This paper describes the hydrodynamic behavior of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles modified with citric acid (CA-SPIONs) in suspension under alternating current magnetic fields given interparticle and inter-cluster dipole–dipole interactions. The cluster size of the CA-SPIONs is modulated to control interparticle interactions, and the ionic concentration of the CA-SPION suspension is varied to control inter-cluster interactions. Dynamic magnetic susceptibility (DMS) measurements of the CA-SPION suspensions under alternating current magnetic fields indicate that the interparticle interaction by clustering and the inter-cluster interaction by increasing the ionic concentration cause frequency spectra modulation, such as their broadening in the low-frequency region and a decrease in the Brownian relaxation frequency. The experimentally obtained DMS spectra differ from the spectra numerically calculated from the hydrodynamic size distribution of CA-SPIONs using the Debye relaxation model without considering the magnetic interactions; the differences are attributed to the interparticle and inter-cluster dipole–dipole interactions. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of dynamics of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and facilitate nanoparticle parameter optimization for tailored applications in the biomedical field, particularly for their efficacy and precision in liquid-phase biosensing and imaging. In this paper, the effects of hydrostatic stress on the magnetic properties of Mn-Zn power ferrites are discussed. Ring cores were embedded in cement and the curing process gradually exerted pressure on the core. A novel testing method was developed to continuously measure the power losses and the magnetic susceptibility in dependence on magnetic excitation at a fixed frequency and room temperature with a vector network analyzer. After 450 h, a maximum compressive stress of 120 MPa was reached. Power loss up to 300% was observed, while magnetic susceptibility dropped by 35%. The magneto-mechanical effect on core losses was simulated with the Hodgdon–Esguerra hysteresis model, showing excellent agreement with tested results, which allows us to predict the behavior of ferrite tiles embedded in load-bearing surfaces for wireless power transfer (WPT) applications. When a diamagnetic graphite plate is placed on top of a magnet, it is subject to both magnetic levitation and gravitational forces. Computational modeling is used to demonstrate that these forces can balance each other to allow a stable tilt angle θ to be attained when the graphite plate pivots on the magnet surface. θ depends on the magnetic susceptibility χmag, which can be controlled by using laser irradiation to change the temperature of the graphite. Over a limited temperature range, there is a linear relation between the angle change Δθ and the temperature change ΔT. This predicted behavior is confirmed experimentally using a graphite plate (5 × 5 × 0.83 mm) placed on top of a 7.5 cm diameter neodymium iron boride magnet with a surface field strength of ∼5000 G. Using a 532 nm laser, θ could be continuously tuned from 52° to 26° by varying the laser power between 20 and 800 mW. The response time was about 15 s at all powers. Higher laser powers were observed to lead to a complete loss of levitation, followed by recovery and oscillation in and out of the laser beam. The linear dependence of Δθ on power suggests that photothermal tilting of the graphite plate in a magnetic field provides a fatigue resistant way to achieve large angular deviations using an external light source. Understanding the magnetic states and their dynamics in patterned ferromagnetic materials is of great importance for ultrahigh-density recording from the viewpoints of both fundamental research and practical applications. However, reliable access to magnetization dynamics in magnetic materials and devices on the technologically highly relevant terahertz range remains challenging. Currently, there is a lack of reports on terahertz magnetic susceptibility. Here, through micromagnetic simulations, we study the dynamics of pyramid-shaped, isolated magnetic nanodots and their arrays made of L10-FePt with high magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Numerical results reveal a significant magnetic response of isolated pyramid nanodots in the terahertz range. Specifically, two resonant modes, namely, a bulk mode and an edge mode, have been identified. For the lateral size above ∼100 nm, the nanodot's bulk mode splits and higher-order modes appear. Furthermore, the calculated spatial Fourier amplitude of resonant modes of nanopyramid arrays exhibits the dependence of lateral size and inter-dot spacing. To explore potential applications in classical and quantum information transfer, the hybrid systems between yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and cavities have been extensively studied, and four coupling regimes have been defined based on the relative strength between the coupling strength and dissipation rate of each subsystem. Achieving the control of magnon–photon coupling between nano-thick YIG films and cavities remains to be explored. We experimentally measure the microwave transmission spectra of a nano-thick yttrium iron garnet/gadolinium gallium garnet (YIG/GGG) film coupled to a superconducting cavity at different temperatures. The dissipation rate of the superconducting cavity increases significantly with decreasing temperature, which is influenced by the temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility of the GGG substrate. Accompanied by the temperature-dependent magnon dissipation rate, a continuous transformation of the coupled system in strong coupling, Purcell and weak coupling regimes is achieved. We have conducted the study of structural, magnetic, magnetothermal, and magnetoelastic properties of four rare-earth compounds: Gd4.5Tb0.5Si2Ge2, Gd4TbSi2Ge2, Gd4.4Tb0.5Ti0.1Si2Ge2, and Gd3.9TbTi0.1Si2Ge2 in the vicinity of magnetically induced phase transitions. We demonstrate that the introduction of Ti into the rare-earth sublattice separates the structural and magnetic phase transitions and changes the order of magnetic phase transition from type I to II, while preserving high values of magnetocaloric effect (MCE). Additionally, incorporating a small quantity of Tb enables the creation of compounds with enhanced MCE values over a specific temperature range of 240–290 K. The observed phenomena can be attributed to the combined effects of forced magnetization and alteration of magnetic susceptibility during the structural phase transition that accompany the magnetic phase changes in these compounds. A simplified model of anisotropic magnetic susceptibility in the Meissner–London vortex-free state of cuboidal superconducting samples is presented. Using this model, precision measurements of the magnetic response in three perpendicular directions of a magnetic field with respect to primary crystal axes can be used to extract the components of the London penetration depth, thus enabling the evaluation of the general superfluid density tensor, which is needed in the analysis of the superconducting gap structure. DFT studies are performed to investigate the crystal structure and geometry, electronic and magnetic properties of brownmillerite-type strontium-based oxygen-deficient perovskites SrTMO2.5 (TM = Mn, Fe, Co and Cu) in orthorhombic phase. The comparison of the calculated lattice parameters shows consistency with the experiments, and all these perovskites are thermodynamically stable as revealed by cohesive energy. The spin-dependent calculations of the electronic band profiles demonstrate the metallic behavior of all these deficient perovskites. The increase in electrical resistivity and electronic thermal conductivities with temperature also confirms the metallic behavior of these compounds. The optimized ground state energies in different magnetic phases and post-DFT treatment confirm that SrMnO2.5 and SrCoO2.5 are stable in C-type AFM, SrFeO2.5 is in G-type AFM and SrCuO2.5 in A-type AFM phase, respectively. The high specific heat of these deficient perovskites makes them good candidates for high-temperature technology. ABSTRACT Nano‐sized bivalent metal complexes, specifically [M(L)2] with L = 2‐((E)‐((4,5‐dimethyl‐2‐(((E)‐4‐methylbenzylidene)amino)phenyl)‐imino)methyl)benzenethiol] (C23H22N2S) and