With significant recent progress in the thin film deposition and nanofabrication technology, a number of physical phenomena occur at the interfaces of magnetic thin films, and their heterostructures have been discovered. Consequently, the electric field-induced modulation of those interfacial properties mediated through spin–orbit coupling promises to develop magnetic material based smarter, faster, miniaturized, energy efficient spintronic devices. Among them, the electric field-induced modification of interfacial magnetic anisotropy, popularly termed as voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA), has attracted special attention because of its salient features. This article is devoted to reviewing the recent development of magnonics, which deals with collective precessional motion of ordered magnetic spins, i.e., spin waves (SWs), and skyrmions with chiral spin textures, with VCMA, including the perspectives of this research field. Starting with a broad introduction, the key features of VCMA and its advantages over other electric field-induced methods are highlighted. These are followed by describing the state-of-the-art of VCMA, and various other direct and indirect electric field-induced methods for magnetization reversal; controlling skyrmion dynamics; excitation, manipulation, and channeling of SWs; and tailoring magnonic bands. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) in magnetic thin films has attracted much attention due to its potential applications in spintronics devices. Here, we report the continuous strain-mediated PMA in epitaxial (111) CoFe 2 O 4 (CFO) thin films grown on (0001) LiTaO 3 substrates. A large variation in lattice strain (∼ 0.9 %) in a continuous way is realized in the CFO thin films by changing substrate temperature during deposition due to the difference in the thermal expansion coefficient between CFO and LiTaO 3. As a result, the PMA of the (111) CFO thin films can be continuously mediated by the strain with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy energy in the range of 0.12 - 14.69 × 10 6 erg/cm 3. Furthermore, the strain as well as the consequent PMA in the (111) CFO thin films can be maintained within the thickness of 25–205 nm, which is consistent with the scenario of the magnetoelastic effect. Our results reveal that the CFO/LiTaO 3 system can be regarded as an ideal platform to realize robust PMA and its continuous strain tuning in the (111) CFO thin films by virtue of strain-induced magnetic anisotropy. A numerical model describing a magnonic active ring oscillator (MARO) based on a microscopic spin-wave delay line is proposed. The model considers excitation, propagation, and reception of the magnetostatic surface waves in a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) magnetic film with a thickness in the nanometer range. The waves are excited and received with a microscopic coplanar antenna. We employed the model to analyze the influence of the YIG-film thickness and the distance between the antennas on the MARO performance characteristics. We showed that an increase in the delay time inserted by the delay line reduces the phase noise of the MARO and increases the auto-oscillation threshold. In addition, we found a relation between the auto-oscillation threshold, the thickness of the YIG film, and the distance between the antennas. The relation helps design miniature MAROs and suggests a way to reduce the phase noise of the device. The model predicts a phase noise level of −115 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset from an oscillation frequency in the vicinity of 5 GHz for the MARO based on a 100 nm-thick YIG film and 56 μm of distance between the coplanar nano-antennas of the YIG-film based delay line. We believe that this is a clear way forward to microminiaturize the time-delay feedback microwave auto-oscillators. A further reduction in the phase noise down to −125 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset is found in a model of cascaded connection of several microscopic spin-wave delay lines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rare-earth iron garnets (REIGs) are the benchmark systems for magnonics, including the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect (LSSE). While most research has focused on single-crystalline REIGs on complimentary garnet substrates, moving to more, cost-effective complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS)-compatible substrates is important to integrate REIG thin films with existing technology. In this regard, we grow a 130 nm-thick polycrystalline gadolinium iron garnet (GdIG) film on the Si/SiO2 substrate and investigate the temperature-dependent LSSE. Interestingly, the polycrystalline GdIG film exhibits perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) at room temperature which is induced by tensile in-plane (IP)-strain originating from the thermal-expansion mismatch between the GdIG film and the substrate during rapid thermal annealing. Further, a spin-reorientation transition from the out-of-plane IP direction below TS = 180 K is observed. Additionally, the film reveals a magnetic compensation temperature, T Comp , of ≈240 K. The LSSE voltage not only demonstrates a sign-inversion around T Comp , but also shows noticeable changes around T S. As compared to a single-crystalline GdIG film, the lower LSSE voltage for the polycrystalline GdIG is attributed to the higher effective magnetic anisotropy and enhanced magnon scattering at the grain boundaries. Our study not only paves the way for the cost-effective growth of CMOS-compatible REIG-based systems with PMA for magnonic memory and information processing applications, but also highlights the fact that the spincaloritronic and spin-insulatronic properties of the polycrystalline REIGs follow those of their single-crystalline counterparts with reduced spin-to-charge conversion efficiency through LSSE which can be tuned further by controlling the average gran size and interface engineering. High Chern number topological insulators can be obtained in a film of layered magnetic block system theoretically and experimentally. With nonzero Chern numbers, Chern insulators become valuable for fundamental topological physics and for improving next-generation electronic devices. We study energy and angular momentum radiation from layered topological insulators using the Dirac Fermion approach and by Green's function method. We make a connection between radiation magnitude and topological phase transitions. We find that the magnetic exchange field, intra-layer coupling, and inter-layer interaction are efficient measures to modify the energy radiation of layered topological materials. Moreover, the magnetic exchange field is indispensable for emitting angular momentum due to the need for breaking time-reversal symmetry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we systematically investigated the anomalous Nernst effect in perpendicularly magnetized amorphous TbFeCo thin films with various compositions. It was found that the magnitude of the off diagonal thermopower (ODT), which corresponds to the anomalous Nernst effect, can be uniformly explained with respect to the Tb content regardless of the concentration above or below the compensation composition. The maximum ODT of 1.3 μ V/K and the thermoelectric conductivity of 1.59 A/mK at room temperature were obtained, which is more significant than other perpendicular magnetic anisotropy thin films to achieve a large Nernst voltage