While important for athletic development and well-being in youth sport, knowledge remains limited around the processes underpinning triadic relationships between parents, athletes, and coaches. This study aimed to examine the relational processes that drive the functioning of parent–athlete–coach triads across three developmental stages of youth tennis. Using a collective-case-study design, 10 players, 10 coaches, and 9 mothers completed preinterview tasks and semistructured interviews and provided conversational history. Reflexive thematic analysis led to the generation of two higher order themes: foundations of relationship quality and factors enabling team effectiveness. Findings highlighted how specific relationship qualities (i.e., commitment, trust, respect, and parent–coach proximity) and team effectiveness constructs (i.e., shared goals, collaborative and adjusted roles, support, and role-specific communication) served to facilitate the tennis experience for triads. Scholars are encouraged to consider integrating small-group principles (e.g., team building) into tailored support programs that address the psychosocial needs of the triad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social interactions unfold within networks of relationships. How do beliefs about others social ties shape-and how are they shaped by-expectations about how others will behave? Here, participants joined a fictive online game-playing community and interacted with its purported members, who varied in terms of their trustworthiness and apparent relationships with one another. Participants were less trusting of partners with untrustworthy friends, even after they consistently showed themselves to be trustworthy, and were less willing to engage with them in the future. To test whether people not only expect friends to behave similarly but also expect those who behave similarly to be friends, an incidental memory test was given. Participants were exceptionally likely to falsely remember similarly behaving partners as friends. Thus, people expect friendship to predict similar behavior and vice versa. These results suggest that knowledge of social networks and others behavioral tendencies reciprocally interact to shape social thought and behavior.

We systematically reviewed quantitative studies of phenomena at the nexus of Human Resource Management (HRM) and interpersonal relationships. We report on the overall prevalence and trends in research methods relating to construct, internal, external, and statistical conclusion validity. The review draws attention to areas of emphasis (positive relationships, instrumental ties, nonnetwork structures, employee respondents, samples drawn from Asia, HR perceptions). We also identify a growing emphasis on particularly desirable approaches to examining relational HRM (a more balanced consideration of positive and negative relationships, studies that examine more than one HR practice, multilevel analyses). Together, the identified areas of emphasis, gaps, and associated trends, inform our elucidation of research directions around 15 specific work relationships—along with more general directions for better accounting for dynamic, multilevel, measurement, and analytical considerations central to HRM and interpersonal relationships. Moral norms balance the needs of the group versus individuals, and societies across the globe vary in terms of the norms they prioritize. Extant research indicates that people from Western cultures consistently choose to protect (vs. punish) close others who commit crimes. Might this differ in cultural contexts that prioritize the self less? Prior research presents two compelling alternatives. On the one hand, collectivists may feel more intertwined with and tied to those close to them, thus protecting close others more. On the other hand, they may prioritize society over individuals and thus protect close others less. Four studies (N = 2,688) performed in the United States and Japan provide self-report, narrative, and experimental evidence supporting the latter hypothesis. These findings highlight how personal relationships and culture dynamically interact to shape how we think about important moral decisions. Public Significance Statement: Modern civilization is built on rules about how to behave. Yet, in Western cultures, when these rules are violated by people we know and love, people consistently dismiss them. Here, we demonstrate that this propensity to protect close others is powerfully influenced by culture. In four studies, we provide evidence (N = 2,688) that people from Japan—a culture in which individual interests are prioritized less than in the United States—are less likely to protect close others who transgress out of concern for the impact on society. We also demonstrate that this cultural difference disappears when people from Japan are themselves the victims, a scenario in which societal interests are muted and personal interests are focal. This article reports on the validation of the Korean version of the Anger Discomfort Scale (ADS-K) in samples comprising college students and community-based adults living in South Korea (n = 765). The Anger Discomfort Scale (ADS) is a 15-item scale designed to assess levels of discomfort associated with both the experience and expression of anger in interpersonal contexts. For psychometric property testing, survey data were analyzed with advanced multivariate methods, focusing on aspects of validity and reliability. The properties of the total scores are examined by descriptive statistics. The results of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis identified the structure of the ADS-K as a well-defined bi-factor model. Correlational analyses indicated that anger discomfort was positively associated with anger suppression, anger expression, trait anxiety, and constructs related to anxiety in interpersonal relationships (e.g., fear of evaluation by others and expectations of negative interpersonal results). Materialism, or beliefs and values that link wealth and consumption to success and happiness, negatively affects interpersonal relationships. Prior work has typically explained these effects through the allocation of personal resources (such as time or money) within relationships, thus using a behavioural route. However, this research proposes an alternative cognitive pathway to understand the adverse effects of materialism on interpersonal relationships. Three studies (N = 1389) employing correlational and experimental methodologies showed that materialism leads to heightened expectations and standards for a significant other, which are associated with poorer interpersonal outcomes. Specifically, materialism heightens the ideal standards that one has for a close other around achievement (e.g., ambition) and positive image (e.g., attractiveness), which are linked to higher conflict and lower relational satisfaction. Therefore, this work contributes to deepening our understanding of how consumer‐oriented values shape social perceptions and negatively affect interpersonal dynamics. Practical applications include informing relationship counselling practices, developing educational interventions, and