The purpose of the article is to analyze the state of innovative development of the economy of Ukraine and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and to identify the problems of its provision in the conditions of martial law. The results of the study prove that factors of a military nature have an ambiguous effect on stimulating the innovative development of the country's economy. It has been established that economic evolution through innovation is a prerequisite for strengthening its competitiveness in countering modern challenges and threats. The results of the empirical study made it possible to find out that during the large-scale aggression of Russia on the territory of Ukraine in 2022, a decrease in the level of innovative economic development was also observed in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. It was established that in 2023, the countries of the analyzed group managed to increase the indicators of innovative activity of business entities and the parameters of the innovative development of the economy. Important problems in ensuring economic progress through innovative activity have been identified: (1) shortcomings of the legislation regulating the innovation sphere; (2) lack of formation of a unified innovation infrastructure; (3) significant tax burden; (4) lack of an effective system of taxation and provision of tax benefits and preferences; (5) lack of effective investment mechanisms in the field of innovation; (6) low level of technological capacity of production facilities; (7) imperfection of the education system; (8) low level of financing of research activities; (9) focus on the export of raw materials and dependence on high-tech imports. In order to ensure sustainable innovative development of the country's economy, it is necessary to create appropriate conditions for the development of innovative potential, activate the creation of cross-border innovation clusters, and strengthen the country's investment attractiveness. The concept of project success has evolved from the perspective of conforming to the project triangle to that of benefiting the environment, and then from the perspective of the following generation. Scientists increasingly assert that successful projects require a set of criteria that include such item(s) as future potential. The meaning of project success varies depending on where it is executed. The purpose of this study is to identify whether projects with future potential have a certain effect on indicators of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) and what other success criteria are inherent in such projects. By using the method of descriptive analysis of data collected from 107 experts and analyzing 19 influential projects, the study revealed that projects oriented towards the future have a significant impact on the indicators of the GCI in the RK. This finding confirms the necessity of considering the long-term sustainability and social significance of projects when assessing their successes. Additionally, a specific combination of success criteria that contributes most to this impact was identified. This research provides a brand-new understanding of project success criteria in the context of their impact on the GCI and emphasizes the importance of considering future potential in project planning and evaluation. The article researches the competitiveness of the national economy in conditions of structural changes, the article’s further aim is to define the strengths and weaknesses of the national economy. Based on the carried out analysis of the Global competitiveness index, it is determined that in 2021, in terms of global competitiveness, Ukraine returned to the level of 2013 and took the 54th position among 64 countries. During the period of 2015–2018, the relative stability of Ukraine’s position at the 59th place is observed, in 2019 and 2021 the country demonstrates an increase in rating positions. The analysis of the rating’s components of the ranking indicates that Ukraine’s low position in the global competitiveness ranking in 2021 is due to insufficient economic development. After all, Ukraine occupies the 54th position according to the element «economic indicators». At this, the highest-rated indicator corresponds to the element «business efficiency» (the 50th position in the ranking). It should be noted that it was possible to improve the position regarding the element «infrastructure», according to which Ukraine took the 51st place, while in 2020 it was the 54th position. It is determined that the modern global environment is characterized by a significant level of digitization of all spheres of life activities. The analysis of the country’s competitiveness from the point of view of the use of information and communication technologies is carried out on the basis of the Index of digital competitiveness of countries, which consists of three sub-indices: knowledge; technologies; readiness for the future. It is revealed that for the period 2012–2021, Ukraine had the highest ranking position on the «knowledge» indicator compared to other components and in 2021 took the 37th position, thus improving its ranking compared to the previous period. At the same time, according to the components «technology» and «readiness for the future», the positions in the ranking are approximately the same. The weaknesses and strengths of Ukraine’s competitiveness are highlighted. Among the weaknesses that do not allow Ukraine to take a leading place in the international ranking of digital competitiveness are significant investment risks, an insufficient level of intellectual property protection and the present level of cyber security. Strengths include: providing opportunities to start and develop one’s own business, relatively high Internet speed, e-democracy and high quality of education.

