It focuses on optimizing key parameters for remote photovoltaic, wind, and battery energy storage within the grid, with a primary goal of sustaining 24-hour load demand. The study introduces a comprehensive approach that integrates fuel price dynamics and battery depletion costs into the optimization model for hybrid grids. This approach seeks a delicate balance between sustainable energy usage and cost-effectiveness. To achieve this balance, the research employs genetic algorithms, a robust computational technique. These algorithms play a vital role in calculating discharge-charge cycles and assessing battery health, addressing concerns about battery longevity and performance. Additionally, the study explores a machine learning framework, specifically nested learning, to further enhance the optimization process. Nested learning allows for the development of a sophisticated target function that considers various grid operation parameters and constraints. This machine learning approach enhances the system's ability to dynamically monitor power consumption and generation. Within this machine learning framework, the TD Lambda learning algorithm takes a prominent role in identifying the optimal function. This algorithm is well-known for its efficiency, particularly in non-Markovian scenarios. Its quick convergence enhances the overall performance of the hybrid grid, ensuring efficiency in changing conditions. The research also evaluates the impact of weight factors on various aspects, including battery charging status, algorithmic decisions, and their consequences on optimal energy pricing within the hybrid grid. This comprehensive assessment deepens the understanding of how these weight factors influence grid performance and economic viability.

Abstract This study explores the inherent nonlinearity of quarter car models by employing an experimental and numerical approach. The dynamics of vehicular suspension systems are pivotal for ensuring passenger comfort, vehicle stability, and overall ride quality. In this paper we assessed the impact of various parameters and components on suspension performance, enabled the optimization of ride comfort, stability, and handling characteristics. Firstly, experimental analysis allowed for the investigation of factors that are challenging to model theoretically, such as stiffness nonlinearity and damping characteristics, which may vary under different operating conditions. Time domain and frequency response diagram of the model has been obtained. Secondly, a quarter-car with single degree-of-freedom presented and investigated in fractional order form. Fractional order dynamics emphasize nonlinearities in quarter car models, capturing real-world dynamics effectively. The proposed fractional-order nonlinear quarter car model employed Caputo derivative. For numerical analysis of fractional order system, the Adam–Bashforth–Moulton method is used and the disturbance of road assumed to be stochastic. Results show that the dynamic response of the vehicle can be chaotic. Influence of road roughness amplitude and frequency on vehicle vibration is investigated.

Abstract A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) aided by the Internet of Things (IoT) is a collaborative system of WSN systems and IoT networks are work to exchange, gather, and handle data. The primary objective of this collaboration is to enhance data analysis and automation to facilitate improved decision-making. Securing IoT with the assistance of WSN necessitates the implementation of protective measures to confirm the safety and reliability of the interconnected WSN and IoT components. This research significantly advances the current state of the art in IoT and WSN security by synergistically harnessing the potential of machine learning and the Firefly Algorithm. The contributions of this work are twofold: firstly, the proposed FA-ML technique exhibits an exceptional capability to enhance intrusion detection accuracy within the WSN-IoT landscape. Secondly, the amalgamation of the Firefly Algorithm and machine learning introduces a novel dimension to the domain of security-oriented optimization techniques. The implications of this research resonate across various sectors, ranging from critical infrastructure protection to industrial automation and beyond, where safeguarding the integrity of interconnected systems are of paramount importance. The amalgamation of cutting-edge machine learning and bio-inspired algorithms marks a pivotal step forward in crafting robust and intelligent security measures for the evolving landscape of IoT-driven technologies. For intrusion detection in the WSN-IoT, the FA-ML method employs a support vector machine (SVM) machine model for classification with parameter tuning accomplished using a Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm. The experimental evaluation is simulated using NSL-KDD Dataset, revealing the remarkable enhancement of the FA-ML technique, achieving a maximum accuracy of 99.34%. In comparison, the KNN-PSO and XGBoost models achieved lower accuracies of 96.42% and 95.36%, respectively. The findings validate the potential of the FA-ML technique as an active security solution for WSN-IoT systems, harnessing the power of machine learning and the Firefly Algorithm to bolster intrusion detection capabilities.

It is significant to investigate the transmission dynamics of vector-borne infection because it has a global impact, can help predict and prevent future outbreaks, is important for understanding the impact of climate change on public health, can lead to more effective control strategies, and can improve our comprehension of the dynamics of these infections. Our paper presents a new model for chikungunya virus infection, which considers treatment and vaccination, using the Atangana-Baleanu derivative within the framework of the Caputo definition. First of all, we examine the positivity and uniqueness of the solution for the model. Then, we find out the fundamental results of the suggested model, such as the steady-state without infection and the R0 value that indicates endemicity pertaining to the system. Furthermore, we verify the local asymptotic stability of the infection-free steady-state. Through the application of fixed-point theory, we demonstrate the existence of the solution and propose a numerical methodology to investigate the dynamic behavior of the model. Finally, we performed simulations to demonstrate the effects of vaccination, transmission probability, treatment, and index of memory on the system's solution pathways. The findings of this research suggest the most sensitive parameters of the system responsible for the control and prevention of the infection. Emphasizing the significance of the memory index as an attractive parameter, we propose its consideration to the policy makers as a control parameter for the prevention of the infection.

