Background: Off-label use of semaglutide for non-diabetic weight loss (which regulators have linked to social media promotion) created worldwide supply shortages. We evaluated worldwide semaglutide interest measured by online search behavior to gauge social media and conventional print media reporting's effect on search interest. Methods: Using Google Trends Extended for Health (GTEH) multiple sampling, we retrieved regional online interest (ROI) for all countries and extracted timelines and top search queries for January 2021–August 2023 for countries with median ROI ≥ 20 using the "semaglutide" topic. We obtained semaglutide media reporting from the ProQuest database. We estimated the effect of media and within-country semaglutide interest on between-country interest with Granger causality analysis. We determined changepoints for trends within each country with joinpoint regression. We determined prominent themes in search queries for each country with natural language processing thematic analysis. Results: Twenty-seven countries were included. Most countries showed an increase in semaglutide interest over time, with Canada and the USA showing the largest sustained interest. Most of the search interest arose from 2022 onwards. Granger's analysis showed that media coverage could only partially explain interest, and interest in some countries partially preceded interest in others, with the UK and Germany showing strong relationships between news reports and lagged search interest. Joinpoint analysis identified up to four significant within-country changepoints. Most countries showed significant positive weekly trends in 2021–2022, although uptrends in search interest varied considerably between countries. One episode of the Dr. Oz show (TV media event) coincided with strong peaks in numerous countries. Natural language processing of top search queries showed some agreement between countries and country-specific themes. Weight loss was a major theme in most countries, while a diabetes theme was generally absent or weak. Some countries (Australia, Chile, South Africa, UK) had themes for buying Ozempic from (named) local retailers, and Germany had a theme related to buying Ozempic without a script. Conclusions: GTEH data provided insights into global search interest in semaglutide and regional variation. Purpose: In prior literature, online endorsement system allowing the users to "like" or "dislike" shared information is found very useful in information filtering and trust elicitation in most social networks. This paper shows that such systems could fail in the context of investment communities due to several psychological biases. Design/methodology/approach: This study develops a series of regression analyses to model the "like"/"dislike" voting process and whether or not such endorsement distinguishes between valuable information and noise. Trading simulations are also used to validate the practical implications of the findings. Findings: The main findings of this research are twofold: (1) in the context of investment communities, online endorsement system fails to signify value-relevant information and (2) bullish information and "wisdom over the past event" information receive more "likes" and fewer "dislikes" on average, but they underperform in stock market price discovery. Originality/value: This study demonstrates that biased endorsement may lead to the failure of the online endorsement system as information gatekeeper in investment communities. Two underlying mechanisms are proposed and tested. This study opens up new research opportunities to investigate the causes of biased endorsement in online environment and motivates the development of alternative information filtering systems. PurposeAccurate and understandable information after genetic testing is critical for patients, family members, and professionals alike.MethodsAs part of a cross-site study from the Clinical Sequencing Evidence-Generating Research consortium, we investigated the information-seeking practices among patients and family members at 5 to 7 months after genetic testing results disclosure, assessing the perceived utility of a variety of information sources, such as family and friends, health care providers, support groups, and the internet.ResultsWe found that individuals placed a high value on information obtained from genetics professionals and health care workers, independent of genetic testing result case classifications as positive, inconclusive, or negative. The internet was also highly utilized and ranked. Study participants rated some information sources as more useful for positive results compared with inconclusive or negative outcomes, emphasizing that it may be difficult to identify helpful information for individuals receiving an uncertain or negative result. There were few data from non-English speakers, highlighting the need to develop strategies to reach this population.ConclusionOur study emphasizes the need for clinicians to provide accurate and comprehensible information to individuals from diverse populations after genetic testing.

