Simple Summary: Since the arrival of Tuta absoluta, a multivoltine insect species whose larvae develop in leaves, fruits, flowers, buds, and stems of tomatoes, producers are facing one of its biggest production challenges. The pest continues to invade new areas, causing heavy losses in the tomato value chain. Sprays of synthetic insecticides have shown very low efficacy on this pest because of its inclination to develop resistance to various insecticide-active ingredients. Biological control is one of the most promising solutions for the management of this pest. In this work, we investigated the most efficient indigenous parasitoids associated with T. absoluta in Kenya and their preferable habitat and ecological niche suitability. We identified two species, Stenomesius sp. near japonicus and Bracon nigricans, with up to 17% and 21% parasitism respectively. Stenomesius sp. near japonicus was more abundant in greenhouses and non-insecticide-treated tomatoes while B. nigricans was more abundant in the field tomatoes with a low abundance of Nesidiocoris tenuis. The ecological niche of these two species showed that B. nigricans was suitable for establishment in sub-Saharan Africa, a big part of South America, and Australia in both current and future scenarios. The predicted occurrence of parasitoid species indicated vast suitable areas for B. nigricans in sub-Saharan Africa, Australia, and South America. Low suitability was observed for S. sp. nr japonicus in Africa. The olive leaf gall midge is a serious insect pest on olive trees in the Palestinian Territories. It induces galls on the leaves and other vegetative organs of olive trees causing reduction in the yield. The main objectives of the present study were to determine the infestation rate with Dasineura oleae on olive trees cultivated over variable altitudes in the Palestinian Territories, to identify the indigenous parasitoids of D. oleae and to determine the overall rates of parasitism by the identified parasitoids on D. oleae. Results indicated that the infestation rates with D. oleae varied significantly depending on the altitudes of sampling sites ranging from 12.1 to 52.7% at 635 and 229 m above sea level (a.s.l.), respectively. Two species of indigenous hymenopterous parasitoids on D. oleae were identified: Platygaster oleae Szelenyi (Platygastridae) and Zeytinus hatayensis Doğanlar (Eulophidae) (new record for the Palestinian Territories). The overall rates of parasitism by the identified parasitoids varied significantly with the altitude of the sampling sites from 12.6% (Assira El-Shamalieh, 635 m a.s.l.) to 55.5% (Aljarochia, 102 m a.s.l.). Partitioning of the overall rates of parasitism between the identified parasitoids indicated that P. oleae was found at all sampling sites (82 to 635 m a.s.l.) with proportions of 60.8–100%, whereas Z. hatayensis with proportions of 0–39.1% and was not found at altitudes above 492 m a.s.l. African governments adopted emergency actions around chemical insecticides, with limited efforts to assess the richness or roles of indigenous natural enemies. Field surveys and laboratory studies were conducted to identify and assess the performance of parasitoids associated with spodopterans in Cameroon. FAW was the most abundant spodopteran pest. Telenomus remus (Nixon), Trichogramma chilonis (Ishi), Charops sp. (Szépligeti), Coccygidium luteum (Cameron), Cotesia icipe (Fernandez & Fiaboe), and Cotesia sesamiae (Cameron) are the first records in the country on spodopterans. Telenomus remus, T. chilonis, C. icipe, and Charops sp. were obtained from both FAW and SAW; C. luteum and C. sesamiae from FAW. The distribution of spodopterans, their endoparasitoids, and parasitism rates varied with host, season and location. In the laboratory, T. remus showed significantly higher parasitism on FAW than SAW, and significant differences in the development parameters between the two host eggs, with shorter development time on FAW. It induced significant non-reproductive mortality on FAW but not on SAW. Developmental parameters showed that C. icipe has a shorter development time compared to other larval parasitoids. Implications for conservative and augmentative biocontrol are discussed.

