Aim of the study The main objective of this paper is to perform an updated literature review of future endodontics trends based on the available up-to-date scientific literature to identify and describe the new techniques, new materials and their benefits or their limitations. Material and methods Electronic databases (PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Google Scholar and Web of Science) were used to perform a literature search from 2018 to 2023 using MESH terms: Endodontics, Artificial Intelligence, Lasers. After discarding duplicates, out of 1283 results, a total of 18 articles were eligible and point out how endodontic protocol may change with the onset of new technologies and procedures. Results Nanoparticle, laser, regenerative treatment, guided endodontics and artificial intelligence are the main areas that shown promising results in endodontic treatment. New materials with biological capacities will improve the long-term results. Overall, endodontic treatment tends to became more precise and the complications can be reduced. Conclusions Endodontics will see many exciting developments over the coming years, some incremental, others paradigm shifting.

The burgeoning public interest in techniques to enhance a smile has led to demand on clinicians that require important steps in the pre-treatment approval process. Digital dentistry provides a new level of planning and visualisation, improving clinical risk assessment and patient engagement. Dentists must acquire a sound understanding of aesthetic design parameters, including physiologic limitations, and must match patient expectations with clinical reality. Digital design offers flexibility not obtainable with the conventional analogue wax up. Multiple versions of a design can be viewed in a 2D or 3D simulation and accommodated efficiently in CAD software, with 3D printed models generated from each design. The ability to use a test drive or mock-up based on a 3D digital analysis and design, has created a new standard of care for treatment planning, providing an accurate and reversible preview before any definitive dentistry is done. It also places the responsibility for understanding biologic limitations of care on the general dentist, with the risk that digital planning may over-promise if not matched with underlying hard and soft tissue conditions. It improves interdisciplinary and laboratory communication and increases the predictability of the proposed treatment. Objective The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and awareness of guided dentistry among various dental professionals.  Materials and methods The study was carried out as a cross-sectional descriptive observational study among dental professionals (students, practitioners, and teaching faculty in academic institutions) in North India. A web-based electronic survey using Google Forms was designed to obtain the responses of participants toward awareness of guided dentistry and its applications in dentistry. A total of 2200 responses were collected with a response rate of 71.6%. The stratified sampling method was used to allocate participants into different strata. Results Among different professionals, teaching faculty in academics had the highest level of awareness about the concept of guided dentistry. Academic lectures and dental workshops were the major sources of information about this concept. A significantly higher level of awareness regarding the Dynamic Navigation System was there among academicians as compared to other dental professionals (p<0.01). Expensive nature and limited learning opportunities were cited as the major cause for the limited practice of this procedure. Conclusions Within the limitation, the majority of dental professionals in North India had a decent awareness of guided dentistry but a limited clinical approach owing to strata-specific factors. Objective: The ability to control the reduction of tooth structure in a precise and measurable way during the preparation of ceramic veneers is a clinical challenge. The objective of this article is to introduce a new digital technology that can be used to address this challenge showing its advantages and limitations. First Fit is a digitally guided tooth preparation system that can be used to control the accurate and efficient preparation of teeth. In some cases, the system can be used to prepare the teeth for previously made restorations based on planned digital reduction. Clinical considerations: The First Fit system uses 3D‐printed guides and a specially designed handpiece for guided veneer preparation using either a one‐step or a two‐step approach. In the one‐step approach, final restorations are produced prior to preparation of the teeth using reduction guides, and veneers are cemented on the same day as preparation. The two‐step approach includes a preparation phase during which the teeth are prepared using a combination of the reduction guides and free hand techniques. Cementation is then completed at a second appointment. Conclusion: The First Fit system controls and guides veneer preparation with a minimally invasive approach. In some cases, it enables the production of veneers before tooth preparation, alleviating the need for provisional restorations. Clinical significance: The guided restorative dentistry technique described here utilizes digital CAD‐CAM technology to achieve predictable and accurate results in a minimally invasive and efficient manner.
