Background: Development of obscured fingerprints on a diverse range of surfaces is a crucial aspect of forensic investigations. Aims and Objectives: In this particular study, the utilization of Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels (Jamun) seed powder was examined for the purpose of revealing hidden fingerprints on a variety of surfaces, including both permeable and impermeable substrates. Materials and Methods: The seed powder was extracted using a simple process and was analysed using multiple analytical techniques. The efficacy of the jamun seed powder in developing latent fingerprints was evaluated. Results: The findings of this investigation demonstrate that the jamun seed powder was capable of producing fingerprint patterns of exceptional quality and clarity on numerous surfaces. Conclusion: This research highlights the potential use of jamun seed powder as a practical and effective alternative for the development of hidden fingerprints in forensic investigations, while also providing cost-effectiveness.

Abstract Purpose Vitreous humor (VH) is used for postmortem biochemical studies because it is well protected in an uncontaminated state even after death. The goal of this research was to investigate electrolyte concentrations in the VH from human eyes with and without a history of vitrectomy surgery. Methods We analyzed the sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl) and magnesium (Mg) concentrations from 34 VH samples from 34 patients. Eleven samples were from eyes with a history of vitrectomy, and the remaining 23 eyes had no history of vitrectomy. The correlations of Na, K, Cl and Mg concentrations with patient age, interval between first and second vitrectomy, and lens status (history of cataract surgery) were also evaluated. Results The Na, K, Cl and Mg concentrations in VH from vitrectomized eyes were 134.1 ± 7.9 mmol/L, 3.7 ± 0.2 mmol/L, 99.7 ± 6.7 mmol/L and 0.59 ± 0.09 mmol/L, respectively; all were significantly lower than the corresponding concentrations in VH from control eyes (lower by 5.0%, 11.0%, 11.7%, and 22.6%, respectively). Na, K, Cl and Mg concentrations in VH from vitrectomized eyes did not show significant correlations with patient ages or the interval between their first and second vitrectomies. There were no significant differences in Na, K, Cl and Mg concentrations in VH between phakic eyes and intraocular lens-implanted eyes. Conclusions With the increasing number of vitrectomies being performed, it is necessary to consider the history of vitrectomy when using a subject’s VH in forensic examination.

