Affiliation with different religions can have different effects on practitioners' trust in state institutions and in social actors. Based on a survey of 3,740 residents in Hong Kong in 2021, we examine the relationship between religious affiliation and believers' trust in the political authorities in Beijing and Hong Kong and in civil actors in the city. We find that affiliation with traditional Chinese religions and Eastern religions has a positive and significant effect on believers' trust in the political authorities, whereas belief in Western religions does not have such an effect. Affiliation with Western religions, however, has a stronger positive and significant effect on interpersonal trust and on tolerance for unconventional behaviour. Background: Trust is an essential phenomenon of relationship between patients and healthcare professionals and can be described as an accepted vulnerability to the power of another person over something that one cares about in virtue of goodwill toward the trustor. This characterization of interpersonal trust appears to be adequate for patients suffering from chronic illness. Trust is especially important in the context of chronic cardiovascular diseases as one of the main global health problems. Research Aim: The purpose of the qualitative study was to gain a deeper understanding of how people with chronic cardiovascular disease experience and make sense of trust in healthcare professionals. Research Design: Eleven semi-structured interviews with participants analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis to explore in detail their lived experience of trust as a relational phenomenon. Participants and Research Context: Participants with chronic cardiovascular disease were purposively recruited from inpatients on the cardiology ward of the university hospital located in central Slovakia. Ethical Considerations: The study was approved by the faculty ethics committee. Participants gave their written informed consent. Findings Four Interrelated Group Experiential Themes: Sense of co-existence ; Belief in competence ; Will to help ; Ontological security with eight subthemes were identified. The findings describe the participants' experience with trust in healthcare professionals as a phenomenon of close co-existence, which is rooted in the participants' vulnerability and dependence on the goodwill and competence of health professionals to help with the consequence of (re)establishing a sense of ontological security in the situation of chronic illness. Conclusion: Findings will contribute to an in-depth understanding of trust as an existential dimension of human co-existence and an ethical requirement of healthcare practice, inspire patient empowerment interventions, support adherence to treatment, and person-centred care. Public organizations must continue to develop efficient and adaptive public services as their competitive advantage. One important strategy in this effort is to increase employee innovative work behavior. The purpose of this research is to explore the factors that influence Innovative Work Behavior of government employees, including Transformational Leadership, P-O Fit, and Interpersonal Trust with Knowledge-sharing Behavior as mediation. The research uses a quantitative approach using the SEM model and smartPLS application to analyze data from 292 functional employees at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The results of the analysis show that Transformational Leadership and P-O Fit are positively related to IWB. Meanwhile, Interpersonal Trust does not have a direct influence on IWB but has a positive impact through Knowledge-sharing Behavior as a mediator. One application of this managerial research is to increase Knowledge-sharing Behavior. This can be achieved through development strategies that involve active employee participation, expanding their access to knowledge that can trigger creativity and innovation, and building information systems with open access to all employees. Suggestions for further research are to consider organizational factors that are responsive to change (agile organization) in model analysis so that it can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence Innovative Work Behavior in the context of the dynamics of organizational change. The relevance of the research is the need to identify the features of reducing the value of interpersonal trust in a couple, which leads to a decrease in marriage rates among the Russian population.The problem of the research lies in the presence of deviations in interpersonal trust between men and women and the lack of scientifically based information about the attitude of subjects to trust as a sociocultural value, which prevents the development of effective measures to eliminate deviations in the intergender relationships of partners.The aim of the research is to identify the features of interpersonal trust in a couple as a traditional socio-cultural value.The research methods. The paper uses data from a sociological study conducted in 2024 in the Belgorod region by means of a questionnaire survey. With a quota sample, 1,155 respondents were interviewed.The Results. The study revealed that, for both men and women, the main reason for establishing trust was the presence of identity, individual similarity, common life goals, common interests, and the same rules of behavior. It was found that the majority of respondents trusted their partner much more than other people. The comparative analysis made it possible to talk about the relationships between the level of trust and the duration of the couple's existence. Thus, the lowest level of trust was typical for the young couples formed less than 6 months ago. And the highest level of trust was observed between subjects who had been together for more than 20 years. The correlation analysis led to the conclusion that the highest level of interpersonal trust was manifested in official married couples, and not in cohabitation and not in guest interaction.The Key findings. It has been concluded that following positive traditions and preserving sociocultural values in the interactions of representatives of different sexes is not presented as a cultural and historical relic, but, on the contrary, as a potential for further successful development of the institution of the family. It has been determined that interpersonal trust in a couple between is presented as a socio-cultural value, which largely determines the quality and stability of relationships and interactions between the subjects.