This investigation centers on megastable systems, distinguished by their countable infinite attractors, with a particular emphasis on the Quadratic Megastable Oscillator (QMO). Unlike traditional megastable oscillators reliant on external excitation, our proposed QMO operates autonomously, contributing to its distinctiveness. Through a comprehensive exploration of the QMO, we elucidate various dynamical behaviors, enriching the understanding of its complex system dynamics. In contrast to conventional megastable oscillators, the QMO yields nested types of multiple attractors for diverse initial conditions, elegantly depicted in phase portraits. To gauge the sustainability of chaotic oscillation, we employ influential parameter bifurcation plots, providing a nuanced insight into the system’s dynamical evolution. The complexity of the proposed system is further underscored by its intricate basins of attraction, accommodating an infinite number of coexisting attractors. Exploring trajectory dynamics, we observe that certain initial conditions lead trajectories to distant destinations, evading the influence of local attractors. This behavior underscores the uniqueness of the QMO and highlights its potential applications in scenarios requiring nonlocalized attractor behaviors. Taking a practical turn, the QMO is applied to biometric fingerprint image encryption, demonstrating its efficacy in real-world applications. Rigorous statistical analyses and vulnerability assessments confirm the success of the QMO in providing secure encryption within chaotic system-based frameworks. This research contributes not only to the theoretical understanding of megastable systems but also establishes the QMO as a valuable tool in encryption applications, emphasizing its robustness and versatility in complex dynamical scenarios.

In this article, we focus on optimising the SLM-PTS-CT (selective mapping, partial transmission sequence, circular transformation) hybrid method for optical non-orthogonal multiple access (O-NOMA) waveforms. The goal is to enhance the spectrum performance and practicality of O-NOMA systems while mitigating the PAPR issue through a hybrid approach. The SLM-PTS-CT hybrid method is applicable to O-NOMA waveforms, providing effective PAPR reduction. By dividing the data sequence into sub-blocks, applying phase factors, and rotating the phase of the subcarriers in such a way that the peaks of the signal are distributed more uniformly, the proposed SLM-PTS-CT achieves an optimal PAPR reduction while maintaining the benefits of O-NOMA. The efficiency of the proposed method is analysed by estimating the performance of several parameters, such as bit error rate (BER), PAPR, and power spectral density (PSD), by increasing the number of sub-blocks (S) and phase factor (P). Further, the proposed SLM-PTS-CT is compared with the conventional SLM-PTS, SLM, and PTS. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach efficiently improves spectral efficiency, preserves BER performance, and reduces PAPR as compared with conventional methods.

Human evolution is carried out by two genetic systems based on DNA and another based on the transmission of information through the functions of the nervous system. In computational neuroscience, mathematical neural models are used to describe the biological function of the brain. Discrete-time neural models have received particular attention due to their simple analysis and low computational costs. From the concept of neuroscience, discrete fractional order neuron models incorporate the memory in a dynamic model. This paper introduces the fractional order discrete Rulkov neuron map. The presented model is analyzed dynamically and also in terms of synchronization ability. First, the Rulkov neuron map is examined in terms of phase plane, bifurcation diagram, and Lyapunov exponent. The biological behaviors of the Rulkov neuron map, such as silence, bursting, and chaotic firing, also exist in its discrete fractional-order version. The bifurcation diagrams of the proposed model are investigated under the effect of the neuron model's parameters and the fractional order. The stability regions of the system are theoretically and numerically obtained, and it is shown that increasing the order of the fractional order decreases the stable areas. Finally, the synchronization behavior of two fractional-order models is investigated. The results represent that the fractional-order systems cannot reach complete synchronization.

Working memory has been identified as a top-down modulation of the average spiking activity in different brain parts. However, such modification has not yet been reported in the middle temporal (MT) cortex. A recent study showed that the dimensionality of the spiking activity of MT neurons increases after deployment of spatial working memory. This study is devoted to analyzing the ability of nonlinear and classical features to capture the content of the working memory from the spiking activity of MT neurons. The results suggest that only the Higuchi fractal dimension can be considered as a unique indicator of working memory while the Margaos-Sun fractal dimension, Shannon entropy, corrected conditional entropy, and skewness are perhaps indicators of other cognitive factors such as vigilance, awareness, and arousal as well as working memory.

Neural signatures of working memory have been frequently identified in the spiking activity of different brain areas. However, some studies reported no memory-related change in the spiking activity of the middle temporal (MT) area in the visual cortex. However, recently it was shown that the content of working memory is reflected as an increase in the dimensionality of the average spiking activity of the MT neurons. This study aimed to find the features that can reveal memory-related changes with the help of machine-learning algorithms. In this regard, different linear and nonlinear features were obtained from the neuronal spiking activity during the presence and absence of working memory. To select the optimum features, the Genetic algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, and Ant Colony Optimization methods were employed. The classification was performed using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) and the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classifiers. Our results suggest that the deployment of spatial working memory can be perfectly detected from spiking patterns of MT neurons with an accuracy of 99.65±0.12 using the KNN and 99.50±0.26 using the SVM classifiers.

Investigating the effect of changes in neuronal connectivity on the brain's behavior is of interest in neuroscience studies. Complex network theory is one of the most capable tools to study the effects of these changes on collective brain behavior. By using complex networks, the neural structure, function, and dynamics can be analyzed. In this context, various frameworks can be used to mimic neural networks, among which multi-layer networks are a proper one. Compared to single-layer models, multi-layer networks can provide a more realistic model of the brain due to their high complexity and dimensionality. This paper examines the effect of changes in asymmetry coupling on the behaviors of a multi-layer neuronal network. To this aim, a two-layer network is considered as a minimum model of left and right cerebral hemispheres communicated with the corpus callosum. The chaotic model of Hindmarsh-Rose is taken as the dynamics of the nodes. Only two neurons of each layer connect two layers of the network. In this model, it is assumed that the layers have different coupling strengths, so the effect of each coupling change on network behavior can be analyzed. As a result, the projection of the nodes is plotted for several coupling strengths to investigate how the asymmetry coupling influences the network behaviors. It is observed that although no coexisting attractor is present in the Hindmarsh-Rose model, an asymmetry in couplings causes the emergence of different attractors. The bifurcation diagrams of one node of each layer are presented to show the variation of the dynamics due to coupling changes. For further analysis, the network synchronization is investigated by computing intra-layer and inter-layer errors. Calculating these errors shows that the network can be synchronized only for large enough symmetric coupling.