- Abstract
Purpose: Cannabidiol (CBD) products are widely used for pain relief, sleep improvement, management of seizures etc. Although the concentrations of Δ
9 -tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9 -THC) in these products are low (≤0.3% w/w), it is important to investigate if its presence and/or that of its metabolite 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9 -THC, is traceable in plasma and urine samples of individuals who take CBD oil products. Methods: A sensitive GC/MS method for the determination of Δ9 -THC, 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9 -THC and CBD in plasma and urine samples was developed and validated. The sample preparation procedure included protein precipitation for plasma samples and hydrolysis for urine samples, solid-phase extraction and finally derivatization with N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide) with 1% trimethylchlorosilane. Results: For all analytes, the LOD and LOQ were 0.06 and 0.20 ng/mL, respectively. The calibration curves were linear (R2 ≥ 0.992), and absolute recoveries were ≥91.7%. Accuracy and precision were within the accepted range. From the analysis of biologic samples of 10 human participants who were taking CBD oil, it was realized that Δ9 -THC was not detected in urine, while 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9 -THC (0.69–23.06 ng/mL) and CBD (0.29–96.78 ng/mL) were found in all urine samples. Regarding plasma samples, Δ9 -THC (0.21–0.62 ng/mL) was detected in 10, 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9 -THC (0.20–2.44 ng/mL) in 35, while CBD (0.20–1.58 ng/mL) in 25 out of 38 samples, respectively. Conclusion: The results showed that Δ9 -THC is likely to be found in plasma although at low concentrations. In addition, the detection of 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9 -THC in both urine and plasma samples raises questions and concerns for the proper interpretation of toxicological results, especially considering Greece's zero tolerance law applied in DUID and workplace cases. Like student-centred learning, andragogy is concerned with adult learning through self- directed learning, active participation, and collaborative problem-solving. While andragogy has been extensively recognised as a viable method for adult learning, its application presents several obstacles in higher-level education institutions. This article aims to demonstrate how to design and implement this andragogical strategy, particularly in Forensic Science programs. Specifically, this article discusses an andragogical approach to conducting a crime scene investigation as a course assignment. This activity starting with strategizing the teaching plan with students, setting up the crime scene, crime scene reconstruction, presentation of the investigation results, peer evaluation, and getting the student feedback. This activity is often used in Forensic Science programmes to provide students with hands-on experience in processing a crime scene, collecting evidence, and analysing evidence. Typically, instructors prepare crime scenes for students to investigate. Instead of providing a pre-constructed crime scene, students are given the opportunity to create and produce their own crime scenes. This indirectly demands dedication, group cooperation, and wisdom in applying all their knowledge and experience in Forensic Science. This activity provides space for creative thinking among students, especially in creating crime scenes, evaluating evidence materials, and reconstructing crime incidents using the obtained evidence. This article also highlights the need for obtaining student feedback, as well as the knowledge generated, and challenges faced by educators in applying andragogy in learning activities. In the field of forensic entomology, Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart 1843) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) has proven to be an important species for postmortem interval (PMI) assessment in criminal investigations. The developmental patterns of C. rufifacies exhibit temperature-dependent variations that are geographically specific, and these variations are influenced by seasonal changes. Hence, understanding the geographically specific development patterns of C. rufifacies in response to temperature and seasonal changes is crucial for improving the accuracy of PMI predictions. In the present study, we examined the developmental rates of C. rufifacies across a temperature gradient (20 °C, 25 °C, 30 °C, 35 °C, and 40 °C). Primary objective of present study was to gather precise developmental data essential for calculating the post-mortem interval (PMI) within varying temperature ranges. Furthermore, we investigated the influence of seasonal variations, encompassing the summer, rainy and winter seasons, on the growth and developmental patterns of C. rufifacies. The results of present studies show that temperature significantly affects the growth and development of C. rufifacies. The length of developmental stages and morphological parameters varied seasonally, with longer duration and colder temperatures in winter and shorter duration and warmer temperatures in summer. The finding that faster development was directly correlated with higher temperatures highlighted the significance of temperature in affecting an insect's life cycle. Our research highlights the necessity of gathering information on evolution trends that are specific to a given area in order to accurately calculate PMI in forensic entomological investigations. Understanding the interactions between temperature, seasonal variation, and morphological traits is critical for establishing baseline data for PMI estimates. The accuracy of PMI estimates will ultimately increase thanks to this information, and forensic entomologists will have even more opportunities to contribute to forensic investigations. 12. Real time implementation of voice based robust person authentication using T-F features and CNN.

- Abstract
A forensic investigation uses personal traits to identify the persons involved in criminal offences. In this work on person authentication, the recorded voice samples can also be used to narrow down the search to identify persons. Time-frequency (T-F) features obtained from the concatenated training set of utterances are given to the convolutional neural networks (CNN), with layers configured for creating templates. Testing utterances are tied, and T-F features are derived. These features are applied to the CNN templates, and based on the match claimed, recognition accuracy is computed to validate the feature selection and CNN technique. Decision-level fusion of features with CNN for modelling and classification provides an overall authentication rate of 98%. This system is also implemented in real-time using Raspberry Pi hardware. This automated system would be helpful in identifying convicts in forensic sectors and perform secured online transactions against fraudulent attacks in financial sectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The preservation of drug stability in biological evidence during the processes of collection and storage poses a substantial obstacle to the progress of forensic investigations. In conjunction with other constituents, the microorganisms present in the samples play a vital role in this investigation. The present investigation employed the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique to assess the stability of (1R,2 S)-(–)-2-methylamino-1-phenyl-1-propanol hydrochloride in plasma and urine samples that were inoculated with Escherichia coli. These samples were subjected to storage conditions of 37 °C for 48 h and − 20 °C for a duration of 6 months. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of MPPH against E. coli were determined using microdilution method. The stability of MPPH in plasma and urine samples inoculated with E. coli was investigated using HPLC method. The results showed the MIC and MBC of MPPH were 87.5 ± 25 ppm and 175 ± 50 ppm, respectively. While MPPH remained stable in plasma for 48 h at 37 °C, it showed a notable decrease of about 11% in stability when stored in urine for the same period and temperature. From the beginning of the first month, a decrease in the stability of the compound appeared in all samples that were stored at − 20 °C, and the decrease reached 7% for plasma samples and about 11% for urine samples. The decrease in the stability reached its peak in the sixth month, reaching more than 30% and 70% of plasma and urine samples preserved at − 20 °C. This work concluded that E. coli can negatively affect the stability of MPPH in plasma and urine samples. The Dark Web is notorious for being a huge marketplace that promotes illegal products such as indecent images of children, drug, private data, and stolen financial data. To track criminals on the Dark Web, several challenges, arising from the Dark Web's nature, must be overcome. Dark websites frequently change domain names, so investigators find little evidence of criminals when using a common crawling method. Furthermore, disturbing material on the Dark Web threatens investigators' mental health and decreases the effectiveness of investigations. Above all, given the anonymity of the Dark Web, few clues remain to track criminals. To address these challenges, this article presents an advanced crawler to collect data considering the Dark Web ecosystem. Machine learning models that detect disturbing content are implemented to protect investigators' mental health. This article also describes tracking code and status module, pivotal clues that can strip the anonymity of perpetrators along with the cryptocurrency transactions studied in previous works. In this article, the current state of the Dark Web is introduced by analyzing 14,993 crawled dark websites. By presenting three case studies, it is proved that our proposed investigative methodology can identify operators of illegal dark websites by connecting dark websites with the corresponding surface websites. The American Society of Civil Engineers/Structural Engineering Institute (ASCE/SEI) 7 standard is utilized to determine design wind loading on buildings and other structures. However, it can also be utilized in a forensic capacity to approximate a wind speed that would cause specific conditions to occur, such as the overturning of a structure. This paper provides a brief overview of the ASCE/SEI 7 method for wind loading and discusses the use of various adjustment factors used to determine the wind on structures, including wind directionality factor, velocity pressure coefficient, topographic factor, and the ground elevation factor. 19. Gender and age-evolution detection based on audio forensic analysis using light deep neural network.

