Maxillofacial reconstruction surgery involves restoring bones or skeletal structures in areas such as the mouth, jaw, and face using bones like the iliac crest and fibula. This surgery requires a high level of difficulty and precision, necessitating extensive practice and accurate 3D model simulations. However, due to limitations in training environments, opportunities for sufficient practice are restricted, and the precision of simulations may be compromised by the limitations of existing tools. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a maxillofacial reconstruction surgery simulator utilizing virtual reality technology. The proposed method allows users to explore a virtual space through a head-mounted display, where they can visualize, navigate, and manipulate bone models (move and rotate) using the joystick and buttons of a controller, as well as perform resection operations. Additionally, to verify the effectiveness of the simulator, performance evaluation is conducted through frame per second and resource usage analysis, usability testing is performed via questionnaires with dental students, and accuracy validation is carried out for the reconstruction models. Introduction: Osteochondromas are benign tumors that arise primarily in the metaphyseal region of long bones. The malignant transformation rate is estimated to be less than 1% and 1–3% in solitary and multiple osteochondromas, respectively. Transformation to osteosarcoma is very rare. Little information is available on treatment or outcome. A rare case of osteosarcoma arising from hereditary multiple osteochondromas of the right iliac bone is reported. Case Presentation: A 66-year-old woman presented with recurrent right abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) showed a mass protruding into the pelvic cavity, 9 cm × 7 cm × 7 cm, with bone destruction and internal calcification in the right iliac bone. A CT-guided biopsy was performed, and the diagnosis was osteosarcoma. After one course of chemotherapy with doxorubicin and ifosfamide, extensive resection of the tumor was performed. The pathology showed proliferation of highly pleomorphic dysplastic cells with bone formation inside the tumor just below the osteochondroma tissue, which led to the diagnosis of osteosarcoma arising from the osteochondroma. Three years after surgery, there was no evidence of recurrence or metastasis, and the patient was able to walk unassisted. Conclusion: A case of osteosarcoma arising from an iliac lesion of hereditary multiple osteochondromas was described. Although no recurrence or metastasis has been observed 3 years after surgery, further follow-up is necessary due to the short time after surgery.

Abstract Background This study aims to measure and compare the differences in vertical bone resorption after vertical augmentation using different types of autologous block bone. Methods Data were collected from 38 patients who had undergone vertical ridge augmentation using an autologous block bone before implant insertion. The patients were divided into three groups based on the donor sites: ramus bone (RB), chin bone (CB), and iliac crestal bone (IB). Results The surgical outcome of the augmentation was evaluated at the follow-up periods up to 60 months. In 38 patients, the mean amount of vertical bone gain was 8.36 ± 1.51 mm in the IB group, followed by the RB group (4.17 ± 1.31 mm) and the CB group (3.44 ± 1.08 mm). PurposePrevious studies have confirmed the advantages and disadvantages of autogenous iliac bone and nano-hydroxyapatite/polyamide 66 (n-HA/PA66) cage. However, there is no conclusive comparison between the efficacy of the two implant materials in spinal tuberculosis bone graft fusion. The aim of this study was to analyze the mid-to long-term clinical and radiologic outcomes between n-HA/PA66 cage and autogenous iliac bone for anterior reconstruction application of spinal defect for thoracolumbar tuberculosis.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed all patients who underwent anterior debridement and strut graft with n-HA/PA66 cage or iliac bone combined with anterior instrumentations between June 2009 and June 2014. One-to-one nearest-neighbor propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match patients who underwent n-HA/PA66 cage to those who underwent iliac bone. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) and visual analogue score (VAS). Radiographic evaluations included cage subsidence and segmental angle.ResultsAt the end of the PSM analysis, 16 patients from n-HA/PA66 cage group were matched to 16 patients in Iliac bone group. The C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) values in the n-HA/PA66 group decreased significantly from 33.19 ± 10.89 and 46.63 ± 15.65 preoperatively, to 6.56 ± 2.48 and 9.31 ± 3.34 at the final follow-up, respectively (p < 0.001). There were no significant differences in the CRP and ESR values between the two groups at the final follow-up. The VAS and JOA scores in the iliac bone and n-HA/PA66 group were significantly improved at the 3-month follow-up postoperatively (both p < 0.001). Then, improvements of VAS and JOA scores continue long at final follow-up. However, there were no significant differences in the VAS and JOA scores at any time point between the two groups (p > 0.05). Although the segmental angle (SA) significantly increased after surgery in both groups, there was no significant difference at any time point after surgery (p > 0.05). There were no significant differences in the cage subsidence and fusion time between the two groups.ConclusionOverall, our data suggest that the n-HA/PA66 cage outcomes are comparable to those in the autogenous iliac bone, with a similar high fusion rate as autogenous iliac bone.

