W ujęciu doktrynalnym ruina jest postrzegana jako pełnoprawny zabytek, o autonomicznych wartościach. Natomiast charakter wysoce polemiczny z doktryną i teorią ma praktyka wyrażająca się w konkretnych ingerencjach w substancję zabytkową i otoczenie zabytku. Można powiedzieć, że cały okres powojenny, to okres afirmacji, pochwały odbudowy. Hasło odbudowy zakorzeniło się, jako pozytywne i twórcze. Dla realizacji koncepcji doktrynalnej ochrony ruin celowe jest przywrócenie społecznej umiejętności postrzegania piękna ruin historycznych, jako znaków w krajobrazie. Celowe jest edukowanie społeczności na ile ruiny bez własnej funkcji użytkowej mogą być jednak użyteczne, jako atrakcja regionalna, magnes przyciągający turystów i budzący wyobraźnię. To duże wyzwanie dla specjalistów z zakresu ochrony dóbr kultury, którzy nie tylko powinni dogłębnie poznawać doktryny konserwatorskie, rozumieć istotę zabytku, ale także zaznajamiać się z technikami informacyjnymi, edukacyjnymi i negocjacyjnymi, by móc mieć wpływ na podejmowane decyzje o losach kolejnych zabytków, w tym szczególnie ruin historycznych. From the doctrinal take, ruin is perceived as a full-fledged historical monument representing autonomous values. Highly polemic against the doctrine and theory is the practice expressed in concrete interventions in the substance and surroundings of a historical monument. It can thus be stated that the entire post-war period was one of affirmation and praise of the Rebuilding/ Reconstruction/Restoration project. The Rebuild slogan has taken root as a positive and creative idea. In order to implement the doctrinal concept of the protection of ruins, there is a purpose behind restoring the social skill of perceiving the beauty of historical ruins as signs in the landscape. And, there is a purpose in educating the community in terms of to what extent ruins, without a useful function of their own, may be useful or useable anyway – as a regional attraction, a imagination-inspiring magnet attracting tourists. This poses a considerable challenge to experts in cultural goods protection: not only should they demonstrate an in-depth recognition of restoration/conservation doctrines but also render themselves acquainted with information, educational, and negotiation techniques – in order to contribute to the decisions regarding the lot of historical monuments, historical ruins in particular.

Zamek, dominujący w widokach północnego wybrzeża wyspy stał się celem wędrówek romantycznych turystów. Decydujące prace konserwatorskie przeprowadził Peter Hauberg w latach 1885 – 1928, programowo powstrzymując się od rekonstrukcji. Funkcje recepcyjne pomieszczono w zabudowaniach opodal ruin. Polityka ochronna prowadzona od 1907 r. wiązała się z wykupem terenów wokół zamku i systematycznym usuwaniem okolicznych budowli. W 1969r. koncepcję centrum informacyjnego, ukrytego w krajobrazie stworzył Jørn Utzon. W 2013 podjęto realizację jego koncepcji. Projekt opracował duński zespół Arkitema, we współpracy z Buro Happold, i Ch. Harlangiem. Nowoczesne centrum interpretacji zabytku oddane do użytku w 2018 r. jest odsunięte od ruin i ukryte w formach terenu. Ochrona zamku Hammershus jest podporządkowana zachowaniu jego historycznej formy – trwałej ruiny. Jest również prowadzona w sferze krajobrazowej. Nowe centrum recepcyjne zlokalizowano i zaprojektowano tak, by nie konkurowało z formą historyczną i krajobrazem. Model zarządzania zamku Hammershus to przykład dobrej praktyki w ochronie dziedzictwa kulturowego i zabytkowych ruin. Istotą jest wykorzystanie atrakcyjności ruiny historycznej, jako obiektu przyciągającego odwiedzających oraz oddalenie współczesnych funkcji komercyjnych od zabytku wraz ze stworzeniem nowych możliwości kontemplacji zabytku oraz rygorystyczną ochroną krajobrazu., Hammershus is a medieval Danish castle on the Bornholm island. In 1743 Hammershus was finally abandoned as a stronghold. The fortress was partially demolished around 1750. The ruins were put on the national historic register in 1822. From 1885, until his death in 1928, P. C. Hauberg was in charge of the extensive restoration work. After that, the castle remained a picturesque ruin. The conservation policy, which was taken from 1907, includes the purchase of land around the castle and systematic removal of the surrounding buildings. In 1969 Jørn Utzon created the concept of the information center hidden in the landscape. In 2013, his concept was implemented. The project was developed by the Danish team Arkitema, in cooperation with Buro Happold, and Ch. Harlang. The modern information center put into use in 2018. Building is removed from the ruins and hidden in the nearby slope. The protection of Hammershus Castle is subordinated to preserving its historical form - a permanent ruin. It is also conducted in the landscape sphere. The new reception center was located and designed so as to not compete with the historical ruin and landscape. The Hammershus castle management model is an example of good practice in protecting cultural heritage and historic ruins. The main point is to use the attractiveness of the historical ruins, as an object that attracts visitors.The remoteness of modern commercial functions from the monument create new possibilities for contemplating the castle ruins and contributes to strict landscape protection.

