What does feminist theory have to offer sociology? Defining feminist theory as work that problematizes the gender binary and the relations of domination that constitute and emerge from it, we explore four key aspects of feminist scholarship. We begin with work that explores gender as a structuring trope. We then turn to how gender is coconstituted with other structures of power and domination. Next, we survey how feminists have theorized the relationship between nature and the social through the body. Finally, we examine feminist epistemological claims. We conclude by demonstrating the inextricability of feminist conceptual work and feminist politics. As we move across these bodies of work, we show how they are linked with one another and suggest some of the ways in which thinking like a feminist would help sociologists better grasp the dynamics of the social worlds we study.

Care is a practice and form of labour making human survival and flourishing possible. This Symposium explores the place and work of care within housing movements, asking how care operates as a politics, an ethics, and a set of practices through which tenants survive—and ultimately seek to transform—the structural violence of capitalist housing systems. Situated in US cities with abiding associations with Blackness and indigeneity, papers in the Symposium examine housing movements that take care as the starting point. As we discuss in this introduction to the Symposium, in such movements, care operates as connective tissue across households and modes of difference; challenges relations of racial capitalism and settler colonialism that underlie dominant understandings of who deserves and can demand care; and drives calls for public care and experiments with non-propertised forms of ownership. Housing systems are care infrastructures, making housing movements a vital place for care work.

Drawing substantially on epistemologies developed in the context of vulnerable populations and responding to calls for greater epistemic justice in marketing research, an intersectional framework involving positionality, partiality, reflexivity, and situated knowledges is proposed to reflect on undertaking market research with Muslim minority populations in non-Muslim majority countries. This population is often highly vulnerable due to stigmatisation, Islamophobia and processes of othering that affect Muslim consumer behaviour, practices and identity. The framework is derived from reflexive experiences of market research undertaken by the authors on and with Islamic consumers both on an individual and collective basis and from relevant literature. The framework highlights the relational nature of the research experience and the situatedness and positionality of both the researcher and researched. In the case of research with Muslim populations we also draw out the significance of religious identity, ideology and religiosity; intersectionalities, including gender; and religious and cultural power as framed by cultural and institutional practices and which affect notions of class and attitudes to the other. We propose an approach that helps overcome Muslim/non-Muslim binaries that flatten the lived notions of the Muslim experience and consumption practices and instead provide for a richer and more representative account of Muslim identity. Violence against girls in schools is an ongoing problem, even in early childhood education settings like kindergarten. Dominant views of children and play as neutral and innocent have operated to silence the early normalization of violence against girls. In this paper, I examine some of the ways that violence against girls occurs in kindergarten play spaces. I draw on feminist standpoint as a theoretical framework to interrogate play-based learning from the vantage point of girls and illuminate its hidden gendered effects. Analysis of ethnographic data collected in two Canadian kindergarten classrooms revealed that a common form of violence boys enacted against girls involved the destruction of girls' building work in play. While girls resisted boys' domination, the daily destruction of their work in play limited girls' abilities to equally access kindergarten education. The findings presented in this paper call for a re-thinking of play-based learning in kindergarten and specifically for a theoretical shift in early education curricula, policies, and teacher education and development programmes. The global rise in plastic surgery reflects increasing pressure on individuals to conform to prevailing beauty standards. South Korea, recognised as the world leader in plastic surgery procedures, exemplifies the popularity and normalisation of these practices within its society. Physical appearance holds significant cultural importance in South Korea, particularly for women, who face the strictest beauty norms. This article explores the construction of Western beauty standards and their integration into South Korean culture. Utilising the Feminist Theory of International Relations through a decolonial lens, this study examines how these beauty norms shape and restrict women's self-image within a patriarchal society. Additionally, it critiques the global beauty standard, rooted predominantly in European features, as an idealised archetype that influences identity formation and impacts women--particularly those who do not align with Western aesthetics. The study highlights how Western beauty standards intensify societal pressures on South Korean women, leading to a heightened propensity for plastic surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the intricate social and revolutionary dynamics within the Palestinian liberation movement through the lens of queer and decolonial feminist theory. By examining the visual and relational aspects of Cold War-era images of Palestinian fida’iyin, the article argues that these images are imbued