Manuka honey (MH) exhibits potential antitumor activity in preclinical models of a number of human cancers. Treatment in vitro with MH at concentrations ranging from 0.3 to 5.0% (w/v) led to significant dose-dependent inhibition of proliferation of human breast cancer MCF-7 cells, but anti-proliferative effects of MH were less pronounced in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. Effects of MH were also tested on non-malignant human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs) at 2.5% w/v, and it was found that MH reduced the proliferation of MCF-7 cells but not that of HMECs. Notably, the antitumor activity of MH was in the range of that exerted by treatment of MCF-7 cells with the antiestrogen tamoxifen. Further, MH treatment stimulated apoptosis of MCF-7 cells in vitro, with most cells exhibiting acute and significant levels of apoptosis that correlated with PARP activation. Additionally, the effects of MH induced the activation of AMPK and inhibition of AKT/mTOR downstream signaling. Treatment of MCF7 cells with increased concentrations of MH induced AMPK phosphorylation in a dose-dependent manner that was accompanied by inhibition of phosphorylation of AKT and mTOR downstream effector protein S6. In addition, MH reduced phosphorylated STAT3 levels in vitro, which may correlate with MH and AMPK-mediated anti-inflammatory properties. Further, in vivo, MH administered alone significantly inhibited the growth of established MCF-7 tumors in nude mice by 84%, resulting in an observable reduction in tumor volume. Our findings highlight the need for further research into the use of natural compounds, such as MH, for antitumor efficacy and potential chemoprevention and investigation of molecular pathways underlying these actions.

Bi2Te3-based alloys are only commercial thermoelectric materials. While, currently, n-type Bi2Te 2. 7 Se 0. 3 -based alloys commonly have lower ZT values than those of p-type Bi 0. 5 Sb 1. 5 Te3 based alloys. In this paper, the influence of different amounts of dispersing honey on the thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi2Te 2. 7 Se 0. 3 alloys synthesized by the hydrothermal and hot-pressing methods was investigated. The carbon atoms contained in honey could increase lattice defects and grain boundary density effectively, and improved the Seebeck coefficient and suppress lattice thermal conductivity simultaneously. Honey is one of the oldest natural compounds that come from ancient times to nowadays with health benefits. It has been used for the treatment of several diseases, but its role in oral health faces real skepticism due to the high concentration of carbohydrates in its composition. Many studies over the years have confirmed several pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, antibacterial, antihistaminic, etc. It is composed of different chemical compounds like carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, organic acids, phenolic compounds, and volatile substances. Honey contains many enzymes such as invertase, catalase, glucose oxidase, and acid phosphorylase, as well as traces of vitamins B2, B4, B5, B6, B11, and vitamin C, minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium. A promising challenge is the use of honey as a targeting product obtained from green synthesis, with high-efficiency thanks to nanotechnology. This study aims to investigate the potential benefits of honey in oral health, leveraging its diverse biological activity like antimicrobial, and antioxidant effects. A magnetic solid-phase extraction method with the dispersion of magnetic hypercrosslinked polystyrene (MHCPS) by carbon dioxide is proposed for the extraction and preconcentration of amphenicols (chloramphenicol, florfenicol, and thiamphenicol) from honey and milk before their determination by HPLC–MS/MS. Effervescent tablets, consisting of sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, and MHCPS in the case of honey and sodium bicarbonate and MHCPS in the case of milk, were used. The conditions for obtaining tablets were selected (the amount and ratio of the acid, base, and MHCPS in the composition of a tablet and its mass), ensuring the quantitative release of amphenicols. Procedures for the determination of amphenicols in honey and milk with the dispersion of the sorbent by carbon dioxide and the subsequent determination of the compounds by HPLC–MS/MS are developed. The diet consumed by adult parasitoids can affect longevity, survival, and fecundity. Honeydew from sap‐sucking insects is an abundant food resource in the field; however, artificial diets such as commercial bee honey are often used in lab rearing. The parasitoid Paracentrobia subflava (Girault) (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) is a natural enemy of Dalbulus maidis (DeLong) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae). The longevity and survival of P. subflava when fed natural and artificial diets under controlled conditions have not been studied. Further, the fecundity of P. subflava when fed a diet of honey has not been investigated. Therefore, our first objective was to analyse the longevity and survival of P. subflava when fed (1) honeydew of the corn leafhopper D. maidis, (2) honey + water, (3) honey + water + pollen, (4) water, and (5) nothing (control). Our second objective was to evaluate P. subflava fecundity upon exposure to D. maidis eggs, comparing parasitoids fed with honey + water versus controls (no food or water). In the second objective, honey was chosen since it was determined during the first objective to be the optimal food. The longevity of adult parasitoids (laboratory‐reared and field‐collected) was high when fed on honey and low when fed other diets. The highest longevity was achieved with honey + water: 17 days, while the survival of adult parasitoids was only 3 days for honeydew. Interestingly, fecundity, in terms of the percentage of parasitism and the percentage of emergence, did not differ between parasitoid females that had access to honey + water as a food resource and those that had no food or water. This study evaluated the presence of the three pesticides methomyl (MET), carbendazim (CBZ) and chlorpyrifos-ethyl (CPE), as well as the degradation product of CPE (3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol; TCP), in 44 honey samples from all 12 regions of Morocco. With a validated HPLC-UV method occurrence frequencies of 63.6% for MET, 54.5% for CBZ, 95.1% for CPE and 34.1% for TCP were obtained, even at concentrations higher than the maximum residue limits for MET, CPE and TCP. Based on the predominant pesticide, principal component analysis separated sampling regions into three groups. The dielectric constant (ε′) and dielectric loss (ε″) of pure honey (PH) and honey-water mixtures have been measured over 20 Hz − 20 GHz frequency range, at 26 °C using a precision LCR meter and a Vector Network Analyzer. It has been observed that as water proportion in honey increases, ε′ and ε″ increases over the given frequency range. The dielectric relaxation peak of ε″ for honey-water mixture in the microwave frequency range shifts towards relaxation peak of water as