Computer cooking is a task-related phenomenon where students (end-users) must blindly follow a long list of orders without any connection to the content of the problem, if there is any. Despite its low efficacy, this method is widely used and accepted in informatics both in the learning-teaching process and testing. The National Base Curriculum 2020 in Hungary is in complete accordance with the 'Informatics Reference Framework for Schools', but the course books hardly use the latest results of computer education research. The present paper provides examples of how the results of computer education research can be integrated into teaching-learning materials and classroom practices and discusses the effectiveness and consequences of the different solutions, where tool-centred approaches are compared to problem-focused solutions. Collaboration is the social dimension of scientific inquiry. Research collaboration is a field of academic research containing scientific and increasingly commercialized dimensions. This narrative analysis investigates questions about authorship and motivation. Aside from educational research, wider research collaboration literature is dominated by a focus on ‘hard’ sciences. Unresolved are ethical issues regarding the integrity of knowledge contribution claims listed on journal publications. Despite modest recognition by the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF), scientific naming protocols on published journal articles inevitably shape, rightly or wrongly, the status strength of authors’ symbolic capital and ranking as well as permit departments to submit each named author to the UK’s REF, thereby gaining the benefits of additional monetary and scientific capital accumulation.

The coded Aperture Snapshot Spectral Imaging (CASSI) system offers significant advantages in dynamically acquiring hyper-spectral images compared to traditional measurement methods. However, it faces the following challenges: (1) Traditional masks rely on random patterns or analytical design, limiting CASSI's performance improvement. (2) Existing CASSI reconstruction algorithms do not fully utilize RGB information. (3) High-quality reconstruction algorithms are often slow and limited to offline scene reconstruction. To address these issues, this paper proposes a new MLP architecture, Spectral–Spatial MLP (SSMLP), which replaces the transformer structure with a network using CASSI measurements and RGB as multimodal inputs. This maintains reconstruction quality while significantly improving reconstruction speed. Additionally, we constructed a teacher-student network (SSMLP with a teacher, SSMLP-WT) to transfer the knowledge learned from a large model to a smaller network, further enhancing the smaller network's accuracy. Extensive experiments show that SSMLP matches the performance of transformer-based structures in spectral image reconstruction while improving inference speed by at least 50%. The reconstruction quality of SSMLP-WT is further improved by knowledge transfer without changing the network, and the teacher boosts the performance by 0.92 dB (44.73 dB vs. 43.81 dB). • Fusing RGB and CASSI to improve the quality of reconstruction. • A novel MLP network for hyperspectral reconstruction with faster speed. • Knowledge Transfer via a teacher-student framework improves accuracy. • Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Informatics education in Hungary is based on the National Base Curriculum (NAT) and the Frame Curricula. These documents contain the subjects (sciences), the number of classes for each subject and the requirements for each grade. According to the NAT2012, Informatics as a compulsory school subject is introduced in Grade 6. The filemanagement is among the first topics that students must learn according to the Frame Curricula. However, this is not their first encounter with filemanagent, since by the age of 12 most of the students are already active users of digital tools, and associated with the false assumptions of digital natives. Due to the late introduction, the filemanagement is one of the most neglected topics in informatics education. Nevertheless, this is one of the most important topics, since it is essential for further development in handling digital products. Our research group developed the Webtable-Datatable Conversion (WDC) highmathability method to teach filemanagement. This approach not only focuses on the main file operations but handles real world problems which require firm algorithm construction and datamanagement. The aim of the present study is to measure the effectiveness of the WDC approach with Grade 9 students, where the comparison of groups studying with the traditional and the WDC methods was carried out. Despite substantial efforts to improve construction safety training, the accident rate of migrant workers is still high. One of the primary factors contributing to the inefficacy of training includes information delivery gaps during training sessions (knowledge-transfer). In addition, there is insufficient evidence that these training programmes alone are effective enough to enable migrant workers to transfer their skills to the jobsite (training-transfer). This research attempts to identify and evaluate additional interventions to improve the transfer of acquired knowledge to the workplace. For this purpose, this study presents the first known experimental effort to assess the effect of interventions on migrant work groups in a multinational construction project in Qatar. Data analysis reveals that the adoption of training programmes with the inclusion of interventions significantly improves training-transfer. Construction safety experts can leverage the findings of this study to enhance training-transfer by increasing workers' safety performance and hazard identification ability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous research proved that teaching spreadsheeting from a programming perspective is much more effective than the widely accepted tool-centered surface approach methods. Spreadsheeting as an introductory programming approach allows students to build up schemata leading to contextualized, concept-based problem-solving. Furthermore, it provides tools for real-world problem-solving in other disciplines, and supports knowledge-transfer to database management and “serious” programming. The present study provides the details of a nationwide testing of Grades 7–10 students on how they evaluate their spreadsheet knowledge, which classroom activities form their self-assessment values, and the results of three spreadsheet tasks evaluated by the SOLO categories of understanding. The comparison reveals that most students’ spreadsheet knowledge is pre-structural. On the other hand, they assess themselves much higher, which is primarily based on the number of activities carried out in classes. Traces of conscious problem-solving and knowledge-transfer within the scope of spreadsheeting are hardly detectable, while knowledge brought from mathematics is recognizable. In general, we found proof that the pieces of knowledge remain unconnected, not allowing students to reach the relational level of understanding and build up long-lasting knowledge.

