Hip dysplasia (CFD) is the most common orthopedic case in small animal clinics, and, from this, other conditions can arise, such as lateral dislocation of the patella. The objective of this work is to present the preventive surgical treatment for DCF, using the technique of juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (SPJ), and also the surgical treatment to correct lateral patellar dislocation using the trochlear chondroplasty technique in a 4-month-old canine patient., who had hip instability and a history of lameness in the right pelvic limb. SPJ constitutes a prophylactic treatment for FCD that consists of the induced suspension of bone growth in the pubic symphysis region. Trochlear chondroplasty was the technique for deepening the trochlear groove which, together with intervention in the soft tissues, had the function of fixing the patella in its anatomical position. It is concluded that the use of the SPJ technique had the main function of preventing CFD in a young animal, just as trochlear chondroplasty had the reestablishment of normal function of the affected limb. ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of the research was to carry out a comparative study between Smith & Nephew ® or Zimmer ® prostheses with thick versus thin polyethylene, in patients undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty, during a short-term follow-up. Thus, the objective was to analyze the survival of the implants in question under the clinical and radiographic aspect. Methods: The sample was divided into two groups: Group 1 with thick polyethylene and group 2 with thin polyethylene. A clinical analysis of the patients was carried out and the implants were checked for loosening. Results: The groups were similar when compared. According to the Ahlbäck classification, 83% of the patients were in groups IV and V. The median functional score in the postoperative period was similar between the two groups. Postoperatively, the tibiofemoral angle fluctuated between 5 and 6 0 valgus on average. Two complications were observed in each group. None of the evaluated patients presented implant loosening Conclusion: Patients treated with thick polyethylene had the same functional score as the control group, as well as the absence of radiographic changes in this short-term follow-up, with implant survival and a similar rate of complications between both groups. Introdução: A osteoartrite (OA) é principal causa de diminuição da função articular, com impacto nas atividades da vida diária. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o perfil epidemiológico dos pacientes atendidos em um ambulatório de tratamento conservador da osteoartrite do joelho em uma instituição de nível terciário do Sistema Único de Saúde. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional e transversal avaliando 577 pacientes com osteoartrite do joelho submetidos a tratamento farmacológico, no período de setembro de 2014 a abril de 2019. Foram coletados os seguintes dados epidemiológicos: sexo; data de nascimento; peso e altura; lateralidade; gravidade da OA, pela classificação de Ahlback, modificada por Keyes e Goodfellow; presença de crepitação articular e desvio do eixo dos membros inferiores. Resultados: Não foi observada diferença entre os grupos em relação a gravidade da OA (p = 0,75), sexo (p=0,90), presença de crepitação articular (p=0,57), lateralidade (p=0,89), desvio do eixo dos membros inferiores (p=0,75), nem histórico de tratamentos prévios (p=0,46). Conclusão: O perfil da população de pacientes com osteoartrite do joelho submetidos ao tratamento conservador, em sua maioria, é do sexo feminino, com obesidade e idade superior a 60 anos. Os graus II e III de Ahlback são preponderantes.