In nonlinear dynamics, there is a continuous exploration of introducing systems with evidence of chaotic behavior. The presence of nonlinearity within system equations is crucial, as it allows for the emergence of chaotic dynamics. Given that quadratic terms represent the simplest form of nonlinearity, our study focuses on introducing a novel chaotic system characterized by only quadratic nonlinearities. We conducted an extensive analysis of this system’s dynamical properties, encompassing the examination of equilibrium stability, bifurcation phenomena, Lyapunov analysis, and the system’s basin of attraction. Our investigations revealed the presence of eight unstable equilibria, the coexistence of symmetrical strange repeller(s), and the potential for multistability in the system.

We discuss the dynamics of a fractional order discrete neuron model with electromagnetic flux coupling. The discussed neuron model is a simple one-dimensional map which is modified by considering flux coupling. We consider a discrete fractional order memristor to mimic the effects of electromagnetic flux on the neuron model. The bifurcation dynamics of the fractional order neuron map show an inverse period-doubling route to chaos as a function of control parameters, namely the fractional order of the map and the flux coupling coefficient. The bifurcation dynamics of the systems are derived both in the time and frequency domains. We present a two-parameter phase diagram using the Lyapunov exponent to categorize the various dynamics present in the system. In addition to the Lyapunov exponent, we use the entropy of the model to distinguish the various dynamics of the systems. To investigate the network behavior of the fractional order neuron map, a lattice array of $ N\times N $ nodes is constructed and external periodic stimuli are applied to the network. The formation of spiral waves in the network and the impact of various parameters, like the fractional order, flux coupling coefficient and the coupling strength on the wave propagation are also considered in our analysis.

This work studies the dynamics of a three dimensional Hopfield neural network focusing on the impact of bias terms. In the presence of bias terms, the models displays an odd symmetry and experiences typical behaviors including period doubling, spontaneous symmetry breaking, merging crisis, bursting oscillation, coexisting attractors and coexisting period-doubling reversals as well. Multistability control is investigated by employing the linear augmentation feedback strategy. We numerically prove that the multistable neural system can be adjusted to experience only a single attractor behavior when the coupling coefficient is gradually monitored. Experimental results from a microcontroller based realization of the underlined neural system are consistent with the theoretical analysis.

In recent times, studies on discrete nonlinear systems received much attention among researchers because of their potential applications in real-world problems. In this study, we conducted an in-depth exploration into the stability of synchronization within discrete nonlinear systems, specifically focusing on the Hindmarsh–Rose map, the Chialvo neuron model, and the Lorenz map. Our methodology revolved around the utilization of the master stability function approach. We systematically examined all conceivable coupling configurations for each model to ascertain the stability of synchronization manifolds. The outcomes underscored that only distinct coupling schemes manifest stable synchronization manifolds, while others do not exhibit this trait. Furthermore, a comprehensive analysis of the master stability function’s behavior was performed across a diverse range of coupling strengths σ and system parameters. These findings greatly enhance our understanding of network dynamics, as discrete-time dynamical systems adeptly replicate the dynamics of continuous-time models, offering significant reductions in computational complexity.

The Rulkov map model is an efficient model for reproducing different dynamics of the neurons. In specific neurons, the electrical activity is regulated by time-delayed self-feedback called autapse. This paper investigates how the dynamics of the Rulkov model change by considering the autaptic current. Both electrical and chemical autapses are considered, and bifurcation diagrams are plotted for different autapse gains and time delays. Consequently, various firing patterns of the model are illustrated. The results represent that the firing pattern is greatly dependent on the values of autapse parameters. Moreover, the average firing frequency is computed and it is shown that the enhanced firing activity is induced by the inhibitory autapse. The synchronous dynamics of coupled Rulkov maps in the presence of autapse is also studied. It is shown that the electrical autapse enhances synchronization in small time delays, while the enhancement is achieved by chemical autapse in any time delay. However, increasing the time delay reduces the synchronization region.

Map-based neuronal models have received much attention due to their high speed, efficiency, flexibility, and simplicity. Therefore, they are suitable for investigating different dynamical behaviors in neuronal networks, which is one of the recent hottest topics. Recently, the memristive version of the Rulkov model, known as the m-Rulkov model, has been introduced. This paper investigates the network of the memristive version of the Rulkov neuron map to study the effect of the memristor on collective behaviors. Firstly, two m-Rulkov neuronal models are coupled in different cases, through electrical synapses, chemical synapses, and both electrical and chemical synapses. The results show that two electrically coupled memristive neurons can become synchronous, while the previous studies have shown that two non-memristive Rulkov neurons do not synchronize when they are coupled electrically. In contrast, chemical coupling does not lead to synchronization; instead, two neurons reach the same resting state. However, the presence of both types of couplings results in synchronization. The same investigations are carried out for a network of 100 m-Rulkov models locating in a ring topology. Different firing patterns, such as synchronization, lagged-phase synchronization, amplitude death, non-stationary chimera state, and traveling chimera state, are observed for various electrical and chemical coupling strengths. Furthermore, the synchronization of neurons in the electrical coupling relies on the network's size and disappears with increasing the nodes number.

