2. Accusation as a Strategy to Discredit the Biden Administration in the American Media

The phenomenon of verbal aggression in political media journalism attracts the attention of researchers studying various confrontational speech strategies and tactics, including the strategy of discrediting, implemented primarily by the tactics of accusation. The article presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of accusation tactics implementing the speech and behavioral strategy of discrediting the Biden administration on the Tucker Carlson Tonight talk show. Speech strategies, techniques and linguistic means of implementing accusation tactics are revealed. The purpose of the article is to analyze the tactics of accusation that implement the speech and behavioral strategy of discrediting the Biden administration in the Tucker Carlson Tonight show. The source of the research material was the scripts of 31 Tucker Carlson Tonight shows. The empirical basis of the study was 205 contexts discrediting the Biden administration through accusation tactics. The methods of logic and statistics, the system and functional method, description and interpretation were used to analyze the material. The tactics of accusation are more often implemented through a group of explicit speech acts than implicit ones, while each group includes reasoned and undocumented accusations. Common and distinctive speech techniques, morphological, syntactic, lexical and expressive language tools were identified for these groups of speech acts. Statistical data on the analysis of accusation tactics implemented by groups of implicit and explicit speech acts can be presented in the form of a ratio of 1:1.5. Typical means of expression for explicit speech acts are phraseological units and slogans (reasoned and undocumented accusation), for implicit speech acts: hyperbole (reasoned accusation) and the technique of “inappropriate direct speech” (undocumented accusation). The means of expressive syntax are a distinctive feature of implicit and explicit undocumented accusation.

3. An Exploration of Chinese Language International Education Exchange and Cooperation Model Based on Random Forest Model

Chinese culture is always the eternal root of the Chinese nation and is an important language tool used in international exchanges between China and the rest of the world. As China’s status in the international arena has been enhanced in recent years, people from all over the world have become increasingly interested in the Chinese language, and more and more people are going to China to study it. Because of this, in recent years, the academic field has been researching the exchange and cooperation model of Chinese language international education, but most focus on quality rather than reality. This paper takes Chinese international education in colleges and universities as the research object and composes and summarizes the results of international scholars’ exploration of the exchange and cooperation model of Chinese international education. Based on the relevant theoretical foundation of the random forest algorithm; then, based on the previous research experience, four hypotheses are put forward on the influencing factors of the Chinese international education exchange and cooperation model, and combined with statistical theory, the correlation coefficient and visualization are used to demonstrate the size and direction of the correlation between each influencing factor and the Chinese international education exchange and cooperation model; then, the random forest algorithm is carried out from two perspectives of feature selection and weighted random forest Then, the random forest algorithm is optimised from two perspectives: feature selection and weighted random forest, and the model of Chinese international education exchange and cooperation is constructed, with the decidability coefficient (R2) as the evaluation index of model accuracy, and the mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) as the evaluation index of model error. The four hypothetical factors (AQI) indices were analyzed for 3, 6, and 9 years respectively. The results of this study show that the index analysis of the random forest algorithm-based model of Chinese language international education exchange and cooperation is highly evaluated. In the analysis of the AQI indices for 3, 6, and 9 years, the coefficient of decidability (R2) of the four models reached 0.84, 0.74, and 0.63, respectively, with an increase of 14.23% in the evaluation of the indicator coefficients, an average reduction of 5.77% in the mean absolute error (MAE) and an average reduction of 5.42% in the root mean square error (MAE). According to the above results, the random forest algorithm-based Chinese language international education exchange and cooperation model constructed in this paper possesses good correlation analysis, which promotes Chinese language international education exchange and cooperation and facilitates humanistic exchanges between China and other countries in the world to become more in-depth and the common development of the global economy.

4. Psychological Information in the Content of a Modern Journal

The article is the result of a study of the significance of expert psychological information, as well as information of a socio-psychological plan for journalistic materials; the work was carried out by the editorial office of Gatchinskaya Pravda newspaper (Leningrad Oblast). Psychological information in the media as an object of linguistic research has not been studied previously, the novelty of the work lies in the psycho-linguistic обapproach to the study of the question and to attempt correlation comparative studies of the authors with the study of peculiarities of perception of media texts of the contemporary audience. The article deals with verbal forms of social and psychological information presentation in the media, mainly in journal publications as a form of dialogue or monologue with the reader on a certain topic; the reasons for the audience’s access to psychological information in a modern magazine and the intent of the demand for texts containing such information are studied. To do this, we first studied the level of readers’ awareness of the types and forms of media information, as well as the degree of demand for knowledge of a socio-psychological orientation. The main object of research is language markers of psychological information. The relevance of the topic is explained by the great interest of magazine readers, as shown by media ratings, to psychological information. As part of the study of modern psychological techniques of media influence, the authors analyzed the results of research by psychologists and psychiatrists, who state an increase in the level of anxiety in the current psychological and emotional state of people. Doctors associate the causes of some anxiety disorders with the consumption of media information, the imposition of advice, recommendations, and lifestyle at the angle of presentation as psychological information. The article describes the results of media research; it is noted that information of a socio-psychological plan plays an important role in shaping the audience’s worldview and has a socio-psychological impact on it. The features and types of this influence are considered; the results of surveys of magazine readers are given, since the magazine is one of the mass media that publishes analytical and informative materials. The authors make an attempt to explain a certain degree of obsession with psychological information to the reader in the media; they indicate the reasons identified in the course of research for this communicative psychological strategy, bordering on and sometimes directly related to the manipulative actions of the author or publisher.