amount of water in honey increases. The normalized ε′/ε′PH ratio is found to increase with increase in water content in Honey, reaching up to 1000 over 20 Hz to 2 kHz. In frequency range from 500 MHz to 5 GHz, ε′/ε′PH ratio approaches a value of 10 times at 750 mg/g. Over 20 Hz to 2 MHz frequency range, ε″/ε″PH ratio approaches 100 times that of PH, but over frequency range from 200 MHz to 600 MHz the ratio ε″/ε″PH is found to decrease anomalously with increase in water content in PH. This study was intended to determine the melissopalynological characteristics, LAB color, browning index, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, phenolic profile, and their correlations within Iranian honeys. Ten honey samples were collected from beekeepers in various floristic regions of Iran, along with two commercial multi-floral samples. To determine the antioxidant activity, three methods of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, β-carotene bleaching, and Ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) were used. Phenolic compounds were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection (HPLC–DAD). Pollen analysis revealed that bees primarily fed on the Fabaceae and Asteraceae families in the Iranian flora. The local samples were taxonomically categorized as multi-floral honey. Besides, the commercial samples demonstrated the lowest levels of total phenolics and relatively poor antioxidant activity across all three methods. Syringic acid and luteolin were the predominant phenolic compounds in all samples. A strong correlation (p < 0.01) was found between color, melanoidin content and antioxidant activity, while no significant correlation existed between phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Overall, the results confirmed that examined multi-floral honeys exhibited inferior antioxidant activity compared to studies conducted in other regions worldwide, possibly due to sugar-fed bees, insufficient levels of potent phenolic constituents, and post-harvest thermal treatments. Enzymatic browning is a major cause of postharvest quality loss in fruits/vegetables. Heat and chemicals are conventionally employed to prevent enzymatic browning. However, the demand for fresh-like fruit/vegetable products processed without chemical additives has shifted the paradigm towards natural antibrowning agents. Consequently, essential oils, hydrosols, honey, and plant extracts have received considerable attention as natural antibrowning agents during the last 4–5 years owing to the ability of their active constituents (flavonoids, phenolic acids, antioxidative peptides, thiol compounds, and/or carboxylic acids) to affect oxidative enzymes by (i) complexing at various sites through hydrogen, van der Waals, π-sigma/π-π stack, electrostatic, and hydrophobic interactions, (ii) chelating metals at their active sites, and (iii) making conditions unfavourable for their activity as well as due to their ability to behave as membrane integrity promotors, substrate synthesis suppressors, and oxygen quenchers depending on the source, concentration, target fruit/vegetable, and processing conditions. However, their application in fruit/vegetable processing is challenging. For instance, plant extracts display high variability and lower effectiveness than synthetic antibrowning agents, while essential oils and hydrosols exhibit strong odours, limited solubility, and volatility. This article reviews the most recent studies on essential oils, hydrosols, honey, and plant extracts to provide an overview of the modes of action of natural antibrowning agents and highlight challenges associated with their utilisation. The effects of honey addition to Tris media on osmolality, pH values and on the quality characteristics of fresh and chilled goat spermatozoa were studied. Semen samples were collected from five Shami bucks and incubated at 20 °C for the fresh samples and at 5 °C for the chilled ones in Tris-Based Medium (TBM) and Tris-Egg Yolk (TEY) medium without (controls) and with honey at ratios of 1%, 2% and 4% (v/v) respectively. Osmolality and pH levels were determined for all used media. Spermatozoa motility was analysed using the Computer Assisted Sperm Analyzer (CASA) system and the integrity of sperm plasma membrane was tested by the Hypo-Osmotic Swelling Test (HOST). Osmolality values were significantly increased (P<0.05) by honey addition reaching 558 mOsm/kg in TBM and 675 mOsm/kg in TEY with 4% of honey compared with 307 mOsm/kg and 312 mOsm/kg for the controls respectively. In contrast, pH values decreased (P<0.05) from 6.93 in TBM control medium to 6.4 in TBM with 4% of honey and from 6.83 in TEY control medium to 6.1 in TEY with 4% of honey. CASA motility parameters including the percent motility (MOT%) and the percent of sperm showing progressive motility (PMOT%) increased after adding 1% and 2% of honey while the addition of 4% led to a clear decrease (P<0.05) for the fresh and chilled samples. The percentages of spermatozoa subpopulations including the rapid % and the static % categories for fresh and chilled samples were significantly decreased and increased respectively after adding 4% honey. Moreover, for all media and for all incubation temperatures, the HOST percentage decreased significantly (P<0.05) by adding 4% honey. It was concluded that honey addition to Tris media influenced the osmolality and pH values, which in turn affected the quality characteristics of buck spermatozoa based on honey concentration regardless of the incubation temperature or the used media. Stingless bee honeys are appreciated in the world market due to their nutritional and biological properties. In Argentina, the most commercially exploited species of stingless bee is Tetragonisca fiebrigi whose honey is the only one of its kind incorporated into the Argentine Food Code. The value of stingless bee honeys has been increasing in recent years, making them more prone to adulteration. However, there are no methodologies available to perform adequate controls to verify their authenticity. Therefore, the objective of this work was to develop and validate a UV–Vis spectroscopy and chemometric combined methodology to detect and quantify adulterations of Tetragonisca fiebrigi honeys produced in Argentina. The adulterants analyzed included Apis mellifera honey, three commercial sugar syrups (glucose, extra glucose, maltodex40) and three laboratory-formulated sugar syrups (sucrose, fructose and high fructose). The results showed that through principal component analysis it is possible to differentiate pure honey from adulterated honey. Through linear discriminant analysis and partial least squares regression, unknown mixtures could be classified by determining the degree of adulteration and identifying the type of adulterant used. The method allows detecting the addition of up to 64% of Apis mellifera honey, while the maximum amount of detectable added syrup varies between 51 and 70%, depending on the type of syrup. The aims of this study were to prepare butter and honey flavoured tiger nut oil oleogels with beeswax oleogelator and to compare them with the unflavoured control sample. The oleogels prepared