for roll-type thermoelectric devices. By considering the thermoelectric tensor, Mott's equation, and the scaling law, it was shown both experimentally and theoretically that the magnitudes of the first and second terms contributing to the anomalous Nernst effect are comparable. It was also found that the ODT of TbFeCo thin films is twice or more significant than the product of the Seebeck coefficient and the Hall angle. Furthermore, amorphous metals and Mn-alloys with a large Berry curvature are located above the relation that the ODT is twice the product of the Seebeck coefficient and the Hall angle, which means that amorphous metals are expected to enhance the ANE. This study investigates the out-of-plane magnetization component of electrodeposited Ni90Fe10 thin films grown under different applied magnetic field conditions. The formation of stripe domains is gradual, as there is a thickness range in which the transcritical shape appears in the hysteresis loops, while only magnetic ripples are measured in the magnetic force microscopy images. For instance, samples deposited under the residual magnetic field generated by the switched-off magnetic stirrer exhibit the transcritical shape in the in-plane hysteresis loops at a thickness of 400 nm, even though corresponding magnetic force microscopy images do not reveal the presence of stripe domains. When a perpendicular magnetic field of 100 Oe is applied during growth, stripe domains become visible in microscopy images, along with the transcritical shape in the hysteresis loop at 400 nm. This implies that the critical thickness for stripe formation can be reduced by applying a perpendicular magnetic field during electrodeposition. We have experimentally confirmed that the larger the magnetic field applied in the out-of-plane direction during growth, the smaller the critical thickness. These results underscore the importance of controlling the external magnetic field during electrodeposition for more effective tuning of the magnetic textures in electrodeposited Ni90Fe10 films. Engineering stoichiometry and lattice field in transition metal oxides (TMOs) is recognized as a promising approach for achieving emergent functional properties and exploring fundamental scientific questions. To overcome the constraints of rigid epitaxial TMOs, this study releases and transfers freestanding SrTiO 3-δ (STO 3-δ) membranes, derived using a water-dissolution method from STO 3-δ /Sr 3 Al 2 O 6 /SrTiO 3 , onto flexible polyimide. In-plane mechanical strains were then applied to investigate the strain evolution-induced ferromagnetism. Continuous strain modulates interplane and intraplane exchange interactions between neighboring atoms in the ferromagnetic STO 3-δ membranes, thereby influencing their ferromagnetic properties. STO 3-δ initially undergoes in-plane octahedral distortion when strain is less than 1.5 %, followed by a decrease in the out-plane lattice constant. This structural variation leads to complex strain-dependent behaviors in the saturation magnetic moment (M s) and coercive field (H c) of STO 3-δ , with M s and H c exhibiting a nonlinear, volcano-shaped, and step-wise correlation, respectively. Our research demonstrates that freestanding STO 3-δ serves as a platform for studying local defects and their impacts on tunable magnetic properties, greatly enhancing our understanding of t 2g electron engineering through modulable inter/intra plane exchange coupling with lattice field. This paper presents a study on the microstructure and magnetic properties of LaCoO 3 (LCO) thin films, and also the micropatterning of LCO thin films using a novel photo-sensitive sol-gel lithography method. It is found that higher heat-treatment temperature can promote the healing of cracks and filling of pores, resulting in refining the grains, and improving the density of LCO film. The film treated at 850 °C has a larger nucleation energy, which makes the distribution of nucleation sites more uniform, promoting the healing of cracks and filling of pores, refining the grains, and improving the density of LCO film. LCO precursor sol, metal chelates with UV photosensitivity were synthesized by adding BzAcH photosensitizer. LCO micro-arrays with diameters of 50 μm, as well as other fine patterns with a minimum line width of about 2 μm were successfully prepared by a UV mask lithography technique. In contrast, our novel lithography method eliminates the need for photoresist, as the fine pattern is formed during the preparation of the LCO gel film, which is the advantages of our lithography method over traditional techniques. Gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) texture features offer a powerful technique for image analysis in various fields, including medical diagnostics and material classification. This research investigates their efficacy in classifying CoCr-based magnetic thin films—Co84Cr16, Co80Cr16Pt4, Co80Cr16Ta4, and Co76Cr16Ta4Pt4—using energy-filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM) images. The raw EFTEM images were preprocessed to divide into variable quantities of equal segments (9, 18, or 36), leading to three distinct training and testing sets. Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were employed, achieving accuracies exceeding 85%. Besides the accuracy metric, the ML models underwent a comprehensive evaluation using precision, recall, F1-score for each class, and 10-fold cross-validation. Furthermore, a comparative study between the LightGBM and ANN models was performed by conducting feature importance analysis using SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). Notably, both ML models exhibit an accuracy of over 85%. Furthermore, the strategic segmentation of images into 18 equal pieces yielded 100% accuracy using the ANN model. The research delves into the nuanced dynamics surrounding the impact of training and testing set size on the model's performance. Finally, the feature importance analysis via SHAP identifies pivotal contributors, accentuating the ANN model's adeptness in leveraging a broader spectrum of features for pattern identification and underscoring the effectiveness of neural network-based models in navigating the intricate landscape of image classification tasks. PVDF polymer dielectrics, renowned for their ultra-high-power density, ultra-fast response times, remarkable toughness, and lightweight properties, constitute the essential material foundation for the development of dielectric capacitors. Nevertheless, the low-energy density of these dielectrics presents a challenge to the advancement of dielectric capacitors. In this paper, in the process of preparing monolayer pure PVDF dielectric films by the solution casting method, a fixed-direction magnetic field and a rotating magnetic field were introduced in the horizontal direction, respectively, and this investigation explores the impact of magnetic field modulation on the polymer films' free-volume pore size, grain size, phase structure, dielectric properties, and energy storage capabilities by altering the duration and orientation of the magnetic field's influence. This study also discusses how microscopic alterations, particularly in the free-volume pore size, affect the macroscopic dielectric properties. Polymer films treated with a magnetic field of constant orientation for 3 min were obtained with the smallest free-volume hole size of 2.91 Å, the highest γ-phase contents of 54.8%, the smallest grain size of 68 Å, the largest electrical displacement of 10.64 and