The potential of heavy-haul train platoon operation technology in improving railway freight capacity is increasingly recognised, with extensive trial research currently underway. This study firstly utilising longitudinal train dynamics devised a space–time collaborative collision avoidance model for trainsets, accounting for air brake delay. Secondly, an air brake application strategy was proposed, focusing on collision avoidance and managing speeds on steep ramps. Subsequently, a constraint-driven optimal control scheme tailored for heavy-haul train platooning operations within an open railway environment was developed, which simulates train platooning amidst real-world dynamic traffic flow scenarios, offering a global perspective on railway network operations. Finally, we comprehensively evaluate the impact of line conditions on key platoon control parameters based on realistic railway operation scenarios. Findings show that constraint-driven optimal control, integrating train dynamics and space–time collaborative collision avoidance, effectively replicates the dynamic traits of train platoons. The consideration of air braking delays is crucial due to heterogeneous train formations and steep ramps, which can easily cause collisions. Moreover, on real-world railway lines, the average headway of heavy-haul trains weighing 10,000 tons and below can be compressed to 99.82 s when operating in platoons, significantly enhancing transportation capacity compared to existing semi-automatic blocking systems. As railway transportation advances towards higher speeds and increased axle loads, the fatigue damage between wheels and rails has become more severe, significantly limiting the service life and safety of trains. Therefore, developing upgrade wheel-rail materials with enhanced contact fatigue properties has been considered an effective approach to avoid damage. This study reports a newly developed heavy-haul wheel steel with a superior rolling contact fatigue performance and the fatigue damage of wheel was studied by a novel RCF tester with a vision system. The results indicate that the newly developed heavy-haul wheel steel (NW) consists of smaller pearlite layer spacing and reduced proeutectoid ferrite. The NW steel demonstrates outstanding fatigue resistance in both oil and dry conditions, with a fatigue life 2.7 times longer than CL65 wheel steel and superior performance compared to most typical wheel steels. With increasing in pearlite content and decreasing in pearlitic interlamellar spacing, the fatigue damage degree of wheels under oil or dry contact conditions decreases obviously, leading to a significant enhancement in fatigue life. Properly controlling the pearlite content and the interlamellar spacing can optimize the fatigue properties of wheel materials. The vision system observed that the average area and perimeter of the defects gradually increased on the sample surface. The shape of the defect became more rounded under oil contact conditions but showed the opposite result in dry contact. When subjected to cyclic loading, surface cracks propagated along various paths after initiation, eventually forming different morphologies of peeling. The results will not only help optimize wheel materials for heavy-haul railways, but also offer an effective means for analyzing damage evolution in wheel-rail contact. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Elastic pads used in heavy-haul railways are prone to fatigue failure due to the large loadbearing forces. To address issues of stress concentration and low damping capacity in existing pads, the study proposed a new mesh-type elastic pad designed to improve both stress distribution and damping characteristics. In order to explore the feasibility of applying the mesh-type elastic pad in heavy-haul railway fastening systems and to verify its superiority over traditional pads, finite element models for both the existing elastic pads and the new mesh-type elastic pad, designed for type II fastener system, were established. Under identical stiffness conditions, a comparative analysis was conducted on vertical stiffness, lateral stiffness, and stress distribution characteristics of mesh-type, grooved and prismatic elastic pads. The results showed that the mesh-type elastic pad exhibited a more uniform stress and strain distribution, with maximum stress reduced by about 30% compared to the grooved and prismatic elastic pads. This pad also demonstrated superior mechanical properties and vertical stiffness retention. Under lateral loading, the mesh-type pad showed lower lateral stiffness than the prismatic pad, more similar to the grooved pad. Rail corrugation is a common form of rail damage discovered when servicing heavy-haul railways that seriously affects the safety of wheel–rail systems. To determine the characteristics of the deterioration of a corrugated heavy-haul railway, this study used ABAQUS simulation software to establish a three-dimensional elastic–plastic wheel–rail finite element model. We then simulated the stress and strain distributions of wheel–rail contact spots as C80 freight cars pass through various corrugated sections of heavy-haul railways, featuring different wavelengths and wave depths. The simulation results demonstrated that the stress and strain increase from the peak positions to the troughs, reaching a maximum somewhere behind the troughs, and then decreasing to the next peak. The stress and strain increase as the depth of corrugation increases. The wheel–rail contact exhibits a maximum stress of 1.312 to 1.770 GPa, and the maximum strain is 0.6470% to 0.9897%. Wheel–rail