This study, conducted at Ege University, Odemis Vocational School, aimed to investigate the influence of poultry manure applications on the nutrient, sucrose, fructose, and glucose content of second crop onions. In this research, three onion varieties (Burgaz, Snow White, Champion), three different doses of poultry manure (20, 40, 60 t ha−1), and mineral fertilizer were employed. An unfertilized plot was employed as the control. The experiment was designed using a split-split plot arrangement and replicated three times. The analysis comprised the assessment of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), and copper (Cu) contents in samples collected from both onion leaves and bulbs. In addition, sucrose, fructose, and glucose levels in the bulb were determined. The Snow White variety contains the highest level of fructose, sucrose, and glucose compared to other varieties. In the exploration of the impact of macro-micro element contents in bulbs, the Champion variety exhibited significantly higher levels of N, Ca, Fe, and Cu compared to other varieties. Additionally, P, K, and Na contents were significantly higher in Champion and Snow White varieties compared to Burgaz bulbs. The difference between the applications of these nutrients was insignificant except for N, P, Na, and Fe. The Nitrogen, Potassium, Sodium, and Iron contents of soils were the lowest control, while the highest dose application had the highest value at 60 t ha−1 dose. The difference among the applications in these nutrients was significant except for Mg and Cu. It may be recommended to use 40 t ha-1 dose in onion cultivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In our earlier paper, authors have been reported that Ni(II) resistant Saccharomyces cerevisiae AJ208 was developed to remove the elevated level of Ni(II) concentration, and 70% removal was observed concerning the initial Ni(II) concentration of 3000 mg/L. This article aims to screen the facilitated Ni(II) removal after optimizing carbon-nitrogen and macro-micro elements as nutritional supplements into fermentation media from an aqueous solution. In the fermentation media, the synthetic carbon-nitrogen sources and macro-micro elements were added and optimized to obtain better Ni(II) percentage removal from the aqueous solution by using the Ni(II) resistant strain of S. cerevisiae AJ208. As newly optimized carbon-nitrogen sources, sucrose, and ammonium chloride collectively provide 75% Ni(II) removal. The macro-micro elements, magnesium sulfate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, ferric sulfate, and zinc sulfate, positively impacted S. cerevisiae AJ208 growth and fermentation. After optimization, it provided 85% Ni(II) removal. The adsorbent was also characterized with SEM-EDAX, Raman, and FTIR analysis. The adsorption study shows a striking enhancement in Ni(II) removal after adding mentioned nutritive elements. Mint (Mentha × piperita L.) is a medicinal and aromatic plant known for its high-water requirement. However, water stress is an important factor limiting vegetative development of this plant. Studying the growth, productivity, and nutrient uptake of this plant under various water stress levels is necessary to optimize its fertilization programs. In this study, the effects of different water stress levels and cutting times on the fresh biomass yields and the amounts of nutrient uptake of peppermint by different aerial parts were examined in two consecutive years. The field experiment was arranged as five irrigation treatments (125, 100, 75, 50 and 25% of full irrigation), during the season of maximum water demand (June-September), applied by drip irrigation. Results showed that at all cutting times in both years, the amounts of nutrient elements taken up by the different parts generally increased in parallel with increasing water stress, while fresh biomass yields decreased. However, this increase observed in nutrient element uptake was an increase relative to the dramatic decrease in the number of plants in severe stress conditions. The effect of long-term water stress on the nutrients taken up by different parts of the plant was mostly observed in Ca, Mg, N, Fe and Cu. As a result, in mint growing under Mediterranean conditions, despite the non-significant differences, in terms of the amounts of nutrient elements taken up by aerial parts, T75 treatment which provided 25% water saving compared to T100 could be recommended for one cut and one year cultivation in practice. Natural products play an important role in medicine. They have been used extensively in folk medicine to treat various illnesses. In this work, quantitative analysis of phenolic compounds in methanol, acetonitrile and dichloromethane extracts of Rosa canina L. waste seeds were investigated by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) LC-MS/MS. Mineral analysis of R. canina seeds was determined by inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Fe, Mn, K and Zn were found as chief elements. Quantitative analysis revealed that catechin was the major flavonoid in all extracts. This work offers a viewpoint for recycling the R. canina waste seeds into the economy due to their bioactive content.

