The use of anaerobic digestion for wastewater treatment continues to be increasingly valued due to the need for resource preservation and recovery. Different high-rate anaerobic reactors with biomass retention capacity exist for the treatment of industrial and municipal wastewaters. The anaerobic moving-bed biofilm reactor (AnMBBR) is a newer anaerobic reactor that operates with biofilm growing on mobile inert media. It is simpler in design and operation compared to other high-rate reactors and it can withstand high concentrations of suspended solids. The number of studies on AnMBBRs for wastewater treatment has been increasing; however, until now no systematic evaluation of the scientific literature on this topic exists. This review aims to identify the types of wastewaters treatable using AnMBBRs, the process configurations for best treatment performance, and advantages/disadvantages of AnMBBRs. AnMBBR is suitable for wastewater treatment at high organic loads, as it allows for high volumetric loading rates and short retention times, resulting in a compact system. It can tolerate large variations of organic and hydraulic loads and even starvation periods. This flexibility makes AnMBBR a suitable option for the treatment of industrial wastewaters experiencing seasonal variability in production levels or changes in product lines. Overall, AnMBBR technology is a versatile and effective option for the treatment of various wastewaters, offering high removal efficiencies, stability, and flexibility in operation, even at temperatures lower than the typical mesophilic range used in anaerobic treatment. Its potential for application is expected to continue growing along the need for resource recovery from wastewaters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The majority of the Indonesian population adheres to Islam, and of course, halal food is the most sought-after. Halal labels are increasingly considered important in business due to their positive influence on consumer awareness and the demand for halal products. This study aims to understand how UB Coffee's management interprets the Halal Label as an asset and its implications for business sustainability. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach involving UB Coffee's management as the population. Key managers were selected as the sample using purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that UB Coffee's management views the Halal Label as valuable and a source of pride, supporting UB Coffee's educational function as part of the educational institution UB and interpreting it as a shared value and commitment. However, UB Coffee has not yet recognized the Halal Label as an asset in its accounting system. The Halal Label has the potential to sustain UB Coffee's business due to the increasing trend of a halal lifestyle. The implications of this study highlight the importance of formally recognizing the Halal Label as an asset to strengthen UB Coffee's long-term business strategy.

Background. Excessive consumption of added sugar is an essential contributing factor to weight gain in adolescence, leading to non-communicable diseases. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the added sugar consumption in foods and beverages and determine the association between free sugar consumption and BMI status. Material and Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 280 adolescents in university (18-22 years) recruited from undergraduate students at different schools. The information was acquired using a 24-hour dietary recall questionnaire. Adjusted binary logistic regression analysis was used to assess the associations between added sugar consumption in foods and beverages and nutritional status. Results. Half of the participants had a BMI status in the normal range (51.8%). A large percentage of adolescents had eaten staple food only two times and did not have breakfast (49%). Additionally, most of the student did not eat a snack or drink beverages (57.7%). Consumption of vegetables, fruit, meat, and milk was higher in obese subjects than other groups. The results showed that adolescents consumed more added sugar (79.2%) than is recommended by the WHO. The majority of added sugar consumption were beverages (46.5%). The findings revealed that added sugar consumption among undergraduate students did not differ significantly depending on BMI. Conclusion. This study indicated that added sugar consumption in university students exceeded the WHO recommendation, although there was no discernible difference in BMI status. The results would be useful for further study and may help dietitians provide appropriate nutrition education or campaigns to reduce added sugar consumption in Thai and Southeast Asia university students.