- Abstract
Forensic audio analysis is a foundation stone of many crime investigations. In forensic evidence; the audio file of the human voice is analyzed to extract much information in addition to the content of the speech, such as the speaker's identity, emotions, gender, origin, etc. The accurate determination of individuals into groups based on their age development stage and their gender are often used as early investigations to differentiate them and determine the legal rights and responsibilities associated with them. This work introduces a light CNN model with a new architecture to detect the human age-evolution being's stage (kids or adults) at the same time the gender of the adult one (male or female) based on the individual's voice characteristics, which offers a balance between computational efficiency and model accuracy. The temporal information in the audio file is prepared by scaled and normalized. Then this information is exploited to extract and track the unique and salient audio features that make up the pattern of the feature map for each target class through some convolutional layers followed by maxpooling layers. Finally, The decision is made based on these feature maps by some fully connected layers. Successful and promising results are accomplished in terms of accuracy and loss functions which realize 0.99 and 0.017 respectively over the riched Voxceleb2 dataset. The proposed model underscores the importance of leveraging Light DNNs for gender and age-evolution detection, offering a robust and ethically sound solution for real-world applications in the field of audio forensics such as span speaker identification, victim profiling, deception detection, and more, contributing to the advancement of audio forensic analysis. Increasingly sophisticated techniques for falsifying and forging legal documents demand non-destructive and accurate analysis methods. Researchers have extensively investigated ink discrimination through an interdisciplinary analysis involving Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics, which is now regarded as a leading forensic document analysis approach. In this study, a groundbreaking method was developed to identify the specific origin of blue-ink pens used in written documents. By employing Raman spectroscopy in conjunction with principal component analysis (PCA), we successfully differentiated between 45 different blue-ink pens used on various documents. The Raman spectroscopy analysis provided a visual examination of each blue ink's unique Raman signature, and PCA was then applied to the processed spectral data. Moreover, we successfully distinguished highly similar ink types in documents through the combined use of Raman spectroscopy, Pearson's correlation analysis, and a statistical approach (PCA). Abstract Disaster forensic approaches aim to identify the causes of disasters to support disaster risk management. However, few studies have conducted a systematic literature review of scientific articles that labeled themselves as a forensic approach to disasters. This article provides a qualitative analysis of these forensic studies, focusing on five main issues: (1) the methodologies applied; (2) the forensic approaches used in the disaster risk management phases; (3) the hazards addressed; (4) if the methodologies involve social participation, and using what types of participation; and (5) if there are references to urban planning in the scientific studies analyzed. Our results showed a predominance of the Forensic Investigations of Disasters (FORIN) and Post-Event Review Capability (PERC) methodologies used in isolation or combination. There is a need for methodologies that engage people in participatory FORIN, fostering the co-production of knowledge and action research approaches.