The discrete system serves an important role in mimicking collective dynamics found in continuous dynamical systems, which are relevant to many realistic natural and artificial systems. To investigate the dynamical transition of a discrete system, we employ three-dimensional sinusoidal discrete maps with an additional self feedback factor. Specifically, we focus on dynamical transitions with respect to the bifurcation parameter, sine function amplitude, and intensity of self feedback factors. We demonstrate the presence of symmetry in relation to parametric variation using two parameter diagrams. The study is then expanded to the network of sine maps in the presence of self-feedback factor. We discover that negative feedback exhibits the transition from cluster state to synchronization while raising the coupling strength for small-world network interactions. Furthermore, increasing feedback from negative to positive causes the transition from synchronization to desynchronization via chimera state for various complex network connectivities.

To understand the variations in the financial characteristics, we examine the dynamical behaviors by considering the chaotic financial model with external force. First, the dynamical characteristics are analyzed by introducing the external driven force in the price index with commodity demand. We discover that the presence of an external force causes the alternate occurrence of oscillatory and steady states as a function of time. Interestingly, we find the existence of bifurcation delay (BD) during the transition from oscillatory (OS) to steady state (SS) or vice versa. Bifurcation delay is a phenomenon in which the bifurcation does not occur at the actual bifurcation point but rather at a later time, which is referred to as bifurcation delay. To confirm the delay in bifurcation, we estimate the actual bifurcation point and compare it to the observed bifurcation transition. Furthermore, to understand the variations in the bifurcation delay, we estimate the delay time between each consecutive cycle and find random fluctuations in the BD. Following that, the BD is virtualized via a transformed phase portrait. In addition, we show decreasing the value of average BD while increasing the frequency of external forcing. Second, the presence of BD is explored by incorporating external forces into the investment demand with unit investment cost. We discover the existence of a similar phenomenon with a constant bifurcation delay.

The present study addresses the fluid transport behaviour of the flow of gold (Au)-copper (Cu)/biomagnetic blood hybrid nanofluid in an inclined irregular stenosis artery as a consequence of varying viscosity and Lorentz force. The nonlinear flow equations are transformed into dimensionless form by using nonsimilar variables. The finite-difference technique (FTCS) is involved in computing the nonlinear transport dimensionless equations. The significant parameters like angle parameter, the Hartmann number, changing viscosity, constant heat source, the Reynolds number, and nanoparticle volume fraction on the flow field are exhibited through figures. Present results disclose that the Lorentz force strongly lessens the hybrid nanofluid velocity. Elevating the Grashof number values enhances the rate of blood flow. Growing values of the angle parameter cause to reduce the resistance impedance on the wall. Hybrid nanoparticles have a superior wall shear stress than copper nanoparticles. The heat transfer rate is amplifying at the axial direction with the growing values of nanoparticles concentration. The applied Lorentz force significantly reduces the hybrid and unitary nanofluid flow rate in the axial direction. The hybrid nanoparticles expose a supreme rate of heat transfer than the copper nanoparticles in a blood base fluid. Compared to hybrid and copper nanofluid, the blood base fluid has a lower temperature.

In this paper, we propose a new and simple method for image encryption. It uses an external secret key of 128 bits long and an internal secret key. The novelties of the proposed encryption process are the methods used to extract an internal key to apply the zigzag process, affine transformation, and substitution-diffusion process. Initially, an original gray-scale image is converted into binary images. An internal secret key is extracted from binary images. The two keys are combined to compute the substitution-diffusion keys. The zigzag process is firstly applied on each binary image. Using an external key, every zigzag binary image is reflected or rotated and a new gray-scale image is reconstructed. The new image is divided into many nonoverlapping subblocks, and each subblock uses its own key to take out a substitution-diffusion process. We tested our algorithms on many biomedical and nonmedical images. It is seen from evaluation metrics that the proposed image encryption scheme provides good statistical and diffusion properties and can resist many kinds of attacks. It is an efficient and secure scheme for real-time encryption and transmission of biomedical images in telemedicine.

This work introduces a three-dimensional, highly nonlinear quadratic oscillator with no linear terms in its equations. Most of the quadratic ordinary differential equations (ODEs) such as Chen, Rossler, and Lorenz have at least one linear term in their equations. Very few quadratic systems have been introduced and all of their terms are nonlinear. Considering this point, a new quadratic system with no linear term is introduced. This oscillator is analyzed by mathematical tools such as bifurcation and Lyapunov exponent diagrams. It is revealed that this system can generate different behaviors such as limit cycle, torus, and chaos for its different parameters’ sets. Besides, the basins of attractions for this system are investigated. As a result, it is revealed that this system’s attractor is self-excited. In addition, the analog circuit of this oscillator is designed and analyzed to assess the feasibility of the system’s chaotic solution. The PSpice simulations confirm the theoretical analysis. The oscillator’s time series complexity is also investigated using sample entropy. It is revealed that this system can generate dynamics with different sample entropies by changing parameters. Finally, impulsive control is applied to the system to represent a possible solution for stabilizing the system.

This paper is reporting on electronic implementation of a three-dimensional autonomous system with infinite equilibrium point belonging to a parabola. Performance analysis of an adaptive synchronization via relay coupling and a hybrid steganography chaos encryption application are provided. Besides striking parabolic equilibrium, the proposed three-dimensional autonomous system also exhibits hidden chaotic oscillations as well as hidden chaotic bursting oscillations. Electronic implementation of the hidden chaotic behaviors is done to confirm their physical existence. A good qualitative agreement is shown between numerical simulations and OrCAD-PSpice results. Moreover, adaptive synchronization via relay coupling of three three-dimensional autonomous systems with a parabolic equilibrium is analysed by using time histories. Numerical results demonstrate that global synchronization is achieved between the three units. Finally, chaotic behavior found is exploited to provide a suitable text encryption scheme by hidden secret message inside an image using steganography and chaos encryption.