M = Cu (II) (C1), Co (II) (C2), Ni (II) (C3), and Zn (II) (C4), underwent synthesis and subsequent characterization. Elemental analyses, infrared, NMR, mass, electronic, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity assessments, and X‐ray diffraction studies were used to assess our bivalent metal complexes. DFT studies were used to study the tautomeric equilibrium of the tridentate thio‐Schiff base ligand (HL), via the DFT\B3LYP method in connection with a 6–311G* correlation consistent basis set. Two tautomers, which are thione and thiol forms, were studied to estimate the predominant one. The metal formed four coordinated with the tridentate N2S donor thio‐Schiff base to form octahedral geometry complexes. The SEM, TEM, XRD, AFM, and EDX of the studied complexes unveiled distinct and strong diffraction peaks, signifying their crystalline nature and providing evidence of their particle sizes being within the nano‐size. The crystal sizes calculated for all complexes were determined to be ranging from 27.73 to 76.39 nm. The interactions between metal complexes and calf thymus DNA, and their potential for mimicking insulin activity, were investigated in a controlled lab setting by measuring their ability to inhibit alpha‐amylase. The antimicrobial potential of thio‐Schiff base ligand (HL) plus complexes (C1–C4) were tested. The viscosity and UV–Vis absorption determinations were utilized to assess the calf thymus DNA (CT‐DNA) interaction with the nano‐sized metal (II) chelates. Polyradical cages are of great interest because they show very fascinating physical and chemical properties, but many challenges remain, especially for their synthesis and characterization. Herein, we present the synthesis of a polyradical cation cage 14⋅+ through post‐synthetic oxidation of a redox‐active phenothiazine‐based Pd2L4‐type coordination cage 1. It′s worth noting that 1 exhibits excellent reversible electrochemical and chemical redox activity due to the introduction of a bulky 3,5‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4‐methoxyphenyl substituent. The generation of 14⋅+ through reversible electrochemical oxidation is investigated by in situ UV/Vis‐NIR and EPR spectroelectrochemistry. Meanwhile, chemical oxidation of 1 can also produce 14⋅+ which can be reversibly reduced back to the original cage 1, and the process is monitored by EPR and NMR spectroscopies. Eventually, we succeed in the isolation and single crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis of 14⋅+, whose electronic structure and conformation are distinct to original 1. The magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate the predominantly antiferromagnetic interactions between the four phenothiazine radical cations in 14⋅+. We believe that our study including the facile synthesis methodology and in situ spectroelectrochemistry will shed some light on the synthesis and characterization of novel polyradical systems, opening more perspectives for developing functional supramolecular cages. A new complex of copper(II) with methyl-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazol-3-yl-ketazine (H2L) was synthesized with the composition [Cu2L2]∙C2H5OH (1). Recrystallization of the sample from DMSO yielded a single crystal of the composition [Cu2L2((CH3)2SO)] (2). The coordination compounds were studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy, and static magnetic susceptibility method. The data obtained indicate that the polydentate ligand is coordinated by both acyclic nitrogen and heterocyclic nitrogen atoms. The cytotoxic activity of the ligand and complex 1 was investigated on human cell lines MCF7 (breast adenocarcinoma), Hep2 (laryngeal carcinoma), A549 (lung carcinoma), HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma), and MRC5 (non-tumor lung fibroblasts). The complex was shown to have a pronounced dose-dependent cytotoxicity towards these cell lines with LC50 values in the range of 0.18–4.03 μM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The total content, forms, and mineralogy of iron compounds in soils of forest-steppe, steppe, and semidesert zones of a large territory from the central chernozem regions to the Caspian lowland and from the Southern Urals to the Kerch Strait are studied. The study covers Chernozems (n = 40), Kastanozems (n = 15), Solonetzes (n = 7), and Calcisols (n = 7). Our results demonstrate the specific features in the distribution of total iron content, mass balance (τFe, Zr), forms of iron compounds, magnetic susceptibility (χ), and mineralogy in soil profiles. The distribution of τFe, Zr in the studied soils reflects the processes and conditions of soil formation, as well as specific lithological features. For a more comprehensive understanding of the transformation of iron compounds in steppe soils, particle-size fractions (<2, 2–5, 5–10, and 10–50 μm) have been analyzed by Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility methods for Luvic Chernozem, Haplic Kastanozem, Haplic Kastanozem (Endosalic, Cambic), and Luvic Calcisol (Endosalic). In the clay fraction, a large share of Fe3+ is contained in highly dispersed oxides and hydroxides in a superparamagnetic state. In the humus-accumulative horizons of steppe soils, a decrease in the Fe2+ fraction in aluminosilicates caused by weathering is recorded. The observed correlation of the goethite/(hematite + goethite) ratio in humus-accumulative soil horizons with climatic parameters suggests the possibility to apply it for future paleoclimatic reconstructions. Mössbauer spectroscopy shows a significant increase in the content of nonsilicate iron in the humus-accumulative horizons of steppe soils as compared with the soil-forming material, which is an important confirmation for the formation of iron oxides during pedogenesis. A comparison of the methods for assaying nonsilicate iron in soils (Mössbauer spectroscopy and Mehra–Jackson extraction) demonstrates considerable differences in the results, suggesting that the chemical technique underestimates the amount of free iron forms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) around metal implants has been challenging due to magnetic susceptibility differences between metal implants and adjacent tissues, resulting in image signal loss, geometric distortion, and loss of fat suppression. These artifacts can compromise the diagnostic accuracy and the evaluation of surrounding anatomical structures. As the prevalence of total joint replacements continues to increase in our aging society, there is a need for proper radiological assessment of tissues around metal implants to aid clinical decision-making in the management of post-operative complaints and complications. Various techniques for reducing metal artifacts in musculoskeletal imaging have been explored in recent years. One approach focuses on improving hardware components. High-density multi-channel radiofrequency (RF) coils, parallel imaging techniques, and gradient warping correction enable signal enhancement, image acquisition acceleration, and geometric distortion minimization. In addition, the use of susceptibility-matched implants and low-field MRI helps to reduce magnetic susceptibility differences. The second approach focuses on metal artifact reduction sequences such as view-angle tilting (VAT) and slice-encoding for metal artifact correction (SEMAC). Iterative reconstruction algorithms, deep learning approaches, and post-processing techniques are used to estimate and correct artifact-related errors in reconstructed images. This article reviews recent developments in clinically applicable metal artifact reduction techniques as well as advances in MR hardware. The review provides a better understanding of the basic principles and techniques, as well as an awareness of their limitations, allowing for a more reasoned application of these methods in clinical settings. Three new palladium(II)-iminophosphine complexes, [Pd(L1)(Cl)2] C1, [Pd(L2)(Cl)2] C2 and [Pd(L3)(Cl)2] C3 have been synthesized and successfully characterized by using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 31P-NMR, UV–Vis, FT-IR and magnetic susceptibility techniques. Catalytic activities of complexes towards Suzuki–Miyaura C–C coupling reactions between phenylboronic acid and several aryl halides were investigated under several reaction conditions (solvent, temperature, base, reaction time, and type of substrate). Under optimum conditions, achieving high yields of up to 99% was possible. When 1-bromo-4-nitrobenzene was used for complex C1, bromobenzene for complex C2, and bromobenzene for complex C3, product yields of 99, 99, and 98% were achieved, respectively. Three new palladium complexes bearing iminophosphine ligands was synthesized and successfully characterized. Catalytic activities of the synthesized complexes were investigated on Suzuki–Myaura type coupling reaction between phenylboronic acid and several aryl halides. Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) is an advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique to quantify the magnetic susceptibility of the tissue under investigation. Deep learning methods have shown promising results in deconvolving the susceptibility distribution from the measured local field obtained from the MR phase. Although existing deep learning based QSM methods can produce high‐quality reconstruction, they are highly biased toward training data distribution with less scope for generalizability. This work proposes a hybrid two‐step reconstruction approach to improve deep learning based QSM reconstruction. The susceptibility map prediction obtained from the deep learning methods has been refined in the framework developed in this work to ensure consistency with the measured local field. The developed method was validated on existing deep learning and model‐based deep learning methods for susceptibility mapping of the brain. The developed method resulted in improved reconstruction for MRI volumes obtained with different acquisition settings, including deep learning models trained on constrained (limited) data settings. Worldwide, Quaternary loess-paleosol sequences archive terrestrial paleoenvironmental information. The Palouse loess in the northwestern USA is one such deposit representing at least a million years of sediment accumulation. Loess paleosol sequences are often studied via the magnetic susceptibility of sediments and the changes in susceptibility with depth. However, since variations in magnetic susceptibility can have different underlying causes, the interpretation of the magnetic susceptibility of loess depends on factors specific to each major loess region. We measured the magnetic susceptibility of sediments along depth profiles in a well-studied exposure of the Palouse loess in eastern Washington, USA (the "CLY-2 site," 46.3131° N, 118.4874° W, WGS84). Our measurements show that the magnetic susceptibility of sediments in the Palouse loess varies systematically and predictably with depth and can be correlated with other magnetic susceptibility profiles at the outcrop scale and at the regional scale. We also measured changes in grain size, elemental abundance, mineralogy, and other magnetic properties to determine the most likely cause of the magnetic susceptibility signal. Based on these results, variations in magnetic susceptibility in the Palouse are likely driven mostly by changes in coarse sediment supply and accumulation of tephra rather than changes in weathering. Magnetic susceptibility is useful as an inexpensive, non-destructive tool for stratigraphic correlation of Quaternary loess deposits in the Palouse, especially in combination with paleosol stratigraphic markers and known tephra deposits. Background and purpose Methods Results Conclusions Susceptibility estimates derived from quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) images for the cerebral cortex and major subcortical structures are variably reported in brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, as average of all (μall${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{all}}}}$), absolute (μabs${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{abs}}}}$), or positive‐ (μp${{{{\mu}}}_{\mathrm{p}}}$) and negative‐only (μn${{{{\mu}}}_{\mathrm{n}}}$) susceptibility values using a region of interest (ROI) approach.This pilot study presents a reliability analysis of currently used ROI‐QSM metrics and an alternative ROI‐based approach to obtain voxel‐weighted ROI‐QSM metrics (μwp${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{wp}}}}$ and μwn${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{wn}}}}$).Ten healthy subjects underwent repeated (test‐retest) 3‐dimensional multi‐echo gradient‐echo (3DMEGE) 3 Tesla MRI measurements. Complex‐valued 3DMEGE images were acquired and reconstructed with slice thicknesses of 1 and 2 mm (3DMEGE1, 3DMEGE2) along with 3DT1‐weighted isometric (voxel 1 mm3) images for independent registration and ROI segmentation.Agreement, consistency, and reproducibility of ROI‐QSM metrics were assessed through Bland‐Altman analysis, intraclass correlation coefficient, and interscan and intersubject coefficient of variation (CoV).All ROI‐QSM metrics exhibited good to excellent consistency and test‐retest agreement with no proportional bias. Interscan CoV was higher for μall${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{all}}}}$ in comparison to the other metrics where it was below 15%, in both 3DMEGE1 and 3DMEGE2 datasets. Intersubject CoV for μall${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{all}}}}$ and μabs${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{abs}}}}$ exceeded 50% in all ROIs.Among the evaluated ROI‐QSM metrics, μall${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{all}}}}$ and μabs${{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{abs}}}}$ estimates were less reliable, whereas separating positive and negative values (using μp,μn,μwp,μwn${{{{\mu}}}_{\mathrm{p}}},\ {{{{\mu}}}_{\mathrm{n}}},\ {{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{wp}}}},\ {{{{\mu}}}_{{\mathrm{wn}}}}$) improved the reproducibility within, and the comparability between, subjects, even when reducing the slice thickness. A combination of magnetic polarity and rock magnetic analysis on the well‐documented section of the Um Sohryngkew River (USR) in the south Shillong Plateau, NE India, produced a sharp reversal marking the C29r‐C29n geomagnetic polarity transition at approximately 65.688 Ma. The rock magnetic studies indicate ferrimagnetic dominant mineralogy with abundance of SSD grains, with an anomalous peak in susceptibility coinciding with Ir‐rich limonitic layer. The magnetic reversal occurs precisely 61 m above the Ir‐rich distinct in situ limonitic layer, indicating that the C29r‐C29n geomagnetic reversal post‐dates the widely accepted Ir‐anomaly based K‐Pg boundary by approximately 355 Ka. Furthermore, the rock magnetic studies indicate its frequency dependence coinciding with the Ir‐rich limonitic layer suggesting a possible dust/aerosol source, while akaganéite is reported from the interval approximately 1 m below peak susceptibility, indicating signature of Deccan volcanism. This study infers the completeness of the USR section with a high rate of sedimentation of approximately 17 cm/ka among the marine K‐Pg boundary sections in the world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An asymmetrical dysprosium trimer with a molecular formula of [Dy3(hq)7(hqH)(NO3)2(H2O)] was obtained through a reflux reaction employing as starting material Dy(NO3)3·nH2O and 8-quinolinoline as ligand. Magnetic susceptibility investigations show the system to be an SMM, which was corroborated by sub-Kelvin μSQUID studies. Upon cooling, the magnetic susceptibility also exhibits a decrease in the χMT product, which was confirmed to be due to intramolecular antiferromagnetic interactions. μSQUID measurements, moreover, reveal a marked magnetic behaviour in the angular dependence of the hysteresis loops. The latter is a direct consequence of the non-colinear spin arrangement of the anisotropy axes of each Dy(III) ion in [Dy3(hq)7(hqH)(NO3)2(H2O)] and the interaction between the ions, as also evidenced by CASSCF calculations. Dykes are one of the primary subvolcanic bodies that transport magma from the shallow magma chamber or from the deep-seated magma reservoir. The mechanism of magma transport and emplacement in dyke swarms can contribute precious details on source and how magma has associated with crustal rocks. Here we are presenting the results obtained from the Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) on their mode of emplacement and to understand magma flow direction. AMS and rock magnetic studies were performed on 33 dykes located on the West