Noise Level Modulation (NLM) is a robust physical-layer security technique which uses the injection of random phase noise into the transmitted signal to provide confidentiality in optical networks. The legitimate receiver can seamlessly recover the information by utilizing a feedback loop, while eavesdropping attempts fail, irrespective of the attacker’s location or computational capabilities. This paper outlines the theoretical and implementation principles of NLM when applied to full fiber-optic networks. Our findings reveal that NLM can attain a complete secrecy rate while ensuring compatibility with existing optical devices and protocols. We also propose a practical fiber optic-based implementation scheme, providing a thorough analysis of its variations from the theoretical framework. Furthermore, we delve into the challenges associated with NLM in the context of secure full optical communication systems and explore potential future directions.

Secure multi-party computation (MPC) enables multiple players to cooperatively evaluate various functions in the presence of adversaries. In this paper, we consider non-interactive MPC (NIMPC) against honest-but-curious adversaries in the information-theoretic setting, which was introduced by Beimel et al. at CRYPTO 2014. Their main focus is to realize stronger security while completely avoiding interaction, and succeeded to show that every function admits a fully robust NIMPC protocol. In this paper, we further develop the study of NIMPC. We first present a simple lower bound on the communication complexity derived from the correctness requirement of NIMPC. Secondly, we present an efficient NIMPC protocol for indicator functions, which is an important building block of NIMPC protocols. An NIMPC protocol for arbitrary functions is also constructed from the proposed NIMPC for indicator functions by using the generic compiler introduced by Beimel et al. in CRYPTO 2014. The communication complexities of NIMPC protocols presented in this paper are much more efficient than the previous ones. In fact, the gap between the lower and upper bounds of the communication complexity is reduced from exponential in the input length to quadratic. Finally, we show some improvements on the efficiency in the so-called offline-online model. Specifically, for some sets of functions, the exponential amount of offline communication reduces the online communication to almost optimum amount in the standard model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

E-lottery schemes have attracted much interest from both industry and academia recently, because they are not only useful to raise funds for charity institutions, but also can be used as the major building blocks to design micro-payment systems. In the literature, a number of e-lottery schemes have been introduced over the last two decades. However, most of these schemes rely on some computational assumptions. In this paper, we introduce a novel e-lottery scheme that achieves information theoretical security. Our proposed scheme is designed using symmetric bivariate polynomials, and it satisfies the required security properties, such as correctness, unpredictability, verifiability, and robustness. Moreover, the winning number is generated in a distributed fashion, so that no trusted third party needs to be involved and the danger of a single point of failure is minimized.

We consider a message authentication with distortion (DMA), where Alice encodes a source state and sends it over an unknown channel to Bob, who then tries to recover it, up to a small distortion. We formulate a formal model for this problem and define the authentication rate for DMA as the number of source symbols transmitted for each channel use. We characterize the best possible authentication rate (called authentication capacity) for a general DMA. We further study the keyless authentication problem in a noisy model in our previous work, where no secret setup is available for sender Alice and receiver Bob while there is discrete memoryless channel (DMC) W1 from Alice to Bob and a two-way noiseless but insecure channel between them. We propose a construction such that the message length over DMC W1 does not depend on the size of the source space. If the source space is \cal S and the number of channel W1 uses is n , then our protocol only has a round complexity of \log ^{*}|{\cal S}|-\log ^{*}n+ 4. In addition, we show that the round complexity of any secure protocol in our model is lower bounded by \log ^{*}|{\cal S}|-\log ^{*} n-$ 5. We also obtain a lower bound on the success probability when the message size on DMC W1 is given. Finally, we derive the capacity for a noninteractive authentication protocol under general DMCs, which extends the result under Binary Symmetric Channels in our previous work. In this paper, we study the probability of successful deception of an uncompressed biometric authentication system with side information at the adversary. It represents the scenario where the adversary may have correlated side information, e.g., a partial finger print or a DNA sequence of a relative of the legitimate user. We find the optimal exponent of the deception probability by proving both the achievability and the converse. Our proofs are based on a connection between the problem of deception with side information and the rate distortion problem with side information at both the encoder and the decoder. The design of rational cryptographic protocols is a recently created research area at the intersection of cryptography and game theory. In this paper, we propose a new m-out-of-n rational secret sharing scheme requiring neither the involvement of the dealer (except during the initial share distribution) nor a trusted mediator. Our protocol leads to a Nash equilibrium surviving the iterated deletion of weakly dominated strategies for m ≥ 4. Our construction is information theoretically secure and it is immune against backward induction attacks. Contrary to Kol and Naor who used a specific cryptographic primitive in their TCC'08 paper (namely, meaningful/meaningless encryption), the immunity of our scheme is based on the use of bivariate polynomials and one-time pads. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that such polynomials have been used for rational secret sharing. Our scheme is efficient and does not require any physical assumptions such as envelopes or ballot boxes. As most of existing rational protocols, our construction requires simultaneous broadcast channels. In this paper, we deal with the task of obtaining oblivious transfer (OT) from noisy resources. We characterize which noisy channels/distributions are useful for obtaining OT. We also introduce the problem of computing the oblivious-transfer capacity of a noisy resource, which measures the optimal way of implementing OT from a noisy channel/distribution.