Background: Integrated care is a recognised solution to address the challenge of ageing population. Hence, it is important to commit to opportunities that increase the readiness and capacity of regions to implement integrated care. Knowledge transfer has been greatly recognised as an effective enabler to access existing evidence and learning on integrated care. It encompasses a very broad range of activities to support mutually beneficial collaborations between the interested stakeholders. The two-way exchange element of knowledge transfer is at the heart of successful and sustainable collaboration. However, effective knowledge management requires dedicated support to ensure that the flow of appropriate information and knowledge between adopting and transferring entities is tailored to the local context and maturity of the particular healthcare system seeking the support. This is a precondition to help health and care authorities to build their capacity for the successful transition towards integrated care. A key aspect of the SCIROCCO self-assessment tool is that of context and transferability. In particular, the Tool considers the context in which an integrated care solution has been developed and context into which that solution will be transferred. Aims and objectives: This workshop is an opportunity to explore the potential of the SCIROCCO tool to facilitate collaboration and learning that accelerates the adoption of integrated care. The session features experience of using the SCIROCCO tool in the Basque Country, Puglia Region in Italy and Scotland. Each region tested the Tool in the process of twinning and coaching informed by the maturity assessment of healthcare systems in the Basque Country and Puglia and the requirements of Scotland’s good practice for its transferability and adoption. The focus of this learning was on the involvement of voluntary sector in the provision of integrated care services in Scotland. The resulting twinning and coaching activities are informing the development of local Action Plans to create the local conditions for the transferability of learning about the good practice to the Basque Country and Puglia. This article presents an overview of the specific roles that business knowledge transfer, indigenization and human-development resource management (HDRM) play in the People’s Republic of China. By comparing American, Japanese and Soviet business and management theory and practice, the article analyzes exogenous and indigenous influences through time on China’s HDRM, in terms of their historical roots, as well as by presenting possible explanations for national adaptations to cultural, institutional and legal norms. The study views the impact of business-knowledge transfer on Chinese HDRM theory and practice as a dynamic process, leading to the evolution of a ‘hybrid’, indigenized national HDRM framework, still unfolding. Summary This article outlines a research study examining how social work education, in relation to case reviews and inquiry reports, was structured and delivered to a range of social work students in Northern Ireland. Adopting a qualitative design, nine social work educators in the region were interviewed and asked about their approach to presenting findings from the reports to social work students and the issues this raised for the research sample. The results revealed three key themes: the salience of the organizational context; how learning was structured and organized; and the various attempts to build social work competence. Findings These themes showed that the co-ordinators were delivering a complex area of knowledge. It was clear that they had given considerable thought to the essential messages from the reports even though the constraints of time and setting were apparent. Moreover, they employed a range of innovations in the way the reports were theorized and how the knowledge coming from them was disseminated. The importance of the ‘fear factor’ within students was a primary issue affecting teaching and learning strategies. Applications The findings can be used as a foundation for further research into this area, looking at student feedback, the attainment of learning outcomes and, importantly, ways of enhancing teaching and learning approaches on this sensitive area. The research can also contribute to the identification of social work educators' learning needs and how to approach emotionally laden case studies of significant harm to vulnerable individuals. This article uses knowledge management theory and the gravity model to analyse the determinants of ‘inpatriation’ for knowledge-transfer within multinational corporations (MNCs) and the differences in their effects based on the region of the subsidiary’s host country. The