a very high discharge energy density of 12.68 J/cm3 (a 200% enhancement over pure PVDF). In this study, we employed a high‐frequency‐driven thin‐film magnetic sensor to precisely measure the magnetic near field with enhanced spatial resolution, a challenge often faced by conventional loop antennas. Our study introduced an innovative approach utilizing this magnetic sensor to assess the magnetic near field in wireless power transfer systems, comparing its performance against that of a loop antenna. Our findings demonstrate that the magnetic sensor achieves its peak signal‐to‐noise ratio at a DC bias field of 4.7 Oe and carrier frequency of 0.5 GHz, boasting a detection limit for magnetic fields of ~0.4 A/m. Moreover, the magnetic field trend measured by the magnetic sensor closely aligns with simulation results, exhibiting sharper changes around the center compared to the loop antenna. These results highlight the superior sensitivity and spatial resolution of the magnetic sensor over conventional loop antennas. Efficient electrical control of magnetic property is critical for the development of various spintronics. However, traditional magnetoelectric devices require adoption of piezoelectric component, resulting in complicated device architecture and complex conditioning circuit. More importantly, traditional strain-mediated magnetoelectric structures could not be developed in flexible form due to the existence of magnetostrictive component, which could be easily affected by mechanical deformation in flexible devices. Here we have systematically investigated pure current control of the magnetic properties of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 thin films. Ferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase transition has been realized with a small current density of 5.2 × 103 A/cm2, which is three orders smaller than the working current density of spintronics based on spin-orbit torque and spin-transfer torque. The effective tuning of magnetic property has been attributed to the current induced Joule heating effect. For La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 film grown on flexible Mica with a smaller thermal conductivity, dramatic change of ferromagnetic resonance field of 1340 Oe and nonvolatile magnetization switching have been achieved with an ultra-small current density of 7.4 × 102 A/cm2. These results represent a crucial step towards effective electrical control of both static and dynamic magnetic properties in flexible magnetic thin films and open a new avenue for exploring electrical controlled flexible spintronics. Magnetic soap films under the forcing of an inhomogeneous magnetic field are governed by a wide range of interconnected physics. The study of magnetic soap films requires the development of comprehensive models to support experimental observations. In this study, the thin film approximation is applied to the Navier–Stokes equations to derive a model for the film thickness of magnetic soap films that incorporates the effects of interfacial mobility, surfactant transport and magnetite nanoparticle (NP) transport. This derived model consists of a coupled system of equations for the film thickness, interfacial velocity, interfacial surfactant concentration and magnetite NP concentration. Simulations are performed for both soap films and magnetic soap films by solving the system of equations using the Galerkin finite element method, and results are compared with experiments. Simulation results highlight that interfacial flows can dominate the rate of film thinning and that accounting for the dependence of the magnetisation on the local magnetite NP concentration can influence the predicted speed of magnetically driven flows. Furthermore, simulation results demonstrate that the model is able to predict marginal regeneration in qualitative agreement with the experiments for soap films; the model also predicts the same flow pattern as seen in the experiments for magnetic soap films. Overall, this study advances the state of soap film and magnetic soap film modelling and will contribute to acquiring control over the drainage and stability of magnetic soap films in the long term. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) is a broadly used dynamical measurement used to characterize a wide range of magnetic materials. Applied research and development on magnetic thin film materials is growing rapidly alongside a growing commercial appetite for magnetic memory and computing technologies. The ability to execute high-quality, fast FMR surveys of magnetic thin films is needed to meet the demanding throughput associated with rapid materials exploration and quality control. Here, we implement optimal Bayesian experimental design software developed by [McMichael et al. J. Res. Natl. Inst. Stand. Technol. 126, 126002 (2021)] in a vector network analyzer-FMR setup to demonstrate an unexplored opportunity to accelerate FMR measurements. A systematic comparison is made between the optimal Bayesian measurement and the conventional measurement. Reduced uncertainties in the linewidth and resonance frequency ranging from 40% to 60% are achieved with the Bayesian implementation for the same measurement duration. In practical terms, this approach reaches a target uncertainty of ±5 MHz for the linewidth and ±1 MHz for the resonance frequency in 2.5× less time than the conventional approach. As the optimal Bayesian approach only decreases random errors, we evaluate how large systematic errors may limit the full advantage of the optimal Bayesian approach. This approach can be used to deliver gains in measurement speed by a factor of 3 or more and as a software add-on has the flexibility to be added on to any FMR measurement system to accelerate materials discovery and quality control measurements, alike. ZnO films grown on a glass substrate through the magnetron sputtering were subjected to ion implantation of Ni+ and Ag+with different irradiation doses. The resulting ZnO: Ag and ZnO: Ni films were studied using optical and magneto-optical spectroscopy. Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra for the samples were analyzed along with MCD spectra for nickel and silver nanoparticles (NPs). The MCD data for Co-doped ZnO films was also considered. It has been found that MCD spectrum shape reflects different polarization states of charge carriers in the samples, as well as their magnetic behavior. In addition, it has been established that MCD spectroscopy can serve as a tool for the detection of Ni and Ag nanoparticles in matrices of ZnO: Ni and ZnO: Ag solid solutions. The general pattern of the MCD spectra observed for doped ZnO films in various magnetic and polarized states is expected to apply to other dilute oxides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Changes in the microwave permeability of permalloy films with an increase in the film thickness are studied. Measurement data on the evolution of microwave permeability with film thickness are analyzed in the framework of a model for the film with a regular stripe domain structure and out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy. A correlation between the microwave magnetic properties and magnetic structure of permalloy films is established. It is demonstrated that the observed decrease in the ferromagnetic resonance frequency and the static permeability with a growth in the film thickness can ascribed to the appearance of perpendicular anisotropy and the formation of a stripe domain structure. The