On New Manually Aligned and Tagged Bilingual Parallel Corpora and Their Applications This article is devoted to the manually aligned and tagged bilingual parallel CLARIN-PL-BIZ corpora of the Baltic and Slavic languages which are currently being developed. The study discusses the essential features of these corpora that make their applications go far beyond typical corpus analysis. Applications of these corpora include the design of cross-language models for the development of machine translation and artificial intelligence. The article also draws attention to the high potential of these resources as a model training base for testing natural language processing tools. O nowych ręcznie zrównoleglonych i znakowanych dwujęzycznych korpusach równoległych oraz ich zastosowaniach W artykule autor opisuje obecnie powstające ręcznie zrównoleglone i znakowane dwujęzyczne korpusy równoległe CLARIN-PL-BIZ języków bałtyckich i słowiańskich. Omawia wyróżniające cechy tych korpusów, które sprawią, że zastosowania tych korpusów znacznie wykroczą poza typowe analizy korpusowe. Wśród zastosowań tych korpusów autor wymienia definiowanie modeli międzyjęzykowych na rzecz rozwoju przekładu maszynowego i rozwoju sztucznej inteligencji. Zwraca również uwagę na wysoki potencjał tych zasobów jako wzorcowej bazy treningowej do testowania narzędzi przetwarzania języka naturalnego.

This article is devoted to the problem of studying the texts used to inform the consumer in detail about the drug. The texts of instructions for the use of drugs manufactured in Russia and abroad are analyzed. The question of introducing new approaches to the development of these texts in the field of domestic pharmacy is raised. The relevance of the study is due to the need to develop special tools to ensure the successful perception and understanding of these texts by drug users. The results of the analysis of some language tools and the features of the construction (architectonics) of these texts from the standpoint of perception and understanding of their contents by an addressee who does not have special knowledge in the field of medicine and pharmacy are presented. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of tools that facilitate the reading of these texts by a non-specialist. The similarities and differences in the use of these drugs in the texts of medicinal instructions in Russian and English are shown. The conclusion is drawn about the relationship between the presence or absence in the texts of medical instructions of certain language means and structural features and the nature of perception and understanding of these texts by the addressee.

The Langue Consulting Centre (LCC) has been providing its regular services for more than eighty years. The LCC improves its activities in the area of language consultation by using new technologies. The most recent outcome of the LCC is The Linguistically Structured Database of Enquiries (LSDE). The LSDE enables searching through user enquiries and the LCC's replies. This paper analyses users' needs connected with language resources and tools, based on enquiries related to their use. First, we examine the need for language resources, including the question of which of them users actually (want to) use, and why, and what they expect of them. Second, we focus on the enquirers' need to be able to use the appropriate language resources and tools properly, focusing on their interpretation of how the resources and tools are designed. Subsequently, the information about enquirers' needs is used to formulate specific proposals for language education activities, belonging to the field of language cultivation as well as lexicography. The article discusses the specific characteristics of the scientific style of speech and describes the language means by which the scientific style is implemented in professional writing in the English language. In the modern world in the conditions of dynamically developing technologies English becomes the language of advanced science, economy, politics and scientific and professional activity. Knowledge of the generally accepted and specific language characteristics of the scientific style, the ability to use them correctly in professional communication in English provides new opportunities in obtaining scientific information and researching by scientists some particular branches of knowledge. The article describes the style dominants reflecting typical standardized characteristics which are common to the scientific text in English and Russian. Special attention is paid to the comparative analysis of the language means of scientific style in the English and Russian languages that allows to identify patterns to be taken into account when translating the texts of this functional style.

In this paper we introduce the Kurdish BLARK (Basic Language Resource Kit). The original BLARK has not considered multi-dialect characteristics and generally has targeted reasonably well-resourced languages. To consider these two features, we extended BLARK and applied the proposed extension to Kurdish. Kurdish language not only faces a paucity in resources, but also embraces several dialects within a complex linguistic context. This paper presents the Kurdish BLARK and shows that from Natural language processing and computational linguistics perspectives the revised BLARK provides a more applicable view of languages with similar characteristics to Kurdish. Стаття присвячена дослідженню засобів створення ефектів об’єктивності в новинних статтях про коронавірус. В роботі теоретично обuрунтовані мовні засоби, що репрезентують ефекти об’єктивності, які дозволили класифікувати їх, відповідно до рівня ефекту об’єктивності. В статті практично підтверджено широке застосування мовних засобів, що репрезентують навмисне створений ефект об’єктивності у 25 новинних статтях ВВС, які ми проаналізували. Ми довели, що ефект об’єктивності в новинних статтях про коронавірус досягається через використання певних мовних засобів відповідно до ступеня ефекту об’єктивності: високого, середнього та низького. Це дослідження проілюструвало те, що новинні статті про коронавірус насправді є суб’єктивними, але їхня суб’єктивність замаскована за допомогою різноманітних лінгвістичних засобів, що створюють ефект об’єктивності. Серед них: подання статистики без посилання на будь-які джерела, кількісна характеристика з допомогою іменників множини, слів more/less, узагальнені обставини місця та часу, використання непрямої мови з униканням пригадування мовця або використання прямої мови - цитування. The article is devoted to the study of the means of creating objectivity effects in news articles about the coronavirus. The paper theoretically substantiates the linguistic means that represent the objectivity effects, which allowed to classify them according to the level of the objectivity effect. The article practically confirms the widespread use of language tools that represent the deliberately created objectivity effect in the 25 BBC news articles we have analyzed. We have shown that the objectivity effect in coronavirus news articles is achieved through the use of certain language tools according to the degree of objectivity effect: high, medium and low. This study illustrates that news articles about the coronavirus are in fact subjective, but their subjectivity is masked by a variety of linguistic means that create the objectivity effect. These include the presentation of statistics without reference to any source, quantitative characterization using plural nouns, words more / less, generalized circumstances of place and time, the use of indirect speech to avoid mentioning the speaker or the use of direct speech - citation.