Global Competitiveness Index, high technology exports and coverage ratio variables were used in the study. The effects of high technology exports on the Global Competitiveness Index and coverage ratio, and the effects of the Global Competitiveness Index on the coverage ratio were analysed. Positive effects of the analyses were observed. It is also assumed that the coverage ratio is one of the most important criteria of foreign trade performance. In the study, it is seen that the Global Competitiveness Index plays an intermediary role in the effect of technology exports on the coverage ratio. Therefore, the increase in the share of technology exports in total trade affects the coverage ratio through the partial effect of the Global Competitiveness level. Therefore, it is assumed that the technological infrastructure and competitiveness of countries will play a key role in improving foreign trade performance.

Under the conditions of economic integration and globalization, the importance of national innovation competitiveness is rapidly increasing. In order to study what combination of conditions can generate higher national innovation competitiveness, this study proposes an improved integrated framework for national innovation competitiveness and it examines the allocation conditions that affect the innovation competitiveness of countries with different income levels using data from the Global Competitiveness Report 2019. This research finds that, first, the means of achieving high innovation competitiveness output are more diversified for high-income and upper-middle-income countries, with countries at these two economic levels achieving high innovation competitiveness output in three scenarios. Second, lower-middle-income countries have a more homogeneous configuration for achieving high innovation competitiveness outputs, with only one scenario, which still holds after a series of robustness tests. Third, for high-income countries, commercialization is a key element affecting their innovation competitiveness enhancement. The study not only bridges the gap between existing theories and research methods but also provides a useful reference for countries at different levels of economic development to improve their innovation competitiveness. Logistics, beyond being a strategically important function for global supply chains, is a sector of considerable size in terms of the global economy. Thus, economy-wide logistics capabilities have a strategic impact at the national level, supporting countries to achieve a global competitive advantage. For this reason, the logistics performances of the countries not only show the success of using their existing logistics capabilities but also provide significant indications about their competitiveness at the global level. Due to this strategic impact, this study aims to deal with the logistics performances of OECD countries from the perspective of competitiveness and to determine the competitiveness-based logistics performance index (CB-LPI). For this purpose, data envelopment analysis has been applied with two different techniques. The input variables are the Global Competitiveness Index, and the output variables are the Logistic Performance Index. In this empirical study, 7 inputs (infrastructure, skills, product market, financial system, information and communication technology adoption, business dynamism, innovation capability) and 6 output variables (Customs, Infrastructure, International shipments, Logistics quality and competence, Tracking and tracing, Timeliness) have been used. This study is handled in a total of 5 periods. These periods are 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. As a result, it was determined that the competitive logistics performances of 8 countries (Australia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey) were at the level of full efficiency in each period in the application of both techniques. Information and communication technologies (ICT) are an indispensable part of the modern economic world, and their application can improve the economic development of countries. However, ICT application requires high investment and a highly skilled workforce, which makes it difficult for developing countries to keep up with developed countries. The countries' technological equipment is a crucial factor of national competitiveness, and within the calculation of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), particular emphasis is placed on the evaluation of the application of ICT. The paper deals with the Technological Readiness and the ICT adoption analysis of Serbia from 2010 to 2019 and their individual categories. The results showed that Serbia has achieved worse results over the years, being significantly behind the EU in terms of the application of ICT. The worsening results in recent years show that ICT is developing much faster in the world than in Serbia.

In the twenty-first century, the information revolution has led to the global digitalization of modern society, encompassing all countries of the world and leading to change in all spheres of human life, including economic, social and political. E-government makes the administrative process convenient, transparent, and fully accountable to the community, improving sociopolitical and democratic processes in the countries, and creating an effective information and technology platform for developing the business environment. In line with the administrative reform e-government is a strategic choice for the country, which aims to increase the competitiveness of the State and improve the well-being of its people. The article examines the influence of the level of digitalization on the level of socioeconomic and political development of countries. To test hypotheses, hierarchical agglomerative and iterative methods of cluster analysis, econometric models were used. The E-Government Development Index, Doing Business, The Global Competitiveness Index, The Social Progress Index for 114 countries for 2014–2019 were considered as the research information base. The results showed a significant positive effect of increasing the level of digitalization on the socioeconomic development and quality of political institutions of countries, which manifests itself with a different time lag. In addition, the results of an econometric analysis show that there is no difference in the intensity of the influence of the factor of digitalization in countries with different income levels. The results can be useful in the formation and adaptation of a strategy of socioeconomic development and competitiveness, in the assessment and systematic analysis of a digitalization strategy

