A remotely-controlled wetland paddy seeder (RCWPS) with a mechatronic seed-metering device was developed for precise sowing of pre-germinated paddy seeds in wet puddled field. The RCWPS, powered by a 180 W DC motor, utilized two lugged wheels for propulsion. Linear actuator-controlled dog clutch was connected with each wheel to discontinue the power supply while turning. The four-row seed metering unit comprised a seed metering plate with holes at 200 mm spacing, actuated by a solenoid. The diameter of the metering plate hole, operating speed, and speed of agitation were maintained at 11.18 mm, 0.84 km h−1, and 37 rpm, respectively. This comparative study assessed its performance and operational costs at 1/3rd and 2/3rd seed filling levels under puddled conditions, comparing it to a conventional drum seeder. At 2/3rd seed filling, RCWPS demonstrated 96% feed index quality, no multiple index, 4% missing index, 85.46% hill-distribution uniformity coefficient, and 72.45% seed dropping uniformity coefficient. Meanwhile, the values observed for drum seeder were 78.33%, 6.67%, 15%, 69.85%, and 60.94%, respectively. Similar results were observed at 1/3rd filling level. It showed better quality seed-dropping with RCWPS compared to the conventional drum seeder at all degrees of seed filling. The total cost for seeding per hectare of land with RCWPS and drum seeder were found to be 28.05 USD and 12.77 USD, respectively and the break-even point were found 0.54 ha year−1 and 0.038 ha year−1, respectively. The production of silage using fish viscera can be carried out with straightforward methods and permits the exploitation of nutrients that are usually discarded. This process fosters the concept of circular aquaculture. The aim of this study was to evaluate the inclusion of increasing levels of fish viscera silage (VS) on the physical quality of the feed pellets and their effects on their growth performance, health parameters and on economic indices when the experimental extruded feed was offered to tambaqui. A fermented fish VS produced in‐house was included in increasing levels on a wet‐basis in the formulation of five experimental diets (VS 0%, VS 5%; VS 10%; VS 15% and VS 20%). Juvenile tambaqui (~22.6 g) were stocked in fibreglass tanks of 700 L (n = 4; 21 fish per tank) with a recirculation system and the five experimental diets were attributed in a completely randomized design. The fish were fed with the experimental diets (to apparent satiation) for 13 weeks. At the end of the trial, no significant differences were observed for production performance. Fish fed with the highest inclusion level of VS presented the highest concentration of plasma cholesterol, but this was still within acceptable values for this species. The inclusion of fish VS in diets for juvenile tambaqui reduced the activity of the plasma ALT enzyme, confirming normal liver function. Extruded feed containing fish VS had a production cost of US$ 0.95 per kg, which does not significantly impact the economic indices. Haemorrhagic bowel syndrome (HBS) is one of the most common causes of death in fattening pigs worldwide. The objective of this descriptive study was to systematically assess predictors or causal components for the appearance of HBS using case farms (mortality rate caused by HBS ≥ 1.5%) in comparison with control farms (mortality rate caused by HBS ≤ 0.25%), focusing on feed ingredients, feed quality and size, and gastrointestinal pathogens. The inclusion of sugar beet as a feed component in liquid feeding systems was found to be associated (p = 0.03) with farms identified as HBS cases. Another predictive or causal factor found for liquid feeding systems, but only for those using meal, was particle size. A higher percentage of small particles (< 2 mm) in the meal was associated with a higher risk of being an HBS case farm (p = 0.02), while no relevant association was detected for the use of pellets. Sugar beet in the diet was also associated with the incidence of HBS. The microbial quality of the feed in dry feeding systems, specifically the number of total aerobes at the first and last outlet tubes, was associated with a higher incidence of HBS (p = 0.03). Faecal sample analysis showed a difference (p < 0.05) in the prevalence of B. pilosicoli in the herd category (case vs. control herd). In this descriptive study, five predictive or causal factors were identified for an HBS farm with a mortality rate due to HBS ≥ 1.5%. These included the number of aerobes in dry matter samples from the first and last feeders, the particle diameter of the meal used in liquid feeding systems and sugar beet as a component of liquid feeding rations, and the presence of B. pilosicoli as an infectious agent at animal level. Relevant associations reinforce the findings of the previously published Swiss study that HBS is a multifactorial syndrome involving different aspects of pig production and cannot be attributed to a single cause. Background: The encapsulation of metagenome-derived multi-enzymes presents a novel approach to improving poultry feed by enhancing nutrient availability and reducing anti-nutritional factors. By integrating and encapsulated enzymes such as carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes, protease, lipase, and laccase into feed formulations, this method not only improves feed digestibility but also potentially contributes to animal health and productivity through antimicrobial properties. Results: This study investigates the encapsulation of metagenome-derived enzymes, including carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes, protease, lipase, and laccase, using Arabic and Guar gums as encapsulating agents. The encapsulated multi-enzymes exhibited significant antimicrobial activity, achieving a 92.54% inhibition rate against Escherichia coli at a concentration of 6 U/mL. Fluorescence tracking with FITC-labeled enzymes confirmed efficient encapsulation and distribution, while physical characterization, including moisture content and solubility assessments, along with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) imaging, validated successful encapsulation. The encapsulated enzymes also effectively hydrolyzed poultry feed, leading to an increase in phenolic content and antioxidant activity, as confirmed by 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assays. Conclusions: The encapsulated multi-enzymes improved the overall feed quality by increasing reducing sugars and enhancing physical properties such as solubility and water-holding capacity. Simple Summary: The body weight of pullets (i.e., sexually immature chickens) immediately before they start to lay eggs can impact their subsequent egg production, feed intake, and feed efficiency. Therefore, pullets of a particular size may be required to meet performance targets throughout their egg-laying phase. This study evaluated lighting (hours of light/day) and feeding programs during rearing as tools to grow pullets to a designated size. Their performance was then monitored throughout their early egg-laying period. Compared to restricted feeding and shorter lighting/day, ad libitum (ad lib) feeding—or free access to feed—together with longer hours of light/day resulted in higher feed intake and heavier pullets. However, pullets fed ad lib but with fewer hours of light were the first to start to lay eggs. Interestingly, pullets reared with ad lib feeding continued to consume more feed throughout their early egg-laying period. They also produced more eggs, which were heavier than the eggs from hens that, as pullets, had been restricted to lower feed intake during rearing. Hence, lighting and feeding regimens during rearing are practical tools that can achieve specific pullet weight, feed intake, hen weight, egg production, and egg size throughout the early egg-laying period of commercial chickens. As hen body weight (BW) impacts egg weight (EW) and feed efficiency, egg producers prefer pullets of a specific size to enter the egg-laying cycle. Lighting and feeding programs were tested to achieve target Hy-Line Brown pullet BW. Three feeding programs were implemented: ad libitum (ad lib); feeding to achieve breed standard weight for age (BSW); and feeding to achieve 