guiding marketers and media content producers towards messages that do not increase individual's ideals and standards for themselves and others. Further research should explore other factors that might alter this mediation (e.g., mindfulness) and examine the short‐ and long‐term effects through longitudinal and interventional‐based research. FTD caregiving research describes patient behavioral symptoms such as apathy and disinhibition as primary sources of poor caregiver psychological health; however, little attention has been paid to other common patient behaviors, such as loss of empathy. To better understand the relationship between empathy loss and FTD caregiver outcomes, this integrative review aimed to address the question: How does the loss of empathy in a person living with FTD (PLwFTD) impact the caregiver?Quantitative and qualitative articles were found in PubMed, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Scopus and were assessed for quality using the Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool (CCAT). Through constant comparative analysis, articles were assessed to abstract common themes in the literature.From 333 citations, 8 qualitative and 8 quantitative studies published between 2010 and 2022 were included. Three main themes were uncovered: 1) caregiver emotional reactions to the PLwFTD; 2) caregiver psychological distress; 3) changes in the relationship.This review emphasizes the detrimental impact of empathy loss on FTD caregivers. Introduction: Experiential social factors of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) have received little empirical attention. This study examined the mediating role of social interaction anxiety on the relationship between experiential qualities of social interaction and GAD status. Method: College student participants (N = 153) engaged in a one-on-one in-vivo social interaction with a novel adult conversational partner (i.e., confederate interviewer). Participants were asked to recount an emotional event in their lives in as much detail as possible. Subsequently, participants answered self-report questions measuring comfort, reluctance, rapport, and mood disturbance experienced while interacting with the interviewer. Results: Participants with GAD symptoms reported greater symptoms of social anxiety and lower levels of comfort while interacting with the interviewer. Participants with GAD symptoms further exhibited greater mood disturbance immediately following this social interaction. Social interaction anxiety mediated the relations between GAD status predicting mood disturbance and level of comfort experienced while interacting with an interviewer. Discussion: More specifically, GAD status was associated with greater symptoms of social interaction anxiety, which in turn, were associated with greater mood disturbance and lower levels of comfort experienced in a social interaction. Incremental advancements in technology present researchers with opportunities to examine and predict human behavior before the integration of technology into daily life. Previous studies have identified trends in both the design and reception of current social robotic technologies, including gender biases and social "othering", which may affect how humans interact with more advanced robotic technologies in the future. The aim of the current study was to explore whether preconceived beliefs about gender inequality, interest in casual sex, and social hierarchies would relate individuals' interest in engaging in platonic friendships ("robofriendship") or sexual relationships ("robosexuality") with hypothetical human-like robots. Two-hundred and twelve participants completed an online survey measuring gender, ambivalent sexism, social dominance orientation, and sociosexual orientation in relation to individuals' interest in both robofriendship and robosexuality. It was found that hostile sexism positively predicted interest in robosexuality, particularly for men (β =.16, b =.27, 95% CI [.03,.30], t (209) = 2.364, p =.019). Conversely, hostile sexism negatively predicted robofriendship, and significant interactions effects were found in that at lower levels of SDO, women maintained greater interest in robofriendship than men (β =.26, b =.54, 95% CI [.09,.99], t(208) = −2.235, p =.02). The current study provides preliminary evidence to suggest that preconceived beliefs about social hierarchy and gender inequality may impact romantic and platonic interactions between humans and robots. Shared reality—the experience of sharing common inner states (e.g. feelings, beliefs) with other people about a given topic or target—is a ubiquitous human experience. With research on the construct of shared reality burgeoning in various domains, we examined a fundamental, yet understudied topic: the role of experiencing shared reality about a target in real‐time conversations and real‐world contexts. Across five studies conducted in various contexts (total N = 973), we developed a measure of target‐specific shared reality (SR‐T) and examined its role in interpersonal interactions and protective health behaviours. In our initial Studies (1a‐2), we developed a measure of SR‐T and establish psychometric, construct and criterion validity. In Study 3, we established predictive validity by investigating the link between SR‐T and important interpersonal interaction constructs (e.g. interpersonal rapport and epistemic trust in the partner). In Study 4 (preregistered), SR‐T moderated the effect of close others’ attitudes on vaccination and precautionary behaviours against COVID‐19 during the Omicron‐variant peak (2022). Our findings suggest that the experience of SR‐T, assessed with a valid measure, is linked to important dimensions of interpersonal interactions and health decisions in the real world. The terror management health model proposes that COVID-19's association with death should increase a desire for closeness, which could undermine social distancing intentions. Alternatively, social distancing intentions may increase if it has become culturally valued. The present research assessed these claims. We conducted three pre-registered online experiments (N = 409) where we manipulated COVID-19 thoughts, and examined either proximal (i.e. immediate) or distal (i.e. delayed) reactions. Death-thought accessibility, desire for closeness, social distancing intentions, and measures concerning the perceived cultural value of social distancing. COVID-19 thoughts increased death-thought accessibility (Study 1). COVID-19-induced death thoughts increased a distal desire for closeness, particularly in securely attached individuals, but also increased the perceived value of, and intentions to engage in, social distancing (Studies 2 and 3). Our findings demonstrate how proximal strategies may progress to distal strategies when they become embedded within cultural worldviews. Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is most prevalent during adolescence. It is therefore crucial to further explore factors influencing NSSI. Previous studies had examined the role of bullying victimization or interpersonal relationships in NSSI and had also emphasized the impact of using emotion regulation strategies on NSSI. However, there is a need to further investigate the longitudinal mechanisms between bullying victimization, interpersonal relationships, and NSSI while considering the impact of using different emotion regulation strategies on the mechanisms. This study explored whether interpersonal relationships play a longitudinal mediating role between bullying victimization and NSSI among Chinese adolescents, and compared the moderating effects of different emotion regulation strategies (cognitive reappraisal versus expressive suppression). The objective of this study was to concurrently investigate the long-term factors influencing NSSI in Chinese adolescents from both environmental and emotion regulation perspectives. The participants were 341 Chinese adolescents who engaged in a two-stage survey with a six-month gap. The results indicated that bullying victimization had an indirect effect on adolescent NSSI through the longitudinal mediation of interpersonal relationships. Cognitive reappraisal had a long-term moderating effect on this indirect effect, while expressive suppression did not have a moderating effect. These findings suggest a developmental perspective and comprehensive consideration of the causes of adolescents' NSSI, along with the use of appropriate emotion regulation strategies for intervention. While inadequate relationships in the workplace pose a significant psychosocial risk, quality interpersonal relationships can contribute to positive effects and prevent negative outcomes. Erskine's model of relational needs, not yet studied in the work environment, can provide a more detailed understanding of the needs employees experience in their workplace relationships. We adapted the general Relational Needs Satisfaction Scale (RNSS) for coworker relationships and examined the factor structure of relational needs in the workplace and their connections to various work aspects. The sample comprised 273 participants, including both employees and students, in a workplace setting with coworkers. The results show that the Workplace Relational Needs Satisfaction Scale (W-RNSS) is a valid and reliable instrument (a = 0.93 for the total scale and 0.77 < a < 0.89 for the subscales) for measuring relational needs in coworker relationships. A bi-factor model was the most suitable for describing the data (χ2/df = 1.94, CFI = 0.95, TLI = 0.94, NNFI = 0.94, RMSEA = 0.06, SRMR = 0.04, AIC = 13289.27, BIC = 13506.29), confirming the previously supported 5-factor structure and the general factor. Satisfaction of relational needs was associated with higher work satisfaction, increased work engagement, greater motivation and lower burnout, underscoring the importance of quality interpersonal relationships among employees. This study reviews the concept of detachment in interpersonal relationships by examining its drivers and outcomes laying the foundation for detachment to potentially be extended to customer-employee relationships. Information from several studies in the fields of psychology and marketing was used to identify and categorize the drivers and outcomes of detachment. Using various search platforms, a total of 75 articles were deemed appropriate for this study and were thus included in the review. The results from this review provide a condensed list of preexisting and potential drivers and outcomes for detachment, each of which, were assigned to broader categories based on similarities and other relevant factors. Similarities were also drawn between detachment in adult interpersonal and customer-attachment figure relationships to solidify detachment's extension to customer-employee relationships. This study contributes to theory by being among the first to provide a summarized list of potential drivers and outcomes of detachment within a single paper, thereby advancing the existing knowledge of detachment. The results of this review may also be of particular importance to psychologists and marketing managers as it provides a comprehensive discussion of how detachment could occur in both interpersonal and customer-employee relationships and the possible consequences thereof. Guaranteeing efficient evacuations in urban communities is critical for preserving lives, minimizing disaster impacts, and promoting community resilience. Challenges such as high population density, limited evacuation routes, and communication breakdowns complicate evacuation efforts. Vulnerable populations, urban infrastructure constraints, and the increasing frequency of disasters further contribute to the complexity. Despite these challenges, the importance of timely evacuations lies in safeguarding human safety, enabling rapid disaster response, preserving critical infrastructure, and reducing economic losses. Overcoming these hurdles necessitates comprehensive planning, investment in resilient infrastructure, effective communication strategies, and continuous community engagement to foster preparedness and enhance evacuation efficiency. This research looks into the complexities of evacuation dynamics within urban residential areas, placing a particular focus on the interaction between joint-rental arrangements and family ties and their influence on evacuation strategies during emergency situations. Using agent-based modeling, evacuation simulation scenarios are implemented using the Changhongfang community (Shanghai) while systematically exploring how diverse interpersonal relationships impact the efficiency of evacuation processes. The adopted methodology encompasses a series of group experiments designed to determine the optimal proportions of joint-rental occupants within the community. Furthermore, the research examines the impact of various exit selection strategies on evacuation efficiency. Simulation outcomes shed light on the fundamental role of interpersonal factors in shaping the outcomes of emergency evacuations. Additionally, this study emphasizes the critical importance of strategic exit selections, revealing their potential to significantly enhance overall evacuation efficiency in urban settings. Parasocial relationships (PSRs), defined as one-sided relationships with media personas have grown in prevalence within the K-pop fandom in recent years, particularly for adolescents. This study utilizes an explanatory sequential mixed methods model to investigate the psychological impact of PSRs on adolescent K-pop fans. Adapting existing frameworks of PSR measurement, quantitative data was collected through an online survey sent to high school students aged 14-18, while qualitative data was collected through narrative interviews. the key findings revealed that PSRs developed by adolescent K-pop fans often lead to unhealthy emotional attachment and unre- alistic perceptions of beauty and interpersonal relationships, with social media acting as a mediator. Major psychological impacts identified include behavioral modifications, appearance insecurities, and emotional codependency, caused by extended exposure to misleading marketing techniques in K-pop. The study highlights the need for wider investigation of unhealthy standards perpetuated by the K-pop industry and the development of positive media consumption habits.