Digital technologies are currently one of the main engines of growth and technological development of the global economy. The introduction of digital technologies contributes to the competitiveness of various sectors of the world economy, the creation of new business opportunities in terms of connecting to digital global value chains, the emergence of new markets and niches, and the accelerated introduction of new digital goods into the global market. The digitalization process does not happen simultaneously in different countries of the world, so there is a certain gap in the degree of digitalization of national economies, which gives rise to digital inequality and, as a consequence, increasing the dependence of countries on developed countries. Politics, legal norms, traditions and culture, the level of economic development achieved, the level of education, and the country's own technological base, as well as many other factors, play an important role in the digital transformation of a country's economy. As a result of the digital transformation of the global economic architecture, new contours of the digital economy are emerging, characterized by the exponential growth of data flows. The formation of the digital market space contributes to increasing competitiveness primarily in the industrial sector through the creation of new products and their service system, which leads to the emergence of new market segments. In other words, the digital market, in fact, is a modern mechanism providing a rapid transition from national markets limited by state borders to a single global market. This situation requires a study of the economic aspects of digitalization in the context of sustainable development of our state, which determines the relevance of the chosen research topic. The purpose of the article is to assess the impact of digitalization on the economy through the example of Ukraine and its directions in peacetime and under martial law. Assessment of digitalization and its impact on the economy was carried out on the basis of open data, in particular GDP per capita, indexes of global and digital competitiveness, digital induction, and sustainability index were used. During the study, the following scientific methods were used: analysis and synthesis, the method of establishing cause-effect relationships, and graphical methods. As a result of the study, the main trends in the digitalization of the national economy and its risks were identified, focusing on the shift in emphasis from service to military goals of digital transformation. A conclusion was made about a significant breakthrough in the digital economy in Ukraine and further development regardless of russia's military invasion of Ukraine. The state of Ukraine was analyzed with the help of digitalization indices and the confirmation of the need for further monitoring of the digitalization of the Ukrainian economy and the study of its impact on the rate of economic growth was identified on their basis. The Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) developed by the World Economic Forum (WEF) is used as a standard for measuring a country’s competitiveness. However, in literature, the GCI has been accused of numerous methodological flaws. Consequently, in 2018, the WEF introduced significant methodological changes. This study aims to examine whether the methodological modifications in the GCI’s structure increase its ability to capture the real competitiveness of economies. In addition, the study considers whether the selection of weights of individual elements included in the GCI is optimal or could be improved. By employing a sensitivity-based analysis, we find that the change in methodology resulted in fewer pillars of marginal importance. In the case of the GCI 2017, there were four pillars, whereas in that of the GCI 4.0, there were only two pillars: product market and labor market. Furthermore, we reveal that the WEF weights do not reflect the measured importance of the variables. In the optimization process, numerous variables (primarily opinion-based indicators) were insignificant in explaining the GCI variance and could be eliminated from the set of diagnostic variables without affecting the index’s value. For instance, in the case of the GCI 4.0, 35 out of 103 variables could be eliminated. The new rankings obtained by weight optimization and reduction of the diagnostic variables demonstrated a strong positive correlation with the original rankings. This research contributes to the literature from both a theoretical perspective (indicating the most vital indicators in the GCI) and a practical standpoint (reducing the costs and time of obtaining redundant data).

