BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury is a serious hazard. Walking dysfunction affects the patients’ quality of life most. Researches on assisted-walking with exoskeleton robots on patients with spinal cord injury have become increasingly active. OBJECTIVE: To map scientific researches of exoskeleton-assisted walking after spinal cord injury using the CiteSpace software, and to discuss the state of art, cutting-edges in the past 10 years, and trends of research in this field, in hope of providing insights for future investigations and clinical applications. METHODS: Using the Web of Science core database to conduct subject term search by Boolean logical operators, the language English was selected, search strategy: TS=“spinal cord injury OR SCI” AND “walk OR walking” AND “robot OR exoskeleton OR (exoskeleton-assisted walking) OR EAW”. The knowledge graph software CiteSpace 6.2.R4 was used to de-emphasize the high-quality literature. The high-quality literature obtained after reweighting was subjected to visualization analysis of hotspots and international frontier trends, such as the number of publications, country/research institution cooperation, high-influence authors/literature co-citation, keyword co-occurrence/clustering/emergence, and the scientific knowledge graph was mapped. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) A total of 544 high-quality articles were included, and the number of articles and total citation frequency in this field have shown an increasing trend in the past 10 years. (2) The top 3 countries in terms of number of publications are the USA, China, and Italy, and the top 3 research institutions are the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Veterans Health Administration, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Domian. (3) The authors with the highest citation frequency (167) and betweenness centrality (0.13) are Professor Esquenazi A, University of Pennsylvania, USA, showing a high influence in this field. (4) The analysis of the top 5 cited documents in terms of citation frequency and betweenness centrality shows that: the current research on walking rehabilitation for spinal cord injury patients equipped with powered exoskeleton devices focuses on the judgment of the safety of walking rehabilitation training in real-life environments such as institutions and homes, analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of walking rehabilitation training, design of individualized training programs, and the advantages and disadvantages of the application of powered exoskeleton devices in assisted walking for patients with complete loss of locomotor function in thoracic vertebrae and the segments below, the factors affecting the effectiveness of assisted walking, and the potential for application. (5) In recent years, research in this field has focused on individuals, gait, powered exoskeleton, body weight support, functional electrical stimulation, rehabilitation, assistive technology, ambulation, recovery, and so on. (6) Early research in this field was mostly applied to stroke patients, and the frontier includes weight loss support, reciprocating gait orthosis, functional electrical stimulation and other technical means. Spinal cord injury exoskeleton-assisted walking rehabilitation research has shown an upward trend in recent years, and the focus of attention to the development of adaptive control as the mechanism of the medical lower extremity exoskeleton equipment, safety enhancement, the application of the potential to tap into the cutting-edge direction of the change, the research and detection means on the joint function of the near-infrared spectroscopic imaging and other highend technologies, focusing on the quality of life of the patient to enhance the ability of athletic training, and to improve the body’s structure of the field of the future hotspots and the frontier of the research. Background: Extensive research has been conducted worldwide on non-specific low back pain (NSLBP), some researchers published a bibliometric analysis of NSLBP in 2020, but there have been no supplements or updates since then. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the research hotspots and frontiers in NSLBP over the last decade. Methods: Primary sources on NSLBP were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database from 2014 to 2023. CiteSpace V6.2. R7 (64-bit) and VOSviewer 1.6.19 software were used to analyze the number and centrality of journals, countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords, and the functions of co-occurrence and clustering were applied to draw a visual knowledge map. Results: In the past decade, the annual publication volume of studies on NSLBP has shown an overall upward trend year by year, with obvious temporal stages and great development potential. In total, 2,103 articles contained six types of literature, with the highest proportion being original research articles (1,633 articles, 77.65%), published in 200 journals. BMC Musculoskeletal Discourses (90 articles, 4.28%) had the highest number of publications, and the British Medical Journal had the highest impact factor (105.7). Furthermore, the United States of America (329 articles, 15.64%) had the highest publication volume, the University of Sydney (139 articles, 6.61%) was the research institution with the highest production, Maher, Chris G (36 articles, 1.71%) was the author with the most published articles, and Hoy, D (571 articles, 27.15%) was the most frequently cited author. The most cited of articles is "Non-specific low back pain" published in the LANCET, with 1,256 citations. Conclusion: This article summarizes the current research status of NSLBP and predicts future research hotspots and frontiers. In recent years, adolescents have become a high-risk group for NSLBP. Pain neuroscience education, motor control, spinal manipulative therapy, and acupuncture are effective means to treat NSLBP. Biomechanics and trunk muscles as entry points are effective ideas for the treatment of NSLBP pain. Furthermore, anxiety, neck pain, non-specific musculoskeletal pain, fibromyalgia, and musculoskeletal disorders are diseases that are closely related to NSLBP. In the future, attention should be paid to the design of research plans, increasing the research intensity of randomized controlled trials, strengthening follow-up, and the timely updating of guidelines, which will result in higher quality and high-level scientific evidence for research on NSLBP. Gut microbiota has been confirmed to be closely related to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Research on gut microbiota and AD has also increased significantly. This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric and visual analysis of published studies related to gut microbiota and AD. Based on the Web of Science Core Collection SCI-Expanded database, we utilize Excel 2019 and visualization analysis tools VOSviewer, Co-Occurrence13.2 (COOC13.2), Citespace, HistCite, and Bibliometrix (R-Tool of R-Studio) for analysis. A total of 1093 related kinds of literature were included, and the number of papers presented an overall increasing trend. The country/region with the most publications is China, the institution is Zhejiang University, the author is Walter J Lukiw from the USA, and the journal is the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. Hotspot research areas include the relationship between gut microbiota metabolism and AD, AD treatments related to the gut microbiota, and diseases related to AD and gut microbiota. The future research direction may be T cells, NLRP3 inflammasome, and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Studies on AD and gut microbiota have grown rapidly in recent years. Aim: To summarize and analyze the research trends and frontiers in maintenance therapy for ovarian cancer over the past 20 years. Methods: Relevant articles were identified in Web of Science, and analyzed using CiteSpace and Excel. Results: 1204 articles from 61 countries led by the USA and England were included. 6821 authors, 2345 institutions and 292 journals have participated in the publication of papers, but the collaboration between them was not very close. The annual publication volume has increased significantly since 2015. Drug combination therapy, genetic testing, management of adverse reaction and prognostic factors are research trends and frontiers of this field. Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric research in this field, which can provide some references for researchers. Article highlights This is the first bibliometric research about maintenance therapy for ovarian cancer. A total of 1204 articles were collected in this study from January 2000 to September 2022, with 728 articles and 476 reviews. Since 2015, the number of articles has rapidly increased, and will continue to grow, indicating that maintenance therapy for ovarian cancer is receiving increasing attention from scholars. The top two most cited publications focused on Niraparib and Olaparib Maintenance Therapy in Platinum-Sensitive, Recurrent Ovarian Cancer. The USA and England were the top two ranked countries with the most publications. However, less cooperation was observed among institutions from these countries. The USA and Univ Texas MD Anderson Canc Ctr were the most impact country and institution, respectively. Chemotherapy drugs alone, PARP inhibitors alone, or antiangiogenesis drugs alone were used for 1st-line, 2rd-line, or late-line maintenance therapy are the research foundation. Drug combination maintenance therapy based on effective monotherapy, as well as genetic testing, management of adverse reaction and prognostic factors are research trends and frontiers of maintenance therapy for ovarian cancer. In Ghana, new oil and gas discoveries at a time of global decarbonization and energy transition have put into question the viability of the country's hydrocarbon reserves and their promises of prosperity and development. As the country anticipates stranded assets, a discourse of carbon justice has emerged around new oil and gas extraction that emphasizes differentiated responsibilities for carbon emissions and colonial legacies of energy underdevelopment. In this paper, I explore the assemblage of what I call the "moral frontiers" of the energy transition through the case of natural gas expansion. I focus on the Atuabo gas processing plant in Ghana's Western region, built in 2016 during an acute energy crisis to provide indigenous gas from the oilfields to the grid. Amidst growing opposition to and declining investment in oil, natural gas at Atuabo is presented as a "bridging fuel" that reconciles, physically and ethically, the contradictions of global decarbonization imperatives with local demands for industrialization, energy access, security and sovereignty. Through the materiality of gas infrastructure at Atuabo – including the land acquisition process, the take-or-pay contracts of its IPPs, the operations of the plant and its applications, and the contested environmental impact of the plant – I argue that gas' liminality as a transition or bridge fuel reshapes the moral and political possibilities of fossil fuels in a global but unequal energy transition. Subsequently, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix Online Analysis Platform were used to analyze publications, countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords.Results: A total of 721 papers were included in the study. The publication output increased from 20 papers in 2000 to 64 papers in 2023, a remarkable 220.00% growth. The USA (138 papers) and University of California San Francisco (21 papers) were identified as the most productive country and institution, respectively. Moser (10 papers), and Dracup (10 papers) are the most productive authors. “BMC Public Health” (24 publications) is the most productive journal. “Patient Delay” was the most cited keyword, with high-frequency keywords such as “Prehospital Delay”, “Symptoms”, “Time”, “Care”, “Diagnosis”, “Acute Myocardial-infarction”, and “Mortality” signaling hot topics in Patient Delay.Conclusion: There are increasingly many papers on patient delay. However, there has been limited development of cooperation between countries and institutions. In the future, collaboration between countries and institutions should be strengthened. While conflict and the resulting damage to livelihoods displacement are commonly seen as socio-economically and politically disruptive, yet it is essential to recognize that they can also present opportunities for social transformation and collective continuity. This study used historical methods to examine how Garri communities cope with recurring displacement and instability. Through historical analysis and interviews, the study explores Garri's resilience in a complex political setting. Garri's ability to handle crises and create stability is influenced by their historical experiences, cultural adaptations, and strategic alliances. Particularly, the Garri shift from reactive to proactive resilience helped them maintain their collective continuity and ontological security. The town-making and commercialized pastoralism highlights their adaptability to uncertainties and proactive response to evolving circumstances. Proactive resilience is irreversible, sequential, autonomous, and result-oriented. Therefore, Garri's resilience mechanisms reveal multifaceted narratives of adaptation, transformation, and strategic response, offering valuable insights into the complex dynamics of survival, living with and adapting to uncertainties, and community rebuilding within a dynamic environment. The study argues that conflict and displacement, despite their hardships, should be viewed as opportunities for collective development and continuity. Communities can achieve ontological security and collective continuity by adopting proactive resilience mechanisms and seeking constructive solutions.