contact stress and strain occur at a maximum of 8–40 mm after the troughs, rather than at the trough position, forming "planing and rolling" effects. This mechanism revealed by the variation in the stress and strain distributions in this study provides a reference for the in-depth analysis of rail corrugation deterioration and for the exploration of the mechanisms of corrugation deterioration of heavy-haul railways. Laying the under-sleeper pad (USP) is one of the effective measures commonly used to delay ballast degradation and reduce maintenance workload. To explore the impact of application of the USP on the dynamic and static mechanical behavior of the ballast track in the heavy-haul railway system, numerical simulation models of the ballast bed with USP and without USP are presented in this paper by using the discrete element method (DEM)—multi-flexible body dynamic (MFBD) coupling analysis method. The ballast bed support stiffness test and dynamic displacement tests were carried out on the actual operation of a heavy-haul railway line to verify the validity of the models. The results show that using the USP results in a 43.01% reduction in the ballast bed support stiffness and achieves a more uniform distribution of track loads on the sleepers. It effectively reduces the load borne by the sleeper directly under the wheel load, with a 7.89% reduction in the pressure on the sleeper. Furthermore, the laying of the USP changes the lateral resistance sharing ratio of the ballast bed, significantly reducing the stress level of the ballast bed under train loads, with an average stress reduction of 42.19 kPa. It also reduces the plastic displacement of ballast particles and lowers the peak value of rotational angular velocity by about 50% to 70%, which is conducive to slowing down ballast bed settlement deformation and reducing maintenance costs. Any system for evaluating the safety service performance of heavy-haul railway lines must effectively reflect the real-time service status of the line. The working conditions of heavy-load lines are complex and diverse, particularly on uphill sections. Existing evaluation systems struggle to accurately reflect the service conditions of long and steep uphill sections bearing heavy loads, posing a significant threat to the safe operation of these lines. To address this problem, we propose a new method for evaluating the safety service performance of long and steep uphill sections of heavy-haul railway lines by establishing a scoring system based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). First, damage indicators for heavy-haul lines are categorized into three groups: track geometry status indicators, track structure status indicators, and track traffic status indicators. Using data from existing heavy-haul lines and maintenance experiences, we determine a score deduction standard, classifying lines into four levels based on their safety service quality. Next, we establish a coefficient table for the service performance of long and steep uphill sections after the corresponding scores are deducted. Using data for the length and elevation grade of the actual uphill section, we adjust the deducted scores of the track structure status indicators, enhancing the evaluation system's accuracy in describing the working conditions. Finally, we verify the stability of the entire system by conducting a sensitivity analysis of the indicator evaluation results using the One-At-a-Time (OAT) method. This method fills a critical gap in the safe operation and maintenance of heavy-haul railways and provides a safety guarantee for the operation of long uphill sections of heavy-haul railways. Aluminum thermal welding joints are widely used in the maintenance welding of heavy-haul railways due to their easy handling and high efficiency. However, due to their inherent welding characteristics, welding results in certain differences in the material's physical properties at the welding zone compared to adjacent base materials, leading to the occurrence of short-wave irregularity under long-term wheel–rail interactive forces. In order to explore the evolution characteristics of weld irregularity, dynamic characteristics, and plastic deformation under long-term wheel–rail impact, a detailed tracking test was conducted on a normal aluminum weld, and the process from being put on the track to being damaged and replaced was evaluated. At the same time, a rigid–flexible coupling model was established for subsequent analysis, and plastic damage was analyzed using the finite element model. The results show that the service life of the weld can be divided into three different stages: the initial stage, the intermediate stage, and the damage stage. In the damage stage, a temporary separation occurred between the wheel and rail, leading to a sudden change in the wheel–rail interaction. The weight of 250 MT at the weld reached the repairment control limit. The concentration effect of equivalent plastic deformation was most serious at 2~5 mm below the rail head. This paper aims to assess the mechanical characteristics of the orthotropic steel deck (OSD) in heavy-haul railway bridges. Taking the Dongting Lake Bridge as an example, to simulate the transfer effect of the track structure and get mechanical characteristics of the OSD under the service load, the refined segmental finite element model (FEM) of the OSD in a heavy-haul railway bridge was established. Moreover, the Chinese C80 heavy-haul train (the C80) was selected as the applied load to make the analysis results close to the actual situation. And then, the stress influence