In the article, the researcher conducted on the psychological preparation of adolescent gymnasts is analysed and systematised. Additionally, the factors that play an important role in the psychological preparation of gymnasts are discussed and psychologically interpreted. In the article, the author emphasises the importance of the individual psychological characteristics of gymnasts in preparing them for the competition. Furthermore, it is noted that the gymnast-coach relationship and their interactions with peers have a significant impact on the psychological preparation of gymnasts. This, in turn, leads to a change in the psychological climate of a team. According to literature, psychological preparation, or psychological skills training as it is also called, constitutes part of the whole process followed by an athlete during their athletic preparation. Weinberg & Williams suggest the best time to implement such a program is off-season or preseason. Psychological preparation nowadays constitutes an integral part of any sports programme aimed at preparing athletes for the achievement of high performance. Indeed, the importance of psychological skills training in developing athletic performance is widely acknowledged, and the number of athletes implementing psychological training strategies is increasing. Success in the psychological preparation of athletes can be achieved by having the right influence on their psyche. It is impossible to train athletes successfully without considering the psychology of the individual and the team. This is especially important in the field of gymnastics

Background. The relevance of the work is due to insufficient knowledge of adolescents’ understanding disappointment, its causes and ways of its overcoming. Objective. The study had purpose to investigate into ideas about disappointment among the young people aged 17–25 years. Study Participants. The study involved 285 people (180 girls and 105 boys) aged 17–25 years. Methods. The study implemented content analysis of mini-essays on the topic: “My idea of disappointment” including answers to the following questions: “What is disappointment?”, “What feelings did you experience when disappointed?”, “The greatest disappointment in my life.” Results. The study allowed to analyze the concepts of disappointment among young people, to identify its different types and describe the specifics of experiencing disappointment in the selected age groups. All subjects understand disappointment as a manifestation of negative emotions in response to an expected result. The study has identified three types of disappointment: in oneself, in others, in activities. When describing feelings associated with disappointment, negative emotions predominated in the 17–20-year-old group. In the 21–25-year-old group, in addition to negative ones, there were also positive feelings as grounds for revising plans and their implementation. Conclusions. In the young people aged 17–25 experiencing disappointment, the negative emotions reinforce their negative self-affirmation and destroy their confidence in the truth of their feelings towards themselves and others. Only a small number of young people can see the possibility of positive changes in a situation of disappointment, which makes it difficult to correct behavior and attitudes towards others in the process of overcoming disappointment. The results obtained allow for introducing the concept of disappointment, which affects interpersonal relationships, into the social psychology. The proposed recommendations can be used by educators and psychologists practicing support to the people of different ages aimed at overcoming frustration of disappointments.

The purpose of this article is to study psychological characteristics and parents-children interpersonal relationships in the family with a child with intellectual disabilities. Methods of the research. The following theoretical methods of the research were used to solve the tasks formulated in the article: a categorical method, structural and functional methods, the methods of the analysis, systematization, modeling, generalization. The empirical method is a pilot research. The results of the research. Such personal characteristics, as aggression, infantilism, shyness (the result of disrupted relationships between a child and his/her parents) can be attributed to three levels of parent-child interpersonal relationships: Level I – the relationships between parents and a child are characterized as passive-defensive ones, children are in a state of hidden conflict, there is no possibility of establishing emotional intimacy; Level II – there is adaptive atmosphere of emotional incontinence in the family. Children adopt this style and treat their parents in a “mirror” way – it is active-defensive style. Children are confident that their requests and desires will not be satisfied. Accusations are responded to them with aggression. They do not know how to restrain emotional reactions; their behavior is dominated by excitability, conflicts and aggressiveness; Level III – there are the same family characteristics as in the second level, but children are noted to have a weak nervous system. As a result, in response to sharp influences from the side of their parents, physiological disorders arise such reactions, as tic, enuresis, stuttering. Typically, such a child is characterized by obedience, but the possibility of outbursts of aggression towards peers cannot be ruled out. Conclusions. We showed, that the extreme variant of violations of the relationships between parents and children was “maternal deprivation”. This condition is characterized by severe psychological discomfort of the child, occurs in conditions of constant absence of the mother or severe rejection from the side of her attitude to a child. Both in theoretical and experimental studies which deal with the influence of the family situation on the formation of behavioral tendencies and personality traits of children, play the enormous role of the mother. So, in the situation of the absence of the mother or in the situation where the child saw her extremely rarely, the child felt emotional discomfort, cried more often, was stubborn and aggressive.