The careful selection of parasitoids with a track record of success in similar environmental conditions may increase the likelihood of effective biocontrol. Diamondback moth (DBM) population and level of parasitism were assessed for three years prior to the release ofDiadegma semiclausum(Hellén) in June 2008. Thereafter, the DBM population and severity of crop damage and the occurrence ofD. semiclausumand indigenous DBM parasitoids were monitored by monthly surveys during the main production season of June to December for three years. Before release, DBM numbers fluctuated between 4.2 and 11.2 per plant and parasitism ranged between 6.5 and 24.7%. DBM density declined to 2.8, 0.9 and 0.7 per plant whilst parasitism levels increased successively to 21, 39 and 38% in 2008, 2009 and 2010, respectively. A significant shift in parasitoid guild was observed afterD. semiclausumrelease: it comprised 18.6, 80.3 and 88.6% of total parasitism in the first, second and third year, respectively. The decline of DBM density following the release of the introduced parasitoid and its establishment will ensure production ofBrassicaspp. without pesticide use against DBM in the affected area. Simple Summary: Fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, was reported in Cameroon for the first time in 2017 and by the end of 2018; the pest was found all over the country. Cameroon is among the first countries in Africa where the southern armyworm (SAW), Spodoptera eridania, another economical important armyworm was reported. The African governments adopted emergency actions around chemical insecticides despite the range of economic and health risks associated with chemical control. This work aims at identifying parasitoids (natural enemies) of armyworms and test their acceptability, suitability, and host range on Spodoptera spp., that can play a significant role in the sustainable management of these spodopterans. Field surveys conducted lead to the identification of two egg and four larval parasitoids. The fall armyworm was the predominant spodopteran. Laboratory studies were conducted to assess the performance of parasitoids associated with both pests in Cameroon. T. remus showed significantly higher parasitism on FAW than SAW, with significantly shorter development time on FAW, while inducing significant non-reproductive mortality on FAW. Fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), is a polyphagous pest invaded India and seriously threatened maize and other crops. The detailed information on its occurrence and damage severity in the invaded regions are limited. In this study, we assessed the occurrence, incidence and damage severity of fall armyworm in 126 maize fields in 10 districts of Karnataka during the rainfed condition. Further, potential co-occurrence of this pest with native stem borers and its natural enemies explored to tackle this pest. Survey reports revealed that the fall armyworm was well distributed across the maize growing regions of Karnataka with 44–100% field infestation. The damage incidence of S. frugiperda was 22.13–46.83% with damage severity 0 to 4.9 on the 0 to 9 scale. The larval count was 0.93 ± 0.17 to 3.07 ± 0.58 per 10 plants across the locations. The co-occurrence of S. frugiperda with the native maize stem borers, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) and Sesamia inferens (Walker) was less than 5% of the plants. It shows that S. frugiperda had dominated the native stem borers causing significant damage to maize. This study found five parasitoids parasitizing the egg, egg-larval, larval and larval-pupal stages of S. frugiperda. Trichogramma chilonis Ishii and Telenomus remus Nixon egg parasitism rates were 15.81–23.87% and 5.44–8.78%, respectively. The larval parasitoids caused 9.18% parasitism of S. frugiperda larvae. Trichogramma chilonis appeared as a major natural enemy. These data provide an important baseline for the development of sustainable management strategies for S. frugiperda. • The damage incidence and severity of invasive S. frugiperda was 22.13–46.83% and 3.0 to 4.9 on 0–9 scale in rainfed maize. • The co-occurrence of S. frugiperda with C. partellus and S. inferens was less than 5% and alone occurrence was more than 90%. • Five species of parasitoids recorded on S. frugiperda , among them T. chilonis was more dominant with 23.87% egg parasitism. . 1. Biological invasions of exotic species pose a major threat to native biodiversity. Invaders are known to have direct impacts on native species; however, less well studied are the indirect impacts mediated through the integration of invaders into trophically linked communities. 2. A survey of the chalcid wasp parasitoid community attacking the chestnut gallwasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus was carried out over a 5-year period at 26 sites in north-western Italy. More than 415 000 galls were collected and more than 10 000 parasitoid specimens emerged. Twenty-seven parasitoid species belonging to six families (Eurytomidae, Pteromalidae, Torymidae, Eupelmidae, Ormyridae, Eulophidae) were identified using morphological and molecular methods; seventeen are new records for the parasitoid community associated with D. kuriphilus in Italy. The morphospecies complexes Megastigmus dorsalis, Eupelmus urozonus, E. annulatus, and Eurytoma pistaciae were the dominant species; another six morphospecies were encountered regularly but at low frequency; and 13 species were recorded only occasionally. The attack rate of any individual parasitoid species was low, although the more common species appeared to be increasing their use of this novel host. 3. Biases observed in the sex ratios of parasitoids emerging from D. kuriphilus galls suggest that parasitoid individuals are making life-history decisions to take advantage of the high abundance of this host. Overall, these patterns imply that there is an ongoing transfer of parasitoids between oak and chestnut galls, and hence a high potential for this invading species to have a major impact on native oak gall communities via indirect competition mediated through shared parasitoids.