with radical libidinal social relations that source the possibilities for revolutionary change and liberation. The analysis introduces how these images resist dominant, heteronormative and masculinist narratives imposed by imperialist and patriarchal forces, instead revealing deep intimacies and affective bonds among revolutionaries. The article also engages with broader discussions on the role of gender, sexuality, and the erotic in shaping revolutionary consciousness, asserting that these elements are crucial to understanding the historical and ongoing struggles for Palestinian liberation. This ethnographic study analyzes the barriers women encounter in achieving their goals at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Employing a discursive approach, the study seeks to identify symbols promulgated by various policy actions that legitimize or delegitimize specific gender relations. It draws from feminist theories and Lisa Rosen's symbolic policy framework to examine the chasms between policy actions and their implicit meanings, situated within the larger sociocultural context. The findings of this study suggest that the campus culture empowers female students by providing opportunities for them to shape their beliefs and also to question internalized 'common knowledge' mediated by their families and culture. However, women's occupations remain centered on the domestic reality. As women aspire to occupy greater positions of power, they are constrained by normative gender roles. Rituals of policy create mystifications about these constraints which, in turn, allow men to wield power and attribute their success to individual merit rather than systemic processes that reinforce structural gender inequities. This study advocates a shift away from the instrumentalization of policies and integrating caste, gender, and class diversity into institutional policies. Feminist theory is core to posthumanist HCI and can support more-than-human designers and researchers in questioning what human is being decentered and what marginalized voices are foregrounded. In this article, I interweave feminist and posthumanist design scholarship that affirms natureculture relations through the practice and concept of fabulation. I present a research-through-design practice of producing a short film "I Moss You" that is recorded through a microscope and tells a story about mosses and menses, space travel and earthly survival. I contribute by positioning fabulation as a feminist posthumanist design approach that challenges dominant sociotechnical imaginaries of progress, involves non-humans in speculative storytelling and fosters joy in taking care of and enlivening relations with earth. I discuss how fabulation aligns with feminist values in HCI and design, including critiquing power hierarchies and dominant norms of technology, emphasizing situated knowledges in design practice, and attuning to relational becoming with ecology. This article contributes to the rethinking of the relationship between news media and democracy by adopting the perspective of 'epistemic democracy', characterised by universal and equal participation of all knowers. While this perspective foregrounds the tension between the normative vision of news media as facilitators of democratic deliberation and their actual socio-political position as part of the hegemonic domain, it also enables the reconceptualisation of media's democratic role as the cultivation of 'democratic imagination'. On the one hand, media can exercise democratic imagination in their reporting by promoting epistemic diversity. On the other hand, they may extend the public's horizon of democratic imagination by generating epistemic friction. The article operationalises this process as countering epistemic exclusion of minoritised knowers and employs the three-tier framework borrowed from feminist philosophy as its main heuristic. Empirically, the investigation focuses on the Polish liberal news media's coverage of minoritised activism. This is a particularly relevant case due to the liberal media's stake in reimagining democracy in Poland. The article finds that the Polish liberal media were ready to include minoritised perspectives and relay minoritised experiential knowledge, though they were unable to offer them an equal platform. In this paper I analyze 30 years of research on patriarchy in top management and organization studies (MOS) journals, and I map out an agenda for (re)igniting patriarchy as both a topic of study and lens for viewing key MOS issues in a new light. I organize my review (175 articles) around three themes: intersections, subjects, and contexts. By intersections I refer to the nuanced ways that scholars define patriarchy, adopting interdisciplinary and intersectional perspectives to understand the diversity of women's experiences under patriarchal domination. By subjects I refer to the primary focus on women's experiences, and on the ways that women's subjectivities are socially constituted and negotiated within patriarchal discourses of work and organizational life. By contexts I refer to the sites where MOS research has investigated patriarchy, as well as the ways this research has framed patriarchy itself as a context. Based on this thematic review, I outline a future research agenda to further refine the concept in MOS in three key ways. I call for increased research approaches that center the structural/political forces of patriarchy and gender, increased focus on the experiences of men as agents and subjects of patriarchal domination, and increased attention on patriarchy in Western contexts to redress the overrepresentation of research on patriarchy in the Global South. I conclude that patriarchy is an important line of inquiry for MOS, and that further attention to the concept would enable MOS research to contribute more fully to contemporary debates on gender. While