer data were calculated with weighted Kappa (k) (agreement) and by using Spearman´s rho (r) (correlation). Results Test-retest reliability regarding the SED-GIH-Q showed a high agreement (k = 0.88) and very strong correlation (r = 0.93), while the BHW-Q showed a moderate agreement and moderately strong correlation, BHW-Q VPA (k = 0.50, r = 0.64), BHW-Q MPA (k = 0.47, r = 0.58). Both the agreement and the correlation of the criterion-related validity were interpreted as fair for the BHW-Q VPA (k = 0.29, r = 0.45), while the agreement for BHW-Q MPA was interpreted as low (k = 0.07), but the correlation as fair (r = 0.37). The agreement of the SED-GIH-Q (k = 0.13) was interpreted as low and the correlation as poor (r = 0.26). Conclusion These simple questions assessing physical activity and sedentary time can be used as screening tools in clinical practice to identify adult childhood cancer survivors in need of support to increase physical activity level. Further development is needed on the design of a sufficiently valid question measuring sedentary time. AbstractWith the emerging trend of researching teacher identity from using qualitative approach to adopting quantitative or mixed-methods approach, it is essential and significant to develop instruments for measuring this construct. This paper reports on the development and validation of a measurement tool, the English Teacher Identity Measure (ETIM). ETIM is designed to measure in-service English teachers’ identity levels. In accordance with DeVellis (2017) scale development guidelines, ETIM was developed following the procedure: (a) defining the construct and identifying indicators; (b) creating item pool; (c) seeking expert advice and validating the translation. The psychometric properties of the ETIM were explored on two separate participant groups. First, the initial 24-item ETIM was piloted online with 103 Chinese university EFL teachers for factor structure. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) resulted in a 19-item scale with four factors: (a) future perspective, (b) career perception, (c) teacher belief, and (d) self-efficacy. Secondly, the 19-item ETIM was used to collect data from 331 university EFL teachers in a provincial capital city. The confirmatory composite analysis (CCA) using Smart PLS3.3.9 software confirmed the 19-item ETIM. The applications of the ETIM are discussed, and recommendations for future research are made in this paper.

Despite plants being of great importance for life on Earth, they are often overlooked. This oversight, known as "plant blindness" (a cognitive bias where people tend to ignore plant species), has increased over time as students prefer spending their leisure time with modern media rather than nature. "Plant blindness" describes the inadequacies of individuals in identifying and appreciating plant diversity, highlighting a significant gap in biology education, especially considering the central role of plants, critical components of photosynthesis, in ecosystems. However, current pedagogical tools fall short in comprehensively evaluating students' plant awareness. The purpose of this research is to develop new pedagogical approaches and assessment strategies to overcome the phenomenon of "plant blindness" in the field of education. Plant blindness encapsulates the deficiencies in individuals' abilities to recognize and evaluate plant diversity, exposing a notable deficiency in biology education. The focus of the research is to enhance students' knowledge and awareness of plants, thereby making them more sensitive and conscious individuals towards nature. The research aims to examine plant consciousness in four main dimensions: visual perception of plants, classification of plants, basic plant knowledge, and attitudes towards plants. The findings of this research are expected to shed light on new pedagogical approaches and assessment strategies proposed to overcome "plant blindness" in biology education. Additionally, the research aims to encourage students to better understand nature and the critical roles plants play in ecosystems, motivating them to take environmental responsibility. Moreover, it aims to provide biology teachers and educators with information and tools to enrich their lesson plans and teaching methods. Objective To construct a measurement tool for atrial fibrillation (AF) patients’ experience of catheter ablation, in order to provide quantifiable basis for improving the patients’ perioperative experience. Methods From Jun 2022 to Apr 2023, literature analysis, qualitative research, Delphi expert consultation, and analytic hierarchy process were used to determine the content and weight of various indicators of the measurement tool. Results The enthusiasm of experts in 3 rounds was 100%. The authority coefficient of experts was 0.946, 0.961 and 0.976. The Kendal harmony coefficients of the 2 and 3 rounds of expert consultation was 0.130 and 0.370 (P<0.001). The final measurement tool included 46 items and 5 dimensions, including operational and technical quality experience, comfort management experience, information and communication experience, emotional support experience, service process and response experience. Conclusion The preliminary construction of measurement tool for AF patients’ experience of catheter ablation, which were based on the features of specialty, could not only evaluate the patients’ experience accurately, but also provide a basis for targeted improvement of medical and nursing service quality. This study aimed to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine the anxiety levels of parents with gifted children. The participants were selected using a convenient sampling method. The sample of this study consisted of 550 parents of gifted middle school students attending 12 Science and Art Centers throughout Turkey in the 2022-2023 academic year. This study utilized the "Anxiety Scale for Parents of Gifted Children," developed by the researchers in this study, which consisted of 30 items, to obtain quantitative data. A Personal Information Form was used for demographic information. The scale's validity was assessed through face, content, and construct validity, and its reliability was examined using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, item discrimination, and test-retest analyses. Expert opinion and a pilot study were conducted for face and content validity, whereas EFA and CFA were performed for construct validity. The data of 300 randomly selected participants (229 females and 71 males) were used for EFA, while the data of the remaining 250 participants (189 females and 61 males) were used for CFA. As a result of the EFA, eleven items were excluded, and CFA was conducted. The analysis yielded the following fit indices for the scale: RMSEA= .054, GFI= .912, CFI= .937, and IFI= .939. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was .890. This feasibility study examined the results of implementing a computerized tool for academic assistance professionals to help students. The Measure of Obstacles to Succeeding Academically in College (MOSAIC) is a 31-item risk assessment tool used to characterize academic barriers. It utilizes a tailored computer algorithm on a mobile device to match students with resources to address academic barriers.The MOSAIC was customized and administered at seven universities around the United States. Student responses were analyzed in Microsoft Excel. Academic assistance professionals were asked about implementation in unstructured interviews.Stress and study skill concerns were the most reported barriers. The MOSAIC was well received, especially among students experiencing academic difficulties, but integration into routine workflow was an obstacle to sustained implementation.The MOSAIC holds promise in addressing issues impeding academic success. This study was conducted to examine the validity and reliability of the Postpartum Stressor Scale (PPSS) in Turkish.177 women were included in the methodological study. The data were collected between 24 September 2018 and 24 January 2019. The validity and validity of PPSS according to the language validity and expert opinions was provided by the translation-back translation method. It was determined that the Turkish form of the PPSS did not occur in three sub-dimensions such as the original structure. Therefore, the factor loadings of the PPSS one-dimensional scale ranged from 0.481 to 0.678, and the explained variance (35.3%) was sufficient. According to the results of CFA, factor loadings of the model ranged from 0.40 to 0.64, and t values of all substances were above 1.96. As a result of structural equation modeling. The obtained fit index values of the scale were found to be x2/SD 1.88, GFI 0.93, AGFI 0.88, CFI 0.95, RMSEA 0.071 and SRMR 0.065, and the model was acceptable. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of PPSS was 0.76. In all items of PPSS, item total score correlations were found to be over 0.30 and there was no need to exclude item from the scale. PPSS was determined as a reliable and valid tool for Turkish society. There was a positive significant correlation between PPSS and PSS (p = 0.000). When the mean scores of lower 27% and upper 27% were compared, statistically significant difference was found between the groups (p = 0.000). The mean score of PPSS was 16.67 ± 5.74. The objective of this study was to develop a measure that possesses both reliability and validity in order to evaluate innovative thinking within the realm of education. To achieve this, the instrument's validity and reliability were evaluated through quantitative methods in two distinct phases. A team of educational experts conducted the process of establishing content validity and ensuring that the items on the instrument accurately reflected the intended constructs of creative thinking. Following that, the assessment of concept validity was conducted using confirmatory factor analyses. The aforementioned investigations resulted in the discovery of a five-factor solution consisting of 25 elements, all of which demonstrated scores beyond the crucial threshold. This successful outcome confirmed the presence of distinct factors representing different dimensions of innovative thinking. The study enrolled 1250 students from vocational education institutions as participants. The data obtained from the participants was subjected to principal component analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, leading to the development of a model that exhibited a good match with the empirical data. This indicated the effectiveness of the developed instrument in measuring innovative thinking capacity. In conclusion, the research effectively developed an accurate and dependable tool for evaluating innovative thinking in the realm of education. Abstract Purpose This study aims to develop a scale that measures individuals' perceptions of privacy, security, use, sharing, benefit and satisfaction in the digital health environment. Method Within the scope of the study, in the scale development process; The stages of literature review, creation of items, getting expert opinion, conducting a pilot study, ensuring construct and criterion validity, and reliability analyses were carried out. The literature was searched for the formation of the question items. To evaluate the created question items, expert opinion was taken, and the question items were arranged according to the feedback from the experts. In line with the study's purpose and objectives, the focus group consisted of individuals aged 18 and above within the community. The convenience sampling method was employed for sample selection. Data were collected using an online survey conducted through Google Forms. Before commencing the survey, participants were briefed on the research's content. A pilot study was conducted with 30 participants, and as a result of the feedback from the participants, eliminations were made in the question items and the scale was made ready for application. The research was conducted by reference to 812 participants in the community. Expert evaluations of the question items were obtained, and a pilot study was conducted. A sociodemographic information form, a scale developed by the researcher, Norman and Skinner's e-Health Literacy Scale, and the Mobile Health and Personal Health Record Management Scale were used as data collection tools. Results: The content validity of the research was carried out by taking expert opinions and conducting a pilot study. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed to ensure construct validity. The total variance explained by the scale was 60.43%. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the 20-Item 5-factor structure exhibited good fit values. Objectives: Since the 1990s, patient rights have garnered an increasing amount of attention from health-care providers. Assessments of health quality, which were traditionally conducted from the perspective of health-care providers, have gradually become more focused on the perspectives of patients. The current study developed a measurement tool specifically designed for evaluating inpatient experiences in Taiwan. Methods: Data were collected using various survey methods, with 11,202 valid questionnaire responses obtained. The selection of questionnaire items involved item analysis, reliability assessments, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmation of the questionnaire validity through confirmatory factor analysis. Results: In all, 23 questionnaire items focusing on inpatient experiences were selected, with these items spanning 6 dimensions, namely, physician care, nursing care, interaction with professionals, respect and mental support, hospital environment, and discharge plan. The Cronbach’s alpha values for each dimension ranged from 0.69 to 0.88, indicating acceptable reliability. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis revealed the data to have a good fit, affirming the strong discriminant validity of the inpatient experience dimensions. Conclusions: The questionnaire developed in this study exhibited satisfactory reliability and validity. This study aimed to develop & validate comprehensive Self-Concept Scale for the Hearing-Impaired School Children (SCSHISC) by employing rigorous methodology. The unique challenges faced by hearing-impaired children in communication and interpersonal engagement underscored the need for accurate measurement tool. The study's purposive sampling approach included 230 participants, ensuring representativeness. The factor analysis revealed two distinct factors: "Discomfort within self" and "Incompetence," capturing feelings of unease, inferiority & communication challenges. The scale exhibited high internal consistency (α = .78 for "Discomfort within self" and α= .65 for "Incompetence"). SCSHISC confirmed robust psychometric properties, making it a valid tool for assessing the self-concept in SCSHISC. While limitations include a small sample size & potential response bias, this study contributes significantly to field by providing reliable measurement instrument that boosts understanding of self-concept dynamics among hearing-impaired students. In line with the study's purpose and objectives, the focus group consisted of individuals aged 18 and above within the community. The convenience sampling method was employed for sample selection. Data were collected using an online survey conducted through Google Forms. Before commencing the survey, participants were briefed on the research's content. A pilot study was conducted with 30 participants, and as a result of the feedback from the participants, eliminations were made in the question items and the scale was made ready for application. The research was conducted by reference to 812 participants in the community. Expert evaluations of the question items were obtained, and a pilot study was conducted. A sociodemographic information form, a scale developed by the researcher, Norman and Skinner's e-Health Literacy Scale, and the Mobile Health and Personal Health Record Management Scale were used as data collection tools. Results: The content validity of the research was carried out by taking expert opinions and conducting a pilot study. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed to ensure construct validity. The total variance explained by the scale was 60.43%. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the 20-Item 5-factor structure exhibited good fit values. According to the analysis of criterion validity, there are significant positive correlations among the Data Management in the Digital Health Environment Scale, Norman and Skinner's e-Health Literacy Scale and the Mobile Health and Personal Health Record Management Scale (p < 0.01; r =.669,.378). The Cronbach's alpha value of the scale is.856, and the test–retest reliability coefficient is.909. Conclusion: The Data Management in the Digital Health Environment Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that measures individuals' perceptions of privacy, security, use, sharing, benefit and satisfaction in the digital health environment. IntroductionSelf-regulated learning (SRL), as the self-directed and goal-orientated control of one’s learning process, is an important ability for academic success. Even at preschool age, when its development is at a very early stage, SRL helps to predict later learning outcomes. Valid test instruments are needed to identify preschoolers who require SRL support and help them to start school successfully.MethodsThe present study aimed to provide an adequate SRL test instrument for preschoolers by revising and optimizing an existing strategy knowledge test and validating the revised version–the SRL Strategy Knowledge Test—in a sample of n = 104 German preschoolers (Mage = 5;11 years; 48.1% girls). For the validation, we used measures of (1) SRL and related constructs, (2) psychomotor development, and (3) academic competence, to determine three levels of validity: (a) convergent, (b) divergent, and (c) criterion. All the correlation analyses controlled for child intelligence.ResultsThe results showed that the test is of moderate difficulty and sufficiently reliable (Cronbach’s α = 0.74), can generate normally distributed data, and has a one-factor structure. In line with our hypotheses, we found significant correlations for the convergent and criterion measures, and numerically smaller and insignificant correlations for divergent measures. The correlations for the criterion measures failed to be significant when controlling for intelligence.DiscussionThe missing evidence for criterion validity when controlling for intelligence may have been due to limitations in the measures used to examine criterion validity. The SRL Strategy Knowledge Test can be used in practice to diagnose the need for SRL support and in future studies and interventions on SRL development.

