5. Aplicativos e smartphones para mensuração da altura de árvores em plantio florestal

The present work had as objective to evaluate the accuracy of applications, smartphones and measurers in inferring the total height in a planted forest. Thirty trees were randomly selected, measured in a Tectona grandis stand, by three applications (Measure height, Two point height and Hypsometer), three smartphones (Samsung Galaxy S8, S6 and J7) and three measurers. The trees were logged and their real heights were obtained with a tape measure. To assess accuracy, a t-test for independent samples was performed, after verification of homogeneity of variances by Bartlett's test and normality by the Shapiro-Wilk test, all at 95% confidence levels. In addition, graphical analysis of residues was performed, as well as complementary statistics (bias, mean of absolute differences, standard deviation of differences and root of mean square error). We concluded that depending on the application used, there are smartphones that are not indicate for height measurement. The best-performing application is the Hypsometer. Galaxy S6 smartphone presented the best estimate, preferably for the Two point height application. The measurer experience was confirmed as essential requirement in height estimation using applications and smartphones. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a exatidão de aplicativos, smartphones e mensuradores, na inferência da altura total em um plantio florestal. Foram selecionadas, aleatoriamente, 30 árvores em um plantio de Tectona grandis, sendo elas mensuradas por três aplicativos (Measure height, Two point height e Hypsometer), três smartphones (Samsung Galaxy S8, S6 e J7) e por três mensuradores. Posteriormente, as árvores foram abatidas, sendo obtidas suas alturas reais com auxílio de uma trena. Para avaliar a precisão, foi realizado teste t para amostras independentes, após verificação de homogeneidade de variâncias pelo teste de Bartlett e normalidade pelo teste de Shapiro-Wilk, todos a 95% de confiança. Adicionalmente, foi realizada análise gráfica de resíduos, bem como estatísticas complementares (viés, média das diferenças absolutas, desvio padrão das diferenças e raiz do erro quadrático médio). Conclui-se que, dependendo do aplicativo utilizado, há smartphones que não são indicados para mensuração de altura. O aplicativo de melhor desempenho foi o Hypsometer. E o smartphone Galaxy S6 apresentou melhor estimativa, preferencialmente para o aplicativo Two point height. A experiência do mensurador confirma-se como requisito fundamental na estimativa da altura, utilizando aplicativos e smartphones.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of the Criterion RD 1000® optical dendrometer in a crop-livestock-forest integration system for measuring total volume and sections with bark of eucalyptus trees. Selected trees were felled, having their actual strict volumes obtained. The Smalian method was used for destructive Non-destructive scaling was using carried out using criterion. Bartlett’s test for total volume (p-value 0.5125) and diameter along the stem (p-value 0.1891) was found to be homogeneous. There were no statistical differences between the total volumes obtained by the destructive method compared to the non-destructive and the average form factor. The diameters along the bole obtained by the destructive scaling were the same as those obtained by the non-destructive scaling. For the volume by sections of the bole, it was verified that only in the sections closest to the top and considering the volume up to the top, there was difference with the actual volume. However it corresponded to a small proportion of the total volume (9%). Measurements obtained with the Criterion RD 1000® showed no trend, providing efficient measurements for both diameter and volume along the bole. Objetivou-se avaliar a exatidão do dendrômetro ótico Criterion RD 1000®, em um sistema de integração lavoura-pecuária-floresta, para mensuração do volume total e por secções com casca de eucalipto. As árvores selecionadas foram derrubadas, tendo seus volumes obtidos pelo método de Smalian por cubagem rigorosa. O mesmo método foi utilizado para cubagem não destrutiva, sendo usado o Criterion para obtenção dos dados. Verificou-se homogeneidade de variâncias pelo teste de Bartlett para o volume total (p-valor 0,5125) e diâmetros ao longo do fuste (p-valor 0,1891). Não foram observadas diferenças entre os volumes totais obtidos pelo método destrutivo, não destrutivo e com o fator de forma médio. Os diâmetros ao longo do fuste obtidos pela cubagem destrutiva foram iguais àqueles obtidos pela cubagem não destrutiva. Para o volume por seções do fuste, verificou-se que apenas nas seções mais próximas ao topo, e considerando o volume até a ponta, houve diferença quando comparado ao volume real, mas refletindo cerca de 9% do volume total. As medições obtidas com o Criterion RD 1000® apresentaram-se sem tendências, fornecendo mensurações confiáveis, tanto para o diâmetro quanto para o volume ao longo do fuste.

A altura de árvores é fundamental para a obtenção do volume, e em determinadas situações, pode servir como indicadora da qualidade produtiva de um local. Torna-se importante averiguar instrumentos de medição de altura que resultem em estimativas exatas, conciliada com facilidade operacional, sendo este o objetivo do presente trabalho. Assim, em um sistema agrossilvipastoril, foram mensuradas as alturas totais de 20 árvores com os seguintes instrumentos: Vertex IV®, Hipsômetro/Clinômetro Haglöf®, Criterion RD 1000®, aplicativo para Smartphone Measure Height e o Hipsômetro de Christen. Em seguida, as mesmas árvores mensuradas pelos hipsômetros foram abatidas, tendo seus comprimentos obtidos com trena, correspondendo a suas alturas reais. Verificou-se homogeneidade de variâncias pelo teste de Bartlett (p-valor 0,9797) para as alturas. Por meio da análise de variância foram verificadas diferenças médias significativas entre os instrumentos testados (p-valor 0,00027), em que pelo teste de Dunnett (95% de probabilidade) verificou-se diferença da altura real com a obtida com aplicativo para Smartphone. Para os demais instrumentos, não houve diferença significativa, no entanto, o Criterion RD 1000 obteve melhor estimativa, seguido pelo Vertex e Clinômetro respectivamente, e o hipsômetro de Christen mostrou-se mais tendencioso pela análise gráfica de resíduos e estatísticas complementares. O Criterion é indicado para realização de medidas de altura com maior exatidão, já o Clinômetro pode ser indicado quando a realização de medidas da altura estiver condicionada a menores custos para inventários florestais em sistemas agrossilvipastoris

The seasonal climate drivers of the carbon cycle in tropical forests remain poorly known, although these forests account for more carbon assimilation and storage than any other terrestrial ecosystem. Based on a unique combination of seasonal pan-tropical data sets from 89 experimental sites (68 include aboveground wood productivity measurements and 35 litter productivity measurements), their associate canopy photosynthetic capacity (enhanced vegetation index, EVI) and climate, we ask how carbon assimilation and aboveground allocation are related to climate seasonality in tropical forests and how they interact in the seasonal carbon cycle. We found that canopy photosynthetic capacity seasonality responds positively to precipitation when rainfall is < 2000 mm.yr−1 (water-limited forests) and to radiation otherwise (light-limited forests); on the other hand, independent of climate limitations, wood productivity and litterfall are driven by seasonal variation in precipitation and evapotranspiration respectively. Consequently, light-limited forests present an asynchronism between canopy photosynthetic capacity and wood productivity. Precipitation first-order control indicates an overall decrease in tropical forest productivity in a drier climate.

Based on a unique combination of seasonal pan-tropical data sets from 89 experimental sites (68 include aboveground wood productivity measurements and 35 litter productivity measurements), their associated canopy photosynthetic capacity (enhanced vegetation index, EVI) and climate, we ask how carbon assimilation and aboveground allocation are related to climate seasonality in tropical forests and how they interact in the seasonal carbon cycle. We found that canopy photosynthetic capacity seasonality responds positively to precipitation when rainfall is < 2000 mm yr−1 (water-limited forests) and to radiation otherwise (light-limited forests).
