The article reveals the specifics of criminal liability for intentional destruction or damage to someone else's property provided for in Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The problematic issues of the composition of the criminal offense of intentional destruction or damage to someone else's property are analyzed, the difference between this composition and the intentional destruction or damage to property that has special features (objects of the electric power industry, nature reserve fund, archaeological heritage, weapons, military supplies, official documents, military property, etc.). Intentional destruction or damage to someone else's property, which has special features to be qualified according to the special norms provided for by articles: 113, 1941, 252, 258, 292, 298, 338, 357, 360, 378, 399, 411, 437, 433, 438 of the Criminal Code, is proposed. of Ukraine. On the basis of the analysis of judicial practice, it was proposed that in the case of using an explosive device, for the intentional destruction or damage of someone else's property, such actions of the perpetrator must be additionally qualified under Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The imperfection of the provisions of the current criminal legislation in terms of the formulation of the qualifying signs of intentional destruction or damage to property was revealed. It has been established that the current legislation of Ukraine on criminal responsibility does not include the concept of a generally dangerous method, arson, explosion, the content of the death of people, serious consequences is not disclosed. In order to avoid unnecessary differentiation of criminal law norms, it is proposed to exclude from the Criminal Code of Ukraine articles 347, 3471, 352, and part 2 of Art. 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to add the sign of intentional destruction or damage to someone else's property in connection with the person's performance of official powers or professional duties. Background: Given the inherent nature of their job, law enforcement staff regularly confront major stressors. Objectives: The prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among law enforcement staff is about twice that of the general population. We conducted this study to assess PTSD risk factors among this population. Methods: This prospective case-control study was conducted on patients with PTSD working as law enforcement staff as the case group, and their comrades with no PTSD as the control group. We used a questionnaire, including possible factors contributing to the development of PTSD, to gather the data. Binomial logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 84 participants were included in the study. We found that some factors could be protective against PTSD, including marriage (OR: 0.270, 95% CI: 0.087 - 0.839, P-value: 0.024), having an academic degree (OR: 0.333, 95% CI: 0.114 - 0.978, Pvalue: 0.045), higher income (R2: 0.081; OR: 0.849, 95% CI: 0.721 - 1.000, P-value: 0.050), and receiving satisfactory family support (OR: 0.413, 95% CI: 0.171 - 0.999, P-value: 0.050). Furthermore, logistic regression showed that a positive psychological history (OR: 2.562, 95% CI: 1.025 - 6.406, P-value: 0.044), a positive familial psychological history (OR: 2.667, 95% CI: 1.099 - 6.406, P-value: 0.030), and encountering trauma (aside from the current trauma) after 18 years of age (OR: 2.643, 95% CI: 1.038 - 6.731, P-value: 0.041) are risk factors for PTSD. Conclusions: Our results showed that marriage, having an academic degree, higher income, and receiving satisfactory family support are protective factors. In addition, the risk factors for PTSD include a positive psychological history, a positive familial psychological history, and encountering trauma (aside from the current trauma) after 18 years of age. Purpose. The article discloses the organic interrelationship of globalization processes, mass culture phenomena, social morality, and the peculiarities of law enforcement activities through mass culture, in TV series. The author outlines a wide range of questions devoted to the interaction of various spheres of a person's spiritual life (social morality, law, law enforcement, art), which has great variability, is represented by a wide palette of subject forms, reflects the current social reality and at the same time constructs it. Cultural and semiotic methodological approaches assisted in carrying out an analysis of modern series on law enforcement officers to find in them the transmission of the main moral values of Western European society, which include humanism, equality, tolerance, and inclusion. Methodology. The methodology includes a comprehensive analysis and a synthesis of available scientific and theoretical information. It is includes the formulation of relevant conclusions and recommendations. Special attention is paid to analyzing the sociocultural context within which modern mass culture exists (globalization, the spread of democracy, unification and standardization of life, compression of time, significant information flow, clip type of thinking, etc.). Results: the article shows that the spread of mass culture is due to the development of technologies and a change in the type of communication: from verbal-written to audiovisual (which only confirms the fundamental importance of sight and visual metaphor within European culture). Originality. The article focuses on the fact that modern series about the work of law enforcement officers reflect the realities of modern Western European society, which overcomes the fear of the other with the help of the affirmation of moral values and their legal support; recognizes equality both in the field of opportunities and in the field of responsibility; forms and approves new gender and social models of behavior, keeping the values of individualism and person-centeredness effective; recognizes the special role of civil society institutions in monitoring the activities of state bodies, including law enforcement. BACKGROUND: Concerns are sometimes raised by police applicants undertaking physical fitness testing that they were unfamiliar with the test requirements which in turn negatively impacted their performance. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a single day physical test training session on physical fitness scores of police candidates. METHODS: The sample consisted of female police candidates (n = 133) who attended a pre-academy training session. On the first day of pre-training, candidates' physical fitness was measured following official assessment day protocols. Measures included maximal handgrip strength, number of push-ups in 10 sec (PU), number of sit-ups in 30 sec (SU), standing long jump (SLJ), Abalakow jump test (AJ), 12 min Cooper running test (CT), and a motor educability test (ME). After the assessment, the overseeing UCIPS staff provided a detailed test skills briefing to candidates (e.g., common mistakes made during testing, how test performance could be improved, etc.). Immediately after the briefing, candidates performed the tests once again. Differences between results were measured using a paired samples t-test with significance set at 0.05. RESULTS: Paired sample t-tests determined significant (p < 0.001), large (Rank-Biserial Correlation = 1.00), improvements in physical fitness scores during the second assessment following familiarisation and feedback on test performance. CONCLUSION: Pre-academy training may be effective in improving candidates' physical fitness scores, in most tests, prior to the official assessment for the enrolment to police studies. Thus, to optimise initial candidate scores and opportunities for successful enlistment, police agencies may benefit from providing pre-assessment training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

