The lamprophyric rocks are uncommon volatile-rich melanocratic porphyritic rocks which contain only mafic phenocrysts. The felsic minerals are confined in the groundmass. They occur as dikes, sills and diatremes. The lamprophyric rocks are sometimes associated with diamond deposits. This review article discusses the ongoing debate in igneous petrology regarding the classification of lamprophyric rocks, specifically the Lamprophyre clan vs Lamprophyre facies problem. The background of this debate is rooted in conflicting interpretations of the classification of these rocks, with some researchers grouping them into a super-group called the “Lamprophyre clan” while others emphasize the distinction between the different types of these rocks (Lamprophyre facies). The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of relevant literature and propose a more inclusive petrological classification system for lamprophyric rocks by considering the geological setting, petrography, texture, mineralogy, whole-rock geochemistry and isotopic analysis of the various kimberlites, orangeites, lamproites, para-lamproites, calc-alkaline, alkaline and ultramafic lamprophyres. Lastly, the diamond potential is also taken into account. The implications of this study are significant for the international geological community. It proposes the adoption by the IUGS TGIR of both the Lamprophyre clan (as updated by Kamvisis & Phani, 2022, i.e. genetically interrelated rocks) and Lamprophyre facies (as suggested by Mitchell, 1994, i.e. rocks that formed under volatile-rich conditions) concepts to achieve a more widespread consensus among igneous petrologists. Both terms can be correct but they represent different perspectives in the study of these exotic rocks.

Koh-i-Noor and other world-famous diamonds such as Hope, Orloff, Great Mogul, Nizam, and Pitt, well-known in the industry as 'Golkonda Diamonds' are very well recognised for their rare colours, large carat sizes, and because of the paucity of nitrogen atoms majority of them have been classified as Type IIa diamonds. These renowned Golkonda diamonds were recovered from placers mined on the banks of the Krishna River in southern India; however, their primary source rocks (either kimberlites or lamproites) remain questioned and untraced. Precise identification of the primary sources of such large-sized, dominantly Type IIa diamonds (i.e., CLIPPIRS) is crucial for understanding their deep mantle origin, nature and timing of magmatism carrying them and essential from economic and geological perspectives. We employed a multidisciplinary approach incorporating xenocrystic mineral composition and bulk-rock geochemistry, field geological and remote sensing (GIS) studies to locate the probable primary sources of these renowned diamonds, know the origin of Type IIa Golkonda diamonds in southern India, and to understand the mechanism and timing of diamond transport and dispersal as placers in the Krishna River basin. Our study rules out the possibility of various lamproite occurrences of the Eastern Dharwar Craton and Banganapalle conglomerates as being sources of Koh-i-Noor and other Golkonda diamonds. The absence of Type IIa diamonds in the highly diamondiferous Late Cretaceous kimberlites of Wajrakarur likewise excludes them as source of Golkonda diamonds. Among southern India's two significant kimberlite fields, i.e., Wajrakarur and Narayanpet, compositions of indicator minerals from the Wajrakarur Kimberlite Field (WKF) reveal their ultimate diamond preservation potential, presence of strong diamondiferous mantle roots and deeper source regions, hence recognising them to be the potential sources of Golkonda diamonds. GIS and remote sensing tools were used to calculate moisture content, vegetation indices, and to locate paleo-channel of the Penner River, which was primarily responsible for the transportation of diamonds from their Mesoproterozoic (ca. 1.1 Ga) source rocks at Wajrakarur to their final sites of recovery, i.e., Kolluru and other mines situated on the banks of the Krishna River. The occurrence of alluvial placer deposits in Krishna River drainage system is analogous to the Orange River drainage system in South Africa. Both areas have diamonds sourced from primary kimberlite pipes, transported by rivers, and deposited in specific areas. Similarities in the origin, mechanism of diamond transport, dispersal and deposition have played a crucial role in significant diamond production from alluvial deposits in Krishna and Orange Rivers. This study presents a geophysical investigation of the lamproite fields located in the Dharwar craton, aiming to map conductivity variations using contemporary techniques. The study employs very low-frequency electromagnetic (VLF-EM) methods, applying Hilbert transformations, and first-order vertical derivatives to the Fraser and Karous–Hjelt filtered contoured of VLF-EM data. The peninsular gneissic complex (PGC) granitic rocks in the study area experienced tectonic forces, resulting in fractures along specific WNW–ESE to NW–SE trends. Within these crustal weak zones, these lamproites are emplaced. The lamproite pipes are volcanic rocks. As a result, the top portions are weathered and tend to conductive, and the conductivity tends to decrease with depth. The volumetric size of lamproites ranges from centimetres to hundreds of metres, unlike kimberlites that are larger. Hence, the exploration of lamproites poses challenges. The contours of in-phase and quadrature components were used to identify the cluster of lamproite zones within the study area. From this study, the boundaries of the lamproite pipes were clearly identified using real component's analytical and first-order vertical derivative signal contour maps. The VLF-EM pseudo-depth current density section was used to identify anomalous lamproite, pipes, and their subsurface extensions, along with the surrounding formations. The current investigation findings specify that the lamproites exhibit weak conductive. These results provide valuable insights for exploration efforts within the Dharwar craton, and can aid in the identification and mapping of the lamproite fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The 17.44 Ma Walgidee Hills lamproite in the West Kimberley province of Western Australia is the type locality for several K-, Ba- and Ti-rich minerals characteristic of lamproites and, at 490 ha, the largest known lamproite. The Walgidee Hills pipe comprises a thin sequence of tuffs and breccia formed by explosive eruptions that excavated a large shallow crater that was infilled by lamproite magma which cooled and crystallised in situ. The lamproite is zoned in grain size, mineralogy, and mineral and rock composition from porphyritic olivine lamproite at the margin through medium-grained lamproite comprised of olivine (altered), titanian phlogopite, diopside, leucite (altered) and titanian potassic richterite to coarse gained lamproite rich in potassic richterite, priderite, jeppeite, perovskite, apatite, wadeite and noonkanbahite at the centre of the body. Compositional zoning is evident across the lamproite in phlogopite (to lower Mg and Al, higher Fe), potassic richterite (to higher Fe and Na, lower Ti), priderite (to lower Cr) and perovskite (to lower Cr and Fe, higher Na, Sr, Y, Nb, U, REE). The Walgidee Hills lamproite is ultrapotassic and ranges from olivine lamproite (up to ~21 wt % MgO, ~800 μg/g Ni, ~4 wt % K2O) to sanidine/leucite-rich lamproite (~7 wt % MgO, ≤100 μg/g Ni, ~8 wt % K2O) at the centre of the pipe. The lamproite has low Al2O3, total Fe, Na2O and CaO (except for intensely carbonate-veined rocks at the centre) and is highly enriched in TiO2 (3–6.5 wt %), Ba, Rb, Sr, Zr and LREE (LaN = 150–520 x primitive mantle). A transect and geochemical contours show MgO, Ni and Cr contents decrease and P, K, Ti, Fe, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, REE, Hf, Pb, Th and U abundances increase inwards to the most evolved rocks at the centre of the pipe, consistent with fractionation by inwards in situ crystallisation. The parent magma is estimated from the composition of the porphyritic olivine lamproite at the margins of the pipe to have ~16 ± 1 wt % MgO, ~600 μg/g Ni, ~6 wt % K2O with La/Yb ~ 150. Modelling suggests that the most MgO-rich lamproites result from entrainment of ~15–20 wt % mantle olivine in the parent magma. Cooling of the magma resulted in fractional crystallisation of olivine and in situ crystallisation with the evolved coarse-grained lamproites at the centre of the pipe crystallised from residual magma enriched in the more incompatible elements. Mantle xenocrysts include abundant Cr–Al spinel, chrome diopside, chrome pyrope, and rare diamond. Thermobarometry on the Cr diopside xenocrysts defines a cold paleogeotherm of ~38 mW/m2 and a thick lithosphere (~235 km) extending from the Kimberley craton. Many of the Cr diopsides from the deeper lithospheric mantle are enriched in K, Ba and LREE and these, and the Ti-rich spinel xenocrysts, are inferred to be derived from metasomatised mantle peridotite. The enriched trace element and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic signatures of the Walgidee Hills lamproite suggest derivation from or extensive incorporation of ancient formerly depleted lithospheric mantle that has undergone metasomatism and long term (≥2 Ga) geochemical enrichment including by melts from Paleoproterozoic subducted crust. The continental lithospheric mantle (CLM) beneath the southern margin of the Congo craton has remained elusive, mainly because of the thick Phanerozoic sedimentary cover concealing possible kimberlite and lamproite diatremes. In this study, we explore this lithospheric mantle section using major and trace element compositions of mantle-derived clinopyroxene and garnet xenocrysts from kimberlites of the ca. 84 Ma Nxau Nxau cluster in northwest (NW) Botswana, which is part of the poorly known Xaudum kimberlite province extending into northern Namibia. We utilize these data to better understand the thermal and compositional evolution of the lithospheric mantle at the southern margin of the Congo craton. The clinopyroxene population (83 individual grains) comprises Cr-rich and Cr-poor diopsides with variable major (Al2O3, Na2O, Mg#) and incompatible trace element (U, Th, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, REEs) compositions. The large garnet population studied (496 individual grains) is dominated by lherzolitic G9 (38%) and 'megacrystic' G1 (41%) compositions, with minor contributions from Ti-metasomatized G11 (7%) and eclogitic G3 (6%) cratonic mantle sources. Harzburgitic G10 garnet is very rare (two grains only), consistent with a lherzolite-dominated CLM section in a craton margin position. The eclogitic garnet population has compositions similar to garnet from high-Mg cratonic mantle eclogite xenoliths, and such compositions have recently been interpreted as metasomatic in origin within the mantle xenoliths literature. Pressure–temperature calculations using the single-grain clinopyroxene technique reveal a relatively cold cratonic geotherm of 37–38 mW/m2 for the study region during the Late Mesozoic. For peridotitic garnets, projections of calculated Ni-in-garnet temperatures onto the independently constrained regional conductive geotherm suggest that lherzolite dominates at <145 km depth, whereas high-Ti lherzolitic G11 garnets and 'megacrystic' G1 garnets originate mostly from greater depths, reaching down to the lithosphere base at 150 to 210 km depth. The apparent confinement of 'megacrystic' G1 garnet to the bottom of the lithosphere suggests formation from infiltrating asthenosphere-derived proto-kimberlite liquids during melt–rock interactions. In general, the data suggest that the CLM beneath NW Botswana is depleted to about 145 km depth, and between 145 and 210 km depth, a thick metasomatized layer is identified, representing the transition into the underlying asthenosphere. A relatively thin lithosphere beneath NW Botswana is consistent with the proposed craton margin setting, especially when compared with the thicker cratonic roots beneath the central regions of the Congo and Kalahari cratons in Angola and South Africa, respectively, reaching down to 250 km depth and possibly even deeper. The compositional dissimilarity between the deepest-derived garnets from kimberlites in NW Botswana (i.e. from the diamond stability field) and garnets that occur as inclusions in diamond from cratons worldwide suggests extensive overprinting of the lowermost cratonic lithosphere by oxidative melt-related metasomatism. This finding, together with the very low diamond grades of the Xaudum kimberlites, points to a diminished diamond potential of the large and mostly unexposed 'cratonic' region (e.g. covered by thick desert sand) located between the major diamond mining districts of the Congo craton to the north (e.g. Catoca) and the Kalahari craton to the south (e.g. Orapa and Jwaneng). Detailed textural and compositional study of calc-alkaline lamprophyres and minettes from Zeneta, SE Spain Neogene Volcanic Province (NVP) are used to unravel the magma sources and differentiation processes involved in their formation. The presence of xenocrysts of various origins indicates a hybrid nature involving mantle-derived alkaline lamproitic and continental crust-derived granitic parental magmas. A new U-Th-Pb zircon age of Zeneta minettes allows contextualizing their generation in time and space during regional lamproite magma intrusion and crustal anatexis in the NVP. Interaction and mixing of these compositionally contrasted magmas resulted in the formation of hybrid calc-alkaline lamprophyre minette. This process is reflected by the phases that crystallized from the hybrid magma, particularly phlogopite, and by the whole-rock composition of the less fractionated rocks. The calculated contribution of lamproitic and crustal-derived magma end-members in minette formation are 30–40% and 60–70%, respectively. Mixing of end-member magmas of contrasting rheological properties was possible only in a calculated thermal-window of 1025–1125°C, after cooling of intruding lamproitic magma and heating of host granitic anatectic region. The calculated thermal window fits with the estimated rheological properties of Zeneta minettes and the crystallization temperature of early minette-derived phlogopite. Furthermore, fractional crystallization was identified for the first time in the Zeneta minettes, based on the observed whole-rock line of descent from the less evolved mixed magmas through intermediate to felsic minettes and associated textural and compositional features of late crystallized phases. Polytope Vector Analysis allowed an integrated quantitative characterization of magma differentiation, including magma mixing and subsequent fractional crystallization. The identification of mixing and fractionation processes in calc-alkaline minettes genesis, which otherwise does not show spatial and temporal association in the field with granitic bodies, opens a new scenario to be considered in understanding the petrogenesis of these rocks. Despite over 400 occurrences of kimberlites and related rocks in India, mantle-derived xenoliths are known only from a few occurrences. This paucity of mantle-derived xenoliths in Indian kimberlites has hampered investigations of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM). Using a valuable selection of the rare xenolith inventory, we here report Fe3+/ΣFe measurements for garnets using the electron microprobe (EPMA) flank method, targeting six mantle eclogite xenoliths (KL2 pipe) and fourteen peridotitic garnet xenocrysts (P9 and P10 hypabyssal intrusions) from the Wajrakarur kimberlite field (WKF) on the Eastern Dharwar craton (EDC). These data provide some of the first direct constraints on the oxygen fugacity (fO2) of the lithospheric mantle beneath the Indian subcontinent. The measured Fe3+/ΣFe ratios vary between 0.02 and 0.05 (± 0.01) for the eclogite xenoliths and between 0.02 and 0.10 (± 0.01) for the peridotitic garnets. Calculated ΔlogfO2 values for the KL2 eclogites show a wide range from FMQ-3.9 to FMQ-0.9 (± 0.6), straddling the boundary between the diamond and carbonate stability fields. In terms of redox compositions, it appears that the KL2 eclogites are able to host diamond, which is consistent with the diamondiferous nature of this particular WKF locality and the presence of eclogitic garnet inclusions in diamonds from the nearby TK4 kimberlite body. The peridotitic garnet xenocrysts from the P9 and P10 kimberlite bodies, which were entrained between ~ 125 and 170 km depth, reveal ΔlogfO2 values between FMQ-4.5 and FMQ-2.6 (± 0.9). Garnet xenocrysts with 'normal' REE patterns exhibit higher Fe3+/ΣFe ratios compared to garnets with 'sinusoidal' REE patterns. Importantly, the Fe3+/ΣFe ratios of garnet xenocrysts with 'normal' REE patterns (~ 125–160 km depth) correlate with metasomatic Ti–Y–Zr–V enrichment, which suggests metasomatism-driven oxidation of the cratonic mantle at mid-lithospheric depths. Such melt-related mantle metasomatism was probably diamond-destructive within the otherwise diamond-fertile lithospheric keel. The observed wide range of ΔlogfO2 values for the Dharwar cratonic mantle lithosphere allows for stabilization of various metasomatic phases (e.g., amphiboles, micas, carbonates) that may have formed (or concentrated in) distinctly different metasome assemblages within the continental root that underpins Peninsular India. Changing the relative contributions from such highly diverse volatile-rich metasomes may explain the spatiotemporal association of kimberlites and various diamond-bearing potassic magma types such as orangeites, ultramafic lamprophyres and lamproites, a scenario that is influenced by the redox composition of the Dharwar craton root. Argyle is the world's largest source of natural diamonds, yet one of only a few economic deposits hosted in a Paleoproterozoic orogen. The geodynamic triggers responsible for its alkaline ultramafic volcanic host are unknown. Here we show, using U-Pb and (U-Th)/He geochronology of detrital apatite and detrital zircon, and U-Pb dating of hydrothermal titanite, that emplacement of the Argyle lamproite is bracketed between 1311 ± 9 Ma and 1257 ± 15 Ma (2σ), older than previously known. To form the Argyle lamproite diatreme complex, emplacement was likely driven by lithospheric extension related to the breakup of the supercontinent Nuna. Extension facilitated production of low-degree partial melts and their migration through transcrustal corridors in the Paleoproterozoic Halls Creek Orogen, a rheologically-weak rift zone adjacent to the Kimberley Craton. Diamondiferous diatreme emplacement during (super)continental breakup may be prevalent but hitherto under-recognized in rift zones at the edges of ancient continental blocks. The Argyle deposit erupted 1.3 billion years ago into an ancient rift at the edge of a craton. Abstract The Alfeu-I lamproite is one of the few alkaline rock occurrences in the South of Brazil that represents the alkaline event related to the South Atlantic opening and the enormous magmatic activity that formed the Paraná basalts. Alfeu-I lamproite is a diatreme facies and exhibits an inequigranular texture with macrocrysts of mica, spinel, garnet, and ilmenite and microcrysts of mica, pyroxene, and rare olivine, all immersed in a groundmass of pyroxene, spinel, perovskite, rutile, ilmenite, and, more rarely, olivine. Major element compositions of Alfeu-I pyroxene, garnet, ilmenite, mica, and olivine were determined by electron microprobe analyses, and trace element concentrations of clinopyroxene, garnet, ilmenite, and mica were measured using laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry techniques. Temperature, pressure, and oxygen fugacity (fO2) conditions during the crystallization of Alfeu-I lamproite were calculated with the geothermobarometers and olivine, spinel, garnet, and orthopyroxene. The resulting mean equilibrium temperature ranges from 1375°C at 4 GPa to 1395°C at 5 GPa, whereas the fO2 points to ΔFMQ = +2.4 (at 4 GPa) and ΔFMQ = +2.2 (at 5 GPa). Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd isotopic data together with the trace element concentrations of minerals suggest that melting of a mantle source enriched in incompatible elements and volatiles due to previous subduction events occurred during the Gondwana breakup around 125 Ma ago. Fluids that may have originated from subducting slabs in the old subduction zone are probably the cause of the high fO2 conditions in Alfeu-I lamproite.