88% BSW (managed). The feeding programs were used with either control lighting (CL: 10 h light/d from 7 weeks of age (WOA)) or reduced lighting (RL: 9 h light/d from 4 WOA). One-hundred and fifty pullets were assigned to each feeding program by lighting treatment during rearing. At 16 WOA, 70 pullets from each treatment during rearing were moved to cages and onto ad libitum feeding under a step-up photoperiod reaching 16 h light/d at 33 WOA. The age and weight of the first egg, hen BW, feed intake (FI), egg production (EP), and EW were measured until 36 WOA. At 16 WOA, pullets reared with ad lib feeding under CL had higher BW and cumulative FI (CFI) compared to ad lib feeding under RL. The latter were the earliest to lay, and the managed pullets under CL were the last to lay. Control lighting and BSW independently generated the heaviest first eggs. At 36 WOA, BW, EW, CFI, and cumulative egg production (CEP) were highest following ad lib feeding during rearing, while rearing under CL generated higher BW and EW but lower CEP than RL. BACKGROUND: Insufficient endogenous nutrients in the broiler embryo can lead to muscle gluconeogenesis, which ultimately affects the post‐hatching performance of chicks. This study investigated the effects of in ovo feeding (IOF) of N‐carbamylglutamate (NCG) on the growth hormones, carcass yield, and meat quality in broilers. Fertile eggs from a 30‐week‐old Ross 308 breeder flock were divided into three treatment groups: NC (non‐injection), SC (100 μL saline‐injection), and NCG (2 mg NCG injection). Each group had six replicates, with 70 eggs per replicate during incubation. Injections were administered on the 17.5th day of embryonic development. After hatching, 270 chicks were selected for 42‐day rearing for further sampling. RESULTS: Chicks in the NCG group had significantly higher body weight (BW) and average daily gain (ADG) at the growing phase, increased growth and testosterone hormone in both feeding phases (21 and 42 days), and improved average daily gain (ADG) and food conversion ratio (FCR) in both grower and entire feeding phases (P < 0.05). Triiodothyronine (T3) and tetraiodothyronine (T4) levels, carcass yield, dressing, drum weight, breast muscle weight, drumstick weights, thighs, pectoralis major, and their part percentage of carcass were improved in the NCG group (P < 0.05), these effects were varied along feeding phases. Moreover, IOF of the NCG also improved pectoralis breast muscle color values at 24 h post mortem (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that NCG injection at the late embryonic age of broiler enhances growth performance and meat quality throughout the lifespan and this can probably be attributed to an increase in thyroid and testosterone hormones, indicating potential involvement in metabolic and nutrient partitioning pathway regulation. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. The use of unconventional feedstuffs aims to incorporate alternative dietary options to contribute to the sustainability of livestock systems. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of incorporating Tithonia diversifolia (TD) into sugarcane (SC) silage on nutritional quality and ruminal fermentation in an in vitro gas production assay. The underlying hypothesis was that the increased protein content in silage with the addition of TD may result in a reduction in total gas production, including methane, due to potential modifications in the substrate fermentation profile. Treatments were formulated based on the inclusion of TD in SC silage, on a dry matter basis, as follows: TC: 100% SC; T25 = 75% SC + 25% TD; T50 = 50% SC + 50% TD; T75 = 25% SC + 75% TD. For the preparation of silages, forage samples were collected, subjected to pre-drying for approximately 24 h, then chopped, mixed according to each proposed treatment, and packed into mini silos (± 2 kg each) with increasing levels of TD. The silos were opened after 30 days, and samples were collected for chemical composition analysis and in vitro gas production assay. Silages with the addition of TD showed higher levels of crude protein and neutral detergent fiber compared to pure sugarcane silage. The addition of TD reduced total gas and methane production. The inclusion of Tithonia diversifolia in sugarcane silage demonstrated potential to enhance the nutritional quality of feed for ruminant production systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To improve the expandability, seeding accuracy, and operating speed range of the electric drive system (EDS) of precision seeders, this study constructed an EDS based on a controller area network (CAN) bus and designed a motor controller based on a field-orientated control (FOC) algorithm. Full-factorial bench and field tests based on seed spacing (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 m) and operating speed (3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 km/h) were carried out to evaluate the performance of the EDS. The results of bench tests showed that seeding quality varied inversely with operating speed and positively with seed spacing. The average quality of feed index (QFI) at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 m seed spacing in bench tests was 88.38%, 96.67%, and 97.36%, with the average coefficient of variation (CV) being 20.13%, 16.27%, and 13.20%. Analysis of variance confirmed that both operating speed and seed spacing had a significant effect on QFI and CV (p < 0.001). The analysis of motor rotational speed accuracy showed that the relative error of motor rotational speed above 410 rpm did not exceed 2.24%, and the relative error had less influence on the seeding quality. The average QFI was 85.93%, 95.91%, and 96.24%, with the average CV being 21.12%, 15.50%, and 16.49% at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 m seed spacing in field tests. The methods and results of this study can provide a reference for the design and optimization of the EDS in a maize precision seeder and provide an effective solution for the improvement of maize yields. Understanding the effects of bacteria and enzyme addition on mixed crop silage is imperative for dairy producers to make informed decisions. The current study evaluated the chemical changes in silage prepared from different ramie and elephant grass ratios (30:70, 50:50, 70:30, and 100:0) in response to bacteria (0, 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg) and enzyme addition (0, 10, 20, and 30 mg/kg) in a complete randomized design. The results indicated that the proportion of ramie in silage (p < 0.01), level of bacteria (p < 0.05), and level of enzyme added (p = 0.05) affected the CP, fiber, volatile fatty acids, and lactic acid contents and pH of silage. By comprehensive analysis, low lignin content and pH of silage with high lactic acid content was observed with a 30% ramie proportion. High CP and lactic acid contents with low ADF, lignin, and pH values were observed with the addition of bacteria (p < 0.05). High lactic acid with low ADF content was observed with the addition of enzyme in silage (p ≤ 0.05). The optimum quality of silage was observed when the ramie, bacteria, and enzymes were added at the levels of 30%, 200 mg/kg, and 20 mg/kg, respectively, in ramie and elephant grass mixed silage. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The livestock sector contributes to increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The emissions generated from livestock mainly originate from enteric fermentation, which is strongly influenced by feed quality. The utilization of fermented rice straw as a source of crude fiber for animal feed is one solution for providing high-quality feed. Central Java is one of the centers of cattle farming and rice production in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from fermented straw feed formula commonly practiced by cattle farmers in Central Java.METHODS: Greenhouse gas production was conducted in vitro using three formulas arranged in a completely randomized design with six replications. The three feed formula treatments were: 30 percent king grass + 35 percent rice bran+ 35 percent wheat bran (treatment one), 30 percent fermented rice straw + 35 percent rice bran + 35 percent wheat bran (treatment two), and 30 percent fermented rice straw + 70 percent concentrate (treatment three). Feed nutrient content and enteric gas production were analyzed to determine the quality of the feed formula as well as to determine feed digestibility and greenhouse gas production during the digestion process. The gas production was measured at regular intervals of 8, 16, 24, 36, and 48 hours. The methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide contents were analyzed using gas chromatography. Data on nutrient content and digestibility of dry matter and organic matter were analyzed using analysis of variance, and the estimated greenhouse gas emissions were calculated using the ideal gas equation approach.FINDINGS: The quality of the feed formula influences the amountof greenhouse gases emission produced by enteric fermentation processes. The feed quality of treatment one was equivalent to that of treatment two. The treatment three feed formulation had a crude protein content approximately 3 percent higher than that of treatment one and treatment two. The digestibility of dry matter and organic matter values did not show significant differences between the treatments. The feed formula treatment two can reduce potential greenhouse gas emissions by 1.81 percent from treatment one, whereas treatment three can reduce potential greenhouse gas emissions by 27.78 percent from treatment one and by 26.4 percent from treatment two. These results indicate that feed formulas with higher crude protein content have greater potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This finding can be used to mitigate and develop strategies to improve feed quality by utilizing agricultural waste as a broader low greenhouse gas emission livestock management effortCONCLUSION: Utilization of fermented straw has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from enteric fermentation and contamination of unutilized straw waste and has the opportunity to reduce land use and greenhouse gas emissions from forage plants. Efforts to utilize fermented straw as a low greenhouse gas emission feed need to be followed by improvements in feed quality. More comprehensive studies need to be carried out on the variations in feed formulas based on differences in regional resources, the economic feasibility of utilizing fermented straw combined with various feed ingredients, and the life cycle assessment of straw utilization as a feed ingredient based on geographical, social, economic, technological, and environmental dimensions.

This review paper provides an in‐depth analysis of the current status, challenges, and strategies for improvement within the fish feed industry in East Africa, focusing on Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Aquaculture production in these countries is experiencing steady growth, driven by increasing demand for fish and fish products for both nutritional and economic purposes. Despite the market facilitating the transition from extensive to semi‐intensive and moderately intensive farming systems across the four countries, the sector's progress is hampered by a lack of sustainable, locally produced, high‐quality, and cost‐effective fish feeds tailored to different developmental stages of fish. Despite the evident need, there is a notable scarcity of comprehensive reviews addressing the regional perspective of fish feed due to heightened cross‐border trade driven by the soaring demand and increased installation of cages in Lake Victoria, as well as in inland dams and reservoirs. This paper addresses critical challenges, such as regional scarcity and limited access to quality feed ingredients, regulatory obstacles, insufficient quality control measures, infrastructure constraints, and a lack of awareness and understanding of feed management and formulation. To overcome these challenges, the paper recommends fostering collaboration to establish a robust regional fish feed supply chain, investing in research and development initiatives, advocating for policy reforms and regulatory support, and compliance with East African Community quality standards for fish feed. Moreover, there is an urgent need to enhance human resource capacity through training and extension services, promote public investment support, strengthen sector institutions and industry associations, conduct training and awareness programs for feed providers, and improve storage facilities to maintain feed quality. The paper provides policymakers with valuable insights to inform targeted interventions that will catalyze positive transformation within the fish feed industry in East Africa. A series of screw structures with different screw leads, outer diameters, and head numbers were established by using a modeling software. After the particle model was established and the contact parameters were set in the discrete element numerical simulation software, the conveying process of screw under different structures was simulated. The post-treatment module was used to analyze the force of particles in the conveying process and the mass flow rate at the outlet of the feeder, and the effect of screw structure on the feeding quality was discussed. The results indicated that the screw lead was the main factor affecting the conveying efficiency of the screw feeder. The conveying efficiency of the screw with the 20 mm lead was about 15 times as high as that with the 14mm lead; however, the discharging accuracy was reduced. The screw clearance is the main factor affecting the force of particles. The decrease of the clearance can lead to an increase in the force of particles. The average force of the screw clearance is about 1. 2×10-2 N. The double-headed screw caused the surge of force in the particle conveying process, resulting in a peak value of about 15 N. In this work, a laminate based on bioresin and natural fibers was produced. Flax fabric was selected as the natural fiber. The biocomposite was subjected to strength tests. Stress–strain characteristics and strength indicators were determined. The workability of the laminate produced was also tested using milling technology. The tests were carried out using five carbide shank cutters for different purposes. The cutters with the geometry used in the processing of polymer materials and composites, general purpose cutters, and cutters with the geometry for aluminum and with different numbers of blades were analyzed. In order to obtain information on the workability of the prepared material, machining tests with different configurations of technological parameters were carried out. For each cutter, the effect of cutting speed and feed rate on the quality of the machined surface was tested. Due to the small thickness of the laminate, the machining was carried out in one pass, as a result of which the cutting depth in each case was constant. Changes in cutting speed and feed were evenly distributed over five levels. The quality of machining was assessed in two stages. The first stage included a visual assessment of the machined surface, involving a preliminary qualification of the machining parameters. The criterion was the amount of chips, frays, burrs, etc., remaining after machining that adhered to the surface. The next stage was the measurement of the geometric structure of the surface, during which the roughness parameters were analyzed using an optical microscope with a roughness analysis attachment. Quantitative analysis was performed for the best quality composite surfaces from each measurement series. The studies showed a dependence of the quality of machining on the technological parameters used. High tool speed, regardless of the type, especially at low feed, led to the sticking of chips, which had a very delicate form. In turn, low tool speed and high feed, due to the chip thickness, favored the formation of burrs. Machining with different types of tools showed that the process progresses better for tools with sharp blade geometry. The purpose of the study was to analyze the effect of feeding type on selected quality parameters and the nutritional characteristics of pork fat. Fats were extracted by using the modified Folch method from the groin, jowl and trimming