coast of Maharashtra, (India) to determine the magma flow direction using magnetic fabric. Thermomagnetic curves and hysteresis loop measurement indicates that titanomagnetite of associated pseudo-single-domain/multi-domain grain sizes are responsible for the magnetic fabrics. Based on the clustering of the principal AMS axes, three types of AMS fabrics were recognized, (i) Normal fabric, interpreted as due to magma flow characterised by clustering of K1–K2 axes on the dyke plane and K3 axes are nearly perpendicular to it, (ii) Inverse fabric with K2–K3 plane parallel to the dyke plane and K3 is perpendicular to it and (iii) Intermediate fabric, with K1–K3 axes clustering close to dyke plane. The inclination of the K1 axis (IK1) of Normal fabric is the most important to determine the flow of magma for the studied dyke swarm. The IK1 of the studied dykes were fed dominantly by horizontal (IK1 < 30°), inclined (30° < IK1 < 60°) up to vertical fluxes (IK1 > 60°). These results suggest that the dykes may be closer to the magma source and horizontal magma flow inferred from the dykes reveals source is located further away. The equilibrium geometry, tensors of diamagnetic, paramagnetic and magnetic susceptibility of (TiO2)n clusters (n = 1–4, 10–16) and supramolecular complexes [(TiO2)10(H2O)m] (m = 1–12) are calculated using the density functional theory in the M06/6-31G(d,p) approximation. A conclusion is reached on the predominance of the paramagnetic contribution and the strong effect the size and hydration of clusters have on the isotropic magnetic susceptibility. Correlations are established and regression equations are proposed for the isotropic magnetic susceptibility and the numbers of electrons in clusters (TiO2)n and water molecules in complexes (TiO2)10(H2O)m. Magnetism in Croatian caves has been significantly underexplored, despite the well-documented preservation of cave sediments. This study investigates whether magnetic susceptibility can be effectively recorded in Croatian caves and, if so, whether there are differences between in situ and laboratory measurements, as well as the extent of these differences. The focus is on two prominent sites within the Velebit Mountain range of the Dinaric Karst: the deep Slovačka Cave and the extensive Crnopac Cave System (ex. Kita Gaćešina Cave). Magnetic susceptibility was measured in soft sediments using the Kappameter KM-7 for in situ assessments and the Bartington MS2B System for laboratory analyses. The comparison of the two devices aimed to evaluate the feasibility of detecting magnetic susceptibility variations within carbonate sediments. Sampling locations were selected based on preliminary assessments of magnetic susceptibility variations and accessibility for sampling. Characteristic samples from each profile underwent X-ray powder diffraction analysis. Results revealed significant variations in magnetic susceptibility across each profile under both in situ and laboratory conditions. In situ measurements ranged from −45 × 10−5 SI to 120 × 10−5 SI, while laboratory measurements ranged from 4.00 × 10−5 SI to 99.40 × 10−5 SI. The portable Kappameter KM-7 provided satisfactory results for preliminary investigations, while the Bartington MS2B System demonstrated high precision in analyzing these variations in detail. These findings support the potential for further investigations into magnetic susceptibility in karst cave environments, with an emphasis on understanding depositional history and the timeline of climate and tectonic changes. Three samples of aqueous magnetic fluids based on magnetite particles stabilized with double layers of surfactants have been synthesized. The samples have been stabilized with lauric and oleic acids, as well as their salts, taken in three different combinations. The viscosity of the synthesized samples has been measured as depending on the concentration, temperature, and shear rate. With increasing temperature, the viscosity of a sample of the fluid stabilized with a double layer of lauric acid does not decrease relative to the viscosity of water, as has been previously observed for classical magnetic fluids, but rather increases. For a sample stabilized with two layers of lauric and oleic acids, the temperature dependence of the relative viscosity is nonmonotonic. The relative viscosity of a sample stabilized with a double layer of oleic acid is actually independent of temperature. To determine the concentrations of the samples, measurements of magnetization curves were carried out followed by their granulometric analysis. It has been found that the dispersity of the samples remains unchanged upon dilution. The initial magnetic susceptibility of the fluid samples has been shown to increase with concentration more slowly than it has been predicted by the modified effective field model. In contrast to the effective field model (and other ones), the coefficient at the quadratic term in the expansion of the initial susceptibility in terms of the Langevin susceptibility has turned out to be significantly lower than 1/3. Zn‐substituted iron oxide nanoparticles of ≈5 nm in diameter are synthetized by a microwave‐assisted thermal decomposition method. The addition of ethylene glycol results in a size increase to 22 nm. Cationic disorder has been observed by electron energy loss spectroscopy–scanning transmission electron microscopy. Using Mössbauer spectrometry combined with Rietveld analysis, the complete cationic and vacancies repartition in the lattice is determined, as well as the canting of magnetic moments. This allows the magnetic moment to be calculated, in good agreement with that measured. The alternating current magnetic susceptibility is modeled by the Néel–Brown and the Coffey models, showing some discrepancy between these two approaches which is discussed. The largest particles show a complex morphology involving an oriented attachment mechanism of smaller units. Their cationic disorder and internal porosity have been evidenced and quantified, and the work shows that despite these defects they behave rather as magnetically blocked nanoparticles. Some rock and soil samples exhibit significant loss of magnetic susceptibility (χ) with increasing applied field amplitude even at relatively low (10–100s of A/m) fields, a behavior which remains unexplained. Exceptionally strong negative field‐dependence of susceptibility (χHD) is present in sandstones and altered intermediate‐felsic igneous rocks in several cores from the northeastern Oklahoma subsurface. These same rocks also show elevated frequency‐dependence of susceptibility (χFD), with reasonable correlation of χHD to χFD, and frequency‐dependent χHD. Results from multiple characterization methods indicate that strongly negative χHD in these rocks is linked to a yet‐unidentified phase which begins the approach to magnetic saturation in low fields (<1 mT/800 A/m), shows elevated χFD to low temperatures, is unstable at high temperatures, possesses significant anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility, and becomes paramagnetic above ∼83°C. Clear associations with fluid alteration features indicate that this material may be highly relevant to rock alteration, diagenetic, and environmental studies. Plain Language Summary: Magnetic susceptibility is usually measured using weak magnetic fields, and in many geological materials the value depends on the strength of the field used. In the low‐field range, this usually results in slightly higher susceptibility values as field strength increases. In some rocks and soils, however, susceptibility decreases with increasing applied field, which has not been explained. The lowermost sandstones and uppermost igneous rocks in the northeastern Oklahoma subsurface have been found to provide prominent examples of this "negative field‐dependence" of susceptibility. When susceptibility of the same rocks is measured using an alternating‐current field, the results are also highly dependent on the frequency of that field. The strength of these behaviors is correlated, and both are found to be associated with a yet‐unidentified magnetization carrier with an apparent Curie temperature of ∼83°C. Through direct‐current measurements, it is apparent that the negative field‐dependence is due to this mineral approaching magnetic saturation at unusually low fields relative to most natural materials. The magnetic behavior is associated with