AbstractPatients’ expectations of cancer treatment could impact on their treatment experiences. Research in this area tends to focus on a particular aspect of expectations, and no suitable measure exists to explore patients’ expectations and experiences of treatment. The current study developed and validated two new, matched, measures: The Expectations of Cancer Treatment Questionnaire (EXPECT-CTQ) and the Experiences of Cancer Treatment (EXPER-CTQ). Items were generated using the previous expectations literature, alongside findings from qualitative interviews, and refined with assistance from cancer patients and a wider pool of researchers. A sample of 200 cancer patients completed the measures, and factor analysis was performed to validate the EXPECT-CTQ, resulting in a 39-item measure with subscales assessing treatment efficacy, physical side-effects, psychological side-effects, and the impact of treatment on daily life, social life and self-care. The EXPER-CTQ was matched to the EXPECT-CTQ, excluding the treatment efficacy subscale, resulting in a 36-item measure. Reliability analyses were conducted on both measures with good results (α > 0.6). Analyses of the expectations-experiences relationship encompassing a broad range of expectations showed that expectations are positively associated with experiences of cancer treatment. These two new measures are suitable for use in future research exploring both expectations and experiences of treatment for cancer and the implications of gaps between these constructs.

Introduction and hypothesis: Clinical trials for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) require a robust, reliable, and responsive tool for objective assessment of SUI post-intervention. The Aberdeen Home Continence Stress Test (HCST) is a novel patient-reported objective assessment tool, aimed to be patient-friendly and reduce attrition rates by avoiding hospital appointments and prolonged pad-wearing. We aim to describe the HCST for the first time and evaluate its reliability, diagnostic accuracy, and response to change. Methods: A secondary analysis of the Single-Incision Mini-Slings (SIMS) study (a prospective multicentre randomised control trial (RCT) comparing two surgical treatments of SUI was performed. In SIMS (n = 600 women), the objective outcome was assessed by the 24-h pad test, while the patient-reported success rates were assessed using the Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) at 15 months, 2 years and 3 years post-randomisation. Participants were instructed to perform the HCST before and after the 24-h pad test. The HCST was analysed in relation to reliability, validity, and the relationship between the 24-h pad test and HCST results and finally with regard to its responsiveness to change in PGI-I. Results: Compared to the 24-h pad test, the sensitivity of the HCST ranged from 0.81–0.95, specificity was 0.76–0.79, negative predictive value was 0.96–0.99 and positive predictive value was 0.32–0.43. Reliability was indicated by high-performing Cronbach's alpha value (> 0.7). An improvement of ≥ 2 leakage groups on the HCST (for example from Large at baseline to Small leakage at follow-up) was strongly associated with patient-reported success on PGI-I (OR 4.38, 95% CI 2.31, 8.31). Conclusions: The HCST is a valid and reliable patient-reported objective assessment tool that can be used for assessing SUI in surgical trials with good specificity, sensitivity, and consistency. Background: Assessment of physical and respiratory function in the intensive care unit (ICU) is useful for developing an individualized treatment plan and evaluating patient progress. There is a need for measurement tools that are culturally adapted, reliable and easy to use. The Chelsea Critical Care Physical Assessment Tool (CPAx) is a valid measurement tool with strong psychometric properties for the intensive care population. This study aims to translate, adapt and test face validity and inter-rater reliability of the Norwegian version of CPAx (CPAx-NOR) for use in critically ill adult patients receiving prolonged mechanical ventilation. Method: CPAx-NOR was forward backward translated, culturally adapted and tested by experts and patients for face validity. Thereafter tested by 10 physiotherapists in five hospitals for inter-rater reliability. Results: The experts and pilot testers reached consensus on the translation and face validity. Patients were tested at time point A (n = 57) and at time point B (n = 53). The reliability of CPAx-NOR at "A" was 0.990 (0.983–0.994) and at "B" 0.994 (0.990–0.997). Based on A+B combined and adjusted, the ICC was 0.990 (95% CI 0.996–0.998). Standard error of measurement (SEM) was 0.68 and the minimal detectable change (MDC) was 1.89. The Bland–Altman plot showed low bias and no sign of heteroscedasticity. CPAx-NOR changed with a mean score of 14.9, and showed a moderate floor effect at the start of physiotherapy and low ceiling effects at discharge. Conclusion: CPAx-NOR demonstrated good face validity and excellent inter-rater reliability. Background: A better understanding of pain in adult‐onset idiopathic dystonia (AOID) is needed to implement effective therapeutic strategies. Objective: To develop a new rating instrument for pain in AOID and validate it in cervical dystonia (CD). Methods: Development and validation of the Pain in Dystonia Scale (PIDS) comprised three phases. In phase 1, international experts and participants with AOID generated and evaluated the preliminary items for content validity. In phase 2, the PIDS was drafted and revised by the experts, followed by cognitive interviews to ensure self‐administration suitability. In phase 3, the PIDS psychometric properties were assessed in 85 participants with CD and retested in 40 participants. Results: The final version of PIDS evaluates pain severity (by body‐part), functional impact, and external modulating factors. Test–retest reliability showed a high‐correlation coefficient for the total score (0.9, P < 0.001), and intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.7 or higher for all items in all body‐parts subscores. The overall PIDS severity score showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's