empirical analysis uses data collected through a survey of the overseas subsidiaries of Japanese MNCs and finds that factors related to both the countries and the individual MNCs affect inpatriation, with the former factors having a stronger influence than the latter. With regard to the country factors, a smaller geographic distance and a larger cultural distance between the home and host countries and a lower GDP per capita in the subsidiary’s host country increase inpatriation. Regarding the individual MNC factors, a larger subsidiary R&D budget, a larger parent firm and the execution of collaborative R&D projects between a subsidiary and its parent firm increase inpatriation. Additionally, this study finds that in Asia, geographic closeness and low GDP per capita facilitate inpatriation, whereas a relatively small R&D budget and rare collaborative R&D projects with Japan decrease inpatriation. More subsidiaries in Asia send inpatriates to Japan than do subsidiaries in other regions because these positive factors are much stronger than these negative factors. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

According to the increasing importance of advanced technologies for economy growth and the incremental complexity of research and development management, a novel methodology is proposed in this paper to monitor the evolution trace of innovation sources. This approach focuses on the knowledge-transfer among technologies using patent cluster analysis. More specifically, a citation network model, consisting of patents in 'Coherent Light Generators' classification, is established with the data collected from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In addition, dynamical topological structure is investigated to probe into the overview properties and identify key milestones for the expanding citation network from 1976 to 2014. Next, a novel framework for patent clustering is developed to find out knowledge chunks of which internal knowledge-flows are dense while cut edges are sparse. Community detection algorithms are compared with different assessment indices based on citation network and the selected solution is improved using optimization objectives of cluster analysis. Then, the dynamical structure of the detected knowledge chunks is investigated and the evolution of innovation sources, identified by k-core decomposition, is monitored to unveil the technology development trace. Finally, analysis results are discussed and related conclusions are summarized. This article improves approaches for patent cluster analysis and develops a new follow-up investigation methodology for detected knowledge chunks. It is discovered there are not only scale increases, but also the integration for knowledge chunks during the focal period. A forecasting methodology for technology development trends is proposed based on a two-level network model consisting of knowledge-transfer among patents and patent subclasses, with the aim to confront the increasing complex challenge in technology investment and management. More specifically, the patents of the 'coherent light generators' classification, granted from 1976 to 2014 by examiners of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, are collected and with which the first-level citation network is constructed first. Then, a new approach to assess patent importance from the perspective of topological structure is provided and the second-level citation network, which consists of patent subclasses, is produced with the evaluation results. Moreover, three assessment indices of the subclass citation network are abstracted as impact parameters for technology development trends. Finally, two typical time series models, the Bass and ARIMA model, are utilized and compared for development trend forecasting. Based on the results of evolution prediction and network analysis, the highlighted patent subclasses with more development potential are identified, and the correlation between technology development opportunity and topological structure of the patent citation network is discussed. However, the creation and sharing of web-based pedagogical templates is underpinned by a re-use philosophy and the notion that such material can be adopted or adapted for various purposes by learning designers and developers. This article will exemplify the importance of pedagogical clarity by showcasing how different teacher and learner roles are instantiated in different TPTs that subscribe to behaviourist, cognitivist, or social learning theories. A key goal is to demonstrate that the TPTs constructed based on the Learning Design Framework (LD-F) introduced in the Larnaca Declaration, are easy to be re-used or modified to suit specific learning situations and contexts.