Here, a novel conservative chaotic oscillator is presented. Various dynamics of the oscillator are examined. Studying the dynamical properties of the oscillator reveals its unique behaviors. The oscillator is multistable with symmetric dynamics. Equilibrium points of the oscillator are investigated. Bifurcations, Lyapunov exponents (LEs), and the Poincare section of the oscillator’s dynamics are analyzed. Also, the oscillator is investigated from the viewpoint of initial conditions. The study results show that the oscillator is conservative and has no dissipation. It also has various dynamics, such as equilibrium point and chaos. The stability analysis of equilibrium points shows there are both stable and unstable fixed points.

Memristor is a non-linear circuit element in which voltage-current relationship is determined by the previous values of the voltage and current, generally the history of the circuit. The nonlinearity in this component can be considered as a fractional-order form, which yields a fractional memristor (fracmemristor). In this paper, a fractional-order memristor in a chaotic oscillator is applied, while the other electronic elements are of integer order. The fractional-order range is determined in a way that the circuit has chaotic solutions. Also, the statistical and dynamical features of this circuit are analyzed. Tools like Lyapunov exponents and bifurcation diagram show the existence of multistability and antimonotonicity, two less common properties in chaotic circuits.

Aims: Extracellular matrix (ECM) and its architecture have a vital role in articular cartilage (AC) structure and function. We hypothesized that a multi-layered chitosan-gelatin (CG) scaffold that resembles ECM, as well as native collagen architecture of AC, will achieve superior chondrogenesis and AC regeneration. We also compared its in vitro and in vivo outcomes with randomly aligned CG scaffold. Methods: Rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were differentiated into the chondrogenic lineage on scaffolds. Quality of in vitro regenerated cartilage was assessed by cell viability, growth, matrix synthesis, and differentiation. Bilateral osteochondral defects were created in 15 four-month-old male New Zealand white rabbits and segregated into three treatment groups with five in each. The groups were: 1) untreated and allogeneic chondrocytes; 2) multi-layered scaffold with and without cells; and 3) randomly aligned scaffold with and without cells. After four months of follow-up, the outcome was assessed using histology and immunostaining. Results: In vitro testing showed that the secreted ECM oriented itself along the fibre in multi-layered scaffolds. Both types of CG scaffolds supported cell viability, growth, and matrix synthesis. In vitro chondrogenesis on scaffold showed an around 400-fold increase in collagen type 2 (COL2A1) expression in both CG scaffolds, but the total glycosaminoglycan (GAG)/DNA deposition was 1.39-fold higher in the multi-layered scaffold than the randomly aligned scaffold. In vivo cartilage formation occurred in both multi-layered and randomly aligned scaffolds treated with and without cells, and was shown to be of hyaline phenotype on immunostaining. The defects treated with multi-layered + cells, however, showed significantly thicker cartilage formation than the randomly aligned scaffold. Conclusion: We demonstrated that MSCs loaded CG scaffold with multi-layered zonal architecture promoted superior hyaline AC regeneration.

In this paper, a new jerk system is designed. This system can display different characters of equilibrium points according to the value of its parameters. The proposed nonlinear oscillator can have both self-excited and hidden attractors. Dynamical properties of this system are investigated with the help of eigenvalues of equilibria, Lyapunov exponents' spectrum, and bifurcation diagrams. Also, an electronic circuit implementation is carried out to show the feasibility of this system. As an engineering application of this new chaotic jerk system, a chaotic communication system is realized by correlation delay shift keying. When the results of the communication system are examined, the transmitted information signal is successfully obtained in the receiving unit, and its performance efficiency is investigated in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise.

In this paper, a chaotification method based on the internal perturbation model (IPM) is proposed. The single-perturbation and the multiple-perturbations are introduced. The Sine map is taken as an example. Moreover, this method can be generalized to high-dimensional maps that contain sine, no matter where the sine term is in the system equation. we further apply IPM to an integer-order and a fractional-order Sine-series map. For those new maps, the parameter space and FuzzyEn complexity are significantly extended while maintaining the topological structure of system. These complex behaviors and digital signal processing (DSP) implementation validate the effectiveness of IPM and make it have the potential of better secure communication and encryption.

The dynamical interplay of coupled non-identical chaotic oscillators gives rise to diverse scenarios. The incoherent dynamics of these oscillators lead to the structural impairment of attractors in phase space. This paper investigates the couplings of Lorenz–Rössler, Lorenz–HR, and Rössler–HR to identify the dominant attractor. By dominant attractor, we mean the attractor that is less changed by coupling. For comparison and similarity detection, a cost function based on the return map of the coupled systems is used. The possible effects of frequency and amplitude differences between the systems on the results are also examined. Finally, the inherent chaotic characteristic of systems is compared by computing the largest Lyapunov exponent. The results suggest that in each coupling case, the attractor with the greater largest Lyapunov exponent is dominant.

Fractional nonlinear systems have been considered in many fields due to their ability to bring memory-dependent properties into various systems. Therefore, using fractional derivatives to model real-world phenomena, such as neuronal dynamics, is of significant importance. This paper presents the fractional memristive Wilson neuron model and studies its dynamics as a single neuron. Furthermore, the collective behavior of neurons is researched when they are locally and diffusively coupled in a ring topology. It is found that the fractional-order neurons are bistable in some values of the fractional order. Additionally, complete synchronization, lag synchronization, phase synchronization, and sine-like synchronization patterns can be observed in the constructed network with different fractional orders.