Abstract: Half of all mental health problems diagnosed in adulthood have their onset before or during adolescence, especially common mental disorders (CMD). Thus, it is relevant to study the factors associated with these disorders. This study aimed to investigate the association of school characteristics, consumption of ultra-processed foods, and waist-to-height ratio with the presence of CMD in Brazilian adolescents. This is a school-based, cross-sectional study that analyzed data from 71,553 Brazilian adolescents aged 12-17 years. The prevalence of CMD in these adolescents was 17.1% (cut-off point 5 for the General Health Questionnaire-12). Associations were estimated using multilevel logistic models, with the presence of CMD as the dependent variable. The final model, adjusted for non-modifiable individual variables, modifiable individual variables and family characteristics, identified a positive association between private-funded schools (OR = 1.10; 95%CI: 1.07-1.14), advertisements for ultra-processed foods (OR = 1.13; 95%CI: 1.09-1.17), the second to fourth quartiles of ultra-processed food intake and waist-to-height ratio (OR = 2.26; 95%CI: 2.03-2.52). This study demonstrated that the private-funded schools , the presence of ultra-processed food advertisements, the consumption of ultra-processed food, and an increased waist-to-height ratio are risk factors for CMD in Brazilian adolescents.

Impulse buying is when buyers make unplanned purchases that sometimes leave them satisfied or dissatisfied. The present study surveyed 546 customers who purchased food and beverage brands to understand their buying behaviour in the state of Haryana, India. The study used a well-structured questionnaire, collected data via social media platforms, and drew inferences using frequency and descriptive analysis. The results reveal that most consumers tend to buy impulsively regarding food and beverage products. The findings further reveal that consumers make impulsive purchases based on specific choices, preferences, or attachments to brands without considering the brand’s features or other characteristics. Companies can use these inferences to understand the target market’s purchasing patterns and make informed decisions to boost sales. The study recommends that food and beverage companies adopt strategies to attract impulsive buyers based on demographic features and focus on packaging to attract consumers with different personality traits.

AbstractCovid-19 has caused an economic recession, including uncertainty over the food and beverage sector. One of the layers of business that is vulnerable to pandemic attacks is cafés and restaurants. In early 2020–2022, many café and restaurant businesses have been closed as a series of polemics that have resulted in operational cost losses. At the same time, the government issued regulations related to tightening regional quarantines. Automatically, these rules stimulate a toward in reforming innovation. Based on shifts in consumer behavior since the pandemic, this paper is dedicated to investigating the effects of product delivery innovation (PDI), cashless payments (CP), and social media engagement (SME) on marketing performance (MP). The object of this study is oriented towards 146 cafés and restaurants spread across many major cities in Indonesia. The online survey is centered on café and restaurant management. Systematics and data interpretation via SEM-PLS. The empirical output proves that product delivery innovation and cashless payments have no impact on marketing performance. Uniquely, social media engagement actually has an impact on marketing performance. Besides that, product delivery innovation and cashless payments through social media engagement have an impact on marketing performance. The emergence of COVID-19 in Indonesia shows that social media trends can develop a harmonious relationship between producers and customers. Going forward, the findings of this study have the obsession of promoting a more complex literary lens.

Introduction: there is an emerging current necessity of valid questionnaires, encompassing most of food, beverages, diseases, signs and symptoms currently related to the pathogenesis of adverse reactions to foodstuffs (ARFS) in the Spanish population. Objectives: this study aimed to design and validate two questionnaires to assess ARFS in the Spanish population, Food and Beverages Frequency Consumption Questionnaire to Identify Adverse Reactions to Foodstuffs (FBFC-ARFSQ-18); and Pathologies and Symptomatology Questionnaire associated with Adverse Reactions to Foodstuffs (PSIMP-ARFSQ-10). Methods: both questionnaires were designed adapting questionnaires from the literature; and validated, using the expert judgment method, in five phases: questionnaires development, pilot test and reliability, content validity, face validity, and ethical considerations. Questionnaires were developed using the REDCap™ tool hosted at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. A total of 20 Spanish experts evaluated the questionnaires. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients were calculated using SPSS version 25.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY-USA) and Aiken's V coefficient values were calculated using ICaiken.exe (Visual Basic 6.0, Lima-Perú). Results: a final construct of questions was designed, ensuring no overlap, for FBFC-ARFSQ-18 and PSIMP-ARFSQ-10. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients were 0.93 and 0.94; and Aiken's V coefficient values were 0.90 (0.78-0.96 CI) and 0.93 (0.81-0.98 CI) for FBFC-ARFSQ-18 and PSIMP-ARFSQ-10, respectively. Conclusions: both validated questionnaires could be used to analyze the association between certain food and beverages consumption with ARFS, such as food allergies and food intolerances; also, to investigate the link between some specific diseases, signs and symptoms with ARFS. - Abstract