Increasingly sophisticated techniques for falsifying and forging legal documents demand non-destructive and accurate analysis methods. Researchers have extensively investigated ink discrimination through an interdisciplinary analysis involving Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics, which is now regarded as a leading forensic document analysis approach. In this study, a groundbreaking method was developed to identify the specific origin of blue-ink pens used in written documents. By employing Raman spectroscopy in conjunction with principal component analysis (PCA), we successfully differentiated between 45 different blue-ink pens used on various documents. The Raman spectroscopy analysis provided a visual examination of each blue ink’s unique Raman signature, and PCA was then applied to the processed spectral data. Moreover, we successfully distinguished highly similar ink types in documents through the combined use of Raman spectroscopy, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and a statistical approach (PCA).

This study examines the potential of hair shaft proteomic analysis to delineate genetic relatedness. Proteomic profiling and amino acid sequence analysis provide information for quantitative and statistically-based analysis of individualization and sample similarity. Protein expression levels are a function of cell-specific transcriptional and translational programs. These programs are greatly influenced by an individual's genetic background, and are therefore influenced by familial relatedness as well as ancestry and genetic disease. Proteomic profiles should therefore be more similar among related individuals than unrelated individuals. Likewise, profiles of genetically variant peptides that contain single amino acid polymorphisms, the result of non-synonymous SNP alleles, should behave similarly. The proteomically-inferred SNP alleles should also provide a basis for calculation of combined paternity and sibship indices. We test these hypotheses using matching proteomic and genetic datasets from a family of two adults and four siblings, one of which has a genetic condition that perturbs hair structure and properties. We demonstrate that related individuals, compared to those who are unrelated, have more similar proteomic profiles, profiles of genetically variant peptides and higher combined paternity indices and combined sibship indices. This study builds on previous analyses of hair shaft protein profiling and genetically variant peptide profiles in different real-world scenarios including different human hair shaft body locations and pigmentation status. It also validates the inclusion of proteomic information with other biomolecular substrates in forensic hair shaft analysis, including mitochondrial and nuclear DNA.

Cyber-criminals target individuals for financial gain or to cause harm to their assets, resulting in the loss or theft of millions of user data over the past few decades. Forensic professionals play a vital role in conducting successful investigations and acquiring legally acceptable evidence admissible in court proceedings using modern techniques. This study aims to provide an overview of forensic investigation methods for extracting digital evidence from computer systems and mobile devices to combat persistent cybercrime. 28. Topical Issues of Forensic Research of Firearms with Oval-Screw Drilling of the Bore 'Lancaster' and Its Traces on the Bullets

The article discusses the issues of developing the legal, scientific, and methodological foundations of the forensic investigation of firearms with oval-screw drilling of the Lancaster barrel bore. The author makes some proposals on how to bring the norms of the regulatory and technical regulations in the field of arms and ammunition trafficking in line with the modern concepts of rifled firearms. The mechanism of formation of traces of the barrel bore on the fired bullets is revealed. The author notes that the drilling of the Lancaster barrel bore determines the appearance of traces from its oval-screw profile in the form of two areas of abrasion along the small axis of the oval (traces of rifling lands) and two areas of less intense abrasion along the large axis of the oval (traces of rifling) on the bullets. The traces of the rifling lands and the traces of the rifling are fused with each other, and have a small angle of inclination (about 3° ).The dependence of the display of traces of the barrel bore with the Lancaster drill on the fired bullets on the design of the bullets of the cal cartridges has been established. .366 TCM, 9.6x53 Lancaster. When using cartridges with FMJ shell bullets and SP “KION” semi-shell bullets, the traces of the barrel bore are displayed sufficiently well, which, in general, makes it possible to identify the weapon. Firing cartridges with an all-metal bullet made of zinc alloy “ECO” dramatically reduces the display of traces of the barrel bore on the fired bullets and complicates the firearms identification. The author proposes to ban shooting cartridges with lead bullets with a polymer antifriction shell “DERI” in firearms with a Lancaster channel drill, since when firing, the traces of the barrel bore on the fired bullet are not displayed. This contradicts the legislator’s requirement for civilian models of firearms on mandatory formation of traces suitable for identifying weapons on fired bullets.

