Aquest projecte pretén desenvolupar i dissenyar un dispositiu electrònic, implementant una sèrie de sensors, amb l'objectiu d'avaluar i simular el confort tèrmic que podria sentir un ésser humà en unes condicions atmosfèriques determinades dins d'un vehicle. El disseny d'aquest dispositiu té la finalitat de monitoritzar diferents paràmetres relacionats amb el confort tèrmic a partir de diferents variables relatives a l'ambient, com podrien ser la temperatura ambient i/o la humitat relativa. Gràcies al desenvolupament d'aquest mòdul es podrà donar suport a diferents fabricants de vehicles per al desenvolupament i millora de sistemes de refrigeració de cabina d'automòbils, així com la possibilitat d'una millora en l'eficiència d'aquests sistemes amb la finalitat, juntament amb altres sistemes ja existents en els vehicles més moderns, de dissenyar ambients més còmodes per als passatgers del vehicle. Per dur a terme aquest projecte d'investigació s'ha fet ús d'una placa ESP32. S'ha escollit aquesta placa ja que és compatible amb protocols de comunicació I2C i SPI, permet una connexió de diferents sensors connectats simultàniament i té unes dimensions bastant compactes permetent reduir la mida del mòdul en comparació amb l'ús de plaques similars. Les mesures realitzades pels sensors són utilitzades dins de les equacions de Fanger, obtenint els paràmetres de confort tèrmic desitjats. Durant el projecte s'expliquen les diferents etapes del disseny, inconvenients que hagin pogut sorgir i les solucions que s'han trobat amb l'objectiu d'implementar tots els sensors en un sol dispositiu, creant un prototip funcional que s'avaluarà amb un dispositiu ja existent al mercat., Este proyecto tiene como objetivo desarrollar y diseñar un dispositivo electrónico mediante la implementación de una serie de sensores para evaluar y simular el confort térmico que un ser humano podría sentir bajo condiciones atmosféricas específicas dentro de un vehículo. Para este proyecto de investigación se ha utilizado una placa ESP32. Esta placa fue elegida porque es compatible con los protocolos de comunicación I2C y SPI, permite conectar múltiples sensores simultáneamente y tiene dimensiones bastante compactas, reduciendo el tamaño del módulo en comparación con el uso de placas similares. Las mediciones realizadas por los sensores se utilizan dentro de las ecuaciones de Fanger, obteniendo los parámetros de confort térmico deseados. El proyecto detalla las diferentes etapas del diseño, los problemas que puedan haber surgido y las soluciones que se encontraron para implementar todos los sensores en un solo dispositivo, creando un prototipo funcional que será evaluado con un dispositivo ya existente en el mercado., This project aims to develop and design an electronic device by implementing a series of sensors to evaluate and simulate the thermal comfort that a human being might feel under specific atmospheric conditions inside a vehicle. The purpose of designing this device is to monitor various parameters related to thermal comfort based on different environmental variables, such as ambient temperature and/or relative humidity. The development of this module will support various vehicle manufacturers in the development and improvement of automobile cabin cooling systems, as well as the potential to enhance the efficiency of these systems. Along with other existing systems in modern vehicles, this will contribute to designing more comfortable environments for vehicle passengers. An ESP32 board has been used for this research project. This board was chosen because it is compatible with I2C and SPI communication protocols, allows multiple sensors to be connected simultaneously, and has fairly compact dimensions, reducing the module size compared to using similar boards. The measurements taken by the sensors are used within Fanger's equations, obtaining the desired thermal comfort parameters. The project details the different stages of design, any issues that may have arisen, and the solutions that were found to implement all the sensors into a single device, creating a functional prototype that will be evaluated with an already existing market device.

