Magnetic Drug Targeting (MDT) is of particular interest to researchers because of its good loading efficiency, targeting accuracy, and versatile use in vivo. Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is a global chronic disease with a high mortality rate, and the development of more precise and effective treatments is imminent. A growing number of studies have begun to explore the feasibility of MDT in CVD, but an up-to-date systematic summary is still lacking. This review discusses the current research status of MDT from guiding magnetic fields, magnetic nanocarriers, delivery channels, drug release control, and safety assessment. The current application status of MDT in CVD is also critically introduced. On this basis, new insights into the existing problems and future optimization directions of MDT are further highlighted. Repairing the micro-scale damage of insulating materials under a strong electric field has long been a highly desired but challenging task. Among all kinds of damage, water tree damage in the insulating materials of electrical equipment and electronic devices working in humid environments has long been considered irreparable. The main challenge is that residual water prevents the healing agent from filling the water tree branch channel. To solve this problem, this work reports a magnetically targeted, water-triggered, self-healing microcapsule (MTWTSH-MC) that makes a breakthrough against water tree damage based on microfluidic techniques. Targeted microcapsules driven by a directional magnetic field are concentrated to the vulnerable area of the insulating materials, exerting very limited effects on the dielectric. When damage breaks the microcapsules, the healing agent releases and quickly fills the damage channel and then reacts with water in the air or in the branch channel of the water tree, achieving solidification of the healing agent and self-healing of the damage channels. In this way, we can realize self-perception, self-triggering, and self-healing for both mechanical damage and water tree damage in insulation materials without any external stimulation.

It remains challenging to promptly inhibit and autonomically heal electrical trees inside insulating dielectrics, which are caused by sustained strong electrical fields and substantially shorten electronic device lifetimes and even cause premature failure of electrical equipment. Therefore, we demonstrate a magnetically targeted ultraviolet (UV)-induced polymerization functional microcapsule (MTUF-MC) to endow insulating materials with physical and electrical dual-damage self-healing capabilities. Specifically, Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 and TiO 2 nanoparticles, which serve as magnetic targets and UV shields (thereby preventing the healing agent from prematurely triggering), constitute a functional microcapsule shell, ensuring a low dopant concentration and excellent self-healing ability of the epoxy composites without affecting the intrinsic performance of the matrix. By exploiting in situ electroluminescence originating from electrical trees, UV-induced polymerization of healing agent is handily triggered without any applying external stimuli to intelligently, contactlessly, and autonomously self-healing electrical trees inside insulating dielectrics.

Nanoenzymes perceive the properties of enzyme-like catalytic activity, thereby offering significant cancer therapy potential. In this study, Fe 3 O 4 @MnO 2 , a magnetic field (MF) targeting nanoenzyme with a core-shell structure, is synthesized and applied to radiation enhancement with using glucose oxidase (GOX) for combination therapy. The glucose is oxidized by the GOX to produce excess H 2 O 2 in an acidic extracellular microenvironment, following which the MnO 2 shell reacts with H 2 O 2 to generate O 2 and overcome hypoxia. Concurrently, intracellular glutathione (GSH)-which limits the effects of radiotherapy (RT)-can be oxidized by the MnO 2 shell while the latter is reduced to Mn 2+ for T 1 -weighed MRI. The core Fe 3 O 4 , with its good magnetic targeting ability, can be utilized for T 2 -weighed MRI. In summary, the work demonstrates that Fe 3 O 4 @MnO 2 , as a dual T 1 - and T 2 -weighed MRI contrast agent with strong biocompatibility, exhibits striking potential for radiation enhancement under magnetic targeting., (© 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Near-infrared (NIR)-based nanomaterials that provide efficient tumor ablation for cancer therapy have been reported. However, the issues of biocompatibility of metals or ions in inorganic nanoparticles systems such as copper and gold nanoparticles are still a matter of concern. In this study, we developed a facile and ligand-assisted co-precipitation method to synthesize biocompatible iron oxide (IO) nanocrystals with NIR absorption that provided T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images and photothermal ablation characteristics suitable for cancer theranostics. Our results showed that 150-nm particles can be synthesized and optimized by using different amounts of ligand. NIR-IO nanocrystals of this size showed high photothermal conversion efficiency (21.2%) and T2-weighted MR contrast (transverse relaxivity value approximately 141 S-1 mM-1). The NIR-IO nanocrystals showed no cytotoxicity in HT-29 colorectal cancer cells without irradiation, whereas the viability of cells that received NIR-IO nanocrystals decreased significantly after 808-nm laser irradiation. The mechanism of cell death may involve alterations in protein secondary structure and membrane permeability. For in vivo studies, 4-fold enhanced tumor accumulation was significantly observed of NIR-IO nanocrystals with a magnetic field (MF) application, resulting in a 3-fold higher T2-weighted MR signal than that produced by a commercial T2-weighted MR contrast agent (Resovist®) and excellent photothermal efficacy (approximately 53 °C) for cancer treatment.