Background: Thoracolumbar vertebral fracture is the most common type of thoracolumbar vertebral fracture. For the patients with severe thoracolumbar vertebral burst fracture and neurological impairment, surgical decompression and reconstruction of spinal stability is an important intervention method, however, there is still controversy on the way of postoperative stability reconstruction. Objective: This study was to investigate the efffcacy of posterior open reduction, pedicle screw ffxation, and autogenous iliac bone graft fusion in the treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures with neurological impairment. Methods: The clinical data of 43 patients with thoracolumbar single vertebral burst fracture with neurological function injury treated in our department from January 2016 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score of lumbothoracic pain, the occupying rate of spinal canal, the ratio of the anterior height of the injured vertebral body to the normal height, Cobb angle, and the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) classiffcation of neurological function were compared before and after operation. All patients completed the procedure successfully. Results: Bone graft fusion was achieved in all patients, and no screw or rod was broken. The VAS score of thoracolumbar pain, the ratio of the anterior height of the injured vertebral body to the normal height, and the Cobb angle were signiffcantly lower than those before operation at 1 and 12 months after operation (P < 0.001). There was no signiffcant difference in the VAS score of thoracolumbar pain, the ratio of the anterior height of the injured vertebral body to the normal height, and the Cobb angle between 1 and 12 months after operation. The occupying rate of spinal canal 6 months after operation was lower than that before operation (12.02% ±7.35% vs. 46.98% ±9.26%), and the difference was statistically signiffcant (t = 20.066, P < 0.05). There was a signiffcant difference in ASIA classiffcation of neurological function between 12 months after operation and before operation (Z = -5.372, P < 0.001). The neurological function was signiffcantly improved 12 months after operation. Conclusion: Reconstruction of vertebral lamina with iliac bone graft is an effective method for the treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures, which can reduce the loss of vertebral height and recurrent kyphosis and avoid the neurological impairment caused by secondary spinal stenosis. The most common postoperative complications included neurosensory disturbance in the CB graft and gait disturbance in the IB graft. Out of the 92 implants inserted after augmentation, four implants were lost during the study period, resulting in an implant success rate of 95.65%. Conclusions: The RB graft might be the most suitable option for vertical augmentation in terms of maintaining postoperative vertical height and reducing morbidity, although the initial gain was greater with the IB graft compared to other block bones. Background: Maxillary/mandibular bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MBMSCs) exhibit a unique property of lower adipogenic potential than other bone marrow-derived MSCs. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating the adipogenesis of MBMSCs remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the roles of mitochondrial function and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in regulating the adipogenesis of MBMSCs. Methods and results: MBMSCs exhibited significantly lower lipid droplet formation than iliac BMSCs (IBMSCs). Moreover, the expression levels of CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein β (C/EBPβ), C/EBPδ, and early B cell factor 1 (Ebf-1), which are early adipogenic transcription factors, and those of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) and C/EBPα, which are late adipogenic transcription factors, were downregulated in MBMSCs compared to those in IBMSCs. Adipogenic induction increased the mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial biogenesis in MBMSCs and IBMSCs, with no significant difference between the two cell types; however, intracellular ROS production was significantly enhanced only in IBMSCs. Furthermore, NAD(P)H oxidase 4 (NOX4) expression was significantly lower in MBMSCs than in IBMSCs. Increased ROS production in MBMSCs by NOX4 overexpression or treatment with menadione promoted the expression of early adipogenic transcription factors but did not induce that of late adipogenic transcription factors or lipid droplet accumulation. Conclusions: These results suggest that ROS may be partially involved in the process of MBMSC adipogenic differentiation from undifferentiated cells to immature adipocytes. Abstract Background Many surgeons have reported results similar to those of anterior debridement and bone grafting in treating spinal tuberculosis in the lumbar region using only a posterior approach. However, there is still no consensus regarding bone graft methods. This study aims to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of morselized versus structural iliac bone grafts in the treatment of lumbar tuberculosis via one-stage posterior surgery. Methods A retrospective study was performed with 82 patients with lumbar tuberculosis who had undergone posterior-only debridement, bone grafting, and instrumentation between January 2014 and June 2018. Morselized bone grafts were used in 43 patients, whereas structural iliac bone grafts were used in 39 patients. The clinical data and imaging results of the patients were compared between the two groups to evaluate the clinical effects of the two types of grafts. Results The operation time, blood loss and hospital stay values in the morselized bone group were significantly lower than those in the structural iliac bone group (p 0.05). Bone fusion was achieved in 41 patients (95%) in the morselized bone group and 38 patients (97%) in the structural iliac bone group. There was no significant difference between the fusion rates of the two groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion The two graft techniques achieved comparable clinical outcomes in lumbar spinal tuberculosis treatment. However, the morselized bone graft was more beneficial in terms of reducing surgical trauma and postoperative complications.