'Transitional kimberlite' is a collective term previously used to classify rocks occurring in southern Africa that show bulk rock geochemical and Sr–Nd isotope features intermediate between (cratonic) lamproites and kimberlites. However, it is now well established that detailed petrographic and mineral chemical criteria represent a more robust approach towards the classification of kimberlites, lamproites and related rocks. Here, we re-assess the classification of southern African 'transitional kimberlites' by combining new petrographic observations and mineral compositional results for samples from six localities (Leicester, Frank Smith, Wimbledon, Melton Wold, Droogfontein, and Silvery Home) straddling the southwestern margin of the Kaapvaal Craton. These new data indicate that Leicester and Frank Smith are archetypal kimberlites, whereas Wimbledon, Melton Wold, Droogfontein, and Silvery Home represent bona fide olivine lamproites. We combine the mineral chemical results with new (Wimbledon) and existing bulk rock trace element and Nd–Hf isotope compositions, and emplacement ages, to assess whether the previously documented trends in Nd–Hf isotope vs time for these 'transitional kimberlites' constrain their petrological evolution. Modal groundmass mineralogy, bulk rock K/La and chromite compositions, the latter being a proxy for primitive melt composition, are linearly correlated with emplacement age and initial Nd–Hf isotope compositions. These observations suggest derivation of both older lamproites (181–115 Ma) and younger kimberlites (114–93 Ma), from a common evolving source. The temporal evolution of Nd–Hf isotope compositions in these rocks converge to values typical of archetypal Cretaceous kimberlites elsewhere in the Kaapvaal Craton, but are clearly different from the isotopic compositions of on-craton Kaapvaal lamproites (previously known as orangeites). This observation distinguishes the petrogenesis of the Wimbledon, Melton Wold, Droogfontein, and Silvery Home lamproites from those of 'typical' Kaapvaal lamproites. We hypothesize that progressive consumption of enriched and hence fertile K-bearing components in a common sub-lithospheric (i.e. convective mantle) source beneath the southwestern margin of the Kaapvaal Craton might represent a plausible scenario to explain the temporal evolution of petrographic and geochemical traits of the examined lamproites and kimberlites. A source in the lithospheric mantle is considered at odds with the contrasting location of the current localities as they occur both off- and on-craton. Migration of the African plate between 180 and 90 Ma over a relatively stationary convective mantle (plume?) source is not compatible with the spatial–temporal distribution of 'transitional kimberlites'. Instead, we invoke viscous coupling between an upper asthenospheric source and the lithosphere to reconcile a single evolving source with the geographic and age distribution of these rocks. We identified a ca. 180 Ma diamondiferous lamproite event in Zambia, establishing a link between ultrapotassic volcanism and the early Jurassic Karoo flood basalt province of sub-Saharan Africa. The cratonic lamproites erupted through the Permo–Triassic Luangwa Rift structure, but MgO-rich ultrapotassic magma formation was unrelated to rifting and triggered by plume–lithosphere interactions during the Karoo LIP event. Elevated Li–Zn–Ti concentrations in magmatic olivine (up to 18.5 ppm Li at 86–90 mol.% forsterite) and strong Sr–Nd–Hf–Pb isotopic enrichment of the host lamproites (87Sr/86Sr = 0.70701–0.70855, εNd = −10.8 to −10, εHf = −20.3 to −19.1, 206Pb/204Pb = 16.8–17.5) suggest partial melting of phlogopite-metasomatized lithospheric mantle domains, at approximately 180–200 km depth. The mantle-like δ7Li values (+2.8 to +5.7‰) of the most pristine lamproite samples are compatible with source enrichment by asthenosphere-derived melts, without significant involvement of recycled sedimentary components. This geochemical fingerprint stands in sharp contrast to the negative δ7Li compositions of primitive K-rich volcanic rocks from collision zone settings, where the shallow mantle sources contain recycled sediment. Isotope modelling demonstrates that the sub-Saharan lamproites originate from a MARID-style metasomatized peridotitic mantle source that underwent incompatible element enrichment at ca. 1 Ga, during tectonic activity associated with Rodinia supercontinent formation. Plume-sourced basaltic and picritic magmas of the 180 Ma Karoo LIP interacted with such K-rich hydrous lithospheric mantle domains, thereby attaining enriched incompatible element and radiogenic isotope compositions. Nd–Hf isotope mass balance suggests that up to 25% of MARID-sourced lamproite melt component contributed to some of the high-Ti flood volcanic units. Although large quantities of volatiles can be transferred from Earth's mantle to the atmosphere via plume–lithosphere interactions, it is unlikely that outgassing of mantle-sourced sulphur can exceed the climatic impact caused by the release of much more abundant carbon from thick continental roots. Thus, the excess SO 2 required to account for transient atmospheric cooling during the early Jurassic, coincident with the Karoo LIP event, must have had a thermogenic origin near the surface of Earth. The accurate and precise determination of the compositions of silicate glasses formed from melts containing volatile components H2O and CO2 recovered from high-pressure, high-temperature experiments is essential to our understanding of geodynamic processes taking place within the planet. Silicate melts are often difficult to analyze chemically because the formation of quench crystals and overgrowths on silicate phases is rapid and widespread upon quenching of experiments, preventing the formation of glasses in low-SiO2 and volatile-rich compositions. Here, we present experiments conducted in a novel rapid quench piston cylinder apparatus on a series of partially molten low-silica alkaline rock compositions (lamproite, basanite, and calk-alkaline basalt) with a range of water contents between 3.5 and 10 wt %. Quench modification of the volatile-bearing silicate glasses is significantly reduced compared to those produced in older piston cylinder apparatuses. The recovered glasses are almost completely free of quench modification and facilitate the determination of precise chemical compositions. We illustrate significantly improved quench textures and provide an analytical protocol that recovers accurate chemical compositions from both poorly quenched and well-quenched silicate glasses. Transitional boundaries of the craton and mobile belt mark diverse and long‐term tectono‐thermal events like hot and cold lithospheric contact, back‐arc‐type subduction, and also constitute a favourable locale for metallogeny. The exact nature and origin of such metallogenic enrichment in the lithospheric mantle source beneath contact zones are still uncertain. The contact of Bastar Craton and the Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB), India, provides an ideal geological setup to study the metallogenic enrichment processes. In this study, we present a detailed petrographic and mineralogical investigation of various iron oxide phases and titanites in spatially and temporally distinct lamprophyre and mafic dykes from the diamondiferous Nuapada Lamproite Field (NLF) at the contact between Bastar Craton and EGMB. Diverse textural assemblages of oxides, namely, trellis, sandwich‐type exsolutions and reaction–replacement, are widespread. Ilmenites, magnetites and titanites from the mafic dykes as well as lamprophyre exhibit an anomalous enrichment of vanadium (V2O3 up to 3.7 wt%), whereas ilmenites are also characterized by their elevated manganese content (MnO up to 3.8 wt%). Mineral chemistry‐based plots and thermo‐oximetric studies suggest the magmatic origin of iron oxides belonging to the Fe–Ti–V‐type ore in which partitioning and sequestration of the elements were controlled by differential crystallization, exsolution and fractionation rather than any imprints of contamination. Multiphase sequestration of vanadium as well as manganese in lamprophyre and mafic dykes, separated in space as well in relative depths of origin, signifies the presence of a fertile mantle. The role of subduction‐derived metasomatized fluids as a causative factor of vanadium metallogeny in this domain is evaluated. Abstract—The paper demonstrates the possibility of application of the 143Nd/144Nd–Sm/Nd and Nb/Y–Zr/Y diagrams to systematics of basic–ultrabasic complexes of different age: Paleozoic Kalinovsky, Cambrian Sergeevsky and Vladimiro-Aleksandrovsky, and Jurassic and Paleocene ones. The position of data points of the Kalinovsky, Sergeevsky, and Vladimiro-Aleksandrovsky complexes in the diagrams indicates their derivation from a primitive mantle-type (BSE) source, the derivatives of which are frequently associated with Cu, Ni, Co, and PGE mineralization. The position of data points of metabasic rocks of the Avdokimovsky complex and peridotite rocks of the Dalny Kut massif in these diagrams suggests that they have originated from depleted mantle and are promising for the discovery of PGE-bearing chromite mineralization. Data points of Paleocene explosive structures of Sikhote-Alin in the Nb/Y–Zr/Y diagram fall on the trend of recycled crust as a source. This explains the alkaline (to subalkaline) type of magmatism and the high gas saturation of magmas. As a result of a comprehensive study of the geological structure and diamond presense of the northern part of the East European Platform, generalization of the data accumulated by various organizations in the USSR, the Russian Federation, and other states, three main prospecting models of primary diamond deposits have been identified and characterized: Karelian, Finnish, and Arkhangelsk. Geological, structural, mineralogical, and petrographic criteria of local prediction, as well as the features of the response of kimberlite and lamproite bodies in dispersion haloes and geophysical fields, are considered using known examples, including data on the developed M.V.Lomonosov and V.P.Grib mines. It is shown that the most complicated prospecting environments occur in the covered areas of the Russian Plate, where, in some cases, the primary diamond-bearing rocks are similar in their petrophysical properties to the host formations. The buried dispersion haloes of kimberlite minerals in the continental Carboniferous and Quaternary deposits are traced at a short distance from the sources. Differences in the prospecting features of magnesian (Lomonosov mine) and ferromagnesian (Grib mine) kimberlites are also shown. Conclusions about the diamond potential of the model objects of various types are given in this paper.

