- Abstract
Cosmos caudatus or Kenikir has several benefits such as antioxidant, antihypertensive and also antidiabetic effects. Part of Kenikir that is consumed is the leaves, to increase the production of Kenikir can be done by increasing its biomass. One alternative way to increase the biomass of Kenikir is through the utilization of PLTU waste in the form of coal fly ash as a mixture of planting media with soil and chicken manure. The study aimed to determine the optimal mix composition of planting media for Kenikir. Materials used in the research were polybags 25x25cm, local varieties of Kenikir seeds, chicken manure, planting media (soil), and coal fly ash with varying doses. The research was carried out from January - June 2022 at the Experimental Field, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Brawijaya using a Randomized Block Design. There were 10 combination treatments with 3 replications. Observational data were analyzed using analysis of variance (F test) at 5% with a further test of Honest Significant Difference (HSD) at 5%. The results showed that all treatments had a significant effect on all observation parameters. Most optimal treatment was a mixture of 75% soil + 25% coal fly ash + 15 t ha-1 chicken manure with the highest biomass yield of 58.9 g compared to control treatment (100% Soil), 45.2 g. Fly ash and chicken manure can be used as an alternative planting medium mixture to increase the biomass of Kenikir. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