vol.16(4) (2017) 181-194, Historical ruins have long been the object of interest for the research –workers of various disciplines as well as the conservators of historical monuments. The main problem is the form of protection. The standard of protecting ruins in the so-called permanent ruin form was elaborated two centuries ago, however, it is still the subject of numerous discussions, conferences, scientific-research works. The main source of doubts as to the permanent ruin is its incompleteness,(deficiency) illegibility and the highly restricted possibilities of making any use of it, whereas the contemporary protection of monuments assumes their accessibility and the widest possible use for contemporary functions. That is why the main issue in contemporary maintenance of historical ruins is to ensure them a proper management system. The problem of protecting historical ruins has universal character. In Poland it concerns the resources of about 200 historical ruins, first and foremost of the mediaeval castles. That is why the Polish conservator circles have intensified the works aiming at the solution of the problem through the organization of programs, projects and conferences. A highly estimated result of those efforts is a programmatic document entitled “The Protection Charter of Historical Ruins”. It comprises a set of rules that determine the form of maintenance of historical ruins. However, the issues of management, development and use of the historical ruins still await a solution.

Ljetni je semestar započeo s idejom da se pod vodstvom naših nastavnika gospodina Ivana Muhovca i gospodina Matije Oreškovića studenti upute na dvodnevnu stručnu ekskurziju krajem travnja. Očekujući velebne i raskošno uređene građevine pune stranih turista, ostali smo ugodno iznenađeni malim crkvicama od kojih nam je zastajao dah te rustikalnim bunjama i posve skromnim, tajnovitim naseljima. Profesori su nas, organiziravši nam ovu ekskurziju, oduševili svojim neiscrpnim znanjem i vještinom snalaženja u prostoru te moram priznati izvrsnom kondicijom. Dakako, dokazali su nam da svaka građevina, pa i ona mala i skromna, ima ono nešto što je čini specifičnom, lijepom i nadasve vrijednom. Nadam se da će naši dojmovi potaknuti nekoga da posjetiti ove lokalitete, jer to zaista vrijedi vidjeti., The summer semester has brought up the idea of a two-day field trip in April, guided by professor Ivan Muhovec and Mr Matija Orešković. We expected to see striking historical buildings overcrowded by foreign tourists but what we actually visited were breathtaking little churches, rustic corbel stone-huts and tucked away villages. By organizing this inspiring field trip, our professors have passed on their inexhaustible knowledge on cultural, historical and construction aspect of these edifices. We marvelled at their good physical shape as well a great feeling for orientation in the area. They have proved us that every structure, no matter how tiny and modest in its shape, has something that makes it very special and valuable. I hope that our positive experience from this trip will inspire others to visit these localities as they are truly worth a visit.