“No one is born a policeman” – wrote Miklós Réde(i)y at the beginning of the 20th century, who did a lot to ensure that through his books and articles on police and law enforcement well-prepared police officers were performing their duties in Hungary. Just as many 19th- and 20th-century law enforcement experts picked up pens to make literature available for the education of police officers, inspectors, detectives, and investigators. The textbooks required for the specialized law enforcement courses were drawn first from the books on police subjects already published and after 1922 from works written by eminent legal experts and scholars researching police science who were the teachers of the course and were available to both students of the specialized courses and the officers performing enforcement in practice.

An effective investigation of any criminal offence is not possible without the use of specialised knowledge. Taking a government official or law enforcement officer as a hostage is no exception; on the contrary, from the moment information about the seizure is received, there is a need to engage specialists from various fields of knowledge, including a forensic expert, dog handler, explosives expert, etc. The purpose of the study is to investigate the scientific findings on the definition of the concept of “special knowledge” and to clarify its role in the investigation of criminal proceedings under Article 349 “Taking a government official or law enforcement officer as a hostage” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. To achieve this goal, the study used the following methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, critical thinking, and systemic and structural methods, with the aim of conducting a thorough study of theoretical developments, results of investigative and judicial practice, systematising the results and formulating conclusions. It has been argued that one of the ways to improve the efficiency of detection and investigation of crimes is to use specialised knowledge in the activities of law enforcement agencies. In particular, when investigating the taking of a government official or a law enforcement officer as a hostage, special knowledge should be considered as skills and abilities in a particular area which are used in criminal proceedings and contribute to establishing the truth in the case, which contributes to the effective completion of the investigation. As a result of the study, the special knowledge has been classified, namely: by the procedural position of the person who uses it, by the form of expression, by the need to use special knowledge at a certain stage of investigation, by the form of the final result, by the field of knowledge, by the degree of secrecy, by the purpose of use, by the significance of the results obtained. According to the results of a comprehensive analysis, three forms of special knowledge application are proposed in the course of investigation of taking a government official or law enforcement officer as a hostage: specialist involvement in investigative (detective) actions, appointment of forensic examinations and consulting. The role of specialists when involved in conducting typical investigative (detective) actions, such as: inspection of the scene, interrogation and investigative experiment, has been described. An indicative list of specialists who can assist an investigator has been proposed, and the tasks which can be solved through such interaction have been outlined. An indicative list of tasks facilitated by the appointment of forensic examinations has been provided.

The defence and security sector plays a significant role in ensuring the national security of the state, the vast majority of which are law enforcement agencies. Based on the specifics of the activities of the bodies and units entrusted with the implementation of the law enforcement function, the state guarantees criminal law protection of their life, health, private property, professional authority, and the ability to perform their professional duties without hindrance, etc. Nevertheless, the proportion of recorded crimes involving law enforcement officers remains quite significant, which necessitates the identification of ways to counteract them. An important aspect of conducting an effective and objective pre-trial investigation of this type of crime is to ensure that these crimes are proved, with the main burden of proof being placed on the prosecution. Given that in the theory of national legal science the subject matter of proof and peculiarities of evidence collection in the course of investigation of crimes the victims of which are law enforcement officers have so far remained outside the scope of substantive study by scholars, clarification of certain aspects of this issue has been chosen as the purpose of the study. The article defines the general subject matter of proof in crimes where law enforcement officers are the victims, and also outlines certain aspects of evidence collection in criminal proceedings of this category. It has been determined that the measures of collecting evidence include: investigative (search) and covert investigative (search) actions, some measures to ensure criminal proceedings, as well as things, documents, information, expert opinions, etc. requested and received by the subject of proof from representatives of public authorities, local self-government bodies, enterprises, institutions and organisations, officials and individuals. It is emphasised that, due to the lack of comprehensive developments on this issue, it requires further in-depth research.