The research under discussion remains whether higher competitiveness of a country brings higher economic performance and sustainable growth, e.g., in the V4 region. The objective of the paper is to provide the results of extensive research based on verified Eurostat data to explore this research challenge in the V4 countries during the period of 2007-2019. Simultaneously, the objective is to link the country’s economic performance (GDP) to urgent challenges of the contemporary world in the form of sustainability and life quality. In the paper, linear regression, multiple linear regression, and ANOVA were used. A significant impact of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) on the level of GDP, and the subsequent positive effect of GDP level on sustainability and life quality indicators has been demonstrated. Our research findings propose an unconventional sustainable competitiveness mechanism. The conclusion outlines the direction from improved competitiveness through higher economic performance reinforcing R&D expenditure and high-tech employment to better sustainability and well-being. Moreover, the research results bring initial empirical evidence of the functionality of the proposed mechanism in the V4 countries. Based on this, we can offer policymakers the key research findings pointing at the sustained economic growth accompanied by higher ecology, including life quality. At the same time, the drivers of this development are presented in more detail in our paper.

The investigation of factors that increase or hinder competitiveness has been one of the core tenets of theoretical and empirical researchers, but so far there has been no consensus. This study responds to this issue by exploring how different facets of the macroeconomic environment influence competitiveness in the three Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) types of economy (factor-driven economy, efficiency-driven economy, innovation-driven economy). Using Porter’s classification, we divided countries based on factor, efficiency and innovation. Additionally, the generalized method of moments (GMM) was used to capture endogeneity and unobserved heterogeneity of data in an unbalanced panel data for 81 countries (2002-2018). The results show that the variations of competitiveness across countries are mainly determined by variations in the stage of economic development. Firstly, GDP growth, low start-up costs and higher R&D expenditure play a key role in explaining the variation in competitiveness in three country clusters. Secondly, as regards Stage 1 countries, we find that trade openness, tax rate, GDP growth, start-up costs, real effective exchange rate, R&D expenditures and labor productivity are particularly vital for competitiveness. Concerning Stage 2 countries, we may observe that trade openness, tax rate, GDP growth, inflation, start-up costs, financial development, real effective exchange rate, R&D expenditures and labor productivity had a statistically significant impact on competitiveness. When it comes to Stage 3 countries, factors such as trade openness, FDI, tax rate, GDP growth rate, inflation, tax rate, startup costs, financial development, R&D expenditures, and labor productivity have an impact on competitiveness. This article presents some essential features, such as the macroeconomic index to determine competitiveness. These features can be used as guidelines for decision makers because they identify areas where taking further actions can improve competitiveness. Finally, our obtained results are highly consistent across a series of robustness tests and robustness checks covering alternative samples and alternative variable groups.

With the convergence of the national economies of some countries and the intensification of globalization processes, international competition between states is growing significantly. Therefore, for Ukraine, in today's conditions, it is important to find factors to increase national competitiveness. In most cases, competitiveness is understood as the ability of the national economy to occupy a leading position in the world market, which ensures the growth of living standards on the basis of an innovative economy. The international general indicators of competitiveness of national economies are the Global Competitiveness Index from the World Economic Forum and the Global Competitiveness Rating according to the Institute of Management Development. Both of these studies over the past decade demonstrate Ukraine's low position in international competitiveness rankings among other countries. Weak positions of the level of competitiveness according to different methods highlight the same problems in the socio-economic development of Ukraine: inefficient functioning of state institutions (significant level of corruption, lack of rule of law, and insecurity of property rights); low efficiency of the financial markets (unreliability of banks and underdevelopment of stock exchanges); macroeconomic instability (low credit rating of the country and high inflation); exacerbation of health problems (low per capita income and underdeveloped health infrastructure shorten healthy life expectancy and overall quality of life). Thus, the World Economic Forum classified Ukraine as a country in transition from a factor-oriented economy to an efficiency-oriented economy. For countries at this stage of development, the World Economic Forum, to strengthen national competitiveness, proposes to ensure the effective functioning of public and private institutions and stabilize the macroeconomic environment, and further improve the efficiency of production processes and training. Therefore, the directions of state policy in the field of increasing Ukraine's competitiveness should be: reducing the level of corruption, strengthening the efficiency of the financial market, ensuring macroeconomic stabilization, strengthening the country's labor potential. The article discusses the essence and significance of behavioral economics. The need to take into account the instrumentarium of behavioral economy in the process of solving socio-economic problems is substantiated. The macroeconomic indicators of development of Ukrainian economy are analyzed. Ukraine’s place in the world ranking in terms of GDP per capita is considered. The integrated assessment of the overall economic activity of the country using the Global Competitiveness Index (IGC), the Human Development Index (HDI), and the index of Quality of Life Index by Country are carried out. International comparison of economic growth indicators is highlighted. The dynamics of total income, expenses, savings of the population are analyzed and the significant influence of behavioral factors on decision-making in this sphere is identified, their relationship at both micro and macro levels is disclosed. A significant influence of behavioral factors on decision-making on consumption, expenses and savings is identified, their importance in crisis situations is emphasized. It is proved that the behavioral aspect of economic growth involves not just the inclusion of psychological factors in the classical analytical models, but a combination of microeconomic components with macroeconomic ones. The need to expand the analysis of economic development based on taking into account the behavioral aspect as the driving force of economic development is substantiated. It is noted that the instruments of behavioral economics should be used in the process of developing and conducting socio-economic policy. It is defined that the behavioral economy is one of the instruments that strengthens the possibilities of effective decision-making by the actors together with their impact on socio-economic processes.