Although sarcoid-like reactions are uncommon in colorectal cancer, they can coexist with other cancers. We herein report a 50-year-old woman with sigmoid adenocarcinoma and osseous sarcoid-like reactions that resembled metastases. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography revealed an uptake in the iliac bone and para-aortic lymph nodes. The depth of invasion indicates non-metastatic lesions. Bone and lymph node biopsies revealed epithelioid non-caseating granulomas with bone trabeculae, resulting in a final diagnosis of pathological T2N2aM0, Stage IIIB. When the expected depth of invasion differs from that of typical bone metastases, colorectal cancer-associated bone lesions should be evaluated for sarcoid-like reactions.

Abstract Background Talar cartilage injury is a kind of disease that causes long-term and chronic pain of ankle joint. Autologous osteochondral transplantation has been viewed as an alternative choice for treating these lesions, but donor-site morbidity has limited its application. This study aimed to analyze the efficacy of iliac bone autografting for Hepple V osteochondral lesions of the talus. Methods This retrospective study included 32 patients surgically treated for Hepple V osteochondral lesions of the talus from January 2015 to January 2020. All patients underwent open surgery. Ipsilateral iliac bone grafts were taken and filled with talar cartilage injury area. The improvement of postoperative ankle pain was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the improvement of ankle function was evaluated by the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). During the postoperative follow-up, X-ray examination of the front and side of the ankle joint and CT of the ankle joint were performed to evaluate the bone cartilage healing in the graft area. Results Thirty-two patients (32 ankles) (100%) returned for clinical and radiologic follow-up at an average of 28 (range 24–36) months postoperatively. At 3 months postoperatively and at the last follow-up, the AOFAS scores were (80.4 ± 3.6) and (89.2 ± 6.4), respectively, which were significantly improved compared with the preoperative score (49.7 ± 8.1), and the difference was statistically significant (P

Abstract Background Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) can be isolated from numerous tissues and are attractive candidates for therapeutic clinical applications due to their immunomodulatory and pro-regenerative capacity. Although the minimum criteria for defining MSCs have been defined, their characteristics are known to vary depending on their tissue of origin. Results We isolated and characterized human MSCs from three different bones (ilium (I-MSCs), maxilla (Mx-MSCs) and mandible (Md-MSCs)) and proceeded with next generation RNA-sequencing. Furthermore, to investigate the gene expression profiles among other cell types, we obtained RNA-seq data of human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and several types of MSCs (periodontal ligament-derived MSCs, bone marrow-derived MSCs, and ESCs-derived MSCs) from the Sequence Reads Archive and analyzed the transcriptome profile. We found that MSCs derived from tissues of the maxillofacial region, such as the jaw bone and periodontal ligament, were HOX-negative, while those derived from other tissues were HOX-positive. We also identified that MSX1, LHX8, and BARX1, an essential regulator of craniofacial development, were strongly expressed in maxillofacial tissue-derived MSCs. Although MSCs may be divided into two distinct groups, the cells originated from over the neck or not, on the basis of differences in gene expression profile, the expression patterns of all CD antigen genes were similar among different type of MSCs, except for ESCs. Conclusions Our findings suggest that MSCs from different anatomical locations, despite meeting general characterization criteria, have remarkable differences in gene expression and positional memory. Although stromal cells from different anatomical sources are generally categorized as MSCs, their differentiation potential and biological functions vary. We suggested that MSCs may retain an original tissue memory about the developmental process, including gene expression profiles. This could have an important impact when choosing an appropriate cell source for regenerative therapy using MSCs.