Magma mixing is a widespread magmagenic process. However, its significance in the formation of ultrapotassic magmas has been largely overlooked so far as they are commonly thought to originate directly from the mantle and ascend rapidly through the crust. The Hezhong ultrapotassic lavas in Western Yunnan (SW China) are (basaltic) trachy-andesitic in composition. These rocks display porphyritic textures with olivine, clinopyroxene (Cpx), spinel, and phlogopite occurring as both phenocryst and glomerocryst. Disequilibrium textures and complex zonation of crystals are commonly observed. Specifically, based on the textural and compositional characteristics, olivines can be classified into three different populations: two populations are characterized by highly to moderately magnesian olivines with normal chemical core-rim zonation (Fo~94–86 to Fo~89–79 and Fo~91–89 to Fo~86–84, respectively). The third population lacks obvious crystal zonation, but individual crystals exhibit some compositional variety at lower Fo contents (Fo83–76). Similarly, four populations of Cpx and two populations of spinel phenocrysts are recognized in terms of texture and composition. Notably, Cpx with reverse zoning contains a 'green-core' surrounded by a colourless mantle and rim. Hence, based on the variations of mineral assemblage, types of inclusions, and chemical compositions, all phenocryst/glomerocryst minerals can be divided into three groups. Mineral Group I (MG I) consists of high Fo cores of olivine, cores of the zoned spinel, and phlogopite. MG II only includes the green cores of reversed zoned Cpx (green-core Cpx), and MG III is composed of micro phenocrysts without obvious zoning and rims of large phenocrysts. Comparing these mineral groups with relevant minerals occurring in typical temporally and spatially associated igneous rocks, we suggest that the MG I and II could have been derived from magmas with compositions resembling an olivine lamproite and a trachyte, respectively. The overall bulk-rock geochemical and isotopic features of Hezhong lavas also agree with a mixing process between these two endmembers. Hence, we infer that mixing between these two magmas played a key role in the petrogenesis of the ultrapotassic Hezhong lavas and that the MG III crystallized from the mixed magmas. Our study highlights the complex formation of ultrapotassic magmas inferring that caution must be taken when using bulk chemical magma compositions are to deduce source signatures. Kaapvaal lamproites (aka orangeites) are a group of volatile-rich (H 2 O, CO 2), micaceous, ultrapotassic igneous rocks that are unique to the Kaapvaal craton in southern Africa. However, the composition of the melts that give rise to these rocks remains poorly understood due to overprinting effects of contamination by mantle and crustal material, volatile exsolution, fractional crystallisation and post-magmatic alteration. Consequently, this lack of reliable data on the initial composition of the Kaapvaal lamproite melts hampers our understanding of their source, petrogenesis and ascent mechanisms. Olivine is a common mineral comprising the Kaapvaal lamproites that has both xenocrystic (i.e., mantle) and magmatic origins. Multiphase inclusions (melt/fluid) entrapped within olivine have been consistently demonstrated as an effective tool for gaining fundamental insights into the composition and evolution of melts that produce both kimberlites and lamproites, prior to processes, such as eruption, devolatization and syn-/post-magmatic alteration. In this study, multiphase inclusions of both secondary and pseudosecondary origin hosted in olivine from a Kaapvaal lamproite (Silvery Home, South Africa) provide novel insights into the composition of the melt(s) that initially transported olivine to the surface and then crystallised after emplacement to form the lamproite groundmass. The inclusions in our study contain daughter mineral assemblages consisting of diverse Ca-Mg carbonates, including K-, Na-, Ba-, and Sr-bearing varieties, moderate K-rich silicates (phlogopite, tetraferriphlogopite), and subordinate oxides, phosphates, sulphides, sulphates, and halides. Based on these daughter mineral assemblages, we suggest that the composition of the melt entrapped by olivine was SiO 2 -poor, Ca-Mg carbonate-rich and contained elevated concentrations of K, Na, Ba, Sr, P and Cl. The mineral and reconstructed melt compositions are in stark contrast to the mineral association of the groundmass and the bulk-rock composition of the Silvery Home lamproite, respectively. We suggest that alkali-/alkali-earth carbonates, phosphates, sulphides, sulphates, and halides represented a potentially significant, or even dominant, component of the melt that crystallised the Silvery Home lamproite but were likely removed by degassing and/or interaction with syn-/post-magmatic fluids. We show that olivine-hosted multiphase inclusions from the Silvery Home lamproite share many compositional similarities to melt inclusions hosted in olivine from kimberlites but are distinct from 'classic' cratonic olivine lamproites worldwide. The article describes the history of studying the diamond content of tectonic structures of the territory of Belarus. Based on the results of magnetometric, mineralogical, tectonic studies carried out by industrial geologists and scientists over the past 50 years, new scientifically substantiated criteria for the search for explosion pipes have been developed using Clifford’s rule, according to which kimberlite explosion pipes are developed within the Archean cratons, where the thickness of the lithosphere is 175–270 km, and are absent in the zones of Early Proterozoic stabilisation and tectonomagmatic activation. Explosion tubes on the African-Arabian, East Siberian, Sino-Korean and East European platforms demonstrate their confinement to the Archean cratons and may be associated with zones of paleosubduction of the Proterozoic oceanic crust beneath the Archean cratons. Based on this, the authors scientifically substantiated the hypothesis that during the closure of the Early Proterozoic paleoocean separating the Fenno-Scandinavian craton from the Volga-Ural and Sarmatian cratons, subduction of the younger crust took place under these cratons, the southwestern corner of which on the territory of Belarus is the Vitebsk granulite massif. The article concludes that the Vitebsk granulite massif is the most promising in terms of diamond-bearing on the territory of Belarus, and within its limits – the Smolensk regional deep fault at the intersection of this fault of northeastern striking with the Odessa-Gomel regional deep fault of submeridional striking south of the city of Orsha. Recommendations are given for further study of promising areas in order to determine their diamond content.

Cratonic lamproites are diamondiferous ultrapotassic rocks that are emplaced through thick continental lithosphere and thought to derive from melting of metasomatized (i.e., geochemically enriched) regions of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM). We explored the alternative hypothesis that melts sourced from sublithospheric (i.e., convective mantle) sources dominate the genesis of cratonic lamproites. Supporting evidence includes a robust linear correlation between the Mg/Fe ratios of xenocrystic and magmatic olivine in lamproites worldwide, overlapping the trend observed for kimberlite olivine. This indicates that, similar to kimberlites, primary lamproite melts originate from broadly similar sublithospheric mantle sources before assimilating SCLM material of variable composition. The lamproites are also characterized by a direct correlation between olivine Mg/Fe ratio and bulk-lamproite K2O/Al2O3, an index of potassium enrichment in the melt that is independent of mantle-xenocryst entrainment and magmatic differentiation. Quantitative modeling indicates that this correlation results from the interaction between carbonate-bearing sublithospheric melt and phlogopite-rich wall rocks in the SCLM. Our data show that cratonic lamproites and kimberlites have similar mantle sources in the convective mantle, with lamproites acquiring their peculiar enrichment in K by interaction with metasomatized SCLM en route to the surface. The dynamic properties and melting behavior of the Earth's mantle are strongly influenced by the presence of volatile species, including water, carbon dioxide, and halogens. The role that halogens play in the mantle has not yet been fully quantified: their presence in only small quantities has dramatic effects on the stability of mantle minerals, melting temperatures, and in generating halogen-rich melts such as lamproites. Lamproites are volumetrically small volcanic deposits but are found on every continent on the planet: they are thought to be melts generated from volatile-rich mantle sources rich in fluorine and water. To clarify the mantle sources of lamproites, we present experimentally determined mineral/melt partition coefficients for fluorine and barium between phlogopite and lamproite melts. Both fluorine and barium are compatible in phlogopite [ D F (Phl/Melt) 0.96 ± 0.02 − 3.44 ± 0.33 , D Ba (phl/Melt) 0.52 ± 0.05 − 3.68 ± 0.43 ] at a range of pressures (5–30 kbar), temperatures (1000–1200 °C), and fluid compositions (C-O-H mixtures). Using our partition coefficients, we model the melt compositions produced by potential lamproite sources, including phlogopite garnet lherzolite, phlogopite harzburgite, and hydrous pyroxenite. The results demonstrate that hydrous pyroxenites and phlogopite garnet lherzolite can produce melts with F and Ba contents similar to lamproites, but only hydrous pyroxenites fully reproduce other geochemical characteristics of lamproites including high K2O, low CaO contents, and high F/H2O ratios. The Marepalli dyke of the Vattikod cluster of the Ramadugu Lamproite Field, Nalgonda district, Telangana, India consists of pseudomorphed leucite, phlogopite (Al-poor, Ti-rich zoned phlogopite micas), pseudomorphed olivine, fluorapatite and Al-poor diopside embedded in groundmass consisting mainly of poikilitic Fe-rich titanian phlogopite and potassic amphibole. Other groundmass minerals are Al-Na-poor diopside, Al-poor spinels (titanian magnesian chromites to titanian chromites), Sr-rich fluorapatite and late-stage interstitial anhedral crystals of titanite and K-feldspar. The late-stage deuteric minerals present are REE-rich allanite, pyrite, magnetite, chalcopyrite, galena, hydro-zircon, carbonates (calcite, witherite and strontianite), baryte and cryptocrystalline SiO2. Apatite is an early crystallising phase and is present as inclusions in phlogopite and pyroxene. Phlogopite and amphibole occur as inclusions in titanite and K-feldspar. The compositional trends of phlogopite are of almost constant Al2O3 content with FeOT and TiO2 enrichment, and are typical of lamproitic micas. The FeOT enrichment is accompanied additionally by MgO depletion (reflecting VIFe2+ enrichment) from core to rim together with a slight increase in the tetraferric iron component. Diopside is characterised by <0.4 wt.