We examine the extent to which acute and chronic health conditions motivate individuals to seek air quality information. We apply the theoretical elements of the Health Belief Model (HBM) to improve risk communication about ambient air pollution. We discuss the practical applications of HBM, in tandem with the principles of health communication, within an environmental health context. We test the predictive power of selected components related to the HBM (perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, and cues to action) for intentions to seek information about ambient air quality. We surveyed 325 individuals throughout Nevada where poor air quality poses a risk for vulnerable populations. Ordinal logistic regression analyses showed that experiencing mucous membrane symptoms (eye itching, nose irritation, and dry throat/cough), perceived severity to future health threats, and having an at-risk member in the household positively and significantly predicted intentions to seek air quality information. Experiencing neuropsychological symptoms (fatigue, feeling heavy-headed, and nausea/dizziness), and having a cardiovascular or a respiratory condition did not have significant effects on reported intentions. We discuss how the results of this study can be integrated into health communication practices to increase public engagement with air quality information as a personal intervention measure. Air quality issues, exacerbated by wildfire smoke and excessive ozone that is worsened by climate change, pose significant health risks to outdoor workers, who are often overlooked in regulatory protection and communication efforts. This study examined how outdoor worker demographics, risk perceptions, and efficacy beliefs predict air quality protective actions and information seeking. Additionally, it investigates the sources of information that this population relies on for understanding air quality. A survey was conducted with 256 outdoor workers in Colorado, a state regularly affected by wildfire smoke and ozone. Measures included demographics, perceived risk, efficacy beliefs, air quality actions, and information seeking behavior. Both perceived risk and efficacy beliefs influenced health-protective actions during poor air quality events. Interestingly, efficacy beliefs were found to be a more reliable predictor of air quality information seeking than perceived risk. The top sources of air quality information among outdoor workers were local news media, The Weather Channel, mobile apps, state public health authorities, and the National Weather Service. These findings enhance our understanding of how perceived risk and efficacy beliefs promote health-protective behaviors among outdoor workers. They lay the groundwork for future research and initiatives to improve air quality communication and promote health-protective actions for this population group. Background and Aim: The term “information behavior,” with an emphasis on health and hygiene, refers to purposeful actions taken to satisfy informational needs related to health. The objective of the current research is to develop and validate a questionnaire on information behavior, with a focus on health and hygiene information. Materials and Methods: This study was a quantitative research conducted with a tool design approach. Initially, a questionnaire for measuring this behavior was prepared using instrument design methods. The basis for extracting the factors of the present questionnaire has been argumentation and logical repetition. In other words, the researcher, in line with the background of these factors and their repetition in the sources, used them as influential factors in the questionnaire construction. After confirming the content and structural validity, the modified questionnaire was distributed among 238 patients with multiple sclerosis. The sample selection. was done using the available sampling method. Then, the data were analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The internal consistency of the data was calculated using Cronbach’s alpha. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods with the help of SPSS and AMOS software. Results: The content validity of the questionnaire was evaluated with the opinion of 20 experts in information behavior. The reliability of the health information behavior questionnaire was adequate and satisfactory with the overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.78 and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the components between 0.71 and 0.94. In order to factor analysis, the sampling adequacy index and the value of Bartlett’s Crowley test were calculated, and all 29 items were statistically significant; which confirms the factorization of the correlation matrix. In the exploratory factor analysis, five factors (avoidance of information), the second factor (need for information), the third factor (exposure to information), the fourth factor (seeking information), and the fifth factor (use of information) were obtained. The indicators of confirmatory factor analysis showed the validity of the proposed structure. The results of the structural equation model test showed that the fit indices were favorable and also indicated the fit of the presented model in the MS patient population. Conclusion: The obtained results demonstrated that health information behavior in this questionnaire encompasses five factors: information needs, information-seeking behavior, information avoidance, information use, and information confrontation, which were confirmed. The designed scale for assessing health information behavior in the Iranian community has been evaluated and is recommended for use in measuring health information behavior effectively.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe the profile of older adults who access the internet to search for health information and identify the factors that can influence older adults’ decisions about their health based on information collected online. Methods: 391 older adults answered an online questionnaire regarding habits and satisfaction with information about health collected on the internet. Data processing involved Logistic Regression. Results: higher education reduces by 44% the likelihood of an older adult following the health recommendations on internet sites. However, social activities and self-perceived health increase the possibility of following the recommendations by 83% and 71%, respectively. The belief that the internet promotes healthy habits increases by 29.2 times the probability of an older adult following the advice. Final Considerations: knowing the profile of older adults who use the Internet can help professionals formulate public policies and build good information platforms on health and well-being.

Purpose: Economic and social status play a prominent role in many human activities and their function is accentuated in the theory of the knowledge gap. According to the idea, the knowledge of the people with higher socio-economic status increases compared to those with lower socio-economic status. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of socio-economic status (based on knowledge gap theory) in the information-seeking behavior of fellow members of staff at Qom University.Method: The study was an applied research in terms of purpose and in terms of strategy and data collection was correlational. The population consisted of 761 university employees. Based on Cochran’s formula the sample of the study included 255 employees. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data. Spearman and X2 statistical tests were applied to analyze data.Findings: People who have a higher socio-economic status (with higher employment, income and education levels) are more motivated to search and obtain information, and there is a significant relationship between the components of individuals' socio-economic status and the type of the used information resources. Socio-economic status affects the criteria for evaluating information resources, and people with higher rate use various evaluation criteria while assessing the information. People with socio-economic status use various and different channels to obtain information, thus, there is a positive and significant relationship between the use of search engines and meta-search engines, internal and external databases, conference papers, library RSS, specialized social networks, consultation with librarians and technical blogs, and their socio-economic status.Conclusion: The social and economic status explains and predicts the information-seeking behavior of the staff and the results confirmed the theory of knowledge gap. Prediction of the facilities required for searching and seeking information in organizations and making them accessible to all human resources can help provide fair access to information for the better part of society and reduce the knowledge gap.

"In response to the arrival of the age of information technology, the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-year Basic Education published by the Taiwanese government in 2019 incorporates information technology a standalone academic subject. Transformation of curricula and teaching practices brought about by education reforms attaches increasing importance to the professional competencies and information needs of teachers. In this study, a semi-structured interview was conducted with 15 secondary school information technology teachers in New Taipei City to examine their information needs when delivering education, in addition to exploring their information seeking and usage processes. The results revealed that acquisition of new technological knowledge was the primary information need of the information technology teachers when preparing their teaching. New information needs surfaced because of limitations in the existing teaching resources, and the teachers desired a peer exchange platform for integrating teaching resources, assisting with the articulation of administrative work and curricula, and reinforcing the association between information technology and student future careers. The teachers used various information sources, such as past teaching materials, interpersonal communication, research, and libraries, to search for teaching resources. They also actively employed online resources and artificial intelligence to locate teaching materials. The types of information sources frequently used by the teachers included books and lesson briefings, and they often applied images and multimedia materials to assist with teaching. When selecting data, the teachers verified their accuracy and novelty, and videos with clear and concise contents were chosen as teaching materials. The teachers upload teaching materials to digital platforms, allowing students to engage in self-directed learning. Practical assessments, worksheets, and tests were employed to understand students’ learning outcomes, and teaching methods were adjusted according to student feedback."

The emergence of institutional repositories (IRs) is seen as a new scholarly publishing model. This study aims to understand the adoption of technology from the perspective of information behavior by exploring users' characteristics of information need, awareness, and need of IRs concerning the use of IRs. Three hundred university lecturers from six state Islamic universities were observed to obtain their perception of the need for IRs using a questionnaire survey. Partial least square structural equation modeling was used for data analysis. The analyses of measurement and structural models were conducted to validate the relationship between the observed variables. The study found that the information-seeking behavior model has partially explained the use of repositories among university scholars by 53,5%. The results mean that other factors influence the use of IRs that are not examined by this research.