There have been many different investigations of nonlinear dynamical systems. In this paper, we introduce a new chaotic system. In the proposed system, the attractor can be modified by adding a nonlinear term to the third state equation, thereby generating six different self-excited chaotic attractors. Some dynamical properties such as Hopf bifurcation, bifurcation diagrams, and multistability of the proposed system are investigated. The new system shows topologically different attractors for all six cases. We investigate two cases in depth. We also use nonlinear feedback control to drive the system to equilibrium, using two cases for illustration.

An amplitude controllable hyperjerk system is constructed for chaos producing by introducing a nonlinear factor of memristor. In this case, the amplitude control is realized from a single coefficient in the memristor. The hyperjerk system has a line of equilibria and also shows extreme multistability indicated by the initial value-associated bifurcation diagram. FPGA-based circuit realization is also given for physical verification. Finally, the proposed memristive hyperjerk system is successfully predicted with artificial neural networks for AI based engineering applications.

Recently, megastable systems have grabbed many researchers’ interests in the area of nonlinear dynamics and chaotic systems. In this paper, the oscillatory terms’ coefficients of the simplest megastable oscillator are forced to blink in time. The forced system can generate an infinitive number of hidden attractors without changing parameters. The behavior of these hidden attractors can be chaotic, tori, and limit cycle. The attractors’ topology of the system seems unique and looks like picture frames. Besides, the existence of different coexisting attractors with different kinds of behaviors reflects the system's high sensitivity. Using the sample entropy algorithm, the system’s complexity for different initial values is assessed. In addition, the circuit of the introduced forced system is designed, and the possibility of implicating the system with analog elements is investigated.

Memristor-based oscillators are of recent interest, and hence, in this paper, we introduce a new Wien bridge oscillator with a fractional-order memristor. The novelty of the proposed oscillator is the multistability feature and the wide range of fractional orders for which the system shows chaos. We have investigated the various dynamical properties of the proposed oscillator and have presented them in detail. The oscillator is then realized using off-the-shelf components, and the results are compared with that of the numerical results. A combination synchronization scheme is proposed which uses more than one driver systems to synchronize with one response system. Indeed, we use two different techniques where the first one consists of splitting the transmitted signals into two parts where each part is loaded in different drive systems, while the second one consists of dividing time into different intervals and loading the signals in different drive systems. Such techniques improve the antiattack capability of the systems when used for secure communication.

In this work, we consider a quasilinear system of viscoelastic equations with degenerate damping and source terms without the Kirchhoff term. Under suitable hypothesis, we study the blow-up of solutions.

Designing chaotic systems with different properties helps to increase our knowledge about real-world chaotic systems. In this article, a piecewise linear (PWL) term is employed to modify a simple chaotic system and obtain a new chaotic model. The proposed model does not have any equilibrium for different values of the control parameters. Therefore, its attractor is hidden. It is shown that the PWL term causes an offset boostable variable. This feature provides more flexibility and controllability in the designed system. Numerical analyses show that periodic and chaotic attractors coexist in some fixed values of the parameters, indicating multistability. Also, the feasibility of the system is approved by designing field programmable gate arrays (FPGA).

Megastable chaotic systems are somehow the newest in the family of special chaotic systems. In this paper, a new megastable two-dimensional system is proposed. In this system, coexisting attractors are in some islands, interestingly covered by megalimit cycles. The introduced two-dimensional system has no defined equilibrium point. However, it seems that the origin plays the role of an unstable equilibrium point. Therefore, the attractors are determined as hidden attractors. Adding a forcing term to the system, we can obtain chaotic solutions and coexisting strange attractors. Moreover, the effect of three different values of the forcing term’s amplitude is studied. The dynamical properties of the designed system are investigated using attractor plots, bifurcation diagrams, and Lyapunov Exponents diagram. Phase portraits of the novel megastable oscillator are presented by FPGA design. Xilinx system generator block diagrams of the proposed system and trigonometric functions are also presented.

In this paper, bifurcation points of two chaotic maps are studied: symmetric sine map and Gaussian map. Investigating the properties of these maps shows that they have a variety of dynamical solutions by changing the bifurcation parameter. Sine map has symmetry with respect to the origin, which causes multistability in its dynamics. The systems’ bifurcation diagrams show various dynamics and bifurcation points. Predicting bifurcation points of dynamical systems is vital. Any bifurcation can cause a huge wanted/unwanted change in the states of a system. Thus, their predictions are essential in order to be prepared for the changes. Here, the systems’ bifurcations are studied using three indicators of critical slowing down: modified autocorrelation method, modified variance method, and Lyapunov exponent. The results present the efficiency of these indicators in predicting bifurcation points.

The fractional calculus in the neuronal models provides the memory properties. In the fractional-order neuronal model, the dynamics of the neuron depends on the derivative order, which can produce various types of memory-dependent dynamics. In this paper, the behaviors of the coupled fractional-order FitzHugh–Nagumo neurons are investigated. The effects of the coupling strength and the derivative order are under consideration. It is revealed that the level of the synchronization is decreased by decreasing the derivative order, and the chimera state emerges for stronger couplings. Furthermore, the patterns of the formed chimeras rely on the order of the derivatives.