with 10 wt% beeswax and 0.5 wt% of each flavour addition were analysed for main physicochemical, thermal, and structural properties. In addition, a trained panel described the samples with 11 sensory descriptive (hardness, spreadability, roasted, liquefaction, rancid, waxy, nutty, butter, honey, cooling, and mouth coating) terms. It was found that the oleogels melt around 52 °C and included β′ type polymorphs. The sensory data proved that the samples were quite well spreadable and had enough hardness to stay as solid-fat samples at room temperature. Further, addition of butter and honey flavours masked the waxy attribute. This study analysed the main aspects of the communication of local beekeepers on their websites, to identify the most popular elements and to check whether companies communicate differently. A Web Content Analysis of all textual material on Piedmontese beekeeping websites was carried out, taking into consideration all variables such as domain authority, monthly organic traffic, backlinks and the presence (or absence) of the company on social media. The main findings highlighted a low differentiation between communication strategies related to honey organoleptic and sensorial characteristics. Claims concerning the Gastronomic pairings, Quality and certification, Links to territory and Organic honey categories were the most widespread current on beekeeping websites, while there was slight information related to health aspects and ethical/social sustainability. This research has identified a trend in the communication strategies of beekeeping companies that deviates from classic agribusiness strategies in terms of innovation, value creation and product and brand differentiation. Honey is one of the most valuable food products, which, in addition to its nutritional value, also has therapeutic properties. In our study, the physicochemical (Brix, viscosity, free acid content, pH, moisture, diastase activity, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), proline content, sugars content, and reducing sugars content) and microbial (mold and yeast content) characteristics and 15 element contents (As, Cd, K, Al, Pb, Hg, Ba, Ni, Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Se) of the samples were evaluated. Among the essential elements, the maximum mean was related to K (630 ± 50.8 mg/kg), and the minimum mean was related to Se that was lower than the limit of detection. Also, among all toxic elements, the maximum mean was related to Ni (234 ± 54.7 µg/kg), and the minimum mean was related to Hg that was lower than the limit of detection. Furthermore, the mean of free acidity, pH, °Brix, moisture, diastase content, HMF, and proline content was 35.4 ± 1.27 meq/kg, 4.61 ± 0.21, 82.2 ± 3.08, 16.3 ± 0.33%, 9.10 ± 1.14 DN, 21.1 ± 2.65 mg/kg, and 482 ± 18.1 mg/kg, respectively. Also, the mean percentage of fructose, glucose, and sucrose was 32.4 ± 1.07% (27.5–40.0%), 27.2 ± 0.85% (23.5–31.7%), and 2.28 ± 0.70% (0.72–4.11%), respectively. Finally, the mean of mold and yeast in all samples was 14.2 ± 0.37 CFU/g. Also, the principal component analysis and heat map allowed us to determine a more accurate distinction between the physicochemical characteristics of bee honey. This study investigates the effects of brown sugar and honey on microbial counts, antibacterial activity, chemical compositions, and biological activities of cascara kombucha beverages after 12 days of fermentation. Concentrations of 5, 10, and 15 g of brown sugar or equivalent volumes of honey were used per 100 mL of cascara kombucha to evaluate changes in parameters such as pH, acetic acid, sugar, alcohol content, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity. The results indicated that the microbial composition and pH of the products remained consistent at all concentrations of honey (H) and brown sugar (BS). Cascara kombucha with 15% brown sugar had significantly lower acetic acid content and higher brix as compared with 5% and 10% honey. The alcohol concentration in cascara kombucha with 15% brown sugar was comparable to that with the same levels of honey. Increasing the amounts of brown sugar or honey significantly increased the total phenolic compounds but decreased the antioxidant capacity of cascara kombucha. Additionally, kombucha samples with honey demonstrated better inhibiting the growth of E. coli than brown sugar. Thus, the use of cascara pulp as a novel ingredient in health-promoting kombucha highlights the significant impact of honey and brown sugar on its chemical composition and biological activities. Background: Natural medicines present a considerable analytical challenge due to their diverse botanical origins and complex multi‐species composition. This inherent complexity complicates their rapid identification and analysis. Tangerine peel, a product of the Citrus species from the Rutaceae family, is widely used both as a culinary ingredient and in traditional Chinese medicine. It is classified into two primary types in China: Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (CP) and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride (QP), differentiated by harvest time. A notable price disparity exists between CP and another variety, Citri reticulatae "Chachi" (GCP), with differences being based on the original variety. Methods: This study introduces an innovative method using portable miniature mass spectrometry for swift on‐site analysis of QP, CP, and GCP, requiring less than a minute per sample. And combined with machine learning to differentiate the three types on site, the method was used to try to distinguish GCP from different storage years. Results: This novel method using portable miniature mass spectrometry for swift on‐site analysis of tangerine peels enabled the characterization of 22 compounds in less than one minute per sample. The method simplifies sample processing and integrates machine learning to distinguish between the CP, QP, and GCP varieties. Moreover, a multiple‐perceptron neural network model is further employed to specifically differentiate between CP and GCP, addressing the significant price gap between them. Conclusions: The entire analytical time of the method is about 1 minute, and samples can be analyzed on site, greatly reducing the cost of testing. Besides, this approach is versatile, operates independently of location and environmental conditions, and offers a valuable tool for assessing the quality of natural medicines. Background: Castanea sativa Mill. is important for ecosystems and societies. Its rich historical and cultural significance, remarkable ecological contributions, and diverse applications have inspired scientific research. This comprehensive review and conceptual mapping of chestnut research consolidates existing knowledge, identifies emerging trends, and highlights untapped potential to inform future investigations. First, the Scopus database was searched to retrieve all data-driven articles in English related to C. sativa published in English from 1951 to 2023. Second, the R language, Scopus Analytics, and VOSviewer were used to analyze the year of publication, authors, countries, affiliations, keywords, and citations. Finally, network analysis was performed to evaluate the hotspots and developmental trends of C. sativa. A total of 1889 research articles were recovered. Results: The articles showed an exponential progression, with a regression coefficient of 0.9435 (R2) and an annual growth rate of 6.28%. Italy (19.87%), Spain (15.56%), Portugal (13.39%), Turkey (6.92%), and Switzerland (5.17%) were the most prolific countries. C. sativa (798), sweet chestnut (54), cryphonectria parasitica (44), honey (38), phenolic compounds (35), chestnut blight (33) and antioxidant activity (31) are the keywords that occur the most frequently. The main research groups in the thematic map are "forest management," "Cryphonectria parasitica," "wood," "Spain" and "ethnobotany." Research on C. sativa has all the basic, motor, niche, and emerging or declining themes. Forest management, drought, Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi, C. sativa shells, amino acids, honey, phenolic compounds, hydrolyzable tannins, antioxidant capacity, antioxidants, and extractives are trending topics. Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis highlights the importance of C. sativa research, revealing its ecological contributions, cultural significance, and diverse applications. Abstract:Understanding nectar sources is crucial for sustainable apiculture with Apis cerana, yet information on these sources remains limited. We conducted pollen analysis of honey and bees’ ingested nectar (mainly crop content) to determine the nectar sources of this honeybee species in West Bengal, India. Diverse pollen types were obtained from honey (33) and crop-nectar samples (47). A few pollen types came from non-nectariferous plants, and most came from actual nectariferous plants. Predominant pollen types in honey samples were Calendula officinalis, Eucalyptus tereticornis, and Peltophorum pterocarpum. The very frequent pollen types obtained from crop-nectar were Eucalyptus tereticornis, Peltophorum pterocarpum, and Tridax procumbens. In conclusion, versatile pollen types (that were obtained from honey and bee’s crop-nectar), indicating that the Asian honeybee (Apis cerana) is a generalist visitor, collect nectar from a large number of plant species. Our results also conclude that pollen analysis of bees’ crop-nectar can provide vital information about their nectar sources (excluding a few pollen types of non-nectariferous plants) in addition to the traditional honey analysis. Royal Jelly (RJ) is a natural substance produced by honeybees, serving not only as nutrition for bee brood and queens but also as a functional food due to its health-promoting properties. Despite its well-known broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, the precise molecular mechanism underlying its antibacterial action has remained elusive. In this study, we investigated the impact of RJ on the bacteria model MG1655 at its half-maximal inhibitory concentration, employing LC–MS/MS to analyze proteomic changes. The differentially expressed proteins were found to primarily contribute to the suppression of gene expression processes, specifically transcription and translation, disrupting nutrition and energy metabolism, and inducing oxidative stress. Notably, RJ treatment led to a marked inhibition of superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, resulting in heightened oxidative damage and lipid peroxidation. Furthermore, through a protein–protein interaction network analysis using the STRING database, we identified CRP and IHF as crucial host regulators responsive to RJ. These regulators were found to play a pivotal role in suppressing essential hub genes associated with energy production and antioxidant capabilities. Our findings significantly contribute to the understanding of RJ's antibacterial mechanism, highlighting its potential as a natural alternative to conventional antibiotics. Turkey is the leading producer of pine honey worldwide, accounting for 90% of global production, largely due to the presence of Marchalina hellenica populations. However, in recent years, devastating forest fires have caused substantial damage to Pinus brutia forests and M. hellenica populations, leading to a dramatic decline in pine honey production areas. The urgency for early intervention procedures against forest fires and relocation of M. hellenica populations to other P. brutia forests has become apparent. A comprehensive assessment of 25 criteria was conducted to investigate the thresholds and behaviors of each criterion, which play a vital role in the distribution of M. hellenica, using the maximum entropy model (MaxEnt). To evaluate the impact of forest fires on the distribution of M. hellenica, the potential locations of pine honey production areas were determined for 2022. Furthermore, the susceptibility of forest fires was modeled for all pine honey production months. The findings revealed that forest fires have destroyed 384.9 km2 (12.8% of the total pine honey production area), predominantly in August and September, with the most severe damage in Marmaris (156 km2) and significant impacts in Ula, Köyceğiz, and Milas. The analysis facilitates the estimation of new areas suitable for M. hellenica and pine honey production while providing valuable insights into strategies for mitigating forest fires and formulating proactive protection protocols. Biogenic combustion with Mellifera (Honey) capping produced ZnO, Ag-doped ZnO, and Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles. The phase and crystal structure of metal oxide nanoparticles (MONPs) have been recorded through XRD spectrum. It confirms that the prepared metal oxides are within the nanoscale range. The average crystallite size of Fe-doped ZnO is 8.8 nm, smaller than ZnO and Ag-doped nanoparticles. The vibrational spectra of ZnO, Ag-doped ZnO, and Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles confirm functional group stretching vibrational modes. The exterior surface morphology of all metal oxide nanoparticles was captured by FESEM. Metal oxide nanoparticle compositional analysis shows elemental presence, atomic, and weight %. The optical properties of metal oxide nanoparticles have been examined using UV–vis spectroscopy. The band gap energy of ZnO nanoparticles reduced from 2.68 eV to 1.74 eV under Fe doing and increased to 2.9 eV under Ag doing. Metal oxide thermal stability is also being investigated to determine how it affects ZnO nanoparticles. Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles have greater sensor properties than other metal oxides due to their tiny size, band gap, and stability. This study presents for the first time functional cookies for diabetics made with 100% organic Cyperus esculentus L. flour, either plain or enhanced with 5% polyfloral honey syrup containing the probiotic strain Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus SL42. The flour's chemical composition and rheological and functional properties were analyzed, and 33 diabetic and semi-naive panelists assessed the cookies' sensory properties. MRS-cys agar cultures and SEM analysis evaluated SL42 survival and adhesion capacity over 21 days at 25 °C. Results showed that the flour and its extracts are rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, indicating strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Both cookie types met international standards when compared to commercial cookies and had similar physical properties. Sensory evaluation on day 1 revealed higher quality indicators for honey syrup-enriched cookies, but after 15 days, control cookies were preferred. The CIE LAB analysis confirmed the dietetic flour's typical dark color, with honey syrup-enriched cookies being darker. Despite textural differences, both cookies maintained detectable crispness over storage. Honey syrup-enriched cookies effectively carried L. rhamnosus SL42, remaining viable at 6.43 Log CFU per cookie after 21 days and adhering to the cookie's surface, as confirmed by SEM analysis. The purpose of this research article was to study the physicochemical characteristics of semi-wild Jara honey grown in Western Georgia. Jara honey is produced in the alpine and sub-alpine forest zone of high mountain Adjara, which is distinguished by its variety of honey plants. The physicochemical characteristics were examined concerning the Alimemtarius Code and EU regulations: moisture content, total carbohydrates, free acidity, pH, electrical conductivity, microelements (Li, Na, K, Mg, Ca), color, total phenols, total phenolic acids, total flavonoids, proline, diastase activity, proteins, and microscopic study of pollens. Using the UPLC-MSB method, grayanotoxin-III was identified in the semi-wild Jara honey samples. The findings demonstrated that the honey has significant concentrations of phenols, phenolic acids, and flavonoids. A directly proportional relationship was established between the quantitative content of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant activity of honey. A new cyclic natural compound formed by succinic acid and two alanine amino acid units was isolated from the Tetragonisca angustula honey extract. The chemical structure of 1 was established based on spectroscopic data analysis, including one- (1H and 13C NMR) and two-dimensional NMR techniques (1H-1H-COSY, HSQC and HMBC). A primary culture model previously infected with Neospora caninum was used to evaluate 1 for two time intervals (24 and 72 h), showing a reduction (40-56%) of the number of tachyzoites in the first 24 h and until 72 h, a dose-dependent reduction in parasite proliferation (25-50%). Glial cells treated with 1 did not demonstrate toxicity at concentrations up to 25 ug/mL. Treated and infected cultures showed an increase in NO when compared to control cells in 24 h and 72 h. Early diagnosis of cancer allows for easy follow-up of patients' treatment processes. The utilization of microarray gene technology has become increasingly prevalent in the detection of cancer. However, the limited success of classical data mining methods can be attributed to the absence of a linear relationship among the data in microarray datasets. Artificial intelligence-based classification methods are employed to address classification challenges in datasets with a high number of attributes, due to the following reasons: This study presents a novel approach that combines adaptive particle swarm optimization (PSO) with the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm to effectively classify microarray datasets. Firstly, Chi2 and ANOVA F-test feature selection algorithms are applied to the microarray datasets to prevent the model from getting stuck in the local optimum. Thus, the most defining features in the dataset are selected, and the dimension is reduced. For classification success increases, we have selected optimal features with the proposed hybrid adaptive ABC + PSO, gray wolf algorithm (GWO), PSO, and ABC algorithms on the new dataset obtained. The last step is performed to classify using a support vector machine (SVM), an artificial neural network (ANN), and a nearest-neighbor (k-NN) algorithm. The antibiofilm and antimicrobial properties of tropical honey types including Malaysian stingless bee honey remain explicitly unexplored when compared with Apies honey. The antibiofilm and antimicrobial activities of the Malaysian Trigona honey were characterized with two stinging bee honey types (Centaurea hyalolepis and Citrus honeys) from Jordan. The antibiofilm and antimicrobial investigations were conducted on a set of seven microbial strains; five bacterial species of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145, Streptococcus pyogenes ATCC 19615, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883, and two fungal strains Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and Candida krusei ATCC 14243. The antimicrobial investigations revealed a broad spectrum activity for Trigona honey against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and fungal strains over the two honey types. One-way ANOVA showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) in the zone of inhibition ranging from 9 to 25 mm and minimum inhibition activity (MIC) ranged from 9.4–29.6% (w/v) against the microbial strains. Moreover, the addition of honey to established biofilms has induced a degradation activity in the biofilm mass. Two-way ANOVA showed a significant biofilm degradation proportion (p < 0.001) ranging from 1.3% to 91.3% following treatment with Trigona honey and the other honey types in relevance to the concentration ranging from 10% to 50% (w/v). Moreover, the antibiofilm activity was highly consistent with MIC affecting bacterial growth inhibition. In conclusion, a robust antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity for Trigona stingless bee honey over the stinging bee Centaurea hyalolepis and Citrus honeys is noticed which endows the usage of Trigona honey in the antimicrobial industry. In this study, the antibacterial activity of 10 honeys at three concentrations 50%, 25%, and 12.5% was tested against two G- and two G+ strains, also the microbiological quality of the honeys in terms of the representation of total count of bacteria, coliforms, yeasts, and filamentous fungi was evaluated, and micromycetes to the species level were identified. Antibacterial activity of the honeys was assayed using well diffusion method, determination of microbial groups by the pour plate method and diversity of mycobiota in honey according to macro- and micromorphological characteristics. Results showed the antibacterial effects of Slovak honey collected from the Spiš region, against bacterial strains Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Enterococcus faecalis, and Staphylococcus aureus, which are among the most common bacteria responsible for nosocomial infections. We found that honeydew honey was very effective against E. coli and S. aureus, rapeseed honey against P. fluorescens, and mixed honey (no. 10) against E. faecalis. Staphylococcus aureus was the most susceptible bacteria tested for all honeys. The presence of both yeasts and molds was detected in 3 honey samples at concentrations ranging from <4x101 to 3.6x101 CFU/g, while the total count of bacteria was detected in 9 samples at concentrations ranging from 2.3x101 to 3.6x102 CFU/g (in 1 sample, the occurrence of microorganisms was not recorded even at the lowest dilution of 10-1). Coliforms were not isolated. A total of 3 strains belonging to the Aspergillus section Nigri were identified. Here we present the palynological composition of a single sample of the elusive purple honey collected in southern North Carolina and discuss how it fits within a nearby statewide South Carolina melissopalynological study. 