α, 0.9). Convergent validity analysis revealed a strong correlation between the PIDS severity score and the Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale pain subscale (0.8, P < 0.001) and the Brief Pain Inventory‐short form items related to pain at time of the assessment (0.7, P < 0.001) and impact of pain on daily functioning (0.7, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The PIDS is the first specific questionnaire developed to evaluate pain in all patients with AOID, here, demonstrating high‐level psychometric properties in people with CD. Background: Integrated care is essential for improving the management and health outcomes for people with Parkinson's disease (PD); reliable and objective measures of care integration are few. Objective: The aim of this study was to test the psychometric properties of the Rainbow Model of Integrated Care Measurement Tool (RMIC‐MT, provider version) for healthcare professionals involved in PD care. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey was administered online to an international network representing 95 neurology centers across 41 countries and 588 healthcare providers. Exploratory factor analysis with principal axis extraction method was used to assess construct validity. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate model fit of the RMIC‐MT provider version. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess the internal consistency reliability. Results: Overall, 371 care providers (62% response rate) participated in this study. No item had psychometric sensitivity problems. Nine factors (professional coordination, cultural competence, triple aims outcome, system coordination, clinical coordination, technical competence, community‐centeredness, person‐centeredness, and organizational coordination) with 42 items were determined by exploratory factor analysis. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.76 (clinical coordination) to 0.94 (system coordination) and showed significant correlation among all items in the scale (>0.4), indicating good internal consistency reliability. The confirmatory factor analysis model passed most goodness‐of‐fit tests, thereby confirming the factor structure of nine categories with a total of 40 items. Conclusions: The results provide evidence for the construct validity and other psychometric properties of the provider version of the RMIC‐MT to measure integrated care in PD. © 2023 The Authors. Objectives: This study aimed to validate a tool for coding police body‐worn camera (BWC) footage to measure the dynamics of police–community encounters, including items related to community members, officer performance, and situational outcomes. Methods: Over 1000 BWC videos were scored by five coders who participated in an iterative interrater reliability exercise to improve the agreement. Krippendorf's alphas and a multilevel simultaneous component analysis were used to assess interrater reliability and the component structure of ratings, respectively. Bootstrapped and multilevel exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to ascertain any underlying dimensions supporting officer and community member behavior, and cluster analyses were performed to examine whether interactions could be grouped into coherent categories. Results: The lower bound of unweighted means of bootstrapped alphas ranged from 0.67 to 0.96 depending upon item type, and 21.60% of the total variance in raters was between‐subjects. Factor analyses revealed only a single factor ("defensiveness") underlying four items related to hostility directed toward officers by community members. Cluster analyses described seven categories that were highly overlapping but conceptually plausible with cluster silhouette means ranging from −0.06 to 0.13. Conclusions: We validated a collection of interval‐level coding metrics on a random sample of over 1000 interactions between police officers and community members recorded through BWCs. In doing so, we provide a roadmap for researchers and practitioners to effectively measure the dynamics of police–community encounters and officer performance within those encounters and a framework for addressing the validity and reliability of items in future studies involving the measurement of BWC footage. BACKGROUND: Choosing measurement tools for diagnostic, prognostic, or evaluative purposes in a chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) population is challenging for rehabilitation practice. Implementation of measurement tools for clinical practice is impaired by gaps in knowledge about measurement properties. OBJECTIVE: Identifying evidence about the measurement properties of tools frequently used in Dutch pain rehabilitation practice. METHODS: A mapping review was conducted of eligible studies that investigated reliability, validity, or responsiveness, and interpretability, as defined by the COSMIN taxonomy, of original versions or Dutch translations of predefined Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in a CMP population. MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and CINAHL were searched in March 2021. Results were visually mapped. RESULTS: Thirty-five studies were included. The results show many knowledge gaps in both original and translated versions. In general, aspects of validity were most frequently reported. The Pain Disability Index, Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey were the most studied measurement tools. No results were found for the Checklist Individual Strength, Illness Perception Questionnaire, and Utrecht Coping List. CONCLUSION: Little evidence of the measurement properties of PROMs used in rehabilitation of patients with CMP in the Netherlands was found. Background: There are many factors during pregnancy and labor that influence women's acceptability of maternal healthcare. Nevertheless, the concept of acceptability of maternal healthcare has unfortunately not been clearly defined and remains difficult to assess, affecting its implications and approaches from maternal health perspectives. In this study, we proposed a practical definition of maternal healthcare acceptability and developed a tool to measure maternal healthcare acceptability from patients' perspective at a selected