lines of critical components in OSD were analyzed. Notches at diaphragms of the OSD are more likely to produce stress concentration. Due to the dense distribution and high stiffness of the longitudinal ribs of OSD, the final load influence range of OSD is limited. Since the T-shaped longitudinal ribs (T-Ribs) are located under the position of each rail, and its stiffness is greater than the adjacent U-shaped longitudinal ribs (U-Ribs), so that the T-Ribs are important load-bearing components of the OSD in heavy-haul railway bridges. Furthermore, the influences of the stiffness ratio of T-Rib to U-Rib on the mechanical characteristics of the OSD were analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A large-scale series of cyclic triaxial tests were conducted to explore the evolution of the dynamic resilient modulus of silty clay for the heavy-haul railway subgrade. A novel loading sequence for measuring the dynamic resilient modulus was established, which characterized the dynamic stress state of the subgrade induced by the heavy-haul train load. In the experimental investigation, the deviatoric stresses, confining stress, initial moisture content, and compaction degree were considered as variables, and the effects of the aforementioned variables were evaluated quantitatively. The experimental results showed that the dynamic resilient modulus was negatively related to deviatoric stresses and initial moisture content, where the average decreased rates were 14.65% and 27.79% with the increase in deviatoric stresses from 60 kPa to 150 kPa and increase in the initial moisture content from 9.8% to 15.8%, respectively. Furthermore, the dynamic resilient modulus was positively related to confining stress and compaction degree, where the average increased rates were 23.25% and 27.48% with the increase in confining stress from 20 kPa to 60 kPa and increase in compaction degree from 0.91 to 0.95. To provide a better application, the two high-accuracy predicted methods were established through the empirical model and artificial neural network approach including the aforementioned variables. Purpose – In order to develop high-strength, high-toughness and high-wear-resistance rails suitable for the development and application of heavy-haul railways. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the trial production of 60 kg·m−1 bainite rails, the Zeiss inverted optical microscope, transmission electron microscope and static hydraulic universal tester were used to test the microstructure and property of rail base metal and welded joints. Meanwhile, a trial laying of rails, wing rails of frogs and switch rails for turnouts was performed to systematically analyze their strength, toughness and wear resistance. Findings – The results show that the base metal of 60 kg·m−1 bainite rail is of a uniform microstructure, with a carbide-free bainite matrix, a few of stable residual austenite and M/A islands, and it features high hardness, good wear resistance and good strength-toughness balance. The welded joint is of a uniform microstructure and has good properties. Originality/value – A bainite rail, laid in a curve section of heavy-haul railway is able to serve for 48 months with a gross traffic tonnage of nearly 600 million tons, whose service life is more than one time longer than that of pearlite rail; the service life of the wing rail of frog and the switch rail for turnout with 60 kg·m−1 bainite rails is 3–4 times longer than that with U75V rails, and no serious damage occurs. The bainite rails also have strong peeling and spalling resistance.

In order to solve the problem of insufficient analytical capabilities, application depth, and data innovation arising from the large amount of business data accumulated in the organization of heavy-haul railway transportation, and promote the application of big data technology in the field of heavy haul railway transportation, this paper proposes a design solution for a big data analytics platform in the field of heavy-haul railway transportation. Based on an analysis of the characteristics of heavy-haul railways, a framework for the platform is presented, which utilizes a hybrid architecture combining Hadoop and MPP (Massively Parallel Processing). The study also designs the application and technical architecture of the big data platform, and discusses the key technologies and business applications of the platform. Compared with domestic high-speed railway technology, the current domestic heavy-haul railway technology lags behind, so it is necessary to introduce high-speed rail technology into heavy-haul railway to improve the technical level of heavy-haul railway. Studying the train control system of heavy-haul railway based on virtual grouping technology and improving the technical level of train control system of heavy-haul railway can lower the professional skill requirements of employees, reduce the number of professionals and improve the transportation efficiency of heavy-haul railway, which will be the breakthrough and development direction of heavy-haul railway in the future. This paper analyzes the present situation of the existing heavy-haul railway train control technology and puts forward the structure, working principle and key technologies of the heavy-haul railway train control system based on virtual grouping technology. In order to realize the train control system of heavy haul railway based on virtual grouping technology, key technologies such as accurate train positioning, train integrity check and train interval control have to be mastered. The train control system of heavy haul railway based