The article aims to provide an analysis based on the practical experience of social intervention in violence prevention with migrant minors arriving alone in Spain. In order to offer keys and recommendations, and based on situated knowledge, we provide insights on how to approach the intervention framework from a methodological point of view using liminal spaces as border and transition places that need to be named and taken into consideration for a transformative work. Different metaphorical borders, characterized by tension and potential change, are analyzed from a gender and intersectional perspective. We discuss the Law-border and the tension between protection they receive as minors and exclusion/politics of suspicion they receive as migrants. The Age-border (children/men) is discussed taking into account the different gender regimes they cross. The Color-border: here issues of racism and colonialism are considered. Finally, we discuss the Masculinity-border and the tension between reception and the reproduction of violence. We use the concept of liminal masculinities as a specific state or form that subordinate or marginalized masculinity adopts in migrant minors, suspended legally, functionally, and biographically, among others borders. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive type of breast cancer with poor prognosis, and neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) has emerged as an important component in managing advanced-stage patients by providing surgical opportunities and improving survival outcomes. A search of publications on NAT for TNBC from 2002 to 2023 was conducted through the Web of Science core collection. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was conducted on the data using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix. The analysis revealed a continuous and steady growth in the number of articles published in this field over the past 20 years. The United States has made significant contributions to this field, with The University of TexasMDAnderson Cancer Center publishing the most articles. Loibl, S. from Germany was found to be the most published author with 54 articles. Analysis of the journals showed that the Journal of Clinical Oncology is the most cited journal. Combined with the keyword co-occurrence analysis and clustering analysis, current research topic focuses on treatment regimens and disease prognosis. Dual-map overlay of the journals indicates that the research trend is gradually shifting from molecular biology and genetics to immunology and clinical research. Combination therapy, including immunotherapy, may be the future direction for NAT treatment of TNBC. The Duri highlands in South Sulawesi have often been a contested frontier for resources, identities and political influence. This article discusses the issue of identities as ideologies within the framework of the political economies of the Duri highlands as a frontier region. It outlines different typologies of frontiers and explains how they have played a role in the history of the region. The article argues that the area was--and still should be--considered a frontier of extraction and of control. These frontiers formed in regard to different identities such as being Muslim, Indonesian or indigenous. Analysing more recent events, the article examines indigenous identity through which activists and local communities gain land titles. This process, it is argued, is of relevance in regard to the frontiers of control and extraction. The issue of indigenous land titles and the respective identities are the newest processes that shape the frontier, and while they discursively incorporate these areas into national development ideologies, they also make possible certain degrees of indigenous self-determination. This paper explores the intersections between two phenomena that have shaped eastern Kachin State in Myanmar's northern borderlands with China since the late 1980s: the transformation of once-remote spaces into resource frontiers shaped by overlapping and cumulative forms of export-oriented resource extraction, and the upsurge of opium cultivation and drug use. Through the analytic of extractivism, we examine how the modalities surrounding logging and plantations in the Myanmar-China borderlands offer critical insights into how drugs have become entrenched in the region's political economy and the everyday lives of people 'living with' the destruction, violence and insecurity wrought by extractive development. This paper explores illegal coca crop expansion in indigenous Amazonian communities in Peru. The ethnographic study sheds light on the historical development of these areas as frontier spaces, where the growth of illicit crops intertwines with socio-ecological transformations and gives rise to conflicts over new forms of land control, opportunities for capital accumulation, and political power dynamics. The paper argues that this expansion is shaped by dual processes: from 'below,' involving small-scale migrant farmers from the Andes, and from 'above,' primarily driven by state-led agrarian interventions. Consequently, communities experience significant tensions, as they adapt to the forces of market expansion to secure their livelihoods, while simultaneously facing risks of violence and insecurity. In Quebec, geopolitics has not given rise, as a research field, to lively epistemological debates as was the case in France and elsewhere. At the crossroads of the French and Anglo‐Saxon schools of thought, Quebec's geopolitics developed progressively, with a few pioneers in the 1960s, to become an integral part of the geography discipline in the 1980s, driven by geopolitical issues related to the issue of Quebec within Canada. Archaeologists traditionally assess the archaeological record of the International Four Corners area through a perspective focused on external cultural traditions and processes. In particular, prior interpretations view the history of this portion of the American Southwest/Mexican Northwest as either the northern periphery of the Casas Grandes culture or the southern extent of the Salado culture. However, there are few systematic investigations of excavated sites and individual site excavation reports that offer competing views of a highly connected frontier or a weakly integrated, independent series of residential sites. To better understand the dynamics of the region, I analyzed ca. 80,000 ceramic artifacts from 11 sites and compared the assemblages. Results demonstrate that sites in the area have dynamic internal histories that do not readily fit within existing models for peripheral zones. I interpret the collective assemblages as indicative of a borderlands zone wherein mixed identities, exchange networks, and ethnicities abounded. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Blood flow and glomerular filtration in the kidney are regulated by two mechanisms acting on the afferent arteriole of each nephron. The two mechanisms operate as limit cycle oscillators, each responding to a different signal. The myogenic mechanism is sensitive to a transmural pressure difference across the wall of the arteriole, and tubuloglomerular feedback (TGF) responds to the NaCl concentration in tubular fluid flowing into the nephrons distal tubule,. The two mechanisms interact with each other, synchronize, cause oscillations in tubular flow and pressure, and form a bimodal electrical signal that propagates into the arterial network. The electrical signal enables nephrons adjacent to each other in the arterial network to synchronize, but non-adjacent nephrons do not synchronize. The arteries supplying the nephrons have the morphologic characteristics of a rooted tree network, with 3 motifs characterizing nephron distribution. We developed a model of 10 nephrons and their afferent arterioles in an arterial network that reproduced these structural characteristics, with half of its components on the renal surface, where experimental data suitable for model validation is available, and the other half below the surface, from which no experimental data has been reported. The model simulated several interactions: TGF-myogenic in each nephron with TGF modulating amplitude and frequency of the myogenic oscillation; adjacent nephron-nephron with strong coupling; non-adjacent nephron-nephron, with weak coupling because of electrical signal transmission through electrically conductive arterial walls; and coupling involving arterial nodal pressure at the ends of each arterial segment, and between arterial nodes and the afferent arterioles originating at the nodes. The model predicted full synchronization between adjacent nephrons pairs and partial synchronization among weakly coupled nephrons, reproducing experimental findings. The model also predicted aperiodic fluctuations of tubular and arterial pressures lasting longer than TGF oscillations in nephrons, again confirming experimental observations. The model did not predict complete synchronization of all nephrons.

Gastric cancer (GC) imposes a heavy burden on global public health, and microRNAs (miRNAs) play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of GC. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the hotspots and frontiers in the field of miRNAs in GC to guide future research. A total of 2,051 publications related to miRNAs in GC from January 2013 to December 2023 were searched from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace was used to identify research hotspots and delineate developmental trends. In the past decade, China, Nanjing Medical University, and Ba Yi were the most contributing research country, institute, and author in this field, respectively. The role of miRNAs as biomarkers in GC, the mechanism of miRNAs in the progression of GC, and the impact of the mutual effects between miRNAs and Helicobacter pylori on GC have been regarded as the research hotspots. The mechanisms of miRNAs on glucose metabolism and the application of the roles of circular RNAs as miRNA sponges in GC treatment will likely be frontiers. Overall, this study called for strengthened cooperation to identify targets and therapeutic regimes for local specificity and high-risk GC types, and to promote the translation of research results into clinical practice. The field of education is undergoing significant transformations, which implies that valuable views from the past may be completely overlooked in the rapid progress we are experiencing. Transhumanism, as a prevailing ideology, appears to imply an advancement at an ever-increasing speed. An interesting prospect would be to reflect on transhumanism in relation to retroprogression and phronesis to understand how limitations operate within the realm of education. Interpretation, therefore, becomes one of the fundamental tools for educators in this highly complex environment. Their role as meta-interpreters can be founded in a return to hermeneutics as both an art and a science. By doing this, the past and future can be harmonized in the present, with the transhumanist principles maintaining the human element. In conclusion, education will continue to be an act of human understanding that necessitates complete attention and presence of educators, who are, therefore, able to offer meaningful actions by properly understanding the here and now and the uniqueness of every teaching situation. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the current research hotspots and frontiers of CHs over the past decade. Methods: Raw data on CHs was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database from 2014 to 2023. CiteSpace V6.2 R7 (64 bit) and Microsoft Excel were used to assess the annual publication volume, authors, countries, and references. VOSviewer 1.6.19 software was used to assess the institutions, cited authors, and keywords, and co-occurrence and clustering functions were applied to draw a visual knowledge map. Results: In the past decade, the overall annual publication volume of articles related to CHs has increased year by year, showing promising development prospects. The total 1909 articles contained six types of literature, among which the proportion of original research articles was the highest (1,270 articles, 66.53%), published in 201 journals. Cephalalgia (439 articles, 23.00%) had the highest publication volume, and the Lancet was the journal with the highest impact factor (IF = 168.9). Furthermore, the United States of America was the country with the most published papers (584 articles, 30.60%), University of London was the research institution with the most published papers (142 articles, 7.44%), and Goodsby, Peter J was found to be the most prolific author (38 articles, 1.99%). Conclusion: This study may provide some direction for subsequent researcher on CHs. The hotspots and frontiers of future research on CHs are suggested as follows: in basic medicine, more attention should be paid to pathophysiology, especially on increasing research on the pathogenesis mediated by CGRP; in clinical medicine, more attention should be paid to the design of evidence-based medicine methodology, especially the strict design, including double-blind, questionnaire, and follow-up, in randomized controlled trials, using high-quality articles for meta-analyses, and recommending high-level evidence; therapeutic techniques need to be further explored, suggesting the implementation of transcranial magnetic stimulation of the cortex, and stimulation of the sphinopalatine ganglia and occipital nerve to achieve peripheral neuromodulation. Across the nineteenth century, European surveyors, explorers and mountaineers often sought to constitute the Himalaya as spaces of imperial duty, escape from civilisation, and manly experiences against and in nature. Rather than focusing on the homosociality of the better known climbing ventures of the twentieth century, this article instead considers the period before Mount Everest became the main prize. In particular, it examines an eclectic mix of Himalayan expeditions that made claims to the world 'altitude record': that is, the highest height ever climbed above sea level. The different ways that climbers discussed and doubted these record-seeking climbs in their accounts, and especially in talks at the Royal Geographical Society in London, provide a series of snapshots into manly self-fashioning around suffering and self-reliance at the edge of the British Empire. Here the masculinities of non-European guides and porters (especially Gurkhas) also always provided both a foil and a challenge. Ultimately, attempts on the altitude record reveal the way that casting the Himalaya as a space for the narration of masculine ideals and imperial expansion could be both mutually reinforcing and in conflict. Expressions of homosociality nevertheless also shifted across the nineteenth century, with the filling in of the last 'blank spaces' on the map seemingly narrowing the canvas for manly outdoor experiences. This was compounded by the way the Himalaya were constituted and maintained as spaces for manly experiences in part by the exclusion of women, even as women like Fanny Bullock Workman were themselves climbing towards record heights. This essay explores the role of feral pigs in assembling the Texas frontier. Quick to reproduce, highly adaptive, and destroyers of agricultural fields, feral pigs have emerged over the past decade as one of the principal challenges facing agriculture and land management systems in Texas. Yet, more than simply a pest, feral pigs have and continue to be active agents in forging new landscapes, ecologies, and settler‐colonial relations. We trace the history of the present pig "crisis" by exploring three paradigms for thinking pigs and the politics of ferality on the Texas frontier. These paradigms frame pigs as: "settler beasts" (companion species to settler expansion); "melting‐pot beasts" (feral pigs as representing diverse genetic remnants of settler expansion); and "invader beasts" (feral pigs framed as a threat). This article examines the architectural dimensions of the remise, a courtly ceremony that marked the moment when a royal bride departed her homeland to be given into her new husband's possession. Staged in frontier zones, this ritual was often facilitated by ephemeral structures such as bridges and pavilions that, as part of their ritual function, marked out firm boundaries where none existed before. This study focuses on the remise staged in 1745 on a disputed island, the Isle of Pheasants, for the marriage of Princess Maria Teresa Rafaela of Spain to the French dauphin Louis-Ferdinand. Using state papers, contracts, and ceremonial texts, the article reconstructs the ephemeral spaces in which the handover was transacted. In doing so, this study reveals both the architectural stage management of the Franco-Spanish relationship and, more broadly, the spatial and ritual practices that undergirded early modern European diplomacy. The article aims to provide an analysis based on the practical experience of social intervention in violence prevention with migrant minors arriving alone in Spain. In order to offer keys and recommendations, and based on situated knowledge, we provide insights on how to approach the intervention framework from a methodological point of view using liminal spaces as border and transition places that need to be named and taken into consideration for a transformative work. Different metaphorical borders, characterized by tension and potential change, are analyzed from a gender and intersectional perspective. We discuss the Law-border and the tension between protection they receive as minors and exclusion/politics of suspicion they receive as migrants. The Age-border (children/men) is discussed taking into account the different gender regimes they cross. The Color-border: here issues of racism and colonialism are considered. Finally, we discuss the Masculinity-border and the tension between reception and the reproduction of violence. We use the concept of liminal masculinities as a specific state or form that subordinate or marginalized masculinity adopts in migrant minors, suspended legally, functionally, and biographically, among others borders.