A favorable business environment is part of a set of complex strategic efforts, which come to boost and develop the comparative advantage of the Republic of Moldova. Good governance, the absence of corruption and efficient institutions stimulate entrepreneurship and promote the growth and development of the business environment. Of course, an important role in ensuring these conditions belongs to the state. The potential that the Sustainable Development Goals open to companies, including new businesses, is estimated at 12 trillion lei in just four business areas. All this represents a good platform for identifying the business niches of the future, which youth could explore and identify their own sustainable business area.

• We analyzed the relationship between suicide rate and GCI in nine former Soviet countries and nine European and Asian countries. • Suicide rate was related to GCI in six of the nine former Soviet Union countries and in three of the nine European and Asian countries. • Attention should be paid to poor or worsening GCI values for suicide prevention in countries of the former Soviet Union. Investigations of suicide in countries of the former Soviet Union, which broke into 15 different countries in the early 1990s, require examinations of a combination of economic, social, and health factors. It is important to address these factors individually and to examine the various composite indicators for each. Moreover, it would be worthwhile to explore the potential applicability of a comprehensive worldwide index. We analyzed data from nine of the former Soviet countries for which both the annual suicide rate and the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) were available for the years 2006–2017. We determined the precise relationships between the suicide rate and the GCI during this period in these nine countries as well as in nine countries with high suicide rates in Europe and Asia. The results indicated the following: (i) In six of the nine former Soviet countries with complete data, the suicide rate showed a relationship with the GCI. Notably, this relationship was inverse in all but one country. (ii) Among the nine European and Asian countries with high suicide rates, three exhibited a correlation between the suicide rate and the GCI. Measures to prevent suicide should be devised especially in countries of the former Soviet Union through collaboration among multiple fields and organizations, as necessary, with particular attention paid to countries with worse or worsening GCI values. Digitalization transforms the traditional concepts of economic growth and competitiveness. This article studies the effect of digitalization on Russia’s economic growth. As indicators measuring the impact of digitalization processes on economic growth, the study used the Gross Domestic Product per capita, the Global Competitiveness Index, the Index of Digital Life, the Digital Adoption Index, and the Resilience Index. Their in-depth examination based on a three-pronged model showed that the state of the macroenvironment and the readiness of the population for digital transformation do not allow digital technologies to affect the economic growth rate seriously. The article analyzes the level of technological competitiveness of Ukraine in the world economy, allocating the directions of technological renewal of the national economy. Technological competitiveness is defined as a real and potential opportunity for the national technological system to produce final products that are in demand in the relevant markets; as a totality of certain characteristics that form the competitive advantages of the country in the world economy, allowing to withstand competition with other national technological systems. On the basis of the disclosure of the peculiarities of the methodology for computing the index of global competitiveness, Ukraine’s place in the world ranking is summarized, the dynamics of the factor of technological readiness of our country, as well as its other indicators of competitiveness are displayed in three sub-indexes: basic requirements, increasing efficiency, and innovativeness. It is emphasized the need for technological modernization of Ukraine on the basis of innovative principles. It is underlined that the directions of technological modernization should take into account the patterns of the modern stage of technoglobalism, which is the process of forming a single global system of production and exchange of results of innovation-technological activity. In the context of limited financial capabilities of our country and the presence of significant barriers to the movement of new technologies, it is proposed to carry out technological renewal of the national economy through the development and introduction of new technologies in cooperation with other countries.