The criminal offence of taking a government official or a law enforcement officer hostage under Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is becoming increasingly relevant in today’s realities. However, in the course of the study of scientific findings, the absence of methodological recommendations for investigating this crime has been established, which negatively affects the state of combating crime. In particular, the investigation methodology includes recommendations on the specifics of certain investigative (detective) actions, the primary of which is the inspection of the scene. Thus, there is a need to conduct research on the above issue. The purpose of the study is to determine the tactical features of conducting an inspection of the scene of a hostage-taking of a government official or law enforcement officer. To achieve this research goal, the analysis of scientific literature, investigative and judicial practice has been carried out. The article outlines some peculiarities of the tactics of examining the scene of an incident, and identifies the necessary material and technical and forensic support for such an investigative (detective) action. The article also provides examples of possible evidence to be considered at the scene of an event. Based on the results of the study, some tactical techniques for inspecting the scene of a seizure of a government official or a law enforcement officer have been identified, and the inspection has been classified depending on the location: 1) the place of seizure; 2) the place of movement of the seized person; 3) the place of detention of the hostage; 4) the place of detention of the perpetrator. For each place of inspection, the peculiarities and the relevant algorithm of actions by the pre-trial investigation authorities have been identified. It has been established that the purpose of conducting a crime scene investigation of the criminal offences under study is to: establish the location and release of a hostage; establish the location and detention of suspects; identify and seize tools, means of committing a crime and other things relevant to criminal proceedings.

An urgent criminal law problem at present is a systematic analysis of doctrinal and law enforcement aspects of crimes against the order of governance, which are the fifth most common group of crimes. Purpose: to analyze the doctrinal positions of Professor V.S. Komissarov regarding the interpretation of crimes against the order of governance, their classification, as well as the signs of individual elements of crimes. Methods: general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, formal and dialectical logic; specific scientific methods: legal-dogmatic and interpretation of legal norms. Results: the study reveals and shows the main approaches of Professor V.S. Commissarov to the understanding of crimes against the order of governance, some of which are adopted by the modern doctrine, and reflected in the decisions of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

Objective: To clarify the methods for identifying officers at high risk for cardiac events. Methods: This retrospective review included 3330 patient charts. Classic cardiovascular risk factors, coronary artery calcium (CAC) scores, and endothelial inflammatory biomarker levels were compared between civilians and law enforcement officers (LEOs). The Framingham Risk Score (FRS) was compared with risk assessment using inflammatory biomarkers. Results: The FRS failed to identify more than 90% of LEOs at high risk of cardiovascular events. Similarly, the use of the CAC score was ineffective. Inflammatory biomarker analysis measuring the lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 activity was the most reliable method for identifying LEOs at high risk of cardiovascular events. Financial cybercrime is defined as the use of the internet or computer to commit criminal activity for financial gain. Digital financial services development plays a pivotal role in economic growth despite the rise of financial cybercrime. Not only that but also mobile financial services hold great potential to expand financial access among people. While this progress lingers, some users have engaged themselves in financial cybercrimes for illegal gain. The Cybercrime Act of Tanzania 2015 provided for law enforcement officers including a Police officer with the rank of assistant inspector or an investigator of equivalent rank of inspector and above, a member of the Tanzania National Intelligence Service, Prosecutors and other authorized persons or the officer commanding station (OCS) termed as a law enforcement officer. The report of the Tanzania computer emergence response team beginning from the 9th day of June 2023 to the 15th day of June 2024 shows how financial cybercrime is seriously increasing despite the measurements taken. This paper explores the legal and practical role of law enforcement in combating financial cybercrime examining the adequacy of existing laws, enforcement limitations, and social issues that complicate intervention efforts. Highlighting legal analysis, case studies, and comparative insights, the study discusses potential reforms and offers recommendations for more effective prevention and response mechanisms. This study aims to contribute to an improved understanding of the unique challenges Tanzania faces in combating financial cybercrime that address legal, educational, and technological issues. Proper legal regulation of the protection of law enforcement officers from unlawful attacks should be one of the most important tasks of a developed state governed by the rule of law, especially in the context of active hostilities, because even in peacetime law enforcement officers put their health and lives at risk. At the same time, state institutions must provide adequate guarantees to ensure the normal functioning of the law enforcement system. The purpose of the research is to study and carry out a comprehensive scientific analysis of the structural elements of the forensic description of threats or violence against a law enforcement officer, to determine their essence, to study the legal framework governing the processes, and to identify possible areas for improving their legal regulation. The research was conducted using a range of general scientific and special scientific methods: dialectical, comparative legal, systemic-historical and logical analysis, analogy, formal logic, substantive legal logic, and comparative methods. The author has studied a wide range of scientific sources on the subject matter under study. The materials of investigative and judicial practice have been studied and analysed in detail. Legislative and regulatory acts have been studied and compared. On the basis of the conducted research, the author has formed a typical list of elements of the forensic description of threats or violence against a law enforcement officer, and each element has been characterised, and examples of application of the elements in the practical activities of law enforcement officers have been provided. Recommendations have been made on the application of the elements of forensic description which can be used by law enforcement officers and other stakeholders to improve the practical application of forensic description of threats or violence against a law enforcement officer.