Innovative technology-based solutions in mental healthcare promise significant improvements in care quality and clinical outcomes. However, their successful implementation is profoundly influenced by the levels of trust patients hold toward their treatment providers, organizations, and the technology itself. This paper delves into the complexities of building and assessing patient trust within the intensive mental health care context, focusing on inpatient settings. We explore the multifaceted nature of trust, including interpersonal , institutional , and technological trust. We highlight the crucial role of therapeutic trust, which comprises both interpersonal trust between patients and providers, and institutional trust in treatment organizations. The manuscript identifies potential key barriers to trust, from sociocultural background to a patient's psychopathology. Furthermore, it examines the concept of technological trust, emphasizing the influence of digital literacy, socio-economic status, and user experience on patients' acceptance of digital health innovations. The aim of the study was to determine the difference in interpersonal trust and group affiliation among children without parental care in relation to age. The study included a convenience sample of 122 participants of both genders, who were accommodated inthe Children's SOS Village Gračanica (Dječije SOS selo Gračanica), Village of Peace Turija (Selo mira Turija), and the Home for Children without Parental Care in Tuzla (Dom za djecu bez roditeljskog staranja u Tuzli). In order to verify the set research goal, the Group Affiliation Scale and the Interpersonal Trust Scale were utilized. Univariate analysis of variance was applied to determine the difference in interpersonal trust and group affiliation among children without parental care in relation to age. The obtained data were processed using the statistical package SPSS 20 for Windows. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there is a statistically significant difference in the assessment of interpersonal trust and group affiliation among childrenwithout parental care in relation to age.

Identifying the factors that contribute to healthy child development represents a significant challenge for psychological discipline. This research sought to examine whether interpersonal trust fosters positive emotions and social skills during middle childhood. In this study participated 952 Argentine children (52.2% girls; M age = 10.98 and SD = 1.21) who completed psychometric scales. The sample was selected by availability, according to the possibility of access to school institutions to carry out the survey. Two factorial MANOVAS were performed to study the influence of interpersonal trust and distrust on five positive emotions and four aspects of social interaction, respectively. The results indicated that trust promotes joy, sympathy, gratitude, serenity, and personal satisfaction, and distrust inhibits joy but increases sympathy. Also, it was found that trust positively influences appropriate social behaviors and reduces aggressiveness, while distrust facilitates aggressiveness, arrogance, and social anxiety. In conclusion, interpersonal trust provides benefits during middle childhood, as it promotes positive emotional experience and social interaction skills; on the contrary, distrust could be considered a risk factor for children’s well-being.

This study examines the relationship between shame proneness and cooperation in Chinese adolescents, and the role of interpersonal trust and cognitive emotion regulation strategies (CERSs). A total of 783 students (355 boys and 374 girls; Mage = 13.85, SD = 1.88 years) completed questionnaires measuring shame proneness, interpersonal relationships, CERSs, cooperative tendency, and cooperative behavior. The findings indicated that adolescents' shame proneness negatively predicted cooperative behavior; however, it negatively predicted cooperative tendency only partially, and only affected the dimension of gregariousness. Adolescents' shame proneness weakened their interpersonal trust, thus reducing their gregariousness and cooperative behavior. A preference for negative CERSs strengthened this negative relationship, whereas a preference for positive CERSs weakened the relationship. These findings suggest that we should teach adolescents positive emotion regulation strategies and guide them to adopt reasonable adjustment strategies to cope with negative events and improve their emotional regulation and social adaptability. A superordinate identity that emphasizes the shared bond between people of different groups can have beneficial outcomes according to the theoretical argument of the common ingroup identity model. Unlike previous research that focuses on a single superordinate identity, we simultaneously study two superordinate identities: local identity (identification with the neighborhood) and national identity (identification with the country of residence). Our study is set in two ethnically heterogenous and low‐income neighborhoods in Sweden. Based on four waves of panel survey data, we find that both types of superordinate identities are associated with increases in interpersonal and institutional trust. The identities have distinct consequences, however. Local identity is related to local trust and national identity to national trust. These results are based on within‐individual variation. Since high trust generally has a range of positive consequences, our results point to an approach at improving communities that are often in much need of it. We observe low correlation between the two superordinate identities and high convergent and discriminant validity of the concepts. To explore the association and the underlying process between meaning in life and psychological health, a stratified random sampling was conducted on undergraduate students from five universities in Fujian Province from March to April 2022, with the Meaning in Life Questionnaire, the Self-Esteem Scale, the Interpersonal Trust Scale, and the Kessler10 Scale. The results indicated that 34.5% of Chinese undergraduates were in poor or worse mental health. There were significant positive correlations among meaning in life, self-esteem, and interpersonal trust; meaning in life, self-esteem, and interpersonal trust were all significantly and positively correlated with mental health. Self-esteem and interpersonal trust played a chain mediating role between meaning in life and mental health. Schools and families should conduct appropriate activities to help them enhance meaning in life so as to improve the level of mental health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes the relation between interpersonal