The classical approach to radical surgery of cancer of the lower rectal ampulla requires abdominoperineal resection which is technically easy to perform and is often applied in surgical units, however the procedure leads to life-long disability. The aim of the present research was to justify performing abdominoperineal resection for low rectal carcinoma (less than 5 cm from the dentate line). The research showed that the given procedure is a highly radical surgery requiring ten postoperative months for complete rehabilitation.