calculated dependences of the ferromagnetic resonance frequency and static permeability on the film thickness are in reasonable agreement with the measurement results. Based on the analysis of these dependences, the domain width in the permalloy films is estimated. It is found that for thick permalloy films, the domain width is of the order of the film thickness. Soft magnetic films play a crucial role in numerous technological applications, such as magnetoelectronics, telecommunications, and magnetic recording, and the tuning of properties to obtain high-efficiency demands searching new materials and controlling thickness and compositions. In this regard, we report a systematic investigation of structural, morphological, electrical resistivity, and temperature-dependent magnetic properties of single-layer amorphous Fe70Co15Zr7B5Cu3 HITPERM (t = 5–100 nm) films deposited on a low-cost thermally oxidized Si substrate. Structural studies (XRD and TEM) reveal an amorphous nature in all as-deposited films. Surface morphology shows that the average roughness increases with increasing t up to 50 nm and then decreases at higher thicknesses. The electrical resistivity decreases rapidly as t increases from 5 to 10 nm and then is invariant for films with t ≥ 30 nm. Interestingly, the variation of resistivity follows the Boltzmann fitting. These films exhibit tunable magnetic properties between soft (t < 20 nm) and semi-hard (20 nm < t < 70 nm) properties with rectangular-type magnetic hysteresis loops having ~ 100% remanence ratios (Mr/Ms), low coercivity (Hc < 2.5 kA/m), and low saturation magnetic field (Hs < 3 kA/m) for t ≤ 70 nm. Transcritical hysteresis loop with a large Hc > 6.7 kA/m, high Hs > 26.5 kA/m, and reduced Mr/Ms ~ 55% is observed for t = 100 nm film. High-temperature thermomagnetization curves display two magnetic phase transitions (TC) corresponding ferromagnetic state to a paramagnetic state of the amorphous phase (at 820 K during warming) and nanocrystalline phase (at 1003 K during cooling). The observed results of HITPERM films with large TC naturally make it a potential choice for applications not only in magnetoelectronics at room temperature but also for aircraft power devices at higher temperatures. With the advent of Big Data, traditional digital computing is struggling to cope with intricate tasks related to data classification or pattern recognition. To mitigate this limitation, software‐based neural networks are implemented, but they are run in conventional computers whose operation principle (with separate memory and data‐processing units) is highly inefficient compared to the human brain. Brain‐inspired in‐memory computing is achieved through a wide variety of methods, for example, artificial synapses, spiking neural networks, or reservoir computing. However, most of these methods use materials (e.g., memristor arrays, spintronics, phase change memories) operated with electric currents, resulting in significant Joule heating effect. Tuning magnetic properties by voltage‐driven ion motion (i.e., magnetoionics) has recently emerged as an alternative energy‐efficient approach to emulate functionalities of biological synapses: potentiation/depression, multilevel storage, or transitions from short‐term to long‐term plasticity. In this perspective, the use of magnetoionics in neuromorphic applications is critically reviewed, with emphasis on modulating synaptic weight through: 1) control of magnetization by voltage‐induced ion retrieval/insertion; and 2) control of magnetic stripe domains and skyrmions in gated magnetic thin films adjacent to solid‐state ionic supercapacitors. Magnetic encoders are composed of a magnetic sensor, a hard magnetic recording medium and a signal processing circuit. Electrodeposited micro-magnet arrays produced by micro-fabrication are promising recording media for enhancing encoder performance. However, two major engineering issues have yet to be resolved. One issue is an unknown relationship between the feature sizes of micro-magnet arrays and their stray field shapes, and another issue is the formation of micro-cracks due to the built-up residual stresses of thick films. In this study, we investigated the effect of feature sizes on the emanating stray field shape at various observation heights. Feature sizes include two height (i.e., film thickness) values of 78 μm and 176 μm, and both width and spacing with three values of 360 μm, 520 μm and 680 μm. Ultrasound-assisted agitation was adopted for investigating the effects of electrodepositing current densities on the film crystalline microstructures and magnetic properties. Narrowing the width of micro-magnets helps the stray field to become a sinusoidal profile. Thinner film, i.e., thickness 78 μm in this study, supports the stray field taking on a sinusoidal profile. Moreover, the spacing between the micro-magnets plays a key factor in determining the shape of the stray field. Under 37 kHz/156 W ultrasound agitation, the optimal hard magnetic properties of electrodeposited CoMnP films are residual magnetization 2329 G and coercivity 968 Oe by a current density of 10.0 mA/cm2. Ultrasound-assisted electrodeposition, along with duly designed feature size, facilitates the micro-magnet arrays having a sinusoidal stray field shape using high quality films. Furthermore, for the first time, a systematic understanding of feature-size-dependent stray field evolution and improved polarities quality has been realized for the recording media of sinusoidal magnetic encoders. This paper reports the systematic study on the structure, magnetic properties and magnetoelastic properties for the Fe100− x Ga x (001) thin films epitaxially grown on the different substrates of GaAs(001) and MgO(001) using the sputtering technique. The alloy composition dependence of effective magnetoelastic coupling coefficient B eff along the FeGa [110] direction indicated that the largest magnetoelastic coupling was obtained for the Fe–Ga layer with x = 30 grown on the MgO substrate, which was evaluated to be B eff = − 9.4 × 107 erg cm−3. Considering the results of structural analysis and magnetization measurement, the different crystallite sizes depending on the kind of substrate may give rise to the different magnetoelastic coupling strengths between the Fe–Ga layers on the MgO and the GaAs. The magnetostriction along the Fe–Ga [111] direction λ 111 was also estimated with the assumption of plausible elastic property of Fe–Ga, and showed the values comparable to the reported value of bulk Fe–Ga. This means the large magnetostriction can be obtained even for the Fe–Ga thin films epitaxially grown not only on the GaAs(001) but also on the MgO(001). Increasing the efficiency of spin–orbit torque (SOT) is of great interest in applications for magnetic random access memory and logic devices due to decreased energy consumption. Here, we present that the SOT efficiency of Pt/Co/Ta films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy can be improved by swift high-energy heavy Fe11+ ion irradiation, which is an effective method to alter crystallinity, interface roughness, and defects in ferromagnet/heavy metal heterostructures. Specifically, the Pt/Co/Ta films show an optimal SOT efficiency at ion fluence around 1.0 × 1013 ions/cm2 with the largest spin Hall angles reaching 0.59, which is the largest improvement of spin Hall angle by ion irradiation compared to previous studies using light ions. We demonstrate that the increase in SOT efficiency arises from structural changes