shoulder of pigs fed two types of diets: liquid and dry. The peroxide values and fatty acid profiles, as well as their distribution, in the triacylglycerol molecules were determined. Additionally, nutritional indexes and thermal properties, including the oxidative stability of pork fat, were assessed. Among the tested fats, the groin fat was characterized by the best oxidative stability which did not depend on the diet type used. In the case of jowl and trimming shoulder, a higher share of monounsaturated fatty acids was determined in fats of pigs fed a liquid diet, whereas in the groin, jowl and trimming shoulder fats of pigs fed dry feed, a higher share of polyunsaturated fatty acids was found. Fats extracted from the groin, jowl and trimming shoulder of pigs fed a liquid diet showed a more favorable ratio of n-6 to n-3 acids. Despite the different feeding systems used, tested fats were characterized by a similar distribution of fatty acids in triacylglycerol molecules with a positive effect on fat digestibility. It is worth emphasizing that especially in the case of trimming shoulder fat, the influence of a diet used in pigs' nutrition on quality parameters was noticeable. The trimming shoulder fat of pigs fed a liquid diet was characterized by a longer induction time of oxidation, contained less saturated fatty acids and presented a more favorable fatty acid profile with a beneficial distribution of fatty acids in triacylglycerol molecules. Presently, the triangular cell sunflower seed metering roller has not been evaluated in field conditions using a power tiller. This study was undertaken to evaluate its working performance in the field conditions. Randomized complete block design with three replications and three level of forward speed and a quantity of seeds in hopper was used to evaluate performance of the triangular cell sunflower seed metering roller. Performance indices namely mean spacing; miss index, multiple indexes, quality of feed index, precision index, and coefficient of variation were used to describe the performance of the triangular cell sunflower seed metering roller. Results were analysed statistically to determine the effect of forward speed, quantity of seed in the hopper and their interaction on the performance indices. Best performance was at a combination of forward speed 1.3 km h-1 and a quantity of seeds in the hopper of 2.392 kg, which gave a mean spacing of 226.16 cm, a miss index of 25%, multiple indexes of 0.43%, a quality of feed index of 97.33% and a precision index of 16.58%. Based on agronomical recommendations for sunflower planting and performance comparison with other sunflower metering device, it is concluded that triangular cell sunflower seed metering roller can perform efficiently and economically and can be adopted by the small and medium farmers. The presence of complex microorganisms in the rumen of ruminants are able to process the lignocellulose from low quality feed and fodder into volatile fatty acids, convert non-protein nitrogen into microbial protein and synthesize B vitamins, thus, ruminants are able to produce food of animal origin without competition for feed with non-ruminants and man. On the other hand, they contribute 14 per cent of anthropogenic methane, released annually into the atmosphere. Manipulating the rumen microbiome is considered as an important approach to reduce environmental impact, while increasing production efficiency in ruminants. A systematic literature search was undertaken and relevant research and review articles were downloaded, classified and salient points extracted to prepare the narrative review on "Influence of Feed and Feeding strategies on Rumen microbiome". The microbial community in the rumen is the most diverse composed of bacteria, archaea, protozoa, fungi and uncharacterized virome. Differences in ruminal microbial community compositions are predominantly attributable to diet. Dietary manipulation offers a viable solution to alter the rumen microbiome so that the present-day challenges faced by the ruminant livestock industry is addressed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Plantago lanceolata has been increasingly cultivated in recent years as a forage crop due to its high feeding quality, good adaptability and medicinal benefits. Between 2015 and 2023, Alternaria leaf spot (ALS), appearing as reddish‐brown necrotic spots with a greyish white to pale brown centre, was commonly observed in two forage germplasm nurseries of P. lanceolata of Sichuan Province, China. Initially, 139 Alternaria strains were isolated from leaf lesions, and then identified using the identity of rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences in the NCBI database and the similarity of morphological characteristics. By pure culture technique, six representative isolates were finally obtained for the present study. Based on both multilocus phylogeny (SSU, LSU, ITS, gapdh, rpb2, tef1, endoPG, OPA10‐2, alt a 1, KOG1058 and KOG1077) and morphology, four Alternaria species were identified: three new records of A. alternata, A. arborescens species complex and A. gossypina on this host in China, belonging to section Alternaria, and a new species of section Porri, namely, A. lanceolatae sp. nov. Pathogenicity tests by inoculation on both detached leaves and whole plants revealed that A. lanceolatae was the most important causal agent of ALS, while the other three species were nonpathogenic to P. lanceolata. This study characterized a novel pathogenic Alternaria species of section Porri from P. lanceolata in China and could contribute as useful research for possible ALS management. The objective of this study was to determine, develop mathematical models, and optimize the in-row seed distribution uniformity performance of a vacuum-type seed metering unit in peanut seeding under different operating conditions. The greased belt stand trials based on the Central Composite Design (CCD) were. Quality of feed index, multiple index, miss index, precision, and coefficient of precision were examined as dependent variables, while the peripheral speed of the seed plate, hole diameter of the seed plate, and vacuum pressure were selected as independent variables. Based on the analysis of experimental data from five different levels of each independent variable, performed using the CCD, a meaningful mathematical model was developed in cubic form for the quality of feed index for peanut seeding, and the model was optimized. The ideal conditions were determined from the model as 0.079 ms−1, 6.94 mm, and 7.07 kPa for peripheral speed of the seed plate, hole diameter, and vacuum pressure, respectively. Based on the findings, quality in seeding by selecting the parameters that affect the performance of precision peanut seeding can be enhanced, resulting in valuable information that can be used as a useful guide to farmers, machine manufacturers, and researchers. SUMMARY: The most common heat treatment in the poultry feed production industry is pelleting. The purpose of pelleting is to condense smaller feed particles into larger particles in order to increase economic profit by increasing feed consumption and as a result growth performance. From the point of view of feed processing science, as the particle size decreases, the efficiency of mixing and homogenisation of feed improves, and as a result, the efficiency and quality of produced pellets increases. From the point of view of nutrition science, the smaller the feed particles, the greater their contact surface and due to the greater contact of substrates with digestive enzymes, the digestibility of nutrients ameliorates. The presence of heat, moisture and mechanical pressure during pelleting creates chemical and physical changes that may cause alterations in the feed components, growth and health of the bird. The quality of steam and the retention time in the conditioner are important indicators affecting the quality of the produced pellets. The quality of steam is related to the parameters of temperature and humidity inside the conditioner. In addition, increasing the retention time in the conditioner may enhance starch gelatinisation and protein denaturation. Various studies in the field of investigating