in the last decade gender research has shown great interest in problems around work–life balance for women and the implications for their career mobility, the links between these and women's health and wellbeing have not been fully examined. This article reviews international research undertaken between 1980 and 2020 on the early career period of female doctorate holders. The focus is on the early career mobility (career progression as well as international, disciplinary, and sectorial mobility) of women with doctorates and the connections between their mobility and their physical and mental health and wellbeing. Guided by feminist theories on recurrent institutionalized and legitimized gender inequalities, our review identifies the establishment of inequity during the early career period for female doctoral graduates inside and outside academia and associates this with imbalances in mobility patterns, which are directly connected with their personal lives. The evidence found also suggests that women's health and wellbeing is mostly negatively impacted by these circumstances which may be contributing to women leaving academia or employment. Anchored in feminist theory, this article examines the relationship between mothers and their sons serving in Israel Defense Forces. A review of the feminist literature reveals that the military is one of the main sources of gender inequality and reproduction of traditional gender roles. The military plays a pivotal role in male socialization and encourages soldiers to distance themselves both physically and psychologically from their mothers and deny any feminine traits that may be attributed to them. Yet this qualitative study, which is based on 28 interviews with mothers and sons, reveals a more complex picture. Although the military does serve as a gatekeeper that distances mothers and reinforces hypermasculinized culture, the participants depict the mothers' active involvement in the daily life of their soldier sons without any sense of inferiority in confronting the military apparatus. The mothers assume the role of psychologists, save the sons from entanglement with their direct commanders, and even organize their sons' service route. The extension of maternal practices into the military realm blurs the binary conceptualization of "men in arms and women at home" and sheds more light on contemporary changes that have taken place in military–family relations in Israel. ABSTRACT Research on dual‐career families explores different aspects that influence the work–family relationship for couples who aim to develop their careers while having a family life. However, this literature fails in recognizing the contributions of feminism to question and rethink the role of women in the dual‐career relationship. Therefore, the objective of this study is to reflect upon the dual‐career family from the perspective of several aspects of feminism and its influences on the couple's career paths. To this effect, various elements that appear in the literature on dual‐career families were discussed and problematized from a feminist perspective: the role of organizations, the sexual division of labor, the meanings of career, as well as women who are invisible in these studies. As a theoretical contribution this essay provides the approximation of the dual‐career family studies with feminist theories, enabling a redefinition of the concept and renewal of research on this topic. Studies on women’s political marginalisation in Nigeria dominate the academic literature. However, limited research has interrogated the impediments to the underrepresentation of Kogi State women in elective positions following Nigeria’s 2023 elections. This study examined the role of socioeconomic factors, the nature of politics and perceived patriarchal considerations in the poor representation of Kogi State women in government. This study adopted the liberal feminist theory, used a descriptive survey, and the sample consisted of 361 respondents in Anyigba with deep and diverse knowledge and experience of gender politics in Kogi State. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, and analyses involved descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation and t-test. Study results from the 326 completed questionnaires showed that the majority of the respondents implicated socioeconomic issues (19.052), the nature of politics (17.221) and societal patriarchal attitudes (19.051) in the underrepresentation of Kogi State women in government after the elections. The empirical evidence in this study highlighted the obstacles to women’s political representation. This study concluded that improving women’s employment and educational opportunities and strong political commitment from the leadership towards implementing political quotas for women and internal democracy is crucial to increasing the representation of Kogi State women in government [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article studies film and telefilm adaptations of works by Emilia Pardo Bazán, highlighting gender inequalities. Though a key figure in discourses of gender, she is underrepresented in cinema. The few times her fiction has been adapted, her perspective as a woman writer has been disregarded. La sirena negra (1947) by Carlos Serrano de Osma, based on her 1908 novel, and the four-part miniseries by Gonzalo Suárez (1985), based on Los pazos de Ulloa (1886) and La madre naturaleza (1887), are examined as case studies alongside adaptations of other writers for comparison. Given the various shortcomings of classical phenomenological methods identified by critical and liberatory theorists, this paper considers what phenomenology has to offer theorists of multiply marginalized experience. The paper begins with an account of the major reasons for which Latinx feminists such as Linda Martín Alcoff, Jacqueline Martinez, and Mariana