Organic room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) has attracted tremendous attention in recent years due to its potential utility in combination with artificial soft materials. Herein, a room‐temperature‐phosphorescent hybrid xerogel held together by electrostatic and host–guest interactions is reported. The xerogel is constructed by noncovalent complexation of 7‐[6‐deoxy‐6‐(2‐sulfonic)]‐β‐cyclodextrin (SCD) with the phosphor bromophenyl‐methyl‐pyridinium chloride (PYCl) and in situ incorporation of the anionic SCD⊃PYCl complex into a cationic amino clay (AC) via electrostatic interactions. The resulting xerogel, designated AC/SCD⊃PYCl, has a network structure that can suppress vibrational and nonradiative relaxation of the phosphor, leading to green RTP emission as well as good fluorescence–phosphorescence dual emission. Notably, the intensity of the xerogel RTP varies with humidity and can be switched on and off repeatedly, which indicates that the xerogel has potential utility as an organic light‐emitting humidity‐sensing material.

An energy transfer process from Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions was successfully achieved in a Li2SO4–Al2(SO4)3 mixed‐sulphate system. A wet‐chemical synthesis was employed to prepare the Li2SO4–Al2(SO4)3 system by doping Ce3+ and Tb3+ ions individually as well as collectively. The phases were identified using X‐ray diffraction studies. The as‐prepared samples were characterized by FT‐IR and photoluminescence measurements. Green‐light emission was exhibited by Ce3+, Tb3+ co‐doped Li2SO4–Al2(SO4)3 system, thus, indicating its potential as a material for display devices or in the lamp industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Erbium and cerium co-doped tantalum-oxide (Ta2O5:Er, Ce) thin films were fabricated using radio-frequency co-sputtering of Ta2O5, Er2O3, and CeO2 for the first time. Enhanced green-light emission due to Er3+ that seems to be sensitized by Ce3+ was observed from the film annealed at 900 °C for 20 min. From XRD measurements of the films, the β-Ta2O5 (orthorhombic), δ-Ta2O5 (hexagonal), and (201) Ta2O5 phases seem to be very important for obtaining green PL from them. Such Ta2O5:Er, Ce co-sputtered films can be used as high-refractive-index materials of autocloned photonic crystals that can be applied to novel green-light-emitting devices, and they will also be used as multi-functional coating films that can work both as anti-reflection and down-conversion films for realizing high-efficiency silicon solar cells.

We have generated 107-mW green-light emission by frequency doubling of a reliable 1060-nm distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode using a periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate waveguide in the most compact single-pass configuration. The green power variation is lower than 1% at frequencies below 82 kHz. The relative intensity noise of -150 dB/Hz has been measured at 100 MHz. We report on the static and dynamic performance of high-power and high-modulation-speed 1060-nm distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers for green-light emission by second-harmonic generation. Single-wavelength power of 387 mW at 1060-nm wavelength and green power as high as 99.5 mW were achieved. A thermally induced wavelength tuning of 2.4 nm and a carrier-induced wavelength tuning of -0.85 nm were obtained by injecting current into the DBR section. Measured rise-fall times of 0.2 ns for direct intensity modulation and 0.6 ns for wavelength modulation make the lasers suitable for >50-MHz green-light modulation applications [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