В диссертационном исследовании осуществлен анализ англоязычных текстов документов международных организаций с точки зрения структурных, лексико-семантических, функционально-стилистических и дискурсных особенностей, что дало возможность определить документы международных организаций как вид политического текста в системе международно-правовых документов и межкультурной коммуникации. В процессе работы над исследованием автором усовершенствовано определение коммуникативного процесса через призму расширения участников коммуникации и ее трактовки не с позиции персонального актора, а относительно деятельности коллективных акторов в виде государств-участников коммуникативного процесса, целью которого является заключение международной сделки. Автором проведен анализ соотношения текста-дискурса через призму документов международных организаций и установлены взаимообусловленность и взаимозависимость этих элементов, – охарактеризовано употребление специальной лексики в текстах документов международных организаций и определена частотность употребления названий документов в зависимости от конкретных исторических обстоятельств. По итогам проведенного исследования автором было установлено, что: тексты документов международных организаций по своему содержанию являются политическими текстами, а по форме – документами дипломатично-регламентационного характера, являющимися одновременно результатом и средством воплощения политической воли государств для совместного решения проблем международных отношений, так как они создаются в результате политической коммуникации государств и других международных отношений и являются декларацией целей и механизмов деятельности институтов международного сотрудничества. Таким образом, в результате исследования было определено, что тексты документов международных организаций, как цельные единицы характерны для высокого уровня реализации текстовых категорий связности, целостности, информативности и завершенности. The dissertation research analyzes the English-language texts of documents of international organizations from the point of view of structural, lexical-semantic, functional-stylistic and discourse features, which made it possible to define documents of international organizations as a type of political text in the system of international legal documents and intercultural communication. In the process of working on the study, the author improved the definition of the communication process through the prism of expanding the participants in communication and its interpretation not from the position of a personal actor, but in relation to the activities of collective actors in the form of states participating in the communication process, the purpose of which is to conclude an international deal. The author analyzed the correlation of text-discourse through the prism of documents of international organizations and established the interdependence and interdependence of these elements, characterized the use of special vocabulary in the texts of documents of international organizations and determined the frequency of use of document names depending on specific historical circumstances. Based on the results of the study, the author found that: the texts of documents of international organizations are political texts in their content, and in form they are documents of a diplomatic and regulatory nature, which are both the result and means of embodying the political will of states to jointly solve the problems of international relations, since they are created as a result of political communication of states and other international relations and are a declaration of the goals and mechanisms of the activities of institutions of international cooperation. Thus, as a result of the study, it was determined that the texts of documents of international organizations, as integral units, are characteristic of a high level of implementation of textual categories of coherence, integrity, informativeness and completeness.

The project “Language guidance tool for improving language knowledge” (LanGuide) is supported by the Erasmus+ program Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education. The project duration is 36 months. The coordinating institution is the University of Primorska, and the partner institutions are Mälardalen University, the University of Castilla - La Mancha, Transilvania University of Brașov, and two Croatian universities — the University of Zadar, and the University of Rijeka. The main aim of the project is to build an open access students/teachers/administrative staff centered mobile app for improving language knowledge. To achieve the goal, the first phase of the project is concerned with the development of a universal methodology for the preparation of language exercises focused on language for specific purposes. In the second phase, the methodology is applied in the preparation of language resources for six languages in four LSP fields at different levels of difficulty. Appropriate IT tools are developed simultaneously with the preparation of exercises. Finally, the developed tools and resources are evaluated through two rounds of user testing. This paper first describes the motivation behind the project proposal. Next, each of the four intellectual outputs and activities carried out within the project are described. Finally, challenges such as the one brought about by the pandemic of COVID-19 are highlighted.

The report, based on the text of a fantasy novel, analyzes changes in the speech behavior of a character who has fallen from the world of magic into the world of our today’s life. Conclusions are drawn about the key phases of communicative adaptation and the effectiveness of the artistic method of transforming the character’s speech when modeling cross-cultural communication.