A crop boom is a sudden, nonlinear and intense expansion of a new crop. Despite their large impacts, boom-bust dynamics are not well understood; booms are largely unpredictable and difficult to steer once they unfold. Based on the striking resemblances between land regime shifts and crop booms, we apply complex systems theory, highlighting the potential for regime shifts, to provide new insights about crop boom dynamics. We analyse qualitative and quantitative data of rubber and banana plantation expansion in two forest frontier regions of northern Laos. We show that preconditions, including previous booms, explain the occurrence (why) of booms, and triggers like policy and market changes explain their timing (when). Yet, the most important features of booms, their intensity and nonlinearity (how), strongly depended on internal self-reinforcing feedbacks. We identify built-in feedbacks (neighbourhood effects and imitation) and emergent feedbacks (land rush) and show that they were social in nature, multi-scale from plot to region and subject to thresholds. We suggest that these are regular features of booms and propose a definition and causal-mechanistic explanation of crop booms, examining the overlap between booms and regime shifts and the role of frontiers. We then identify opportunities for management interventions before, during and after booms.

This article compares the way in which the tensions and confrontations between Argentina and Chile are remembered by going through the memories of violence in a marginal and frontier region, in the valleys of the Cochamó, Manso and Puelo rivers, included between Chile and Argentina. We focus particularly on the consequences of the Beagle conflict in 1978, when the dictatorships of the two countries almost started a war. In the territory under analysis, this episode impacted daily life and the perception of the Other, historically characterized by a cross—border relational dynamic.

Accurate prediction of wind power generation in regions characterised by complex terrain is a critical gap in renewable energy research. To address this challenge, the present study articulates a novel methodological framework using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to improve wind power forecasting in such geographically diverse areas. The core research question is to investigate the extent to which terrain complexity affects forecast accuracy. To this end, DeepSHAP -- an advanced interpretability technique -- is used to dissect the CNN model and identify the most significant features of the weather forecast grid that have the greatest impact on forecast accuracy. Our results show a clear correlation between certain topographical features and forecast accuracy, demonstrating that complex terrain features are an important part of the forecasting process. The study's findings support the hypothesis that a detailed understanding of terrain features, facilitated by model interpretability, is essential for improving wind energy forecasts. Consequently, this research addresses an important gap by clarifying the influence of complex terrain on wind energy forecasting and provides a strategic pathway for more efficient use of wind resources, thereby supporting the wider adoption of wind energy asa sustainable energy source, even in regions with complex terrain. In the present article we are going to analyse an attempt by the colonial government of Virreinato del Río de la Plata to re-group some indigenous communities of the Charrúa and the Minuano through negotiation with two Charrúa Caciques (Chieftains) as mediators. We are going to examine the conditions proposed in the agreement, the role of the Caciques as mediators in the peace talks, the objective conditions to achieve a lasting peace as well as the actions of deserters that inhabited the tolderías. By the end of the eighteenth century, the countryside of Banda Oriental del Uruguay was traversed by diverse problematic conditions as a consequence of its complexity as a political, international and interethnic frontier. On one hand, the condition of the political frontier between the Spanish and the Portuguese generated an increasing conflict due to military tensions, smuggling, livestock driving to Brazil, illegal slaughtering and the resulting violence towards the rural inhabitants and indigenous populations. In the Hispanic-American colonial frontiers with indigenous peoples of Mapuche culture, elaborate diplomatic traditions anchored in prehispanic protocols and ceremonies took form between the end of the sixteenth and beginning of the eighteenth centuries. During the parlamentos (diplomatic encounters) that took place in the Araucanian frontier (Chile today), Spaniards progressively substituted the traditional Winter’s bark or Canelo tree branches -considered by the Mapuche as symbols of peace-for batons of command, meant to define those who received and used them as friendly caciques, holders of a pacifying and receptive power. In the frontiers of Mendoza and Buenos Aires (Argentina today), on the contrary, command batons appear as a purely colonial innovation that the Cacique considered a source of prestige. Spaniards used these objects as a means to increase internal hierarchies as well as to promote dissension among different groups. I intend to retrace the overall lines of the process through which the Canelo tree branch -a sign of high symbolic value in Mapuche diplomacy-was appropriated and gradually replaced by the hispanic baton of command, thus distorting its initial meaning as a peace sign to turn it into the materialisation of a delegated power, dignity and rank flowing from the Spanish king. In the late seventeenth century the Spanish colonial administration began to issue decrees that sought to implement the familiar colonial policies of entrada, reducción, and misión within an unconquered region of the Province of Honduras called by the Spanish Leán y Mulia. After a few short-lived settlements