Introduction:The skin of a person is the index of psychosomatic health. Nowadays, various types of fungal diseases are on the rampage; Dadru is one among them. Acharya Charaka has described Dadru under Kshudra Kushtha, which is characterized by Udagata Mandala (raised patch) associated with Kandu (itching), Raga (redness), and Pidika (eruptions) and is Pitta Kaphaja predominance skin disease. It has a resemblance to fungal dermatophytosis. It is a common infection of the skin and nails caused by fungus.Aim:This study was aimed to describe the demographic, constitutional, and clinical profile of patients of Dadru.Methods:A total of 50 patients for the study were selected from O. P. D. and I. P. D. of N. I. A. Arogyasala Hospital, Jaipur.Results:In the current study, the maximum number of patients was from 18 to 30 years age group (46%), male gender (74%), Pitta-Kaphaja Deha Prakriti (48%), recurring nature of the lesion (82%), trunk, and limbs involvement (76%), aggravation of disease in the rainy season (30%). Viruddhahara Sevana (incompatible diet) as Nidana (causative factor) was observed in a maximum 38% of patients. Divasvapna was the second common cause in 18% of patients.Conclusion:The prevalence of Dadru Kushtha (Fungal Dermatophytosis) was higher in the 18–30 years age group of male patients. Individuals having Pitta-Kaphaja Deha Prakriti and practicing daytime sleep and consumption of incompatible diet are at higher risk of developing Dadru Kushtha (Fungal Dermatophytosis).

Introduction: Fungal infections are the most common infection of skin in India. Recurrence and relapse are very common. Incomplete treatment and use of steroid is responsible for resistant Tinea incognito. Main Clinical Finding: A female patient of 23-year-old had erythematous papulo-vesicular lesions over the right underarm and inguinal region from the last 1 year. History of temporary relief due to modern medicine with relapse was observed. Striae marks were evident over thighs indicating skin atrophy. Diagnosis: Patient was diagnosed with Tinea incognito (Ayurvedic diagnosis Dadru with Dooshivisha as a causative factor). Interventions: Patient was successfully managed with Dooshivishahara and Rakta Prasadak Chikitsa. Outcome: Improvement was evident after 3 weeks of therapy. No recurrence was reported till date. Conclusions: Ayurvedic approach to Tinea incognito not only helps to reduce relapse and recurrence but also physical discomfort and financial burden on patient.

Introduction: Our main aim is to adopt the holistic approach of Ayurveda in the prevention of disease before to treat the cause. Because of changing lifestyle and environmental conditions skin diseases are markedly increased in number. Aims and Objectives: To assess the effect of Ahara (diet) and Vihara (life style) on Kushtha (skin disease) through conceptual study and survey study is applied on clinical grounds. Methods: In the present study, etiological-based survey of 90 patients who visited in the outpatient department and inpatient department of the Department of Agad Tantra (Ayurveda Toxicology) National Institute of Ayurveda was carried out to assess the dietary and habitual lifestyles of people suffering from Kushtha (skin disease). The study was interview-based survey on simple randomized selection of patients. In the present study, an etiology-based survey questionnaire was prepared based on classics to assess dietary and habitual lifestyles of people suffering from skin disease. Results: In the present clinical study, maximum number of patients having mandagni. Aam rasa is produced due to mandagni, which is stated as the prime cause for almost all diseases. Viruddahara, Mithyahara-vihara are perceived as major causative factors in observation during the study. Conclusion: Avoidance of these aetiologies is concluded to be the first step in the direction of control and management of Kushtha (skin disease). As Ahara and its related codes and conducts have been long forgotten by the human being; therefore, this study was undertaken to evaluate and rediscover this ancient science of dietetics in Ayurveda both conceptually and clinically.