on virtual grouping technology is developed and the multi-train tracking test is carried out in the laboratory. The test results show that the train control system of heavy-haul railway based on virtual grouping technology can greatly shorten the tracking interval distance and tracking interval time and improve the transportation efficiency of heavy-haul railway. In light of the improvements to the capacity and timeliness of heavy-haul railway transportation that can be organized through group trains originating at a technical station, we address a group train operation scheduling problem with freight demand importance via a newly proposed mixed integer programming model and a simulated annealing algorithm. The optimization objective of the mixed integer programming model is to minimize the weighted sum of the transportation cost and the total cargo travel time under the condition of matching freight supply and demand within the optimization period. The main constraints are extracted from the supply and demand relations, the cargo delivery time commitment, the maintenance time, and the number of locomotives. A simulated annealing algorithm was constructed to generate the grouping scheme, the stopping scheme and the running schedule of group trains. A numerical experiment based on a real heavy-haul railway configuration was employed to verify the efficacy of the proposed model and heuristics algorithm. The results show that the proposed methodology can achieve high-quality solutions. The case results reveal that the freight volume increased by 2.03%, the departure cost decreased by CNY 337,000, the transportation cost which results from the difference in the supply and demand matching increased by CNY 27,764, and the total cargo travel time decreased by 40.9%, indicating that group train operation can create benefits for both railway enterprises and customers. Retaining walls are structures used to retain earth materials on a slope. Typically, they are designed for static loads, but for highway and railway infrastructures, vehicle-induced dynamic responses are also relevant. Therefore, retaining wall structures are often designed with a factor of safety that is higher than necessary, because it can be challenging to quantify the magnitude of expected dynamic stresses during the design stage. This unnecessary increase in material usage reduces the sustainability of the infrastructures. To improve railway retaining wall sustainability, this paper presents the results from a field monitoring campaign on a heavy-haul rail line with a retaining wall, studying the dynamics induced in response to 30-ton axle load trains running at speeds of between 5 km/h and 100 km/h. The site comprises an earth embankment supported by a gravity retaining wall, with accelerometers on the sleepers, roadbed surface, and retaining wall, velocity sensors on the roadbed, and strain gauges on the rail web to record wheel–rail forces. The vibration intensities collected from various locations are processed to explore the peak particle velocities, maximum transient vibration values, and one-third octave band spectrums. Two transfer functions define the vibration transmission characteristics and attenuation of vibration amplitude along the propagation path. The long-term dynamic stability of the track formation is studied using dynamic shear strain derived from the effective velocity. The peaks of observed contact forces and vibrations are statistically analyzed to assess the impact of train speed on the dynamic behavior of the infrastructure system. Next, a 3D numerical model expresses the maximum stress and displacements on the roadbed surface as a function of train speed. The model evaluates the earth pressures at rest and vehicle-induced additional earth pressures and horizontal wall movement. The investigation provides new insights into the behavior of railway track retaining walls under train loading, and the field data are freely available for other researchers to download. A novel prefabricated strengthening structure (NPSS) is proposed to improve the vertical stiffness and load-bearing capacity of existing short-span bridges for heavier axle-load trains passing through. The strengthening principle of the NPSS is revealed through theoretical derivation. A refined calculation model is prepared to investigate the effects of two important parameters on the structural behavior of the bridge, including the support stiffness and the installation location of the NPSS. The calculation model is also verified with four-point bending test of a bridge removed from a heavy-haul railway. With the calculation model and the response surface methodology (RSM), the functional relationships among the crucial mechanical indexes of the bridge and the two parameters of the NPSS are methodically established. Thus, the optimal values of the parameters are determined via a multi-objective optimization model and the analysis hierarchy process-fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Furthermore, the feasibility of the optimal parameters is appropriately verified based on simulations of the vehicle–track–bridge dynamics. The existence of the NPSS with optimal parameters could enhance the vertical stiffness of the bridge by 21.0% and bearing capacity by 19.5%. In addition, it could reduce the midspan dynamic deflection amplitude by 23.4% and vertical vibration acceleration amplitude of the bridge by 25.2%. The results of the study are expected to contribute to the capacity development and rehabilitation of existing heavy-haul railways with low cost and convenient construction without railway