% alumina and <0.6 wt.% sodium contents and exhibits typical lamproitic affinity. The spinels are alumina-poor with un-evolved titanian magnesian chromite to titanian chromite compositions. The presence of K-richterite, as an abundant amphibole, indicates a lamproite affinity, and on the basis of the typomorphic mineralogy, this rock is classified as a 'pseudoleucite-amphibole-phlogopite lamproite'. The Marepalli lamproite shows significant difference in compositional ranges of phlogopite, amphibole, pyroxene and spinel in comparison to those reported from the Vattikod, Gundrapalli, Ramadugu, Somavarigudem and Yacharam lamproites of Ramadugu Lamproite Field. These lamproites are considered to form from a common parent magma under reducing conditions as evidenced from: (1) low tetraferric iron content in phlogopite; (2) low Fe3+# and Ti# in spinels; and (3) high F content in phlogopite and apatite. Petrological and geochemical studies of lamproites can provide useful insights into the nature of their lithospheric mantle sources, but their geochemical and mineralogical diversity has complicated our understanding of their primary/parental melt composition, volatile (CO 2 , H 2 O) inventory and magmatic evolution. To help address this issue, we present a detailed study of different generations (primary, pseudosecondary, secondary) of crystal, and melt and fluid inclusions in olivine, Cr-spinel and perovskite from three olivine lamproites in the Ellendale Field of the West Kimberley Province (Australia) in order to understand the composition and evolution of their parental magmas. Melt inclusions in the different host minerals and from each of these localities are broadly similar to each other and consist of glass, alkali/alkali-earth (Mg-Ca-K-Na-Ba) carbonates, phosphates and chlorides, in addition to minerals typical of lamproite groundmass (fluorapatite, perovskite, phlogopite, diopside, wadeite, Mg-ilmenite, Fe-Mg-Ti-Cr spinel). The dominant volatile species in the melt and fluid inclusions is CO 2 based on Raman data. Heating experiments of melt/fluid inclusions in olivine show significant phase transformations in which the carbonate may separate into an immiscible carbonate-rich sulphate-bearing fraction or exsolve a CO 2 fluid. Our results indicate that carbonates, along with alkali/alkali-earths, halogens and sulphur, became progressively concentrated in the West Kimberley lamproitic magmas during crystallisation, leading to the entrapment of a complex array of daughter minerals, some not previously reported from lamproites and, in some inclusions, immiscible carbonate melt. The widespread occurrence of daughter carbonates in melt/fluid inclusions in lamproite minerals is at odds with their apparent paucity in the lamproite groundmass. The presence of carbonate and the abundance of CO 2 -rich and H 2 O-poor melt and fluid inclusions are attributed to the preferential partitioning of CO 2 into the vapour and retention of H 2 O in the magma during degassing, coupled with H 2 O loss by post-entrapment modification of the inclusions through H+ diffusion. The reliability of eight Fe–Mg exchange geothermobarometers for garnet-bearing peridotites, pyroxenites and eclogites has been examined using a database comprised of more than 300 published peridotite, pyroxenite and eclogite experiments conducted from 10 to 70 kbar and 850 to > 1650 ∘ C . We have tested Fe–Mg exchange geothermometers suitable for a range of mantle lithologies, including websterite, harzburgite, wehrlite and eclogite. All geothermometers maintained an average difference in experimental and calculated temperature (T) Δ T = T exp - T calc of less than ± 50 °C with a standard deviation of Δ T between ± 50 to 150 °C. Most geothermometers performed well across a narrow range in ln Kd Fe - Mg A - B (where Kd Fe - Mg A - B = Fe A × Mg B (Fe B × Mg A) ), however, systematic overestimation and underestimation of T were observed outside of the optimal range of lnKd Fe - Mg A - B . Increases in experimental pressure (P) adversely affected several geothermometers, particularly those calibrated empirically using natural samples. All previously published calibrations of the garnet-clinopyroxene geothermometer were unable to reliably reproduce the experimental T for both peridotite and eclogite experimental compositions, which hinders their confident application to natural datasets. To improve the state of mantle geothermobarometry we have used our experimental database to recalibrate the (1) garnet-clinopyroxene Fe–Mg exchange geothermometer, and (2) garnet-orthopyroxene Fe–Mg exchange geothermometer. Each geothermometer has been recalibrated across an extended P, T, and compositional range. The inclusion of eclogitic experiments in the calibration for the garnet-clinopyroxene geothermometer permits application to both eclogitic and peridotitic/pyroxenitic assemblages equilibrated under a wide range of PT conditions in the upper mantle. Using multiple linear regression to solve for lnKd, we found the following expressions best reproduced the experimental T (℃) of our dataset: T Fe - Mg grt - cpx (∘ C) = 3356.34 - 0.008 × P kbar + 0.259 × X Ca grt + 0.914 × X Mg grt + - 0.159 × Jd cpx + ln Kd Fe - Mg grt - cpx + 1.265 - 273 T Fe - Mg grt - opx (∘ C) = 1851.85 - 0.007 × P kbar + - 1.83 × X Ca grt + ln Kd Fe - Mg grt - cpx + 1.08 - 273 . where, X Ca grt = Ca Ca + Fe + Mg , Kd Fe - Mg grt - opx = Fe grt × Mg opx (Fe opx × Mg grt) , X Mg grt = Mg Ca + Fe + Mg , Jd cpx = Na - Cr - 2 × Ti , Kd Fe - Mg grt - cpx = Fe grt × Mg cpx (Fe cpx × Mg grt) , with all elements calculated on the basis of 12 oxygen anions in garnet and 6 oxygen anions in clino- and orthopyroxene. Fe2+ = total Fe. Our updated calibrations resolve several issues with earlier calibrations, including a poor performance at elevated P and compositional limitations. An improvement in precision and accuracy has been demonstrated through application to the experimental calibration dataset, a second independent set of published experimental data, and to natural peridotites, pyroxenites and eclogites from on and off craton settings. Iterative PT estimates on natural datasets calculated using our updated calibrations compare well with estimates from widely used calibrations such as the Taylor (1998) two-pyroxene solvus geothermometer. We anticipate that this contribution will provide an important reference for the reliability of mantle geothermometers and that our updated calibrations will be used in future studies on peridotite, pyroxenite and eclogite inclusions in diamond and mantle-derived xenoliths. Despite the scientific and economic significance of kimberlites and related magmas, their origin is unclear. Here, we address this issue using whole‐rock and perovskite‐derived Sr‐Nd‐Hf isotopes for the three occurrences of kimberlite, lamproites and ultramafic lamprophyres (UMLs) in Finland. Mesoproterozoic olivine lamproites at Lentiira‐Kuhmo and UMLs at Kuusamo have different isotopic signatures yet were emplaced contemporaneously at 1,200 Ma in response to an extensional regime linked to the Baltica‐Laurentia breakup. The low εNd(i) and εHf(i) values of the olivine lamproites are consistent with an enriched subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) source while UML compositions are intermediate between those of typical kimberlites and lamproites and are interpreted to reflect mixing of asthenospheric melts and ∼10%–15% of melts sourced from metasomatized SCLM. The ∼750 Ma Kuusamo kimberlites, are probably linked to the mantle plume activity that initiated Rodinia's break‐up, exhibiting homogenous isotopic compositions which mirror the prominent Geodynamic and Source Constraints for ∼1,200 Ma Olivine Lamproite and Ultramafic Lamprophyre Magmatism in Eastern Finland (PREMA)‐like signature of kimberlites globally. By contrast, ∼620–585 Ma Kaavi‐Kuopio kimberlites show limited range in εNd(i) and 87Sr/86Sr(i) but have remarkably heterogeneous εHf(i) (+6.5 to −6.3) with a temporal trend toward lower εHf(i) values. While the Kuusamo kimberlites erupted during the early stage of continental break‐up, the Kaavi‐Kuopio kimberlites were emplaced when Rodinia break‐up was completed, coeval with formation of the Central Iapetus large igneous province. Magmas forming the Kaavi‐Kupio kimberlites may have formed from an upwelling mantle source similar to PREMA modified by increasing incorporation (up to 10%) of recycled crustal material through time accounting for the trend toward lower εHf(i) in these kimberlites. Plain Language Summary: Kimberlites and related rocks are of great economic and scientific importance as they are some of the deepest derived mantle melts (> 150–200 km) and carry a diverse cargo of mantle material, including diamonds. In this study, we utilize new radiogenic isotope data combined with geochemical modeling and existing geodynamic reconstructions to propose genetic models for the emplacement