trust, repression, mobilization, and demobilization in authoritarian regimes. Does interpersonal trust impact mobilization in authoritarian regimes? Does an authoritarian regime's strategies of repression and cooptation fuel distrust among movement actors and consequently lead to demobilization? Through relying on qualitative analysis in Egypt in the aftermath of the January 2011 uprising, I argue that interpersonal trust plays a significant role in the mobilization process of opposition movements. Yet, when movement members' interpersonal trust levels and mobilizational capacities are high, authoritarian regimes utilize excessive repressive strategies to fragment and demobilize them. However, repression is not the only strategy utilized by regimes to demobilize the opposition. Other strategies, mainly cooptation and movement infiltration, are used by authoritarian regimes to fuel distrust among opposition movement actors and between movement actors and the citizens at large. Objective: To explore the relationship among sibling acceptance, interpersonal trust and resilience in first-born children. Methods: A total of 715 first-born children aged 12 to 14 years were selected to evaluate sibling acceptance, interpersonal trust, psychological resilience and emotional regulation strategies with the Sibling Acceptance Scale, Children's Generalized Trust Beliefs, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, respectively. The relationship among sibling acceptance, interpersonal trust, resilience and emotional regulation strategies was analyzed. Results: Multiple linear regression analysis showed that CGTS scores of first-born children were indirectly associated with sibling acceptance scores through resilience scores (β = 0. 34, P < 0.01). The ERQ cognitive rerating scores were negatively associated with resilience scores under the influence of interpersonal trust score (β= 0. 23, P <0.001), and ERQ expression inhibition scores were positively associated with sibling acceptance score under the influence of resilience scores (β = 0.29, P<0.001). Conclusion: Sibling acceptance is indirectly associated with interpersonal trust under the mediating effect of resilience. We utilised a multiple mediation model to investigate the pathways linking dimensions of community social capital to collective participation in mental health promotion in two urban communities in Ghana. Participants (n = 384) were from Jamestown (n = 144) and Usshertown (n = 240) communities (female = 55.7%; mean age = 34.38 years, SD = 14.37 years). Structural equation modelling showed that shared concern and leadership trust directly facilitated mental health participation, whereas social cohesion had a direct negative impact on it. Interpersonal trust and critical consciousness partially mediated the effects of social cohesion and shared concern on mental health participation. Our study underscores the importance of considering not only the structural aspects of community social capital but also the interpersonal dynamics and individual perceptions that underpin collective action. Purpose: Trust is an important facilitator of successful B2B relationships. The purpose of this study is to investigate affect-based antecedents of both interpersonal and interorganizational trust, and their impact on the performance of buyer–supplier relationships. The authors ask two research questions: (1) What are affect-based dimensions of interpersonal and interorganizational trust? (2) How do interpersonal and interorganizational trust influence buyers' operational performance? Design/methodology/approach: The authors use data from an original survey of 156 buyer–supplier relationships between multinational enterprise subsidiaries and local suppliers in the Thai manufacturing sector to develop a structural model in which the authors test the hypotheses. Findings: Consistent with social exchange theory and social psychology, the empirical analysis shows that affect-based dimensions at the individual level, namely, likeability, similarity and frequent social contact, and at the organizational level, namely, supplier firm willingness to customize and institutionalization of cooperation, are important for establishing trust. In addition, interpersonal trust enhances buyers' operational performance indirectly via interorganizational trust. Practical implications: Buying and selling firms may develop organizational trust by developing processes that enhance organizational trust. Individuals with purchasing or sales responsibilities may enhance trust in their personal relationship. However, such interpersonal trust needs to be translated to the organizational level to benefit organizational performance. Originality/value: The findings contribute to the literature on affect-based antecedents and outcomes of trust. Specifically, the authors offer theory and empirical evidence regarding the contribution of salespersons toward affect-based dimensions of trust and its impact on buyer's operational performance. Employing social exchange theory, we examined when and how servant leadership leads to megaproject success. Based on the data of 273 responses from project team members and project managers, our findings indicated that servant leadership improves project success in megaprojects by enhancing interpersonal trust. Additionally, when project governance is high, the effect of servant leadership on interpersonal trust is weaker. Based on 372 micro-survey data in Jianghan Plain, the orderly Probit regression model is used to explore the influence and function mechanism of interpersonal trust on the adoption of agricultural rice green planting technology, and the transmission mechanism of policy incentive is analyzed. The results show that: Demotional trust and cognitive trust have significant positive effects on the adoption of rice green planting technology, and emotional trust is more promoting than cognitive trust; 2 there is no interaction between emotional trust and cognitive trust; 3 policy incentive has some intermediary effect in the influence of emotional trust and cognitive trust on the adoption of rice green planting technology. Therefore, in order to promote the adoption of green rice planting technology, we should not only improve the level of interpersonal trust of farmers, but also strengthen the implementation of relevant policy incentives. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has impacted society in many aspects. Alongside this progress, concerns such as privacy violation, discriminatory bias, and safety risks have also surfaced, highlighting the need for the development of ethical, responsible, and socially beneficial AI. In response, the concept of trustworthy AI has gained prominence, and several guidelines for developing trustworthy AI have been proposed. Against this background, we demonstrate the significance of psychological research in identifying factors that contribute to the formation of trust in AI. Specifically, we review research findings on interpersonal, human-automation, and human-AI trust from the perspective of a three-dimension framework (i.e., the trustor, the trustee, and their interactive context). The framework synthesizes common factors related to trust formation and maintenance across different trust types. These factors point out the foundational requirements for building trustworthy AI and provide pivotal guidance for its development that also involves communication, education, and training for users. This article, titled "Increasing interpersonal trust through divergent thinking," explores the relationship between creativity and interpersonal trust. The study found that engaging in divergent thinking, which involves generating multiple solutions to a problem, increased interpersonal trust. Participants who engaged in divergent thinking transferred more money to trustees in a trust game, indicating higher levels of trust. The purpose of the study is to examine young children's (4- to 8-year-old) selective trust decisions in two different data sets; one was for interpersonal trust decision and the other was for epistemic trust decision. Children encountered with two assistants one provided them testimony about who trustworthy they are and the other assistant displayed trustworthy action while child was witnessing. Children in interpersonal trust study responded to three interpersonal trust questions. Children in epistemic trust study responded three ask questions. Findings showed that for interpersonal and epistemic trust decision young children did not differentiate between testimony and action. This tendency did not change with age and children's socio-economic status. The study pointed that young children in Şanlıurfa did not consider action as a more valuable evidence for trustworthiness compared to testimony. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Children's testimonial learning often occurs in epistemic collaborations with others. In this paper, we will discuss ways in which cultural learning emerges in social and interpersonal contexts, and is intrinsically supported and guided by children's collaborative capacities. Much work in cultural learning has focused on children's examination of speaker and model characteristics, but more recent research has investigated the interactive aspects of testimonial exchanges. We will review evidence that children (1) participate in the interpersonal commitments that are shared in testimonial transactions by way of direct address and epistemic buck passing, (2) participate in social groups that affect their selective learning in nuanced ways, and (3) may detect epistemic harms by listeners who refuse to believe sincere and accurate speakers. Implications for conceptualizing children's testimonial learning as an interactive mechanism of collaboration will be discussed. Children's testimonial learning often occurs in epistemic collaborations with others, which enable distinct forms of trust to operate that grant them access to information about the world. By examining children's conversational practices, their group‐based biases and assumptions, and their sensitivity to epistemic harms, we suggest that children evaluate speakers in terms of their epistemic credentials and social characteristics while at the same time holding them interpersonally responsible for their claims. The objective of the study is to explore the influence of self-esteem on the happiness levels of college students and the mediating roles of social avoidance and loneliness. 1021 college students between 18 and 24 years of age completed the Self-esteem Scale, General Well-being Scale, Social Avoidance and Distress Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale and Interpersonal Trust Scale.And descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis, structural equation model analysis were conducted. The result turns out that Self-esteem negatively predicted the happiness levels of college students. Self-esteem indirectly predicted happiness through three paths: mediating the roles of social avoidance, mediating the roles of loneliness and the chain-mediated roles of social avoidance and loneliness in college students.Interpersonal Trust moderated the relationship between loneliness and happiness.The higher the self-esteem levels of the college students, the less happiness they experienced. Although fruitful achievements have been explored about job burnout, little is known about burnout in the field of social interaction among college students. To address this limitation, this study defined the concept of Social Burnout and developed a measurement tool for it. The study adopted the method of combining qualitative research with quantitative research. After the qualitative study, we gathered examples of social burnout and finished item writing. Using convenient sampling and theoretical sampling methods, six different samples were recruited for reliability and validity testing. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed the scale’s two-factor structure: emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Cronbach’s alpha measured the internal consistency of the social burnout scale (SBS), which was excellent (Cronbach’s alpha of emotional exhaustion  =  0.94; depersonalization  =  0.82; the overall  =  0.92). Susequently, the method of calculating AVE and CR evaluated the scale’s convergent and discriminant validity, which were relatively good (AVE of emotional exhaustion  =  0.60, depersonalization  =  0.59; CR of emotional exhaustion  =  0.93, depersonalization  =  0.81). Then, regression analysis verified the nomological network and criterion-related validity (r = −0.30, p <  0.01; r  = −0.39, p <  0.01; β = −0.25, p <  0.01). The SBS was shown to be a reliable and appropriate measure for assessing students’ social burnout. Furthermore, the SBS is recommended for use in academic research and by healthcare professionals to measure students’ social distress. PURPOSE: The COVID-19 pandemic and the digital transformation have hastened the demand for enterprises to be more flexible and adaptive in a fast-changing environment, making agile leadership a prominent business trend. Agile leadership improves innovation efficiency, employee performance, and team effectiveness. However, there is limited research on agile leadership's effects on organizational outcomes. Thus, this study provides a meta-analytic review of the impact of agile leadership on