The Competitiveness Index is measured and published annually by the World Economic Forum for a significant number of countries. In this regard, the main purpose of this study is to "measure and assess the position of Indian subcontinent countries in terms of competitiveness indicators compared to Iran", in the period 2016 to 2018. The type of applied research and its method is descriptive-analytical. Sharon's entropy techniques, Vikor, Moran's global spatial self-correlation statistics, and the Arc Gis software were used to analyze the data. The results of this study in terms of the study of global competitiveness indicators during the period under study showed that India is in the first place and Bhutan is in the last place. Iran, with a score of 0.305, 0.336 and 0.327, has the second place, respectively. Also, the results of the change coefficient model (c.v) showed that the level of inequality of countries in having the studied indicators has been declining over the past three years. In the age of digitalization, the relevance of studying the quality of education is increasing. The main task facing the education of the Republic of Moldova is to increase the competitiveness on the world market of educational services, because the degree of digitization increases comparatively faster than the level of knowledge, and increases the gap between knowledge and skills. The research object of this study is to evaluate the quality and competitiveness of education in global indices. Various research methods were used: statistical method, comparative analysis, methods to visualize statistical data, etc. The quality and competitiveness of education were analysed both for the Republic of Moldova and for the neighbouring partner countries. In this study, the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the Education Index (component of the Human Development Index), the pillar "Education" of the Legatum Prosperity Index and the pillar "Skills" of the Global Competitiveness Index were performed. The world economy is increasingly more globalized and Global Value Chains (GVCs) played a greater role in international trade and production which provides opportunities for economic growth and development. This paper examines the linkages between economic freedom and Global Value Chains. The developing nations in Asia need to have the ability to integrate themselves in GVCs in order to gain access to higher-value activities in GVCs. The objective of this study is to see the impact of the Economic Freedom Index, Female Labor Force Participation Rate and the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) in Asian countries considered as developing economies by the IMF on the countries’ position in GVCs measured using value-added indicators. The presence of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) variable can indicate the role of government, consistency of policies, infrastructure and institutional formation, which is correlated in the level of Economic Freedom of developing nations. This paper uses the Data Panel regression model consisting of multiple indicators of all the variables used from 25 developing countries in Asia from 2009 to 2017. Analysis indicates that the variables have an overall positive relationship with the level of integration of the countries into GVCs.

The creation and growth of new enterprises and, on the other hand, their decline and market exit are crucial factors of business dynamism and economic growth. Thus, business dynamism is an important aspect in the market chain and productivity of an economy, as well as a trigger for market reforms. The aim is to analyze business dynamism using Global Competitiveness Index 4.0 and its variables worldwide and to verify the relationship between business dynamism in the EU states and economic characteristics such as Valued added at factor cost, Enterprise Birth Rate and Enterprise Death Rate. Data were collected from the 2019 Global Competitiveness Report and from the EUROSTAT database, using the most recently updated source for each indicator. The 11th pillar of the Global Competitiveness Index, focused on business dynamics, and a set of indicators were analyzed using PCA to verify if all the variables are effective representatives of the concept. It was found out that the pillar does not effectively represent the concept of business dynamism in case of the EU countries; therefore the new pillar was constructed. A strong and statistically significant correlation between business dynamism and Value Added was confirmed. A relationship between business dynamism and other economic indicators was not proven. From a territorial point of view, Oceania achieved the best overall result in the analyzed field. The process of starting a new business is the most challenging in terms of start-up costs in South America. By contrast, the EU has reached the best result in this process.