in the Pt layer due to ion irradiation-induced damage effects at proper fluence, while the decrease in SOT efficiency is mainly attributed to the restoration of Pt crystallinity induced by beam-heating effects at high fluence. This work demonstrates that an appropriate ion irradiation process could improve the SOT efficiency and the spin Hall angle, thereby providing a way to develop future SOT-based spintronic devices. We investigated the magnon hybridization behavior in FeNi films, which were deposited on the yttrium-iron garnet (YIG) films by using Brillouin light scattering. Nonreciprocal magnon hybridizations have been detected not only on the mode densities but also the dispersion relations. The perpendicular standing spin wave mode confined in the thickness direction hybridized with the top surface magnetostatic surface spin wave at smaller wave vectors range while hybridized with the bottom surface mode at larger wave vectors range. The dipolar interaction between the FeNi layer and the YIG layer should be the main reason for the nonreciprocal hybridization of the two modes in the FeNi layer. The nonreciprocal hybridization characteristics of FeNi/YIG double-layer magnetic films enrich the nonreciprocal magnon hybridization system and might have potential application in constructing spin wave-based devices. Blade coating is a process that applies a fluid to a surface using a fixed blade. Among various coating technologies, blade coating offers significant economic advantages. It is commonly employed in the production of paper, information preservation, the application of coloring agents, and the manufacture of photographic films and magnetic storage devices. The novelty of this work lies in the investigation of the blade coating process for an electrically conducting Oldroyd 4‐constant liquid, incorporating velocity slippage at the blade surface in an area previously underexplored. The mathematical equations are modeled with the use of Lubrication Approximation Theory (LAT) and the normalized equations of the Oldroyd 4‐constant fluid are numerically solved by the Matlab built‐in function bvp4c using Regula‐Falsi Method. The impact of sundry parameters on physical quantities is examined through graphical representation. It is noted from the theoretical results that for the fixed value of the MHD parameter (M = 2.5), the coating thickness and blade load increased by 31% and 1648% respectively, for plane coater. For the exponential coater, these values increased by 29% and 1618% from their Newtonian value. These findings offer new insights into optimizing the blade coating process for complex fluid systems. The vast high entropy alloy (HEA) composition space is promising for discovery of new material phases with unique properties. This study explores the potential to achieve rare‐earth‐free high magnetic anisotropy materials in single‐phase HEA thin films. Thin films of FeCoNiMnCu sputtered on thermally oxidized Si/SiO2 substrates at room temperature are magnetically soft, with a coercivity on the order of 10 Oe. After post‐deposition rapid thermal annealing (RTA), the films exhibit a single face‐centered‐cubic phase, with an almost 40‐fold increase in coercivity. Inclusion of 50 at.% Pt in the film leads to ordering of a single L10 high entropy intermetallic phase after RTA, along with high magnetic anisotropy and 3 orders of magnitude coercivity increase. The sensor that simultaneously perceives bending strain and magnetic field has the potential to detect the finger bending state and hand position of the human and robot. Based on unique magneto-mechanical coupling effect of magnetostrictive materials, the proposed a bi-perceptive flexible sensor, consisting of the Co–Fe film and magnetic sensing plane coils, can realize dual information perception of strain/magnetic field through the change of magnetization state. The sensor structure and interface circuit of the sensing system are designed to provide high sensitivity and fast response, based on the input–output characteristics of the simulation model. An asynchronous multi-task deep learning method is proposed, which takes the output of the position task as the partial input of the bending state task to analyze the output information of the sensor quickly and accurately. Modern lab-on-a-chip and microfluidic technologies offer opportunities in developing portable cell culture platforms for growing and analyzing the behavior of living cells. We have proposed the magnetomicrofluidic chips, as a novel single-cell analysis tool, composed of microfluidic microchambers and microchannels overlaid on magnetic thin films designed to precisely transport magnetized single cells and magnetic particles with the help of hybrid hydrodynamic and magnetic forces. In order to provide the optimal temperature for the cells to grow on the chip, here we propose an on-chip microincubator at the single-cell level, without the need for a conventional incubator. An electronic circuit is used to read the chip temperature and control it with a feedback system. We perform finite element methods analysis to study the chip temperature profile, based on which the final chip is designed. We show that experimental results agree well with the simulation results. Using the proposed chip and the on-chip incubator, we transport thousands of single cells into the microchambers, culture them, and demonstrate their proper proliferation. The introduced chip can be used in crucial applications, such as drug screening, in which long-term study of the cells under a microscope, at the single-cell level, is required. Magnetic fluid and magnetorheological fluid are two of the most effective magnetic media seals, yet the sealing effectiveness of both has not been compared systematically. To investigate the differences between magnetic fluid and magnetorheological fluid seals, a comparative experimental device is proposed to study the sealing mechanism and performance of the two sealing media at different temperatures. Numerical simulation is used to study the magnetic field distribution of the comparative experimental device and calculate the theoretical pressure resistance (PR) of the two sealing media, respectively. The correctness of the theoretical PR formula of the magnetic media seals with additional temperature coefficient is verified by the comparative experimental results. The results show that the number of resumptions of the magnetorheological fluid film decreases with increasing temperature, while the magnetic fluid film consistently undergoes only one recovery. In addition, the self-healing capability and PR of magnetorheological fluid seals are better than that of magnetic fluid seals, and it is less affected by temperature and has stronger temperature adaptability. We derive four reduced two-dimensional models that describe, at different spatial scales, the micromagnetics of ultrathin ferromagnetic materials of finite spatial extent featuring perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and interfacial Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction. Starting with a microscopic model that regularizes the stray field near the material's lateral edges, we carry out an asymptotic analysis of the energy by means of Γ -convergence. Depending on the scaling assumptions on the size of the material domain versus the strength of dipolar interaction, we obtain a hierarchy of the limit energies that exhibit progressively stronger stray field effects of the material edges. These limit energies