Context: This study assessed the trends and transition times in parity progression among women of reproductive age in Nigeria between 1998 and 2012. Data Source & Method: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study which utilized data from the 2003, 2008 and 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey. Data were analysed using Descriptive statistics. Brass P/F Ratio, Pandey and Suchrinder Parity Progression Method and Feeney and Yu Method of Period parity Progression. Findings: Our Findings show that the proportion of women progressing to next parity was fairly equal for periods 1998-2002 and 2003-2007 with a slight decrease for period 2008-2012. There was a relatively consistent reduction in the speed of progression to high order parities from 1998 - 2012. Conclusion: In conclusion, not much progress has been made with respect to fertility reduction in the country. However, a reduction in the pace of progression to high order parities suggests Nigeria is experiencing a consistent but slow total fertility decline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Punjab is not only the most fertile province of Pakistan but also the most fertile demographically with 3.4 total fertility rate. The fertility rate is an important demographic phenomenon that has significant implications for sustainable development, particularly in agricultural regions such as Punjab, Pakistan. In recent years, scholars and policymakers have increasingly focused on the link between fertility rate and soil fertility. As soil fertility is an important determinant of agricultural productivity and food security. This research article has explored the relationship and impact of the main climatic factors like maximum and minimum temperature, precipitation and Gross Primary Productivity on total fertility rate of districts of Punjab, for the year 2021. Geospatial Structural modeling (GSSM) has been designed to estimate the influence of climatic factors directly on fertility and its indirect influence on fertility through gross primary productivity and child mortality rate on otal fertility rate of districts of Punjab. All the said geospatial primary and secondary datasets are analyzed in ArcGIS environment and resultant map are generated. The results shows that there is the direct and significant impact of gross primary productivity and child mortality rate on the total fertility rate. While there is indirect impact of mean annual precipitation, mean annual maximum and minimum temperature on the total fertility rate. This paper presents the results of statistical estimation impact of demographic and medico-biological factors on Ukraine’s fertility trends. The Bongaarts fertility multiplicative model makes it possible to assess the role of each determinant in the formation of the total fertility rate in Ukraine.

At below replacement level, fertility changes are subtle and complex; and distinguishing statistically significant trends from random shifts is becoming a relevant issue. The probabilistic fertility table describes the uncertainty of the childbearing process, and provides a significance test for the annual changes of various fertility measures, which is essential for distinguishing between a statistically significant change from a random fluctuation. This paper provides an analytical model for the total fertility of the probabilistic fertility table, and extends the significance test to period trends that include multiple annual changes. The extended significance test indicates that complex annual changes could accumulate to become a significant trend. Applying the analytical model and extended test to the total fertility of Canada, it indicates that the 2000-11 upward trend is statistically significant and, therefore, supports recently projected future increases of total fertility. An analysis of data mainly from China's 1990 and 2000 censuses and 2005 mini-census shows how fertility decline between 1975 and 2005 in the province of Guangdong has been influenced by both fertility policy and economic and social development. Guangdong's development since 1975 has been very rapid and has attracted huge numbers of migrants from other provinces. The analysis of the province's fertility trend from 1975 shows clearly the influence of fertility policy on the trend. The analysis also shows that economic development has brought about large changes in population composition by urban/rural residence, education, occupation, and migration status, which, together with large fertility differentials by these characteristics, have contributed substantially to Guangdong's fertility decline, in large part through changes in proportions currently married. The article discusses the changes in the fertility rate in Kenya. The recently published 1989 Kenya Demographic Health Survey (KDHS) constitutes the strongest evidence, but there are numerous other studies, both quantitative and qualitative, which point to declining fertility rates in Kenya. The evidence also suggests that this decline is due to rapidly changing attitudes about family size and increasing contraceptive usage. The KDHS 1989 report suggests that if young women continue to have children at current rates, they will have an average of 6.7 births in their lifetime. The total fertility has declined to 7.7 from 8.1, as was found by the surveys conducted in 1984 and 1975-77. A major cause of the decline in fertility is increased use of family planning, which has increased from 7% in 1975-77 to 17% in 1984. Now it has been increased to 27%. Modern methods of contraception account for two-thirds of all prevalence. The trend between 1962 and 1989 indicates that fertility rose, leveled off, and then fell after 1980. The article also describes several other studies including Chogoria Mission study, and Kenya voluntary sterilization programme. The contraceptive prevalence is rising in Kenya, and fertility is falling. Both trends are solidly based on major attitudinal changes by both men and women during the last 20 years. The increasing effectiveness of the family planning programme seems also to have played a major role in facilitating changed behaviour to match the changed attitudes.

Fertility exposure analysis was developed recently by Hobcraft and Little in order to evaluate the relative importance of the various proximate determinants upon levels of current fertility. In the present paper we extend the analysis to the study of changes in fertility between two cross-sectional surveys. We show how to express fertility change as a product of terms which represent changes in the proximate determinants. The model of change is adapted to a log-linear framework, in which the proximate determinants on the one hand, and socio-economic variables such as education, on the other, are considered together. A few simplifications of the method are also suggested so that fewer demands are made on data. The model and its possible interpretations are illustrated with pairs of surveys from Pakistan and Mexico.