of kimberlites, ultramafic lamprophyres (UMLs) and olivine lamproites in Finland. The UMLs and olivine lamproites may be genetically related given their close temporal overlap and their compositions testify to progressively increasing contributions by geochemically enriched lithospheric mantle sources. We propose that kimberlite activity in Finland is fueled by melting of deep mantle sources that bookends both the onset and completion the break‐up of an ancient supercontinent, Rodinia. This supercontinent disintegration and, potentially, kimberlite activity, was likely driven by the deep mantle upwellings, or plumes, beneath the region. In addition, our modeling suggests the unique, isotopic evolution of the mantle source for the youngest Finnish kimberlites occurrence reflects progressive incorporation of ancient, recycled material into their mantle plume source. The mineral chemistry of diamond indicator minerals is used to trace mineralizations in primary rocks such as lamproites/kimberlites and in secondary deposits. Subcalcic garnets and magnesian ilmenites are both minerals associated with the diamond potential described in many deposits in the Alto Paranaíba Igneous Province where several kimberlitic pipes and alluvial deposits occur. Our study was conducted on the Romaria diamond deposit of (Brazil), where garnet, ilmenite and tourmaline grains were recovered from a diamon-bearing breccia were analyzed under electron microprobe. The paper presents detailed petrographic research using optical microscopy on lamproite rocks around the village of Mrzen, North Macedonia. Detailed microscopic examinations of 5 specimens show that the rocks have typical porphyritic structures and in some places they also show sub-rounded textures with cavities filled with secondary calcite. Phenocrystals that have idiomorphic forms are represented by olivine, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, plagioclase, and magnetite. In some places there are changes - alterations in phenocrystals that are represented by iddingsite, smectite-chlorite-goethite), clay and/or zeolites, and calcite. Origin of abundant alkaline and related lamproite massifs and dykes in Aldan shield have no explanation and the geochemistry of rocks and their xenocrysts is used for the explanation. Bulk-rock geochemistry, mineral chemistry data of the Kayla lamproites of Russia and mineral chemical data (trace and rare elements) of the mantle xenocrysts found in these lamproites was studied using ICP MS and electron microprobe analyses (EPMA). The trace element spectrum of Kayla tuffs and breccias show the similarity with the olivine lamproites and belong to the orogenic type according to Th–U–Nb systematics. Primitive mantle normalized trace element (TRE) spider diagrams show right-leaning patterns with the peaks in large ion lithophile elements Sr, Pb, U, and troughs in Ta, Nb suggesting melting of original peridotites mixed with the ancient EMI (according to Nd, Sr isotopes) source probably belonging to eclogites or lower crust. The age of the emplacement is 132–134 Ma, similar to the Chompolo lamprophyres and many other alkaline Aldan complexes. Thermo-barometric estimation from Cr-diopsides and chromites xenocrysts suggest the origin from the spinel-garnet transition in the lithospheric mantle region. The P–T estimates derived from low-Cr-clinopyroxene xenocrysts, and related to lamproites show a high heat flow of 90 mW/m2 due to interaction with the plume-related magma. The Cr-diopsides and chromites give 45 mW/m2 geotherm similar to regional heat flow. The chondrite normalized rare earth element (REE) pattern for chrome-diopsides is steeper, compared to the low-chrome varieties. Primitive mantle normalized spidergram of Cr-diopsides displays peaks for Sr, U, and Th, and deep troughs of Nd, Nb, Ta. REE. The trace element spider diagrams of both types of xenocrysts show that they were equilibrated with the lamproitic melts and reconstructed parental melts of low-Cr-clinopyroxene coincides with the lamproite spectrums. The present study attempts a conjugate analysis of satellite-based remote sensing, gravity, and magnetic data for evaluation of structures and tectonic for new insights on Kimberlite emplacement around the Bundelkhand Craton. Initially, Landsat Operational Land Imager (OLI) data has been enhanced using high-pass filtering for the delineation of lineaments. A combined lineament density map has been prepared from the processed Landsat image, Bouguer gravity, and RTP (Reduction to pole) magnetic data, which are further correlated with the reported Kimberlite/Lamproite pipes. The depth to the lithospheric Mantle of the study area has been estimated from EIGEN6C4 Bouguer gravity data using the Parker-Oldenburg algorithm. The association of the reported Kimberlite/Lamproite pipes in the study area have been analyzed with the i) composite lineament density map, ii) different mantle blocks of high and low Moho depths, iii) lithospheric mantle density, and iv) tectonic setting. The study of the geodynamic evolution of the Baltic Shield showed that the melts of diamondiferous kimberlites and related rocks were formed due to the pulling of "heavy" ferruginous sediments of the Early Proterozoic into subduction zones beneath the Archean cratons. Later, during the Neoproterozoic and Paleozoic stages of rifting, melts conserved in the lower crust and subcrustal lithosphere were able to penetrate into the near-surface zones of the crust and form magmatic complexes of alkaline–ultramafic and kimberlite magmatism. The authors showed that diamondiferous kimberlite and lamproite explosion pipes, as well as related carbonatite and alkaline–ultramafic intrusions, are mainly located above the subduction zones of the Svecofennian (Karelian) plates, which functioned about 2.0–1.8 Ga ago. At the same time, alkaline ultramafic intrusions and (sodium) carbonatites are located closest to the front of the subduction zone of Proterozoic plates (from 100 to 200–300 km). Then (at a distance of 200 to 400 km), there is a zone of location of calcite carbonatites and melilitites, and sometimes nondiamondiferous kimberlites. Diamondiferous kimberlite and lamproite diatremes are located farther than other similar formations approximately 300 to 600–650 km from its front. Such a regular spatial arrangement of magmatic complexes of a single series unambiguously indicates a change in depth of their origin. A study of specific aggregates of corundum from kimberlite and lamproite of the Ukrainian Shield has been carried out. The presence of unusual segregations of oxides, silicates, and highly reduced phases is a characteristic feature of these aggregates. Oxide and silicate phases fill the interstitials between corundum grains and include oxide microcrystals (rutile, carmeltazite, hibonite, baddeleyite, and zirconolite) and a glass-like substance of feldspar composition. A rare variety of Al–Ti–diopside, namely grossmanite, was first discovered in terrestrial formations in these segregations. Oxygen-free phases are represented by osbornite TiN, khamrabaevite TiC, native iron, and the Si–Ti–Fe intermetallic alloy. The microstructural patterns of the corundum aggregate and the finding of corundum spherules indicate that its formation occurred through rapid cooling of the melt with an Al2O3 content of >95 wt %. The melt temperature was above the melting point of corundum and exceeded 2050°С. The presence of titanium nitrides and carbides, as well as other oxygen-free phases, indicates that the melt was formed under extreme reducing conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although irrefutable evidence for the presence of signs of diamondiferous kimberlite on the Taimyr Peninsula were obtained in the 1930s, it was only in 2020 that a macrodiamond (>1 mm) was first discovered in Eastern Taimyr. This was a colorless laminar crystal of a transitional shape from an octahedron to a rhombododecahedron. According to the set of features, the crystal is rare and atypical of the known primary and alluvial deposits of the Siberian Diamond Province. The find of this diamond indicates the presence of primary sources and the need for medium-scale geological survey and exploration over a large area from Anabar Bay (Pronchishchev Ridge) to the west to the Kiryaka–Tas and Tulai–Kiryaka highlands and to the northeast to Tsvetkov Cape. At least four spatially overlapping Large Igneous Provinces, each of which generated ~1 x 106 km3 or more of basaltic magmas over short time intervals (<5 m.y.), were emplaced onto and into the Kaapvaal Craton between 2.7 and 0.18 Ga: Ventersdorp (2 720 Ma, ~0.7 x 106 km³), Bushveld (2 056 Ma, ~1.5 x 106 km³), Umkondo (1 105 Ma, ~2 x 106 km³) and Karoo (182 Ma, ~3 x 106 km³). Each of these has been suggested to have been derived from melting of sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) sources, but this is precluded because: (1) each widespread heating event sufficient to generate 1 to 2 x 106 km³ of basalt from the Kaapvaal SCLM (volume = 122 to 152 x 106 km³) would increase residual Mg# by 0.5 to 2 units, depending on degree of melting, and source and melt composition, causing significant depletion in already-depleted mantle, (2) repeated refertilization of the Kaapvaal SCLM would necessarily increase its bulk density, compromising its long-term buoyancy and stability, and (3) raising SCLM temperatures to the peridotite solidus would also have repeatedly destroyed lithospheric diamonds by heating and oxidation, which clearly did not happen. It is far more likely, therefore, that the Kaapvaal LIPs were generated from sub-lithospheric sources, and that their diverse geochemical and isotopic signatures represent variable assimilation of continental crustal components. Combined Sr and Nd isotopic data (n = 641) for the vast volumetric majority of Karoo low-Ti tholeiitic magmatic products can be successfully modelled as an AFC mixing array between a plume-derived parental basalt, with <10% of a granitic component derived from 1.1 Ga Namaqua-Natal crust. Archaean crustal materials are far too evolved (εNd ~ -35) to represent viable contaminants. However, a very minor volume of geographically-restricted (and over-analysed) Karoo magmas, including picrites, nephelinites, meimechites and other unusual rocks may represent low-degree melting products of small, ancient, enriched domains in the Kaapvaal SCLM, generated locally during the ascent of large-volume, plume-derived melts. The SCLM-derived rocks comprise the well-known high-Ti (>2 to 3 wt.