in the early part of the eighteenth century, a new wave of Franciscans began attempts to convert the Xicaque of Leán y Mulia in 1747–54. In 1751 the onset of a smallpox epidemic at the Franciscan misiones became the watershed event that defined subsequent interaction between the Spanish and the Xicaque and, because of this, defined Spanish policy within the region of Leán y Mulia. A fear of contracting the disease would subsequently linger in the memory of the Xicaque at the misiones and in Leán y Mulia. This dread of disease and sickness predetermined subsequent social relationships between the Xicaque and the Spanish settlers who sought their indoctrination and acculturation in subsequent decades of the eighteenth and nineteenth century with no success. Research on the Mongol conquest of Iran and the Transcaucasus has focused most heavily on the campaigns of Chinggis Khan and his nephew Hülegü, in 1219–1224 and 1256–1260 respectively. Significantly less attention has been given to the nearly four decades that separate these two invasions, during which Mongol control was consolidated by a tamma (garrison) army numbering roughly 30,000 soldiers. This garrison occupied a liminal position on the frontier of the Mongol empire, linking the great khan to regional vassals in Iran, Greater Armenia, Georgia, and eastern Anatolia. This paper will use the history of the tamma to illuminate the web of personal relationships that allowed the Mongol empire to project its authority into the Middle East. It will demonstrate that this network was extremely brittle during the first three decades after Chinggis Khan's death, during which time the Mongol empire was still taking shape. Founded by Chinggis Khan, the tamma owed its loyalty to the great khan in Mongolia, yet long interregnums and political instability at the heart of empire forced the Mongol garrison to identify regional princes and princesses as suitable substitutes for political authority. This collaborative approach embroiled the tamma in the factional politics at the heart of the Mongol empire and ultimately brought about its destruction in 1261. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the widespread phenomenon of anti-colonial movements that relied on magical rituals for protection against European weapons. It examines both the beliefs of the magical practitioners themselves, and those of colonizing observers whose fascination with stories of "primitive magic" contributed to their contrasting self-representations as superior beings in possession of technological wonders. North America's Ghost Dance movement, China's Boxer Rebellion, and East Africa's Maji Maji uprising took place on three different continents but occurred almost simultaneously. The frontier is not a self-evident notion. This is all the more true when it is envisaged in an imperial framework affirmed as such in terms of political ambition. To ask the question of the borders of the Roman Empire, from its maximum extension with Trajan to the shock wave produced by the year 410, is not, however, anecdotal in order to understand the issues of government that arose during this period, and the very nature of the Roman Empire. To take the measure of it, it is also necessary, in a preliminary way, to wonder about the way in which the historians understood and interpreted its borders. These were the subject of important debates, giving rise to new approaches developed over the last thirty years. These are the aspects that this paper proposes to address, considering the issue that frontiers have represented in terms of government.

Abstract Background As the complexity and diversity of the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) are becoming better understood, burgeoning research has progressed in this field. However, there is a scarcity of literature specifically focused on the bibliometric analysis of this topic. This study sought to investigate the development pattern of TIME-related research from 2006 to September 14, 2022, from a bibliometric perspective. Methods We acquired both articles and reviews related to TIME from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) (retrieved on September 14, 2022). R package “Bibliometrix” was used to calculate the basic bibliometric features, present the collaborative conditions of countries and authors, and generate a three-field plot to show the relationships among authors, affiliations, and keywords. VOSviewer was utilized for co-authorship analysis of country and institution and keyword co-occurrence analysis. CiteSpace was used for citation burst analysis of keywords and cited references. In addition, Microsoft Office Excel 2019 was used to develop an exponential model to fit the cumulative publication numbers. Results A total of 2545 publications on TIME were included, and the annual publication trend exhibited a significant increase over time. China and Fudan University were the most productive country and institution, with the highest number of publications of 1495 and 396, respectively. Frontiers in Oncology held the highest number of publications. A number of authors were recognized as the main contributors in this field. The clustering analysis revealed six clusters of keywords that highlighted the research hot spots in the fields of basic medical research, immunotherapy, and various cancer types separately. Conclusions This research analyzed 16 years of TIME-related research and sketched out a basic knowledge framework that includes publications, countries, journals, authors, institutions, and keywords. The finding revealed that the current research hot spots of the TIME domain lie in “TIME and cancer prognosis”, “cancer immunotherapy”, and “immune checkpoint”. Our researchers identified the following areas: “immune checkpoint-based immunotherapy”, “precise immunotherapy” and “immunocyte pattern”, which may emerge as frontiers and focal points in the upcoming years, offering valuable avenues for further exploration.