The purpose of our study is to identify the linguistic and stylistic features of autobiographical texts. Tasks that were solved in the course of the study:1. Determine criteria for selecting biographies of athletes.2. Conduct an editorial and linguo-stylistic analysis of selected publications.3. Perform a comparative analysis of publications.4. Give recommendations to editors on working with this genre of literature. The study was based on publications located on the website https://www.litres.ru/. A total of ten athlete biographies were selected and analyzed. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the fact that the mechanisms of editorial, linguo-stylistic and comparative analysis of biographies are determined. The practical significance of the study is determined by the fact that the features we have identified, the strengths and weaknesses of biographies, can be applied by editors in the preparation of publications.This study was conducted in order to identify the linguistic and stylistic features of the texts of autobiographies. Based on the results of the analysis, it was concluded that each biography has its own characteristics, there are errors in the text, as well as in translation. The first chapter covered the theoretical aspects of editorial, linguo-stylistic and comparative analysis. The concept of all three types of analysis was given. Editorial review is a predictive process performed by an editor, the purpose of which is to scrutinize the work proposed for publication, determine how it will affect the reader in general and in detail, and compare this effect with what the publisher is entitled to expect. based on information provided by the author.Linguistic and stylistic analysis is aimed at identifying the semantic and stylistic role of language means in order to reveal the artistic intention of the author and convey the idea of ââthe work to the reader. Comparative analysis is a technique aimed at identifying images, motifs, artistic techniques common to the analyzed texts, as well as explaining their differences, contributing to the further interpretation of the work.In the second chapter, the principles for selecting athletes' biographies were determined, and an editorial, linguo-stylistic and comparative analysis of each publication was carried out.Based on the results of the analysis, it was concluded that each biography has its own specific features, in some texts there are factual errors, as well as errors in translation. The work done by us may be useful in the preparation of subsequent editions. Since the noted features will allow you to prepare a better product that will meet the high requirements of the reader. Also, the materials of our work can be useful to the authors and allow them to make the works more perfect. I would like to note that it is precisely the understanding of the specifics of the linguistic and stylistic features of the biographies that we have examined that allows us to comprehensively study and evaluate the biographical material, its content and form. After all, one of the main tasks of the editor is a professional editorial evaluation of the work. Without a doubt, the analysis of works (biographical texts), our conclusions regarding the possibility of publication can be true only when the specialist has assessed the topic, factual material, composition, language, style, as well as the characteristics of the athlete's personality. The editor should focus on the final product, studying, evaluating and improving the work. The theme of all biographies is the history of the life and success of an athlete. The texts we have considered belong to the journalistic style. Types of texts can be divided into description, narration and reasoning. The sentences in these texts are mostly complex. Among the ways of connecting sentences, lexical repetition and chain synonymic were more common.The connection between paragraphs in all texts was found both chain and parallel. The texts also contain such stylistic figures as comparison, quotation, lexical repetitions, rhetorical questions, the authors use synonyms in order to most fully convey those feelings, emotions when they went to victory and eventually won it, or vice versa convey all the bitterness of defeat. The books are written in vivid, figurative language. The authors dynamically convey events, sometimes there is hyperbole, epithet, metaphors. Each author has his own style, his own style of narration.In our work, the biographical texts chosen by us were characterized from different angles, which corresponds to the work of the editor on the text of the publication. Â