Oat grain is an important cereal in the human diet and as an animal feed. It is cultivated in many regions of the world. This study was carried out to determine the variability in the element content of these oat gene sources collected from the West and Middle Black Sea Region of Turkey. Two hundred and fifty-six oat genotypes were examined under this study. The mean of mineral elements in landraces and commercial cultivars were 40.39 g kg-1 and 36.16 g kg-1 for K, 23.90 g kg-1 and 28.51 g kg-1 for P, 12.47 g kg-1 and 10.99 g kg-1 for Mg, 10.92 g kg-1 and 10.96 g kg-1 for Ca, 2.58 g kg-1 and 2.36 g kg-1 for Na, 54.70 mg kg-1 and 53.02 mg kg-1 for Fe, 32.08 mg kg-1 and 23.51 mg kg-1 for Mn, 25.39 mg kg-1 and 24.05 mg kg-1 for Zn and 8.26 mg kg-1 and 8.07 mg kg-1 for Cu, respectively. The ranges of mineral elements in the landraces were significantly higher than those in the commercial cultivars. The contributions of the first and second principal components (PC1 and PC2) to the total variation were 43.0% and 15.6%, respectively. These results indicate that examined oat landraces can provide a good source of diversity in mineral elements concentration and could be successfully used in biofortification programs. Soil pollution increases day by day due to excessive use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides which can disturb natural environment of the soil when applied consistently. Sustainable and healthy agricultural in long term, however, can be obtained by the utilization of organic fertilizers and bacterial fertilizers. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of bacteria and vermicompost applications on soil fertility and some nutrient elements of exotic plant Malabar spinach (Basella alba L.). Standard variety green Malabar spinach was used as plant material and Rhodobacter capsulatus and solid vermicompost were used as fertilizers in this study. The experiment was conducted according to the randomized block design in triplicates. The trials in the study were as follows: control, only bacteria (B) (10 mL/pot), only solid vermicompost (8%), and three different vermicompost concentrations (V1: 4%. V2: 8%. V3: 12%) with fixed amount of bacteria (10 mL/pot). The bacteria and vermicompost were mixed with soil during planting. The results showed that the bacteria + vermicompost applications increased the N, P, K, Cu, Zn and Mn decreased Ca and had no significant effect on Mg and Fe contents of the plants. This application had the same effect on the experimental soil in terms of the mentioned elements. The effects of only bacteria and only vermicompost applications on some micro and macro nutrient elements of the plant and soil varied. The results suggested that the use of organic fertilizer and bacterial fertilizers on soils that are mostly poor in terms of organics is important and should be extended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fatty Acids, α-tocopherol, β-caroten, minerals, and some pomological properties of walnut genotypes from four locations (Iğdır, Tuzluca, Karakoyunlu, Kağızman) of Aras Valley (Eastern Turkey) were examined. In this study, the differences among the genotypes were determined in terms of some fruit characteristics, oil and protein contents, fatty acid composition, selenium content, α-tocopherol content, β-carotene content and some macro- and microelement contents. The genotypes different in the values of nut weight from 8.89 to16.22 g, kernel weight from 4.72 to 9.64 g, kernel ratio from 36.74 to 59.59%, and shell thickness 1.04-3.60 mm, respectively. The contents of fat and moisture of the selected genotypes were in the range of 59.18 to 68.12% and 10.49 to 23.31%, respectively. The contents of most common fatty acids determined in the genotypes were linoleic acid (58.15-64.07%), oleic acid (12.93-17.49%), linolenic acid (9.37-13.61%), palmitic acid (5.60-8.62%) and stearic acid (4.68-6.69%), whereas the contents of remaining fatty acids were rarely detected in trace amounts. In the genotypes, the amount of α-tocopherol was in the range of 8.75 to 35.11 mg/kg, β-carotene was in the range of 0.03 to 0.12 mg /kg and selenium was in the range of 15.89 to 68.19 ng/g. The genotypes were found to have 1.09 to 2.47% N, 230.36 to 451.48 mg/100g P, 350.74 to 666.20 mg/100g K, 2.30 to 3.86 mg/100g Cu, 1.71 to 3.91 mg/100g Zn, 7.16 to 18.82 mg/100g Fe, 144.0 to 452.08 mg/100g Ca, 110.25 to 342.44 mg/100g Mg, 1.73 to 9.67 mg/100g Mn and 7.11 to 25.51 mg/100g Na. The present results revealed that the high nutritional values of walnut genotypes selected from the Aras Valley(Eastern Turkey) could have health benefits effects on human nutrition.