feature, respectively, a renormalization of the out-of-plane anisotropy, an additional local boundary penalty term forcing out-of-plane alignment of the magnetization at the edge, a pinned magnetization at the edge, and, finally, a pinned magnetization and an additional field-like term that blows up at the edge, as the sample's lateral size is increased. The pinning of the magnetization at the edge restores the topological protection and enables the existence of magnetic skyrmions in bounded samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thin films of FePtCo ternary alloy with 100 nm thickness have been deposited on an Si substrate using a DC magnetron sputtering system by co-sputtering of Co metal target and Fe40Pt60 alloy target in three different conditions, i.e. as-deposited at room temperature, annealed at 400 °C ${}_{}^ \circ C$ ∘ C , and deposited on the seed- layer. The effects of target sputtering power, leading to different compositions and various deposition conditions on surface roughness of films and magnetic properties, were studied. The average surface roughness of the as-deposited films decreases with the increase in the sputtering power of the Co target. For the annealed and seed-layered films, an increase in Co sputtering power resulted in an increased in roughness. Moreover, the annealed films possess smallerlower roughness due to an increase in the surface mobility. On the other hand, the Cu seed- layer decreases the roughness by preventing the diffusion of the film into the substrate. The room -temperature M-H measurement shows that the films exhibit soft ferromagnetism with coercivity in the order of ${10^3}$ 10 3 A/m and large saturation magnetizationmagnetisation of the order ${10^6}$ 10 6 A/m. The saturation magnetizationmagnetisation decreases with the increase in the sputtering power and is not influenced by the film surface roughness. On the other hand, riseincrease in surface roughness leads to decrease in coercivity of the films. The evolution process of magnetic domains in response to external fields is crucial for the modern understanding and application of spintronics. In this study, we investigated the domain rotation in stripe domain films of varying thicknesses by examining their response to microwave excitation in four different orientations. The resonance spectra indicate that the rotation field of stripe domain film under an applied magnetic field approaches the field where the resonance mode of sample changes. The saturation field of the stripe domain film corresponds to the field where the resonance mode disappears when measured in the stripe direction parallel to the microwave magnetic field. The results are reproducible and consistent with micromagnetic simulations, providing additional approaches and techniques for comprehending the microscopic mechanisms of magnetic domains and characterizing their rotation. The interplay of lattice, electronic, and spin degrees of freedom at epitaxial complex oxide interfaces provides a route to tune their magnetic ground states. Unraveling the competing contributions is critical for tuning their functional properties. The relationship between magnetic ordering and magnetic anisotropy and the lattice symmetry, oxygen content, and film thickness in compressively strained LaMnO3 (LMO)/LaCrO3 (LCO) superlattices is investigated. Mn–O–Cr antiferromagnetic superexchange interactions across the heterointerface result in a net ferrimagnetic magnetic structure. Bulk magnetometry measurements reveal isotropic in‐plane magnetism for as‐grown oxygen‐deficient thin samples due to equal fractions of orthorhombic a+a‐c‐, and a‐a+c‐ twin domains. As the superlattice thickness is increased, in‐plane magnetic anisotropy emerges as the fraction of the a+a‐c‐ domain increases. On annealing in oxygen, the suppression of oxygen vacancies results in a contraction of the lattice volume, and an orthorhombic to rhombohedral transition leads to isotropic magnetism independent of the film thickness. The complex interactions are investigated using high‐resolution synchrotron diffraction and X‐ray absorption spectroscopy. These results highlight the role of the evolution of structural domains with film thickness, interfacial spin interactions, and oxygen‐vacancy‐induced structural phase transitions in tuning the magnetic properties of complex oxide heterostructures. To overcome memory bottleneck issues in memory‐centric chip technologies, in‐memory computing has been considered an alternative route involving simultaneous data storage and computing in a memory network. In the context of spintronics, a memory‐in‐logic device based on spin‐transfer‐torque or spin‐orbit‐torque magnetoresistive random‐access memory, and a magnetic domain wall (DW) racetrack has been studied. To expand the functionalities of a conventional magnetic DW racetrack, the study devises a reprogrammable exchange‐biased DW racetrack with local engineering of the exchange bias field (HE) in continuous magnetic films without requiring a lithography process for specific patterning of the films. Furthermore, current‐driven and field‐driven DW motion along the exchange‐biased racetrack is demonstrated. Additionally, within the route of the locally different exchange‐biased racetrack, a gate function can be performed to guide or stop DW motion by locally tuning HE. The spontaneous formation of dynamic spiral domains, which is a type of the self-organization of a magnetic domain structure, in a thin ferromagnetic film exposed to the alternating magnetic field has been revealed in the numerical simulation within the phenomenological Ginzburg–Landau model. This simulation qualitatively reproduces the following features of the self-organization of the domain structure experimentally observed in iron garnet films: the existence of two types of spiral domains (single and double spiral domains) and the formation of the close packing of spiral domains and their chains in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. Magnetostrictive thin films, exhibit significant utility as functionalization materials for Surface acoustic wave sensors designed for magnetic field measurements. This research investigates the influence of annealing under vacuum and magnetic field at various temperatures on the magnetic properties of the FeCo/TbCo2 thin film and therefore on the sensitivity of shear and Rayleigh acoustic waveguides functionalized with these magnetic layers. The observed effects include a reduction in magnetic anisotropy field and an increase in magnetostriction. XPS and TEM coupled with EDS microanalysis provide insights into the variations in the properties of the nanostructured magnetic film. To safeguard the magnetic film, a thin layer of SiO2 is deposited on top, serving as a protective shield. The inclusion of this layer amplifies sensitivity to applied magnetic fields for modes with shear polarization while reducing sensitivity for Rayleigh mode. In ST‐cut Quartz, the shear waves become waveguided upon the incorporation of magnetic thin films, with further enhancement achieved by introducing a SiO2 layer. Rayleigh waves are evanescent modes, the penetration depth is in the order of wavelength, and the addition of SiO2 decrease the wave confinement and therefore the sensitivity. Postsynthetic, position‐selective addition of properties to materials constitutes a paradigm shifting step in materials engineering. The approach enables creation of material systems inaccessible by equilibrium and near‐equilibrium