The nonlinear dynamics of an incommensurate fractional-order single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB) power system benchmark model are explored and studied by means of modern nonlinear analysis theories, such as bifurcation, chaos, power spectral density (PSD), and bicoherence methods. The effect of incommensurate order derivatives on power system dynamics is presented. The study reveals that the power system undergoes interesting dynamics such as periodic motion, chaotic oscillations, and multistability whenever the system parameter values fall into particular ranges. A new fractional-order linear augmentation-based control scheme is applied to damp out the power system’s chaotic oscillation, change the stability of the coexisting states, and drive the system from multistability to monostability. The stability of the proposed control system is derived using Lyapunov theory. Simulation results confirmed the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control scheme in damping power system oscillations and achieving good overall performance. The results in this paper will give a better understanding of the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the incommensurate fractional-order SMIB power system.

Studying new chaotic flows with specific characteristics has been an open-ended field of exploring nonlinear dynamics. Investigation of chaotic flows is an area of research that has been taken into consideration for many years; thus, it helps in a better understanding of the chaotic systems. In this paper, an original chaotic 3D system, which has not been investigated yet, is presented in spherical coordinates. A unique feature of the proposed system is that its velocity becomes zero for a specific value of the radius variable. Hence, the system’s attractor is expected to be stuck on one side of a plane in spherical coordinates and inside or outside a sphere in the corresponding Cartesian coordinates. It means that the attractor cannot pass through the sphere or even touch it. The introduced system owns two unstable equilibria and a self-excited strange attractor. The 1D and 2D system’s bifurcation diagrams concerning the alteration of two bifurcation parameters are plotted to investigate the system’s dynamical properties. Moreover, the system’s Lyapunov exponents in the corresponding period of bifurcation parameters are calculated. Then, two 2D basins of attraction for two different third dimension values are explored. Based on the basin of attraction, it can be found that the sphere has attraction itself, partially, and some initial conditions are led to the sphere, not to the strange attractor. Ultimately, the connecting curves of the proposed system are explored to find an informative 1D set in addition to the system’s equilibria.

Fractional-order neuronal models that include memory effects can describe the rich dynamics of the firing of the neurons. This paper studies synchronization problems in a multiple network of Caputo–Fabrizio type fractional order neurons in which the orders of the derivatives in the layers are different. It is observed that the intralayer synchronization state occurs in weaker intralayer couplings when using nonidentical fractional-order derivatives rather than integer-order or identical fractional orders. Furthermore, the needed interlayer coupling strength for interlayer near synchronization decreases for lower fractional orders. The dynamics of the neurons in nonidentical layers are also considered. It is shown that in lower fractional orders, the neurons’ dynamics change to periodic when the near synchronization state occurs. Moreover, decreasing the derivative order leads to incrementing the frequency of the bursts in the synchronization manifold, which is in contrast to the behavior of the single neuron.

Multimedia data play an important role in our daily lives. The evolution of internet technologies means that multimedia data can easily participate amongst various users for specific purposes, in which multimedia data confidentiality and integrity have serious security issues. Chaos models play an important role in designing robust multimedia data cryptosystems. In this paper, a novel chaotic oscillator is presented. The oscillator has a particular property in which the chaotic dynamics are around pre-located manifolds. Various dynamics of the oscillator are studied. After analyzing the complex dynamics of the oscillator, it is applied to designing a new image cryptosystem, in which the results of the presented cryptosystem are tested from various viewpoints such as randomness, time encryption, correlation, plain image sensitivity, key-space, key sensitivity, histogram, entropy, resistance to classical types of attacks, and data loss analyses. The goal of the paper is proposing an applicable encryption method based on a novel chaotic oscillator with an attractor around a pre-located manifold. All the investigations confirm the reliability of using the presented cryptosystem for various IoT applications from image capture to use it.

We have investigated a fractional-order phase-locked loop characterised by a third-order differential equation. The integer-order mathematical model of the phase-locked loop (PLL) is first converted to fractional order using the Caputo-Fabrizio method. The stability of the equilibrium points is discussed in detail in both parameter and fractional-order domain. The proposed fractional-order phase-locked loop (FOPLL) model shows multiple coexisting attractors which was not discussed in the earlier literature of PLL. The significance of these infinite coexisting attractors is that they exist in the operation region of the PLL between [−π,π] which increases the complexity of operation of the PLLs. Mainly when such FOPLLs are used in large-scale networks, the synchronisation of the FOPLLs becomes complicated and will result in unstable control conditions. Hence, studying the network dynamics of such FOPLLs is significant which motivates us to investigate the synchronisation phenomenon of the FOPLLs constructed in a square network. We could show that, because of the multiple coexisting attractors, the FOPLLs show various synchronisation phenomena, and more importantly in the chaotic region for lower fractional-order values, we could show that the FOPLLs are synchronised and this finding is very useful to completely analyse the FOPLL networks in high-frequency operations.