health sub-district in South Africa. Methods: We applied known techniques to develop measurement tools in health settings. The concept development drew from the literature review leading to the proposed definition of maternal healthcare acceptability which was then refined and validated by experts through Delphi technique. Other techniques included specification of concept constructs; selection of indicators; formation of indices; measurement tool/scale construction; and testing of reliability and validity. Factor analysis and simple arithmetic equation were performed on secondary and primary datasets respectively. Results: Experts in the field reached a consensual definition of maternal healthcare acceptability. Factor analysis revealed three factors retained to predict maternal healthcare acceptability indices, namely provider, healthcare and community. Structural equation model showed good fit (CFI = 0.97), with good reliability and validity. Hypothesis testing confirmed that items and their corresponding factors were related (p < 0.01). Simple arithmetic equation was recommended as alternative method to measure acceptability when factor analysis was not applicable. Conclusion: This study provides new insights into defining and measuring acceptability of maternal healthcare with significant contributions on existing theories and practices on this topic and practical applications not only for maternal health but also across diverse health disciplines. Introduction: Care integration in primary elderly care is suboptimal. Validated instruments are needed to enable the implementation of integrated primary care. We aimed to assess construct validity of the Rainbow Model of Integrated Care measurement tool (RMIC-MT) for healthcare professionals working in an integrated primary elderly care setting in the Netherlands. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, the RMIC-MT, a 36-item questionnaire covering all domains of the Rainbow Model of Integrated Care (RMIC), was sent out to local networks of primary elderly care professionals. Confirmatory factor analysis with maximum likelihood estimation was used for the validation of the factor structure the RMIC-MT. Model fit was assessed by the chi-square test and fit indices. Results: The RMIC-MT was completed by 323 professionals, primarily general practitioners, community nurses, practice nurses, and case managers. Confirmatory factor analysis and corresponding fit indices showed moderate to good fit, thereby confirming a nine factor model with a total of 36 items. Conclusions: The RMIC-MT is promising for the primary elderly care setting in the Netherlands. Cancer fatigue (CF) is a major issue facing cancer patients that can negatively impact their quality of life. This study describes the development and validation of the Cancer Fatigue (CF) scale for the assessment of fatigue in cancer patients. A total of 202 cancer patients at university hospitals in South Korea were recruited and completed the questionnaires. Descriptive analysis was performed to determine the participants' socio-demographic characteristics; the construct validity was examined using exploratory factor analysis; internal consistency reliability of the scale was estimated for the meaningful total scale and factors; and confirmatory factor analysis was performed to confirm the repetitive reproducibility of the factors. Findings indicated that the CF scale had good psychometric properties. 67.89% of the variance was explained by four subfactors: socio-cognitive (six items), physical (five items), psycho-affective (three items), and social-relationship networks (two items). The Cronbach's alpha of the 16-item CF scale was 0.89 for the total scale, and the range of Cronbach's alpha for subfactors was.75 to.89, indicating that it is valid and reliable. The 16-item CF scale is a feasible and time-efficient tool for assessing the fatigue of cancer patients in the clinical setting. Healthcare providers may use this measurement tool to explore cancer patients' fatigue and routinely track the effect of a customized intervention on CF. Introduction: In order to be able to carry out systematic teaching activities for the orientation and mobility skills that are vital in the lives of students with visual impairment in schools, it is extremely important to determine their performance levels with measurement tools. The aim of this study is to develop an Orientation and Mobility Skills Checklist (OMSC) for visually impaired students at primary and secondary school levels and to determine the cutoff scores. Method: The OMSC consists of two independent checklists. In the process of the OMSC development, the psychometric properties of the tool were determined by applying it to all tactile students studying in primary and secondary schools in a province. The findings on the validity and reliability of the OMSC have shown that it is suitable to be used as a measurement tool to determine orientation and mobility skills. The Orientation Skills (OS) checklist is a single-factor structure of 6 items. On the other hand, the Mobility Skills (MS) checklist has a 19-item, 3-factor structure. After the tool was developed, identifying the norm values was aimed by determining the percentiles so that the scores could be interpreted. With this aim, the OMSC was applied to a total of 402 students who were studying in separate educational environments opened for visually impaired students and to students who were continuing their inclusive education in the regions close to these schools in Turkey. However, since the scores obtained aggregated in low scores, the cut-off scores were determined with the Angoff method based on expert opinion. After the implementation, the psychometric features of the OMSC were re-examined. Findings: The descriptive statistics of the scores obtained revealed that 70.1% of the students received zero points from the MS control checklist. OS scores did not deviate excessively from the normal distribution. The construct validity and reliability of the checklists were examined, and the cut-off scores for minimum competency levels for the OS and MS checklists were determined as 2 and 6 points, respectively. Discussion: The results of the research were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature. The