In the Brazilian Amazon, forest conservation has relied on the presence of 'traditional communities' and Indigenous peoples to secure legally demarcated protected areas from deforestation and biodiversity degradation. Facing pressures for land-use change from a rapidly encroaching frontier of resource extraction and commodity production, there is no guarantee that Indigenous peoples or traditional communities will continue to occupy these forests or continue to fulfill the role of forest protectors except under certain conditions. In this article, we detail the case of the extractive reserves of the Terra do Meio and consider what conditions would be needed for traditional communities to continue to occupy and protect protected areas. Employing an agrarian political ecology approach, we draw on years of ethnographic research in this area to argue that forest peasant livelihoods, which revolve around the forest areas of use, produce both ecological and cultural diversity in the forest. We term this socio-ecological arrangement the productive system of the colocação, the system and geographies of forest peasant livelihoods that upholds and is upheld by diverse socio-ecological relationships. Contemporary forest conservation regimes, however, have largely failed to incentivize and value these forest peasant livelihoods in ways that would sustain them in the face of commoditizing frontier pressures. Any mechanisms that pay for forest conservation should remunerate communities for their entire socio-ecological relationships, those relationships that are upheld through forest peasant livelihoods, not simply their products. We propose an approach to valuing forest communities' socio-environmental services, and we argue that such valuation would be more effective for conservation and cultural/ecological diversity than existing proposals for payments for ecosystem services (PES).

Objective: To analyze the current research status, hotspots, and frontiers in the field of Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer and quality of life (QoL) through the bibliometrics method, and to provide references and guidance for future research. Methods: Literature related to GI cancer and QoL from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace 6.2.R1 was performed for collaboration analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and document co-citation analysis. Results: A total of 1224 publications were included in this study. There has been a significant increase in the number of publications in this field over the past two decades. The United States, the Karolinska Institute and the University of Amsterdam, and Pernilla Lagergren are the most prolific country, institution, and author, respectively. Background: Many studies have shown an association between COVID-19 and autoimmune diseases (ADs). Studies on COVID-19 and ADs have also increased significantly, but there is no bibliometric analysis to summarize the association between COVID-19 and ADs. The purpose of this study was to perform a bibliometric and visual analysis of published studies related to COVID-19 and ADs. Methods: Based on the Web of Science Core Collection SCI-Expanded database, we utilize Excel 2019 and visualization analysis tools Co-Occurrence13.2 (COOC13.2), VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and HistCite for analysis. Results: A total of 1736 related kinds of papers were included, and the number of papers presented an overall increasing trend. The country/region with the most publications is the USA, the institution is the Harvard Medical School, the author is Yehuda Shoenfeld from Israel, and the journal is Frontiers in Immunology. Research hotspots include immune responses (such as cytokines storm), multisystem ADs (such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis), treatment modalities (such as hydroxychloroquine, rituximab), vaccination and autoimmune mechanisms (such as autoantibodies, molecular mimicry). The future research direction may be the mechanisms and treatment ideas of the association between ADs and COVID-19 (such as NF-κB, hyperinflammation, antiphospholipid antibodies, neutrophil extracellular traps, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor), other cross-diseases of COVID-19 and ADs (such as inflammatory bowel disease, chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, acute respiratory distress syndrome). Conclusion: The growth rate of publications regarding ADs and COVID-19 has risen sharply. Many studies have shown that gut microbiota is closely related to autoimmune diseases (ADs). Studies on gut microbiota and ADs have also increased significantly, but no bibliometric analysis has summarized the association between gut microbiota and ADs. This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric and visual analysis of published studies on gut microbiota and ADs. Based on the Web of Science Core Collection SCI-expanded database, we utilize Excel 2019 and visualization analysis tools VOSviewer and co-occurrence13.2 (COOC13.2) for analysis. A total of 2516 related kinds of literature were included, and the number of papers presented an overall increasing trend. The country/region with the most publications is the USA, the institution is the Harvard Medical School, and the author is Mikael Knip from the USA. Hot research areas include intestinal regulation (such as dysbiosis, short chain fatty acids, and probiotics), multisystem ADs (such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease), and immune-related cells (such as T cells, and dendritic cells). Psoriasis, dysbiosis, autoimmune liver disease, and fecal microbiota transplantation may be the future research direction.