302 samples were collected by nineteen beekeepers participating in this year-long project, submitting honey samples while honeybees were actively collecting nectar. The absence of pollen of Pueraria (kudzu) in the purple honey dismisses the often-suggested link between the unique tint of the purple honey and kudzu's purple pollen. A second hypothesis hinting that the tint could be linked to ripened berries is not reinforced by our investigation as pollen of Ericaceae (eg blueberries) and Rosaceae (eg blackberries) were not found in the purple honey sample but were commonly found in classic golden honey analyzed. The presence of Vitis pollen supports the possibility that bees forage on wild muscadine grapes (Vitis rotundifolia) which was available in the foraging area. This study cannot discredit the possibility that bees were foraging on berry juices or other sugar sources containing purple pigments because these sources contain little or no pollen. A third hypothesis proposes a link between purple honey and the sourwood tree, Oxydendrum arboretum. This hypothesis is supported by this investigation as the dominant pollen type recovered in the purple honey was sourwood, with 19% in relative abundance, a significant percentage for this plant. Research on the food sources used by bees in agricultural landscapes is crucial to promote pollinator conservation measures in and around cultivated areas. This investigation aims to identify and quantify the pollen resources exploited by Schwarziana quadripunctata (Lepeletier 1836), assessing the trophic niche of this bee in agricultural areas with coffee plantations. Pollen analysis was conducted based on the pollen load of the corbiculae of 70 bees, sampled during the flowering period of two species of coffee trees in commercial plantations located in Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo states, Brazil, in 2019 and 2021. A total of 78 pollen types from 23 botanical families were identified, with Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora comprising 92% of the samples. Cestrum sp. (2.3% – Solanaceae), Fabaceae sp. 1 (0.9%), Solanum sp. (0.75% – Solanaceae) and Chamaecrista sp. (0.71% – Fabaceae) were the next most prevalent. The dominance of the coffee tree pollen confirms the floral constancy of S. quadripunctata during periods of intense flowering. Excluding coffee pollen, the most represented families were Solanaceae (46.6% of the samples), Fabaceae (27.5%), Rubiaceae (8.51%), and Meliaceae (2.53%). The findings reveal that S. quadripunctata actively forages from sources other than coffee, even during the intense flowering of these plants, highlighting the importance of floral resources in the proximity of plantations. The use of pollen sources beyond the coffee tree highlights the importance of conserving nearby forest fragments and maintaining a diverse array of plants surrounding coffee trees even during coffee flowering. This study was designed to investigate some physicochemical properties (color, electrical conductivity, ash, water-insoluble and mineral matter contents) of chestnut honey produced in the Ayancık, Türkeli and Erfelek regions of Sinop province, where chestnut forests are dense. The experimental data showed that most of the honey samples had different amber color tones. The electrical conductivity values and the amounts of water-insoluble matter for all chestnut honeys were determined above 0.8 mS/cm and below 0.1 g per 100 g, respectively. In addition, honey samples contained mainly potassium and calcium and other minerals such as magnesium, sodium, aluminum and iron. It has been demonstrated that these chestnut honeys are registered with Geographical Indication and meet the criteria required in the Turkish Food Codex Honey Communiqué of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Honey was reported numerous benefit containing nutritional ingredients and phytochemical such as polyphenol, flavonoid was widely used around the world. In this study, the physicochemical characteristics on the quality of coffee flower honey has been evaluated during storage. The honey was collected from Dak Lak, Buon Me Thuot, and Kon Tum province in Vietnam and stored at room temperature (30 -32°C) for 12 month. Total sugar, reducing sugar, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), acid value, total polyphenol content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) were evaluated for each two month to determine the quality of sensory quality and nutritional value. After 12 month storage time, the content of total sugar, and reducing sugar gradually decreased along with the increase of HMF and acid content in the coffee flower honey samples a lead to sweetness of honey is decrease, acidity, and color increase, which is a signal indicating a decline in sensory quality and nutritional value. The content of TPC and TFC increased during the first 6 -10 months of storage and then also tended to decrease, indicating that coffee flower honey should not be stored for too long (more than 10 months) because of phytochemicals reducing. Summary: This study investigated the variation in mineral elements in bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella Bentham) honeydew honeys produced biannually over three consecutive harvest years. The aim was to assess the relationship between the year of production and the concentration of fourteen rare earth elements and six trace elements analysed using ICP‐MS. The concentrations of the twenty elements varied (P < 0.001) among all the honey samples. The dominant rare earth elements were Eu, followed by Nd and La, while Pd and Au were the major trace elements. Cluster analysis (CA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were performed using all the elements identified. The LDA categorised (83.3% accuracy) the bracatinga honeydew honey samples according to their harvest year. Discriminant functions, influenced by Ce, Tb, and Th, show distinct elemental patterns in bracatinga honeydew honeys, varying with harvest year. This review aims to present current knowledge on the effects of honey bee products on animals based on in vivo studies, focusing on their application in clinical veterinary practice. Honey's best-proven effectiveness is in treating wounds, including those infected with antibiotic-resistant microorganisms, as evidenced in horses, cats, dogs, mice, and rats. Propolis manifested a healing effect in numerous inflammatory and painful conditions in mice, rats, dogs, and pigs and also helped in oncological cases in mice and rats. Bee venom is best known for its effectiveness in treating neuropathy and arthritis, as shown in dogs, mice, and rats. Besides, bee venom improved reproductive performance, immune response, and general health in rabbits, chickens, and pigs. Pollen was effective in stimulating growth and improving intestinal microflora in chickens. Royal jelly might be used in the management of animal reproduction due to its efficiency in improving fertility, as shown in rats, rabbits, and mice. Drone larvae are primarily valued for their androgenic effects and stimulation of reproductive function, as evidenced in sheep, chickens, pigs, and rats. Introduction: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of nasal and paranasal sinus mucosa where symptomatology has continued beyond 12 weeks. Manuka honey is made by bees that pollinate the native leptospermum scoparium bush (tea tree). Baby shampoo is a commercially available liquid solution containing multiple chemical surfactants that can act as a mucolytic and an antimicrobial agent. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients diagnosed with CRS were taken to be part of study. The modes of comparison used were the Rhinosinusitis Disability Index (RSDI) and a self-formulated Nasal Crusting Score (NCS). Individuals in Group A were given 5% Manuka Honey for nasal douching in both nasal cavities and those in Group B were given 10% Baby Shampoo. Observations and Results: The average RSDI scores in Group A before & after intervention were 75.40 and 30.04, an improvement of 60.15%. The same parameters in Group B was found to be 77.36 and 37.36, an improvement of 51.70%. The NCS improved by 83.46% in the Group A and by 77.61% in Group B between POD-2 and POD-5. Conclusion: As per literature available, both Manuka Honey and Baby Shampoo have improved the outcomes of Quality of Life and airway after FESS. We found that Manuka Honey is superior in clearing crusts and achieving better symptom clearance post FESS. Bee products, abundant in bioactive ingredients, have been utilized in both traditional and contemporary medicine. Their antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties make them valuable for food, preservation, and cosmetics applications. Honeybees are a vast reservoir of potentially beneficial products such as honey, bee pollen, bee bread, beeswax, bee venom, and royal jelly. These products are rich in metabolites vital to human health, including proteins, amino acids, peptides, enzymes, sugars, vitamins, polyphenols, flavonoids, and minerals. The advancement of nanotechnology has led to a continuous search for new natural sources that can facilitate the easy, low-cost, and eco-friendly synthesis of nanomaterials. Nanoparticles (NPs) are actively synthesized using honeybee products, which serve dual purposes in preventive and interceptive treatment strategies due to their richness in essential metabolites. This review aims to highlight the potential role of bee products in this line and their applications as catalysts and food preservatives and to point out their anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant underlying impacts. The research used several online databases, namely Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Sci Finder. The overall findings suggest that these bee-derived substances exhibit remarkable properties, making them promising candidates for the economical and eco-friendly production of NPs. This study aimed to present a sensitive, accurate, and precise analytical method for the determination of 32 antibiotics from 5 groups (sulfonamides, macrolides, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, and quinolones) and some individual antibiotics (lincomycin, griseofulvin, and 5-hydroxy-flunixin) in 63 honey samples collected from Tehran market. In the presented method, the samples were hydrolyzed by 1% HFBA (hepta fluoro butyric acid) in water, purified on Strata XL polymeric reversed-phase cartridges, and finally analyzed by reversed-phase ion-pair liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (RP-IP-LC-ESI-MS/MS). Good performance characteristics were gained for recovery, precision, range, and linearity, the limit of detections (LODs), and the limit of quantifications (LOQs). According to the presented results and considering the absence of permissible limits for antibiotics in honey, 74.6% of the tested samples had antibiotic residues more than the LOQ of the method. The growing activity in the textile industry has been demanding the search for new and innovative technologies to meet consumers' needs regarding more sustainable and ecological processes, with functionality receiving more attention. Bee products are known for their wide spectra of properties, including antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Propolis and honey are the most popular and used since ancient times for the most diverse applications due to their health benefits. With the increasing need for safer and more sustainable practices, the use of natural products for the functional finishing process can be a suitable alternative due to their safety and eco-friendly nature. For that, a biosolution, composed of a mixture of propolis and honey in water, was used to perform the functional finishing of cotton knits, both in the presence and in the absence of potassium alum as a chemical mordant. The fastness strength was also evaluated after three washing cycles. The antioxidant potential of the biosolution, assessed with the in vitro ABTS scavenging assay, provided textiles with the capacity to reduce more than 90% of the ABTS radical, regardless of the mordant presence and even after three washing cycles. Furthermore, biofunctional textiles decreased the growth of Bacillus subtilis, Propionibacterium acnes, Escherichia coli, and, particularly, Staphylococcus aureus cultures after 24 h of incubation with an increase in antibacterial activity when potassium alum was used. These findings show that bee products are promising and effective alternatives to be used in the textile industry to confer antioxidant and antibacterial properties to cotton textiles, thereby enhancing human health. This study aimed to experimentally investigate the effect of sugar syrup additions on quality measurements of honey and to detect adulteration. For that purpose, two different pure blossom honey samples were adulterated by directly mixing 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% of commercially available glucose–fructose corn syrup and maltose corn syrup. In this regard, key physico-chemical properties like moisture, pH, free acidity, proline, diastase number, color (L, a, b and Delta-E), electrical conductivity, HMF, sugar profile (glucose, fructose, sucrose and maltose), and C4 sugar analysis were tested. The results of the individual analysis of moisture, pH, free acidity, proline, diastase number, color, electrical conductivity, and HMF failed to detect sugar syrup adulteration. However, when principal component analysis (PCA) was utilized to analyze the data gathered from these tests, adulterations at all-syrup ratios (5–50%) were successfully detected. Bee Propolis has been used for its therapeutic properties, including anti‐inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and immune‐stimulating properties, for centuries as a functional food. This study reviewed the effectiveness of propolis as a functional food on oral‐related diseases as a rich bioflavonoid produced by honey bees. A literature search was conducted to identify studies published that investigated the effects of propolis on oral health and its ability to treat related diseases. The search was performed in electronic databases using relevant keywords. Initially, 3429 studies were identified through database searching, and based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 22 articles were eligible to be included. Reviewing the articles, propolis was recognized as a functional food and promising agent to balance oral microbiota and prevent oral diseases due to its effectiveness on related bacteria, its anti‐inflammatory properties, and its activity against Porphyromonas gingivalis and Actinomyces Oris allowed it to be an effective substance to prevent periodontal diseases. Based on our findings, Propolis is a desirable preventive option for various oral health conditions, including dental caries and periodontal diseases. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), an advanced form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has emerged as the leading cause of liver failure and related death. Currently, no medication is specifically approved to treat NAFLD or NASH. Here we report that oral administration of honey vesicle-like nanoparticles (H-VLNs) to naturally aged mice protects the liver from NASH development. H-VLNs are dominantly taken up by Kupffer cells in the liver and suppress hepatic chronic inflammation and further development of fibrosis and nodule formation in aged mice. Besides their reported anti-inflammasome function, H-VLNs are found to inhibit the transcriptional activities of C-JUN and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF- κ B). MicroRNAs miR5119 and miR5108 and phenolic compound luteolin in H-VLNs are identified in suppressing both the C-JUN and NF- κ B pathways. Collectively, oral intake of H-VLNs represents a promising new user-friendly modality to prevent the development of NASH. Oral administered H-VLNs alleviated inflammation, fibrosis development, and nodule formation in naturally aged liver. Türkiye, with its rich flora diversity, holds a significant share in global honey production. However, honey bee populations, essential for agricultural ecosystems, face multifaceted threats such as climate change, habitat degradation, diseases, parasites, and exposure to pesticides. Alongside the increasing global food demand driven by population growth, there is a pressing need for a substantial increase in honey production. In this context, advances in machine learning algorithms offer tools to predict future food needs and production levels. The objective of this work is to develop a predictive model using machine learning techniques to predict Türkiye's honey output in the next years. To achieve this goal, a range of machine learning algorithms including K-Nearest Neighbor, Random Forest, Linear Regression, and Gaussian Naive Bayes were employed. A simple sol–gel combustion process was employed for the creation of MFe2O4 (M=Ni, Co) nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles, acting as both photocatalysts and gas sensors, were analyzed using various analytical techniques. MFe2O4 (M=Ni, Co) material improved the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV-light irradiation, serving as an enhanced electron transport medium. UV–vis studies demonstrated that NiFe2O4 achieved a 60% degradation, while CoFe2O4 nanostructure exhibited a 76% degradation efficacy in the MB dye removal process. Furthermore, MFe2O4 (M=Ni, Co) demonstrated chemosensitive-type sensor capabilities at ambient temperature. The sensor response and recovery times for CoFe2O4 at a concentration of 100 ppm were 15 and 20, respectively. Overall, the synthesis of MFe2O4 (M=Ni, Co) holds the potential to significantly improve the photocatalytic and gas sensing properties, particularly enhancing the performance of CoFe2O4. Honey authentication is a complex process which traditionally requires costly and time-consuming analytical techniques not readily available to the producers. This study aimed to develop non-invasive sensor methods coupled with a multivariate data analysis to detect the type and percentage of exogenous sugar adulteration in UK honeys. Through-container spatial offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS) was employed on 17 different types of natural honeys produced in the UK over a season. These samples were then spiked with rice and sugar beet syrups at the levels of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 50% w/w. The data acquired were used to construct prediction models for 14 types of honey with similar Raman fingerprints using different algorithms, namely PLS-DA, XGBoost, and Random Forest, with the aim to detect the level of adulteration per type of sugar syrup. The best-performing algorithm for classification was Random Forest, with only 1% of the pure honeys misclassified as adulterated and <3.5% of adulterated honey samples misclassified as pure. Random Forest was further employed to create a classification model which successfully classified samples according to the type of adulterant (rice or sugar beet) and the adulteration level. In addition, SORS spectra were collected from 27 samples of heather honey (24 Calluna vulgaris and 3 Erica cinerea) produced in the UK and corresponding subsamples spiked with high fructose sugar cane syrup, and an exploratory data analysis with PCA and a classification with Random Forest were performed, both showing clear separation between the pure and adulterated samples at medium (40%) and high (60%) adulteration levels and a 90% success at low adulteration levels (20%). The results of this study demonstrate the potential of SORS in combination with machine learning to be applied for the authentication of honey samples and the detection of exogenous sugars in the form of sugar syrups. There is a demand from the scientific, beekeeping and consumer sectors to characterize honey based on its botanical origin, as it provides unique and distinctive properties. Nevertheless, existing studies on the physicochemical properties and the sensorial profile of honey in relation to botanical origin remain insufficient. This study aimed to understand the relationships between sensory profile and various chemical compounds (minerals, sugars, water content and volatiles) of three monofloral honeys (Atractylis serratuloides, Retama sphaerocarpa and Eruca sativa) produced in Algeria using principal component analysis. Crystallization was detected as a distinctive attribute of Eruca and Atractylis honey. A candy aroma and odor with floral nuances, light color, crystallized state and the volatile compounds Alpha-Bisabolol and Beta-eudesmol characterized the Atractylis honey. Eruca honeys were distinguished by an animal and degraded odor, bitter taste, light color and the presence of Dimethyl trisulfide and Dimethyl tetrasulfide. Finally, a vegetal aroma, some saltiness and sourness, dark amber color, lower sugar content, higher K content and Lilac aldehyde and Lilac aldehyde D characterized Retama honeys.