Ortega have found a phenomenological approach useful in their projects. This account reveals that though Latinx feminist phenomenologists have found useful resources for theorizing multiply marginalized theory and identity in the classical texts of phenomenology, experiences unique to those subjected to marginalization remain significantly underdeveloped or absent from classical accounts. Taking seriously the primacy of lived experiences of 'rupture', this paper argues, is therefore necessary in the development of a phenomenological approach that does justice to life in the borderlands and the lived experience of being-between-worlds. Informed by the work of Latinx feminist theorists such as Gloria Anzaldúa and María Lugones, this paper closes with a proposed critical feminist phenomenological approach that centers the moment of 'rupture' described in such work. Ultimately, this paper argues that the communication and documentation of these ruptures in the form of phenomenological description allows for the examination and interrogation of sedimented logics of oppression on the way to liberatory ends. Feminist theories have broadly delved into the discourse surrounding bodies (Grosz, Elizabeth. 1994. Volatile Bodies: Toward a Corporeal Feminism. Bloomington: Indiana University Press). Their contributions have subverted the idea that bodies are merely passive matter, opening up new ways of conceptualizing the world in corporeal terms. Their insights have been useful in understanding that human bodies emerge in situated-historical encounters, and cannot be separated from mind. This holds significant implications for the field of education (hooks, bell. 1994. Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom. Abingdon: Routledge). In this article, we depart from the project 'TRAY-AP: Learning trajectories of undergraduate students: conceptions, strategies, technologies, and contexts'. Reading from 'posts' perspectives such as feminist new materialisms, the affective turn or posthumanisms, helps us to think through relational ontologies, beyond dualisms, embracing a commitment to the human and morethan-human bodies. Through these perspectives, the project helps us to deepen into how Spanish higher education students conceive their bodies and the role of bodies in their learning trajectories. The paper concludes by shedding light on how bodies are still considered inert beings, but students see their learning processes as corporeal and embodied, intersected by gender struggles. This paper critically analyses the motion picture Barbie (2023) within the context of gender discourse and consumer culture, exploring its dual role as a feminist artefact and a commodity. Drawing on seminal feminist theories, including Betty Friedan's critique of domesticity and Naomi Wolf's exploration of beauty as a social construct, alongside other scholarly works, including Robin Gerber's historical account of Barbie's creation, J. Lenore Wright's exploration of body archetypes, Mary F. Rogers' critique of Barbie culture, Juliette Peers' fashion doll evolution, and Kim Toffoletti's posthuman feminist perspective, the study interrogates the film's portrayal of feminist ideals against its commercial backdrop. By examining Barbie's impact on gender identity, societal norms, and consumer behaviour, the paper contributes to the nuanced debate on the interplay between feminist representation and media commodification, offering insights into the complexities of engaging with feminist themes in a consumer-driven landscape. This paper examines comparatively the potential feminist work done by two recent films, Promising Young Woman (2020) and Barbie (2023). By employing the concepts of (male) entitlement and patriarchy, we argue that pushing the concept of patriarchy to the center of a discourse propagated by means of commercial success can have the effect of strengthening rather than undermining it. In this article, I have focused on a particular sampling of contemporary TV series with a common theme in which I point out the overoptimistic and oversimplified representation of one of the most critical challenges facing the modern Arab woman, which is divorce. I closely analyze the plots presented in these series, referring to the feminist social science literature developed by the feminist sociologists Valentine Moghadam and Deniz Kandiyoti, in relation to the concept of neo-patriarchy. This notion points to the coexistence of laws that encourage the academic and professional achievements of Arab women but fail to grant them adequate rights in relation to the family issues which include divorce, children's guardianship, and mixed marriage. Drawing on the framework of neo-patriarchy, I point out that these television shows attempt to destigmatize divorce by portraying that divorced women can have an extremely fulfilling life, disregarding the reality of the daily struggles and stigma many women face as a result of the unjust family laws. This study performs qualitative textual analysis on a sample of TV series that unrealistically deal with the theme of divorce, and thus fall into the category of entertainment media that foster the system of neo-patriarchy. Incorporating sex into biomedical research is envisioned as key to addressing inequalities in health. However, feminist research suggests that it is a complicated task. This is, we argue, especially the case with research that seeks to mobilise sex across different scales involving bodies, samples and populations to provide a basis for personalised biomedical prevention and treatment. Through case studies from stem cell research, cancer medicine and vaccine safety research, we analyse how sex is enacted, foregrounded and sidelined at different stages of research. We argue that sex becomes suspended between individual bodies, samples and population groups, and that this postpones biomedical analysis of