Abstract

The twin Higgs mechanism was proposed recently to solve the little hierarchy problem. We study the implementation of the twin Higgs mechanism in left-right models. At the TeV scale, heavy quark and gauge bosons appear, with rich collider phenomenology. In addition, there are extra Higgs bosons, some of which couple to both the standard model fermion sector and the gauge sector, while others couple to the gauge bosons only. We present the particle spectrum and study the general features of the collider phenomenology of this class of model at the Large Hadron Collider.

Abstract

The present-day $B$-anomalies involving $b \to s \mu^+ \mu^-$ or $b \to c \tau^- {\bar\nu}$ transitions can all be explained with the addition of a vector $U_1$ leptoquark with a mass of $M_{U_1} \ge 1.8$ TeV. In the scalar singlet dark matter model (SSDMM), the DM is a scalar $S$ that couples to the Higgs via $\lambda_{hS} \, S^2|H|^2$. We update the fit to the data and find that the SSDMM is now viable only for $M_S \ge 1.6$ TeV. In this paper, we assume that the DM also couples to the $U_1$ via $\lambda_{U_1 S} \, S^2 \, U_{1\mu}^{\dagger} U^{\mu}_1$. In addition to leading to DM annihilation via $S S \to U_1 {\bar U}_1$, this coupling generates $SSgg$ and $SS\gamma\gamma$ couplings at one loop. Although naively divergent, these loop diagrams can be calculated under the assumption that the $U_1$ is a gauge boson of a group broken at the TeV scale. With this DM-$U_1$ coupling term, there are additional contributions to the various DM observables (relic density, direct and indirect detection). We find that the constraints on the SSDMM are relaxed for both heavy DM ($M_S \ge M_{U_1}$) and light DM ($M_S < M_{U_1}$)., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

High-energy muon collider can play as an emitter of electroweak gauge bosons and thus leads to substantial vector boson scattering (VBS) processes. In this work, we investigate the production of heavy neutral lepton (HNL) $N$ and lepton number violation (LNV) signature through VBS at high-energy muon colliders. VBS induces LNV processes $W^\pm Z/\gamma\to \ell^\pm N \to \ell^\pm \ell^\pm W^\mp\to \ell^\pm \ell^\pm q\bar{q}'$ with an on-shell HNL $N$ at $\mu^+\mu^-$ colliders. In analogy to neutrinoless double-beta decay with the HNL in t-channel, the LNV signature $W^+W^+\to \ell^+\ell^+$ can also happen via VBS at same-sign muon collider. They provide clean and robust LNV signatures to tell the nature of Majorana HNLs and thus have more advantageous benefits than direct $\mu\mu$ annihilation. We analyze the potential of searching for Majorana HNL and obtain the exclusion limits on mixing $V_{\ell N}$.

Abstract

We obtain the pion decay constant and coefficients of fourth derivative terms in the chiral Lagrangian for massless quarks in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model. We extract these quantities from the two-pion scattering amplitude, which we compute directly in the holographic dual through tree-level Witten diagrams. Identification of the low energy coefficients in the chiral action is subtle as their values will be shifted when the tower of massive vector bosons are integrated out. Indeed, by a direct comparison with the existing standard procedure of constructing the chiral action with radial modes in the gravity dual, we explicitly show that there are finite 't Hooft coupling corrections that have been missed. This suggests that past derivations of effective actions from holographic models may have to be revisited and future derivations more carefully considered., Comment: 34 pages, 3 figures; v2: published and revised version including now also discussion on vector-meson contributions, several added refs., and clarifications (conclusions unchanged)

Abstract

We introduce version 2.0 of $Z'$-explorer, a software tool which provides a simple, fast and user-friendly test of models with an extra $U(1)$ gauge boson ($Z'$) against experimental LHC results. The main novelty of the second version is the inclusion of missing energy searches, as the first version only included final states into SM particles. Hence $Z'$-explorer 2.0 is able to test dark matter models where the $Z'$ acts as an s-channel mediator between the Standard Model and the dark sector, a widespread benchmark employed by the ATLAS and CMS experimental collaborations. To this end, we perform here the first public reinterpretation of the most recent ATLAS mono-jet search with 139 fb$^{-1}$. In addition, the corresponding searches in the visible final states have also been updated. We illustrate the power of our code by re-obtaining public plots, and also showing novel results. In particular, we study the cases where the $Z'$ couples strongly to top quarks (top-philic), where dark matter couples with a mixture of vector and axial-vector couplings, and also perform a scan in the parameter space of a string inspired St\"uckelberg model. $Z'$-explorer 2.0 is publicly available on GitHub., Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, 3 tables

Abstract

For the purpose of cross-fertilising currently separate experimental approaches, we connect results of LHC analyses attempting to access the properties of additional $W^\prime$ and $Z^\prime$ bosons from Drell-Yan processes. Under theoretical assumptions linking the two new gauge bosons, we take into account that such possible states of nature are wide enough (in relation to the leptonic mass resolution) for the corresponding signals be significantly affected by interference effects with the background from the Standard Model. The shape of the differential cross section may then no longer be a standard Breit-Wigner distribution, and asymmetry observables would become useful for characterisation (and, possibly, discovery) purposes. Under such conditions we concentrate our analysis on specific widely-studied models: the Sequential Standard Model, a model with an additional $SU(2)_L$ gauge symmetry, as well as standard and alternative realisations of the Left-Right Symmetric Model. We show how information gathered in $Z'$ boson searches in terms of cross section and/or asymmetry distributions can be used to improve $W'$ boson searches in terms of the LHC sensitivity, and {\it vice versa}., 24 pages, 14 figures