The aim of the study was to assess the importance of a healthy lifestyle for fulfilling official duties by the law enforcement officers. Used methods. Method of pedagogical experiment. The research was conducted using the testing method. The analysis of the obtained data was carried out through correlation. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was chosen as its coefficient. The validity of the test was determined by the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Results. The criteria for the persistent healthy lifestyle of future law enforcement officers at the stage of professional development are identified. It was determined that the main criteria are: physical training and sports, active leisure time, abandonment of bad habits, observing the daily routine and self-improvement through the acquisition of health knowledge. The dynamics and levels of a persistent healthy lifestyle among future law enforcement officers in the first, second and third years of training were determined through testing. It was found that the general level of a persistent healthy lifestyle in future law enforcement officers is assessed as sufficient. Unreliable (p>0.05) deterioration during studies at a higher educational institution (HEI) was found. Conclusions. It can be stated that a healthy lifestyle has a positive effect on the development of professional qualities of law enforcement officers. Prospects. The prospects for further research include the development of training methods that will contribute to increasing the level of a persistent healthy lifestyle in future law enforcement officers at the stage of professional development. Background: Occupational injuries are common among law enforcement officers (LEOs) and can impact an agency's ability to serve communities. Workers' compensation (WC) data are an underutilized source for occupational injury surveillance in the law enforcement field. Methods: LEOs WC claims from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (OHBWC) from 2001 to 2019 were identified based on manual review of the occupation title and injury description. Worker, employer, incident, and injury characteristics were described by claim type—medical‐only (MO) and lost‐time (8 or more days away from work). Data are presented using injury claim counts. Results: From 2001 to 2019, 50,793 WC claims were identified among Ohio LEOs. Of these, 68% were MO claims (n = 34,622). WC claims significantly decreased over the 19‐year period (p < 0.001). Seventy‐five percent of WC claims were from a LEO with more than one claim and of these, 34% were from a LEO with five or more claims during the study period. Male officers and those aged 25−54 years incurred the highest proportion of total claims (87.8% & 91.8%, respectively). Violence (n = 17,247; 34%), falls/slips/trips (n = 9079; 17.9%), and transportation events (n = 7977; 15.7%) were the leading events. Among the 50,793 claims, there were 79,637 unique clinical diagnosis groups. The most common injury diagnoses were sprains (n = 32,796; 41.2%) followed by contusions (n = 13,529; 17%). Conclusions: Results can guide the development or improvement of workplace injury prevention strategies for LEOs. Efforts should be focused on better understanding and preventing violent injury events and sprains among LEOs, as well as preventing multiple injury events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Police officers in Thailand have an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, possibly due to a high prevalence of hypertension and metabolic syndrome (MetS). In this study, the researchers aimed to understand the relationship between surrogate markers of insulin resistance (IR) and the prevalence of MetS and hypertension in Thai police officers. The study included 7,852 police officer participants, of which 91.8% were men with an average age of 48.56 years. The prevalence of hypertension and MetS were found to be 51.1% and 30.8%, respectively, and the participants with MetS and hypertension were older compared to the regular group. The study looked at eight IR indices, including markers such as atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), lipid accumulation product (LAP), metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR), triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, TyG index with body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG index with waist circumference (TyG-WC), the ratio of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c), and visceral obesity index (VAI). These indices were found to be positively correlated with waist circumference, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and triglycerides (TG), while being negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). In addition, the multiple regression analysis showed that higher quartiles of all IR indices were significantly associated with increased risks of MetS and hypertension. Interestingly, the IR indices were more accurate in predicting MetS (ranges 0.848 to 0.892) than traditional obesity indices, with the AUC difference at p < 0.001. Among the IR indices, TyG-WC performed the best in predicting MetS (AUC value 0.892 and Youden index 0.620). At the same time, TyG-BMI had the highest accuracy in predicting hypertension (AUC value of 0.659 and Youden index of 0.236). In addition, this study found that when two markers were combined for diagnosing metabolic syndrome, a significantly improved predictive value for disease risk was observed, as evidenced by higher AUC and Yoden index. Moreover, the IR indices were found to have higher predictive power for MetS and hypertension in younger police personnel (age < 48 years) than older personnel. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of reducing cardiovascular disease risks among law enforcement personnel as a strategic goal to improve their health and wellness. The findings suggest that IR indices may be valuable tools in predicting MetS and hypertension in law enforcement personnel and could potentially aid in the early identification and prevention of law enforcement personnel health conditions. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among tactical populations is estimated at 70%-75%, which may negatively impact health and performance. The relationship between BMI and health and performance is well established among the general population, however, literature on such relationships among tactical populations has yet to be reviewed and evaluated. The purpose of this study was to systematically review available literature on the relationship between BMI and health and occupational performance among law enforcement officer, firefighters, and military personnel. After reviewing the literature, 27 articles were included. Nine studies found BMI was positively associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Studies involving BMI and cancer were lacking. One study found BMI was positively associated with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) risk. Five studies on occupational/physical performance and 12 studies on injury found a higher BMI was often indicative of decreased performance and increased risk of injury in general, but protective against stress fractures. Overall, higher BMI was often associated with negative health and performance outcomes among tactical populations, especially when beyond the overweight classification. Public health practitioners should focus efforts on improving nutrition and physical activity to promote a healthy BMI among these individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the article is to study the theoretical and legal discourse of the modern definition of the motivational component of the legal protection of public morality in the activity of law enforcement agencies of Ukraine. As a result of the conducted analysis, it is necessary to state that motivational orientation should be interpreted as a category of philosophical praxeology, which is most closely related to the concept of determination, and therefore, taking into account that motivation is an element and axiological, it is appropriate to emphasize the importance of confidence and conviction of a person in the correctness and reasonableness their own aspirations. This is possible provided there is a clear regulatory basis, especially when it comes to protocol and such responsible work as law enforcement. The article establishes that the motivation of a law enforcement officer closely interacts with legal deontology, which, by its very nature, determines the basic moral and social principles of interpersonal relations, which motivate in what way a law enforcement officer should understand his professional purpose, how exactly to interpret his mission, and, at most, to realize why the law enforcement profession exists at all. It was established that when investigating the motivational determination of the legal protection of public morality within law enforcement agencies, it is advisable to, first of all, talk about the implementation of the function of legal protection as a professional duty of representatives of law enforcement agencies, which follows from legal norms. It has been established that the problem of the relationship between public morality and the axiology of law enforcement activity is not only a complex topical question and a complex cognitive process, but, in fact, a new epistemological mechanism of scientific immersion in the ideological social foundations of the era of law enforcement system reforms, the era of revolutionary changes and, unfortunately, military realities of modern Ukraine. It is suggested that the motivational determination of the protection of public morality by law enforcement agencies, or their moral self-regulation, should be interpreted as a very comprehensive process, characterized by external and internal determinants, conditioned by the object of legal protection itself and dependent on the specifics of a specific law enforcement agency and its structural unit.