From close friends to people on a first date, imagining a shared future appears fundamental to relationships. Yet, no previous research has conceptualized the act of imagination as a socially constructed process that affects how connected we feel to others. The present studies provide a framework for investigating imagination as a collaborative process in which individuals cocreate shared representations of hypothetical events--what we call collaborative imagination. Across two preregistered studies (N = 244), we provide evidence that collaborative imagination of a shared future fosters social connection in novel dyads--beyond imagining a shared future individually or shared experience in general. Subjective ratings and natural language processing of participants' imagined narratives illuminate the representational features of imagined events shaped by collaborative imagination. Together, the present findings have the potential to shift how we view the structure and function of imagination with implications for better understanding interpersonal relationships and collective cognition. This study assessed how clinical anxiety, anxiety about aging, and death anxiety related to one another and to intrapersonal functioning. Older adults completed the Geriatric Anxiety Scale, Anxiety About Aging Scale, Death Anxiety Scale-Extended, and Intrapersonal Problems Rating Scale. Clinical anxiety was strongly correlated with anxiety about aging (r =.50) and death anxiety (r =.59), and anxiety about aging and death anxiety were strongly positively correlated with each other (r =.51). Intrapersonal problems were significantly and strongly positively correlated with clinical anxiety (r =.79), anxiety about aging (r =.50), and death anxiety (r =.56). Multiple regression results showed that the three types of anxiety accounted for a large amount of variance in intrapersonal problems. Findings suggest strong comorbidities between diverse forms of anxiety with some unique features. Intrapersonal deficits may be prominent in the presence of diverse forms of anxiety. Ghosting, or ignoring someone to end a relationship, is often considered a harmful aspect of growing digital connectivity. However, research on ghosting has focused on the experiences of European/European Americans in romantic contexts. Thus, we broadly explored experiences of being ghosted among 29 undergraduates primarily from underrepresented populations (75.9% Latinx, 6.9% Asian, 6.9% Black) in the United States. We conducted face‐to‐face semi‐structured interviews regarding general experiences with being ghosted, a memorable experience of being ghosted, and attitudes toward ghosting. Inductive thematic analysis yielded eight themes surrounding the process of being ghosted (Sensing Shifts in Communication Patterns), ghosting attributions (Unreciprocated Feelings, Incompatibility), responses to ghosting (Stages of Grief, Various Coping Methods, Lost Respect for Ghoster, Insight from Experiencing Both Sides), and ghosting attitudes (Good Reasons). Future research might examine the role of both individual (e.g., cultural values) and situational (e.g., ghosting circumstance) factors in various trajectories of ghosting responses, as well as the psychological consequences of these trajectories. The purposes of our study were to investigate the suitability of human attachment concepts (anxiety and avoidance) in describing attachment to cats and to directly compare people's attachment to their romantic partner with that to a pet cat. We used the 12-item Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-Short form (ECR-S) and the same measure adapted for cats. Items in the two measures had identical wording; only the attachment figure differed (e.g., "I feel close to my romantic partner" and "I feel close to my cat"). Items referred to a specific attachment figure (e.g., "my cat," not "cats"). We received 453 valid responses to our online survey from participants in a romantic relationship who also had one cat. Factor analysis of the adapted ECR-S (for cats) did not result in the same factors as the ECR-S for humans. However, the six components of attachment anxiety (fear of interpersonal rejection or abandonment, excessive need for approval from others, and distress when one's partner is unavailable or unresponsive) and avoidance (fear of dependence and interpersonal intimacy, excessive need for self-reliance, and reluctance to self-disclose) were structurally similar for both relationships. Although participants sought some degree of emotional support from their cats, they did not necessarily need reassurance from their cat or feel distress when their cat was unavailable to them the way they might about a romantic partner. The ECR needs further testing and external validation to be adapted for the human–cat relationship. The paper aims to explore the negative impacts of social relationships (SR) on business activity. As a research context, the video game industry (VGI) and the video game developers' (VGDs) relationships are analyzed. 17 semistructured in-depth interviews and 1 focus group interview with Polish VGDs were conducted. (1) support for five negatives of SR previously discussed in the literature (2) recognition of the four original negatives (i.e., employee turnover, buying up employees, inefficiency/termination of interorganizational cooperation, and confidential information leakage); and (3) recognition of the harmful results of SR as an industry-dependent issue. (1) Analyzing the negative consequences of SR for business, which is less frequently considered compared to the positive consequences of these relationships for business; (2) identifying dark sides previously unidentified in the literature; and (3) using the VGI as the research context. Objective: This study explores how life transitions, such as cohabitation, marriage, separation/divorce, and childbearing, affect three dimensions of full-sibling relationships (contact, intimacy, and conflict). Background: Sibling relationships shape family dynamics and context, providing enduring support and affection as the longest-lasting relationships in an individual's life. Studying their evolution during life transitions enhances our understanding of these dynamics, considering their prolonged nature, peer status, and shared family history. Method: We use data from the German Family Panel, specifically five waves (V, VII, IX, XI, and XIII), and fixed effects regression models that acknowledge life course transitions of both sibling dyads. Results: The life course perspective fails to fully capture the complex sibling bond, as contact between siblings decreased when one entered into cohabitation, but increased with marriage, separation, and parenthood. Nevertheless, the findings revealed that changes in sibling intimacy afterlife course transitions are consistent with the perspective. This dimension weakened during family formation but strengthened when unions dissolved. Conflict between siblings also