Violence and aggression fall under the psychological-moral factors posing a major risk to society. By violence, one understands the use of brute force due to different considerations and purposes, as a usual or occasional behavioural manifestation. In other words, violence is a human action which implies aggression, brutality, constraint, being considered an exteriorisation of the frustrations occurred and escalated as a result of lacks of character and education, on a background of inherent aggressive instincts. The forensic investigation should clarify the circumstances in which the deed was committed and especially if the repercussions expressly provided by law, occurred, starting from the practical reality according to which, in some situations, the human behaviour gets out of the control of reasoning and expresses itself through violence. Considering the specificity of the offences committed with violence, the object of the forensic investigation deals with the appreciation of the immediate consequences and of their degree of danger. Abstract Introduction Lip print of an individual is distinct and could be a useful form of evidence to identify the ethnicity of a terrorist. Objectives The study analyzed the distribution of lip print patterns of two major ethnic groups in Nigeria; Ibo and Hausa, to develop a strategic plan to check the wave of ethnically driven terrorism in Nigeria, carried out by groups such as Boko Haram and Indigeneous People of Biafra (IPOB). Materials and methods The study comprised 800 participants of Ibo and Hausa ethnic groups (400 males and 400 females). The study adopted a digital method of lip print analysis and followed the guidelines outlined by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) for anthropometric measurements. The lip was classified, using Tsuchihashi and Suzuki method of classification. Results The predominant lip print patterns of Ibo were Type I with complete vertical groove and Type III with intersect of groove for male and Type III for female. 37. Reverse case in child sexual abuse.

Child sexual abuse is a public health and medico-legal problem in developed and developing countries. Prompted by rare presentations of cases from this issue that change the course and outcome of events, we present the completed criminal-medico-legislative procedure as a contribution to the dynamics of the investigative process from my own many years of forensic practice. Two preschool teachers of late reproductive age from a home for neglected children reported to the State Attorney's Office a former ward of the home, now an older minor, and an auxiliary employee of the same home, for having sexual relations with a two-year-old girl. But the state attorney also ordered an examination of the reported young man, so the reported case that the teachers "saw" penetrative intercourse was rejected by the expert and the state attorney as an action impossible without injuring the girl at that age. Further investigation proved the continuous sexual abuse by two teachers of the young man since he was 13 years old, i.e. for three years, which he did not report for fear that he would be kicked out of the home. He had sexual relations with each of them several times during those incriminated years. After his statement, other employees of the home were questioned as witnesses who confirmed the suspect boy's claims. He was then released from custody, and the teachers were dismissed from their jobs and accused of years of sexual abuse of minors and abuse of their position and authority as competent persons. Already for some decades lateral flow assays (LFAs) are 'common use' devices in our daily life. Also, for forensic use LFAs are developed, such as for the analysis of illicit drugs and DNA, but also for the detection of explosives and body fluid identification. Despite their advantages, including ease-of-use, LFAs are not yet frequently applied at a crime scene. This review describes (academic) developments of LFAs for forensic applications, focusing on biological and chemical applications, whereby the main advantages and disadvantages of LFAs for the different forensic applications are summarized. Additionally, a critical review is provided, discussing why LFAs are not frequently applied within the forensic field and highlighting the steps that are needed to bring LFAs to the forensic market. [Display omitted] • Impinging droplets of non-Newtonian blood and Newtonian liquid with similar viscosity on diverse wettable surfaces were comparatively investigated. • Coupling effects of liquid fluidity and surface wettability on the impact dynamics were revealed. • Key characteristics of residual stain patterns after blood drying are correlated with the impact conditions. Understanding the underlying hydrodynamics of impinging blood droplets and finding out the physical parameters determining the bloodstain characteristics are of great importance in blood related forensic investigations. In this work, the impact of non-Newtonian blood droplets on solid surfaces ranging from lyophilic to superlyophobic was systematically investigated and compared to that of Newtonian droplets with a similar dynamic shear viscosity. We show that impinging blood droplets behave as low-viscosity Newtonian droplets in the short-time spreading, which is dominated by capillary and inertial forces, but their non-Newtonian viscoelasticity would notably affect the droplet retraction and post-impact oscillation occurring in large timescales. Whereas the strong liquid–solid adhesion and the non-Newtonian elongational viscosity hinder droplet recoiling and thus alter the impact phenomena on lyophobic and superlyophobic surfaces, the shear and elongational viscosities are coupled to result in higher damping coefficients of oscillating blood droplets after deposition, in comparison to that of impinging Newtonian droplets. The size of the dried bloodstain was found to be different from both the maximum spreading radius of the droplet that can reach during impact and the final radius of the deposited droplet after oscillation, and their correlations are highly dependent on the impact velocity and surface wettability. Moreover, the morphologic characteristics of the bloodstains would also be changed by varying either the impact velocity or the surface wettability. We envision that these findings can not only find applications in the bloodstain pattern analysis, but also provide useful information for medical diagnosis based on blood droplet test. Recent reports highlight possible improvements in individual identification using proteomic information from human hair evidence. These reports have stimulated investigation of parameters that affect the utility of proteomic information. Hair protein profiles may be affected by developmental and physiological changes with age of the donor, exposure to different environmental conditions and intrinsic processes, including during storage. First, to explore whether general trends were evident in the population at different ages, hair samples were analyzed from groups of different subjects in their 20's, 40's and 60's. No significant differences were seen as a function of age, but consistent differences were evident between European American and African American hair profiles. Second, samples collected from single individuals at different ages were analyzed. Mostly, these showed few protein expression level differences over periods of 10 years or less, but samples from subjects at 44 and 65 year intervals were distinctly different in profile. The results indicate that use of protein profiling for personal identification, if practical, would be limited to decadal time intervals. Moreover, batch effects were clearly evident in samples processed by different staff. To investigate the contribution of storage (at room temperature) in affecting the outcomes, the same proteomic digests were analyzed for GVPs. In samples stored over 10 years, GVPs were reduced in number in parallel with the yield of identified proteins and unique peptides. However, a very different picture emerged with respect to personal identification. Numbers of GVPs sufficed to distinguish individuals despite the age differences of the samples. As a practical matter, three hair samples per person provided nearly the maximal number obtained from 5 or 6 samples. The random match probability (where the log increased in proportion to the number of GVPs) reached as high as 1 in 108. The data indicate that GVP results are dependent on the single nucleotide polymorphism profile of the donor genome, where environmental/processing factors affect only the yield, and thus are consistent despite the ages of the donors and samples and batchwise effects in processing. This conclusion is critical for application to casework where the samples may be in storage for long periods and used to match samples recently collected.