sex differences in health. Yet, research on sex differences in complex embodied processes, such as drug metabolism or immunity, appears as a future potentiality. This potentiality shapes research practices that may open biomedicine towards multi-disciplinary study settings that bring together physiological and social dimensions of bodily difference. What do we mean when we talk about epigenetic harm? This paper presents a multidimensional view of epigenetic harm. It is a plea to take a step back from discussions of epigenetic responsibility distributions prevalent in ELSA literature on epigenetics. Instead, it urges researchers to take a closer look at the normative role played by the concept of epigenetic harm. It starts out by showing that the ways in which the object of epigenetic responsibility has already been conceptualized are all related to 'epigenetic harm': something negative that happens in which epigenetic mechanisms play a role, or rather something that needs to be avoided. Epigenetic harm is then characterized as a bridging concept between relatively neutral findings on epigenetics on the one side, and potential ethical and societal implications of those findings, primarily in terms of responsibility ascriptions and distributions, on the other. The paper proposes that a sufficiently nuanced account of epigenetic harm should include at least three dimensions. The dimension of causation alone leads to an overly narrow understanding of harm, and a wrong understanding of this dimension might prompt researchers to support an excessively simplistic epigenetic determinism. It is argued that a multidimensional analysis of epigenetic harm is less vulnerable to this threat and more reflective of the various kinds of harm that may be experienced by the subjects of epigenetic alterations. The paper applies insights from disability studies and feminist philosophy to draw attention to two other dimensions of epigenetic harm, namely lived experiences and relationality. The paper concludes by exploring what a shift towards a multidimensional approach to epigenetic harm might mean for epigenetic research and responsibility ascriptions by formulating some concrete implications. Women rugby players are participating in the sport at the highest levels to date. However, despite this increase in participation, sports sciences and sports medicine/sports physiotherapy (SEMS) research output has not mirrored this increase. Females have hormonally mediated anatomical and physiological profiles, which may have implications for rugby performance, injury risk and rehabilitation outcomes. However, hormonal fluctuations and the physiological differences between the sexes are not the only contributors to sex‐related differences in the rugby experience. Rugby is a highly gendered environment, which operates within a hegemonic masculine norm and marginalises female and women athletes. Further, while women players in general are underrepresented in sports sciences and SEMS research, women rugby players and experts from ethnic minorities and the Global South are near invisible in the literature as they are marginalised on multiple fronts. Sports sciences and SEMS research should take an intersectional lens to investigate the joint relationship between the various sources of inequity in rugby. Intersectional research in women rugby players would encourage the conceptualisation and analysis of the complex social inequalities that the most marginalised women players and those who simultaneously negotiate multiple identities experience. Such data can better inform federation‐level interventions and policy changes to address the needs of historically marginalised player populations as our research portfolio will be more representative of the world's rugby population. Highlights: Women's rugby participation has increased globally. However, despite this increase in female participation, sports sciences and sports and exercise medicine/sports physiotherapy research output has not mirrored this increase in participation.The physiological differences between males and females are not the only contributors to sex‐related differences in injury risk, performance or rehabilitation outcomes. In this article I develop the conceptualisation of affective recognition as a means of deepening understandings of education's contribution to peacebuilding and social justice in conflict-affected contexts. Scholars have highlighted that one of the crises in peacebuilding education today is the failure to understand and harness the role of the transrational and the affective. I therefore bring together feminist theories of social justice and affective economies to analyse non-formal education programmes with young people in Cambodia and Kosovo and develop the concept of affective recognition. When solving a complex problem in a group, should group members always choose the best available solution that they are aware of? In this paper, I build simulation models to show that, perhaps surprisingly, a group of agents who individually randomly follow a better available solution than their own can end up outperforming a group of agents who individually always follow the best available solution. Fluvial geomorphologists' advocacy for a culture of care towards rivers is increasingly animated by the potentialities of hyperscale environmental data. Championing catchment-specific responses, it has been argued that intensified datafication of rivers can help them express their own voice. Motivated by this provocation, this paper discusses prosthetic research encounters with the River Feshie in Scotland to tentatively approach the question 'what is a river's voice' in a moment of increasing digitisation and automation of geomorphological fieldwork via technologies of light. Exploring the allowances and excesses of illumination in the scientific imaging of the Feshie, it draws on 