synthesis and can be applied in novel practical applications as well as fundamental physics studies over a range of length and energy scales. Ion implantation is a versatile, scalable, industry‐compatible tool, enabling the next step in this development. Herein, ion implantation is used to design and functionalize a mesoscopic magnetic architecture. A self‐supporting mask is combined with implantation of 60 keV Fe ions to create an embedded array of ≈8 μm‐wide circular ferromagnetic regions in a Pd film. The approach is contactless, free from surface residues, and requires no focusing or scanning of the beam. Magnetic properties of the array are probed with longitudinal magneto‐optic Kerr effect measurement while varying sample temperature and applied magnetic field. Microstructures are visualized with Kerr microscopy and compared to the Fe distribution measured with microbeam proton‐induced X‐Ray emission. Sample topography after implantation is obtained by atomic force microscopy, while ion beam analysis is used to probe concentration depth profiles of implanted Fe, impurities, and to investigate material mixing. Nanocrystalline NiFe thin films of 11 μm thickness have been deposited on Cu wire using an electrochemical technique in galvanostatic mode with a sodium gluconate (SG) additive in the plating solution. The SG concentration is systematically varied from 0 g/L to 80 g/L, which results in a substantial enhancement in the soft magnetic characteristics and magnetoimpedance (MI) ratio of the plated wire across a broad frequency spectrum, specifically attributed to the optimal inclusion of SG at 55 g/L. The observed improvements in magnetic softness and MI ratio are linked to the reduction in crystalline size and surface roughness and modifications in the microstructure influenced by the SG additive in the electroplating bath. Furthermore, an equivalence between experimental impedance data and the theoretical framework based on the analytical model of circumferential permeability is outlined to extract the material parameters of the permalloy magnetic films. These extracted parameters play a pivotal role, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the variation in the MI ratio as well as circumferential permeability of the thin films as a function of the SG additive concentration in the plating bath. The intricate association observed between the MI ratio and circumferential permeability suggests that the amplification of the MI ratio resulting from the inclusion of SG is linked primarily to enhancements in circumferential permeability and the incorporation of magnetic softness. Inkjet printing is a versatile and cheap technique for the fabrication of films, offering unique advantages in terms of scalability, precision, and customization. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in utilizing inkjet printing technology for the deposition of magnetic films with tailored properties. Cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) stands out due to its exceptional magnetic properties, including high coercivity, saturation magnetization, and excellent chemical stability. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the inkjet printing of cobalt ferrite magnetic films, focusing on the manufacturing process, especially on the different factors that could lead to stable multilayer depositions to achieve high thicknesses: ink solid loading, drop spacing, substrate temperature, and interlayers drying. Finally, the microstructure of the samples is investigated to identify the occurring defects after sintering between 800 and 1000 °C. The magnetic properties of the films are determined, revealing a maximum coercivity of 1.98 kOe and a magnetic saturation of 78.25 emu cm−3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cavity magnonics has become an intriguing field due to its potential to enable next‐generation technologies centered around controlling information exchange in hybrid resonant systems. Investigating the tunability of magnon‐photon coupling is key to advancing the field. Here, the observation of coupling between the first order magnon mode in a metallic thin film with a cavity photon mode is reported. An electromagnetic perturbation theory that takes account of perpendicular standing spin waves and their respective dissipation is utilized to estimate the coupling strength. The metallic thin film exhibits notably lower dissipation for the higher‐order magnon mode, which is not observed in a thin film magnetic insulator. As such, and given that metallic Kittel magnons typically exhibit lower coherence times than their insulator counterparts, the excitation and coupling to specific higher order modes could lengthen these times compared to previous observations, which may be useful for future integration into quantum devices. Magnetic thin films with fast magnetization switching and low Gilbert damping are crucial for devices working at high frequency with low power consumption. In this work, composition-controlled high-quality Fe–Ni alloy thin films were electrodeposited on ITO/glass substrates and their magnetization switching behavior was investigated using MOKE and FMR. The phase of deposited alloy transformed from FCC to mixed BCC and FCC for high Fe content films. All the deposited alloy films display granular morphology and possess soft magnetic characteristics with low coercivity (Hc < 50 Oe). Magneto-optic Kerr effect hysteresis along with simultaneous domain imaging reveals that the alloy composition influences anisotropy, domain structure, and magnetization switching process. The alloyed films exhibited fourfold surface anisotropy. The magnetization reversal in pure Fe and Ni samples occurs through stripe-like domains, whereas band and ripple-like domains were evident for the alloyed films. Fast magnetization switching within a minimum field range of ~ 3 Oe was observed for Fe25Ni75 sample. The ferromagnetic resonance measurements revealed that the Fe25Ni75 alloy films exhibit lowest Gilbert damping (α = 0.024) compared to pure Fe and Ni films. In summary, these findings offer valuable insight for tailoring the magnetic properties of Fe–Ni alloy thin films with appropriate alloy composition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The nickel-iron-cobalt film with soft magnetic properties, having a minimal magnetocrystalline anisotropy and magnetostriction are applied in the magnetic sensors with giant magnetoresistance effect. In this work, single layers of Ni76Fe11Co13, Ni66Fe16Co18, and Ni56Fe21Co23 were coated by the electrochemical method, and then the results of the structural, magnetic, and electrical evaluation were discussed. An increase in the concentration of nickel in the electrolyte solution caused a change in the chemical composition, and morphology of the layers, and also reduced the coercive field. The layer containing 66 atomic percent nickel showed the lowest coercivity and the highest saturation magnetization. The single layers of Ni66Fe16Co18 were deposited on the copper substrate at different times. The results indicated that increasing the deposition time and thickness firstly decreased the coercive field up to 17 Oe, and then increased it up to 45 Oe for the Ni66Fe16Co18 layer. Also, multilayers of [NiFeCo/Cu]30 and [NiFeCo/Cu]60 were synthesized. An increase in the number of layers from 30 to 60 revealed a decrease in the coercive field from 43.1 Oe to 38.4 Oe, as well as an increase in the Mr/Ms squareness ratio from 0.46 to 0.51. The magnetoresistance