other evidence of water‐rock interaction, which may prove to be a useful indicator of chemical conditions of alteration, diagenesis, and weathering. The magnetic properties of Aurivillius-phase Bi7Fe3Ti3O21 (BFT) and Bi7−xGdxFe3Ti3O21, where x = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 (BGFT), were investigated. Ceramic material undoped (BGF) and doped with Gd3+ ions were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction. In order to confirm that the obtained materials belong to Aurivillius structures, XRD tests were performed. The XRD results confirmed that both the undoped and the gadolinium-doped materials belong to the Aurivillius phases. The qualitative chemical composition of the obtained materials was confirmed based on EDS tests. The temperature dependences of magnetization and magnetic susceptibility were examined for the ceramic material both undoped and doped with Gd3+ ions. The measurements were taken in the temperature range from T = 10 K to T = 300 K. Using Curie's law, the value of the Curie constant was determined, and on its basis, the number of iron ions that take part in magnetic processes was calculated. The value of Curie constant C = 0.266 K, while the concentration of iron ions Fe3+, which influence the magnetic properties of the material, is equal 3.7 mol% (for BFT). Hysteresis loop measurements were also performed at temperatures of T = 10 K, T = 77 K, and T = 300 K. The dependence of magnetization on the magnetic field was described by the Brillouin function, and on its basis, the concentration of Fe3+ ions, which are involved in magnetic properties, was also calculated (3.4 mol% for BFT). Tests showed that the material is characterized by magnetic properties at low temperatures. At room temperature (RT), it has paramagnetic properties. In this work, we study the magnetocaloric properties of half 5/2 and integer 3 mixed spin model on a square–hexagon «4-6» structures are studied by Monte Carlo simulations. The total magnetization and the magnetization of each sub-lattice of the mixed-spin lattice have been analyzed. The magnetic susceptibility, dM/dT and magnetic entropy changes are found. The in situ measurement of sediment transport in wave‐dominated environments presents significant challenges and currently often relies upon the use of fluorescent sediment tracers. However, this method is constrained by challenges in conducting unbiased and representative sampling, as well as facing overall logistical complexities and labour‐intensive procedures. Whilst other tracer techniques are available, such as using magnetic tracers, their performance in tracking sediment transport has not been quantified. The objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of magnetic tracers in evaluating net transport rates and tracer dispersal patterns. Conducted in a controlled large wave flume, the experiments simultaneously employed fluorescent and magnetic tracers, allowing a comprehensive comparison of the tracers' dispersion patterns and the net transport rates. Results show that the dispersal of magnetic and fluorescent tracers displays a high degree of spatial coherence in both horizontal and vertical dimensions. Similarly, net transport rates are comparable (<16% difference), both showing net transport in the direction of the wave propagation (towards onshore) driven by non‐linear and streaming effects. Magnetic tracer recovery rate (49%) was lower than for fluorescent tracers (73%) and is attributed to the loss of magnetic ink from particles; an aspect of the magnetic technique that requires improvement. This study therefore indicates that the use of magnetic tracers to quantify sediment transport is an effective method with the advantages of being significantly less labour‐intensive than using the commonly applied fluorescent sediment tracer method. SUMMARY: Magnetic susceptibility behaviour around the Verwey transition of magnetite (≈125 K) is known to be sensitive to stress, composition and oxidation. From the isotropic point (≈130 K) to room temperature, decreasing magnetic susceptibility indicates an increase in magnetocrystalline anisotropy. In this study, we present a model which numerically analyses low-temperature magnetic susceptibility curves (80–280 K) of an experimentally shocked (up to 30 GPa) and later heated (973 K) magnetite ore. To quantify variations of the transition shape caused by both shock and heating, the model statistically describes local variations in the Verwey transition temperature within bulk magnetite. For the description, Voigt profiles are used, which indicate variations between a Gaussian and a Lorentzian character. These changes are generally interpreted as variations in the degree of correlation between observed events, that is between local transition temperatures in the model. Shock pressures exceeding the Hugoniot elastic limit of magnetite ($ \ge $ 5 GPa) cause an increase in transition width and Verwey transition temperature, which is partially recovered by heat treatment. Above the Verwey transition temperature, susceptibility variations related to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy are described with an exponential approach. The room temperature magnetic susceptibility relative to the maximum near the isotropic point is reduced after shock, which is related to grain size reduction. Since significant oxidation and cation substitution can be excluded for the studied samples, variations are only attributed to changes in elastic strain associated with shock-induced deformation and annealing due to heat treatment. The shocked magnetite shows a high correlation between local transition temperatures which is reduced by heat treatment. The model allows a quantitative description of low-temperature magnetic susceptibility curves of experimentally shocked and subsequently heat-treated polycrystalline magnetite around the Verwey transition temperature. The curves are accurately reproduced within the experimental uncertainties. We have prepared and investigated superconducting equimolar medium-entropy alloys of TiZrNb and TiZrNbHf. Their basic superconducting parameters, as the values of the critical temperature Tc, upper critical magnetic field Bc2 and the superconducting energy gap Δ have been studied with the use of magnetic susceptibility and point-contact Andreev reflection (PCAR) spectroscopy measurements. Although our samples have different critical temperatures, namely Tc ∼ 8.2 K for TiZrNb and Tc ∼ 6.3 K for TiZrNbHf, their zero-temperature critical magnetic field has the same value Bc2(0) = 12 T, from the vicinity of the Clogston limit. We have observed the presence of degraded phases on the surfaces of all the investigated samples using PCAR measurements. Still, we were able to show that the bulk phase in both systems exhibits BCS weakly coupled superconductivity with 2Δ(0)/kBTc ∼ 3.5. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cations redistribution with Ce3+ substitution strongly affect the physical properties of the samples. Single phase spinel structure is identified for the synthesized samples and the crystal imperfection is found low. The lattice parameters reduce with Ce3+ concentration due to lanthanide contraction. The saturation magnetization of Mn0.5Zn0.5CexFe2−xO4 is found maximum for the x = 0 sample. The measured magnetic properties such as coercivity (Hc), retentivity (Mr) and saturation magnetization (Ms) decrease with increase in Ce3+ concentration. The synthesized samples show positive values of magnetic susceptibility which show anti-ferromagnetic/ferrimagnetic nature. The SEM images show increase in size of the grain with increasing sintering conditions parallel by significant decrease of pores, the position and the existence of tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The FT-IR spectra reveal the metal–oxygen oscillations at tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The dielectric constants are found in the range −118.6 to −242.5 at 2 MHz, which revealed moderate strain sensitivity, low ac conductivity and low dielectric loss. Metallic biomaterials, such as stainless steels, cobalt–chromium–molybdenum (Co–Cr–Mo) alloys, and titanium (Ti) alloys, have long been used as load-bearing implant materials due to their metallic mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. However, their magnetic susceptibility and elastic modulus of more than 100 GPa significantly restrict their therapeutic applicability. In this study, spinodal Zr 60 Nb 40 , Zr 50 Nb 50 , and Zr 40 Nb 60 (at.