Although the police have been identified as a key service provider when responding to domestic violence and abuse (DVA), very few studies have investigated their response in relation to children. This review aims to examine children's experiences of police response in the context of DVA and to explore how the police understand and respond to children living with DVA. A rapid review of the empirical literature on the police response to DVA involving children was undertaken. PsycINFO, Web of Science and ProQuest were searched. Studies with a qualitative element, concerning children under 18 with experience of police involvement, or police experiences of children, in the context of DVA were included. The final sample comprised of six studies. Using reflexive thematic analysis, four key themes emerged in relation to children: children's experiences of DVA; fear, uncertainty, and mistrust of police; confronting "childism": a matter of children's rights; and going beyond empathy: equality and justice. Regarding the police, three key themes emerged: variability in police response; limited view of police role; lack of professional competence. The findings underscore the need for awareness raising and an urgent review of the training officers receive regarding the impact of DVA on children. Law enforcement officers are disproportionately affected by occupational injury. Firearm violence is the second leading cause of occupational mortality for this group behind motor vehicle crashes. In the general population, greater firearm ownership and weaker firearm laws are associated with increased firearm violence incidence. It is plausible that a high prevalence of firearms could also be associated with a greater incidence of LEO assault with a firearm. Using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s, Uniform Crime Reporting, Police Employee Data for 2006–2016, we conducted a panel analysis to estimate the association between state-level estimates of household firearm ownership and LEO assault with a firearm. We additionally examined if effect modification by universal background check law status was present. Higher state-level firearm ownership was associated with an increased odds of LEO assault with a firearm in multi-level models. This association was modified by universal background check law status. In states without a universal background check law, for every 1% increase in state-level firearm ownership per agency-year, there was a 12.4% increase in the odds of an LEO assault with a firearm when adjusting for confounders (OR:1.124; 95% CI:1.018,1.240). In states with a universal background check law, there was no association. Findings, though small in magnitude, suggest aggregate firearm ownership may contribute to LEO assault with a firearm in states without a universal background check law. Future research to prevent LEO assault with a firearm should combine measures to address high rates of firearm ownership with other evidence-based prevention strategies.

