Objective: Our study aimed to assess the ability of high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic Score (HS-mGPS) predicting survival in patients undergoing radical surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to compare the impact with other Inflammation-Based prognostic scoring systems including Glasgow prognostic Score (GPS) and modified GPS (mGPS). Methods: Our study evaluated 293 patients with HCC who had undergone hepatectomy at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University between 2010 and 2018. The HS-mGPS, mGPS, and GPS were calculated based on particular cut-off values of preoperative C-reactive protein and albumin, and the correlations between HS-mGPS and clinicopathological parameters were evaluated. Univariate and multivariate survival analyses were conducted by Kaplan–Meier method and Cox proportional hazards model. To evaluate the discrimination ability of each prognostic score, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were generated and the areas under the curve (AUC) were measured and compared. Result: The study results indicated a correlation between elevated HS-mGPS scores and adverse clinical factors, including higher BCLC stage, C-P grade, multiple tumors, and larger tumor diameter. Kaplan-Meier and univariate survival analyses revealed that higher scores of HS-mGPS, GPS, and mGPS were all associated with significantly reduced overall survival (OS) (all p < 0.001). In multivariate survival analysis, HS-mGPS emerged as an independent risk factor for poor OS in patients undergoing hepatectomy for HCC (p = 0.010), along with factors including maximal tumor diameter (p < 0.001), microvascular invasion (MVI) (p = 0.008), and BCLC stage (p = 0.001). The analysis of ROC curves and the AUC values indicated that HS-mGPS outperforms GPS and mGPS in predicting the long-term prognosis of patients with resectable HCC. We compared the usefulness of the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score (HS-mGPS) and mGPS in predicting oncological outcomes in patients with soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) who underwent primary surgical tumour resection.Methods: Between 2002 and 2018, 144 patients were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 63 years. The mean follow-up period was 76 months.Results: The disease-specific survival (DSS) at five years was 71.5% in all patients. When patients were divided into three groups according to the HS-mGPS and mGPS, those with a score of 1 or 2 had a poorer DSS than those with a score of 0, respectively. When we compared the survival rate among the 98 patients with both HS-mGPS and mGPS of 0 and 21 patients with HS-mGPS of 1 and mGPS of 0, there was no significant difference in the prognosis. The suitability of the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (HS-mGPS) in cancer patients remains unknown. We performed a systematic database search from 1 January 2010 to 30 September 2022, in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Selected studies reported the HS-mGPS and survival outcomes in cancer patients. The association between the HS-mGPS and survival outcomes was evaluated using a random-effects model and expressed as pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% CIs. This meta-analysis evaluated 17 studies with a total of 5828 cancer patients. A higher HS-mGPS was found to be associated with an adverse OS (HR = 2.17; 95% CI: 1.80–2.60), DSS (HR = 3.81; 95% CI: 2.03–7.17), and DFS (HR = 1.96; 95% CI: 1.48–2.58; all p ≤ 0.001). The prognostic value of the HS-mGPS for the OS trended in a consistent direction after subgrouping and sensitivity analysis. In conclusion, the HS-mGPS serves as a valid prognostic biomarker for cancer patients, with a high HS-mGPS associated with adverse survival outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Several studies have demonstrated that the preoperative Glasgow prognostic score (GPS) and modified GPS (mGPS) reflected the prognosis in patients undergoing curative surgery for colorectal cancer. However, there are no reports on long-term prognosis prediction using high-sensitivity mGPS (HS-GPS) in colorectal cancer. Therefore, this study aimed to calculate the prognostic value of preoperative HS-GPS in patients with colon cancer. Methods A cohort of 595 patients with advanced resectable colon cancer managed at our institution was analysed retrospectively. HS-GPS, GPS, and mGPS were evaluated for their ability to predict prognosis based on overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Results In the univariate analysis, HS-GPS was able to predict the prognosis with significant differences in OS but was not superior in assessing RFS. In the multivariate analysis of the HS-GPS model, age, pT, pN, and HS-GPS of 2 compared to HS-GPS of 0 (2 vs 0; hazard ratio [HR], 2.638; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.046–6.650; P = 0.04) were identified as independent prognostic predictors of OS. In the multivariate analysis of the GPS model, GPS 2 vs 0 (HR, 1.444; 95% CI, 1.018–2.048; P = 0.04) and GPS 2 vs 1 (HR, 2.933; 95% CI, 1.209–7.144; P = 0.017), and in that of the mGPS model, mGPS 2 vs 0 (HR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.066–2.140; P = 0.02) were independent prognostic predictors of OS. In each classification, GPS outperformed HS-GPS in predicting OS with a significant difference in the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. In the multivariate analysis of the GPS model, GPS 2 vs 0 (HR, 1.537; 95% CI, 1.190–1.987; P = 0.002), and in that of the mGPS model, pN, CEA were independent prognostic predictors of RFS. Aim: We probed the prognostic value of the preoperative high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score (HS-mGPS), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) for patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) to identify patients with the