organizational outcomes that cover various common dimensions like operational, employee, customer, financial, and social environments. METHODOLOGY: The study has two phases: the first phase performs bibliometric literature analysis, and the second phase performs meta-analysis. In the bibliometric literature analysis, 74 articles that were published between 2004 and 2023 were identified from Scopus and Google Scholar, and their type of publication, year of publication, countries involved in agile leadership research, keywords involved, and their association are examined. For the meta-analysis, 24 articles that performed empirical research were chosen from which the various independent and dependent variables studies, along with their standard regression coefficients (β) and correlation coefficients (γ) that represent the relationship between agile leadership or agile leaders and that of other factors, were extracted and examined. FINDINGS: The study found that there was a significant rise in publications on agile leadership after 2020, and Turkey, the United States, and Indonesia were involved more than other countries. Moreover, agile leadership is studied more in terms of operational outcomes and employee outcomes. The results of the meta-analysis indicate that agile leadership has a strong relationship with factors like interpersonal trust (β=0.93), organizational performance (β=0.90), organizational effectiveness (β=0.89), individual career success (β=0.89) and innovation management (β=0.81). Thus, it is clear that agile leadership has a stronger impact on operational outcomes than employee outcomes. Agile leadership characteristics such as digital innovation, trust, competency, result orientation, and wisdom are significant for organizational growth, team collaboration, team effectiveness, and organizational innovation. IMPLICATIONS: Identifying agile leadership concepts helps assess the progress of empirical research, improve leadership theories and models, and identify potential growth opportunities. The success of agile leadership depends on factors like a company's culture, industry, and size, and this can be studied further. Furthermore, organizations may need to adjust their strategies on customer service, financial management, and investment so that they better reflect the values of agile leadership. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: This study classifies numerous different research models that shed light on the efficiency of agile leadership based on a comprehensive literature review that serves as the basis for this study. Purpose: Knowledge sharing has gained the attention and focus of academicians, researchers and scholars from all around the world for almost two decades; since its role and contribution toward organizational success is globally recognized. However, despite its growing significance and recognition, business managers and practitioners fail to earn the benefits of the same due to not being properly aware of the organizational factors that can contribute toward the creation and implementation of efficient knowledge management systems. Design/Methodology/Approach: Qualitative content analysis method was used in this study to analyze the editorial policy of these three newspapers. Findings: This research paper can help the searchers, academicians and practitioners, who want to understand, conduct research on, or implement the organizational factors that enable efficient and well-organized knowledge-sharing systems. PURPOSE: The COVID-19 pandemic and the digital transformation have hastened the demand for enterprises to be more flexible and adaptive in a fast-changing environment, making agile leadership a prominent business trend. Agile leadership improves innovation efficiency, employee performance, and team effectiveness. However, there is limited research on agile leadership’s effects on organizational outcomes. Thus, this study provides a meta-analytic review of the impact of agile leadership on organizational outcomes that cover various common dimensions like operational, employee, customer, financial, and social environments. METHODOLOGY: The study has two phases: the first phase performs bibliometric literature analysis, and the second phase performs meta-analysis. In the bibliometric literature analysis, 74 articles that were published between 2004 and 2023 were identified from Scopus and Google Scholar, and their type of publication, year of publication, countries involved in agile leadership research, keywords involved, and their association are examined. For the meta-analysis, 24 articles that performed empirical research were chosen from which the various independent and dependent variables studies, along with their standard regression coefficients (𝛽) and correlation coefficients (𝛾) that represent the relationship between agile leadership or agile leaders and that of other factors, were extracted and examined. FINDINGS: The study found that there was a significant rise in publications on agile leadership after 2020, and Turkey, the United States, and Indonesia were involved more than other countries. Moreover, agile leadership is studied more in terms of operational outcomes and employee outcomes. The results of the meta-analysis indicate that agile leadership has a strong relationship with factors like interpersonal trust (𝛽=0.93), organizational performance (𝛽=0.90), organizational effectiveness (𝛽=0.89), individual career success (𝛽=0.89) and innovation management (𝛽=0.81). Thus, it is clear that agile leadership has a stronger impact on operational outcomes than employee outcomes. Agile leadership characteristics such as digital innovation, trust, competency, result orientation, and wisdom are significant for organizational growth, team collaboration, team effectiveness, and organizational innovation. IMPLICATIONS: Identifying agile leadership concepts helps assess the progress of empirical research, improve leadership theories and models, and identify potential growth opportunities. The success of agile leadership depends on factors like a company’s culture, industry, and size, and this can be studied further. Furthermore, organizations may need to adjust their strategies on customer service, financial management, and investment so that they better reflect the values of agile leadership. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: This study classifies numerous different research models that shed light on the efficiency of agile leadership based on a comprehensive literature review that serves as the basis for this study. In addition, this study identifies potential problem areas that need to be fixed, and as a result, it makes a contribution to the research on agile leadership.