First, this paper announces a flux controlled novel 4-D chaotic system displaying chaotic attractor modified from a 4D hyperchaotic system. The phase portraits of the novel chaotic system are displayed and the qualitative properties are discussed. Next we derive the complex model of the proposed 4D system. We investigate the dynamic properties of the complex systems. Adaptive sliding mode control is used to achieve non-identical synchronization of the complex systems. In this paper we derived the fractional order model of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) from its integer model. The PMSG was employing a shaft sensor for the speed sensing and control. But this sensor would increase the hardware complexity as well as the cost of the system. Hence we have developed a Fractional order Nonlinear adaptive control method for speed and current tracking of the PMSG. The objective of an adaptive controller is to first define a virtual control state and force it to become a stabilizing function in accordance with a corresponding error dynamics. In order to study the Lyapunov exponents of the fractional order controller, we proposed a new method which would remove the complexity of finding the sign of the Lyapunov first derivative. The Fractional order control scheme is implemented in LabVIEW for simulation results. The simulation results indicated that the estimated rotor position and speed correspond to their actual values well. Abstract Background Transplanting myogenic cells and scaffolds for tissue engineering in skeletal muscle have shown inconsistent results. One of the limiting factors is neovascularization at the recipient site. Low intensity shockwave therapy (Li-SWT) has been linked to increased tissue regeneration and vascularization, both integral to survival and integration of transplanted cells. This study was conducted to demonstrate the response of myoblasts and skeletal muscle to Li-SWT. Method Primary isolated human myoblasts and explants were treated with low intensity shockwaves and subsequently cell viability, proliferation and differentiation were tested. Cardiotoxin induced injury was created in tibialis anterior muscles of 28 mice, and two days later, the lesions were treated with 500 impulses of Li-SWT on one of the legs. The treatment was repeated every third day of the period and ended on day 14 after cardiotoxin injection.. The animals were followed up and documented up to 21 days after cardiotoxin injury. Results Li-SWT had no significant effect on cell death, proliferation, differentiation and migration, the explants however showed decreased adhesion. In the animal experiments, qPCR studies revealed a significantly increased expression of apoptotic, angiogenic and myogenic genes; expression of Bax, Bcl2, Casp3, eNOS, Pax7, Myf5 and Met was increased in the early phase of regeneration in the Li-SWT treated hind limbs. Furthermore, a late accumulative angiogenic effect was demonstrated in the Li-SWT treated limbs by a significantly increased expression of Angpt1, eNOS, iNOS, Vegfa, and Pecam1. Conclusion Treatment was associated with an early upregulation in expression of selected apoptotic, pro-inflammatory, angiogenic and satellite cell activating genes after muscle injury. It also showed a late incremental effect on expression of pro-angiogenic genes. However, we found no changes in the number of PAX7 positive cells or blood vessel density in Li-SWT treated and control muscle. Furthermore, Li-SWT in the selected doses did not decrease survival, proliferation or differentiation of myoblasts in vitro.

This work proposes a one-dimensional chaotic map with a simple structure and three parameters. The phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, and Lyapunov exponent diagrams are first plotted to study the dynamical behavior of the map. It is seen that the map exhibits areas of constant chaos with respect to all parameters. This map is then applied to the problem of pseudo-random bit generation using a simple technique to generate four bits per iteration. It is shown that the algorithm passes all statistical NIST and ENT tests, as well as shows low correlation and an acceptable key space. The generated bitstream is applied to the problem of chaotic path planning, for an autonomous robot or generally an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) exploring a given 3D area. The aim is to ensure efficient area coverage, while also maintaining an unpredictable motion. Numerical simulations were performed to evaluate the performance of the path planning strategy, and it is shown that the coverage percentage converges exponentially to 100% as the number of iterations increases. The discrete motion is also adapted to a smooth one through the use of B-Spline curves.

In this paper, the stabilization and synchronization of a complex hidden chaotic attractor is shown. This article begins with the dynamic analysis of a complex Lorenz chaotic system considering the vector field properties of the analyzed system in the Cn domain. Then, considering first the original domain of attraction of the complex Lorenz chaotic system in the equilibrium point, by using the required set topology of this domain of attraction, one hidden chaotic attractor is found by finding the intersection of two sets in which two of the parameters, r and b, can be varied in order to find hidden chaotic attractors. Then, a backstepping controller is derived by selecting extra state variables and establishing the required Lyapunov functionals in a recursive methodology. For the control synchronization law, a similar procedure is implemented, but this time, taking into consideration the error variable which comprise the difference of the response system and drive system, to synchronize the response system with the original drive system which is the original complex Lorenz system.

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the control of 4-D nonautonomous fractional-order uncertain model of a PI speed-regulated current-driven induction motor (FOIM) using a fractional-order adaptive sliding mode controller (FOASMC). First, we derive a dimensionless fractional-order model of the induction motor from the well-known integer -model of the induction motor. Various dynamic properties of the fractional-order induction motor, such as stability of the equilibrium points, Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation, and bicoherence, are investigated. An adaptive controller is derived to suppress the chaotic oscillations of the fractional-order model of the induction motor. Numerical simulations of the adaptive chaos suppression methodology are depicted for the fractional-order uncertain model of the induction motor to validate the analytical results of this work. A genetically optimized fractional-order PID (FOPID) controller is also derived to stabilize the states of the FOIM system. FPGA implementation of the proposed FOASMC is also presented to show that the proposed controller is hardware realizable.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a commonly occurring genetic disorder in children. Mutation in the NF1 gene has its implication in poor osteoblastic capabilities. We hypothesised that pamidronate will enhance the osteoblastic potential of the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from lipofibromatosis tissue of children with congenital pseudarthrosis tibia (CPT) associated with NF1. In this study, bone marrow MSCs (BM MSCs) and CPT MSCs were obtained from three patients undergoing salvage surgeries/bone grafting (healthy controls) and those undergoing excision of the hamartoma and corrective surgeries respectively. The effects of pamidronate (0, 10 nM, 100 nM and 1 μM) on cell proliferation, toxicity and differentiation potential were assessed and the outcome was measured by staining and gene expression. Our outcome showed that CPT MSCs had more proliferation rate as compared to BM MSCs. All 3 doses of pamidronate did not cause any toxicity to the cells in both the groups. The CPT MSCs showed less differentiation with pamidronate compared to the healthy control MSCs. This was quantitated by staining and gene expression analysis. Therefore, supplementation with pamidronate alone will not aid in bone formation in patients diagnosed with CPT. An additional stimulus is required to enhance bone formation.