This study assessed dietary 12 mineral intakes in young Korean adults with a self-selected diet. The study aimed to investigate the intake status of minerals in young adults for balanced nutritional management. As a cross-sectional study, anthropometric measurements and a dietary intake survey using a 24-hour recall method were conducted in 100 adults aged 19-31 years. Then, 12 mineral intakes of the subjects were analysed using mineral content databases. The daily mineral intakes of all subjects were 525.02 mg for Ca, 1041.89 mg for P, 3538.83 mg for Na, 2270.92 mg for K, 204.62 mg for Mg, 12.21 mg for Fe, 6.80 mg for Zn, 726.11 ug for Cu, 4.43 mg for Mn, 147.35 ug for I, 77.93 ug for Se, and 58.23 ug for Mo. Cereals (Fe, Mo), vegetables (K, Mg), meat (P, Zn, Se), and teas·beverages·alcohols (Cu, Mn) were the main food groups of various mineral intakes along with milks and dairy products (Ca) and seaweeds (I). Dietary intake of Ca, K, Mg, and Zn did not meet the recommended nutrient intake (RNI) or adequate intake (AI). In addition, the minerals in which the index of nutrient quality value was less than 1 were Ca at 0.82, K at 0.79, Mg at 0.77, and Zn at 0.88. However, the daily intake of P, Na, and Mo significantly exceeded the RNI or AI. In young Korean adults with a self-selected diet, dietary intakes of some minerals (Ca, K, Mg, and Zn) did not meet the dietary reference intakes, while some (P, Na, and Mo) were met. Therefore, we can suggest that balanced mineral intake is needed along with intake exceeding the mineral reference value. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The inconsistent relationships in the previous research studies related to quality management practices and sustainability have initiated the purpose of this study. Further investigation is prompted to understand better the effects of other intervening variables to explain the nature of the relationship. Therefore, this study investigated the mediating roles of organizational excellence on the relationship between quality management practices (QMP) and sustainability. The QMP considered in this study are human resources management (HRM), service design (SD), information and analysis (IA), benchmarking (BM) and management leadership (ML) with the respective relationship with sustainable performance while being mediated by organizational excellence. A questionnaire survey was administered to 303 companies of Malaysian food and beverage and the returned questionnaires were analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results revealed that organizational excellence is a significant mediator of the relationships between ML, SD, HRM and sustainability. The developed framework from this study can be employed by policy and decision-makers to forecast and provide insights into the economy. Managers in the industry should consider the importance of this model when implementing any practice in the future. For future research, it is recommended that a longitudinal study is carried out to evaluate the impact of TQM and organizational excellence on SP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to determine the factors inhibiting the inclusion of labels on imported food and beverage products that are not labeled in Indonesian. This paper uses empirical legal research and then analyzes it using analytical descriptive techniques. The results of the study show that the inhibiting factor for labeling of imported food or beverage products that are not labeled in Indonesian is the large number of consumer requests for imported food products; Lack of knowledge of business actors; and Lack of government oversight. Provisions for Attaching Labels to Imported Food or Beverage Products Labeled in Indonesian are contained in Article 20 Paragraph (1) PP No. 29 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Trade Sector, especially in CHAPTER III which states that every business actor is required to use or complete an Indonesian language label on goods traded domestically. Article 22 Paragraph (1) states that the use of Indonesian language labels is through the inclusion of labels on goods and/or packaging in the form of embossing or printing; affixed or fully attached; or included or attached to the goods and/or packaging, and in Article 23 Paragraph (1) it is explained that the Indonesian language label as referred to in Article 22 contains information regarding the name of the goods, the origin of the goods, the identity of the business actor, and other information in accordance with the characteristics of the goods, including the existence of Law No. 18 of 2012 concerning Food, states that the inclusion of labels on food packaging is written or printed using Indonesian and contains the name of the product; List of materials used; net weight or net content; The name and address of the party that produces or imports and so on. Therefore, consumers must be smarter and more thorough before buying, by ensuring whether the product has a BPOM distribution permit, buying products according to needs and increasing knowledge, especially paying attention to the complete label in Indonesian. - Abstract