%) alloys were selected from the miscibility gap based on the Zr–Nb binary phase diagram and prepared by casting, cold rolling, and aging. Their microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, magnetic susceptibility, and biocompatibility were systematically evaluated. Spinodal decomposition to alternating nanoscale Zr-rich β 1 and Nb-rich β 2 phases occurred in the cold-rolled Zr–Nb alloys during aging treatment at 650 °C. In addition, a minor amount of α phase was precipitated in Zr 60 Nb 40 due to the thermodynamic instability of the Zr-rich β 1 phase. Spinodal decomposition significantly improved the mechanical strength of the alloys due to nanosized dual-cubic reinforcement. The Zr–Nb alloys showed an electrochemical corrosion rate of 94–262 nm per year in Hanks' solution because of formation of dense passive films composed of ZrO 2 and Nb 2 O 5 during the polarization process. The magnetic susceptibilities of the Zr–Nb alloys were significantly lower than those of commercial Co–Cr–Mo and Ti alloys. The cell viability of the Zr–Nb alloys was more than 98 % toward MC3T3-E1 cells. Overall, the spinodal Zr–Nb alloys have enormous potential as bone-implant materials due to their outstanding overall mechanical properties, extraordinary corrosion resistance, low magnetic susceptibility, and sufficient bicompatibility. Magnetic susceptibility imaging may provide valuable information about chemical composition and microstructural organization of tissue. However, its estimation from the MRI signal phase is particularly difficult as it is sensitive to magnetic tissue properties ranging from the molecular to the macroscopic scale. The MRI Larmor frequency shift measured in white matter (WM) tissue depends on the myelinated axons and other magnetizable sources such as iron‐filled ferritin. We have previously derived the Larmor frequency shift arising from a dense medium of cylinders with scalar susceptibility and arbitrary orientation dispersion. Here, we extend our model to include microscopic WM susceptibility anisotropy as well as spherical inclusions with scalar susceptibility to represent subcellular structures, biologically stored iron, and so forth. We validate our analytical results with computer simulations and investigate the feasibility of estimating susceptibility using simple iterative linear least squares without regularization or preconditioning. The basin environment is a widely studied subject in both geology and geophysics for its economic significance in energy and mineral explorations. However, the estimation of the basement depth is often a challenging task given the complexity of the basement relief and lateral physical property change. Previous works simplify the problem by only inverting for the depth to the basement, and more recent studies have suggested the need to incorporate the variation of physical properties to improve basement structure imaging. In this study, we develop an inversion method with the associated workflow to simultaneously recover both the depth to a magnetic basement and a laterally varying magnetic susceptibility in the basement rock. To achieve this, we employ a set of constraints on the inverse problem. Particularly, both the recovered susceptibility and basement depth models are bounded below a possible maximum value, and the depth model is guided by a few depth points obtained from the resistivity models that are obtained from the one‐dimensional blocky inversions of magnetotelluric (MT) data. In addition, we apply the fuzzy C‐means (FCM) clustering to the susceptibility model during the inversion and use the inverted cluster centers to differentiate for different geological units in the basement. To show the effectiveness of our work, we compare the existing approaches and our method using two test inversions on one synthetic model resembling the basin–basement environment before demonstrating our method on a field data example with magnetic data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) over the Illinois Basin. Our results show improved recovery in both basement relief and susceptibility in the basement rock, and inversion with field data is able to identify three different susceptibility zones in basement rock below the Illinois Basin. Resting cerebral perfusion metrics can be calculated from the MRI ΔR2* signal during the first passage of an intravascular bolus of a Gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA), or more recently, a transient hypoxia-induced change in the concentration of deoxyhemoglobin ([dOHb]). Conventional analysis follows a proxy process that includes deconvolution of an arterial input function (AIF) in a tracer kinetic model. We hypothesized that the step reduction in magnetic susceptibility accompanying a step decrease in [dOHb] that occurs when a single breath of oxygen terminates a brief episode of lung hypoxia permits direct calculation of relative perfusion metrics. The time course of the ΔR2* signal response enables both the discrimination of blood arrival times and the time course of voxel filling. We calculated the perfusion metrics implied by this step signal change in seven healthy volunteers and compared them to those from conventional analyses of GBCA and dOHb using their AIF and indicator dilution theory. Voxel-wise maps of relative cerebral blood flow and relative cerebral blood volume had a high spatial and magnitude congruence for all three analyses (r > 0.9) and were similar in appearance to published maps. The mean (SD) transit times (s) in grey and white matter respectively for the step response (7.4 (1.1), 8.05 (1.71)) were greater than those for GBCA (2.6 (0.45), 3.54 (0.83)) attributable to the nature of their respective calculation models. In conclusion we believe these calculations of perfusion metrics derived directly from ΔR2* have superior merit to calculations via AIF by virtue of being calculated from a direct signal rather than through a proxy model which encompasses errors inherent in designating an AIF and performing deconvolution calculations. The structural and magnetic analysis of the YFeSb 1. 2 compound synthesized by the solid-state reaction method was observed. At room temperature, the compound exhibits the ThCr2Si2-type structure with the space group of I 4 ∕ m m. Low-field DC magnetic susceptibility property of the YFeSb 1. 2 compound has been examined. An obvious oscillation of the remanent magnetization, M rem (T) with temperature was observed. The YFeSb 1. 2 compound exhibits large irreversibility at low fields below the coercivity fields due to freezing spins at low temperatures. At higher temperatures, the susceptibility obeys perfectly to modified Curie–Weiss behavior. In the present era, the fixation of atmospheric CO2 is of significant importance and plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of carbon and energy flow within ecosystems. Generally, CO2 fixation is carried out by autotrophic organisms; however, the scientific community has paid substantial attention to execute this process in laboratory. In this report, we synthesized two carbonato-bridged trinuclear copper(II) complexes, [Cu3(L1)3(μ3-CO3)](ClO4)3 (1) and [Cu3(L2)3(μ3-CO3)](ClO4)3 (2) via atmospheric fixation of CO2 starting with Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O and easily accessible pyridine/pyrazine-based N4 donor Schiff base ligands L1 and L2, respectively. Under very similar reaction conditions, the ligand framework embedded with the phenolate moiety (HL3) fails to do so because of the reduction of the Lewis acidity of the metal center, inhibiting the formation of a reactive hydroxide bound copper(II) species, which is required for the fixation of atmospheric CO2. X-ray crystal structures display that carbonate-oxygen atoms bridge three copper(II) centers in μ3syn–anti disposition in 1 and 2, whereas [Cu(HL3)(ClO4)] (3) is a mononuclear complex. Interestingly, we also isolated an important intermediate of atmospheric CO2 fixation and structurally characterized it as an anti–anti μ2 carbonato-bridged dinuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu2(L2)2(μ2-CO3)](ClO4)2·MeOH (2-I), providing an in-depth understanding of CO2 fixation in these systems. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurement suggests ferromagnetic interactions between the metal centers in both 1 and 2, and the results have been further supported by DFT calculations. The catalytic efficiency of our synthesized complexes 1–3 was checked by means of catechol oxidase and phenoxazinone synthase-like activities. While complexes 1 and 2 showed oxidase-like activity for aerobic oxidation of o-aminophenol and 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol, complex 3 was found to be feebly active. ESI mass spectrometry revealed that the oxidation reaction proceeds through the formation of complex–substrate intermediations and was further substantiated by DFT calculations. Moreover, active catalysts 1 and 2 were effectively utilized for the base-free oxidation of benzylic alcohols in the presence of air as a green and sustainable oxidant and catalytic amount of TEMPO in acetonitrile. Various substituted benzylic alcohols smoothly converted to their corresponding aldehydes under very mild conditions and ambient temperature. Superconductivity in quasicrystals poses a new challenge in condensed matter physics. We measured the resistance and ac magnetic susceptibility of a Ta1.6Te dodecagonal quasicrystal, which is superconducting below Tc ~ 1 K. We show that the upper critical field increases linearly with a large slope of − 4.4 T/K with decreasing temperature down to 0.04 K, with no tendency to level off. The extrapolated zero-temperature critical field exceeds the Pauli limit by a factor of 2.3. We also observed flux-flow resistance with thermally activated behavior and an irreversibility field that is distinct from the upper critical field. We discuss these peculiarities in terms of the nonuniform superconducting gap and spin-orbit interaction in quasicrystal structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Induced polarisation (IP) is a common geophysical method of exploration for disseminated sulphides. However, in areas with deep (>200 m) and conductive (10 Ωm or less) cover, the technique is less successful as it requires a significant transmitter source and large-offset dipoles. An alternative approach is to use natural-variations in Earth’s external magnetic field as the polarising source of the signal, known as natural-field IP. This paper presents a study of extracting IP information from electrical dipole observations during a broadband magnetotelluric (MT) program with a 9 km by 9 km grid of 100 sites above the Vulcan IOCG deposit beneath 750 m of cover, ∼40 km north of the Olympic Dam IOCG mine in South Australia. Inter-site transfer functions between 95 sites and five reference sites at the southeast and southwest corners of the grid were computed to determine a phase shift between horizontal electric fields in the bandwidth of 1–100 s period. Phase shifts of up to – 5 degrees were centred on a region of brecciated hematite where drill holes intersected pyrite, and an inferred fault-zone from passive seismics that marks the boundary between upper crust that is resistive (>100 Ω.m) with high magnetic susceptibility to the south of the fault, and a region of conductive crust (<10 Ω.m) which is low magnetic susceptibility. Our study suggests that the natural-field IP method can identify regions of polarizable minerals beneath deep cover where artificial power sources cannot be feasibly deployed. Such surveys are cheaper, safer, and easier to deploy as only receivers are required, and 3D coverage can be obtained as the source-field is of much larger dimension than the survey array. Background and purpose Methods Results Conclusion Pediatric multiple sclerosis (MS) displays different pathological features compared to adult MS, which can be studied in vivo by assessing tissue magnetic susceptibility with 3T‐MRI. We aimed to assess different white matter lesions (WMLs) phenotypes in pediatric MS patients using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and susceptibility mapping weighted imaging (SMWI) over 12 months.Eleven pediatric MS patients [female: 63.6%; mean ± standard deviation (SD) age and disease duration: 16.3 ± 2.2 and 2.4 ± 1.5; median (range) Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) 1 (0‐2)] underwent 3 Tesla‐MRI exams and EDSS assessments at baseline and after 1 year. QSM and SMWI were obtained using 3‐dimensional (3D)‐segmented echo‐planar‐imaging with submillimetric spatial resolution. WMLs were classified according to their QSM appearance and SMWI was used to identify QSM hyperintensities ascribable to veins. Total brain volumes at baseline and follow‐up were computed using high‐resolution 3D T1‐weighted images.Mean ± SD paramagnetic rim lesions (PRLs) prevalence was 7.0% ± 9.0. Fifty‐four percent (6/11) of patients exhibited at least one PRL, with one patient exhibiting ≥ 4 PRLs. All patients showed QSM‐iso‐/hypo‐intense lesions, which represented a mean ± SD of 65.8% ± 22.7 of total WMLs. QSM‐hyperintense WMLs showed a positive correlation with total brain volume reduction at follow‐up (r = 0.705; p =  .02). No lesion was classified as different between baseline and follow‐up.Chronic compartmentalized inflammation seems to occur early in pediatric MS patients with short disease duration. How does the brain process the faces of familiar people? Neuropsychological studies have argued for an area of the temporal pole (TP) linking faces with person identities, but magnetic susceptibility artifacts in this region have hampered its study with fMRI. Using data acquisition and analysis methods optimized to overcome this artifact, we identify a familiar face response in TP, reliably observed in individual brains. This area responds strongly to visual images of familiar faces over unfamiliar faces, objects, and scenes. However, TP did not just respond to images of faces, but also to a variety of high-level social cognitive tasks, including semantic, episodic, and theory of mind tasks. The response profile of TP contrasted with a nearby region of the perirhinal cortex that responded specifically to faces, but not to social cognition tasks. TP was functionally connected with a distributed network in the association cortex associated with social cognition, while PR was functionally connected with face-preferring areas of the ventral visual cortex. This work identifies a missing link in the human face processing system that specifically processes familiar faces, and is well placed to integrate visual information about faces with higher-order conceptual information about other people. Four alkyl chains and cyclohexane modified FeII complexes [Fe(Ln)(L')](ClO4)2⋅solv (n=1, 2, 3, 4) were synthesized and characterized. X‐ray diffraction study showed that these complexes were constituted by asymmetric mononuclear FeII entities, incorporating alkyl‐chain‐modified bppCOOH (2,6‐bis(1H‐pyrazol‐1‐yl)isonicotinic acid) ligands and 6,6"‐2,6‐dimethoxyphenyl‐substituted terpy ligand (L'). Magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed that complexes 1, 2, and 3 were in the high spin state across the measured temperature range, whereas complex 4 displayed an incomplete spin crossover phenomenon, with a transition temperature (T1/2) at 240 K. Investigations into variable‐temperature structure and magneto‐structural correlations revealed that the integration of alkyl‐chain‐modified bipyridyl units fostered the π⋅⋅⋅π intra‐ and intermolecular interactions, contributing to distinct crystal stacking and spatial configurations in complex 4 when compared to its counterparts. These findings underscore the pivotal influence of intramolecular interactions on the FeII spin states and highlight the significance of designing flexible ligands for modulating spin‐crossover characteristics. The use of N-(2-carboxyphenyl)salicylideneimine (saphHCOOH) and N-(4-chloro-carboxyphenyl)salicylideneimine (4ClsaphHCOOH) for the synthesis of hexanuclear {Zn II4 M III2 } (M = Cr, Fe) complexes is described. [Zn4Fe2(saphCOO)6(NO3)2(EtOH)2] (1), [Zn4Cr2(saphCOO)6(NO3)2(H2O)2] (2) and [Zn4Fe2(4ClsaphCOO)6(NO3)2(EtOH)2] (3), as 4CH2Cl2·2EtOH (1, 3) and 4MeCN·2EtOH (2) solvates, have been isolated and their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The three complexes are centrosymmetric and almost isostructural. The metal topology can be described as two isosceles triangles which are linked through phenolate oxygen atoms of two 3.2111 (Harris notation) saphCOO2−/4ClsaphCOO2− ligands, each of which bridges exclusively three