Mental health professionals working with law enforcement officers (LEOs) should prioritize treating the depressive and posttraumatic stress symptoms when this vulnerable population presents for treatment because both variables are significant predictors of suicidality. Clinicians should also assess negative affect and affective depression as those are consistently mentioned in the literature. Objective: Law enforcement officers (LEOs) are exposed to high levels of occupational trauma and face added stress from heightened public scrutiny and COVID-19, which may result in suicide. It is crucial to understand differences between LEOs who seek treatment and those who do not. Method: We compared LEOs from the same greater metropolitan area who sought treatment with those who did not. Participants completed validated measures assessing posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety, depression, and suicidality. Results: The treatment-seeking sample scores were higher on all standardized assessments. Bivariate logistic regression results indicated that the non–treatment-seeking sample's odds of experiencing suicidality were 1.76 times the odds for the treatment seeking sample. Conclusions: This suggests that many LEOs experiencing suicidality may not be seeking treatment and highlights the role that posttraumatic stress disorder may play in determining whether LEOs seek treatment or not. Aim: To carry out the comparative analysis of the indicators of working capacity (physical and mental) of law enforcement officers in the conditions of educational process and service activities. Materials and Methods: The research of physical working capacity was carried out using the Harvard step test and mental working capacity was assessed by means of the correction test. The cadets (n=72) who studied at the higher educational institution for 3 years (2017-2021) and served in the practical police units after the training were involved in the testing. The testing was carried out in 3 stages: 1st – the beginning of the first training year (2017); 2nd – the end of the third training year (2020); 3rd – after 1 year of service (2021). Results: Significant (p 0.05) deterioration after 1 year of their service (by 1.9 % and 5.4 % respectively) was established. Conclusions: It was found that the organization of the educational process in higher educational institutions is quite effective in improving both physical and mental working capacity of future law enforcement officers. However, the decrease of their working capacity after 1 year of service indicates the complexity and extremity of service activities in practical units. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents some data from an empiric study carried out in Winter-Spring 2019, which was a presidential election and election to municipalities year in Lithuania; therefore, respondents had immediate and recent insights into issues related to citizenship. Almost 300 respondents: law enforcement officers, the absolute majority being police officers or future police officers, also representatives of other law enforcement agencies, such as state border guards, participated in the study. Due to ample data, a part of results was presented in a publication in 2019; in this paper in 2020 other part of results is analysed to a greater depth. Notwithstanding the limitations of the study, which is related to the convenience sample, the results provide certain insights, useful for educational settings. The findings of empiric survey enabled conclusion about the need to address issues of citizenship education in educational settings in order to support officer’s nearly impossible quest towards perfection in one’s profession via emphasising the rights and entitlements an officer legally has as a citizen, as a member of democratic society, which may contribute to having a more rewarding professional and social life.