% TiO2) magma group, have εNd, 182 values between +10.5 and -20.9, and are characteristically enriched in Sr (up to 1 500 ppm), suggesting a possible connection to kimberlite, lamproite and carbonatite magmatism. These arguments may apply to continental LIPs in general, although at present, there are insufficient combined Sr + Nd isotopic data with which to robustly assess the genesis of other southern African LIPs, including Ventersdorp (n = 0), Bushveld (n = 55) and Umkondo (n = 18). Kareevlei is the first diamond mine to be hosted in a K-richterite- and leucite-bearing Kaapvaal lamproite (formerly termed Group II kimberlite). To constrain the petrogenesis and lithospheric setting of the Kareevlei Kaapvaal lamproites, we present petrography, groundmass mineral compositions, bulk-rock major and trace element concentrations and Sr Nd isotopes for 13 coherent-textured samples, along with garnet indicator mineral compositions and Ni-in-garnet thermobarometry. Two distinct mineralogical varieties of Kaapvaal lamproites are identified: (1) phlogopite-diopside olivine lamproites and (2) leucite-richterite olivine lamproites. Phlogopite macrocryst and microcryst laths have two distinct core populations, interpreted as xenocrysts from phlogopite peridotites and MARIDs, whereas rims represent crystallisation from the magma. The leucite-richterite lamproites are characterised by higher bulk-rock SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3, and Na 2 O, and lower MgO contents compared to the phlogopite-diopside lamproites. The two mineralogical varieties have distinct incompatible trace element concentrations, with the leucite-richterite samples having lower concentrations of light REEs (LREE: La = 656–828; Ce = 518–597; Nd = 234–261 times chondrite) compared to the phlogopite-diopside samples (La = 1125–1391; Ce = 817–1029; Nd = 333–415 times chondrite). Additionally, these two groups exhibit clear separation in trace element ratios, with higher La/Sm and Gd/Yb in the phlogopite-diopside lamproites, which is interpreted to represent formation by lower degrees of partial melting relative to the leucite-richterite lamproites. However, both lamproite varieties have similar 87Sr/86Sr i and 143Nd/144Nd i ratios, suggesting derivation from an isotopically homogeneous source in the SCLM. The indicator mineral suite at Kareevlei comprises, in decreasing abundances, oxides (predominantly ilmenite and chromite), garnet, corundum, and rare clinopyroxene. Garnets are largely eclogitic (59%) with only smaller proportions of peridotitic G9 (19%) and G10 (8%) garnets observed. Peridotitic garnet thermobarometry indicates a paleogeotherm with an estimated surface heat flux of ∼44.3–44.9 mW/m−2 and an estimated lithospheric thickness of ∼187–195 km, which is within error of the nearby highly diamondiferous Finsch Kaapvaal lamproite (cf. 192 ± 6 km). Single mineral garnet thermobarometry suggests that most peridotitic garnets at Kareevlei were sampled by the lamproite at relatively shallow depths above the diamond stability field. In-situ Rb-Sr dating of mica by laser ablation ICP-MS/MS has recently emerged as a new tool to date a range of geological processes including magmatic, metamorphic and hydrothermal events. The majority of age results presented to date are based on Rb/Sr calibration using the MicaMG pressed nano-powder pellet. However, some studies have reported low accuracy associated with mica Rb-Sr ages using this method, which are attributed to the different ablation properties of MicaMG and natural mica. In this work, we document the results of a systematic comparison between isotope-dilution and laser-ablation Rb/Sr ages of micas in Cretaceous diamondiferous kimberlites from Bultfontein (South Africa), Koidu and Tonguma (Sierra Leone), with additional in-situ data for the Mt. Dromedary mica (Australia). We adopt two different analytical strategies. While NIST610 SRM is employed to calibrate 87Sr/86Sr in both cases, the first approach follows the convention to utilise MicaMG as calibration material for Rb/Sr. In the second approach, Rb/Sr quantification is initially undertaken with NIST610, with a subsequent correction for Rb/Sr offset based on the age of isochronous micas (WBLK) from the Cretaceous Wimbledon lamproite (South Africa). We show that, using our instrumental set-up, employment of MicaMG as Rb/Sr calibration material commonly provides inaccurate results (generally 5–10% older than the solution-based ages). Conversely, our new approach returns accurate ages (within 3%) and represents a promising avenue to improve the accuracy of mica Rb-Sr age by laser ablation ICP-MS/MS especially once isochronous mica reference materials will be developed. Application of this methodology to multiple samples from Koidu and Tonguma shows that, contrarily to previous inferences based on age-dating of fewer samples, magmatism occurred at both localities in the 145–151 Ma interval. After a temporal hiatus, magmatism restarted exclusively in the Tonguma cluster between 135 and 139 Ma. The crystal structure of a potentially new mineral, the Fe2+-dominant analogue of armalcolite with the idealized formula Fe2+Ti2O5 has been solved. The sample studied originates from a pneumatolytic association related to the lamproite complex of SE Spain. The mineral is orthorhombic, space group Cmcm, the unit-cell parameters are a = 3.7325(1) Å, b = 9.7649(4) Å, c = 9.9902(3) Å, V = 364.12(2) Å3. The pressure dependence of the exchange of Cr between clinopyroxene and garnet in peridotite is applicable as a geobarometer for mantle-derived Cr-diopside xenocrysts and xenoliths. The most widely used calibration (Nimis and Taylor Contrib Miner Petrol 139: 541–554, 2000; herein NT00) performs well at pressures below 4.5 GPa, but has been shown to consistently underestimate pressures above 4.5 GPa. We have experimentally re-examined this exchange reaction over an extended pressure, temperature, and compositional range using multi-anvil, belt, and piston cylinder apparatuses. Twenty-nine experiments were completed between 3–7 GPa, and 1100–1400 °C in a variety of compositionally complex lherzolitic systems. These experiments are used in conjunction with several published experimental datasets to present a modified calibration of the widely-used NT00 Cr-in-clinopyroxene (Cr-in-cpx) single crystal geobarometer. Our updated calibration calculates P (GPa) as a function of T (K), CaCr Tschermak activity in clinopyroxene a CaCrTs cpx , and Cr/(Cr + Al) (Cr#) in clinopyroxene. Rearranging experimental results into a 2n polynomial using multiple linear regression found the following expression for pressure: P GPa = 11.03 + - T K ln (a CaCrTs cpx) × 0.001088 + 1.526 × ln Cr # cpx T K where Cr # cpx = Cr Cr + Al , a CaCrTs cpx = Cr - 0.81 · Cr # cpx · Na + K , with all mineral components calculated assuming six oxygen anions per formula unit in clinopyroxene. Temperature (K) may be calculated through a variety of geothermometers, however, we recommend the NT00 single crystal, enstatite-in-clinopyroxene (en-in-cpx) geothermometer. The pressure uncertainty of our updated calibration has been propagated by incorporating all analytical and experimental uncertainties. We have found that pressure estimates below 4 GPa, between 4–6 GPa and above 6 GPa have associated uncertainties of 0.31, 0.35, and 0.41 GPa, respectively. Pressures calculated using our calibration of the Cr-in-cpx geobarometer are in good agreement between 2–7 GPa, and 900–1400 °C with those estimated from widely-used two-phase geobarometers based on the solubility of alumina in orthopyroxene coexisting with garnet. Application of our updated calibration to suites of well-equilibrated garnet lherzolite and garnet pyroxenite xenoliths and xenocrysts from the Diavik-Ekati kimberlite and the Argyle lamproite pipes confirm the accuracy and precision of our modified geobarometer, and show that PT estimates using our revised geobarometer result in systematically steeper paleogeotherms and higher estimates of the lithosphere‒asthenosphere boundary compared with the original NT00 calibration. The Kolhan Group in the Singhbhum Craton of eastern India is a passive margin siliciclastic shelf to deep‐water carbonate ramp platform succession. It occupies a unique position in respect of the Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ), widely considered as the suture joining the northern and southern Indian cratonic blocks at the time of amalgamation of the Mesoproterozoic supercontinent Columbia. The Kolhan succession is closely comparable to other Late Proterozoic 'Purana' successions of India including the siliciclastic‐carbonate Suasar Group from the central part of the CITZ. We report here the first U–Pb detrital zircon ages from the Kolhan Group. The youngest age population obtained from basal siliciclastics suggests it is not older than ca. 1,158 Ma. The absence of any concordant detrital zircon <1,000 Ma which is well represented in the adjoining Singhbhum Shear Zone and CITZ extensions, suggests that the sedimentation took place prior to ca. 1,000 Ma. The Kolhan Group, therefore, records an extensional event between two major episodes of supercontinent assembly (i.e., Columbia and Rodinia). A similar motif of extension and passive margin sedimentation across Mesoproterozoic Peninsular India together with the widespread Mesoproterozoic lamproite and kimberlite emplacement event suggests an episode of extension and major basin development across the Indian