Introdução: A infeção protésica é das complicações mais temíveis no decorrer de uma artroplastia e, dada a sua natureza multidisciplinar, a abordagem clínica permanece um desafio. Assim, é fundamental a cooperação entre especialidades médicas e cirúrgicas, destacando que um diagnóstico microbiológico o mais preciso possível é crucial para um tratamento efetivo (McNally M et al., 2021). Objetivos: Caracterizar as Infeções Osteoarticulares Associadas a Prótese (IOAP) em doentes do CHUdSA, designadamente analisar o perfil microbiológico, avaliar o perfil de suscetibilidade antimicrobiana dos microrganismos isolados e averiguar os locais anatómicos mais afetados nestas infeções. Material e Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo descritivo transversal recorrendo a uma amostra de registos de IOAP de doentes do CHUdSA, entre 2016 e 2022. Resultados: Foram incluídos 189 casos de IOAP (anca: n = 97; joelho: n = 85; ombro: n = 7). Os microrganismos mais frequentes foram Staphylococcus coagulase-negativo (SCoN) (n = 205, 46,91%), dos quais 56,59% (n = 116) correspondem a Staphylococcus epidermidis, seguido pelo Staphylococcus aureus (n = 44, 10,07%) e Streptococcus (n = 28, 6,41%). Bactérias Gram-negativo e fungos foram detetados em 21,28% (n = 93) e 1,83% (n = 8) de todos os casos, respetivamente. 41,49% dos Staphylococcus apresentaram resistência à oxacilina, dos quais 70,83% correspondem a S.epidermidis e 11,46% a S.aureus. Em relação à Pseudomonas, 52,94% apresentaram resistência à ciprofloxacina. Conclusões: A maioria dos agentes patogénicos isolados neste estudo corresponde a SCoN. Dos antibióticos testados, a oxacilina foi o que apresentou maior frequência de resistência, conferida, sobretudo, pelo S.epidermidis. O MRSE é, atualmente, uma das problemáticas centrais das IOAP, acarretando elevada incidência de infeções persistentes (Rosteius T et al., 2018). A resistência à ciprofloxacina é preocupante pelo impacto nevrálgico na indução de outras resistências, pelo que a sua redução é um dos objetivos do PPCIRA (DGS, 2021). O microambiente ósseo e a sua dinâmica fazem das IOAP um objeto de estudo complexo (McNally M et al., 2021). Futuramente, propõe-se a realização de estudos que avaliem outras variáveis como comorbilidades, material protésico e tipologia de infeção, a fim de se obter maior informação sobre o seu impacto na patogénese destas infeções.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the main cause of joint function impairment, impacting daily life activities. The goal of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients treated in an outpatient unit specialized in non-operative OA treatment in a tertiary public institution. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed evaluating 577 patients with knee OA under pharmacological treatment between September 2014 and April 2019. The following epidemiological data were collected from medical records: sex, height and weight (to calculate body mass index), laterality, OA severity according to Ahlback classification modified by Keyes and Goodfellow, presence of articular crepitus and lower limb malalignment. Results: No difference was observed between the two groups regarding OA severity (p = 0.75), distribution by gender (p=0.90), presence of joint crepitus (p=0.57), laterality of OA involvement (p=0.89), presence of axis deviation of the lower limbs (p=0.75), nor history of previous treatments (p=0.46). Conclusion: We verified that the population of patients with knee OA under non-operative treatment is in its majority female, obese and age over 60 years old. Patellofemoral knee pain is one of the most common complaints among runners. This study has as objective to verify if patellofemoral pain (PFP) is related to foot strike during running. The project was a cross-sectional, primary and observational study with quantitative analysis, targeting 131 runners, lasting from August to December 2022. The instrument was carried out through an interview, in which a questionnaire was used and 131 runners were interviewed, 79 females and 52 males. Average age was 41 years. The average weight was 64 kilos. The average running experience was 6 years, the average cadence 176 steps/min and average pace 5:50 min/km. The average running kilometers per week was 25.68 km; 69 (52.67%) runners never had PFP, 80 (61.07%) runners use the forefoot to run while 15 (11.45%) use the rearfoot. Of the 80 runners who use the forefoot, 38 (29.01%) had PFP while of the 15 runners who use the rearfoot, 9 (6.87%) had PFP. 38 (29.01%) do not do muscle strengthening to help with running. Interpretation. The present study did not statistically prove whether the type of step (rearfoot or forefoot) is directly related to PFP; 27.38% of runners responded that they did not care about the type of step in running; 