the effects of conditioning temperature (Ctem) and time (Cti) on the pellet quality and broilers health have provided different results. Therefore, this review will discuss the studies that have been done on the effects of these factors on the pellet quality, broilers performance, gut development and health and nutrient digestibility. Quantum annealers conventionally use forward annealing to generate heuristic solutions. Reverse annealing can potentially generate better solutions but necessitates an appropriate initial state. Ways to find such states are generally unknown or highly problem dependent, offer limited success, and severely restrict the scope of reverse annealing. We use a general method that improves the overall solution quality and quantity by feeding reverse annealing with low-quality solutions obtained from forward annealing. An experimental demonstration of solving the graph coloring problem using the D-Wave quantum annealers shows that our method is able to convert invalid solutions obtained from forward annealing to at least one valid solution obtained after assisted reverse annealing for 57 % of 459 random Erdos–Rényi graphs. Our method significantly outperforms random initial states, obtains more unique solutions on average, and widens the applicability of reverse annealing. Although the average number of valid solutions obtained drops exponentially with the problem size, a scaling analysis for the graph coloring problem shows that our method effectively extends the computational reach of conventional forward annealing using reverse annealing. Corn silage is the main feed in the diet of dairy cows and other ruminant livestock. Silage corn feed is very susceptible to spoilage and corruption due to the influence of aerobic secondary fermentation during the silage process. At present, silage quality testing of corn feed mainly relies on the combination of sensory evaluation and laboratory measurement. The sensory review method is difficult to achieve precision and objectivity, while the laboratory determination method has problems such as cumbersome testing procedures, time-consuming, high cost, and damage to samples. In this study, the external sensory quality grading model for different qualities of silage corn feed was established using hyperspectral data. To explore the feasibility of using hyperspectral data for external sensory quality grading of corn silage, a hyperspectral system was used to collect spectral data of 200 corn silage samples in the 380–1004 nm band, and the samples were classified into four grades: excellent, fair, medium, and spoiled according to the German Agricultural Association (DLG) standard for sensory evaluation of silage samples. Three algorithms were used to preprocess the fodder hyperspectral data, including multiplicative scatter correction (MSC), standard normal variate (SNV), and S–G convolutional smoothing. To reduce the redundancy of the spectral data, variable combination population analysis (VCPA) and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) were used for feature wavelength selection, and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) algorithm was used for data dimensionality reduction, constructing random forest classification (RFC), convolutional neural networks (CNN) and support vector machines (SVM) models. The best classification model was derived based on the comparison of the model results. The results show that SNV-LDA-SVM is the optimal algorithm combination, where the accuracy of the calibration set is 99.375% and the accuracy of the prediction set is 100%. In summary, combined with hyperspectral technology, the constructed model can realize the accurate discrimination of the external sensory quality of silage corn feed, which provides a reliable and effective new non-destructive testing method for silage corn feed quality detection. Background: Addressing critical veterinary drugs, especially drugs with solubility problems like albendazole, and their implications for therapeutic efficacy, in-vitro dissolution studies can indeed provide valuable insights into how different brands of albendazole boluses perform under standardized conditions, helping to assess their dissolution profiles and potential bioavailability. Methods: Six brands of albendazole 300 mg boluses were collected from December 2020 to May 2021 G.C. The laboratory work was conducted from December 2020 to May 2021 in the National Animal Products and Veterinary Drugs and Feed Quality Assessment Centre (APVD-FQAC) laboratories. The collected brands from government veterinary clinics and private veterinary shops were subjected to model independent and dependent parameters. The dissolution test was conducted according to the USP monograph. Results: The study found that none of the six brands met the requirements of the dissolution test, as their API release was less than 80% within the specified 60-minute timeframe according to USP standards. Model independence indicated that only one brand (Alb002 = 3.72) achieved a difference factor of ≤ 15%. The remaining four brands (4/6) did not meet this criterion. However, the similarity factor (f2) revealed that all five brands (5/6) were comparable to the comparator products, with f2 values of 50%. The mean dissolution time results confirmed that three brands (3/6) had the highest dissolution rate and the fastest onset of action. The model-dependent kinetics indicated that the Weibull and Korsemeyer-Peppas models were the best fit for the release of drug substances. Conclusion: The study highlights issues with albendazole boluses' quality, highlighting the need for national in-vitro dissolution studies. These recommendations could improve quality control, streamline regulatory frameworks, and offer practical, cost-effective methods for evaluating drug efficacy and safety, ensuring veterinary pharmaceuticals meet safety and efficacy standards. Background and Aim: With the increasing cost of bulk raw materials and advancements in the feed enzyme industry, corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) have shown more opportunities for use in broiler diets. Supplementation with multiple enzymes could mitigate anti-nutritional factors in DDGS, enhance nutrient digestibility, and thereby increase its utilization in broiler diets, leading to reduced feed costs. This study evaluated the effects of multienzyme supplementation on growth performance, nutrient utilization, intestinal morphology, and pellet quality in broiler chickens fed diets containing conventional levels of DDGS (C-DDGS) and higher levels of DDGS (H-DDGS). Materials and Methods: A total of 800 1-day-old Cobb 500 chicks was assigned to four dietary treatments with eight replicates of 25 birds each: C-DDGS (5% DDGS in Starter and 10% in Grower), C-DDGS + Enzyme (C-DDGS diet supplemented with multienzyme), H-DDGS (10% and 20%) + Enzyme (H-DDGS diet supplemented with multienzyme, 10% DDGS in Starter and 20% in Grower), and H-DDGS (15% and 30%) + Enzyme. Results: The C-DDGS + enzyme diet increased (p < 0.05) body weight gain (BWG), reduced the feed conversion ratio, enhanced (p < 0.05) digestibility of dry matter (DM), crude protein, and hemicellulose (HC), and improved (p < 0.05) intestinal villus height and villus: crypt ratio of broilers. The H-DDGS (10% and 20%) + enzyme diet exhibited no difference in (p > 0.05) growth performance, nutrient digestibility (except HC), and intestinal morphological parameters, whereas the H-DDGS (15% and 30%) + enzyme diet decreased (p < 0.05) feed intake and BWG and reduced (p < 0.05) energy and DM digestibility by impact (p < 0.05) intestinal morphology compared with the C-DDGS enzyme-free diet. The H-DDGS diet had lower (p < 0.05) pellet hardness and poorer durability than the C-DDGS diet. Conclusion: Supplementing multienzyme in the C-DDGS (5% and 10%) diet improved growth performance from day 0 to 28 and diminished growth performance in the H-DDGS (15% and 30%) diet by influencing intestinal morphology and feed pellet quality in broiler chickens. Within the realm of poultry feed mill operations, the persistent concern over microbial feed quality necessitates the establishment of a robust baseline for enhancing and sustaining the