The patients who received trapdoor-procedure-based bone harvesting (34 cases) were in the experimental group, and those who received tricortical iliac bone harvesting (31 cases) were in the control group. This study compared differences in iliac bone-graft donor site incision length, intraoperative blood loss, amount of bones harvested, operation time, and postoperative complications between the two bone-harvesting methods. Subsequently, it evaluated the pain experienced by the two patient groups in their iliac bone-graft donor sites and their clinical effects.Results: One week after surgery, the differences between the iliac bone-graft donor site pain score (measured using SF-MPQ-2) of the experimental group and the control group were not statistically different. However, 3 weeks, 5 weeks, and 3 months after surgery, the iliac bone-graft donor site pain scores of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group. The iliac bone-graft donor site incision length and operation time of the experimental group were not significantly different from those of the control group. However, the iliac bone-graft donor site intraoperative blood loss, amount of bones harvested and the incidence of complications of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group.Conclusion: Trapdoor-procedure-based bone harvesting has lower donor site pain, intraoperative blood loss, and postoperative complications. All patients had no pain at the donor site. No complications occurred in 32 patients at the last follow-up. Conclusions: With iliac bone autografting for Hepple V osteochondral lesions of the talus can effectively relieve ankle joint pain and significantly improved ankle function. A 54-years-old woman suffered from a bilateral pelvic and lumbar pain. She had a systemic investigation shows a diffuse bone lesions. A biopsy of iliac bone was done and revealed sarcoidosis. Bony manifestations of sarcoidosis are rare and challenging to diagnose. Our report shows that MRI with diffusion weighted sequences is a simple and non invasive technique to evaluate bone infiltration. It helps to distinguish inflammatory disease from metastatic lesions and to guide the osseous biopsy. Moreover, fluorodeoxyglucose PET scan, are useful in establishing the extent of damage and measuring disease activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We aimed to clarify the iliac anatomy in developmental dysplasia of the hip using three-dimensional computed tomography. The distance between two points along each anatomical portion of the ilium, including the acetabular center, were compared between patients in the dysplasia and control groups. There were no significant differences in the upper part of the ilium between the groups. However, three distances that included the acetabular center were significantly shorter in the dysplasia group than in the control group. Our study suggests that bone dysplasia occurs in the ilium near the acetabulum, not in the iliac wings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we aimed to provide guidance for selecting bone grafting materials in cases of alveolar clefts. Twenty-nine patients with unilateral complete alveolar clefts were categorized into three groups based on the bone grafting material used: Group A (iliac bone block grafts), Group B (iliac cancellous bone grafts), and Group C (chin bone block grafts). Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data were analyzed using Mimics 19.0 software. Results showed that Group A had the highest bone formation rate, with significant differences observed between Groups A and B, as well as between Groups B and C. Group A and Group C had the highest proportion of Type I in volume assessment, while Group B had the highest proportion of Type III, Significant differences were observed in the distribution of volume assessment scores among the three groups. Bone height measurement results indicated that buccal-side measurement points had a higher proportion of Type I bone height than palatal-side measurement points. Bone width measurement results showed that Type I bone width was highest in Group C, while Type IV bone width was highest in Group B. Significant differences were observed in the distribution of implanted bone width among the three groups. Total grafting scores indicated that Types A and D were predominant in Groups A and C, while Group B had the highest proportion of Type D. Significant differences were observed in the distribution of total grafting scores among the three groups. The comprehensive evaluation method provides accurate assessment of alveolar cleft bone grafting outcomes and is applicable in clinical settings. Based on the results, we consider both iliac bone blocks and chin bone blocks as suitable materials for alveolar cleft bone grafting. Patients with tooth loss in the posterior mandible,requiring dental implantation, mayalso require other simultaneous surgical procedures due to severe atrophy, such as nerve lateralization. However, it is difficult to achieve the appropriate width and height in this area in patients with atrophic ridges. In the present case, we performed inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) repositioning and iliac bone grafting simultaneously to achieve satisfactory width and height in an edentulous adult patient with insufficient bone height and width in the posterior mandible. The follow-up did not indicateany nerve damage, anda significant increase was observed in the bone height, which