Foods and liquids have properties that are often modified as part of clinical dysphagia management to promote safe and efficient swallowing. However, recent studies have questioned whether this practice is supported by the evidence. To address this, a scoping review was conducted to answer the question: "Can properties of food and liquids modify swallowing physiology and function in adults?" Online search in six databases yielded a set of 4235 non-duplicate articles. Using COVIDENCE software, two independent reviewers screened the articles by title and abstract, and 229 full-text articles were selected for full-text review. One-hundred eleven studies met the inclusion criteria for qualitative synthesis and assessment of risk of bias. Three randomized controlled trials and 108 non-randomized studies were analyzed. Large amounts of variability in instrumental assessment, properties of food and liquids, and swallowing measures were found across studies. Sour, sweet, and salty taste, odor, carbonation, capsaicin, viscosity, hardness, adhesiveness, and cohesiveness were reported to modify the oral and pharyngeal phase of swallowing in both healthy participants and patients with dysphagia. Main swallow measures modified by properties of food and liquids were penetration/aspiration, oral transit time, lingual pressures, submental muscle contraction, oral and pharyngeal residue, hyoid and laryngeal movement, pharyngeal and upper esophageal sphincter pressures, and total swallow duration. The evidence pooled in this review supports the clinical practice of food texture and liquid consistency modification in the management of dysphagia with the caveat that all clinical endeavors must be undertaken with a clear rationale and patient-specific evidence that modifying food or liquid benefits swallow safety and efficiency while maintaining quality of life. Purpose — In light of Malang City's significant Muslim community and increased digital technology adoption during the COVID-19 pandemic, this study explores the impact of digital platforms on micro and small businesses. Method — This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach, combining a literature review with questionnaire-based primary data collection. The gathered data is subsequently analyzed. Result — Utilizing the smart PLS 3 application, we find that two of the three latent variables significantly influence variable Y. Specifically, Perceived Usefulness (represented by X1) and Perceived Ease of Use (represented by X3) have a notable impact on Y. This impact is reflected in the increased total transactions facilitated by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the use of digital economic tools. Contribution — This research introduces a unique perspective by highlighting how digital platforms support the halal industry. The integration of digital innovation requires alignment with the needs and scale of MSMEs. While these innovations offer significant advantages, MSMEs must also address technical challenges, data security concerns, and potential shifts in business practices resulting from the adoption of new technologies.

In the implementation process of circular economy initiatives, many companies face several challenges in adopting the circular economy model in their business entirely. A suitable strategy is needed for a circular economy implementation. One of the ways to build the strategy is by understanding the circular economy implementation drivers and barriers. This work aims to identify the drivers and barriers of a circular economy implementation in Indonesian Food & Beverages (F&B) Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The validation process starts through an extensive literature review and then employs a Modified Kappa method to examine the factors, incorporating experts from industry, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academia, and government. The result shows eight drivers and fifteen barriers for the implementation of a circular economy in Indonesian F&B SMEs. These drivers and barriers are grouped into three dimensions, namely Economy, Social, and Environment. The output of this research might support the stakeholders in facing the issues regarding the feasibility of circular economy practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Supply chain management is of primary importance in industries operating in an archipelago country like Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the effect of cost reduction and inventory optimization on the partnership in purchasing and logistics on purchasing and logistic performance. This study focuses on food and beverage manufacturing companies in Indonesia. This research uses quantitative methods and descriptive research types. The population in this study is managers of manufacturing companies in Indonesia. The questionnaires obtained were 74 respondents, then respondents who came from manufacturing companies were 50 respondents who met the research criteria. This study indicates several findings: cost reduction and inventory optimization affect the partnership in purchasing and logistics but do not affect purchasing and logistics performance. Furthermore, partnership in purchasing and logistics affects purchasing and logistic performance. The results show that the partnership strategy is essential for manufacturing companies, especially food and beverages because cost reduction and inventory optimization need to involve several companies with more resources to increase purchasing and logistic performance.