Psoriatic Erythroderma (PsE) is a presentation of Erythroderma due to a history of psoriasis showing inflammation and exfoliation of epidermal skin characterized by erythema and scaling. There is no definite treatment in contemporary medical science but the principle-based Ayurvedic approach has been proved to be effective. We present a case of PsE treated for 3 months with Ayurvedic herbomineral preparations and dietary restrictions for non-vegetarian and dairy items. As per the Ayurvedic diagnostic view, the presented case is correlated with Audumbara Kushtha and Ekakushtha due to their intricate features. Thus, Ayurvedic approaches were directed to eliminate vitiated doshas responsible for acute exacerbation of Kushtha (∼dermatitis) and to maintain equilibrium among them. The patient was initially considered as a case of Saam stage of Kushtha with Pitta-Rakta-Vata predominance. Thus, management was planned into different domains-treatment of Saam stage of Kushtha, Vyadhipratyanika chikitsa (∼disease antagonistic treatment), Rasayana intervention (∼Immunomodulation therapy) and Ayurvedic drugs were given accordingly. The assessment was done based on subjective parameters and PASI score. The patient was followed for about one and half year without any complication and relapse. This case study shows PsE can be managed with an Ayurvedic approach and proper diet planning.

Immune response of a human body to the uncertain factors leads to the accelerated inflammatory proliferation of the ailing cells of the skin known as Psoriasis. Although the condition found described many decades ago, the etiology and treatment look under-researched. In Ayurveda, many herbs have proven efficacy in psoriasis, but the multifaceted etiology of the disease needs a multimodal treatment approach. We report about Ayurveda treatment in a 68-year-old female patient with plaque psoriasis presented with erythematous plaques on the anterior surface of the legs, right forehand, and neck region. The Auspitz sign and Koebner phenomenon were positive. The treatment protocol was adopted as per Ayurvedic samprapti (pathophysiology) and the patient cured completely without reporting any adverse events after the one year of treatment. No recurrence observed even after one year of the halted treatment. The importance of a wholesome diet as a health promoter is also revalidated. Photographic documentation was recorded with the proper consent of the patient during successive treatment and regular follow-ups. Altogether, multimodal Ayurveda treatment led to speedy and substantial recovery from a chronic case of psoriasis.

Psychodermatology which is a new branch of science, addresses the relation between skin and mind. It has been known since antiquity in Ayurveda that relation exists between skin and the mind. It is estimated that more than one-third of patients seeking treatment for skin disease have underlying psychiatric problems. This review is mainly focus on how connection exists between mind and skin. Patient with skin disorders always experience physical, mental and social embarrassment in the society. This embarrassment leads to mental stress which further aggravates the pre-existing disease. More than a cosmetic nuisance, skin disease causes anxiety, depression, and other psychological problem which affects the patient's life in many ways considerably. A critical review of the history from the primitive stage to the present advanced high tech world assists one to pave the pathway for future. Man always struggled with present and attempted for better tomorrow and these can be achieved with better perspective when the errors of the past and difficulties of the present experiences are overcome, checked and planned at proper time. The knowledge of ancient helps in having a better future, so here an attempt has been made to explore the past literature to explain the historical aspects of Kushtha. Skin is the chief wrap of the body, plays a chief role in maintaining barrier between internal and external environment. Specially, the healthy skin is the primary requirement for the attractiveness as well as having an attractive personality. It has a visible pathology, so any weakness at the skin becomes a great handicap for a person in the civilization. Ayurveda has described all skin disease under the sunshade of the Kushtha, in other word it can be listed as ”Ayurvedic dermatology„. Skin is the largest and most visible organ of the human body. A healthy skin is required for a person's physical as well as mental health. Skin disorders are thus a major cause of depression amongst sufferers and that too Vitiligo which compels the person to feel embarrassed. On the basis of symptoms, the disease Shwitra described in classics of Ayurveda simulates Vitiligo. Vitiligo is an acquired idiopathic depigmentaion of the skin, probably due to autoimmune destruction of the melanocytes which is characterized by ivory or chalky white macules. Vitiligo affects about 1% of the world population with no gender and racial discrimination. In India, it is roughly estimated to be about 3-4%, although an incidence as high as 8.8% has been reported. Shwitra has been described along with Kushtha and is believed to be due to the vitiation of Rakta, Mamsa and Medo dhatus because of vitiated tridoshas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