ObjectiveWe examined the impact of language preference and health literacy on health information-seeking experiences in a multilingual, low-income cohort.MethodsWe administered a modified Health Information National Trends Survey in English, Spanish, and Chinese to a sample of San Francisco city/county residents. Using multivariable logistic regression analyses, we assessed how language and health literacy impact health information-seeking experiences (confidence, effort, frustration, quality concerns, and difficulty understanding information), adjusting for age, gender, race/ethnicity, education, usual place of care, health status, information-seeking behaviors, and smartphone ownership.ResultsOf 1000 participants (487 English-speaking, 256 Spanish-speaking, 257 Chinese-speaking), 820 (82%) reported at least one negative health information-seeking experience. Chinese-language was associated with frustration (aOR = 2.56; 1.12-5.86). Difficulty understanding information was more likely in Spanish-language respondents (aOR = 3.58; 1.25-10.24). Participants with limited health literacy reported more effort (aOR = 1.97; 1.22-3.17), frustration (aOR = 2.09; 1.28-3.43), concern about quality (aOR = 2.72; 1.60-4.61), and difficulty understanding information (aOR = 2.53; 1.58-4.05). Language and literacy impacted confidence only in the interaction term between Chinese-speakers and health literacy.ConclusionWe found that negative health information-seeking experiences were common in non-English speaking populations those with limited health literacy.Practice implicationsHealth communication efforts should consider both language preference and health literacy to ensure accessibility for all patients.