Shield in between the two supercontinent amalgamation cycles of Columbia and Rodinia. Mesoproterozoic lamproite dykes occurring in the Banganapalle Lamproite Field of southern India show extensive hydrothermal alteration, but preserve fresh spinel, apatite and rutile in the groundmass. Spinels belong to three genetic populations. Spinels of the first population, which form crystal cores with overgrowth rims of later spinels, are Al-rich chromites derived from disaggregated mantle peridotite. Spinels of the second population include spongy-textured grains and alteration rims of titanian magnesian aluminous chromites that formed by metasomatic interactions between mantle wall-rocks and precursor lamproite melts before their entrainment into the erupting lamproite magma. Spinels that crystallised directly from the lamproite magma constitute the third population and show five distinct compositional subtypes (spinel-IIIa to IIIe), which represent discrete stages of crystal growth. First stage magmatic spinel (spinel-IIIa) includes continuously zoned macrocrysts of magnesian aluminous chromite, which formed together with Al–Cr-rich phlogopite macrocrysts from an earlier pulse of lamproite magma at mantle depth. Crystallisation of spinel during the other four identified stages occurred during magma emplacement at crustal levels. Titanian magnesian chromites (spinel-IIIb) form either discrete crystals or overgrowth rims on spinel-IIIa cores. Further generations of overgrowth rims comprise titanian magnesian aluminous chromite (spinel-IIIc), magnetite with ulvöspinel component (spinel-IIId) and lastly pure magnetite (spinel-IIIe). Abrupt changes of the compositions between successive zones of magmatic spinel indicate either a hiatus in the crystallisation history or co-crystallisation of other groundmass phases, or possibly magma mixing. This study highlights how different textural and compositional populations of spinel provide important insights into the complex evolution of lamproite magmas including clues to elusive precursor metasomatic events that affect cratonic mantle lithosphere. Trends in a concentration of selected trace elements in residual soils on four known diamondiferous kimberlite pipes (3, 4, 8 and 9) occurring at Lattavaram within the Wajrakarur Kimberlite Field (WKF) is attempted for the first time. The pipes 3 and 4 are exposed whereas the 8 and 9 are concealed under calcrete and colluvium. For this purpose, elements like Cr, Co, La, Nb, Ni, Mg, Sr and Zr are used to understand their concentrations in the kimberlitic soils in comparison with background granitic soils. It is observed that the soils on kimberlite pipes show conspicuous enrichment of elements such as Cr, Co, Nb, Ni, Mg and Sr when compared to soils in the country rock granitoid. However, no much variation in the elements La and Zr patterns between the kimberlitic and background soils is noticed. The high pulse in trace elements in kimberlitic soils is attributed to the presence of primary kimberlitic minerals in the soil. This particular aspect of pedogeochemistry is envisaged to be useful as an exploration tool in search of kimberlites in cratonic parts of southern India. An enrichment of Nb content upto 45 ppm in residual soils may be considered as anomalous in the craonic parts of Indian subcontinent, which needs to be confirmed and taken forward in conjunction with high-resolution geological mapping, geophysics and eventual drilling.

The article presents the results of prospecting of diamond boring within the Kuhotsko-Bilska area, which is located on the north-western slope of the Ukrainian Shield.The data of the researches of 1995–2013 made it possible to form a new view on regional and local criteria and signs of diamond-bearing area of work, including a detailed study of the material composition of breccia, to distinguish among them explosive, to discover a new type of potentially diamond- bearing structures.According to all available geological and geophysical information, specific recommendations are given for direct searches for kimberlite or lamproite bodies within promising structures and breccia occurrence.

The trace element compositions of melts and minerals from high-pressure experiments on hydrous pyroxenites containing K-richterite are presented. The experiments used mixtures of a third each of the natural minerals clinopyroxene, phlogopite and K-richterite, some with the addition of 5% of an accessory phase ilmenite, rutile or apatite. Although the major element compositions of melts resemble natural lamproites, the trace element contents of most trace elements from the three-mineral mixture are much lower than in lamproites. Apatite is required in the source to provide high abundances of the rare earth elements, and either rutile and/or ilmenite is required to provide the high field strength elements Ti, Nb, Ta, Zr and Hf. Phlogopite controls the high levels of Rb, Cs and Ba. Since abundances of trace elements in the various starting mixtures vary strongly because of the use of natural minerals, we calculated mineral/melt partition coefficients (D Min/melt) using mineral modes and melting reactions and present trace element patterns for different degrees of partial melting of hydrous pyroxenites. Rb, Cs and Ba are compatible in phlogopite and the partition coefficient ratio phlogopite/K-richterite is high for Ba (1 3 6) and Rb (12). All melts have low contents of most of the first row transition elements, particularly Ni and Cu ((0.1–0.01) × primitive mantle). Nickel has high D Min/melt for all the major minerals (12 for K-richterite, 9.2 for phlogopite and 5.6 for Cpx) and so behaves at least as compatibly as in melting of peridotites. Fluorine/chlorine ratios in melts are high and D Min/melt for fluorine decreases in the order apatite (2.2) > phlogopite (1.5) > K-richterite (0.87). The requirement for apatite and at least one Ti-oxide in the source of natural lamproites holds for mica pyroxenites that lack K-richterite. The results are used to model isotopic ageing in hydrous pyroxenite source rocks: phlogopite controls Sr isotopes, so that lamproites with relatively low 87Sr/86Sr must come from phlogopite-poor source rocks, probably dominated by Cpx and K-richterite. The Leucite Hills Volcanic Field, southwest Wyoming comprises two dozen volcanic features including necks, flows, dikes, and plugs. It has been the focus of many petrologic studies as its volcanic and shallow intrusive rocks are one of the only surficial manifestations of ultrapotassic lamproite. We build on paleomagnetic findings of Sheriff and Shive (1980) by providing further paleomagnetic data from the Boars Tusk dike and Black Rock flows. We also characterize the magnetic mineral assemblage of these lamproites. Principal component analysis of alternating field (AF) and thermal demagnetization data indicate that the dike and breccias of Boars Tusk record a reversed magnetic polarity and the Black Rock lava records a normal polarity, both consistent with previous findings. This recording is typically carried by minerals with coercivities > 15 mT and susceptibility measurements indicate magnetite, maghemite, and titanomagnetite as likely magnetic carriers. AF and thermal demagnetization experiments evince secondary magnetizations held by lower coercivity grains, likely caused by lightning strikes. 40Ar/39Ar incremental heating experiments from Boars Tusk and Black Rock give plateau ages of ∼ 2500 ka and ∼ 900 ka, respectively. Recent advances in the chronology of geomagnetic field reversals and excursions during the Quaternary permit integration of the Boars Tusk dike into the lower Matuyama chron, whereas the Black Rock lavas most probably record the Kamikatsura excursion. Notably, Black Rock records high inclinations that suggest the short-lived excursion achieved a full geomagnetic reversal, something not observed at other localities recording the Kamikatsura excursion. The Leucite Hills offer further opportunities to refine the Quaternary geomagnetic instability time scale (GITS), and to improve understanding of the eruptive and geomorphic evolution of this unusual volcanism. • New 40Ar/39Ar data constrains eruptive history of Leucite Hills volcanic complex. • New paleomagnetic and electron microprobe data reported for Leucite Hills. • First paleomagnetic record of Kamikatsura geomagnetic excursion in North America. Dynamic metasomatism experiments were performed by reacting a lamproite melt with garnet peridotite by drawing melt through the peridotite into a vitreous carbon melt trap, ensuring the flow of melt through the peridotite and facilitating analysis of the melt. Pressure (2–3 GPa) and temperature (1050–1125 °C) conditions were chosen where the lamproite was molten but the peridotite was not. Phlogopite was formed and garnet and orthopyroxene reacted out, resulting in phlogopite wehrlite (2 GPa) and phlogopite harzburgite (3 GPa). Phlogopites in the peridotite have higher Mg/(Mg + Fe) and Cr2O3 and lower TiO2 than in the lamproite due to buffering by peridotite minerals, with Cr2O3 from the elimination of garnet. Compositional trends in phlogopites in the peridotite are similar to those in natural garnet peridotite xenoliths in kimberlites. Changes in melt composition resulting from the reaction show decreased TiO2 and increased Cr2O3 and Mg/(Mg + Fe). The loss of phlogopite components during migration through the peridotite results in low K2O/Na2O and K/Al in melts, indicating that chemical characteristics of lamproites are lost through reaction with peridotite so that emerging melts would be less extreme in composition. This indicates that lamproites are unlikely to be derived from a source rich in peridotite, and more likely originate in a source dominated by phlogopite-rich hydrous pyroxenites. Phlogopites from an experiment in which lamproite and peridotite were intimately mixed before the experiment did not produce the same phlogopite compositions, showing that care must be taken in the design of reaction experiments.