On New Manually Aligned and Tagged Bilingual Parallel Corpora and Their ApplicationsThis article is devoted to the manually aligned and tagged bilingual parallel CLARIN-PL-BIZ corpora of the Baltic and Slavic languages which are currently being developed. The study discusses the essential features of these corpora that make their applications go far beyond typical corpus analysis. Applications of these corpora include the design of cross-language models for the development of machine translation and artificial intelligence. The article also draws attention to the high potential of these resources as a model training base for testing natural language processing tools. Omawia wyróżniające cechy tych korpusów, które sprawią, że zastosowania tych korpusów znacznie wykroczą poza typowe analizy korpusowe. Wśród zastosowań tych korpusów autor wymienia definiowanie modeli międzyjęzykowych na rzecz rozwoju przekładu maszynowego i rozwoju sztucznej inteligencji. V magistrskem delu sem se na podlagi teorije, dosedanjih raziskav in empiričnega dela podrobneje posvetila vidiku več- in raznojezičnosti v slovenskem izobraževalnem sistemu s poudarkom na stanju v pomurskih in podravskih OŠ in SŠ. Za natančno analizo sem v začetnem delu pregledala teorijo v zvezi z izbranim področjem tako na nacionalni kot evropski ravni. Izbrala sem dokumente, ki oblikujejo jezikovno politiko na področju izobraževanja v Sloveniji (učni načrt za slovenščino, Bela knjiga o vzgoji in izobraževanju, Resolucija o nacionalnem programu za jezikovno politiko 2021–2025), v evropskem okviru (SEJO, Okvir za izobraževanje in razvoj učiteljev jezikov, ROPP) ter tako predstavila ključne smernice, ki so vodilo učiteljem slovenščine in učiteljem jezikov nasploh. Vso pridobljeno strokovno podlago sem uporabila tudi v empiričnem delu. V raziskavi sem se osredotočila na učitelje slovenščine v Pomurju in Podravju in pridobila informacije o njihovem odnosu do več-, raznojezičnosti, predvsem pa izpostavila njihovo (ne)kompetentnost za poučevanje slovenščine v vse bolj jezikovno pestrem šolskem okolju. Moj cilj je bil prikazati realno stanje v zvezi s prisotnostjo jezikov in pestrostjo jezikovnih dejavnosti na dvojezičnem in enojezičnem območju v Pomurju in Podravju ter z obravnavano vsebino doprinesti k nadaljnjemu razvoju in krepitvi pozitivnega odnosa do slovenščine in jezikovne pestrosti v slovenskem izobraževalnem sistemu. V zaključku svojega dela tako podajam tudi kratko vodilo za delo učitelja slovenščine v konceptu večjezičnosti (kako in kaj poučevati), ki je oblikovano na podlagi analiziranih evropskih in nacionalnih dokumentov jezikovne politike ter konkretnih izkušenj učiteljev slovenščine. In this thesis, based on theory, research known to date and empirical work, I devoted close attention to the aspect of multilingualism and plurilingualism in the Slovenian education system with the emphasis on the situation in primary and secondary schools in Pomurje and Podravje. To ensure a detailed analysis, I begun by reviewing the theory related to the chosen field at both national and European levels. I have selected documents, that shape the language policy in the field of education in Slovenia (Syllabus for Slovene, “Bela knjiga o vzgoji in izobraževanju”, Resolution on the National Programme for Language Policy 2021-2025), on the European level (CEFR - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment “The Eaquals Framework For Language Teacher Training And Development” FREPA - A Framework of Reference for Pluralistic Approaches to Languages and Cultures Competences and resources) and thus presented key guidelines, which are used by Slovene language teachers and language teachers in general. All the acquired professional basis has been used in the empirical part. The focus of the research is on Slovene language teachers in Pomurje and Podravje. I obtained information on their attitude to the aspect of multilingualism and plurilingualism, and above all highlighted their (in)competence to teach Slovene in an increasingly linguistically diverse school environment. My goal was to present a realistic situation in regard to the presence of languages and diversity of language activities in bilingual and monolingual areas in Pomurje and Podravje and contribute to the further development and strengthening of a positive attitude towards Slovene and linguistic diversity in the Slovene education system with the discussed content. I conclude my thesis with a short guide for Slovene teachers in the concept of multilingualism (how and what to teach), which is based on analysed European and national documents of language policy and the experience of Slovene teachers specifically in the classroom.

The article deals with the semantic and stylistic realities of contemporary English-language journalism, briefly lists the main features and characteristics of the functional style of journalistic texts, outlines the techniques that are used in them, and names the particular qualities of their translation in Ukrainian language. Also there are given several examples of the usage of figures of speech and tropes in contemporary English-language journalism such as epithets, metaphors, stylistic comparisons, metonymies and allusions. Also the article provides an example of the difficulties of translation of aforementioned stylistic figures. The article brings the brief summarized data on the frequency of usage of the stylistic tropes and the figures showing the most productive and the least productive forms. The close relation between language of modern journalism and the cultural environment and impact of this factor during translation is also under consideration of the article. Moreover the article indicates priori conditions of translator language competence, as well as the problems arising on the translation of journalistic materials and ways of overcoming them. As the conclusion the article defines the main translation tasks and connects the methods of resolving the translation obstacles often arising during the translation of modern English-language journalistic texts with the solution of the main translation challenges.

This article is devoted to the manually aligned and tagged bilingual parallel CLARIN-PL-BIZ corpora of the Baltic and Slavic languages which are currently being developed. The study discusses the essential features of these corpora that make their applications go far beyond typical corpus analysis. Applications of these corpora include the design of cross-language models for the development of machine translation and artificial intelligence. Effective perception is possible with the active desire of the perceiver to understand the speech of the author of the statement and with the desire of the speaker to convey the meaning of the statement to the addressee. The addressee of the round table is the real person to whom the speaker addresses his speech. The article is devoted to the study of the role of the addressee in speech interaction for creating and maintaining successful communication of the round table. Croatiae auctores Latini (CroALa), a text collection first published in 2009, makes freely accessible Latin texts written by or about people of Croatian origin from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. The collection is intended primarily for scholars of Latin and neo-Latin literature and language and of Croatian history and culture. Texts are encoded in TEI XML and made searchable and readable online using PhiloLogic. This edition is intended to become a starting point and a useful tool for serious research, both traditional and digital. What can be done, besides adding more texts, to stimulate such research? This article describes the editors’ solutions in the following six areas: fine-tuning the metadata and user interface to enable grouping of texts by author, period, genre, theme; providing language tools for users; adding supplemental material and links; making citations of CroALa texts easier and providing hyperlinks between texts; digitizing and providing access to finding aids for effective search and retrieval; disseminating the texts in outside repositories. These enhancements are realized by XML encoding, XSLT stylesheets, and configuring PhiloLogic. These solutions are simple to implement and are within reach of an advanced, non-programmer computer user. The documentation of these solutions serves a twofold pedagogical purpose: first, to help newcomers find their way around the immense potential enabled by the TEI encoding scheme and, second, to encourage other humanities scholars to become makers—or, at least, adapters—of TEI-based digital tools. Simply put, if I did it, you can do it too!