'critical physical geography' and 'feminist new materialism' to conceptualise the geovisualisation of riverscapes as a partial practice of envisioning, rather than a process of total illumination. By highlighting the multiplicity of riverine voices that become co-produced through differently configured sensing ensembles, the paper advocates for a critical fluvial geomorphology that interrogates its assumptions about access to the 'real'. The fundamental purpose of this article is to investigate solidarity against patriarchy, an aspect of radical feminism in Ncumisa Vapi's novel, Litshona Liphume. I have chosen radical feminism because female characters are often marginalised, not only in the family institution, but also in the entire society. One of the secondary aims is to determine the way the female character deals with the feminine condition she finds herself in, depending on whether it is constructive or destructive, positive or negative. Although hostility toward journalists is a pressing issue, research on how instructors are preparing students for hostility is lacking. Interviews with 30 journalism instructors from across the U.S. help illuminate how hostility is perceived and if/how hostility is talked about in journalism courses. In her novel In the Kitchen, British author Monica Ali explores various sociopolitical themes such as immigration, assimilation, human trafficking, and the unique challenges faced by immigrant women in contemporary society. Ali sheds light on how ordinary women become victims of sex trafficking. This study draws upon feminist theories such as Valerie Bryson's Feminist Political Theory to analyze Ali's work. I consider the role of fluidity in Barbie (2023) as a mode of exploring femininity and ecological connections through embodiment. Barbie's relationship to fluid changes throughout the film. She learns to drink, learns to cry and thus, I argue in this article, slowly moves from plastic to flesh by opening into fluidity. Through attention to the fluidity inherent within the very definition of plastic, as well as the necessary taking in and leaking out of fluid exchange within the body, the plasticine world of Barbie, positions fluidity as a vital object of power within both feminine embodiment and feminist spaces. Using Barbie 's relations with embodied fluidity through its plasticine solidity, I develop the notion of fluid relations to highlight the labour of our fluid interactions as well as their environmental tendrils. For feminist theory in the age of the Anthropocene, this article highlights the ways that biological, fluid relations take labour, leave traces, happen across shifting membranes and are both altered by and alter all they touch. Through this reading, I argue for a reinvigoration of our reading of bodily fluids in relation to a feminine excess within our embodied material world. But I also suggest that such a reinvigorated fluid reading must not forget our environmental relations: the fluidity at the heart of the plastic and the plastic at the heart of fluidity. In contemporary art, the representation of the "body", particularly the female body, has emerged as a crucial site of feminist critique and exploration. This is especially evident in the works of Iranian female artists, who challenge prevailing local and global discourses surrounding female embodiment. This study examines how artists such as Shirin Neshat (b. 1957), Parastou Forouhar (b. 1962), and Shadi Ghadirian (b. 1974) use their art to redefine representations of women's bodies within the socio-political context of post-revolutionary Iran. The restrictive post-revolutionary environment, marked by mandatory hijab laws and stringent social codes for women, has profoundly impacted artistic expression. These artists navigate this complex landscape, utilizing their work to contest both the imposed limitations and the Western gaze that often reduces Iranian women to stereotypes. By interrogating these artistic representations through a feminist lens, this paper explores the intersection of gender, politics, culture, and artistic expression, examining how these artists contribute to a broader redefinition of the female body in contemporary feminist art. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive–analytical approach grounded in feminist theory, including perspectives beyond Western thought, to analyze how these Iranian artists navigate, subvert, and reimagine traditional representations of women. The portrayal of women in traditional societies as victims of conflicts and gender inequalities often overlooks their roles as agents of change. This article examined the roles of Borana women in addressing structural inequality during peace, conflict, and post-conflict settings using endogenous institutions. The study utilized an ethnographic research design and a qualitative research approach. Both primary and secondary data were collected for the study. Key informant interviews and focus group discussions were used to collect primary data, while secondary data were obtained from relevant materials through desk review. The primary data were transcribed, translated, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of the study reveal that Borana women play crucial roles in fighting structural inequality through endogenous institutions in preserving peace, protecting the vulnerables, challenging male dominance, maintaining community life and upholding women's customary laws. The study also revealed the challenges women face in addressing structural inequality. These findings contribute to feminist theories by emphasizing women's active and diverse roles in combating structural inequality. Consequently, assertive policy options that safeguard women's customary rights and endogenous peacemaking practices are needed. In 2024, Eilish Quin published the novel Medea, which is a feminist approach to the Medea myth