An analysis of the professional tasks of law enforcement officers in the context of an anti-terrorist operation suggests a significant deterioration in their psychological and physical health. Therefore, one of the relevant problems of legal psychology is the development of scientific methods for substantiating and optimizing programs for the psychological provision of the professional activities of law enforcement officers serving in such conditions (professional selection, diagnosis and support of psychological readiness, psychological support, psycho-prophylaxis, correction and rehabilitation). This is necessary to minimize the negative psychosocial consequences in the form of pronounced features of borderline mental disorders and addictive behavior with the formation of concomitant addictions to alcohol and drugs. The authors of the article have revealed the results of constructing a model for predicting borderline stress disorders of law enforcement officers. The obtained regression coefficients and the values of weighted odds ratios for each of the scales demonstrated that the variables “Dissimulation”, “Negativism”, “Distress and maladjustment”, “Indirect aggression” and “Symptom of hyperactivity” are the most significant indicators of personal qualities that predict the formation of borderline stress disorders of law enforcement officers – participants in the anti-terrorist operation; further significant are “The presence of features of post traumatic stress disorder”, “Resentment”, “Aggravation” and, finally, “Hostility”, “Physical aggression”, “Symptoms of invasion” and “Verbal aggression”. It has been substantiated that negativistic law enforcement officers with pronounced features of indirect aggressiveness to the environment, exaggerating the existing problems, with features of psychological maladjustment in the emotional sphere of personality are mostly exposed to the formation of borderline stress disorders. It is advisable to use this model for predicting borderline mental disorders during routine psycho-preventive examinations of law enforcement officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the period between business trips to anti-terrorist operation zone.

The practice of conduct of operations has proven that not every participant in these events endures painlessly the extreme conditions of the battle for their mental health. Under the intense influence of psycho-traumatic factors of the combat environment, a law enforcement officer can get mental disorders of various degree of severity, which lead to a partial or complete loss of combat capability. The author has provided results of studying mental health of law enforcement officers – participants in the anti-terrorist operation after a month of their last business trip. Mentally healthy law enforcement officers had high stress, depletion of internal resources, the formation of an accentuation of personality and symptoms of emotional burnout with a reduction in professional duties, which can lead to emotional problems (anxiety, affective fluctuations, decreased productivity). This category of law enforcement officers requires the conduction of psycho-correctional measures. Law enforcement officers with moderate degree of post-traumatic disorder have increased affective instability, flatness and conservatism; psychosomatic and vegetative disorders have emerged, indicating the need for psychological assistance to these individuals, despite the absence of clear PTSD clinical criteria. Law enforcement officers, who received psychological assistance in connection with clear features of post-traumatic disorder, on the background of significant reduction of psycho-pathological symptoms, there is tendency to socially approved behaviors, while emotional limitation – “insensitivity”, is formed, which is evidenced for the need to conduct psychological rehabilitation with them. It has been substantiated that, regardless the degree of psychological trauma, at different stages of psychological support of the professional activities of law enforcement officers, it is necessary to carry out psycho-correctional measures.

The work of law enforcement officers and their role in today's society is in the great interest. It is extremely important to make sure the high level of the responsibility of these professionals. The education of an individual's responsibility begins long before he or she chooses his or her profession. The following main factors of general education can be distinguished: family, school and self education. The role of higher education institution is also extremely important in order to prepare a future law enforcement officer who would be well aware of the roles of his or her activities, be able to perform them professionally, would have mastered inner social responsibility and external legal liability. The aim of the article is to investigate the responsibility of the Law study programme students -- future law enforcement officers. In order to achieve this goal, the analysis of the scientific literature of the responsibility of law enforcement officers was performed, as well as the insights of experts on the legal liability and social responsibility of future law enforcement officers were explored empirically using the in-depth interviews. According to the results of scientific literature analysis, the general interview questions were formulated in order to get the in-depth insights of the experts about the responsibility of Law study programme students -- future law enforcement officers. The 5 experts teaching at one of the Lithuanian higher education institution in the Law study programme were selected for the in-depth interviews matching at least one of the following criteria: 1) lecturers with a scientific degree and at least 10 years of administrative -- managerial and scientific -- pedagogical work experience; 2) lecturers with at least 15 years of practical work and scientific-pedagogical work experience. It was found that the main educational factors developing future professionals' legal liability and social responsibility are family, school, church, state institutions, educational institutions. The legal liability and social responsibility of students, future law enforcement officers, in higher education institution is developed through the study process, study subjects, social welfare, mutual statutory relationship and events. A legally liable student is a member of society who complies with the laws, obligations, whose behaviour and expectations do not violate the principle of unity of rights and duties. A socially responsible student is a member of the society who clearly understands the expectations of the society for the activities of a law enforcement officer and is ready to satisfy them with his or her work. Students who are characterized by legal liability are also characterized by social responsibility, as legal liability is not possible without social responsibility. Students who are characterized by social responsibility also have legal liability, because first of all, an individual develops social responsibility and from it a legal liability develops. African Americans/Black citizens in the United States are far more likely to be shot by law enforcement officers (LEOs) than European Americans/White citizens. A limited amount of research examines factors contributing to perceived consequences for police who shoot civilians, especially respondent political affiliation. The present study tested how different factors influenced perceived outcomes for LEOs who shoot youth using case vignettes in a diverse sample of 1044 participants. Vignettes included a shooting scenario that manipulated victim race/ethnicity, LEO race/ethnicity, and victim criminal history across vignettes. Results indicated a main effect of the presence or absence of criminal history on: perceived guilt of perpetrator, whether the perpetrator should be fired from their job, whether the perpetrator should be incarcerated, and whether the victim's family should be monetarily compensated. There was also a robust main effect of political affiliation, such that conservative political affiliation was associated with more lenient views on all outcomes for the LEO. Additionally, several noteworthy interaction effects were observed. Overall, results suggest that, along with situational factors, political affiliation strongly influences the perceptions of guilt and other consequences for police officers who shoot civilians. Purpose: the formation of tactical actions of cadets taking into account their cerebration on classes in the subject matters, which is connected with modeling of situations on office activity. Material & Methods: the analysis of law-enforcement practice when carrying out various operational investigative actions, which are connected with the detention of offenders and their prosecution. The computer tests of assessment of psychophysiological abilities of sportsmen, which are developed by V. S. Ashanin were used, for carrying out the research. The experiment (n=25) is made during four years. Results: the main psychophysiological processes of cerebration at cadets-law enforcement authorities on special physical preparation classes, tactical-special preparation and tactics of behavior of the employee of fiscal service with organic firearms in unusual situations are established. Conclusions: the structure and the model of preparation are experimentally proved and specified, the role of interrelations of physical and psychophysiological qualities is opened.