of [NiFeCo/Cu]60 and [NiFeCo/Cu]30 multilayers indicated an electrical resistance reduction of about 15% and 6%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The acoustically actuated nanomechanical magnetoelectric (ME) antennas represent a promising new technology that can significantly reduce antenna size by 1–2 orders of magnitude compared to traditional antennas. However, current ME antennas face challenges such as low antenna gain and narrow operating bandwidth, limiting their engineering applications. In this paper, we enhance the bandwidth and radiation performance of ME antennas through structural optimization, leveraging theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. Our findings indicate that optimizing the inner diameter of the ring-shaped ME antenna can elevate the average stress of the magnetic layer, leading to improved radiation performance and bandwidth compared to circular ME antennas. We establish an optimization model for the radiation performance of the ME antenna and conduct shape optimization simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics. The results of the Multiphysics field optimization align with the stress concentration theory, demonstrating a strong correlation between the radiation performance and bandwidth of the ME antenna with the average stress of the magnetic film. The resonant frequency in the thickness vibration mode is determined to be 170 MHz. Furthermore, shape optimization can enhance the bandwidth by up to 104% compared to circular ME antenna structures of the same size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Cu-Fe binary alloys exhibit severe elemental segregation, resulting in an inhomogeneous microstructure, which leads to differences in microregion magnetic properties, thus affecting their application. Employing magnetron sputtering to produce films is advantageous for achieving a consistent dispersion of Fe within the Cu matrix. Furthermore, the addition of Ni will result in a more uniform distribution of Fe and facilitate the formation of the ferromagnetic Ni3Fe phase. In this study, Cu100−xFex and Cu100−x(Ni3/4Fe1/4)x series films were prepared by magnetron sputtering technique. The magnetic properties of films are closely related to their ferromagnetic element content. An increase in the content of ferromagnetic elements leads to an improvement in the saturation magnetization (MS) strength and a decrease in the coercivity (HC). The formation of Fe-Fe pairs is more favorable for magnetic properties compared to Ni-Fe pairs. Meanwhile, by comparing with bulk alloys, the distribution of the magnetic elements severely affects the magnetic properties. Moreover, the resistivity of Cu100−xFex films (20.3–96.7 μΩ cm) is much higher than that of Cu100−x(Ni3/4Fe1/4)x films (15.6–60.6 μΩ cm), which depends on the magnetic properties. Angular-dependent magnetoresistance (ADMR) of an epitaxial Fe(001) film is investigated with current along hard and easy axes in-plane at different temperatures. The temperature dependences of ordinary magnetoresistance (OMR), anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR), and magnetocrystalline anisotropy magnetoresistance (MMR) in ADMR were determined. As temperature decreases, negative OMR and positive AMR with a twofold symmetry show increasing and decreasing amplitudes, respectively. The amplitude of MMR with twofold and fourfold symmetries is almost invariable with both temperature and magnetic field. Meantime, when current was applied at hard and easy axes, MMR contributes an anti-phase signal to ADMR. Our findings of OMR, AMR, and MMR in the Fe(001) ADMR are of great significance to the understanding of magnetoresistance in magnetic films. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report the structural, magnetic, and interfacial spin transport properties of epitaxial terbium iron garnet (TbIG) ultrathin films deposited by magnetron sputtering. High crystallinity was achieved by growing the films on gadolinium gallium garnet substrates either at high temperatures, or at room temperature followed by thermal annealing, above 750 °C in both cases. The films display large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) induced by compressive strain, and tunable structural and magnetic properties through growth conditions or the substrate lattice parameter choice. The ferrimagnetic compensation temperature (T M) of selected TbIG films was measured through the temperature-dependent anomalous Hall effect in Pt/TbIG heterostructures. In the studied films, T M was found to be between 190 and 225 K, i.e., approximately 25-60 K lower than the bulk value, which is attributed to the combined action of Tb deficiency and oxygen vacancies in the garnet lattice evidenced by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements. Sputtered TbIG ultrathin films with large PMA and highly tunable properties reported here can provide a suitable material platform for a wide range of spintronic experiments and device applications. Magneto-optical techniques are key tools for the characterization of magnetic effects at a nanoscale. Here, we present the dark-field magneto-optical Kerr effect (DFMOKE), a technique we have recently developed for the characterization of three-dimensional magnetic nanostructures. We introduce the principles of DFMOKE, based on the separation of an incident beam into multiple reflected beams when focusing on a 3D nano-geometry. We show the key modifications needed in a standard focused MOKE magnetometer to perform these measurements. Finally, we showcase the power of this method by detecting the magnetic switching of a single tilted 3D nanowire, independently from the switching of a magnetic thin film that surrounds it. We obtain independent and simultaneous switching detection of the nanowire and the film for all nanowire dimensions investigated, allowing us to estimate a magnetic sensitivity of 7 × 10−15 A m2 for DFMOKE in the setup used. We conclude the article by providing perspectives of future avenues where DFMOKE can be a very powerful characterization tool in the future investigations of 3D magnetic nanostructures. State-of-the-art THz spintronic emitters require a constant magnetic field to saturate their magnetization. We demonstrate that depositing the ferromagnetic layers at oblique incidence confines the magnetization to a chosen in-plane easy axis and maintains the saturation in the absence of an external magnetic field. We use this method to build THz emitters structured as spin valves, for which we use an external magnetic field to turn on and off the emission of THz radiation as well as to change its polarization. We are able to reproduce the THz waveforms by modeling the spin current and the THz propagation through the multilayer system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We propose an electric measurement technique for the magnetic anisotropy field of ferromagnetic thin films and their tiny patterned structures, particularly, in the case of in-plane magnetic anisotropy. This technique measures the anomalous Hall resistance by sweeping the angle or strength of the external magnetic field. The magnetic anisotropy field can be determined explicitly from the linear dependence of the Hall resistance on the angle and strength of the external magnetic field. The present technique can be applied to both ferromagnetic thin films and their patterned magnetic structures with small volumes, overcoming the signal resolution limit of conventional techniques.