29.01% do not know how to use cadence or do not care about it. RESUMO Este é um estudo transversal, comparativo e randomizado, cujo objetivo foi avaliar os efeitos da técnica de oclusão vascular parcial (Kaatsu Training) associada a exercícios de baixa carga no fortalecimento muscular de quadríceps em mulheres com dor femoropatelar. Foram avaliadas 18 mulheres com dor femoropatelar, com idade entre 18 e 35 anos, que foram alocadas em dois grupos. O grupo experimental realizou fortalecimento com redução do fluxo sanguíneo por meio de um esfigmomanômetro, associado com baixa carga (≅20% RM). Enquanto o grupo-controle realizou exercícios com a mesma carga, porém sem redução do fluxo sanguíneo. O tratamento foi realizado três vezes na semana, em um período de seis semanas, totalizando 18 sessões. Para avaliação foram utilizadas a escala numérica de avaliação da dor (NPRS) e o questionário anterior knee pain scale (AKPS); a força muscular de extensores do joelho foi avaliada através do dinamômetro digital. Os resultados mostraram que a técnica de oclusão vascular parcial provocou melhorias significativas nos valores de ganho de força do quadríceps no membro direito, 6,22kg (p=0,03), e esquerdo, 6,98kg (p=0,04), em mulheres com dor femoropatelar. Portanto, treinamento com oclusão vascular parcial pode ser uma alternativa útil para ganho de força da musculatura extensora do joelho em mulheres com dor femoropatelar que, devido à dor, tenham baixa tolerância a exercícios de alta carga para fortalecimento muscular, sendo uma técnica eficaz, segura e com boa relação de custo-benefício, não necessitando a compra de uma cadeira extensora, uma vez que utilizando um manguito é possível obter resultados significativos associados a exercícios de baixa carga.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é comparar o desempenho dos músculos flexores e extensores de joelho em jovens atletas de esportes coletivos que utilizam ou não o movimento do salto como gesto característico. Foram incluídos jovens atletas masculinos alocados em dois grupos: grupo salto (n=46, atletas de voleibol, basquetebol e handebol) e grupo sem características de salto (n=44, atletas de futsal e futebol). Para avaliação do desempenho muscular dos flexores e extensores do joelho, foi utilizado um dinamômetro isocinético na velocidade de 60o/s em modo concêntrico. As variáveis analisadas foram pico de torque normalizado pela massa corporal (PT), trabalho total (TT), potência (POT) e relação agonista/antagonista (I:Q). Para o cálculo dos déficits unilaterais, considerou-se os valores da relação I:Q inferiores a 50% e para os déficits bilaterais, assimetrias superiores a 10% do PT entre os membros. Os resultados indicaram que não houve diferenças significativas no desempenho dos músculos flexores e extensores de joelho entre os grupos, membros e sua interação. Ao comparar déficits significativos de PT e na relação I:Q, um maior número de atletas do grupo salto apresentou desequilíbrios na relação I:Q no membro dominante (58,6% versus 25%, p=0,001). Na comparação intragrupo, o grupo de atletas sem características de salto apresentou diferença entre os membros nas variáveis PT de extensores e flexores, na POT de flexores e na razão I:Q. Os atletas jovens praticantes de esportes coletivos, independente do grupo, apresentaram assimetrias musculares, e sugere-se a inserção de programas de prevenção de lesão a fim de minimizá-las.

Howler monkeys, as well as humans, may have osteoarticular disorders related to senility. A articulação femorotibial é uma articulação complexa do tipo sinovial, que, além da relação com a patela, em algumas espécies de animais pode apresentar uma estrutura radiopaca visualizada ao exame radiográfico de formato oval entre os ossos do fêmur e tíbia, em projeção mediolateral, denominado ossículo meniscal. Embora comumente relatado em diferentes espécies, inclusive no homem, pouco se sabe sobre a sua função e frequência, sendo bem constatada sua existência em espécimes de grandes felídeos. O presente estudo teve como objetivo realizar a análise radiográfica da articulação femorotibiopatelar de 40 gatos-domésticos (Felis catus, Linnaeus, 1758) em projeções mediolateral e craniocaudal no intuito de avaliar a presença ou ausência do ossículo meniscal. Nas radiografias realizadas, o ossículo esteve presente em 15% (n = 6), observando-se sua maior frequência em machos e unilateralmente, sendo o joelho esquerdo o de maior incidência da estrutura. Por ser um achado comum e relatado em diversas espécies selvagens de felídeos, a presença do ossículo meniscal deve ser levada em consideração e inserida como diagnóstico diferencial quando da realização de radiografias de gatos-domésticos e da visualização de opacidade intra-articular em projeções radiográficas mediolaterais da articulação femorotibiopatelar.