The article discusses the specific characteristics of the scientific style of speech and describes the language means by which the scientific style is implemented in professional writing in the English language. In the modern world in the conditions of dynamically developing technologies English becomes the language of advanced science, economy, politics and scientific and professional activity. Knowledge of the generally accepted and specific language characteristics of the scientific style, the ability to use them correctly in professional communication in English provides new opportunities in obtaining scientific information and researching by scientists some particular branches of knowledge. The article describes the style dominants reflecting typical standardized characteristics which are common to the scientific text in English and Russian. Special attention is paid to the comparative analysis of the language means of scientific style in the English and Russian languages that allows to identify patterns to be taken into account when translating the texts of this functional style.

This article analyzes the psycholinguistic features of communicative behavior, speech style of two popular American TV hosts: Oprah Winfrey and Larry King. The material for the study was the interview of TV presenters, based on 50 interviews. A person’s personality can be considered as a carrier of a certain culture, an individual fragment or a part of а society, thus, speech behavior of the person, and specifically – the texts produced by him, can and should be searched in national-cultural, socially conditioned and individual components. The research is carried out in the direction of the actual modern science – gender linguistics and reveals the linguistic, psychological and ethnospecific features of the communicative style of American TV hosts. The author develops an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems at the intersection of Humanities: linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, genderology, journalism.As a result of the linguistic analysis, the author comes to the conclusion that the male style of interviewing Larry King is characterized by restraint, official style, clear structure of the interview; Oprah Winfrey’s speech style is characterized by emotionality, openness, characteristic of the conversational style of communication. However, the revealed gender features of the analyzed interviews do not affect the success of achieving the goals set by the interviewer. The presenter receives information through the use of psycholinguistic techniques. The result was a success regardless of the chosen tactics of negotiating in the analyzed interviews.

In this paper, we present the building of various language resources for a multi-engine bi-directional English-Filipino Machine Translation (MT) system. Since linguistics information on Philippine languages are available, but as of yet, the focus has been on theoretical linguistics and little is done on the computational aspects of these languages, attempts are reported here on the manual construction of these language resources such as the grammar, lexicon, morphological information, and the corpora which were literally built from almost non-existent digital forms. Due to the inherent difficulties of manual construction, we also discuss our experiments on various technologies for automatic extraction of these resources to handle the intricacies of the Filipino language, designed with the intention of using them for the MT system. To implement the different MT engines and to ensure the improvement of translation quality, other language tools (such as the morphological analyzer and generator, and the part of speech tagger) were developed. Predmet rada su slikovnice, odnosno jezik suvremenih dječjih slikovnica. Slikovnica s obzirom na važnost koju ima kao prva knjiga s kojom se dijete susreće mora ispunjavati ciljeve i funkcije koji će razvijati djetetov smisao za umjetnost i književnost, obogaćivati njegov rječnik, poticati dijete na čitanje, razmišljanje, povezivanje i buđenje raznih osjećaja. Funkcije slikovnice kao što su informacijsko-odgojna, spoznajna, iskustvena, estetska, zabavna i govorno-jezična, pomažu djetetu da kroz slike i tekst prilagođene njihovoj dobi stvaraju veze između stvari i pojava, razvijaju mišljenje, stvaraju poveznice u odnosu na obitelj i društvo i dolaze do saznanja o ispravnosti svojih spoznaja i stavova. Slikovnice služe djetetu kao igra i zabava kroz koju istovremeno stječu znanje. Spomenuto je postignuto u za analizu odabranim slikovnicama Nade Horvat. Slikovnice „Mica Šminkerica i njezini šeširi“, „Mica Krotiteljica Oblaka“, „Mica Debeljuca-Mršavica“ i „Mica Lažljivica“ oblikovane su jednostavnim jezikom koji sadrži uobičajena stilska (epiteti, metafora, hiperbola, personifikacija) i leksička sredstva (kolokvijalizmi, žargonizmi, frazemi) koja su primjerena dječjem uzrastu. Uz važnost odabira primjerenih jezičnih sredstava u radu se naglašava i šaljivi ton teksta čija je funkcija lakša recepcija oblikovanih sadržaja kod djece. The subject of this paper are picture books, that is, the language in contemporary picture books. Given its importance as a first book, a picture book has to fulfill the goals and functions that will develop the child's sense of art and literature, enrich his vocabulary, and encourage the child to read, think, connect and awaken various emotions. Different functions of picture books, such as information-education, cognitive, experiential, aesthetic, fun and spoken-linguistic function, help the child make connections between things and phenomena through images and text adapted to their age, to develop thinking, to make connections associated with family and society, and to come to know about the correctness of their cognitions and attitudes. Picture books serve the child as a game and fun through which they simultaneously acquire knowledge. The aforementioned was achieved in the selected picture books by Nada Horvat that were analyzed. Books “Mica Šminkerica i njezini šeširi”, “Mica Krotiteljica Oblaka”, “Mica Debeljuca-Mršavica” and “Mica Lažljivica” are written in a simple language that contains common stylistic (epithets, metaphor, hyperbole, personification) and lexical means (colloquialisms, jargon, phrases) appropriate to children's age. In addition to the importance of choosing appropriate language means, the work also emphasizes the humorous tone of text, whose function is to facilitate the reception of formatted content in children.