Energy harvesting is often hailed as the great savior of Internet of Things and wireless sensor systems. It will provide all the energy needed to run your thing and a battery is barely needed. How true is this, and where in the world is it this easy? This paper is an investigation of how much energy is actually available from sunlight in the dead of the Scandinavian winter. The paper also measures and evaluates whether vibrational energy harvesting mated to industrial equipment can power a wireless sensor system. With the small amounts of energy available, it is also prudent to investigate what can be done in embedded software to be better matched with a energy harvested power source. The communication protocol $I^2C$ and the power draw of its operation is investigated, and the effect of pull-up resistor value and bitrate is shown to be small, but impactful on long-term system power draw. This paper shows that photovoltaic energy harvesting in central Sweden is feasible, even in the dead of winter. Vibrational energy harvesting is harder to master, and the results are inconclusive whether it possible with a better harvesting setup., Energiutvinning hyllas ofta som den stora räddaren i nöden för Internet of Things och trådlösa sensorsystem. This thesis explores the effectiveness of SystemC compared to VHDL in implementing an I2C controller at the Register Transfer Level (RTL). The main objective was to determine if SystemC could be seamlessly integrated into existing development workflows to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline the design process. The study involved the development and coding of both a SystemC and a VHDL model of an I2C controller, followed by a detailed comparison of the two in terms of coding effort, simulation time, synthesis results, and power consumption. The SystemC I2C implementation required additional steps, including High-Level Synthesis (HLS), which introduced added complexity and cost. The results revealed no significant advantage in coding effort or synthesis performance for the SystemC I2C, but simulation times were notably longer compared to VHDL I2C. Although the SystemC I2C offered slightly lower power consumption, the advantages did not offset the disadvantages in complexity and time. The study concludes that while SystemC may offer benefits in some contexts, VHDL remains a more practical choice for this type of RTL design, especially in development environments where simplicity and efficiency are crucial., Denna avhandling undersöker effektiviteten hos SystemC, jämfört med VHDL vid implementering av en I2C-kontroller på Register Transfer Level (RTL).Det avisktliga målet var att avgöra om SystemC sömlöst kunde integreras i det befintliga arbetsflödet för att förbättra effektiviteten, minska kostnaderna och effektivisera designprocessen. Studien involverade utveckling och kodning av både en SystemC- och en VHDL-modell av en I2C-styrenhet, följt av en detaljerad jämförelse av de två I2C modellerna när det gäller kodningsansträngning, simuleringstid, syntesresultat och strömförbrukning. SystemC implementeringen krävde ytterligare steg, inklusive High-Level Synthesis (HLS), som införde ökad komplexitet och kostnad. Studien gick ut på att undersöka och ta fram relativa luftfuktighetsgivare som ger godkända mätvärden mellan [5%, 95%] relativ luftfuktighet med klimatkammare som referens. Med syftet att ersätta företagets givare i deras NDIR koldioxidsensor. Den skulle ersättas då deras nuvarande luftfuktighetsgivare gav felaktiga värden när klimatet gick mot antingen väldigt torrt eller fuktigt. Det är väsentligt att luftfuktighetsgivaren fungerar eftersom företaget använder värdena från givaren för att ge korrekta koldioxidmätningar i deras NDIR sensor. Detta är möjligt eftersom koldioxidhalter har visats sig påverkas av den relativa luftfuktigheten. Givarna införskaffades och monterades på PCB’s. Kod utvecklades för insamling av data genom I2C och SPI kommunikation. Givarna kördes sedan i en klimatkammare som svepte luftfuktigheten mellan [5%, 95%]. Värdena illustrerades i Matlab genom grafer. Givare 2 visade sig ge bäst värden på hela spannet jämfört med resterande givare. Den hade absolut minst avvikelse vid extrempunkterna, samt låg nära referensvärdet vid resterande luftfuktigheter i svepet [5%, 95%]., The purpose of the study was to examine and bring forth a relative humidity sensor which gives approved values for the span between [5%, 95%] relative humidity with the climate chamber as the reference point. The goal was to replace the companies relative humdity sensor in their NDIR carbon dioxide sensor. It was to be replaced because their current sensor gave incorrect values when the climate was really humid or dry. It’s of value that the sensor gives correct values because the company uses relative humdity readings to correct their carbon dioxide reading in their NDIR sensor. The reason this works is because the carbon dioxide levels has been showed to correlate with the relative humidity. The sensors were studied and bought. They were mounted on top of PCB’s. Code was developed to gather data from I2C and SPI communication. The sensors was then put into an climate chamber and got swept between [5%,95%] relative humidity. The values were illustrated in Matlab through graphs. Sensor 2 proved to give the best values on the entire span [5%, 95%] relative humidity in comparison to the other sensors in the study. It had the least added error of all the sensors at dry/humid climates and was really close to the reference value at the other points of span [5%, 95%] relative humidity.