Promoting COVID-19 vaccination (both the primary series and boosters) remains a priority among healthcare professionals and requires understanding the various sources people trust for acquiring COVID-19 information. From October 2021 to May 2022, we interviewed 150 people who called 2–1–1 helplines in Connecticut and North Carolina about their COVID-19 testing and vaccination experiences in order to (1) better understand where people obtain trusted COVID-19 health information and (2) identify how public health professionals can share emergency health information in the future. We used a mixed methods approach in which semi-structured qualitative interviews and survey data were collected in parallel and analyzed separately. Participants were mostly female (74.0%), Black (43.3%) or White (38.0%), and had a high school degree or higher (88.0%). Most had prior COVID-19 testing experience (88.0%) and were vaccinated (82.7%). A variety of information sources were rated as being very trustworthy including medical professionals and social service organizations. We found that repetition of information from multiple sources increased trust; however, perceived inconsistencies in recommendations over time eroded trust in health communication, especially from government-affiliated information sources. Observations such as seeing long lines for COVID-19 testing or vaccination became internalized trusted information. Public health professionals can leverage the reach and strong community ties of existing, reputable non-government organizations, such as physician groups, schools, and pharmacies, to distribute COVID-19 information about vaccination and testing. The purpose of this study is to explore the reasons why LINE Pay users adopt this innovation, the information needs and informationseeking behavior in the innovation-decision process which includes the knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation stages, and the factors that influence mobile payment users to continue to use LINE Pay. This study applied qualitative research method and researchers conducted semi-structured interview to collect data. A total of 12 interviews were conducted with LINE Pay users. This study’s results indicate that the reasons why LINE Pay was adopted are as follows: It allows users make payments more conveniently, maintain personal hygiene, receive LINE points and bonuses, integrate with the most commonly used communication software, use a variety of channels and bundle with cloud invoice codes via the interface. Secondly, the information needs of LINE Pay users are as follows: information about channels and shops, interface use and functions, the participating shops and suppliers and their related regulations, discount and rebate rules, differences between other transaction methods, and information security. Furthermore, information-seeking channels are the following: online resources, official channels, interpersonal channels, shops, and mass media. Finally, factors affecting continuous use of LINE Pay include information security, number of channels, amount of discounts and rebates, the interface of the LINE Pay system, and the number of users among friends and relatives. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the level of information literacy in the behavior of information-seeking and republishing information in social networks among graduate students of Razi University, Kermanshah. Methods: The research method was applied in terms of purpose was a survey one, and the statistical population of the research included all postgraduate students of the fields studying in the affiliated faculties of Razi University, which has a sample size of 217 people and using Sampling Method Stratified randomization was determined. The research tool included a consolidated questionnaire in two parts information literacy and information accuracy in republishing information in the virtual space; Cronbach's alpha was estimated at 0.78. The normality of the research variables was checked by using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to test the research hypotheses, the research hypotheses were analyzed using the necessary tests. SPSS.26 software was used for data analysis. Findings: The findings of the research show that the average level of information literacy of graduate students of Razi University was at an average level, although the level of education of the respondents was significantly related to this level of information literacy, and the doctoral students all had an average level of literacy. The information was high. However, gender does not have a significant effect on the level of students' information literacy. Also, a significant relationship was observed between the level of information literacy and the components of data documentation and data health in the accuracy of information republished in the virtual space, but there was no significant relationship in the components of examining the expertise of the message narrator. Conclusion: In explaining the obtained results and the high level of the information need detection component, it can be claimed that the ability to detect the information needs and determine the extent and location of information plays a key role in strengthening the students' abilities. Regarding the components of critical evaluation of information, which was obtained with a lower average than other components of information literacy, it can be said that by increasing the ability to critically evaluate information, the diagnostic capabilities in republishing information of individuals also increase. The ability to critically evaluate information with skills such as the ability of reviewing and comparing information obtained from different sources, to determine the validity and correctness of the information, to detect the presence of fraud and manipulation in information causes the ability to analyze and review different and contradictory views. The set of these skills leads the students to have possibility to ensure the correctness and ability to use the information correctly. Also, improving the level of information literacy among students can help to increase the accuracy and correctness of the information republished in cyberspace. In general, the current situation of information literacy of graduate students of Razi University of Kermanshah is at a desirable level. However, since a significant relationship between the level of information literacy and the accuracy of information was reported in the republishing of information in cyberspace, it is possible to take necessary measures to increase the level of information literacy in master's degree students or even lower education levels, which will improve the performance of students. To develop knowledge and improve the accuracy of republished messages in cyberspace among students. It is suggested that the necessary decisions should be taken by high policymakers to design, implement, and evaluate information literacy for university professors, so that professors, along with presenting their specialized courses, also transfer the necessary skills related to information literacy to students. Executive Summary: This study examines migration risk perception and information engagement by potential migrants from Moldova. Employing a qualitative interview approach (N = 30), it explores the behaviors, intentions, and perceptions that underpin how potential migrants understand labor migration risks. It establishes a robust connection between risk perception and the active pursuit of pertinent information. The study offers a matrix that illustrates the interplay between migration risk perception (high vs. low) and type of risk (individual vs. systemic). It finds that respondents in the High Risk — Systemic group refrain from seeking information, viewing all migration as inherently highly risky due to systemic factors beyond their control. The Low Risk — Systemic group believes migration carries relatively low risks, but that these risks are not individually manageable. The Low Risk — Individual group engages passively with safe migration information because of their perception of low risk. The High Risk — Individual group actively seeks information about safe migration, believing that they can overcome potential risks. In short, the study finds that potential migrants' perception and understanding of risk shapes their engagement with safe migration information. The study also highlights gender disparities in risk perception and response. While women emphasize concerns tied to sexual exploitation and separation from family, men are more likely to fear fatal accidents and industry-specific exploitation. The study's findings should inform the development of policy frameworks and migration information campaigns that reflect diverse perceptions and understandings of migration risk. Policy Recommendations: To mitigate migration risks and promote safer practices, policymakers at various levels, including the Moldovan government, international agencies (e.g., IOM, UNHCR, and ILO), non-governmental organizations (like LaStrada), and EU bodies, should: Tailor public education and communication campaigns for diverse risk factors, using different messaging for varying risk perceptions. Address gender-specific concerns with practical advice and resources. Develop comprehensive risk awareness programs covering physical, emotional, and psychological challenges. Use diverse channels (hotlines, online platforms, and workshops) to reach a broader audience. Strengthen embassy services, ensuring staff are informed about migration risks, challenges, and effective outreach and education strategies. Collaborate with mental health professionals to provide psychosocial support. Engage returnee migrants as credible sources of information and advice. Include migration topics in school curricula to enhance migration risk preparedness. A comprehensive and informed approach to managing personal health and making sound medical decisions relies heavily on accurate, current health information. This vital knowledge is attainable through a diverse array of sources. The provision and accessibility of health information assume paramount importance in enhancing healthcare quality and outcomes. Within the Indian context, where 70% of the population resides in rural areas, a pressing demand for health information persists, compounded by formidable obstacles to accessing healthcare services. This study seeks to illuminate the impediments and sources obstructing the flow and retrieval of health information within rural domains. Emphasis is placed on investigating the information-seeking behaviors, health-related needs, challenges, and comprehension of both rural inhabitants and healthcare institutions. Furthermore, the research delves into the interplay between traditional practices and conventional medical approaches, scrutinizing the role of folk medicine alongside established medical modalities. The study specifically focuses on the Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh, chosen as a representative locale to decipher the structure, dynamics, and hurdles intrinsic to these systems. To assess the channels of information dissemination and access, a dual-pronged survey strategy was employed. The initial survey targeted health information providers and traditional healers, while the subsequent survey encompassed a randomized sampling of rural communities. Findings underscore the profound significance of both traditional healers and modern healthcare establishments in facilitating the distribution of high-caliber medical insights. Revelations highlight a substantial knowledge gap among rural residents concerning health matters, exacerbated by a pronounced disparity between population coverage and actual visits to healthcare centers. Moreover, the study underscores the potential of libraries to function as information hubs, mirroring health organizations in enhancing the diffusion of health information. Purpose: This qualitative study explores how individuals understand health insurance concepts and make health insurance purchase decisions. The study sought to develop a model of the health insurance decision-making process. Design/methodology/approach: This study used semi-structured interview questions and the micro-moment time-line interview technique with newly hired employees to discuss the steps that individuals follow when making health insurance decisions. The researcher used an open coding approach to analyze the steps listed by each participant, and emergent themes were used to code all interview transcripts in Atlas.ti. Findings: This study identified information tactics used by individuals when evaluating health insurance documentation. The findings also shed light on the personal reflection individuals undertake when making their health insurance choices. Practical implications: The information needs and preferred information sources identified in this study will be of interest to information professionals and human resources officers providing assistance with health insurance enrolment. Distinct challenges exist in the delivery of medical services in correctional facilities, yet little is known about the sources of health information incarcerated patients rely upon to understand and manage their health. Using a nationally representative sample of U.S. incarcerated adults (N = 1,319) from the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, we examine patterns in health information seeking behavior. We find incarcerated persons report television (72.9%) and social contacts (61.8%) as their most common sources of health information and use of magazines and books/brochures is significantly related to better health. We argue that asking incarcerated patients how they get health information and using this knowledge to provide them with health information in formats they will use are important steps toward reducing incarcerated individuals' health disparities.

Crisis motivates people to track news closely, and this increased engagement can expose individuals to politically sensitive information unrelated to the initial crisis. We use the case of the COVID-19 outbreak in China to examine how crisis affects information seeking in countries that normally exert significant control over access to media. The crisis spurred censorship circumvention and access to international news and political content on websites blocked in China. Once individuals circumvented censorship, they not only received more information about the crisis itself but also accessed unrelated information that the regime has long censored. Using comparisons to democratic and other authoritarian countries also affected by early outbreaks, the findings suggest that people blocked from accessing information most of the time might disproportionately and collectively access that long-hidden information during a crisis. Evaluations resulting from this access, negative or positive for a government, might draw on both current events and censored history.