Public health plays an important role in the spectrum of economic indicators. Simultaneously, the competitiveness of countries is a key economic indicator, and this interconnection requires special attention, especially in the decision-making process of public policies. The main objective of the presented study was to evaluate the effects of selected health indicators on the competitiveness of developed countries. The following health variables were collected for the analysed period from 2010 to 2018: four variables of Life Expectancy (LE) and three variables of Perceived Health Status (PHS). Each variable was observed from the perspective of gender differentiation and gender inequalities. The Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) was also used in the analyses as an economic variable. The research sample included all countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The analytical data processing consisted of descriptive analysis, difference analysis (Wilcoxon Test), regression analysis (Panel regression model) and correlation analysis (Spearman's ρ). Regarding the results, all health variables showed differences between men and women. The results of the regression analysis revealed a very strong and significant effect of LE and PHS on the competitiveness of individual economies. The correlation analysis confirmed all relations. Improving the health of men and women is likely to increase the competitiveness of developed countries. As a result, it provides space for further research and policy-making in each country.

The impact of world economic competitiveness on the welfare of people and on economic development is undeniable. The present study examines the effect of good governance indicators on the global competitiveness index of the economy in selected countries of the MENA region. In order to achieve the research objectives, the statistical information related to the research variables during the period 2010-2017 was collected from the reports and database of the World Economic Forum and the World Bank. Then, the research model was estimated using the panel data econometric method and the fixed effects model. Research findings show that the impact of corruption control, rule of law, regulatory quality, and the government effectiveness indicators on the global competitiveness index is statistically significant at 5% level and have positive effect. The impact of protest and accountability and political stability indicators on the global economic competitiveness index is statistically significant at 10% level; these indicators have positive impact on the global competitiveness index of the economy. In addition, the impact of control variables such as innovation factors, efficiency factors, and essential requirements on the global competitiveness index of the economy is positive and statistically significant. Thus, in order to strengthen the global economic competitiveness of countries, the paper suggests following up and practicing the good governance indicators provided by the World Economic Forum, besides as well as other influential factors.

The competitiveness of the national economy is one of the most important economic concepts. There are many of its definitions and methods of measurement. Since the country’s competitiveness is formed by a huge number of factors, a literature review was carried out, as a result of which macroeconomic factors affecting the competitiveness of the economy were selected. The purpose of the article is to assess the degree of influence of selected factors on the global competitiveness of countries. For this, panel data of 60 countries for the period from 2006 to 2018 were collected. Based on this data, a regression analysis of panel data with fixed and random effects was carried out, where the dependent variable is the Global Competitiveness Index, and 22 macroeconomic factors act as independent variables. The Hausman test confirmed the preference for using a panel data model with fixed effects over a panel data model with random effects. As a result, 2 models were constructed that showed the degree of influence of the following factors to change the global competitiveness index: gross capital formation, total factor productivity, average labor productivity, pace of inflation rate, share of the cur-rent account balance in GDP, share of the employed population in the total population of the country, oil prices, growth rate of oil prices.

The article is concerned with analyzing the international ratings and indices, developed by leading international institutions and organizations in order to study different aspects of the country’s development. The major rating systems are described, allowing to assess the degree of attractiveness of the business environment of the host country for implementing entrepreneurial activities, with allocation of their components and evaluation parameters. Both the leading countries and Ukraine’s positions in the ratings of indexes of economic freedom, global competitiveness, ease of doing business and involvement of countries in international trade are defined. It is displayed that international rating systems create wide opportunities for analysis of the business environment of the geographically diversified international companies. It is substantiated that the variety of approaches to assessment and the indicators used leads to the difficulty of comparison of the results of use of rating systems and determines the feasibility of further research in the direction of improving the instrumentarium of assessing the favorability of the business environment of the host country. In order to reduce subjectivity and ensure complexity of the result, an approach to calculating the aggregate indicator is proposed, allowing to assess the favorableness of the national environment for international business in accordance with its core components.

Background and Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to find the key drivers of Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) in the European Union (EU-28) countries from the aspect of country’s global competitiveness: institutions, macroeconomic environment, infrastructure, higher education, market effectiveness, market size, technological readiness, innovation and business sophistication.