Introdução e objetivo: Verificar as alterações posturais decorrente às variações do joelho em jogadores categoria juvenil de futebol de um time profissional da cidade de Montes Claros-MG. Materiais e Métodos: Trata de uma pesquisa quantitativa, transversal e correlacional. A amostra foi constituída de 29 jogadores na faixa etária de 15 a 17 anos (15,9 ± 0,7). Para avaliação postural foi utilizado um simetrógrafo e o fio de prumo. Também foram coletados a idade, peso, estatura e IMC dos participantes através do protocolo de IMC. Os dados foram analisados por meio do Software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences – SPSS. Resultados: Perante as posições dos jogadores, a maior prevalência é de zagueiro e volante com um percentual de 24,1, já a prevalência das alterações posturais avaliadas na coluna foi constatada um predomínio de hipercifose torácica em 75,9% e no joelho foi encontrado o geno recurvatum equivalente a 41,4% dos atletas. Não houve correlação estatisticamente significativa, verificado através do teste de correlação de Pearson, entre alterações posturais da coluna vertebral com a morfologia do joelho. Conclusão: Conclui-se que não houve correlação entre alterações posturais da coluna vertebral com a morfologia do joelho, mas que algumas dessas modificações pode ser devido a posição tática do jogador abrindo um leque para uma nova pesquisa.

RESUMO As lesões dos meniscos são uma das principais causas de dor e claudicação em equinos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a morfometria dos meniscos da articulação femorotibial de equinos. Foram utilizados 48 meniscos de 12 animais de ambos os sexos, com idade entre cinco e 15 anos e com peso entre 400kg e 500kg. A medida da extensão periférica compreendeu desde a parte mais cranial à mais caudal e denominou-se circunferência externa (CE). A margem interna, com o mesmo tratamento, foi chamada de circunferência interna (CI). Os meniscos foram divididos em terços craniais, médios e caudais. A espessura foi obtida nos pontos médios de cada terço. Foi calculada a área dos meniscos em contato com os côndilos femorais. O menisco medial apresentou maior CE com média de 126,38mm, enquanto o menisco lateral apresentou média de 115,32mm. O menisco lateral mostrou maior espessura nos terços médio e caudal, com valores médios de 16,00mm e 19,85mm, respectivamente, contra 13,75mm e 14,99mm dos meniscos mediais. Os resultados deste estudo mostraram relação importante entre os dados morfométricos e os achados clínicos na tentativa de explicar a maior incidência de lesões envolvendo o menisco medial.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desempenho isocinético da musculatura flexora e extensora do joelho de jogadores de futsal sub-13 após a prática de 18 semanas do protocolo Fifa 11+. Participaram 14 jogadores de futsal do sexo masculino com idade média de 12,58±0,66 anos. A avaliação da força foi realizada através do dinamômetro isocinético (Biodex System Pro 4™), nas velocidades de 60°/s, 180°/s e 300°/s, pré e pós-intervenção. O protocolo Fifa 11+ foi aplicado antes do início de cada treino regular, duas vezes por semana, durante 18 semanas, com duração aproximada de 25 minutos. Na análise pré-intervenção foi encontrada uma diferença entre o membro dominante e o não dominante superior a 10% no pico de torque de flexores e extensores a 60°/s e 180°/s, respectivamente. Já na análise pós-intervenção não foram encontradas tais assimetrias. Houve um aumento da relação agonista/antagonista no lado dominante na velocidade de 60°/s, pós-intervenção, aproximando-se do valor ideal proposto pela literatura (de 60%). Houve, ainda, aumento do desempenho isocinético dos atletas após a intervenção. Neste sentido, conclui-se que a aplicação de 18 semanas do protocolo Fifa 11+ promoveu uma melhora do desempenho isocinético das musculaturas extensoras e flexoras de joelho, além de diminuir as assimetrias musculares entre os membros em jovens atletas de futsal.