highest risk of having poor survival outcomes. Materials and Methods: We executed a retrospective assessment of the records of 303 patients with OSCC who had been subjected to curative surgery between January 2008 and December 2017. The HS-mGPS was categorized using C-reactive protein and albumin thresholds of 3 mg/L and 35 g/L, respectively. Moreover, receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were executed to find out the optimal PLR and NLR cutoffs. We plotted survival curves and compared them through the use of the Kaplan–Meier method and log-rank test, respectively. Through a Cox proportional hazard model, we identified prognostic variables. We also plotted a nomogram comprising the HS-mGPS and clinicopathological factors and assessed its performance with the concordance index. Results: The PLR and NLR cutoffs were 119.34 and 4.51, respectively. We noted an HS-mGPS of 1−2 to be associated with a shorter median overall survival (OS) and disease-fee survival (DFS) compared with an HS-mGPS of 0. Multivariate analysis revealed that an HS-mGPS of 1−2 and an NLR of ≥4.51 were independent risk factors related to poor OS and DFS. The HS-mGPS appeared to have better prognostic effect than did the PLR and NLR, and the combination of the HS-mGPS and NLR appeared to exhibit optimal discriminative ability for OS prognostication. The nomogram based on the HS-mGPS and NLR yielded accurate OS prediction (concordance index = 0.803). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that preoperative HS-mGPS is a promising prognostic biomarker of OSCC, and the nomogram comprising the HS-mGPS and NLR provided accurate individualized OSCC survival predictions. Objective: The present study compared the prognostic value of the Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), modified GPS (mGPS), high-sensitivity mGPS (HS-mGPS), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), prognostic index (PI), and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in patients with resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 327 consecutive patients with resectable NSCLC with a follow.-up period. >5. years. Initially, the HS-mGPS was directly compared with the GPS and mGPS in terms of their ability to predict survival in patients with resectable NSCLC. Second, inflammation.-based scores, including the HS-mGPS, NLR, PLR, PI, and PNI, were analyzed preoperatively using multivariate Cox analysis. Clinical characteristics reflecting cancer progression were also analyzed.Results: Elevated GPS (P < 0.001), mGPS (P < 0.001), and HS-mGPS (P < 0.001) levels were associated with reduced overall survival. The HS-mGPS (P < 0.001) was superior to the GPS and mGPS (P = 0.884) as a prognostic marker of postoperative outcomes. On multivariate Cox analysis, age (P = 0.026), p-T status (P < 0.001), p-N status (P < 0.001), lymphatic vessel invasion (P = 0.008), and the HS-mGPS (P = 0.016) were independent prognostic factors for survival.Conclusion: These results suggest that the HS-mGPS might have a greater prognostic impact than the GPS, mGPS, NLR, PLR, PI, or PNI in patients with resectable NSCLC. Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the superiority of the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score (HS-mGPS) before surgery in patients with gastric cancer. Patients and Methods: The participants of this retrospective study comprised 552 patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy at the Fukuoka University Hospital. The HS-mGPS was calculated before surgery based on cutoff values of 0.3 mg/dl for C-reactive protein and 3.5 g/dl for albumin, and correlations between the HS-mGPS and the clinicopathological parameters and prognosis were evaluated. In addition, the superiority of the HS-mGPS to the mGPS as a prognostic indicator was examined in detail. Results: The mGPS was 0 in 494 patients, 1 in 24 patients and 2 in 34 patients. In contrast, the HS-mGPS was 0 in 411 patients, 1 in 75 patients and 2 in 66 patients. Both the mGPS (p < 0.0001) and HS-mGPS (p < 0.0001) were good prognostic predictors in gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy. Of the 494 patients with an mGPS of 0 before surgery, 51 and 32 exhibited an HS-mGPS of 1 and 2, respectively. The patients who exhibited migration in the HS-mGPS demonstrated a significantly more unfavorable prognosis than the patients with an HS-mGPS of 0 (p < 0.0001). The prognostic impact of the HS-mGPS was especially clear in stage I and IV patients (p = 0.0027, p = 0.017). The HS-mGPS was found to be a superior prognostic predictor compared to the mGPS in a multivariate analysis (p = 0.0002). Objective: To determine whether the modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS) and high-sensitivity mGPS (HS-mGPS) could predict outcomes among patients with hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC)., Study Design: Retrospective cohort study., Setting: Affiliated university hospital., Methods: We reviewed the records of 115 patients with histologically confirmed HSCC between March 2007 and December 2019. Univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazard analyses were performed for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS)., Results: The 5-year OS rates were 84.0% for the mGPS0 group, 47.8% for the mGPS1 group, and 17.9% for the mGPS2 group ( P < .0001), while the 5-year OS rates were 86.7% for the HS-mGPS0 group, 69.0% for the HS-mGPS1 group, and 22.2% for the HS-mGPS2 group ( P < .001). The mGPS and HS-mGPS were both associated with OS in the univariate analyses, although only the HS-mGPS was independently associated with OS (hazard ratio, 2.68 [95% CI, 1.19-6.05]; P < .05). The 5-year DFS rates were 75.8% for the mGPS0 group, 53.0% for the mGPS1 group, and 13.8% for the mGPS2 group ( P < .001), while the 5-year DFS rates were 79.8% for the HS-mGPS0 group, 56.8% for the HS-mGPS1 group, and 11.6% for the HS-mGPS2 