Une méthodologie issue de la traductologie génétique et un logiciel filmant le processus de traduction permettent d’observer l’influence de la consultation des sources sur la créativité traductive et de vérifier s’il y a une corrélation entre les segments riches en fréquence de consultation et le degré de créativité des solutions., Taking an autopoietic and heuristic approach, the translator aims to answer the question « How do I experience creation when I translate a literary text? ». With a methodology inspired by Genetic Translation Studies (Cordingley et Montini, 2015) and a screen caption software, this paper analyzes how the use of sources may influence creativity during the translation process, and whether there is a correlation between rich segments where many sources were consulted and how creative the solutions appear to be.

Background: The need to develop students’ socio-cultural competence is grounded in the socio-cultural framework which places a meaningful emphasis on interpersonal interaction as a significant motivating force of human learning and development. In this theoretical framework, ‘approaches’ and ‘principles’ of teaching foreign languages (FL) are viewed as the two essential methodology concepts affecting both FL learning and building socio-cultural competence. In a regular classroom, the suggestions to enhance socio-cultural competence through reading poetry are voiced. Socio-cultural implications for classroom activities include using specific approaches and principles which help identify a fundamental relationship between language and culture. Teaching a FL through poetry enables students to perceive the nature of the relationship between language and culture.Purpose: The article aims at selecting approaches to developing students’ socio-cultural competence in reading through poetry works. It presents the definitions, determines principles as well as provides analysis of the approaches in terms of their implementation in FL training. Results: The role played by culture and language in human development is an essential aspect of this research. The findings of the study prove that socio-cultural competence in reading emphasizes the interdependence of social and individual processes in the construction of FL knowledge. As a result of the research, this article shows that the theoretical basis is formed by the following approaches and principles in developing students’ socio-cultural competence in reading through poetry works: competency building, hermeneutic, communicative and country-study approaches. The article gives detailed analysis of each approach. The approaches and principles mentioned provide developing socio-linguistic competence in reading and can be integrated in the process of studying. Discussion: Authentic English poetry provides invaluable information about the life of British society. However, before using authentic poems in the classroom, they should be carefully selected against certain criteria of building socio-cultural competence in reading through poetry as well as pedagogical conditions which provide developing socio-cultural competence. Attention should be paid to motivate students’ interest towards the target culture enabling them to be culturally adequate speakers of English, У статті на основі наукової літератури визначено і детально проаналізовано підходи і принципи формування у майбутніх філологів лінгвосоціокультурної компетентності в читанні засобами поетичного твору. В результаті дослідження було обгрунтовано, що теоретичну основу формування лінгвосоціокультурної компетентності в читанні складають компетентнісний, герменевтичний, комунікативний та лінгвокраїнознавчий підходи, які інтегруються у процесі навчання.

The article deals with the linguodidactic and psychological-pedagogical aspects of the use of expressive linguistic means by younger students in texts of colloquial, artistic and popular scientific styles.The most favorable opportunities for the acquaintance and studying of the expressive possibilities of the linguistic units in the texts of different styles are determined.The peculiarities of the selection of linguistic means according to the purpose and sphere of communication are substantiated, as well as it is proved that the language is not only a means of transmission and reception of rational information, but also a means of expressing emotions.It has been established that the effectiveness of work on the use of expressive language means by pupils in expressive, artistic and journalistic style texts depends on taking into account linguodidactic aspects as well as psychological peculiarities.Recent linguistic studies show that the meaningfulness of the language, intonation, logical emphasis, and sonority are of great significance at the phonetic level. Lexical means of expressiveness are emotionally-colored words and expressions: epithets, metaphors,simile and others. Emotional influence amplifies phraseologisms, proverbs, sayings. Expressions contribute to syntactic means: repetitions, rhetorical sentences, and contrasts. The sociolinguistic situation in the Greek-speaking Republic of Cyprus is described as ‘diglossia’ (reviewed in Rowe & Grohmann, 2013). That is, the ‘high’ variety is Standard Modern Greek, whereas the ‘low’ variety is the vernacular, Cypriot Greek. The differences between the two varieties go beyond vocabulary, pronunciation and prosody components. Distinct differences between Cypriot Greek and Standard Modern Greek are lexical, phonetic and (morpho)phonological properties of the languages (e.g. Newton, 1972; Arvaniti, 2001; Petinou & Okalidou, 2006; Okalidou, et al., 2010). Given the complex linguistic situation in Cyprus, the language status of Greek Cypriot children is referred to as bilectalism (Rowe & Grohmann, 2013). This is the term used by language researchers for typical and atypical language acquisition (e.g. Kambanaros, et al., 2013; Antoniou, et al., 2016; Theodorou, et al., 2016; Theodorou, et al., 2017). Accordingly, children from Cypriot Greek-speaking environments, grow up with the dialect from birth and are exposed to Standard Modern Greek as a second language or ‘lect’ from an early age. Exposure to the latter comes mainly through children’s exposure to TV broadcasts, followed by formal educational instruction in school settings. Crucial to the study of developmental language disorder (DLD) in Cyprus is the need for appropriate identification using appropriate language assessment tools. In this context where the availability of norm-referenced language tools is sparse (Kambanaros & Grohmann, 2013) and the state does not clearly define access to services (Kambanaros & Grohmann, 2011; Theodorou, et al., 2016) there is a high risk of misdiagnosis.