ObjectiveTo explore diverse provider perspectives on: strategies for addressing patient medication cost barriers; patient medication cost information gaps; current medication cost-related informatics tools; and design features for future tool development.Materials and methodsWe conducted 38 semistructured interviews with providers (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and administrators) in a Midwestern health system in the United States. We used 3 rounds of qualitative coding to identify themes.ResultsProviders lacked access to information about: patients' ability to pay for medications; true costs of full medication regimens; and cost impacts of patient insurance changes. Some providers said that while existing cost-related tools were helpful, they contained unclear insurance information and several questioned the information's quality. Cost-related information was not available to everyone who needed it and was not always available when needed. Fragmentation of information across sources made cost-alleviation information difficult to access. Providers desired future tools to compare medication costs more directly; provide quick references on costs to facilitate clinical conversations; streamline medication resource referrals; and provide centrally accessible visual summaries of patient affordability challenges.DiscussionThese findings can inform the next generation of informatics tools for minimizing patients' out-of-pocket costs. Future tools should support the work of a wider range of providers and situations and use cases than current tools do. Such tools would have the potential to improve prescribing decisions and better link patients to resources.ConclusionResults identified opportunities to fill multidisciplinary providers' information gaps and ways in which new tools could better support medication affordability for patients.

BackgroundPublic health is increasingly turning to non-traditional digital data to inform HIV prevention and control strategies. We demonstrate a parsimonious method using both traditional survey and internet search histories to provide new insights into HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) information seeking that can be easily extended to other settings.MethodWe modeled how US internet search volumes from 2019 for HIV testing and PrEP compared against expected search volumes for HIV testing and PrEP using state HIV prevalence and socioeconomic characteristics as predictors. States with search volumes outside the upper and lower bound confidence interval were labeled as either over or under performing. State performance was evaluated by (a) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designation as a hotspot for new HIV diagnoses (b) expanding Medicaid coverage.ResultsTen states over-performed in models assessing information seeking for HIV testing, while eleven states under-performed. Thirteen states over-performed in models assessing internet searches for PrEP information, while thirteen states under-performed. States that expanded Medicaid coverage were more likely to over perform in PrEP models than states that did not expand Medicaid coverage. While states that were hotspots for new HIV diagnoses were more likely to over perform on HIV testing searches.ConclusionOur study derived a method of measuring HIV and PrEP information seeking that is comparable across states. Several states exhibited information seeking for PrEP and HIV testing that deviated from model assessments. Statewide search volume for PrEP information was affected by a state's decision to expand Medicaid coverage. Our research provides health officials with an innovative way to monitor statewide interest in PrEP and HIV testing using a metric for information-seeking that is comparable across states.

Machine learning creates new opportunities to design digital health interventions for youth at risk for acquiring HIV (YARH), capitalizing on YARH's health information seeking on the internet. To date, researchers have focused on descriptive analyses that associate individual factors with health-seeking behaviors, without estimating of the strength of these predictive models. We developed predictive models by applying machine learning methods (i.e., elastic net and lasso regression models) to YARH's self-reports of internet use. The YARH were aged 14-24 years old (N = 1287) from Los Angeles and New Orleans. Models were fit to three binary indicators of YARH's lifetime internet searches for general health, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and social service information. YARH responses regarding internet health information seeking were fed into machine learning models with potential predictor variables based on findings from previous research, including sociodemographic characteristics, sexual and gender minority identity, healthcare access and engagement, sexual behavior, substance use, and mental health. About half of the YARH reported seeking general health and SRH information and 26% sought social service information. Areas under the ROC curve (≥ .75) indicated strong predictive models and results were consistent with the existing literature. For example, higher education and sexual minority identification was associated with seeking general health, SRH, and social service information. New findings also emerged. Cisgender identity versus transgender and non-binary identities was associated with lower odds of general health, SRH, and social service information seeking. Experiencing intimate partner violence was associated with higher odds of seeking general health, SRH, and social service information. Findings demonstrate the ability to develop predictive models to inform targeted health information dissemination strategies but underscore the need to better understand health disparities that can be operationalized as predictors in machine learning algorithms.

The emergence of beauty vloggers is currently a trend in the world of beauty because they can influence skincare or make-up products through video content that is shared. This study intends to find out the information seeking behavior of beauty vloggers in the Trenggalek Regency area to meet information needs in the process of creating video content, as well as the obstacles faced by beauty vloggers in searching for information as an effort to meet information needs in the process of creating video content and how to overcome them. The type of approach used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection technique used was interviews with three beauty vloggers, observation and documentation. As well as data analysis used, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the information seeking behavior model used by beauty vloggers in the Trenggalek Regency area is in accordance with the theory put forward by David Ellis which is divided into 8 stages including Starting, Chaining, Browsing, Differenting, Monitoring, Extracting, Verifying, Ending via whatsapp, tick tock, instagram and google. The results of the study also show the obstacles faced by beauty vloggers which are divided into 2 factors including internal factors in the form of lack of information availability and external factors in the form of inadequate internet networks. However, the constraints from these internal factors can be handled by re-searching information, while external factors can be handled by postponing information search activities and looking for a place that has network access that supports it.