A reliable battery management system is important in many industrial companies, especially in the electric vehicle industry. Batteries are used in many different components, from electronic components to electric vehicles. Users want to know when a battery should be replaced or recharged. To achieve this, a battery management system has been implemented to detect the state of charge, voltage, current and temperature of a battery. A lot of effort went into researching different methods and implementing the battery management system for automotive test-bed based. There has been developed a prototype of an RC car at KTH and nowadays there is no method to detect (State Of Charges (SOCs)) of a lipo-battery that will power up the RC car. The purpose of this thesis is to delve deeper into the field of embedded systems and to understand how hardware and software could be integrated to solve a well-defined problem. The goal is to evaluate different methods to implement an approach for detecting the SOCs, voltage, temperature, etc. of the lipo-battery and report them back to the users based on the researched method. A lot of time has been dedicated to literature studies to understand different methods for detecting the state of charge of a battery and choose an IC (integrated circuit) component that supports one of those methods based on the characteristics of the lipobattery. A PCB is made for the IC to be programmed to fulfill the goal of this thesis. The software is programmed in C using the interface communication I2C and CAN Bus. The result was to detect the voltage, current, temperature and SOCs but there are some deviations in SOCs and current due to hardware constraints. Because of some limitations and safety issues, an actual Lipobattery is not been used during the development and a current generator is been used instead. The PCB for evaluation is not stable and that resulted in a deviation result, Ett pålitligt batterihanteringssystem är viktigt inom många olika industrier, framför allt inom elbilsindustrin. Batterier används inom många olika komponenter, från elektroniken till elbilar. Användaren vill veta när ett batteri ska bytas ut och när det ska laddas om. För att uppnå detta, ett batterihanteringssystem har implementerats i det här examensarbetet för att detektera laddningstillstånd, spänning, ström och temperatur av ett batteri. Det har gått mycket tid åt forskning om vilka metoder som finns och baserad en väll-etablerad metod har en komponent (integrerat krets) valts för att detektera laddningstillståndet hos ett batteri. Det har utvecklats en prototyp av en elbil på KTH och förnärvarande finns inte någon metod för att detektera laddningstillståndet på elbilen. Det används ett 2-cell lipo-batteri i bilen och batterihanteringssystemet ska detektera laddningstillståndet på batteriet. Syftet med det här examensarbetet är att fördjupa mig inom området inbyggda system och förstå hur hårdvara och mjukvara kan integreras för att lösa ett väll definierad problem. Målet med det här examensarbetet är att utvädera olika komponenter baserad på ett pålitligt metod för att detektera laddningstillståndet, spänningen, strömmen och temperaturen etc. av lipobatteriet. Baserad på vald komponent, ska ett PCB byggas för att balansera komponenten som sedan ska utvärderas genom att programmera komponenten. Utvärderingen av komponenten behövs för att se om komponenten kan detektera batteriets laddningstillstånd. Mycket tid har gått åt litteraturstudier för att förstå vilka typer av metoder finns och välja en komponent som stödjer det valda metoden baserad på batteriets karaktär. Ett PCB har byggts för att uppnå målet med examensarbetet. C språket har använts för programmering och kommunikations-gränssnittet I2C och CAN Bus har använts för kommunicering mellan olika enheter. Resultatet var att detektera laddningstillståndet, spänningen, strömmen och temperaturen av batteriet

Can we reduce disturbance, swing, and errors by delegating some of the tasks to a subsystem on the tool hanging from a drone to gain precision and dependability? This project covers developing and implementing a user-controlled prototype with an automatic control system and gripper for functionality and controlled movement in 5 DOF. AirForestry is developing a new way of working in the forestry business to provide a greener and healthier solution for the soil and the environment. The forestry industry emits approximately one million tons of CO2 per year from heavy diesel-fueled vehicles. With a renewable energy battery-powered drone of a diameter of 6.2 m and a hanging harvesting tool, they can significantly improve the environmental impact of forestry. The harvesting tool has an automatic control system and is user controlled to perform the thinning and cutting of trees. The main focus is to use IMU sensor data to produce accurate angle estimation to control the stability of a scaled prototype and to implement physical restrictions to make it able to be attached safely and tested on a drone but not limit the controlled mobility of the prototype with a system independent of the control system of the drone itself. The user can control the attitude and elevation and receive real-time sensor data wireless during operation. With the intended spacing of the attachment points on the drone, it can prevent unwanted swing from a push or displaced drop. It uses the accelerometer on the IMUsensor to calculate the angle of roll and pitch, although the accelerometer is sensitive to vibrations and rotations. The control system has a fast response and rise time, but it experiences noise and oscillations. Sensor fusion of the accelerometer and gyroscope in a complementary filter can be implemented to increase the accuracy of the angle estimations and decrease the noise, which will be reflected in the speed of the servos and thereby improve the stability and mobility of the system.