outage. This paper discusses research on the dynamic response characteristics of a heavy-haul railway tunnel and the surrounding soil under the conditions of substrate health and a base void. The detection results of the base condition of 20 double-track tunnels for a heavy-haul railway show the main distribution law of base voids. Based on this, a 1:20 scale test model of a heavy-haul railway tunnel is established. The vibration load of the train is established by a vibration exciter arranged at the tunnel invert. The dynamic response and attenuation law of a heavy-haul railway tunnel lining structure and the surrounding soil are tested using acceleration sensors, strain gauges, and soil pressure boxes. The research results show that most of the diseases are concentrated below the heavy-haul line. The base void causes the peak acceleration of the nearby tunnel invert to increase by 55.6%. Tunnel annular construction joints reduce the conductivity of the vibration waves in the axial direction of the tunnel. The acceleration attenuation rate of the soil above the tunnel invert is significantly less than that under the invert. The base void reduces the acceleration of the nearby soil layer by 19.4% and increases the stress on the surface of the nearby tunnel invert by 21.3%, and the stress change amplitude increases by 0.55%. The tunnel structure in the area of the base void experiences fatigue damage. The base void causes the compaction and bearing capacity of the nearby soil to decrease and the softening speed of the tunnel basement soil layer to increase. To investigate the dynamic stability of natural subgrade filler (NSF) and fiber-binder reinforced subgrade filler (RSF) under cyclic load after freeze–thaw (FT) cycles, a triaxial test was conducted to determine the correlation between cumulative plastic strain (CPS) and the quantity of loading cycles, as well as the evolution law of dynamic strength and critical dynamic stress (CDS) with different FT cycles. The CPS change in the NSF and RSF shows three states (stable, critical, and destructive) with increasing vibration times. However, both fillers have different failure forms, and the curve shapes of the CPS with loading cycle quantities before and after failure are also different. With the number of FT cycles increasing, the requisite dynamic stress threshold for NSF specimen failure decreases continuously. After three FT cycles, the anti-cumulative deformation ability of the NSF decreases by approximately 32%. The anti-cumulative deformation abilities of the NSF after seven and nine FT cycles, respectively, are similar. The amelioration measures could significantly enhance the FT resistance of the NSF. After zero, one, three, five, seven, and nine FT cycles, the requisite dynamic stress threshold for the RSF to reach destruction is increased 1.52, 1.89, 1.98, 2.32, 2.2, and 2.45 times, respectively, compared to that of the NSF. Effectively evaluating high-embankment deformation and stability is important for heavy-haul railway safety. An improved extension model with an attribute reduction algorithm was proposed for the comprehensive evaluation method. First, a hierarchical evaluation system for high embankments in heavy-haul railways was established using the attribute reduction algorithm, which includes the principal component analysis, maximum information coefficient, coefficient of variation, and improved Dempster-Shafer evidence theory. Furthermore, the improved extension model was used to evaluate high-embankment performance in heavy-haul railways. In this improved extension model, the combination weighting method, an asymmetric proximity function, and the maximum membership principle effectiveness verification were used. Finally, three high embankments in a Chinese heavy-haul railway were studied. The results illustrate that the main influencing factors for high-embankment performance in a heavy-haul railway are annual rainfall, annual temperature, and 21 other indicators. The performance of the three embankments is level III (ordinary), level II (fine), and level III (ordinary), respectively, indicating that these embankments have generally unfavourable performance. The three embankments' performance matches field measurements, and the proposed method outperforms the Fuzzy-AHP method, cloud model, and gray relational analysis. In order to analyze the reasonable value range of the stiffness of the ballast track fastener system on heavy-haul railway running 45 t axle-load trains, firstly, the rational range of the static stiffness of the fastener system is analyzed using the allowable rail bending stress method and track deformation method; then the spatial dynamic model of the 45 t heavy-haul truck and ballast track coupled system is established to analyze the reasonable range of the dynamic stiffness of the coupled system under different excitation and different dynamic stiffness with the AAR5 track irregularity spectrum and the low rail weld irregularity as the excitation of the coupled system. Combined with the allowable rail bending stress method and track deformation method, the static stiffness range of the fastener system is suggested to be 200 ~ 240 kN/mm; and the comprehensive comparison of the maximum wheel-rail contact force, the maximum pressure on sleeper, the maximum vertical displacement of the rail and the maximum wheel load reduction rate under different dynamic stiffness of the fastener system shows that the recommended dynamic stiffness range of the fastener system is 240 ~ 300 kN/ mm. The amplitude and envelope characteristics of the vehicle-mounted ground penetrating