A total of 130 questionnaires were distributed, and 117 valid questionnaires were returned.Results: The mean total score of eHealth literacy among cancer patients was 21.32± 8.35. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that the frequency of searching for health information and education level were significant factors influencing eHealth literacy (p< 0.05). Specifically, the education level (junior high school vs primary school or below) was found to have a significant association with eHealth literacy (beta=0.26, p=0.039).Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the eHealth literacy of cancer patients is relatively low, with low scores on the dimensions of judgment and decision-making ability. Background: The present study introduces informational and supportive needs and sources of obtaining information in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) through a three-round Expert Delphi Consensus Opinions method. Methods: According to our previous scoping review, important items in the area of informational and supportive needs and sources of obtaining information were elucidated. After omitting duplicates, 56 items in informational needs, 36 items in supportive needs, and 36 items in sources of obtaining information were retrieved. Both open- and close-ended questions were designed for each category in the form of three questionnaires. The questionnaires were sent to selected experts from di erent specialties. Experts responded to the questions in the first round. Based on the feedback, questions were modified and sent back to the experts in the second round. This procedure was repeated up to the third round. Results: In the first round, five items from informational needs, one item from supportive needs, and seven items from sources of obtaining information were identified as unimportant and omitted. Moreover, two extra items were proposed by the experts, which were added to the informational needs category. In the second round, seven, three, and seven items frominformational needs, supportive needs, and sources of obtaining information were omitted due to the items being unimportant. In the third round, all the included items gained scores equal to or greater than the average and were identified as important. Kendall coordination coefficient W was calculated to be 0.344 for information needs, 0.330 for supportive needs, and 0.325 for sources of obtaining information, indicating a fair level of agreement between experts. Conclusions: Out of 128 items in the first round, the omission of 30 items and the addition of two items generated a 100-item questionnaire for three sections of informational needs, supportive needs, and sources of obtaining information with a high level of convergence between experts' viewpoints. Treating patients with up-to-date medical knowledge is an ongoing goal for healthcare workers and implies efficient knowledge management at the point of care. Widely available mobile wireless technologies influence practices but a significant gap remains between technological possibilities and actual usage. The purpose of this study was to analyze residents' baseline practices in managing medical knowledge and to evaluate the use and impact of an innovative multiplatform application dedicated to anesthesiology and intensive care residents. This study took place in Rennes Teaching Hospital and comprised two distinct surveys. First, in April 2018, all residents received a ten-items online survey focusing on managing medical knowledge. Then, through a second online survey constituted of ten items, we sought to assess the use of a new multiplatform cloud-based application named "DansMaBlouse", dedicated to sharing and indexing medical knowledge, in anesthesiology and intensive care residents. Among 148 residents that answered the evaluation survey, the most sought out pieces of information in clinical setting were a phone or fax number (74%), drugs' characteristics (68%) and expert guidelines (57%). The main sources were senior staff (68%), medical databases (60%) and an Internet search engine (59%). Computers and smartphones were more frequently used than bound paper notebooks. After implementation of the multiplatform application DansMaBlouse, fifty-nine (82%) of the 72 residents that answered the evaluation survey reported using the application and 39% used it more than ten times. Among application users, 90% found it easy to use and 92% agreed that it improved point-of-care access to knowledge. Accessing appropriate medical knowledge at the point of care remains an issue for residents and can be improved by a multiplatform application combining personal and shared up-to-date resources. Objectives: Safety net clinics (SNC) provide healthcare to vulnerable populations and SNC websites are an important information source. In North Carolina (NC), all 100 counties are Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas, yet 91 of 317 SNCs are non‐dental (ND‐SNC). Our goals were to: (1) assess the presence and type of oral health (OH) information on ND‐SNC websites; (2) develop and distribute an OH education webpage to ND‐SNCs and track its use. Methods: The website search function was used with common dental terms to evaluate the presence of OH content on each ND‐SNC website. Key representatives from ND‐SNCs were surveyed to assess patient care and willingness to implement an OH webpage. Webpage topics included oral hygiene and a map of NC dentists that provide services to low‐income patients. Google Analytics was used to track consumer webpage engagement including acquisition source (AS), average time on page (AT), and unique page views (UPV). Results: Of the 91 ND‐SNCs websites, none contained OH education; 15% had information about nearby dental providers. For the 40 ND‐SNCs using our webpage, January–December 2022, the primary AS for new webpage users was referrals; 72.5% of users visited directly from ND‐SNC websites. Statewide AT was 2 min and 30 s (SD = 58 s), 2.88 times longer than the 52‐s threshold marketing experts use to establish genuine user engagement. There were 1364 UPVs statewide for 2022. Conclusion: Our results suggest a need for OH education content on ND‐SNC websites, as users are searching for and engaging with this information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The open-ended and internally driven nature of curiosity makes characterizing the information seeking that accompanies it a daunting endeavour. We use a historico-philosophical taxonomy of information seeking coupled with a knowledge network building framework to capture styles of information-seeking in 149 participants as they explore Wikipedia for over 5 hours spanning 21 days. We create knowledge networks in which nodes represent distinct concepts and edges represent the similarity between concepts. We quantify the tightness of knowledge networks using graph theoretical indices and use a generative model of network growth to explore mechanisms underlying information-seeking. Deprivation curiosity (the tendency to seek information that eliminates knowledge gaps) is associated with the creation of relatively tight networks and a relatively greater tendency to return to previously visited concepts. With this framework in hand, future research can readily quantify the information seeking associated with curiosity.

Abstract: Objectives: This study was aimed at describing the patterns of searches for information on the prevention and treatment of psychoactive drug use in Mexico, among both the general population and the personnel dedicated to the prevention and treatment of this type of substance use in Mexico. Methods: An exploratory cross-sectional quantitative study was performed with a validated online questionnaire to collect sociodemographic information, background information and self-reported internet search patterns on psychoactive substance use prevention. A chi-square test was used to identify differences between groups, and a classification tree was used to analyze the search patterns. The combinations of the search criteria with the search topics were entered into Google Trends to validate the information. Results: The participants (n = 544 adults) were mostly women (65%), 18–30 years of age and bachelor's degree holders (57%). A total of 32% were students, 59% searched the Internet for drug use prevention or treatment, and 12% professionally engaged in drug use prevention or treatment. Conclusions: Statistically significant differences were found between the general population and professionals dedicated to drug dependency services. We identified six search patterns used in the decision-making process by people seeking information on drug prevention and treatment on the Internet. These patterns were graphically visualized with a classification tree, although, this method did not allow clear differentiation of patterns between groups. The search patterns were successfully validated with Google trends.

