In 2014, the World Health Organization introduced a new histologic classification by dividing primary mucinous ovarian carcinoma (PMOC) into two: expansile (ES) or infiltrative subtypes (IS). This study investigated the clinical implications of these histological subtypes on survival outcomes. Data from 131 patients with PMOC who underwent primary surgery between 2003 and 2021 were analyzed. The patients baseline characteristics, surgical and pathological information were collected. Survival outcomes were calculated, while factors affecting them were also investigated. During 55.9 months of median follow-up, 27 (20.6%) patients experienced recurrence and 20 (15.3%) died. Among 131 patients, 113 patients were classified into 87 (77%) ES and 26 (23%) IS after a slide review. Advanced stage, lymph node involvement, and residual tumors after surgery were more common in the IS, showing poorer prognosis. In multivariate analyses, advanced stage and residual tumors after surgery were associated with worse survival, while the IS showed no statistical significance. In subgroup analysis for stage I disease, survival did not vary between subtypes. Nevertheless, patients in the IS group who underwent fertility-sparing surgeries demonstrated a 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate of 83.3%, significantly lower than patients without fertility preservation, irrespective of histologic subtypes (5-year PFS rate: 97.9%; P = 0.002 for the ES, 5-year PFS rate: 100%; P = 0.001 for the IS). The IS of PMOC had poorer survival outcomes and a higher proportion of advanced-stage tumors. Although its independent prognostic significance remains uncertain, adjuvant chemotherapy should be considered for patients with fertility preservation in the IS group. • The infiltrative subtype is known to be more aggressive than the expansile subtype in primary mucinous ovarian carcinoma. • The infiltrative subtype showed worse survival than the expansile subtype, with a higher proportion of advanced stage tumors. • In stage I disease, there was no difference in survival between the two histologic subtypes due to its excellent survival. • Fertility sparing surgery appears to be an important prognostic factor for progression-free survival in stage I disease. • It remains uncertain if the infiltrative subtype is an independent prognostic factor. Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) may present with or without perineural invasion (PNI). We reviewed BCC for PNI by subtype, microscopic tumor surface diameter, invasion depth, and anatomic site. Method: Consecutive excisions were prospectively collected in an Australian center 2016‐2018. Results: Total cases were 3005 including 40 with PNI: 28 in males, 12 in females. Superficial and nodular subtypes had no PNI. As the percentage tumor mass of infiltrative BCC increased beyond 90% the presence of PNI substantially escalated (OR7.0). Comparing PNI absent or present the respective maximum mean tumor microscopic surface diameters ranged from (95%CI [9.6‐10.0] P <.001) to 11.2 mm (95%CI [9.4‐13.0] P =.59). Respective maximum mean invasion depths were from 1.0 mm (95%CI [0.98‐1.05] P <.001) to 2.3 mm (95%CI [1.8‐2.7] P <.001). Respective maximum mean invasion depths were from 1.0 mm (95%CI [0.98‐1.05] P <.001) to 2.3 mm (95%CI [1.8‐2.7] P <.001) to 2.3 mm (95%CI[1.8‐2.7] P <.001). Males recorded most PNI on the scalp, followed by cheek and chin. Patients with more than two BCC cases had a greater proportional PNI risk (OR3.7). Mean PNI nerve diameters were 0.06 mm2 (males) and 0.03 mm2 (females). Conclusion: Increases in percentage infiltrative subtype within the tumor mass, microscopic tumor diameter, tumor invasion depth, and BCC cases per patient all recorded more PNI. Patients and methods: We retrospectively recruited 4,080 stage I–III CRC patients who underwent curative resection at Shandong Provincial Hospital affiliated to Shandong University. All patients were grouped by macroscopic growth patterns (expansive, infiltrative and ulcerative subtypes), and stage III patients were further divided into chemotherapy and nonchemotherapy groups. Kaplan–Meier methods, univariate and multivariate analyses and subset analyses were performed to assess the overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Results: Kaplan–Meier survival curves and univariate analyses revealed better OS (HR=0.731; 95% CI=0.584–0.916), CSS (HR=0.714; 95% CI=0.548–0.932) and DFS (HR=0.722; 95% CI=0.602–0.864) in the expansive subtype and worse OS (HR=2.121; 95% CI=1.457–3.088), CSS (HR=2.499; 95% CI=1.664–3.753) and DFS (HR=2.360; 95% CI=1.756–3.170) in the infiltrative subtype. Subset analyses based on the tumor–node–metastasis stage showed that the infiltrative subtype was associated with inferior DFS in stage II (HR=2.357; 95% CI=1.210–4.595) and stage III patients (HR=1.941; 95% CI=1.394–2.702) and inferior OS and CSS in stage III patients (HR=1.805; 95% CI=1.210–2.693 and HR=1.981, 95% CI=1.280–3.065, respectively).