Introdução: A osteoartrite (OA) é a deficiência física mais comum e mais duradoura dos pacientes no mundo ocidental. A estimulação a prática do exercício pode ajudar a reduzir as deficiências físicas e comorbidades, podendo melhorar a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Objetivo: Analisar se as atuais evidências justificam a utilização dos exercícios aquáticos como tratamento da osteoartrite de quadril e joelho em idosos. Métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa de artigos indexados, redigidos nas línguas portuguesa e inglesa, que analisaram como desfechos primários ou secundários: a dor, força muscular e qualidade de vida em idosos com diagnóstico de OA de joelho e quadril, sendo tratados com exercícios aquáticos. Foram incluídos artigos com o tratamento aquático, mesmo quando comparada com um grupo de fisioterapia em solo e/ou grupo controle. Resultados: Sete artigos selecionados, tendo como desfecho a melhora da dor, qualidade de vida e força muscular. Foi vista uma melhora na qualidade de vida em 3 artigos e um não viu diferença significativa. A dor foi melhorada em 4 estudos e outros 2 artigos, não viram melhora. Conclusão: O presente trabalho demonstrou que os exercícios aquáticos podem ser uma estratégia eficiente no tratamento de pacientes com osteoartrite de joelho e quadril. Verificou-se em alguns trabalhos, uma melhora no quadro álgico dos pacientes, bem como a melhora de força muscular, melhorando sua qualidade de vida. Mostra-se necessário a realização de mais estudos para corroborara eficácia dos exercícios aquáticos no tratamento da OA de quadril e joelho em idosos.

We report the case of an eight-month-old, 3.6 kg, crossbred feline, complaining of complete functional impotence of the left pelvic limb after trauma. The patient presented swelling in the knee region, pain on palpation and patellar instability. The diagnosis of patellar ligament rupture was based on the results of the orthopedic examination, together with radiographic and ultrasound examinations of the knee. The method used to repair the lesion was eight-point suture with tetrafluorocabono thread associated with simple interrupted suture for approximation of the ligament edges. Background: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects specially cartilage, meniscus, and tendons. Ligaments, muscles, subchondral bone and synovium. This pathology is a common condition limiting the quality of life of patients. Imaging modalities have also been used for evaluation the progression of the osteoarthritis, or degenerative processes induced by acute injury. In order to use more accessible imaging modalities for experimentation, this study aimed to compare radiographic, computed tomography, and ultrasound findings in the evaluation of osteoarthritis induced by the cranial cruciate ligament transection model in rabbits. Materials, Methods & Results: Twenty-four male Norfolk rabbits aged approximately 5 months old were used. All rabbits were submitted to cranial cruciate ligament transection of the left stifle and evaluated 45 days after the surgery. The radiographic findings were subchondral bone sclerosis (33.33%); joint space narrowing (66%); presence of osteophytes at medial femoral condyle (4.16%), lateral femoral condyle (4.16%), medial fabela (20.83%), lateral fabela (8.33%) and sesamoid of the popliteal muscle (4.16%). No osteophytes were seen at medial and lateral tibial condyles. The tomographic computed findings were joint space narrowing (62.5%); presence of osteophytes at medial femoral condyle (75%), lateral femoral condyle (54.16%), medial fabela (66.66%), lateral fabela (37.5%), medial tibial condyle (75%), lateral tibial condyle (20.83%) and sesamoid of the popliteal muscle (37.5%). The ultrasound findings were synovial hypertrophy (95.83%); effusion in the suprapatellar recess (75%), distal tibial recess (16.66%) and cranial joint space (75%); changes (hyperechogenic foci and heterogeneity) of the lateral meniscus (50%) and medial meniscus (25%); increased thickness of the medial condyle (54.16%) and lateral condyle (45.83%); irregularity of the medial condyle (66.66%) and lateral condyle (58.33%); alterations of the patellar tendon (12.5%) and extensor ligament (effusion and increased echogenicity) (20.83%). Discussion: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease and is common condition which limiting the quality of life of patients. Many studies performed in rabbits have evaluated the development of osteoarthritis through post-mortem macroscopic or microscopic assessments. Imaging modalities have also been used for evaluation the progression of the osteoarthritis, or degenerative processes induced by acute injury. High quality radiographs are accurate in identifying structural changes resulted from osteoarthritis, but computed tomography allows earlier identification in