radar signal response spectrum can be indirectly related to the dirty state of the ballast track bed. There are differences in the detection signals under the three line environments of roadbed, bridge, and tunnel. It is necessary to extract the dirt index of the track bed from the radar signal by seeking common ground while reserving differences. In view of the shortcomings that the existing track bed dirt rate extraction algorithm is only used for roadbed radar data, it is necessary to improve the calculation method of track bed dirt index based on the characteristics of different line radar signals on the whole line. By setting up a reasonable railway subgrade model, this paper numerically simulates the radar signal response of roads, bridges, and tunnels with different levels of pollution under the three line environments, and conducts field radar tests and digging tests on the corresponding lines. The results show that the dirt index of the track bed, which is composed of the maximum amplitude of the power spectrum curve or the envelope area, is positively correlated to the dirt rate of the track bed under the three line environments of roads, bridges, and tunnels; when calculating the power spectrum response of the radar signal on the bridge line, the beam reflection signal in the time window needs to be cut off, and there is no need to cut off the inverted arch reflection signal on the tunnel line, and it can be calculated similarly to the roadbed line. Fouling and mud-pumping problems in ballasted track significantly degrade serviceability and jeopardize train operational safety. The phenomenological approaches for post hoc forensic investigation and remedies of mud pumps have relatively been well studied, but there still lacks studies on inherent mechanisms and ex ante approaches for early-age detection of mud pumps. This paper was aimed to exploring the feasibility of using particle acceleration responses to diagnose and identify early-age mud-pumping risks in real-world field applications. The innovative wireless sensors with 3D-printed shells resembling real shape of ballast particles were instrumented in the problematic railway section to monitor ballast particle movement prior to, during, and after maintenance operations, respectively. The real-time particle-scale acceleration data of ballast bed under both degraded and maintenance-restored clean conditions were recorded. The time histories, power spectra, and marginal spectra of 3D acceleration were comparatively analyzed. The results showed the 3D acceleration of ballast particles underneath rail-supporting tie plates displayed relatively clear periodicity of about 0.8 s with adjacent bogies regarded as a loading unit. The tamping operation was effective for compacting ballast bed laterally and improving the lateral interlocking of ballast particles, whereas the stabilizing operation was effective mainly in the lateral direction and for ballast particles underneath the sleepers. The mud pumps caused intensive particle-scale acceleration, and ballast particles underneath the sleepers were affected more severely than those in between adjacent sleepers. The ballast particles directly underneath tie plates exhibit dramatic acceleration variations due to maintenance operations as compared to those in other positions studied; hence, it seems promising to use particle-scale acceleration underneath tie plates as readily-implementable indicators for smart in-service track health monitoring. Due to the demand for increasing trainload and enhancing some existing heavy-haul railways, the low reserve value of bearing capacity is a problem for the 32 m-span simply supported beam. The fatigue behavior of prestressed concrete beams in a heavy-haul railway loaded by 33 t and larger axle weight of trains was experimentally investigated. The experimental results of the fatigue behaviors, including fatigue deformation, crack propagation behavior, and strains of classical materials were obtained and analyzed. A fatigue behavior assessment model was established to investigate the residual stiffness and yield point degradation of the beams loaded by the trainload. The effects of train fatigue cycles and prestress loss on the residual stiffness and yield point degradation models of the beams were analyzed. The results indicated that the crack development process had three stages during the fatigue process: the derivative stage, gradual development stage, and fatigue failure stage. Trainload was the main external factor influencing the fatigue behavior of prestressed concrete beams. The increase in trainload accelerated the degradation rate of the residual stiffness of the beams and yield point, reducing the fatigue life. The prestressing strand was primarily used to delay the concrete cracking in the tension zone. When the beam was not cracked, the prestressed concrete beam showed good fatigue performance, and the degree of prestressing did not affect the fatigue life of the beams. When the maximum fatigue load exceeded the cracking load of the beam, prestress loss in beams became a critical issue that accelerated the degradation rate of fatigue strength and reduced fatigue life. The higher the fatigue damage degree, the more pronounced the effect of prestress loss on the fatigue strength of the beams. The fatigue failure of prestressed concrete beams occurred in the bottom tensile steel bar. Therefore, when the trainload of a heavy-haul railway is greater than the cracking load of the beam, it is recommended to strengthen the beam by prestressing and strictly control the trainload to avoid yield failure.