This study aims to determine the different types of foods and beverages that predominate in the channels of kid youtubers in Spain and the United States, which serve as a model for children's nutritional habits. The study looked at a sample of 18 YouTube channels and 553 videos from a universe of 1551 videos. Four main conclusions have been drawn: there are significant differences depending on the origin of the channels, with a greater presence of oils, fats and meat in Spanish channels, and of cereals, chocolates, sugar and fruit in channels from the United States; in 60% of the videos, brands are being promoted (without appropriate identification), with statistically significant differences according to the country of origin; the main communication objective is a promotional objective, with differences according to country, being more educational/promotional in the United States and more focused on entertainment/promotion in Spain; and in 16% of cases, the children showed excessive or compulsive consumption--the videos do not appear to promote, in general, healthy nutritional habits. ENTREPRENEURSHIP ,SMALL business ,INNOVATIONS in business ,FOOD industry - Abstract
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is one important part of the economy of a country or region. This important role has encouraged many countries, including Indonesia, to continue working to develop SMEs. This is because MSMEs have contributed more than half of Indonesia's GDP, and MSMEs and the largest employer absorber for Indonesia. MSMEs also have a business unit of 99.9% of the total business units compared to large enterprises. Therefore, why MSMEs have become the backbone of the Indonesian economy, especially in the Food and Beverage industry sector, see the contribution of the food and beverage industry to the total GDP of Indonesia. However, SMEs today are still often getting problems and obstacles in the Indonesian industry. One of them is the lack of knowledge about entrepreneurship that hampers the development of a business and the emergence of innovation. The purpose of this study is to determine the variables that affect innovation to improve the competitiveness of SMEs. This study uses the application of the method of Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The type of research used is descriptive research with a time horizon used is crosssectional for once data collection in micro industries that are part of MSMEs. The results of this study are expected to show what variables can be related to and influence entrepreneurship and trigger the innovation of Indonesian SMEs, whose audiences become the driving force of the national economy. - Abstract
Food advertising may influence food preferences and consumption. Due to these advertisements' role in health, the present study has updated the data available on television and radio food advertisements in Iran until 2020. Meanwhile, food advertisements on billboards have been analyzed for the first time. All programs broadcast on two TV and radio channels were downloaded and saved 24 h daily for one week (November 10-16th, 2020). Also, on November 15th billboards located on the busy highways of Tehran were photographed. Validated protocols analyzed the advertisements. A total of 6026 advertisements were analyzed, including 4287 on TV, 1545 on radio, and 194 on billboards. The total duration of TV and radio advertising was 48.6 h. Food products were the most displayed advertisements on TV, radio, and billboards (33.6%). Overall, "condiments" and "desserts" were the most frequently advertised food products among all the studied media (20% and 17%, respectively). The most common advertising appeal included "High quality" on TV and billboards and "Stimulation of profiteering and profit-seeking" on the radio. Advertising violation based on Iran's regulations, Nutrient profile model for the marketing of food and non-alcoholic beverages to children in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, and International Network for Food and Obesity / Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) Research Monitoring and Action Support (INFORMAS) was reported to be 13%, 74%, and 51%, respectively. Food products ranked the highest among all the advertisements. A clear violation of domestic and international advertising regulations was observed which given the high share of food advertising in the studied media, could endanger public health. This study supports the need for stricter regulations and adherence to international standards to improve nutritional status., Competing Interests: Declaration of Conflicting InterestsThe author(s) declared no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.