Banks active development of cashless payments by plastic cards, the growing number of fraudulent transactions and the damage they cause, create new challenges and threats to economic security in the sphere of banking activity. The latest information technologies are active used by organized crime groups, the methods of committing crimes are changing and are not yet adequately reflected by banks and law enforcement agencies.

Objective: Aim: To determine the effectiveness of physical therapy on the functional state of law enforcement officers' knee joints after surgical intervention., Patients and Methods: Materials and Methods: The research involved law enforcement officers from different units of the National Police of Ukraine (n = 56) who had suffered knee joint injuries in the line of duty, and underwent surgical intervention and rehabilitation procedures., Results: Results: It was found that 78.2 % of respondents had suffered knee joint ligament injuries as a result of falls during rapid movement, while 43.9 % were in full gear (armored protection, helmet, etc.). It was determined that after surgical intervention, the functional state of the knee joint of law enforcement officers who followed the recommendations of physical therapy specialists and systematically performed special sets of physical exercises was significantly different (p < 0.001). Worse results were noted in people who partially followed the recommendations of rehabilitation therapists and performed part of the prescribed procedures and physical exercises., Conclusion: Conclusions: The effectiveness of the complex use of physical rehabilitation means for restoring the functioning of the knee joint after surgical intervention, which included arthroscopy, partial menisectomy of the damaged areas, debridement, vaporization of damaged cartilage, etc. was revealed. The positive effect of physical exercises on the functional state of the knee joint was proven. The sets of exercises that are advisable to use to restore the functioning of the knee joint were determined.

Background: Occupational injuries are common among law enforcement officers (LEOs) and can impact an agency's ability to serve communities. Workers' compensation (WC) data are an underutilized source for occupational injury surveillance in the law enforcement field., Methods: LEOs WC claims from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (OHBWC) from 2001 to 2019 were identified based on manual review of the occupation title and injury description. Worker, employer, incident, and injury characteristics were described by claim type-medical-only (MO) and lost-time (8 or more days away from work). Data are presented using injury claim counts., Results: From 2001 to 2019, 50,793 WC claims were identified among Ohio LEOs. Of these, 68% were MO claims (n = 34,622). WC claims significantly decreased over the 19-year period (p < 0.001). Seventy-five percent of WC claims were from a LEO with more than one claim and of these, 34% were from a LEO with five or more claims during the study period. Male officers and those aged 25-54 years incurred the highest proportion of total claims (87.8% & 91.8%, respectively). Violence (n = 17,247; 34%), falls/slips/trips (n = 9079; 17.9%), and transportation events (n = 7977; 15.7%) were the leading events. Among the 50,793 claims, there were 79,637 unique clinical diagnosis groups. The most common injury diagnoses were sprains (n = 32,796; 41.2%) followed by contusions (n = 13,529; 17%)., Conclusions: Results can guide the development or improvement of workplace injury prevention strategies for LEOs.