group ( P < .001). Objective: There is increasing evidence that the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic scores are inflammatory indices that can predict survival for many cancer types. However, there is limited information regarding their prognostic values in cases of head and neck cancer. This study aimed to evaluate whether the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic scores could predict outcomes among patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPC)., Study Design: Retrospective study., Setting: University hospital., Methods: We reviewed the records of 106 patients with histologically confirmed OPC between March 2009 and June 2020. The high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic scores were calculated as 0 (C-reactive protein [CRP] concentration: ≤0.3 mg/dL), 1 (CRP concentration >0.3 mg/dL and albumin concentration ≥3.5 mg/dL), or 2 (CRP concentration >0.3 mg/dL and albumin concentration <3.5 mg/dL). Univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazard analyses were performed for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS)., Results: Forty-four of these patients had human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive OPC, and 62 had HPV-negative OPC, and these populations were analyzed separately. The high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score was significantly associated with age, performance status, and HPV. On univariate analysis, high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score showed associations with OS and DFS in both subpopulations. Moreover, on multivariable analysis, the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score showed associations with OS and DFS in both subpopulations. Simple Summary: Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in men. Prostate cancer is characterized by an early response to hormonal therapy and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is useful for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment evaluation. However, if the patient becomes resistant to treat and develops castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), it is difficult to predict prognosis and evaluate response to treatment using PSA alone. In this study, we found that the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score (Hs-mGPS), an inflammatory response score, is a more powerful prognostic factor for CRPC than the modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS) previously studied. Furthermore, we suggest that risk classification using Hs-mGPS, PSA, and testosterone (TST) may be a useful tool to predict the prognosis of late staged CRPC. The Glasgow prognostic score, a marker of systemic inflammation, is associated with clinical outcomes in different cancers including prostate cancer. However, there is no evidence for the relationship between the high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score (Hs-mGPS) in prostate cancer and its prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of Hs-mGPS in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) treated with docetaxel. We retrospectively analyzed clinical datasets from 131 CRPC patients who received docetaxel treatment at Chiba University Hospital and a related hospital. Clinical factors including Hs-mGPS before docetaxel treatment were evaluated according to overall survival. The numbers of patients with Hs-mGPS of 0, 1, and 2 were 88, 30, and 13, respectively. The median prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level was 28.9 ng/mL. The median testosterone level was 13.0 ng/dL. The percentages of bone and visceral metastases were 80.8% and 10.2%, respectively. For overall survival, Hs-mGPS ≥ 1 (hazard ratio of 2.41; p = 0.0048), testosterone ≥ 13.0 ng/dL (hazard ratio of 2.23; p = 0.0117), and PSA ≥ 28.9 ng/mL (hazard ratio of 2.36; p = 0.0097) were significant poor prognostic factors in the multivariate analysis. The results of the two-group analysis showed that a higher Hs-mGPS was associated with high PSA, alkaline phosphatase, and testosterone levels. The median testosterone levels for Hs-mGPS of 0, 1, and 2 were 9.0, 16.5, and 23.0, respectively. Based on the multivariate analysis, we created a combined score with three prognostic factors: Hs-mGPS, testosterone, and PSA. The low-risk group (score of 0–1) showed a significantly longer overall survival compared to the intermediate-risk (score of 2–3) and high-risk (score of 4) groups (p < 0.0001). Our results demonstrated that an elevated Hs-mGPS was an independent prognostic factor in CRPC patients treated with docetaxel therapy. Background: There is increasing evidence that the inflammatory indices of modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS) and high-sensitivity mGPS (HS-mGPS) play important roles in predicting the survival in many cancer; however, evidence supporting such an association in head and neck cancer (HNC) is scarce., Materials and Methods: We evaluated the impact of the mGPS and HS-mGPS on the overall survival (OS) in 129 patients with HNC treated at Aichi Cancer Center Central Hospital from 2012-2013. The mGPS was calculated as follows: mGPS of 0, C-reactive protein (CRP) ≤1.0 mg/dl; 1, CRP >1.0 mg/dl; 2, CRP>1.0 mg/dl and albumin <3.5 mg/dl. Regarding the HS-mGPS, the CRP threshold level was set as 0.3 mg/dl. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were estimated by Cox proportional hazard models after adjusting for potential confounders., Results: The prognosis of HNC worsened significantly as both the mGPS and HS-mGPS increased in a univariate analysis. After adjusting for covariates, the HS-mGPS was significantly associated with the OS (adjusted HR for HS-mGPS of 2 compared to an HS-mGPS of 0 [HR score2-0 ] 3.14 [95% CI: 1.23-8.07], P trend < 0.001), while the mGPS was suggested to be associated with the survival (HR score2-0 2.37 [95% CI:0.89-6.33], P trend = 0.145).