Interpersonal trust is an essential ingredient of many social relationships but how stable is it actually, and how is it controlled? There is evidence that the degree of trust into others might be rather volatile and can be affected by manipulations like drawing attention to personal interdependence or independence. Here we investigated whether the degree of interpersonal trust can be biased by inducing either a more integrative or a more focused/exclusive cognitive control mode by means of a creativity task requiring divergent or convergent thinking, respectively. Participants then performed the trust game, which provides an index of interpersonal trust by assessing the money units one participant (the trustor) transfers to another (the trustee). As expected, trustors transferred significantly more money to trustees after engaging in divergent thinking as compared to convergent thinking.This observation provides support for the idea that interpersonal trust is controlled by domain-general (i.e., not socially dedicated) cognitive states. AbstractIn this work, an integrative theoretical structure for the propensity to trust (PTT) is derived from literature. In an online study (N = 669), the validity of the structure was assessed and compared in two domains: propensity to trust in humans (PTT-H) and propensity to trust in automated technology (PTT-A). Based on this, an economic scale to measure PTT-A was derived and its psychometric quality was explored based on the first and an additional second study. The observed correlational pattern to basic personality traits supports the convergent validity of PTT-A. Moreover, discriminative predictive validity of PTT-A over PTT-H was supported by its higher relationships to technology-related outcomes. Additionally, incremental validity of PTT-A over basic personality traits was supported. Finally, the internal validity of the scale was replicated in an independent sample and re-test reliability was established. Reciprocal self‐disclosure has reportedly been associated with increased interpersonal trust. However, existing research mainly focuses on online disclosure between acquaintances and overlooks the types of reciprocal disclosure, especially in the initial interactions between strangers communicating online. This study aimed to investigate how three types of reciprocal self‐disclosure (turn‐taking reciprocity, extended reciprocity and non‐reciprocity) contribute to trust and the mechanism of positive interpersonal liking, and whether any effect was instant and stable or increased across two interactions during computer‐mediated communication (CMC). Participants were assigned to one of the three reciprocal disclosure conditions and engaged in online interactions. Self‐reported and behavioural results demonstrated higher levels of interpersonal trust and liking in the second interaction phase than in the first across all conditions. The turn‐taking reciprocity condition showed higher interpersonal trust than did the extended condition, and higher interpersonal liking than did the extended and non‐reciprocity conditions; this effect was apparent in both interactions. These findings help us understand the relationship between online self‐disclosure and interpersonal trust, suggesting that certain patterns of communication with strangers (e.g., turn‐taking reciprocity) may foster more positive social outcomes during CMC over time, while demonstrating the importance of immediacy in synchronous conversations. Refugees arriving in Western countries spend long periods, often over a year, as asylum seekers. We examine how the period affects asylum seekers' institutional and interpersonal trust. Drawing on theories of need gratification, we suggest that several needs are unfulfilled during this period of existential limbo. Still, some aspects in the new society are positive, especially in Sweden, the host country of this study. To study these combined forces, we rely on repeated interviews with the same asylum seekers as well as other quantitative approaches. Results show that both types of trust are reduced over time, suggesting that the negative aspects take precedence. We also present results based on a matching analysis, which indicate that interpersonal trust at the beginning of the asylum-seeking process is higher compared to similar refugees in Jordan and Lebanon. Previous research suggests that economic inequality has caused a wide range of negative societal impacts. However, little is known about how economic inequality influences prosocial behaviour as a socioecological environment determinant. In five studies (N = 62,342), we examined whether economic inequality reduces prosocial behaviour by decreasing interpersonal trust and the moderation role of interpersonal targets. Studies 1, 2a, and 2b showed that interpersonal trust mediated the negative relationship between perceived economic inequality and prosocial behaviour. In Study 3, we used data from the World Values Survey to explore the relation between inequality and trust and found that it was moderated by the closeness of trust targets. In Study 4, we demonstrated that economic inequality only reduced trust and prosocial behaviour towards strangers, but not among friends and family. Taken together, the current research shed light on how economic inequality undermines trust and negatively impacts prosocial behaviour among different targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUMMARY: A consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic is that workers increasingly want work that aligns with their values. Given that Gen Z, the next generation of accountants, is characterized by a focus on ESG issues, we use an experiment to test whether emphasizing sustainability assurance roles attracts individuals to the profession and which types of individuals are most attracted. We find individuals