standards of commercial feeds. This dual-phase investigation, comprising Parts I, was previously published, and the current study presented here as Part II aimed to illuminate this baseline using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. In Part II, nine distinct commercial poultry feeds formulated as starters, growers, starter/growers, or supplements, the selected feeds underwent genomic DNA extraction, amplification with custom dual-indexed primers, and subsequent Illumina MiSeq sequencing. Through data analysis in QIIME2-2021.4 and R Studio, the study unveils alpha (Kruskal–Wallis) and beta (ANOSIM) diversity, taxonomic differences (ANCOM), and core microbiomes (core_members), deeming main and pairwise effects statistically significant at p < 0.05 and Q < 0.05. Notably, the investigation identified 30% common core microbial members across the nine feed types, shedding light on potential foodborne poultry pathogens such as Helicobacter and Campylobacter. A study was conducted using twenty-one (21) West African Dwarf (WAD) goats with an average weight of 10.50 ± 0.36 kg to evaluate the nutrient intake, weight gain, and nitrogen balance of WAD goats fed microbial-treated Bambara nutshell diets. The chemical and mineral compositions of the diets were also determined. The goats were allotted to seven dietary treatments, replicated three times in a completely randomized design. The Bambara nutshells were sterilized for 15 minutes, inoculated with 25, 50, and 75 ml of each Pleurotus pulmonaris and Aspergillus niger, incubated for 7 days and air dried. The treated Bambara nutshell was incorporated into the diets at the rate of 0ml (Diet A), 25 ml P. pulmonaris (Diet B), 50 ml P. pulmonaris (Diet C), (Diet D), 75 ml P. pulmonaris (Diet E), 25 ml A. niger (Diet F) 50 ml A. niger and (Diet G) 75 ml A. niger respectively. The experimental period lasted for 56 days excluding 2 weeks of adaptation. Results showed that the proximate compositions were significantly influenced (p<0.05) by the treatment except for crude protein (CP). Diet F had the highest dry matter (DM) values (94.77%) and CP (20.33%) while Diet C had the least (92.33%) DM and Diet G (19.16%) had the least CP. Goats fed Diet D had the highest daily weight gain (107.14 g/day), and best feed/gain ratio of 6.20. This study investigated the effect of gaseous ozone (O3) on the chemical and microbiological properties of whole-plant corn silage. Conducted on a commercial dairy farm in Brazil, maize was ensiled in experimental bag silos and treated with varying levels of O3 (0%, 1.25%, 3.12%, 4.15%, and 6.25%). The findings revealed minimal nutrient losses in starch, non-fiber carbohydrates, crude protein, and total digestible nutrients compared to untreated fresh maize. O3-treated silages exhibited increased levels of ash, ether extract, calcium, and phosphorus. Notably, the application of 3.12% to 4.15% O3 improved microbiological characteristics, significantly reducing mold and yeast populations, which are common issues in farm-produced silage. This study demonstrated that gaseous ozone is a promising additive for enhancing the microbiological quality of corn silage, offering an effective alternative to traditional chemical preservatives. Livestock productivity is strongly influenced by three main pillars: breeding, feeding, and management. The quality of animal feed, especially for sheep, is highly dependent on the raw materials used, which must have a balanced nutritional content and quality. Grass as the main feed is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain due to land conversion, so the use of concentrates and feed fermentation techniques is a promising solution. This research focuses on the development of an expert system to determine the quality of fermented sheep diets using the forward chaining method. The forward chaining method is used to organize the facts and data collected to arrive at the optimal solution. Feed quality is classified into three grades (G1, G2, G3) based on the ingredients used and certain criteria. Through observation, interviews, problem identification, understanding, analysis, and literature study, this system is designed to assist farmers in choosing the right and efficient feed ingredients. The results show that this expert system is effective in identifying and classifying the quality of fermented sheep diets and provides clear guidance to feed manufacturers in selecting suitable ingredients. The system is also expected to be developed into a mobile application to help users obtain information quickly and accurately, thereby increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of sheep feed management. Poor feeding system hygiene may contribute to uncontrolled spontaneous fermentation in liquid pig feed and its associated undesirable effects. This study aimed to determine the effects of an intensive sanitisation programme in a grow-finisher liquid feeding system by monitoring microbiological and physico-chemical parameters of liquid feed and microbial colonisation of the feeding system surfaces. The sanitisation programme involved a combination of physical and chemical cleaning between batches of grow-finisher pigs, combined with nightly rinsing of the system with an organic acid blend. Improved hygiene of the internal surfaces of the mixing tank and feed pipeline, particularly until week 5 post-cleaning, was evidenced by reduced counts of lactic acid bacteria, total aerobes, Enterobacteriaceae, yeasts and moulds and decreased adenosine triphosphate concentrations. Enterobacteriaceae and moulds remained undetectable on pipeline surfaces for 10 weeks. Scanning electron microscopy of the feed pipelines confirmed these findings. Conversely, the impact on liquid feed microbiology was minimal and short-lived. However, acetic acid, ethanol and biogenic amine concentrations decreased in the feed post-cleaning and no gross energy losses were observed. Therefore, by controlling surface microbial communities on liquid feeding systems via implementation of the sanitisation programme developed in the current study, on-farm liquid feed quality should be improved. Introduction: The design of the maize metering device involves centrifugal variable diameter pneumatic and cleaning mechanisms, aiming to enhance the performance and power efficiency of pneumatic maize metering devices. Leveraging the impact of changes in centrifugal diameter and the guidance and positioning of airflow, we optimize the hole insert, seeding plate, seed limit board, and integrated front shell. This optimization facilitates the adjustment of both the quantity and posture of seed filling. As a result, seeds can form a uniform flow within the annular cavity, reducing the wind pressure necessary for regular operation and decreasing power consumption. Methods: A quadratic regression orthogonal rotation combination experiment is conducted using a self-made experiment bench, considering ground speed, wind pressure, and seeding rate as the experiment factors. Furthermore, a comparative experiment involving a novel centrifugal variable-diameter type metering device. Results: The results indicate optimal seeding performance when the ground speed is 13.2 km/h, the wind pressure is 1.2 kPa, and the feeding rate is 25 seeds/s. Under these conditions, the quality of feed index reaches 95.20%, the multi-index is 3.87%, and the miss index is 0.93%. Findings reveal that the developed seed metering device achieved a quality of feed index exceeding 93.00% across varying speeds of 12~18 km/h, aligning with the production requirements. Moreover, the actual power consumption of Type B and C is about 85.00% and 98.00% lower than Type A, standing at only 32.90 W at 18 km/h. The COP of Type C is about 86 times and 12 times that of Type A and B, respectively, meeting the demands for efficient production of maize seed metering devices. Discussion: In comparison to traditional design and structural parameter optimization methods for maize seed metering device, this study is helpful to the sustainable development of maize industry and reduce environmental pollution. The study was carried out on the effects of using sugar syrup inverted with commercially available confectionery