OMSC can be used to assess students, determine the progress of students studying at different educational institutions, and direct them to appropriate training in line with their needs. Background: Approximately 110 million Farsi speakers worldwide have access to a growing mobile app market. Despite restrictions and international sanctions, Iran’s internal mobile health app market is growing, especially for Android-based apps. However, there is a need for guidelines for developing health apps that meet international quality standards. There are also no tools in Farsi that assess health app quality. Developers and researchers who operate in Farsi could benefit from such quality assessment tools to improve their outputs. Objective: This study aims to translate and culturally adapt the Mobile Application Rating Scale in Farsi (MARS-Fa). This study also evaluates the validity and reliability of the newly developed MARS-Fa tool. Methods: We used a well-established method to translate and back translate the MARS-Fa tool with a group of Iranian and international experts in Health Information Technology and Psychology. The final translated version of the tool was tested on a sample of 92 apps addressing smartphone addiction. Two trained reviewers completed an independent assessment of each app in Farsi and English. We reported reliability and construct validity estimates for the objective scales (engagement, functionality, aesthetics, and information quality). Reliability was based on the evaluation of intraclass correlation coefficients, Cronbach α and Spearman-Brown split-half reliability indicators (for internal consistency), as well as Pearson correlations for test-retest reliability. Construct validity included convergent and discriminant validity (through item-total correlations within the objective scales) and concurrent validity using Pearson correlations between the objective and subjective scores. Results: After completing the translation and cultural adaptation, the MARS-Fa tool was used to assess the selected apps for smartphone addiction. The MARS-Fa total scale showed good interrater reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.83, 95% CI 0.74-0.89) and good internal consistency (Cronbach α=.84); Spearman-Brown split-half reliability for both raters was 0.79 to 0.93. The instrument showed excellent test-retest reliability (r=0.94). The correlations among the MARS-Fa subdomains and the total score were all significant and above r=0.40, suggesting good convergent and discriminant validity. The MARS-Fa was positively and significantly correlated with subjective quality (r=0.90, P<.001), and so were the objective subdomains of engagement (r=0.85, P<.001), information quality (r=0.80, P<.001), aesthetics (r=0.79, P<.001), and functionality (r=0.57, P<.001), indicating concurrent validity. Conclusions: The MARS-Fa is a reliable and valid instrument to assess mobile health apps. This instrument could be adopted by Farsi-speaking researchers and developers who want to evaluate the quality of mobile apps. While we tested the tool with a sample of apps addressing smartphone addiction, the MARS-Fa could assess other domains or issues since the Mobile App Rating Scale has been used to rate apps in different contexts and languages. This research is aimed to adapt the Turkish form of the 'Communication Skills Scale' to the Azerbaijani language. The scale to be adapted is a Likert -type scale and was developed by Owen and Bugay (2014). The scale items were translated into Azerbaijani independently by the researcher and the Azerbaijani language expert, and then the translations were compared by coming together and a single Azerbaijani expression was reached for each item. Necessary adjustments were made by taking expert opinions, and the language validity of the scale was made. The language equivalence study of the scale was carried out with Azerbaijani students studying in Turkey. The participants of the research consist of a total of 551 students, 297 of whom are studying at the undergraduate level and 254 at the graduate level, in one of the State Universities in Baku in the 2019-2020 academic year. As a result of the examinations, it was decided not to perform an Explanatory Factor analysis of the scale, and a Confirmatory Factor analysis was performed. In order to obtain better goodness-of-fit values as a result of CFA, the Communication Principles and Basic Skills dimension (1, 3, 6, 13, 15, 16, and 25), Self-Expression (5), Active Listening and Non-Verbal Communication dimension (11, 18, 19 and 22), and in the Willingness to Communicate dimension (7, 9 and 14) items were removed from the scale. After this process, a confirmatory factor analysis of the remaining items was performed. The reliability of the scale's internal consistency was calculated with Cronbach's alpha coefficient. With the help of literature, through induction and deduction, comparative analysis, logical reasoning and other methods, this paper studies the commonness among the 6 typical physical literacy measurement tools at abroad, and its enlightenment for China. The results show that the 6 foreign physical literacy assessment tools strives for multidimensional and comprehensive evaluation indicators, paying attention to the integration of subject and object in evaluation methods, and focusing on long-term development in evaluation results, containing practical characteristics in value orientation. For the enlightenment of the construction for China's physical literacy assessment tool, the assessment index is not only the level of motor skills, but also the willingness of people to interact with the environment. Background: In-person dietary counseling and interventions have shown promising results in changing habits toward healthier lifestyles, but they are costly to implement in large populations. Developing digital tools to assess individual dietary intake and lifestyle with integrated personalized feedback systems may help overcome this challenge. We developed a short digital food frequency questionnaire, known as the DIGIKOST-FFQ, to assess diet and other lifestyle factors based on the Norwegian Food-Based Dietary Guidelines. The DIGIKOST-FFQ includes a personalized feedback system, the DIGIKOST report, that