from Greek mythology. Medea's myth is heavily influenced by Euripides' play Medea, a play in which she kills her children to enact revenge on her cheating husband Jason. Quin's novel is a reimagining of the myth, which explores Medea's monstrosity and attempts to make her more sympathetic and less monstrous than the source text. I argue that Quin's novel pulls from established characteristics of Medea that depict her as a monster and attempts to shift the narrative perspective. Using monster theory, I examine Medea's monstrosity by looking at Euripides' play and Quin's novel. Quin attempts to recast Medea as a sympathetic woman instead of a monster through Medea's anti-woman sentiments and monstrous power, along with her status as an outsider; moreover, Medea's villainous nature is removed by changing the story surrounding the murder of her brother and children while stressing Jason's excessively violent nature. The wolf has stalked human society for centuries, becoming a figure of fear and reverence. It is unsurprising that such a figure would infiltrate culture via folklore, myth, and legend, most notably in the form of the werewolf. A review of historical references reveals that the figure of the 'she-wolf' also shadows human culture, providing an outlet for fears around women's power, desire, and sexuality. As storytelling has shifted from oral traditions to cinematic portrayals, the she-wolf has been left to the sidelines. This paper seeks to explore how the Ginger Snaps trilogy (2000–2004) reset this imbalance, providing three distinct narratives centered on the female werewolf, intertwining the stories of the Fitzgerald sisters and their lycanthropic transformation. This trilogy served to reinvent the stereotype of the werewolf, using traditional lycanthropic tropes to explore issues of feminine monstrosity, the painful transitory period of adolescence, and enduring social anxieties under patriarchal societies. This paper argues that the Ginger Snaps trilogy is an integral set of texts for understanding how the werewolf motif has transitioned into contemporary society and how it continues to act as a release point for wider social anxieties. This essay consists of a set of digital (post-)pandemic email correspondence held between a political sociologist and an interdisciplinary philosopher working at western European universities while the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly unfolded itself. Starting from an unsettling point in time in 2021, during which vaccination strategies and numerous eugenic pandemic containment measures were being discussed, the authors touch upon issues as diverse as the importance of embodied feminist theorising in pandemic crisis times; neoliberal extractive capitalism's influence on society, pandemic (mis)management, and higher education; the problematic (post-)pandemic business-as-usual-narrative; grief, mourning, and trauma; the power of anger and protesting; and the forced return to normal(cy). These conversations are held together by an irruptions-based methodology based on Deleuze and Guattari (2000). This study aimed to examine the relationship between parents' gender roles and parent-child interaction with a phenomenological approach. The data collected from diverse families from different socioeconomic levels were presented using qualitative analysis. The number of participants in the study was 60 (20 children, 20 fathers, 20 mothers). In the study, families at the middle socioeconomic level work in office jobs in public and private institutions, while families at the low socioeconomic level work in farming and animal husbandry activities. The data collected using a voice recorder with the consent of the participants were analyzed through content analysis following the process of code-category and theme creation. The most striking result of the current study is the reflection of sexist attitudes seen in both socioecoenomic contexts in family interactions on parental interactions with children. As a result of the study, it was concluded that mothers and fathers exhibited attitudes towards gender role stereotypes in their home routines and interactions with children. This situation is more intense in families living at a low socioeconomic level and at a considerable level in other families. Children's interaction with both parents is limited. AbstractThis qualitative study examined the experiences of return migrant women from Kosova to contribute to literature on repatriation. Grounded in postcolonial and transnational feminist theories and through a Critical Discourse Analysis of interviews with return migrant women, the study examined dominant discourses which shape the repatriation process in Kosova. Key findings illustrate that returnee women are impacted by and contribute to discourses of comparison, discourses of remigration, and discourses of gender. Returnee women use these discourses to navigate repatriation, while being impacted by intersections of gender and migration. These findings suggest that discourses of comparison often lead returnee women to consider re-migrating rather than reintegrating upon return. In addition, findings offer new insights into how the ability of returnee women to repatriate is hindered by gender norms and family structures which limit them to the domestic realm. In her essay "Situated Knowledges," the biologist and philosopher of science Donna Haraway tackles the question of scientific objectivity from a feminist perspective and opts for a 're-vision' of science that overcomes the traditional dualisms of epistemic subject and object as well as of nature and culture (science). Beyond scientific realism and radical social constructivism, Haraway understands 'nature' or 'world' neither as a passive resource nor as a human product of imagination. Rather, she argues, the world is to be understood as a 'witty agent' that has its