BackgroundConsistent with young adults' penchant for digital communication, young adults living with HIV use digital communication media to seek out health information. Understanding the types of health information sought online and the characteristics of these information-seeking young adults is vital when designing digital health interventions for them.ObjectiveThis study aims to describe characteristics of young adults living with HIV who seek health information through the internet. Results will be relevant to digital health interventions and patient education.MethodsYoung adults with HIV (aged 18-34 years) self-reported internet use during an evaluation of digital HIV care interventions across 10 demonstration projects in the United States (N=716). Lasso (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) models were used to select characteristics that predicted whether participants reported seeking general health and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information on the internet during the past 6 months.ResultsAlmost a third (211/716, 29.5%) and a fifth (155/716, 21.6%) of participants reported searching for general health and SRH information, respectively; 26.7% (36/135) of transgender young adults with HIV searched for gender-affirming care topics. Areas under the curve (>0.70) indicated success in building models to predict internet health information seeking. Consistent with prior studies, higher education and income predicted health information seeking. Higher self-reported antiretroviral therapy adherence, substance use, and not reporting transgender gender identity also predicted health information seeking. Reporting a sexual orientation other than gay, lesbian, bisexual, or straight predicted SRH information seeking.ConclusionsYoung adults living with HIV commonly seek both general health and SRH information online, particularly those exploring their sexual identity. Providers should discuss the most commonly sought SRH topics and the use of digital technology and be open to discussing information found online to better assist young adults with HIV in finding accurate information. Characteristics associated with health information-seeking behavior may also be used to develop and tailor digital health interventions for these young adults.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore physicians' use of drug information in professional work, with special focus on those working in primary care, and also in relation to personal characteristics of physicians. Methods: A web-based questionnaire was distributed by e-mail to physicians in five regions in Sweden. The questions concerned drug-related queries at issue when searching for information, sources used, and factors of importance for the choice of source, as well as responder characteristics. Results: A total of 3254 (85%) out of 3814 responding physicians stated that they searched for drug information every week. For physicians working in primary health care, the corresponding number was 585 (96%). The most common drug-related issues searched for by 76% of physicians every week concerned pharmacotherapeutic aspects (e.g., dosing), followed by adverse drug reactions (63%). For 3349 (88%) physicians, credibility was the most important factor for the choice of sources of drug information, followed by easy access online (n = 3127, 82%). Further analyses among physicians in primary care showed that some personal characteristics, like seniority, sex, and country of education, as well as research experience, were associated with usage and preferences of drug information sources. Conclusions: This study confirms that physicians often use drug information sources in professional work, in particular those who work in primary health care. Credibility and easy access are key factors for usage. Among physicians in primary care, personal factors influenced the choice of drug information sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The purpose of this research was to assess the information needs and information seeking behavior of the users of the Regional Science and Technology Information Center (RICEST). Methods: The study applied both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection as a mixed-method. Two hundred thirty-four users participated in the survey and four librarians were interviewed. Results: The findings show that the most information needs of the users were related to scientific activities, writing articles and dissertations, and performing job duties, respectively. The full text of the articles in the RICEST database, more up-to-date scientific sources, reliable sources in non-scientific subjects were among the other needs of the users. Despite the access to resources, more than half of the users faced obstacles in meeting their information needs. The lack of required resources and suitable guide in the database of RICEST and the lack of familiarity with the type and coverage of resources were the most important obstacles. From the users' point of view, Persian scientific publications were evaluated at good quality and other information sources were evaluated at the average level. The findings of the qualitative section showed that the users' needs are in two categories of services and information resources. On the one hand, the librarians considered the obstacles facing the users to be related to the lack of sufficient mastery of the English language, the lack of ability to find information and research methods, and on the other hand, they considered the lack of equipment to serve users with physical or movement problems. Conclusions: This study showed that most information needs of the users of the RICeST are related to their scientific research activities, and their information seeking behaviors are affected by these needs. Despite the range and coverage of the information sources indexed in the RICeST database, most of the users have difficulty in accessing the information. To effectively meet users' information needs, it is necessary to carry out needs assessment studies periodically in the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology (RICeST). The benefits of cancer information-seeking may be particularly salient to individuals impacted by childhood cancer, including patients, caregivers, health professionals, and advocates. The purpose of this study was to explore information-seeking patterns for childhood cancer through the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service (CIS), a multi-channel, bilingual resource for cancer information. The study team conducted descriptive analyses on secondary data characterizing 1820 caregivers, health professionals, organizations, and members of the general public who contacted the CIS about childhood cancer between September 2018 and June 2022. Almost 80% of inquiries about childhood cancer were initiated by caregivers, followed by the public, health professionals, and organizations. Although English was the primary language used by individuals to reach the CIS when discussing childhood cancer, there were variations in points of access (i.e., telephone, instant messaging, email, social media) across the four user groups. Most childhood cancer inquiries were about staging and treatment, and the primary cancer sites discussed by CIS users were neurologic or brain, hematologic, and musculoskeletal cancers. Discussion topics included managing and coping with cancer, clinical trials, and treatment side effects. Just over half (54%) of CIS contacts about childhood cancer resulted in a health professional referral. Findings provide direction for the CIS and other public health organizations to deliver, prioritize, and tailor their services to support the information needs of childhood cancer survivors and their families-as well as those who care and advocate for them-who may have a significant need for credible cancer information. Background: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) affects the quality of life. Patient education and support needs are crucial components of comprehensive chronic illness care. The main purposes of this review were to (i) explore the informational and supportive needs of these patients to improve the quality of life in the existing literature and (ii) identify the gaps related to the needs of the patients in articles. Methods: The scoping review is based on the Daudt methodological framework, a modified version of Arksey and O'Malley. Electronic databases were extensively searched from January 01, 2000 to April 30, 2022. Four electronic databases (PubMed/Medline, CINAHL, APA PsycInfo, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, APA PsycArticles, and ProQuest) were searched using controlled vocabulary, and specific keywords. The searched terms were matched to each database. We manually searched two key journals, namely the Journal of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the Journal of Crohn's and Colitis. Results: In the review, 75 studies on the assessment of the information and support needs of patients with IBD were reviewed. In this regard, 62 and 53 studies were regarding information needs and support needs, respectively. Most of the information needs of patients with IBD reported in the studies were related to diet needs, and educational needs were the most essential support needs Conclusions: Health policymakers and managers can develop care and educational programs related to this disease in health centers according to the needs of the patients. Health professionals, especially gastroenterologists, are the primary referral sources for information on patients. Background: Given the potential for social media to spread health misinformation, it is important to understand how trusts impact adolescents' engagement with health content on social media. Objective: To explore the concept of trust when adolescents (13-18 years) engage with health information on social media. Five relevant databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, ERIC, and CINAHL) were systematically searched alongside Google Scholar and reference lists of included papers. Studies were included if they examined adolescents' trust when engaging with health information on social media. Study Appraisal and Synthesis Methods: Thematic analysis was used to synthesize the findings from this review. Results: Thirty-four papers were included. Three key domains were explored: trust in the social media platform/ service (general distrust of social media for health information; safety and privacy); trust in other users (mistrust of unknown users; fear of bullying or judgment; trust in friends or peers; celebrities and popularity; trust in others' experience and the importance of social support); trust in content (tone and appearance of health information; expertise and verification; advertising, pushed, and suggested content). Limitations: Narrow geographic representation of papers and limited quantitative studies. Conclusions and Implications of Key Findings: Adolescents' trust in health information on social media involves a complex interplay between trust in: social media platforms, other users, and health content. BACKGROUND:Technology is being increasingly used to communicate health information, but there is limited knowledge on whether these strategies are effective for vulnerable populations, including non-English speaking or low-income individuals. OBJECTIVE:This study assessed how language preferences (eg, English, Spanish, or Chinese), smartphone ownership, and the type of clinic for usual source of care (eg, no usual source of care, nonintegrated safety net, integrated safety net, private or community clinic, academic tertiary medical center, or integrated payer-provider) affect technology use for health-related communication. METHODS:From May to September 2017, we administered a nonrandom, targeted survey to 1027 English-, Spanish-, and Chinese-speaking San Francisco residents and used weighted multivariable logistic regression analyses to assess predictors of five technology use outcomes. The three primary predictors of interest-language preference, smartphone ownership, and type of clinic for usual care-were adjusted for age, gender, race or ethnicity, limited English proficiency, educational attainment, health literacy, and health status. Three outcomes focused on use of email, SMS text message, or phone apps to communicate with clinicians. The two other outcomes were use of Web-based health videos or online health support groups. RESULTS:Nearly one-third of participants watched Web-based health videos (367/1027, 35.74%) or used emails to communicate with their clinician (318/1027, 30.96%). In adjusted analyses, individuals without smartphones had significantly lower odds of texting their clinician (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.27, 95% CI 0.13-0.56), using online health support groups (aOR 0.14, 95% CI 0.04-0.55), or watching Web-based health videos (aOR 0.31, 95% CI 0.15-0.64). Relative to English-speaking survey respondents, individuals who preferred Chinese had lower odds of texting their clinician (aOR 0.25, 95% CI 0.08-0.79), whereas Spanish-speaking survey respondents had lower odds of using apps to communicate with clinicians (aOR 0.34, 95% CI 0.16-0.75) or joining an online support group (aOR 0.30, 95% CI 0.10-0.92). Respondents who received care from a clinic affiliated with the integrated safety net, academic tertiary medical center, or integrated payer-provider systems had higher odds than individuals without a usual source of care at using emails, SMS text messages, or apps to communicate with clinicians. CONCLUSIONS:In vulnerable populations, smartphone ownership increases the use of many forms of technology for health purposes, but device ownership itself is not sufficient to increase the use of all technologies for communicating with clinicians. Language preference impacts the use of technology for health purposes even after considering English proficiency. Health system factors impact patients' use of technology-enabled approaches for communicating with clinicians. No single factor was associated with higher odds of using technology for all health purposes; therefore, existing disparities in the use of digital health tools among diverse and vulnerable populations can only be addressed using a multipronged approach.