This article investigates the interrelation between processes of professional transformation in an artisanal trade and the identity-building of barbers and surgeons in German-speaking parts of Europe. From the late fifteenth to the middle of the eighteenth century this interrelation included acting in various juridical and political functions, engaging in medical book-writing and, therefore, in knowledge transfer. Such findings are based on a combined analysis of administrative and corporative manuscript sources, and of printed books. Against this background the intention in pictorial representations and the meaning in biographic material become apparent. The individuals and the group defined themselves as medical artisans despite the fact that they assimilated academic standards in their training and lifestyle. Families played a leading part in this adaptation to political, economic, scientific and social change, they even overruled confessional boundaries. Based on co-citation cluster analysis, we propose a knowledge-transfer analysis model for any technology field. In this model, patent data with backward citations to non-patent literature and forward citations by later patents would be analyzed. Co-citation clustering of the cited articles defines scientific knowledge sources, while that of the patents themselves defines technology fronts. According to the citation between the article and patent clusters, the landscape of knowledge-transfer including route and strength between scientific knowledge sources and technology fronts can be mapped out. The model has been applied to the field of transgenic rice. As a result of the analysis, ten scientific knowledge sources and eight technology fronts have emerged, and reasonable links between them have been established, which clearly show how knowledge has been transferred in this field. Abstract: Knowledge generated by site representatives through their participation in clinical trials is valuable for testing new products in use and obtaining final market approval. The leverage of this important knowledge is however challenged as the former direct relationships between in-house staff in the industry and site representatives are changing. The process of clinical trials has increased in complexity over the years, resulting in additional management layers. Besides an increase in internal management layers, sponsors often also outsource various tasks related to clinical trials to a CRO (Contract Research Organization) and thereby adding another link in the relationships between site and sponsor. These changes are intended to optimize the time-consuming and costly trial phases; however, there is a need to study whether valuable knowledge and experience is compromised in the process. Limited research exists on the full range of clinical practice insights obtained by investigators during and after clinical trials and how well these insights are transferred to study sponsors. This study explores the important knowledge-transfer processes between sites and sponsors and to what extent sites' knowledge gained in clinical trials is utilized by the industry. Responses from 451 global investigative site representatives are included in the study. The analysis of the extensive dataset reveals that the current processes of collaboration between sites and the industry restrict the leverage of valuable knowledge gained by physicians in the process of clinical trials. These restrictions to knowledge-transfer between site and sponsor are further challenged if CRO partners are integrated in the trial process. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Objective: This paper introduces the special issue of the Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on the theme of how multiple factors in early brain and biological development can influence a variety of outcomes in mental health and addictions in childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Method: In Part 1, we preview three papers in this issue. In Part 2, we highlight two recent innovative knowledge-transfer symposia featuring the application of the science in early development and addictions. Results: The papers focus on the subtopics of brain plasticity, mood disorders, and comparative research with monkeys on gene-environment interactions and parent-child attachment. In addition, the research presented at the Early Brain and Biological Development Symposium and the Recovery from Addiction Symposium is also reviewed. Held in 2010 in Banff, Alberta, each five-day program was intended to bridge the gap between scientific and clinical experts and those in the province responsible for policy, programs, and services. Conclusions: The science now links common neurobiological maturation processes, adverse early childhood experiences, and key aspects of the social environment with risks for mental health disorders and addictions later in life. There is an increasing trend towards employer engagement in Higher Education. It is recognised that the workplace represents a legitimate learning environment in the modern knowledge economy. Higher Education Innovation Funding is used to foster mutually beneficial links between universities and industry and commerce. This paper provides a reflective analysis of the utilisation of this funding to establish a software development team within a department of computer science and information systems to form links with the regional economy, and to effect synergy between students, staff and external clients. This forms the basis of a stimulating environment which provides real-world scenarios and brings current skills and knowledge into the Department. It provides contemporary case studies, offers valuable support to the regional economy, and enables students to acquire skills to equip them for employment. The article offers guidelines for making the filing of patent applications by universities consistent or even synergistic with their other missions. It reveals that the importance of university research as a source of technology is increasing in the knowledge economy. It suggests two reasons for the lower propensity of European universities to file patent applications. It considers the role of universities in the innovation process.