own efficacy and historicity in the production of knowledge. Instead of epistemic reification, possession, and appropriation of 'nature', knowledge production should be understood as a conversation between material-semiotic actors, human, and non-human, from which none of the actors leaves as they entered. In this study, I want to explore what it means to conceive of nature or world in knowledge processes as a "witty agent" and how exactly one is to imagine this form of non-human agency. To this end, I will first explain Haraway's re-vision of "nature" beyond scientific realism and radical social constructivism (sect. 2). From this, I will discuss her underlying conception of agency (sect. 3). This involves first, a reconception of the traditional relation between epistemic subject and object as dynamic and situational relation (sect. 3.1). Second, Haraway characterizes the world's epistemic agency in more positive terms by using the 'trickster' figure as it appears in Southwest Native American representations in the form of a Coyote (sect. 3.2). Finally, I will come back to Haraway's initial question of an objective scientific approach to the world, which for her consists in a power-charged social relation of conversations with the world. Patriarchy in the Arab, mainly Saudi culture, is charged with complexities and contradictions as it thrives on the instrumentalisation of strict religious discourses and social norms, which are often used to legitimize the patriarchal oppression of women and the denial of their rights. This article examines patriarchy in two Saudi novels, one written by a male author and the other by a female author within their contexts: Hend and the Soldiers and Ikhtīlas. It also seeks to distinguish between patriarchal norms and Islamic teachings. The analyses draw on Islamic feminist theory, benefit from its cultural and literary dimensions that align with the Saudi context, and use an interdisciplinary approach; the study explores how women’s writing strategies in the selected novels challenge sociocultural and patriarchal perceptions and stereotypes of Saudi women’s roles and status and seek change in the male-dominated Saudi sociocultural system. The article challenged stereotypes of Saudi women by emphasizing their diversity and complexity. This article compares affinities in Walter Benjamin and Rosi Braidotti's historiographical methodologies, focusing on a monadic/nomadic perception of history. For Benjamin and Braidotti questions on how we remember, write and represent history are critical. Benjamin develops a non-linear representation of history in relation to the microscopic perception of Leibniz monad. Braidotti, in turn, develops a critical nomadic theory in relation to Deleuze's re-reading of Leibniz's monad. Can a link be established between these two adaptations of the concept of the monad? The field of feminist urban geography has shed light on the workings of power and its spatial manifestation at multiple scales. Weaving across this scholarship, I show that it is motivated by concerns about systemic hierarchies, emphasizes looking from the margins, and highlights alternative, emancipatory possibilities. First, these works show how patriarchal logics underpin institutional spaces and shape social norms that govern urban life in violent ways. Second, feminist scholarship has shown how the everyday lives of those at the margins can challenge and subvert a dominant making of boundaries between the public and private, or local and global. Third, they articulate how strategies to attain urban belonging, structured around commoning, care, and a call for freedom, can offer alternatives for just futures. Through a grounded understanding of everyday practices, this scholarship shows the significance of temporality in world‐making and complicates the notion of the urban as a site of aspiration. Moving forward, the field can be more attentive to how global urban margins hold promise in decentering power‐knowledge networks and showcase the place of the urban within center‐periphery relations. Feminist democratic theory has questioned and added complexity to the Habermasian deliberative model. In this article, we conduct a case study on the Unitary Feminist Assembly of Seville through participant observation and 'active' interviews. We reflect on the development of the field by discussing six key findings that capture a number of resolved issues in feminist theory. The aim is to verify the presence and relevance of the debates formulated by feminist theoreticians in the assembly and, above all, to check if these debates about deliberative democracy among feminists have a real reflection on feminist practices. We concluded that the concerns feminist theoreticians express about the conditions for the debate are shared, to a greater or lesser extent, by the activists who, moreover, implement measures to enhance participatory equality albeit with important pending challenges. This article argues that the key to the experimental novel The Cry: A New Dramatic Fable (1754) by Sarah Fielding and Jane Collier lies in the contrasting temporalities of the text's two genres: the endless debate in the frame narrative and the resolved marriage plot narrated by the heroine Portia. By placing repetition and progression side by side, Fielding and Collier emphasize the gulf between the pain of lived experience and the illusory comfort provided by fictional convention. Amid eighteenth-century literary debates on whether didactic texts should favor realism or idealism, The Cry insists that truly educational novels must represent womanhood pragmatically – as rife with oppression, frustration, and repetition. Through formal features, the co-authors use pace and duration to force their audience to experience the pain of womanhood in real time, then propose a way forward through their heroine's progressive neologisms.