invertase as a supplement bee feed on the quality of bee honey. The results revealed an increased level of absorption; an increased level of HMF (2-hydroxymethyl-2-fufuraldehide), as well as high levels of Cu. The blue colour, which was revealed when adding Carraz I (K4Fe(CN)6.3H2O) and Carraz II (Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O) solutions was associated with high levels of Fe, contained in the beet sugar syrup, inverted with confectionery invertase. Portable infrared-based instruments have made important contributions in different research fields. Within the dairy supply chain, for example, most of portable devices are based on near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and are nowadays an important support for farmers and operators of the dairy sector, allowing fast and real-time decision-making, particularly for feed and milk quality evaluation and animal health and welfare monitoring. The affordability, portability, and ease of use of these instruments have been pivotal factors for their implementation on farm. In fact, pocket-sized devices enable nonexpert users to perform quick, low-cost, and nondestructive analysis on various matrixes without complex preparation. Because bovine colostrum (BC) quality is mostly given by the IgG level, evaluating the ability of portable NIRS tools to measure antibody concentration is advisable. In this study we used the wireless device SCiO manufactured by Consumer Physics Inc. (Tel Aviv, Israel) to collect BC spectra and then attempt to predict IgG concentration and gross and fine composition in individual samples collected immediately after calving (<6 h) in primiparous and pluriparous Holstein cows on 9 Italian farms. Chemometric analyses revealed that SCiO has promising predictive performance for colostral IgG concentration, total Ig concentration, fat, and AA. The coefficient of determination of cross-validation (R2 CV) was in fact ≥0.75). Excellent accuracy was observed for dry matter, protein, and S prediction in cross-validation and good prediction ability in external validation (R2 CV ≥ 0.93; the coefficient of determination of external validation, R2 V , was ≥0.82). Nonetheless, SCiO's ability to discriminate between good- and low-quality samples (IgG ≥ vs. < 50 g/L) was satisfactory. The affordable cost, the accurate predictions, and the user-friendly design, coupled with the increased interest in BC within the dairy sector, may boost the collection of extensive BC data for management and genetic purposes in the near future. Low quality feeds are an impediment to sustainable fish farming in East Africa. Low quality feeds affect fish growth, pollute the aquatic ecosystem, escalate conflicts among competing water resource users, and affect enterprise sustainability. We investigated the physical and nutrient attributes, and the aflatoxin levels of selected fish feeds in E. Africa. The actual crude protein and crude lipid of the feeds deviated from the package quoted values by −20 to 7% and −5.5 to 9.6%, respectively. All feeds were inadequate in essential minerals, and their aflatoxin levels were low (range: 8.71 ± 0.52 to 71.90 ± 0.59 µg/kg). We highlight the potential effects of using low-quality feeds on the fed fish, aquatic ecosystem, and aquaculture sustainability in East Africa. The tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon Fabicius, 1798) is a popular Indonesian fishery product with high market value both domestically and internationally. Its high nutritional value makes it a valuable product that is in high demand. Along with increased production, various challenges appeared in management and feed quality aspects. Multi-enzymes are one method for increasing the tiger shrimp productivity. This study aimed to identify the dose of multi-enzymes in the feed that leads to an optimal growth performance, and optimum activity of digestive enzymes (amylase, protease, lipase), as well as improving the essential amino acids index in the shrimp body. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications each, thus 12 experimental units were applied. The treatments used were A at 0%/kg feed, B at 40%, C at 60%, and D at 80%/kg feed. The experimental animal was the tiger shrimp with a mean weight of 0.07g/ ind. The shrimps were reared in the hatchery laboratorium of the Marine Science and Fishery Faculty, Hasanuddin University, Makassar. The parameters examined were essential amino acid index (EAAI), essential amino acid score (EAAS), enzyme type activity, specific growth rate (SGR), relative weight gain (RWG), survival rate (SR), and protein efficiency ratio (PER). The results showed that feed with 80% multienzyme/kg provided the highest EAAI compared to other doses, namely 2.64. In addition, the most EAAS deficiency occurred in methionine EAA, namely 9.29 in multi-enzyme feed with a dose of 40%/kg. SGR, RWG, and PER were not significantly different (P> 0.05), but SR showed a significant difference (P< 0.05). The main purposes of feed additives administration are to increase feed quality, feed utilization, and the performance and health of animals. For many years, antibiotic-based feed additives showed promising results; however, their administration in animal feeds has been banned due to some public concerns regarding their residues in the produced milk and meat from treated animals. Some microorganisms have desirable properties and elicit certain effects, which makes them potential alternatives to antibiotics to enhance intestinal health and ruminal fermentation. The commonly evaluated microorganisms are some species of bacteria and yeasts. Supplementing microorganisms to ruminants boosts animal health, feed digestion, ruminal fermentation, animal performance (meat and milk), and feed efficiency. Moreover, feeding microorganisms helps young calves adapt quickly to consume solid feed and prevents thriving populations of enteric pathogens in the gastrointestinal tract which cause diarrhea. Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Lactococcus, Bacillus, Enterococcus, Bifidobacterium, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Aspergillus oryzae are the commonly used microbial feed additives in ruminant production. The response of feeding such microorganisms depends on many factors including the level of administration, diet fed to animal, physiological status of animal, and many other factors. However, the precise modes of action in which microbial feed additives improve nutrient utilization and livestock production are under study. Therefore, we aim to highlight some of the uses of microorganisms-based feed additives effects on animal production, the modes of action of microorganisms, and their potential use as an alternative to antibiotic feed additives. The current study assessed the effects of covering corn silage with tomato or apple pomace on fermentability and feed quality. The in vitro gas production test was performed using graded 100 mL syringes. Incubation times were 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h. In vitro gas generation characteristics were significantly altered by TP (tomato pomace) and AP (apple pomace), both alone and in conjunction with PE (polyethylene) films, regardless of their presence. As a result of the effects found on NH3-N concentration, aerobic stability, and yeast activity, TP and AP have the potential to become an eco-friendly alternative to PE films. The gas production from the immediately soluble fraction (a) of corn silage was only affected when the corn silage was covered with a combination of AP and PE compared to the CPE group (p < 0.001). The largest cluster includes correlations of the DOM-TDDM (r = 0.90), DOM-AA (r = 0.88), and Ash-TDDM (r = 0.86) correlations. The most substantial negative correlations were identified between DM-CO2 (r = −82), DM-Yeast (r = −0.79), and CF-DOM (r = −0.79). Nonetheless, the use of pomace as a silage cover presents an inexpensive alternative to plastic films for silage that does not have the environmental problems associated with persistent micro- and nanoplastics. Slow-charging electric vehicle (EV) loads are single-phase loads in the power distribution network (PDN). The random access of these EVs to the network