The purpose of this study is to examine how preschool teachers work with an argumentative and alternative communication (ACC) and the importance of language tools for children’s language development. The study also aims to illuminate how the work with ACC is visible in the preschools physical activities and in the documentations as well as the importance it brings. To receive adequate information, interviews were held with active educationalist on how they observe ACC as stimulating tools for language development, if there are any differences in the use of language support depending on different situations and how the active work with language support is noticeable. The results among the interviewed preschool teachers shows a positive attitude towards the use of language support and that the methods are helpful and useful when educating the children. Results also shows that there is a common thread in the documentation work that extends from the work in groups with children in preschools up to the preschool managers.

The paper is devoted to the study of dialogism means in one of the most popular genres of journalism today – interviews. The dialogue form of this journalistic text type determines the choice of language means, which allows us to talk about the general principles of communication between the journalist and the interviewee. At the same time, the peculiarities of language means’ functioning are caused by other factors: the information policy of the publication, the author’s (interviewer’s) intentions, the conversation topic, the respondent’s personality. Comparative analysis of interviews published in “Arguments and facts”, one of the most popular Russian publications, allows us to determine different types of dialogism in media linguistics aspect. Particular attention is paid to the so-called two-level dialogues: the first level is the question-answer format of communication between the journalist (interviewer) and the interlocutor (interviewee); the second level is a more complex communicative act – the dialogue with the audience.

Denna studie undersöker erfarenhetens betydelse för lärande utifrån ett pedagogiskt perspektiv. Detta för att det i Sverige råder en ”poliskris” då erfarna och kompetenta poliser lämnar sin tjänst av andra skäl än pension. Svenska polisförbundet (2017) menar att förlusten av erfarna poliser medför konsekvenser för ett effektivt utfört polisarbete. Vad betyder då förlusten av erfarna kollegor utifrån ett lärandeperspektiv? Föreliggande examensarbetes syfte är att undersöka polisers upplevelser av yrkeserfarenhetens betydelse för lärande i arbetet. Studien är genomförd med en kvalitativ metod och använde sig av intervjuformen fokusgruppintervju för att samla in data. Analysmetod var en kvalitativ innehållsanalys och bearbetad data tolkades genom ett sociokulturellt perspektiv på lärande. Resultatet visar att yrkeserfarenhet inom yrkesutövningen är betydelsefull för lärande, både för egenupplevda erfarenheter och genom att kollegors erfarenheter och yrkeskunskaper bidrar till eget lärande. Studiens slutsats är att erfarna poliser behövs i tjänst; om de slutar är det en förlust för verksamheten utifrån ett pedagogiskt lärandeperspektiv.

Статтю присвячено дослідженню стилістичних засобів, використаних В. Самійленком під час перекладу вірша Дж. Байрона “My soul is dark”. Стилістичні засоби є надзвичайно важливим інструментом мови, що особливо помітно в художньому стилі, який є найбільш нестійким і найменш унормованим з-поміж усіх стилів літературної мови. Приклади, наведені у статті, доводять, що художній стиль дозволяє відступати від фонетичних, лексичних, синтаксичних та низки інших мовних норм. Статья посвящена исследованию стилистических средств, использованных В.Самийленко при переводе стихотворения Дж. Байрона “My soul is dark”. Стилистические средства являются чрезвычайно важным инструментом языка, что особенно заметно в художественном стиле, который является наиболее неустойчивым и наименее нормативным из всех стилей литературного языка. Примеры, приведенные в статье, показывают, что художественный стиль позволяет отступать от фонетических, лексических, синтаксических и ряда других языковых норм. The article is devoted to the study of stylistic devices, used by V. Samiylenko in the translation of J. Byron’s “My soul is dark”. Stylistic tools are an extremely important tool of language, which is especially noticeable in the artistic style, which is the least standard among all the styles of literary language. The examples given in the article prove, that the artistic style gives an opportunity to use a number of other linguistic norms apart from the phonetic, lexical and syntactic ones.

The aim of this work is to analyse the use of language tools of hosts of the DVTV journalistic videochannel. It addresses mainly deflections from the use of standard language, to be more specific, the use of colloquial and literary terms. It also focuses on expressive words, slang, neologisms and on expressions created within the journalistic environment, the so called publicisms. The thesis includes the description of other language phenomena specific for each host - Daniela Drtinová, Martin Veselovský and Filip Horký. The analysis also deals with figurative expressions and phrases in the speech of all hosts. To a limited extent, it focuses on the acoustic side of language, mainly on wrong pronunciation and the pace of speech of the hosts. The work contains a chapter on the theory of speech acts, which was developed by a British philosopher John Langshaw Austin. Within this matter, it focuses mainly on the occurrence of illocutionary and perlocutionary acts in the interviews. In the cases of Drtinová and Veselovský the interviews are divided into four categories: interviews with politician, specialist, artist and sportsman. Each category is specific in the use of language tools. In case of Horký, due to the limited amount, the interviews are analysed all together.

Анализ подборки новостей «Яндекс» позволяет сопоставить заголовки новостных материалов с общим информационным поводом в изданиях разных типов (федеральных и региональных, российских и зарубежных) и выявить языковые средства создания заголовков, по-разному интерпретирующих новостной повод и обладающих разным манипулятивным потенциалом.