The sale of ultra-processed products has increased in Latin America in recent years, as well as the prevalence of overweight and obesity. In Peru, Law No. 30021 passed in an attempt to reduce overweight and obesity in children and adolescents; however, the development of this law was characterized by constant modifications to the documents prepared in this regard. This article aims to identify essential modifications in the documents elaborated by the Government and the Congress within the timeframe of Law No. 30021, particularly those regarding the regulation of food and non-alcoholic beverage advertising, advertising warnings and technical parameters of critical nutrients. The lack of timely scientific evidence, the opposition by the food industry and the lack of political consensus were the main reasons for the detected modifications, which shows the dynamism during the development of this policy. A good human resources management practice will produce quality and quantity output for sustainable business. The employee recruitment process is a crucial initial stage to fulfil the needs of a quality employee. In this process, a company usually opens an advertisement for a job vacancy and selects based on job qualification requirements. This research contributes to determining job specification standards in a café or coffee shop based on Big Data analysis. Analysis has been done by Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is implemented to select the type of works and work qualifications available in the food and beverages sector. Questionnaires and interviews have been conducted to collect primary data, and three leading websites of job seeker online platforms (Jobstreet.com, Gawean.id, and Lokerindonesia.com) are used as references in data collection. Finding gives information regarding four types of works in a cafe: manager, barista, chef, and waiter; eleven points for manager specifications, twelve points for barista specifications, eleven points for chef specifications, and fifteenth points for barista waiter specifications.

The growing competition within manufacturing practices has motivated organizations to upgrade their conventional production system to a smart, sophisticated systems. This study evaluates the impact of lean manufacturing practices (LMP) and industrial revolution 4.0 technologies on sustainability in the food and beverages industry. Past literature has revealed that lean practices significantly affect sustainable performance. However, the integrated effects of lean manufacturing practices and IR 4.0 technologies on sustainable performance have not been examined empirically. In order to fill the void of this gap, this study intends to have a preliminary investigation of the combined effects of LMP and IR 4.0 technologies on sustainable performance, specifically in the food and beverages industry. Furthermore, the study aims to confirm the future direction of the food industry that is recently employing new technologies in its manufacturing systems. This study is underpinned by the theories of contingency and practice-based view by highlighting the contributions of operations management practices to implement successful strategies in enhancing sustainability performance in food and beverages companies through performance variations. This study extends the current literature on IR 4.0 technologies and lean manufacturing practices as enablers of economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Also, the study provides implications and future direction for industry consultants, practitioners, and academicians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To study the relationship between consumption of milk and milk products, calcium, lactose and vitamin D and occurrence of colorectal cancers. Design: Prospective cohort study. Subjects: A total of 9959 men and women aged 15 y or older without history of cancer at baseline. During a 24 y follow-up, 72 new cancers of the large bowel (38 in the colon and 34 in the rectum) were detected. Results: Consumption of milk and total milk products was suggested to be inversely related to colon cancer incidence, whereas no similar association was seen for rectal cancer. The relative risk between the highest and lowest quartiles of intake adjusted for potential confounding factors was 0.46 (95% confidence interval 0.14–1.46, P for trend 0.09) for milk and 0.37 (95% CI=0.12–1.39, P for trend 0.06) for total milk products. Lactose intake showed a similar inverse relationship with colon cancer: the relative risk was 0.31 (95% CI=0.08–1.15, P for trend 0.03). Intake of vitamin D or total dietary calcium was not significantly related to colorectal cancer risk, whereas calcium provided by fermented milk products was associated with increased colorectal cancer incidence; in the highest quartile the multivariate adjusted relative risk for colorectal cancer was 2.07 (95% CI=1.00–4.28). Conclusions: Our results indicate that individuals showing high consumption of milk have a potentially reduced risk of colon cancer; however, the association does not appear to be