The development of a country is impossible outside world trends, where globalization of the world economic space takes the main role, it exerts its influence on all social processes, strengthens interchange between national economies via international trade and investment flows, innovation, funds, migration and other integration processes; globalization influences and determines the competitiveness level for each country. The article analyzes and defines the competitiveness of the country and the factors which determine it, in order to study the rating points of Ukraine; it compares the competitiveness level of Ukraine and neighboring EU countries; identifies the drawbacks and positive opportunities of the economy, thus to propose measures for increasing the competitiveness of Ukraine in the global economy as a whole. The study has found that state competitiveness strongly depends on its self-efficiency, strives for economic growth in the context of globalization, ensuring the well-being of its citizens through the use of competitive factors. It has been determined that the main factors that can ensure the competitiveness of a country are available resources, geographical location, technological progress, productivity, macroeconomic stability, infrastructure development, use of information and communication technologies and more. The position of Ukraine in the International World Economic Forum ratings has been analyzed through Global Competitiveness Index, accounting the data of neighboring countries - members of the EU. It has been revealed that Ukraine hasn’t improved its position in the analyzed rating, which may signify about the absence of effective state policy and reforms that would enhance the country competitiveness. A number of proposals have been formed, the practical implementation of which will ensure the formation and development of an effective competitive economy with further integration into the world economic space

The modern paradigm of economic development shows that an important factor affecting the economic development is not only natural resources, but also innovative approaches that stimulate the competitiveness of the country. Forming the innovative economics in the direction of education, trade, investment and financial decentralization requires the selection of effective tools of innovative economics formation, which creates fertile foundation for the introduction of innovations in these areas. And this is achieved by optimal coordination of different combinations of state regulation instruments. Relevance of the topic: Determining the importance of the role of state in forming the innovative economics and developing the concept of national innovation system is connected with the scientists-economists of the neoclassical school of the 90s of the last century. However, apart from theoretical assessments, no complex research has been conducted in this direction. Scientific novelty of the research: The article outlines the main directions of forming the innovative economics based on the identification and analysis of the factors affecting the innovative economics. Research background: Under the current conditions of increasing competitiveness and interdependence, national economies are more influenced by the global business environment and its development. Constantly changing economic, social, political aspects, and many other factors, cause the differences in the global competitiveness of economies, so the economies are forced to analyze their competitive level more complexly. Despite that, there is a lack of research studies analyzing the international competitiveness of EU-28 economies from the point of view various multi-criteria indices. Purpose of the article: The paper investigates the relations between the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and other selected multi-criteria indices, namely the Global Innovation Index (GII), the Doing Business Index (DBI), the Economic Freedom Index (EFI) and the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) in the case of EU–28 economies. Methods: In order to investigate the relations between the global competitiveness and selected multi-criteria indices affecting the EU–28 economies, the multiple linear regression analyses were applied. The multiple regression model was quantified for every single year, as well as, the regression model using the average score of all analyzed indices. The secondary data concerning the scores of individual indices were collected based on annually published online reports over the period of 2014–2018. Findings & Value added: The research confirmed that there is a statistically significant dependence between the global competitiveness, corruption and the level of innovation potential within the EU–28 economies. Besides, we identified the worst results in the context of competitiveness evaluation especially in the area of corruption and innovation activities. In this regard, the issue of insufficient innovation development and inappropriate corruption perception is considered to be key determinants influencing the assessment of the global competitiveness of the EU–28 member states. In our opinion, to improve the competitiveness of these countries, targeted activities should be implemented in the frame of national competitive strategies, programs, and policies.

Objective: The aim of this paper is to analyse the role of innovation in competitiveness development and to identify the most competitive European economies. From the perspective of contemporary challenges, the following research question will be considered: How innovations determine development of the most competitive European economies? Research Design & Methods: Besides employing critical literature analysis, the research methods based on quantitative synthesis will also be used. Interpretations are developed through an in-depth comprehensive review of different studies and secondary data analysis. Findings: The results provide valuable insights into how innovations determine development of the most competitive European economies. Measuring competitiveness relies on taking into account both supply-side and demand-side indicators. Based on the GCI both the demand-side as well as the supply-side innovation indicators were identified. Contribution & Value Added: The novelty of the study consists, on the one hand, in developing the conceptual framework for innovative competitiveness that contributes to the shaping of socioeconomic transitions and, on the other hand, in determining the innovation-driven factors of the most competitive European countries.