ZnII atoms. Four 2.1111 ligands are also incorporated in the molecules, each bridging one MIII center and one ZnII ion. The former is chelated with the Ophenolate, Nimine and one Ocarboxylate being the donor atoms (thus forming two 6-membered chelating rings with a common MIII–N edge), while the latter is bound to the other carboxylate oxygen. The coordination spheres are of the types {FeO4N2}/{ZnO4N}/{ZnO5} for 1 and 3, and {CrO4N2}/{ZnO4N}/{ZnO4} for 2. Complexes 1–3 are the first heterometallic complexes (with any metals) based on saphHCOOH and 4ClsaphHCOOH, thus illustrating their ability for the preparation of mixed-metal molecular species. Interesting H-bonding patterns are present in the crystal structures. The IR and Raman spectra of the solid complexes are discussed in terms of the coordination modes of the ligands involved, while molar conductivity data and UV/VIS spectra in CH2Cl2 are also reported and interpreted. The δ and ΔEQ57Fe-Mössbauer parameters of 1 and 3 at 300 and 80 K indicate isolated high-spin FeIII centers. Variable-temperature (1.8–300 K) magnetic susceptibility data for 1–3 suggest a very weak exchange interaction between the MIII ions in agreement with their long distances (∼9 Å) in the molecules. The burgeoning interest in the field of molecular magnetism is to perceive the high magnetic anisotropy in different geometries of metal complexes and hence to draw a magneto-structural correlation. Despite a handful of examples to exemplify the magnetic anisotropy in various coordination geometries of mononuclear complexes, the magnetic anisotropies for two different coordination geometries are underexplored. Employing an appropriate synthetic strategy utilizing the ligand LH2 [2,2′-{(1E,1′E)-pyridine2,6-diyl-bis(methaneylylidine)}-bis(azaneylylidine)diphenol] and cobalt halide salts in a 1 : 2 stoichiometric ratio in the presence of triethylamine allowed us to report a new family of dinuclear cobalt complexes [Co II2 X2(L)(P)(Q)]·S with varying terminal halides [X = Cl, P = CH3CN, Q = H2O, S = H2O (1), X = Br, P = CH3CN, Q = H2O, S = H2O (2), X = I, P = CH3CN, and Q = CH3CN (3)]. All these complexes are characterized through single crystal X-ray crystallography, which reveals their crystallization in the monoclinic system P21/n space group with nearly identical structural features. These complexes share vital components, including Co(II) centers, a fully deprotonated ligand [L]2−, halide ions, and solvent molecules. The [L]2− ligand contains two Co(II) centers, where phenolate oxygen atoms bridge the Co(II) centers, forming a Co2O2 four-membered ring. Co1 demonstrates a distorted pentagonal-bipyramidal geometry with axial positions for solvent molecules, while Co2 displays a distorted tetrahedral geometry involving phenolate oxygen atoms and halide ions. Temperature-dependent dc magnetic susceptibility measurements were conducted on 1–3 within a range of 2 to 300 K at 1 kOe. The χmT vs. T plots exhibit similar trends, with χmT values at 300 K higher than the spin-only value, signifying a significant orbital contribution. As the temperature decreases, χmT decreases smoothly in all the complexes; however, no clear saturation at low temperatures is observed. Field-dependent magnetization measurements indicate a rapid increase below 20 kOe, with no hysteresis and a low magnetic blocking temperature. DFT and CASSCF/NEVPT2 theoretical calculations were performed to perceive the magnetic interaction and single-ion anisotropies of Co(II) ions in various ligand-field environments. The intricate nature of magnetism in uranium-based Kondo lattices is a consequence of correlations between U-5f and conduction electrons. Previously, the source of magnetism has been ascribed to either Mott physics or Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction, both of which are not fully applicable to uranium-based Kondo lattices. Using linearized quasiparticle self-consistent GW plus dynamical mean-field theory, we demonstrate a crossover from incoherent to coherent f-d Kondo cloud in the paramagnetic phase of UTe2, USbTe and USbSe. As the transition occurs, we observe an augmented f-d coherence and Pauli-like magnetic susceptibility, with a substantial frozen magnetic moment of U-5f persisting. We show that momentum dependent f-d hybridization is responsible for the magnetic moments arising from the renormalized f electrons' van Hove singularity. Our findings provide a perspective to explain the dual nature of magnetism and the long-range magnetic ordering induced by pressure in UTe2. This work aims at clarifying the puzzling magnetism of several U intermetallics, in particular the pressure-induced magnetism of UTe2. By an ab initio treatment of electronic correlations, the authors show that a momentum dependent f-d hybridization is responsible for the magnetic moments arising from the van Hove singularity of renormalized f electrons. In the processing of construction waste, the sorting of the delivered mixtures is one of the decisive process steps in order to produce recyclates that can be reused. In the fine‐grain range, there is a lack of suitable processes for this. A procedure that has not been investigated so far is to separate concrete‐mortar‐brick mixtures on the basis of the magnetic susceptibility. Based on measurements of the susceptibility, sorting experiments were carried out using a rare earth roll magnetic separator. The spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg branched chain, inspired by the magnetic structure of three isostructural polymeric coordination compounds [(Tp)2Fe2(CN)6X (bdmap)Cu2(H2O)] ⋅ H2O to be further denoted as Fe2Cu2 (Tp = tris(pyrazolyl)hydroborate, bdmapH = 1,3-bis(dimethylamino)-2-propanol, HX = acetic acid, propionic acid or trifluoroacetic acid), is rigorously studied using the transfer-matrix method. The overall ground-state phase diagram reveals three distinct phases: a quantum antiferromagnetic phase, a quantum ferrimagnetic phase and a classical ferromagnetic phase. In the zero-temperature magnetization curve, two quantum ground states are manifested as intermediate plateaus at zero and half of the saturation magnetization, while the magnetization reaches its saturated value within the classical ferromagnetic phase. The bipartite entanglement between nearest-neighbor Heisenberg spins is more pronounced in the quantum ferrimagnetic phase compared to the quantum antiferromagnetic phase due to a fully polarized nature of the Ising spins. A reasonable agreement between theoretical predictions for the spin-1/ 2 Ising-Heisenberg branched chain and experimental data measured for a temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and a low-temperature magnetization curve suggests strong antiferromagnetic coupling between nearest-neighbor Cu2+-Cu2+ magnetic ions and moderately strong ferromagnetic coupling between nearest-neighbor Cu2+-Fe3+ magnetic ions in the polymeric compounds Fe2Cu2. A thermal entanglement between nearestneighbor Cu2+-Cu2+ magnetic ions persists up to a relatively high threshold temperature T ≈ 224 K and undergoes a transient magnetic-field-driven strengthening. This study aimed to obtain the title spectra and verify the temperature dependence of δDSS of the HOD signal from D2O of the NMR sample. However, the analysis of the collected δX data, extended by the results of other closely related measurements reported in the literature, provided important guidelines for performing routine 1H/13C NMR spectra in aqueous solvents externally referenced to neat liquid TMS contained in a coaxial capillary. Therefore, it is recommended that the previously proposed correction of δX data thus determined, which is mainly due to the difference in volume magnetic susceptibility χv between the sample and the external standard used, usually called the bulk magnetic susceptibility (BMS) correction, has been increased by +0.05 ppm (7%). The new value of this correction, +0.73 ppm, based on NMR experiments carried out at a standard temperature of 25°C, was confirmed in a classical approach using critically reviewed χm, χM, and ρ data for TMS, D2O, and H2O. The BMS correction for H2O solutions is +0.75 ppm. Important issues concerning magnetic susceptibility measurements for D2O and H2O, coaxial bulb‐ended inserts, and the geometry of two‐tube NMR cells (shape factor αav) are also critically discussed here, partly from a historical perspective.