This study was conducted to determine the residual effects of chicken manure on the yield and yield performance of eight onion varieties as second crops after lettuce under greenhouse condition. 14-16, Burgaz, Karbeyazı, Naz, NWG, Perwana, Seyhan, Şampiyon varieties and also four different doses of chicken manure at the rates of 0, 20, 40, 60 t ha-1 with the recommended dose of NPK were used. A non-fertilized parcel was used as control. The experiment was laid out in split plot design and replicated three times. Yield and yield components were investigated. According to the results residual effect of chicken manure and onion varieties as second crop significantly affected the yield and bulb production in the greenhouse condition. The application of chicken manure significantly improved yield, bulb weight, bulb height, number of shoot tip, number of dried leaf compared to control. Highest yields (72.99 t ha-1) were obtained in the parcels where the chicken manure was applied at a rate of 20 t ha-1. The onion cultivar Burgaz was more responsive to the chicken manure compared to other onion cultivars. The best yield was shown of Burgaz cultivar and the 20 t ha1 chicken manure treatments by the interaction. As a result, this method is the most suitable for onion production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, the quantitative analysis of phytochemical constituents of medicinal plant Spiraea hypericifolia L. from Kazakhstan has been made for the first time. Total bioactive components aerial and underground parts of plants material S. hypericifolia L. such as organic acids (0.28 %), (0.35 %), flavonoids (0.77 %), (5.36 %), coumarins (0.04 %), (0.21 %), saponins (2.09 %), (0.98 %), tannins (1.31 %), (1.62 %), and together with moisture content (4.72 %), (3.84 %), total ash (5.11 %), (5.41 %), were determined. Eleven macro-micro elements from the ash of plant were identified, main contents of them were Ca (362.20 μg/ml), (344.750 μg/ml), K (69.670 μg/ml), (57.8075 μg/ml), and Mg (24.270 μg/ml), (34.480 μg/ml), by using the method of multi-element atomic emission spectral analysis. In addition, twenty amino and eight fatty acids were analyzed from the plant. The results showed that major contents of amino acids were glutamate (1741 mg/100g), (1710 mg/100g), aspartate (845 mg/100g), (820 mg/100g), and alanine (560 mg/100g), (523 mg/100g), as well as in fatty acid was linoleic (81.1 %), (79.7 %) acid, respectively. One of the main interests of research in the field of medicinal plants is based on the results of potentially active properties of medicinal plants, one of which is current plant - Artemisia sublessingiana known among the locals in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries as having healing properties. Definitely, detailed chemical constituents of this herb have not been explored yet. In this study, we have investigated the main bioactive contents of the whole plant A. sublessingiana in terms of its moisture content (10.00 %), total ash (12.42 %), and extractives (22.88 %), also have analyzed the chemical constituents. Therefore, eleven macro- and microelements were identified in the ash of A. sublessingiana by using the method of multi-element atomic emission spectral analysis, and the main elements were K (47.310 %), Ca (41.910 %), Fe (4.984 %), Zn (0.126 %), and Mg (0.3475 %). Moreover, 8 fatty and 20 amino acids were identified from the further chemical investigation of the medicinal plant. Among of them, linoleic acid and oleic acid were recorded as the main components of fatty acids at C18:2 (69.1 %) and C18:1 (18.3 %) respectively, while glutamate, aspartate and alanine were the major contents of the amino acids at 640 mg/100 g, 1120 mg/100 g and 890 mg/100 g respectively. The aerial part of Artemisia absinthium, collected in Almaty region of Kazakhstan, investigated for chemical constituent with sufficiently completed quantitative and qualitative analysis. Biological active constituents such as organic acid (1.08%) and flavonoids (0.52%) together with the moisture content (7.14%), total ash (6.4%), and extractives (12.82%) of plant A. absinthium were determined. In the ash of the plant was found 8 macro-micro elements, main of them was K (417.930 μg/ml), Ca (116.0225 μg/ml), Mg (26.2250 μg/ml), Na (15.9825 μg/ml) by using the method of multi-element atomic emission spectral analysis at the Institute of Combustion Problems. Additionally, twenty amino acids and eight fatty acids were identified from A. absinthium. As the results showed that the major contents of amino acids were glutamate (2380 mg/100g), aspartate (1200 mg/100g) and alanine (712 mg/100g), and main contents of fatty acids were linoleic (44.8%) and oleic (30%) acids, relatively. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine» Summary A deep study of the adjustment processes of bone, its structure, chemical composition, adaptive capacity is a necessary condition for clarification of the influence of labor, sports and a number of trades that occur in connection with the scientific - technical progress on the body. The organization and simulation of the different modes of motor activity does not fully meet the training process rights in physical education and sport. However, the results obtained in this pilot study are related to the disclosure of general biological laws based on individual and genetically determined characteristics of individuals, knowledge of which will serve as a morphological substantiation of the training process and prediction of structural changes in the skeleton at various modes of exercise, injury prevention, and the development of osteoporosis. As follows: 1. Intense exercise causes slowdown in growth and osteoclastic resorption of humeri and their structural elements by young and mature animals. By animals with severe senile changes there observed significant destructive changes in all parts of the humeri. Morphometric research methods allow confirming maximal destructive bone changes in the group of senile animals and minimal ones – by mature animals. 2. Inturn, moderate exercise is a deterrent of involute changes in humeri. In the group of young animals there is observed deceleration of the narrowing processes of the growth plate width and increase of osteoblasts activity, what was indirectly manifested in increase of the bones size and their structures by experimental animals. In the group of animals with severe senile changes there was marked slowdown of bone demineralization. It was determined that the effect of the different regimes of exercise on morphogenesis processes depends on age, as well as intensity and duration of exercise. 3. Results of the study have both theoretical and practical importance because they provide methodological basis for the study of adaptive changes in bone system, determining a range of its transformation. Ability to predict training exercises and target use graduated physical exercises with the aim to correct skeletal structural changes depending on age was experimentally confirmed. Aquatic plants often encounter various redox conditions in their natural environment. Elodea nuttallii (Planch.), a submerged aquatic macrophyte, has a flexile ability to use different nutrient sources from various environments. In the present study, Elodea nuttallii was subjected to various redox conditions (+400 mV to -180 mV) at both normal (2.5 ppm) and high (10 ppm) ammonium concentrations and evaluated for macro and micro element accumulation. A reduced environment was prepared by adding glucose to growth medium and nitrogen gas bubbling, while an oxic environment was executed by atmospheric air bubbling. Plants in oxygen-deprived conditions manifested heavy metal (HM) toxicity, such as reduction of biomass and photosynthetic pigments, excess generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation and reduction of major macro elements. In reduced treatments, the bioaccumulation sequence for micro elements was Cu>Mn>Zn>Al>Cd>Fe>Pb at both normal and high NH4-N concentrations. The combined effect of low redox state and high ammonium concentration had a strong physiological impact on the submerged macrophyte. However, macro- and micronutrient accumulation was more significantly affected by reduced environment than by a high NH4-N concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Musts of 11 different grape sorts were analyzed for titratable acids, total sugars, nitrogen, vitamin B group (B1, B2, B6, pantothenic acid) and macro- and micro elements (K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Mo). Analyses were done on samples collected in 1983 and 1984. The nutritive value of each sample was characterised by indices based on the nutrient concentrations and recommended dietary allowances (RDA). The nutritive values of the various grape must sorts were generally similar to those of the following vintage. Favourable climatic conditions had a positive effect on the nutritive values.