En este proyecto podremos observar el diseño e implementación de un dispositivo electrónico, compuesto por diferentes sensores con el objetivo de captar diferentes mediciones ambientales para mejorar el confort del/la conductor/a y de los pasajeros de un automóvil. La razón del diseño de este dispositivo es la de poder monitorizar distintos parámetros relativos al ambiente que rodea al/la conductor/a y a los ocupantes del vehículo, como temperatura ambiental, humedad, presión ambiente, entre otros. Con el desarrollo de este dispositivo se podrá dar soporte a los distintos fabricantes de módulos de confort para el desarrollo de algoritmos con el objetivo de diseñar ambientes más confortables durante la conducción o trayecto y su vez se sumarian a otros sistemas automáticos existentes en los vehículos más modernos, como la automatización de la iluminación o como sistemas de seguridad, tales como la detección de obstáculos o detección de fatiga. Para este proyecto el trabajo de investigación se ha iniciado a partir de una placa ESP32, su elección ha sido motivada por las ventajas de esta en relación a su programación del software, conectividad Wi-Fi y Bluetooth. Capaz de leer información de distintos sensores con sus protocolos y enviar datos al ordenador sin necesidad de conectar la placa al puerto USB. Los datos transmitidos, son recogidos mediante una hoja de cálculo que se almacena en la nube, permitiendo su acceso mediante cualquier dispositivo que tenga conexión a internet y un programa que permita leer dichas hojas de cálculo. A lo largo de este proyecto, se explica las diferentes etapas del diseño, los inconvenientes surgidos y cómo se han ideado las diferentes soluciones para poder integrar los distintos elementos en un solo dispositivo, creando así un prototipo funcional preparado para los primeros ensayos., In this project we will be able to observe the design and implementation of an electronic device, composed of different sensors with the aim of capturing different environmental measurements to improve the comfort of the driver and passengers of a car. The reason for the design of this device is to be able to monitor different parameters related to the environment that surrounds the driver and the occupants of the vehicle, such as ambient temperature, humidity, ambient pressure, among others. With the development of this device, it will be possible to give support to the different manufacturers of comfort modules for the development of algorithms with the aim of designing more comfortable environments while driving or traveling and, in addition, would be added to other existing automatic systems in modern vehicles like lighting automation or safety systems, such as obstacle detection or fatigue detection. For this project, the research work has started from an ESP32 board, its choice has been motivated by its advantages in relation to its software programming, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Capable of reading information from different sensors with their protocols and sending data to the computer without the need to connect the board to the USB port. The data transmitted is collected through a spreadsheet that is stored in the cloud, allowing access through any device that has an Internet connection and a program that allows reading these spreadsheets. Throughout this project, the different stages of the design are explained, the problems that have arisen and how the different solutions have been devised to be able to integrate the different elements into a single device, thus creating a functional prototype prepared for the first tests.

Los sistemas integrados se encuentran en todas partes, el rango de estos abarca desde la industria automovilística controlando sistemas críticos hasta los electrodomésticos más básicos que se pueden encontrar en una casa. En este proyecto se pretende diseñar y desarrollar un sistema integrado que permita jugar una partida de ajedrez entre dos jugadores. Para ello se ha construido desde cero un tablero de ajedrez junto a una matriz de leds. El sistema recoge las jugadas de cada usuario, las procesa y las muestra en el tablero mediante las luces leds que contiene cada casilla., Embedded systems are found everywhere, ranging from the automotive industry controlling critical systems to the most basic household appliances that can be found in any house. This project aims to design and develop an embedded system that allows a game of chess to be played between two players. To do this, a chess board has been built from scratch together with a matrix of LEDs. The system collects the moves of each user, processes them and displays them on the board by means of the LED lights contained in each square.
