Abstract

Following the recent advances in Industry 4.0 and the upcoming Industry 5.0, the use of multiple UAVs for indoor tasks has risen, particularly in real-time remote monitoring, wireless coverage, and remote sensing. As a result, UAVs can be viewed as proactive problem solvers and can support Internet of Things (IoT) platforms by collecting and monitoring data cost-effectively and efficiently, leading to better decision-making. Moreover, sophisticated drone operations require specialised software and data processing abilities. However, the utilisation of drones has been mainly focused on outdoor environments, thus creating a literature gap regarding indoor navigation and operation. Therefore, the design and development of a method for remote planning and control of drones based on the utilisation of AR is presented in this paper. The proposed method is based on the utilisation of drones for remote monitoring. The suggested approach involves engineers designing a sequence of actions and transmitting them wirelessly to the drone, eliminating the need for human intervention. Thus, the proposed method contributes towards enabling engineers visualise the drone path with the use of Augmented Reality and provides the flexibility of adding multiple way points. AbstractThe project aimed to revolutionize home security by developing innovative, user-friendly, and highly secure smart security devices requiring minimal installation and robust data protection. Through meticulous research and critical design phases, the project successfully achieved its objectives, surpassing initial goals and setting new standards for home security.Objectives & Research Findings:The project aimed to address the critical needs of homeowners, tenants/renters, and property managers by focusing on damage-free installation, easy setup, remote monitoring, and encrypted data transmission. Analysis of burglary statistics emphasized the vulnerability of inadequate door-locking mechanisms, while exploration of sensor technologies identified viable options for detecting door status. Patent analysis provided insights into prior art and innovation trends, guiding design decisions and strategies for intellectual property protection.Critical Design Phase & Achievements:Detailed engineering analysis, testing protocols, risk assessment, and compliance considerations were conducted. Hardware components were carefully selected and tested for optimal performance, and housing units were designed for durability and practical installation. Non-invasive sensors facilitated risk-free installation, while battery-powered sensors ensured portability and longevity. Invasive sensor options were developed for permanent home installation, and user-friendly mobile/web applications provided real-time property security status with secure and encrypted data transmission.Future Recommendations & Conclusion:Future recommendations include extending battery life, enhancing data protection measures, implementing a notification system within the application, and ensuring compatibility with other smart home systems. The project demonstrates how innovative security solutions can evolve alongside technology to meet user needs effectively, setting new benchmarks for convenience, flexibility, and data protection in home security systems. Lessons learned will guide future improvements, ensuring continued innovation and user satisfaction.

Abstract

University brings many changes and challenges in students inducing a great amount of emotion fluctuation. During these times of emotion fluctuation, students can experience a drop off in academic performance and a rise in stress levels. In these times, effective emotion regulation has demonstrated to be a valuable tool correlated with improving academic performance and lowering stress. Music and light/color have been shown to be effective aspects of a smart environment for emotion regulation. Combining this knowledge along with physiological signal analysis correlating with emotions, we set out to develop a smart environment system set to aid students with emotion regulation. Abstract

IoT devices generate a massive amount of sensitive data, which is transferred tremendously to the cloud for processing and decision-making. The most significant issues that need to be solved for IoT devices are improving energy efficiency and guaranteeing data security while several devices are connected. In this paper, for edge computing, a hybrid algorithm is proposed that uses compression and encryption in the same manner to improve efficiency in terms of energy and data security in IoT devices. The authenticated encryption with associated data (AEAD) ChaCha12-Poly1305 algorithm and improved SZ 2.1 compression are used in this hybrid architecture. While sending the data to the edge, confidentiality, integrity, and authentication are maintained. Several experiments were conducted considering the driver stress detection dataset (Bernstein DJ. Lecture Notes in Computer Science including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics 4986:84–97 (2008); Lakshminarasimhan S et al. LNCS 6852(1):366–379 (2011)) and gas-sensor dataset (Ibarria L et al. Comput Graph Forum 22(3):343–348 (2003)) for monitoring the home activity to validate this approach. The performance of the proposed improved SZ 2.1 compression algorithm is compared with the five baseline algorithms including SZ 1.4, original SZ 2.1, selective compression, algorithm-based fault tolerance (ABFT), and digit rounding algorithms. The key parameters used in the experiment to measure the performance of the proposed algorithm are data reduction, compression ratio, power consumption, encryption time, total processing time, and error. Using the improved SZ 2.1 compression algorithm in conjunction with the ChaCha12-Poly1305 AEAD algorithm, the device's battery life is also enhanced by about 10% while ensuring the security of data disseminated to the Edge. The use of the proposed secure hybrid model reduces both encryption and overall processing time by 95% and 98% respectively for both datasets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Blockchain is a decentralized electronic account book that is secure, open, and impervious to manipulation, and records transactions across numerous computers. Internet of Things (IoT) deployed sensors are limited in bandwidth, processing power, and battery life. Energy efficiency is a vital factor and a decisive matter for energy-bound IoT-based networks. This paper provides an idea of the working principle of blockchain technology in IoT-enabled energy systems. It investigates the fundamentals of blockchain technology, clarifying its decentralized nature, cryptographic mechanisms, and consensus algorithms that ensure data immutability and transparency. It explores how blockchain technology can be integrated with various IoT fields for energy efficiency. The paper investigates the blockchain-based energy consumption approaches in IoT qualitatively, and quantitatively with future research directions and challenges. Abstract