Introduction. Forensic structural engineering dates back to the late 20th century. Since then its theoretical and methodological fundamentals have been developed, and considerable practical experience has been accumulated. Nowadays, it is one of the most in-demand type of expert investigations performed in the course of judicial proceedings in Russia; therefore, it has boosted a significant inflow of specialists into forensic investigation organizations. At present, their total staffing exceeds ten thousand specialists. However, the professional training of forensic engineering experts is often heavily and rightly criticized by investigators, judges, and parties to judicial proceedings, defending their legitimate interests. The ever growing number of forensic expert investigations, ordered by the courts, and the growing complexity of tasks to be tackled by experts, have pre-determined the need for an effective expert training system, so that the qualification of experts could meet the rising demands of present-day court proceedings. The objective of this study is to develop the basic principles of this system.Materials and methods. This article is based on the assumption that the special features of activities, performed by forensic experts, determine, to a great extent, the essential principles of effective teaching of this discipline, as well as the major problems arising in the course of student training. The authors describe a combination of didactic methods (oral, printed and verbal, illustrative methods, etc.), teaching techniques and tools used to address these problems.Results. A coherent overview of features of a forensic structural engineering investigation (FSEI), including the procedural nature of its performance, the predominantly regulatory character of forensic investigations, as well as the practical value of FSEI findings substantially improve the efficiency of training highly qualified specialists. The statistics indicate that over 99 % of students can successfully complete training programs.Conclusions. A comprehensive, substantive procedural approach to the explanation of educational materials has proven to be effective. This approach is tailored to the specific nature of forensic activities, and it should be fully integrated into the process of training forensic engineering experts.

In the this paper, we intend to analyse certain particularities of the criminal investigation in the case of committing a crime against national security. In order to structure the incident cases, we take into account aspects of the forensic investigation of documents, respectively with regard to traces of fires, explosions and toxic substances. From how the legislator understood to regulate the material element of some of the crimes against national security, some specific types of traces can be deduced, such as the destruction caused by explosions or fires, the attack committed by poison or the attack committed by an act of murder.