decreased when starting to live with a partner, while it increased after separation, implying a spillover from romantic to sibling relationships. Conclusion: Overall, these findings suggest that the theoretical framework for adult sibling life courses should consider sibling family formation events. The study highlights the significance of sibling relationships and their potential impact on shaping family context and dynamics as they are often the longest-lasting relationships. Prior work shows that gift recipients are surprisingly insensitive to the amount of money givers spend, even though more expensive gifts represent a greater investment by givers and impart greater value to recipients. We suggest that recipients' apparent indifference may be explained by competing reactions to gift expenditure. Specifically, we propose that recipients are not unresponsive to gift expenditure, per se, but that money's association with instrumentality means that conspicuous monetary expenditures can cause recipients to contemplate givers' instrumental motives (i.e., become suspicious). Four studies show that large gift expenditures can cause recipients to become suspicious of givers' motives and that suspicion undermines recipients' otherwise positive reactions. We further show that expenditures that are less strongly associated with instrumentality (time and effort) and gifts that have a weaker association with money and instrumentality (experiential gifts) are less prone to suspicion and are appreciated more. Objective Background Method Results Conclusion This article provides an overview of the Cross‐Lagged Panel Model (CLPM), Random‐Intercept Cross‐Lagged Panel Model (RI‐CLPM), and Latent Curve Model with Structured Residuals (LCM‐SR), highlighting the major issues of the CLPM for relationship science, and discusses dyadic extensions of those three models.Understanding interdependencies among people and constructs is a central interest in relationship science. Addressing such research questions requires complex designs ideally using data collected at multiple measurement occasions of multiple constructs from at least two persons (e.g., both partners of a couple). The Cross‐Lagged Panel Model (CLPM) has been widely used to analyze such data, however, particularly during the last decade, it has been pointed out that the CLPM confounds between‐ and within‐person variation. As a consequence, alternative models such as the Random‐Intercept Cross‐Lagged Panel Model (RI‐CLPM) and the Latent Curve Model with Structured Residuals (LCM‐SR) were proposed that aim to disentangle between‐ and within‐person variation and, hence, allow conclusions regarding within‐person dynamics.As an illustrative example, we apply dyadic extensions of the CLPM, RI‐CLPM, and LCM‐SR to investigate the dynamic interplay between depression and relationship satisfaction in a sample of 1699 mixed‐gender couples surveyed in the German Family Panel.While the CLPM indicated a reciprocal relationship between depression and satisfaction, the RI‐CLPM and LCM‐SR indicated a unidirectional association flowing from depression to satisfaction.We discuss how findings like this can foster theory‐building and, ultimately, strengthen relationship science. Some studies show that people with friends of different races also have lower levels of implicit racial bias. Yet, other studies do not replicate this finding. The omission of political parties from this research may explain its contradictory results, given the central role that race has played in the polarization of US society. Recent scholarship shows that political partisanship influences whether intergroup friendships improve explicit (i.e. conscious) attitudes. However, no studies have asked if friendships with African Americans have differing effects on white Democrats' and Republicans' anti-Black implicit bias. This paper examines this question by analyzing Race IAT and survey responses from 1,868 white Americans. Results reveal that white Democrats and Republicans maintain friendships with African Americans at similar rates. Yet, having Black friends only predicts weaker anti-Black implicit bias among white Democrats. This finding suggests that partisan differences in interracial friendship dynamics may shape implicit racial attitudes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic saw a shift toward a more traditional division of labor–one where women took greater responsibility for household tasks and childcare than men. We tested whether this regressive shift was more acutely perceived and experienced by women in countries with greater gender equality. Cross-cultural longitudinal survey data for women and men (N = 10,238) was collected weekly during the first few months of the pandemic. Multilevel modelling analyses, based on seven waves of data collection, indicated that a regressive shift was broadly perceived but not uniformly felt. Women and men alike perceived a shift toward a more traditional division of household labor during the first few weeks of the pandemic. However, this perception only undermined women's satisfaction with their personal relationships and subjective mental health if they lived in countries with higher levels of economic gender equality. Among women in countries with lower levels of economic gender equality, the perceived shift predicted higher relationship satisfaction and mental health. There were no such effects among men. Taken together, our results suggest that subjective perceptions of disempowerment, and the gender role norms that underpin them, should be considered when examining the gendered impact of global crisis. Objectives Women tend to ruminate more than men, and are generally more hypervigilant to the emotions of others in order to maintain positive social ties. Thus, compared to men, women may ruminate more when their social partners have greater life stresses. However, the literature on stressful events typically focuses on individuals' experiences and perceptions of stressors experienced by specific social ties such as spousal partners and adult children. The purpose of this study was to examine links between perceptions of a broad array of family and nonfamily social partner stresses and daily rumination among older men and women. Methods Adults aged 65 and older (N = 293, 55% women) completed baseline assessments of family and nonfamily life stressors and 5–6 consecutive nightly assessments regarding rumination, interpersonal tensions, worries, and support provision. Results Multilevel structural equation models revealed that perceptions of greater family and nonfamily life stressors were associated with greater rumination. The links between family stress and rumination varied by gender: family stress was related to greater rumination among women and not men. Moreover, among women, family and nonfamily stress–rumination links were accounted for by greater daily worries about others, and among men, the nonfamily stress–rumination link was due to greater interpersonal tensions as well as daily worries. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a pervasive social problem that can have long-term effects on women's relationships because it makes them vulnerable to revictimization. Girls are more vulnerable than boys to be victims of CSA, and those abused by someone they trust are at higher risk of experiencing increased trauma and interpersonal problems. This quantitative research study investigated the association between CSA and interpersonal relationships. Participants completed anonymous surveys exploring these two variables. Results showed that among other vulnerabilities, women who reported sexual abuse within the family reported overall greater interpersonal problems compared with non-abused participants. Given the prevalence of intrafamilial and other types of CSA and its impact on interpersonal relationships, providing an environment where girls are safe from abuse is important. Background: Research on suicide rarely focuses on protective factors. The goal of this systematic review was to assess the evidence of the associations between protective factors and reduced suicidality among older adults. Method: First, a scoping review was conducted to identify pertinent terms that refer to various protective factors against suicidality. A systematic review, following the PRISMA guidelines, was then conducted on a selection of 15 protective factors (e.g., perceived control, well-being and quality of life, life satisfaction, purpose-in-life, resilience, coping, religiosity, hope, self-regulation, sense of belonging, mattering, positive relationship, social support, social connectedness, and social participation), with separate searches performed on each factor in five databases. Empirical studies were eligible if participants were adults aged 60 years and over, and if the studies reported predictive statistical analysis. Results: A total of 70 studies were retained for the review. Suicidal ideation was the main outcome measure (91%). Significant associations were consistently observed between all protective factors and reduced suicidal ideations or behaviors, particularly for purpose-in-life, resilience, and positive relationships, indicating that these are solid components for suicide prevention. Using scales, instead of a single item, to measure protective factors (e.g. life satisfaction) was more efficient to capture the associations. On the other hand, results were similar whether studies used subjective (e.g., sense of belonging) or objective (e.g., social connectedness) measures. Conclusion: Protective factors were inversely associated with suicidal ideation. Improving protective factors is essential for the development of late-life suicide prevention and interventions, instead of merely focusing on risk factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The scientific article presents the results of a legal and psychological study of the role of prolonged psychological manipulation in the formation and unfolding of the deep polyphonic conflict «domestic violence». The topicality of the topic is due to the acuteness of the problem of domestic violence and the need for a scientific search for optimal ways to reduce the risks of domestic violence. Given the specifics of the research subject, in the context of this research, the phenomenon of «psychological manipulation» is considered as the unlawful power influence of the perpetrator of domestic violence on a potential victim. The work is characterized by the novelty of the search model of theoretical and practical results. The characteristics of some formats of negative psychological manipulation are disclosed. It is emphasized that psychological violence pervades all other forms (types) of domestic violence. A generalized portrait of the passive offender's personality is compiled. Formulated author's statement about the role of manipulation in the development of domestic violence. The sources of the offender's violent behavior are emphasized and the factors of the victim's subordinate victim behavior are noted. The opinion on the expediency of increasing the level of psychological self-regulation of the individual in order to adapt potential victims to the factors provoking domestic violence is given. Purpose: This article aims to explore the impact of interpersonal relationship stimuli and click-like on purchase intention across different generations of bank customers, with a focus on the moderating effect of online trust. Design/methodology/approach: The sample consists of 435 online bank customers from the Facebook community and the data collection was conducted using an online survey method. The model estimation utilized the partial least squares technique, along with multigroup analysis and importance-performance map analysis. Findings: The empirical evidence supports the hypothesized relationships between interpersonal relationship stimuli, click-like and purchase intention, but varies across different generations and is contingent upon online trust. The analysis reveals commonalities in how Generation Z, Millennials and Generation X respond to interpersonal relationship stimuli while exhibiting distinct responses to click-like. Research limitations/implications: The empirical evidence confirms the hypothesized relationships between interpersonal relationship stimuli, click-like and purchase intention. However, these relationships exhibit variations across different generations and are contingent upon the level of online trust. The analysis highlights shared responses to interpersonal relationship stimuli among Generation Z, Millennials and Generation X, while also revealing distinct reactions to click-like within these generational groups. Interpersonal relationships and behavioral problems are important aspects of children's social development. This study investigated the relationships among parental nature orientation, children's teacher–student relationships, peer relationships, and behavioral problems and examined the mediating role of children's nature connectedness in these relationships through a longitudinal design. A sample of 398 children (Mage = 9.43 ± 0.87 years old) participated in this study. We acquired parental nature orientation and children's nature connectedness data at the baseline survey (T1) and received information on children's teacher–student relationships, peer relationships, and behavioral problems at T1 and at the10-month follow-up (T2). The mediation analyses were performed using bootstrapping. After controlling for children's gender, age, grade, teacher–student relationships, peer relationships, and behavioral problems at T1, we found that parental nature orientation at T1 was positively related to children's peer relationships at T2 and negatively correlated with children's behavioral problems at T2. In addition, children's nature connectedness at T1 fully mediated the relationship between parental nature orientation at T1 and children's teacher–student