relation to conventional radiography. The three imaging modalities were helpful to identify the osteoarthritis, but the findings were different and compatible with each analysis method. The computed tomographic detected a higher number of osteophytes than plain radiographs. Also, osteophytes did not visualized by radiographic examination, such as medial tibial condyle and lateral tibial condyle, were identified by computed tomography. In turn, the ultrasound examination enabled identification of lesions did not seen on radiographic and computed tomography examinations. Synovial hypertrophy and joint effusion had the highest percentage. In human patients, ultrasound examination has been used to assess hypertrophy and inflammation of the synovium due to osteoarthritis. In conclusion, computerized tomography images provided more information than plain X-ray images and can be complemented by ultrasound examination to identify osteoarthritis induced by cranial cruciate ligament transection in rabbits. Radiologists should be familiar with the main techniques of knee cartilage repair and the imaging methods available for its evaluation, in order to optimize the postoperative follow-up of patients. The objective of this study was to present a series of clinical cases seen at our facility, illustrating the main techniques necessary for the repair of knee cartilage, as well as the magnetic resonance imaging techniques used in the postoperative evaluation and the relevant radiological findings. O objetivo do estudo foi investigar informações de profissionais de Educação Física sobre a prescrição de exercício físico para portadores de condromalácia patelar. Trata-se de um estudo transversal. A amostra foi composta por 50 profissionais de Educação Física, atuantes em salas de musculação de academias no município Maringá - PR. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um questionário semiestruturado pelos próprios autores, composto por questões referentes a dados sociodemográficos, conhecimento clínico sobre condromalácia patelar e sobre exercícios físicos para portadores da doença. A análise foi realizada mediante uma abordagem de estatística descritiva. Para a apresentação dos resultados, foi utilizado frequência e percentual para as variáveis categóricas e, média e desvio-padrão para as variáveis numéricas. Dos profissionais participantes, prevaleceu egressos de instituição privada do sexo feminino (64%) com idade de 26 a 30 anos (46%). A maioria dos profissionais tinha se formado há 5 anos (86%), não cursou outra graduação (86%) ou especialização (74%), tiveram algum conteúdo sobre condromalácia patelar durante a graduação (54%), foi apontada como uma patologia do joelho (82%), sendo o músculo quadríceps femoral o principal músculo envolvido na patologia (78%), e 80% dos participantes reconheceram as fibras oblíquas do músculo vasto medial têm como medializadora da patela. Grande parte dos profissionais de Educação Física que atuam nas salas de musculação das academias do município de Maringá, relataram ter tido na graduação informações sobre condromalácia patelar, possuem conhecimento básico da patologia e dos cuidados que ela exige. ABSTRACT. Information of professionals of physical education in program of physical exercises for individuals with patelar condromalácia. The aim of this study was to investigate information from Physical Education professionals about the prescription of physical exercise for patients with patellar chondromalacia. This is a cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 50 Physical Education professionals, who worked in gym rooms in Maringá - PR. Data collection was performed through a questionnaire semi-structured by the authors, consisting of questions regarding sociodemographic data, clinical knowledge about patellar chondromalacia and about physical exercises for patients with the disease. The analysis was performed using a descriptive statistics approach. For the presentation of the results, frequency and percentage were used for the categorical variables and, mean and standard deviation for the numerical variables. Of the professionals participating, there was a prevalence of female students (64%) aged 26 to 30 years (46%). Most of the professionals had graduated 5 years (86%), did not attend another undergraduate (86%) or specialization (74%), had some content on patellar chondromalacia during graduation (54%), was knee (82%), the quadriceps femoris muscle being the main muscle involved in the pathology (78%), and 80% of the participants recognized the oblique fibers of the vastus medialis muscle as mediating the patella. Most of the Physical Education professionals who work in the gymnasium rooms of the municipalities of Maringá, reported having undergraduate information about chondromalacia patelar, have basic knowledge of the pathology and the care it requires.