are more interested in becoming accountants when sustainability assurance positions are emphasized, relative to financial positions. We further find individuals with a prosocial (but not proself) social value orientation drive this result due to the greater intrinsic appeal of sustainability jobs to these individuals. We also find some evidence that prosocial individuals exhibit lower professional skepticism than proself individuals, highlighting a potential negative consequence of attracting prosocial individuals to the profession. When interacting with strangers, people tend to draw inferences pertaining to the strangers' personality traits based on their facial information, which leads to differential feelings of trust for the strangers. This study explored whether the weightage which individuals' provide to facial warmth and competence changes with social situations when they have to make decisions based on trust. In experiment 1, a donation context was set, and the participants tended to select a stranger volunteer with feminine face as the recipient of a higher donation amount. In experiment 2, an investment context was set, and while interacting with male trustees, the participants tended to select masculine male faces as recipients of a higher investment amount. However, a contradictory result was obtained when the participants interacted with the female trustees. Participants' perceptions of the trustworthiness of the four kinds of faces (feminine or masculine male faces, feminine or masculine female faces) predicted the corresponding donation and investment amounts. The results indicated that feminine faces (both male and female) were preferred as recipients of donation, and the warmth in the faces was given more weightage in the donation context (warmth perception). In the investment context (competence perception), participants tended to choose masculine faces as recipients of investment amount among the male faces but showed a preference for feminine faces among female faces. The research provides empirical support for a better understanding of the mechanisms behind highly flexible and complex social interactions among humans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Organizations make large investments to secure data and networks, but information security breaches as a result of insiders continue to rise. One possible contributor to this is poor information security culture. This study investigated the key factors that contribute to effective information security culture in government organizations in Bhutan and how information security culture influences employee security behavior. A research model was developed for the study based on an analysis of the information security literature. Data was collected using an online survey of 181 government employees. Senior management support, information security policy, training and awareness campaigns, interpersonal trust, and job- versus employee-oriented organizational culture were all found to influence information security culture, and information security culture contributed to information security behavior. The study extends understanding of the roles of trust and different dimensions of organizational culture in improving information security culture and behavior. Construction enterprises are widely acknowledged as pivotal drivers of economic development in emerging nations due to their integral role in infrastructure advancement. Within this sector, the cornerstone of construction firms lies in their workforce, whose diligent endeavours contribute substantially to the successful execution of projects, notwithstanding their diverse skill levels. Effective alignment of employees with overarching project objectives hinges significantly upon human resource (HR) management practices and tailored organizational strategies. In pursuit of empirically assessing this premise, this research endeavour sought to scrutinize the influence of servant leadership exhibited by HR managers on project outcomes, with a moderated mediation model involving project governance, ethical work climate, and interpersonal trust. Situated within the socio-economic context of Bahrain, the study utilized a quantitative survey methodology to gauge the perceptions of employees within construction enterprises. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) served as the analytical framework to ascertain the statistical significance of formulated hypotheses, which were underpinned by the tenets of social exchange theory. The findings of the data analysis substantiated the hypothesized relationships, indicating a pronounced emphasis within Bahrain's construction industry on nurturing a workforce-centric ethos. This involves cultivating an ethical work climate characterized by robust interpersonal trust, underpinned by the adoption of positive servant leadership practices and effective project governance mechanisms, ultimately culminating in enhanced project success. Background: Social Axioms are generalized beliefs and broad assumptions about the world, guiding behaviors across various social situations. Social Axioms are usually assessed by Social Axioms Survey II (SAS II). Nevertheless, the length of the scale may limit its usefulness in studies with strict time constraint. The present study aimed at developing a shorter version. Methods: A survey was conducted among 455 college students. First, we performed psychometric evaluation on the full item version of SAS II to identify items with superior psychometric properties for a brief version of SAS II. Second, we validated the psychometric properties of the brief version of SAS II. Results: A 20-item version of SAS II (SAS II-20) was developed, and it demonstrated adequate reliability and validity. The correlations between SAS II-20 and personality variables, cognitive flexibility, interpersonal trust, locus