• We propose to transfer the knowledge learned from videos to images to improve the performance of single image based human action recognition. • To guide the generation process and generate discriminative information, we introduce a reconstruction loss regularized with classification loss. • We prove that the knowledge learned from both color and flow sequences can transfer to single images to improve the performance of human action recognition and the knowledge from flow sequences benefits the improvement significantly. Human action recognition in visual data is one of the most fundamental challenges in computer vision. Existing approaches for this primary goal have been based on video data, often incorporating both color and dynamic flow information. Nevertheless, the majority of the visual data constitute still images, and for this reason, being able to recognize actions in still image is an ultimate objective of visual understanding with an extended list of applications. In this paper, we present a novel method that transfers the knowledge learned from action videos onto images to allow recognition of the principal action depicted in still image. Our intuition is that a generative model for knowledge transfer can be learned by taking advantage of the available action videos in the training stage to bridge images to videos. Based on this, we propose two complementary knowledge-transfer models utilizing fully connected networks to deliver the knowledge extracted from color and motion flow sequences to still images. We introduce a weighted reconstruction and classification loss to steer the generation procedure of the networks. In addition, we describe and analyze the influence of different data augmentation techniques, initialization strategies, and weighting coefficients for improving the performance. We observe that: both the transferred knowledge from color sequences and motion flow sequences can improve the performance of still image based human action recognition; the latter one which provides complementary dynamic information improves the performance a lot. We evaluate our models on two publicly available video based human action recognition datasets: UCF101 and HMDB51. To further validate the generalization ability of the proposed solution, we test the learned models from UCF101 dataset on two still image based human action recognition benchmarks: Willow7 Actions and the Sports. Our results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the baseline approaches with more than 2% accuracy, 3% accuracy, 3% accuracy and 5% mAP on UCF101, HMDB51, Sports and Willow 7 Actions datasets, respectively. Air pollution, which kills an estimated 7 million people every year, is one of the greatest environmental health risks of our times. Finding solutions to this threat poses challenges to practitioners and policymakers alike. Increasing awareness on the benefits of transdisciplinary research in solution-oriented sustainable development projects has led to the establishment of the research project "A Transdisciplinary Approach to Mitigate Emissions of Black Carbon" (TAME-BC). This paper introduces the TAME-BC research setup that took place with Metro Manila, Philippines, case study. The approach integrates BC measurements with technological, socio-political, and health aspects to improve the scientific state of the art, policymaking, transport sector planning, and clinical studies related to air pollution health effects. The first pillar in the setup presents an (1) air quality assessment through aerosol measurements and instrumentation, complemented by a (2) description and assessment of the current policies, technologies, and practices of the transport sector that is responsible for pollution levels in the Philippines, as well as a (3) BC exposure and associated health impacts assessment. The fourth pillar is intercrossing, fostering (4) knowledge co-creation through stakeholder involvement across scales. Background: Healthy ageing and high quality care are a global challenge. Multiple chronic conditions and the complexity of needs arising from them demands a rethinking of delivery systems, innovation, and resourcing. The need for sustainable resourcing drives professionals, end-users and the wider public and private sectors to draw on their experience and expertise to meet those needs. Tools and methodologies that help understand these complex transformational processes and orchestrate discussions of all stakeholders involved are core to this process. A collaboration of over 30 European regions is engaged in the development of an online selfassessment tool enabled by the EU funded project - SCIROCCO. The online tool has been developed to help regions to assess their progress and maturity in the provision of innovative integrated care services and encourages knowledge transfer and scaling-up of innovative integrated care solutions to support the at-scale adoption of integrated care across Europe. Aims and objectives: This workshop is an opportunity to explore the potential of the SCIROCCO self-assessment tool to facilitate collaboration and knowledge transfer that supports and accelerates the adoption of integrated care in Europe. The session will feature the experiences of three European regions - Basque Country Region in Spain, Norrbotten Region in Sweden and Puglia Region in Italy - of using the SCIROCCO tool. Each Region tested the tool in the process of assessing the maturity of their healthcare systems for the adoption of integrated care. The resulting assessments are now informing knowledge transfer activities in the form of twinning and coaching with the aim of facilitating improvement in the aspects of integrated care that the regions assessed themselves as being weaker. Target audience: A wide spectrum of stakeholders is being targeted: national and regional decision-makers, service delivery organisations, healthcare professionals, industry and academia. Learnings / Take away: The experience of over 30 regions and organisations testing the SCIROCCO tool demonstrate the clear benefits and added value of the self-assessment tool in stimulating multi-stakeholder discussions and learning on future directions in integrated care and transformation of health and care delivery systems.