This study monitored online posts from readers seeking specific health information on a social media platform to evaluate the volume of information requests, whether readers sought an initial or second opinion for diagnosis, and the amount of response time before a reply answer was sent.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and cyberchondria and to find out the mediating role of anxiety sensitivity in this relationship. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2021 to January 2022 at Bahauddin Zakariyya University, Multan, Pakistan. Participants ranging in age from 18 to 55 years were selected through purposive sampling techniques from different cities of Southern Punjab. Participants who actively use social mediums for online information-seeking of disease-related symptoms were included in the study and participants who confirmed having a physical or psychological health condition were excluded. Cyberchondria, anxiety sensitivity index-3, and intolerance of uncertainty scale were used for measurement. The data were analyzed using structural equation modelling. RESULTS: Out of 413 participants, 148 (42%) were males and 265 (64.2%) were females. Majority (n=188/413; 45.6%) spent >5 hours on net. Main symptoms searched on internet were psychological (n=61; 14.8%), Physiological (n=175; 42.4%) and both (n=177; 42.8%). Correlation metrics showed that intolerance of uncertainty has a moderate positive correlation with anxiety sensitivity (r=0.59) and cyberchondria (r =-0.41). Similarly, anxiety sensitivity is also positively correlated with cyberchondria (r=0.38). Results further revealed that intolerance of uncertainty has a significant impact on cyberchondria (β=0.48, R2=0.30). Anxiety sensitivity significantly mediates the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and cyberchondria among the general population (β=0.64, R2=0.41) (β=0.25, R2=0.26). CONCLUSION: A significant positive relation exists between intolerance of uncertainty, cyberchondria, and anxiety sensitivity. Intolerance of uncertainty significantly impacts cyberchondria. Anxiety sensitivity significantly mediates the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and cyberchondria.