RESUMO Desordens no padrão motor da marcha têm sido comumente encontradas em indivíduos com síndrome de Down. O presente estudo avaliou o comportamento angular do joelho de crianças com síndrome de Down ao longo de vinte e quatro meses de acompanhamento. A amostra foi constituída por 20 crianças, de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 24 e 83 meses. A tarefa proposta foi caminhar em linha reta, na velocidade autosselecionada. O modelo biomecânico foi representado pelo posicionamento externo de marcadores retrorrefletivos nas articulações trôcanter maior do fêmur, centro articular do joelho e maléolo lateral do hemicorpo direito. Para registro e análise biomecânica utilizou-se a cinemetria bidimensional. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se análise descritiva e os testes comparativos Anova One-Way e Kruskal-Wallis. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas nos valores angulares do joelho entre diferentes faixas etárias. As crianças analisadas apresentaram valores regulares para a flexão máxima do joelho no contato inicial e a flexão máxima do joelho na fase de balanço apresentou flexão excessiva ao longo do tempo.

RESUMO O joelho é uma das articulações mais importantes para locomoção. No entanto, devido a sua complexidade, torna-se suscetível a diversos tipos de lesões, como a ruptura do ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA). Essa complicação desencadeia um processo inflamatório, que pode culminar em formação de radicais livres e, consequentemente, em estresse oxidativo (EO). O objetivo do estudo foi comparar o perfil oxidativo de pacientes com lesão do LCA, analisando duas amostras biológicas: líquido sinovial e soro. Foram analisados 11 indivíduos do gênero masculino, com ruptura total do LCA, com idade superior a 18 anos. Coletou-se amostras de sangue e líquido sinovial 15 minutos antes da artroplastia e se analisou biomarcadores de EO, catalase, flavonoides e peroxidação lipídica, isto é, substâncias reativas ao ácido tiobarbitúrico (TBARS). Os resultados apontam menor concentração de flavonoides, combinada a aumento de TBARS e de atividade de catalase no soro quando comparado com o líquido sinovial. A análise dos resultados indica que a lesão de LCA induz a quadro de EO, caracterizado por consumo de antioxidantes e elevação de dano lipídico no líquido sinovial quando comparado com o soro, indicando que análises séricas podem não ser adequadas para medir EO em partes como a articulação do joelho.

The Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a unique structure and one of the most important ligaments for knee stability, serving as primary restriction for the anterior tibial translation on the femur and secondary restriction to the knee external and internal rotation that is not sustaining weight. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the anatomy and biomechanics of anterior cruciate ligament as well as demonstrate the importance of the anterior cruciate ligament in the stability of the tibial-femoral joint. Literature review was performed using the data bases Scielo, Pubmed and Lilacs having as descriptors: "Anterior Cruciate Ligament", "LCA", "Anatomy" and "biomechanics" from the year 2008 to 2018. The LCA stability for the femorotibial joint and realization of the movement amplitude are in the ability of the anteromedial and posterolateral bands of the same in absorbing the entire load and traction of the joint when in antagonistic movements of the knee flexion and extension, favoring the stability of the tibial-femoral joint. Several limitations are detected in individuals with degeneration of knee joint. These changes are evaluated in parallel, excluding the fact that they should bring results to the same situation: the evaluation of the functionality, described in the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) by the World Health Organization (WHO). Objective: to relate the evaluated items in several instruments and tools of quantification of the functionality with the ICF in their domains and severity qualifiers. Methods: The items of the evaluation tools used were in association with the codes contained in the ICF, as well as the severity levels of the instruments with the ICF qualifiers, according to Farias Neto et al (2016) protocol. The instruments used were: Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, sit back and raise Test, Six-Minute Walk Test, Octobalance, Dorsiflexion Test and Radiographic Evaluation. Results: the highest category in these instruments was related to mobility. No instruments were found that related to social aspects and environmental aspects of the ICF. Conclusion: according to the results found, the instruments used did not include all aspects of functionality described by the ICF, mainly items related to mobility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The most common conditions that compromise the stifle joint in