due to intake of calcium, vitamin D, or to specific effects of fermented milk. Background/Aim. Dental caries represents a health problem of all ages, but it is especially significant in the earliest age of children. Early childhood caries can develop immediately after the eruption of deciduous teeth, resulting in many complications, such as tooth extraction, which is reflected in the quality of life and health. Early childhood caries is influenced by a large number of predictors. Considering that the data on predictors for the development of deciduous teeth caries are scarce, the aim of this paper was to determine the prevalence of deciduous teeth caries and detect the predictors for the development of early childhood caries. Methods. Our survey included 117 children of both genders, aged 3 to 6 years, from the territory of Kosovska Mitrovica and Zvečan. All respondents, including children and parents, were surveyed, and thus general data was obtained. A dental examination was performed on all children. The current state of dental health was inserted into special research cards that were in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Those predictors of dental health level that were statistically significant in models of univariate ordinal logistic regression at the significance level of 0.05 were included in the model of multivariate ordinal logistic regression. Results. According to the full structure, there were 49.6% of boys and 50.4% of girls. Healthy teeth were present in 25 (21.4%) children, 19 had reversible changes (16.2%), while 73 (62.4%) children had irreversible carious changes on teeth. The most important detected predictors were sweets consummation, sleeping with a baby bottle, 6 and more meals per day, frequent usage of medical syrups, child’s daily tooth-brushing frequency, child’s independent toothbrushing frequency, usage of non-fluoride toothpaste, a lack of professional fluoride application, and mouth breathing. Conclusion. This research contributed to the detection of a large number of predictors that are most important for the development of early childhood caries. In order to reduce the risk of caries development, it is necessary to act in more spheres. This certainly requires planning and implementing preventive dental programs.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To identify the sponsorship by food and beverage companies of the teams participating in the 2019 Copa América Soccer Cup and associate this sponsorship with characteristics of the teams and their respective countries. METHODS The sponsors of the 10 teams participating in the 46th edition of the Copa América were identified. These entities were classified into (i) food companies, (ii) alcoholic beverage companies, and (iii) other segments. The food companies were classified according to their products, according to the NOVA classification. In addition, data on the number of titles previously won by the teams in the Copa America and the World Cup were obtained, as well as data on the countries’ Human Development Index, annual per capita sales of ultra-processed foods, and annual per capita consumption of alcoholic beverages. RESULTS A total of 89 sponsorships were identified for the 10 teams studied, some of these supporting two or more teams. Eighteen percent of the sponsors were food companies, with 12.4% being ultra-processed foods. The alcoholic beverage category represented 7.9% of the sponsors. Ultra-processed beverage and alcoholic beverage companies sponsored seven of the 10 teams studied. We noted higher participation of ultra-processed foods company sponsors in teams from countries with higher Human Development Index, sales of ultra-processed foods, and number of Copa América and World Cup titles. The sponsorship by alcoholic beverage companies was higher for teams from countries with lower Human Development Index, alcohol consumption, and number of Copa América and World Cup titles. CONCLUSION A significant presence of ultra-processed food and alcoholic beverage companies as sponsors of South American soccer teams was noted, along with the fact that sport performance characteristics of the teams and socioeconomic and market issues of the countries are associated with the occurrence of sponsorship.

Auxin regulates many aspects of plant development and behavior, including the initiation of new outgrowth, patterning of vascular systems, control of branching, and responses to the environment. Computational models have complemented experimental studies of these processes. We review these models from two perspectives. First, we consider cellular and tissue-level models of interaction between auxin and its transporters in shoots. These models form a coherent body of results exploring different hypotheses pertinent to the patterning of new outgrowth and vascular strands. Second, we consider models operating at the level of plant organs and entire plants. We highlight techniques used to reduce the complexity of these models, which provide a path to capturing the essence of studied phenomena while running simulations efficiently.