In indoor environments, air quality significantly impacts human health and well-being, with carbon monoxide (CO) posing a particular hazard due to its colorless and odorless nature and potential to cause severe health issues. Integrating the Internet of Things and remote sensing technologies has revolutionized data monitoring, collection, and evaluation, especially within the context of 'smart' homes. This study leverages these technologies to enhance indoor air quality monitoring. By collecting data on key indoor atmospheric quality indicators—carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), alcohol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), particulate matter (PM1 and PM2.5), humidity, and temperature—the study aims to predict indoor carbon monoxide levels. A custom dataset was compiled from August to October, consisting of 61,710 observations recorded at one-minute intervals. The methodology employs a stacking ensemble approach, integrating multiple machine learning models to boost prediction accuracy and reliability. In the stacking ensemble, six distinct models are employed: Random Forest, Multi-Layer Perceptron, Lasso, Elastic Net, XGBoost, and Support Vector Regression. Each model is individually trained and fine-tuned using the Grid Search method to optimize parameter combinations. These optimized models are then combined in the stacking ensemble, which achieves a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.0140, a Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of 0.1185, and a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.0291. The results demonstrate that the proposed system significantly enhances the precision of CO prediction, underscoring its critical role in air quality surveillance within smart environments. Abstract

Advances in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), otherwise recognized as drones, have tremendous promise in improving the wide-ranging applications of the Internet of Things (IoT). UAV image classification using deep learning (DL) is an amalgamation to modernize data analysis, collection, and decision-making in a variety of sectors. IoT devices collect information in real time, while remote sensing captures data afar without direct contact. UAVs equipped with sensors offer high-quality images for classification tasks. DL techniques, especially the convolutional neural networks (CNNs), analyze data streams, extracting complicated features for the accurate classification of objects or environmental features. This synergy enables applications including urban planning and precision agriculture, fostering smarter disaster response, decision support systems, and efficient resource management. This paper introduces a novel Pyramid Channel-based Feature Attention Network with an Ensemble Learning-based UAV Image Classification (PCFAN-ELUAVIC) technique in an assisted remote sensing environment. The PCFAN-ELUAVIC technique begins with the contrast enhancement of the UAV images using the CLAHE technique. Following that, the feature vectors are derived by the use of the PCFAN model. Meanwhile, the hyperparameter tuning procedure is executed by the inclusion of a vortex search algorithm (VSA). For image classification, the PCFAN-ELUAVIC technique comprises an ensemble of three classifiers like long short-term memory (LSTM), graph convolutional networks (GCNs), and Hermite neural network (HNN). To exhibit the improved detection results of the PCFAN-ELUAVIC system, an extensive range of experiments are carried out. 50. Optimized Graph Sample and Aggregate‐Attention Network‐Based High Gain Meta Surface Antenna Design for IoT Application.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents a High Gain Metasurface (HGM) antenna design optimized for IoT applications. The antenna operates at a 5.8 GHz frequency and utilizes a quarter‐wavelength unit cell structure. The design employs a Graph Sample and Aggregate‐Attention Network (GSAAN) to enhance the transmission characteristics of the metasurface. To optimize the performance of GSAAN, the Giza Pyramids Construction Algorithm (GPCN) is applied to adjust the weight parameters, leading to significant improvements in radiation efficiency, bandwidth, gain, directivity, and return loss. The proposed HGM antenna is simulated in MATLAB 2023b, where it demonstrates substantial performance gains over existing methods. Specifically, the proposed design achieves 28.34% higher gain compared to the MSA‐RHCOA method, 24.47% improvement over HGM‐AD‐MATCS, 26.34% better gain than BR‐HGA‐PGM, and a 32.12% gain increase relative to MSA‐Hyb‐ADSA‐HMSOA. These enhancements make the proposed antenna design a competitive solution for high‐gain applications in wireless communication, satellite communication, and radar systems. The integration of GSAAN with GPCN optimization in the HGM antenna design enables the creation of highly directive radiation patterns, making it well‐suited for IoT applications that require high performance and reliability. The results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in achieving superior antenna performance, positioning it as a strong alternative to existing metasurface antenna designs.