of control, and paranormal beliefs were consistent with past studies. Conclusions: SAS II-20 is psychometrically acceptable and provides a time-efficient measurement tool for investigating social beliefs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rumours circulated quickly online and offline during the COVID‐19 pandemic, but empirical research on the subject is limited. Combining qualitative (Study 1, content analysis was conducted on 2344 actual rumours extracted from a rumour‐refuting website) and quantitative methods (Study 2, a three‐wave study with 10‐day intervals), the current study suggests that (1) rumours during the pandemic can be categorised into three types, that is, wish, dread, and aggression rumours, and (2) exposure to different types of rumours is associated with coping consequences, subjective well‐being (comprising positive affect, negative affect, and life satisfaction), and interpersonal trust in different ways. Generally, wish rumours seem benign, while dread and aggression rumours are malicious. Specifically, wish rumours are believed to assist coping and to be positively associated with positive affect and interpersonal trust. In contrast, dread rumours are believed not to assist coping and to be marginally significantly and positively associated with negative affect and negatively associated with interpersonal trust. Meanwhile, aggression rumours are believed not to assist coping and are marginally significantly and positively associated with negative affect. All other relationships are nonsignificant. Prior research has identified trust trait, trust expectation, trust risk and trust behavior as integral components of interpersonal trust. However, there still lack an in-depth exploration of the structural relationships among these integral components—how these integral components collectively constitute interpersonal trust. The current study innovatively proposed that interpersonal trust is anchored by individual trust trait, mediated by the dynamic equilibrium between trust risk and trust expectation, and culminates in trust behavior as the outcome. Interpersonal trust results from the synergistic interplay of individual and environmental factors. We called such structural relationships as the pyramid structure model of interpersonal trust, and proved its rationality by empirical evidence.

Abstract Background Even though trust is placed at the central point in ensuring proper functioning of the health systems, studies remain scant on how it affects both the implementation and uptake of COVID-19 response measures in low- and middle-income countries such as Tanzania. This study, therefore, explored the role of trust in the implementation and uptake of recommended COVID-19 response measures including vaccines from the perspective of health professionals in Tanzania. Methods This cross-sectional qualitative study was implemented in four of Tanzania’s thirty-one regions. Qualitative data was collected through 26 in-depth interviews held with regional and district disease outbreak response teams, district cold chain co-ordinators and health facility in-charges. In addition, five focus group discussions and seven group interviews were conducted with healthcare workers from the lower-level health facilities. Thematic analysis was conducted and applied the trust constructs. Results Interpersonal trust and health system trust emerged as two major themes in the study. Interpersonal trust was reported to stem from lack of transparency that instigated fear, worries, and confusion regarding the implementation and uptake of the recommended response measures. The distrust was mainly between health professionals in health facilities and those assigned to isolation centres as well as between patients and community members. On the other hand, the health system trust was shaped by mixed feelings regarding COVID-19 vaccine national decisions, and conflicting messages from national officials, politicians and religious leaders on COVID-19 responses, safety, and effectiveness of the vaccines. Questions surrounding the short duration of clinical trials, indeterminate post-vaccination protection duration, impotence-linked beliefs, freemasonry notion and unclear vaccinated cards information are other reported contributory factors to mistrust in the health system. However, after a comprehensive health education and experience in COVID-19 vaccination administration most professionals affirmed the effectiveness of the vaccines in limiting infections and its severe consequences. Conclusion Participants indicated limited trust at both interpersonal and health system levels aggravated by lack of transparency, unclear and conflicting messages on COVID-19 infections and response measures. Enforced transparency on pandemics alongside standardised messages from the reliable sources is crucial in enhancing trust in implementation and uptake of the recommended response measures.

To explore the association and the underlying process between meaning in life and psychological health, a stratified random sampling was conducted on undergraduate students from five universities in Fujian Province from March to April 2022, with the Meaning in Life Questionnaire, the Self-Esteem Scale, the Interpersonal Trust Scale, and the Kessler10 Scale. The results indicated that 34.5% of Chinese undergraduates were in poor or worse mental health. There were significant positive correlations among meaning in life, self-esteem, and interpersonal trust; meaning in life, self-esteem, and interpersonal trust were all significantly and positively correlated with mental health. Self-esteem and interpersonal trust played a chain mediating role between meaning in life and mental health. Schools and families should conduct appropriate activities to help them enhance meaning in life so as to improve the level of mental health.