dogs are medial patellar luxation (MPL) and cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture. Surgical procedures are usually indicated for the treatment of these diseases. One ordinary technique for the treatment of MPL is the tibial tuberosity transposition, and one prominent technique for CCL rupture is the tibial tuberosity advancement. These techniques can be associated in one surgical procedure called tibial tuberosity transposition and advancement (TTTA) for the simultaneous treatment of both stifle diseases. The aim of this study is to report the surgical treatment of a dog with MPL and CCL rupture affecting the same joint by the TTTA technique with the use of a TTA-Maquet cage-only. Case: A 3-year-old Pitbull dog weighing 39 kg was attended at Veterinary Hospital with a history of marked lameness in the left pelvic limb. The orthopedic examination showed positive results for cranial drawer motion and tibial compression tests, and a complete CCL rupture was diagnosed. The presence of patellar luxation was evaluated by manual pressure on the patella, and grade 3 of MPL was diagnosed. Both conditions were affecting the same stifle joint. In addition, survey radiographs of the affected joint were performed. Surgical treatment was indicated by the TTTA technique. Radiographic measurements were taken to calculate the cranial tibial tuberosity advancement by the tibial plateau and the common tangent methods, and a titanium TTA-Maquet cage-only of 10.5 x 20.0 mm was selected. Linear osteotomy was performed on the tibial tuberosity with the aid of an oscillating saw, based on the Maquet hole technique. The tibial tuberosity was carefully displaced cranially and the cage was inserted at the site of osteotomy. The cage ears were molded on the tibial surface and fixed with 2.4 mm self-tapping cortical screws. At the moment of the cage attachment to the tibial tuberosity, orthopedic washers of 2 mm wide were placed between the cranial ears of the cage and the tibial tuberosity, thus promoting a lateral transposition of the tibial tuberosity. The patient was maintained in the early postoperative period with Robert Jones bandage, and with antibiotic, analgesic and antiinflammatory drugs. On the second day after the procedure partial limb support with presence of mild lameness was observed. At three months postoperatively, the animal had no claudication and MPL was corrected. The radiographic examination showed the proper process of bone repair at the osteotomy site. In the clinical evaluation performed at one year after surgery the patient was in good condition without lameness and with proper limb support and muscular gain. Discussion: The studies that evaluated the association of tibial tuberosity transposition and tibial tuberosity advancement techniques (TTTA) for the simultaneous treatment of MPL and CCL rupture demonstrated that this is a viable and effective procedure. In this report, the accomplishment of tibial osteotomy based on the Maquet hole and the advancement of the tibial tuberosity with the TTA-Maquet cage-only allowed the dynamic stabilization of the CCL deficient stifle and the early use of the affected limb. In addition, the TTTA technique proved to be effective for the correction of grade 3 of MPL in a large dog, allowing adequate recovery of the limb function without complications during a one year evaluation period. RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as características baropodométricas durante a fase de apoio da marcha em escadas e rampa de sujeitos com e sem síndrome da dor patelofemoral (SDPF). Participaram 55 indivíduos do gênero feminino, 24 com SDPF (GSDPF) e 31 clinicamente saudáveis (GC), pareados em idade, estatura e massa corporal. Foram avaliadas as variáveis pico de pressão, área de contato e tempo de contato em seis regiões plantares (antepé medial, antepé lateral, médio pé, retropé medial, retropé central e retropé lateral), por meio do sistema Pedar-X, durante a realização de quatro atividades funcionais (subir e descer escadas e rampa). A ordem de realização das avaliações foi randomizada. A intensidade da dor dos sujeitos antes e após as atividades foi avaliada pela Escala Visual Numérica (EVN). Os dados foram analisados por meio da estatística descritiva e inferencial (Testes T-independente, Wilcoxon e ANOVA 2x6), com nível de significância de p≤0,05. Não foram observadas diferenças entre os grupos em relação ao pico de pressão, área de contato e tempo de contato nas seis regiões plantares analisadas durante as quatro atividades funcionais. Houve exacerbação da dor dos sujeitos após a realização das quatro atividades funcionais (p=0,01). Sendo assim, os resultados deste estudo, nas condições experimentais utilizadas, sugerem que não existe um padrão de comportamento em relação às variáveis baropodométricas estudadas que diferencie sujeitos com e sem SDPF durante as atividades de subir e descer escadas e rampa.