facilitated successful implantation. This study showed the feasibility of IAN repositioning withsimultaneous iliac bone autogenous grafting for thetreatment of atrophic posterior mandibular ridges. Background: Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have a wide application in domain of Regenerative Medicine. Of a great importance is utilization of a suitable bone marrow extraction technique that can provide a sufficient number of MSC to perform laboratory tests without seriously affecting the health of the laboratory animal. At the same time, before using in researches and clinical application, the MSC needs to be identified. Material and methods: The study was conducted in rabbits (n = 9), in which, from one iliac bone, by aspiration were taken 3.39 ± 1.27 ml of bone marrow. The nucleated bone marrow cells were separated through centrifugation using concentration gradient. The specific for stem cells culture medium was used, and MSC were multiplied during 2 passages. From the obtained MSC, 1x106 cells were subject to differentiation by chondrocytes lineage for other 20 days. The obtained chondrocytes aggregates were morphologically examined by Hematoxylin–Eosin staining and specific cartilage staining with Safranin O and Toluidine blue/fast green. Results: There was a strong correlation between the volume of collected bone marrow and the time required to achieve a 70-80% of MSC confluence (p=0.01). Also, the MSC isolated from bone marrow extracted from rabbit iliac bone were differentiated successful on chondrocyte line in all cases, confirmed through the specific cartilage staining with Safranin O and Toluidine blue/fast green (p

The problem of crack propagation in human bone is studied. We for- mulate and solve the mathematical problem for the pre-stressed crack in Mode I of classical fracture. Using the boundary conditions on the crack faces in the bone, regarded as an elastic composite material, we solve our Riemann-Hilbert problem. Using generalized Sih's strain energy density generalized and maximum stress criteria we find the direction of the crack path in Iliac bone, regarded as a pre-stressed orthotropic composite.

Introduction:- Scientific determination of age of an individual is required for the law enforcement agencies in both civil and criminal matters. Aims and Objects:- Statistical study on the appearance and fusion of ossification centers of iliac crust among natives of Ajmer region and comparative study between both sexes. Material and Method:- This prospective study has been conducted on 102 subject (48 males and 54 females) of the Ajmer region in Rajasthan of known age group between 13-21 years in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in J.L.N. Medical College and Associated Hospitals, Ajmer between 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020. Inclusion Criteria:- Cases whom parents are born at Ajmer region. Case subjects are also residing at Ajmer since birth, consented for study Exclusion Criteria 1. They should not be with any physical disability, congenital, nutritional or endocrinal anomaly. 2. Person should have accurate record of their birth date. Observation:- In Males appearance of iliac crest in present study was found at the age 15 yrs age in all cases. Simultaneously fusion of iliac crest was found at the age of 19.3 yrs in 100% cases. Similarly In female's appearance of iliac crest in present study was found at the age 14.2 yrs age in 100% cases. Similarly fusion of iliac crest was found in majority of cases appeared at the age of 19 yrs in all cases. Background: Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) can be isolated from numerous tissues and are attractive candidates for therapeutic clinical applications due to their immunomodulatory and pro-regenerative capacity. Although the minimum criteria for defining MSCs have been defined, their characteristics are known to vary depending on their tissue of origin. Results: We isolated and characterized human MSCs from three different bones (ilium (I-MSCs), maxilla (Mx-MSCs) and mandible (Md-MSCs)) and proceeded with next generation RNA-sequencing. Furthermore, to investigate the gene expression profiles among other cell types, we obtained RNA-seq data of human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and several types of MSCs (periodontal ligament-derived MSCs, bone marrow-derived MSCs, and ESCs-derived MSCs) from the Sequence Reads Archive and analyzed the transcriptome profile. We found that MSCs derived from tissues of the maxillofacial region, such as the jaw bone and periodontal ligament, were HOX-negative, while those derived from other tissues were HOX-positive. We also identified that MSX1, LHX8, and BARX1, an essential regulator of craniofacial development, were strongly expressed in maxillofacial tissue-derived MSCs. Although MSCs may be divided into two distinct groups, the cells originated from over the neck or not, on the basis of differences in gene expression profile, the expression patterns of all CD antigen genes were similar among different type of MSCs, except for ESCs. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that MSCs from different anatomical locations, despite meeting general characterization criteria, have remarkable differences in gene expression and positional memory. Although stromal cells from different anatomical sources are generally categorized as MSCs, their differentiation potential and biological functions vary. We suggested that MSCs may retain an original tissue memory about the developmental process, including gene expression profiles. Introduction: the Sacroiliac joint is a diarthrodial type of joint formed by the articulation of sacrum and innominate bones. It is strengthened by the strong extrinsic and intrinsic ligaments like sacrotuberous, sacrospinous, and ventral & dorsal sacroiliac ligaments. The sacroiliac joint transmits the body weight to the lower limbs through the sacrum and innominate bones. Ossification of the ligaments gains its importance in treating conditions like ankylosis and other degenerative diseases of the joint. The present case describes bilateral ankylosis with complete ossification of the ventral sacroiliac ligaments in a male bony pelvis. Such ossifications can lead to painful and restricted movements of the pelvic joints. Clinical knowledge of such an unreported anatomical variant can be helpful for radiographic interpretations, to diagnose and treating cases of compression syndromes and chronic pain. Iliac stress fractures (ISF) are uncommon in sports, particularly among runners, and are attributed to repetitive loading and other predisposing factors. ISF poses diagnostic challenges due to nonspecific symptoms and the limited sensitivity of conventional imaging procedures. The reported case is about a 51-year-old male marathon runner with consecutive bilateral ISF. Initial symptoms included mechanical pain in the right buttock, leading to a diagnosis confirmed via pelvic MRI. Conservative management with eight weeks rest from sport activity was indicated with symptom resolution and return to sport. However, 20 days after returning to sport, the patient developed left-sided symptoms post-resumption of running, with MRI confirming a new ISF. An additional eight weeks of rest was prescribed, allowing the patient to resume sport at preinjury levels. ISF should be considered in runners presenting with gluteal pain, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis. MRI emerges as a valuable tool for accurate diagnosis, guiding appropriate management strategies. Background The anterior iliac crest is the workhorse for the harvest of cancellous bone in children undergoing cleft alveolar bone grafting. However, the complexity of the anatomy makes the process of harvesting graft technique sensitive. The aim was to describe the outcomes of the medially based trap door method of graft harvest in pediatric patients undergoing cleft alveolar bone grafting. Methods A cohort study was conducted, including all the patients in the age group of 8-12 years. Alveolar bone grafting was performed after harvesting a cancellous graft from the iliac crest bone grafting (ICBG) using a medially based trap door approach. Intraoperative time, average blood loss, and postoperative outcomes, including pain score, paresthesia, and gait disturbances, were recorded. Results A total of 28 patients were included in the study based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The volume of cancellous bone harvested was between 4-9 cc. The mean intraoperative time was 42 minutes, with an average blood loss of 36 to 48 ml. The average visual analog scale (VAS) score in the postoperative period was 3.5, 6, and 4 on the first, third, and seventh postoperative days. All the patients were ambulated on the second postoperative day, and none of them reported paresthesia. Long-term evaluation of the anterior illum revealed intact crestal morphology with a bone refill on the posterior-anterior (PA) pelvic X-ray. Background: Subperiosteal hematoma of the iliac bone is reported as a rare disorder that specifically occurs in young patients after obvious trauma. This report presents seven cases of male adolescent athletes with subperiosteal iliac hematoma without blunt trauma that was identified as an incidental radiolucent lesion on the iliac bone mimicking neoplasm. The purpose of this report is to describe clinical features and radiological findings of silent subperiosteal hematoma of the iliac bone. Subjects and methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data and radiological appearance of 7 patients who presented with subperiosteal hematoma of iliac bone. Results: All seven patients had no obvious trauma and no serious symptoms. All patients were middle school or high school male students who regularly participated in vigorous sports activity; five soccer players, one baseball catcher, and one basketball player. The X-ray showed radiolucent lesion on the iliac bone. Lens-shaped mass without involvement of psoas muscle with ghost native cortex sign and overlying periosteal calcification on CT scan was characteristic radiological finding on subperiosteal iliac hematoma. Conclusion: Subperiosteal iliac hematomas can be caused by vigorous sports activity in adolescence. This condition is not always associated with serious symptom. Skeletal tuberculosis is a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Due to non-specific clinical features, these cases are often diagnosed very late, ultimately affecting treatment outcomes. The present case is a very rare case of tuberculosis of the iliac bone and acetabulum with iliopsoas, obturator internus, and obturator externus abscesses in an Indian female. She reported pain in her right hip and a limp. It was a difficult diagnosis, especially due to the rare involvement of bones and muscles in the absence of any lesions in the lungs. Nevertheless, the diagnosis was achieved by a detailed radiometric and laboratory workup.
