Master data management programs are large by nature since the aim is to provide the entire enterprise with a shared trusted view of the organisation’s most critical data assets. In this paper, we present what dimensions and activities a master data management program in a large organisation should consider and how to monitor such a program once it is up and running. Our findings result from an autoethnography study where personal experiences are connected to previous research. A heatmap approach is used to visualize the inherent complexity of a master data management program. Our approach is derived from participating in four different master data management programs in four different global organisations during 2007-2020.

В статье определено понятие нормативно-справочных данных об объекте через жизненный цикл объекта и дана их многомерная классификация применительно к предметной области железнодорожного транспорта. Подчеркнута важная роль нормативно-справочных данных в интеллектуальной системе управления и отрицательное влияние дефектных и противоречивых нормативно-справочных данных на управляющие и отчетные функции компьютерных систем. Кратко описаны взаимодействие основных автоматизированных систем ОАО РЖД и архитектура подсистемы, обрабатывающей нормативно-справочные данные. Multidimensional classification of master data is outlined in relation to railway transport. The important role of master data is emphasized in the intelligent railway transport management system. The negative impact of defective and conflicting contradictory master data is emphasized for control and reporting functions of computer systems. Briefly describes the interaction of the main automated systems of JSC Russian Railways and the architecture of the subsystem that processes the normative-reference data.