benchmarks diet and lifestyle habits. We used qualitative focus group interviews and usability tests to test the feasibility and usability of the DIGIKOST application. Objective: We aimed to explore attitudes, perceptions, and challenges in completing the DIGIKOST-FFQ. We also investigated perceptions and understanding of the personalized feedback in the DIGIKOST report and the technical flow and usability of the DIGIKOST-FFQ and the DIGIKOST report. Methods: Healthy individuals and cancer survivors were invited to participate in the focus group interviews. The transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis. Another group of healthy individuals completed the usability testing, which was administered individually by a moderator and 2 observers. The results were analyzed based on predefined assignments and discussion with the participants about the interpretation of the DIGIKOST report and technical flow of the DIGIKOST-FFQ. Results: A total of 20 individuals participated in the focus group interviews, divided into 3 groups of healthy individuals and 3 groups of cancer survivors. Each group consisted of 3 to 4 individuals. Five main themes were investigated: (1) completion time (on average 19.1, SD 8.3, minutes, an acceptable duration), (2) layout (participants reported the DIGIKOST-FFQ was easy to navigate and had clear questions but presented challenges in reporting dietary intake, sedentary time, and physical activity in the last year), (3) questions (the introductory questions on habitual intake worked well), (4) pictures (the pictures were very helpful, but some portion sizes were difficult to differentiate and adding weight in grams would have been helpful), and (5) motivation (users were motivated to obtain personalized feedback). Four individuals participated in the usability testing. The results showed that the users could seamlessly log in, give consent, fill in the DIGIKOST-FFQ, and receive, print, and read the DIGIKOST report. However, parts of the report were perceived as difficult to interpret. Conclusions: The DIGIKOST-FFQ was overall well received by participants, who found it feasible to use; however, some adjustments with regard to reporting dietary intake and lifestyle habits were suggested. The DIGIKOST report with personalized feedback was the main motivation to complete the questionnaire. Abstract Background Patient safety is a fundamental principle of health care but is one of the biggest challenges currently faced and a serious public health problem, since the occurrence of adverse events is probably one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The vulnerability of the paediatric population, combined with the potentially dangerous context of intensive care, makes Paediatric Intensive Care Units services of particular complexity in matters of safety, where there is a greater likelihood of incidents with serious consequences. It is agreed that research on the topic of PS should start with the measuring of different types of harm that exist in the contexts, to identify high-risk areas and define priorities. For this, it is necessary to resort to a multiplicity of valid, reliable and specific measurement instruments and to learn their advantages and limitations. The objective of this review will be to identify and map in scientific literature the instruments for measuring incidents related to patient safety applicable in the context of paediatric intensive care. Methods This review will cover studies and documents that refer to all measurement instruments used in the field of patient safety in a context of paediatric intensive care. Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed nature published studies, as well as grey literature, produced in the last 5 years and relevant to the topic will be included, in Portuguese, English or Spanish languages. The sources of information include several databases (such as MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, JBI Databases) and sources relevant to grey literature. Two reviewers will independently screen all citations, full-text articles and abstract data. The extracted data, after being organised in the extraction table, will be mapped in a descriptive and logical way, taking into account the defined review questions. Discussion The mapping of the tools in these protocols will allow to summarise the most widely used instruments, to know their specificities and to guide researchers to use the most appropriate measurement tools for their context, specifically, in paediatric intensive care. Background: Assessment of physical and respiratory function in the intensive care unit (ICU) is useful for developing an individualized treatment plan and evaluating patient progress. There is a need for measurement tools that are culturally adapted, reliable and easy to use. The Chelsea Critical Care Physical Assessment Tool (CPAx) is a valid measurement tool with strong psychometric properties for the intensive care population. This study aims to translate, adapt and test face validity and inter-rater reliability of the Norwegian version of CPAx (CPAx-NOR) for use in critically ill adult patients receiving prolonged mechanical ventilation. Method: CPAx-NOR was forward backward translated, culturally adapted and tested by experts and patients for face validity. Thereafter tested by 10 physiotherapists in five hospitals for inter-rater reliability. Results: The experts and pilot testers reached consensus on the translation and face validity. Patients were tested at time point A (n = 57) and at time point B (n = 53). The reliability of CPAx-NOR at “A” was 0.990 (0.983–0.994) and at “B” 0.994 (0.990–0.997). Based on A+B combined and adjusted, the ICC was 0.990 (95% CI 0.996–0.998). Standard error of measurement (SEM) was 0.68 and the minimal detectable change (MDC) was 1.89. The Bland–Altman plot showed low bias and no sign of heteroscedasticity. CPAx-NOR changed with a mean score of 14.9, and showed a moderate floor effect at the start of physiotherapy and low ceiling effects at discharge. Conclusion: CPAx-NOR demonstrated good face validity and excellent inter-rater reliability. It can be used as an assessment tool for physical function in critically ill adults receiving prolonged mechanical ventilation in Norway.