relationships at T2. Our findings indicate that parents should maintain a positive nature orientation and focus on the guidance of children's nature connectedness to improve children's teacher–student relationships and peer relationships and reduce behavioral problems. AbstractYouth with complex mental health disorders who identify as Indigenous may access residential mental health treatment (RT). There is a dearth of reports focussed on their community adaptation following RT. The purpose for this report was to explore the experiences of youth who identify as Indigenous from their perspective and that of their caregivers in a provincial region in Canada. In the original case study, 25 youth and parents participated in interviews; four of these youth identified as Indigenous. Their experiences in the year following discharge from RT indicated improved family relationships, continued problems in peer relationships, and improvements in school engagement. The spread of COVID-19 resulted in restrictive lockdowns. For families supporting young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the service system was stripped away. The aim of this study was to explore the impact of this challenging situation on a group of Australian carers and parents of children and young people with ASD, with an intention to inform policy and practice based on the lived experiences of these families. A survey of parents of children and young people with ASD in Australia returned 117 responses, of which 86 responded to open-ended questions about COVID-19 lockdowns. Twelve parents responded to the invitation to be interviewed. Interview and survey data were analysed thematically. Five themes emerged: accessing support services, receiving support services online, changes in behaviour, higher levels of conflict, and impact on health and relationships. The experience of lockdowns under COVID-19 undermined informal and formal support systems, and had a particularly strong negative impact on the experiences of children with ASD and their families. These findings also provide support for understanding the social model of disability as a mainstay in the lives of children with disabilities and their carers. IMPLICATIONS The social model of disability was dismantled for children and young people and their carers during the COVID crisis. This unacceptable attack on the human rights of disabled people (people with a disability) needs future planning to ensure that it does not occur again. Background and Objectives Increasing age brings a greater risk of death of friends and family (hereafter referred to as loss) potentially impacting individuals' life-space mobility (LSM) trajectory. Research Design and Methods Using the UAB study of aging, we examined differences in LSM trajectories of 1,000 community-dwelling older Alabamians (65 + years) with and without loss over 8.5 years. We measured LSM using UAB's Life-Space Assessment (LSA), a validated instrument assessing movement through zones ranging from their bedroom to out of town. We assessed loss every 6 months using a standard bereavement questionnaire capturing spousal, other relative, or friend loss. We used piecewise linear mixed-effects models to compare LSA trajectories. Results At baseline, those who later experienced loss, compared with those who did not were younger, more likely to be female, and overall in better health. Those without loss had a baseline mean LSA score of 49.5 and a decline of 0.08 points per year (p  < .001). Those with loss had a baseline LSA score of 60 and declined by 1.0 point per year before loss (p  < .001), accelerating to 1.8 points per year after loss (p  < .001). Discussion and Implications Those with loss do not experience acute decline postloss but do have an acceleration of the preexisting decline. Although additional research may explain the impact of loss on LSM; this finding suggests that more interventions such as social, mental, or health care services, may be needed for those who experience loss. This study investigated the differences between Chinese female and male university students regarding the relationship between conscientiousness, interpersonal relationships, and social loafing. By analyzing these relationships, this study interpreted how personality, mediators, and gender differences affect social loafing. In total, 827 Chinese university students were recruited from three universities in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. Students completed an online questionnaire, which included a conscientiousness scale, an interpersonal relationship scale, and a social loafing scale. Structural equation modeling was performed to test the validity of the measurement scales, mediating effects, and group differences. The findings revealed that the relationship between conscientiousness, interpersonal relationships, and social loafing differed between female and male Chinese university students. Interpersonal relationships served as a partial mediator in the relationship between conscientiousness and social loafing among female students. Interpersonal relationships did not play a mediating role in the relationship between conscientiousness and social loafing among male students. Background: The researcher’s previous study indicated that couples in a relationship where one partner is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) experience intra- and inter-personal difficulties affecting interaction with self and others. Therefore, constructive intra- and inter-personal relationships are essential to facilitate the mental health of couples in a relationship where one partner is diagnosed with BPD. However, the concept has not been defined and applied in caring for such couples. Aim: The study aims to clarify its meaning by identifying and defining the central concept of ‘facilitation of constructive intra- and inter-personal relationships’. Setting: The researcher used results from a previous study that explored the experiences of couples in a relationship where one partner is diagnosed with a mental illness to identify and define the central concept. Methods: The concept was examined using analysis, synthesis, and inductive reasoning strategies, which were applied in two phases. Results: The central concept of ‘facilitation of constructive intra- and inter-personal relationships’ for couples where one partner is diagnosed with BPD was identified and defined using a dictionary and subject definitions. Conclusion: Identifying and defining the central concept is essential to developing a model to facilitate constructive intra- and inter-personal relationships. Contribution: The concept ‘facilitation of constructive intra- and inter-personal relationships’ is unique in its form and valuable for developing a model that can be used as a guiding tool for psychiatric nurses to facilitate the mental health of such couples. Furthermore, the model could benefit other relationships experiencing intra- and inter-personal challenges.