brings to the forefront the split-phase voltage quality issues. Therefore, a two-layer EV charging strategy considering split-phase voltage quality is proposed in this paper. Issues with voltage unbalance (VU), split-phase voltage deviation (VD), and split-phase voltage harmonics (VHs) are included in the optimization objective model. An upgraded version of the multi-objective non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used in the inner layer of the model and to pass the generated EV phase selection scheme to the outer layer. The outer layer consists of a split-phase harmonic current algorithm based on the forward–backward generation method, and feeds the voltage quality calculation results to the inner layer. After several iterations, the optimal EV phase selection scheme can be obtained when the inner layer algorithm satisfies the convergence condition. The results gained for the example indicate that the suggested EV charging approach can effectively handle the PDN's split-phase voltage quality. As this is a meta-study, we examined whether plant species diversity in the feed and the possibility of feed choice would influence the number of cases of photosensitization in farm animals. We evaluated 110 scientific references which described 172 cases of photosensitization worldwide, mainly in husbandry animals between 1926 and 2022. More than 50% of the cases occurred in South America and Australia. Among the animal species, sheep and cattle were statistically overrepresented. A total of 35 organisms were revealed to be phototoxic: 24 herbs, 2 grasses, 7 woody species, and 2 kinds of fungi. Animals developed mainly secondary photosensitization due to fresh feed (71.8%) of normal quality (88.1%), indicating that the phototoxic agents are from liver-toxic plants such as the grass Brachiaria and the herb Froelichia. Horses fell ill chiefly with primary photosensitization due to directly acting phototoxic agents of plant species such as the herbs Medicago and Pastinaca, both in fresh and conserved feed. Goats manage to avoid phototoxic plants under both high and low feed diversity if they still have free choice between plant species. High feed diversity reduced the incidence 2.4-fold, while enabled selection possibility even reduced it 7.5-fold. Since the lack of choice between forage plants was revealed to be the main cause of photosensitization, this knowledge could be used to prevent the disease in livestock. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High-voltage discharge plasma drying (HVDPD) is a non-thermal and efficient drying technique. In this study, we compared the drying characteristics and physicochemical properties of alfalfa dried via HVDPD, hot-air drying (HAD), and natural air-drying (AD) and analyzed the experimental results using infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, colorimetry, and other detection techniques. The results showed that HVDPD had a higher drying rate than AD and saved more energy than HAD. Alfalfa dried via HVDPD had the most intact internal structure, the highest rehydration ratio (RR), the best color quality, and the best nutrient retention, resulting in the highest relative quality and feeding value. Therefore, HVDPD is an excellent drying technique for alfalfa, providing a new and effective way to improve the storage, transportation, and drying quality of alfalfa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Meat from sheep offers an abundance of essential amino acids and trace elements essential for optimal human health and a delectable culinary delight. Because it has fewer calories and a lower cholesterol content than other meats, this succulent meat is not only delicious but also a nutritious choice. Globally, discriminating consumers have expressed profound appreciation for its irresistible flavor and nutritious composition. High-quality sheep breeds and lamb quality are in the spotlight as the market for sheep meat grows. Nevertheless, the demand for rapid growth and the use of antibiotics and other drugs have led to a shortage of high-quality mutton on the market. In the face of this emergency phenomenon, people add organic matter to the growth of mutton to improve the quality of mutton. This paper discusses the comprehensive evaluation methods of meat quality; summarizes the relationship between the nutritional components of meat and diet; discusses the genetic factors affecting meat quality attributes; feed nutrition, feeding methods, mutton storage methods, and related measures to improve the quality of mutton; and provides information on the current status of mutton and the challenges of ensuring high-quality meat supply in the future. Panicum virgatum L., also known as switchgrass, is a warm season short-day, C4-perennial crop gaining attention in feedstock production. The harvest stage of the forage crops and the cultivars used directly affect the feed quality as animal feed. In this study, differences were evaluated in various macro element contents of switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) cultivars at different harvest stages. Eight different switchgrass cultivars (Alamo, BoMaster, Kanlow, Cave in Rock, Long Island, Shawnee, Shelter, and Trailblazer) were evaluated in the study. According to the results of the study, significant differences were found among the cultivars studied for phosphate (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg). The Long Island cultivar had the highest mineral concentration (0.223% P, 1.049% K, 0.581% Ca, and 0.201% Mg). As harvest proceeded, the levels of P and K in the plants decreased while the levels of Ca and Mg increased. The highest P (0.223%) and K (1.030%) values were obtained from plants harvested at the pre-flowering stage, while the highest Ca (0.538%) and Mg (0.183%) values were obtained from plants harvested at the full flowering stage. Switchgrass cultivars were found to be insufficient to meet animal needs for P and Ca content throughout the plant’s harvest stages. Mg was found to be sufficient in all harvest stages, while K was sufficient in the first two harvest stages, pre-flowering and 50% flowering, but insufficient in the full flowering stage. The dry matter’s Ca/P ratio, regardless of cultivar or harvest stage, posed no risk to animal health. The K/(Ca+Mg) ratio varied between 0.807 and 1.235 depending on the cultivar and harvest stage. This ratio does not pose any risk to animal health. Based on these results, it would be appropriate to supplement feed rations with materials containing P and Ca or to use switchgrass in animal feeding together with feeds rich in these minerals when using dry matter obtained from switchgrass cultivars alone as roughage. In general, although Panicum virgatum has an important potential as a feed source in animal nutrition, it needs to be supplemented with nutrient-containing additives. It would also be appropriate to determine the nutrient content of these varieties under different ecological conditions.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of different irrigation frequency and levels on silage sorghum plant for yield and quality at the Bingöl University Agricultural Research and Application Field in 2022 using the Master BMR variety as plant material. Randomized complete blocks applying the split-plots experimental design with three replications was used; four irrigation levels (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) and four irrigation frequencies (5, 10, 15 and 20 days) were considered as treatments. Percentage of moisture replacement was determined using total moisture loss from evapotranspiration (ET). Amount of water discharged by emitters were predetermined, hence, time was used to determine the exact amount. Properties related to green forage yield, dry matter yield, crude protein ratio, crude protein yield, acid detergent insoluble fibre, neutral detergent insoluble fibre, digestible dry matter, dry matter consumption and relative feed value were investigated. Statistically significant differences between all the examined features were observed. The highest green forage yield, dry matter yield and crude protein yield were obtained from 5-day frequency and 100% level. Highest crude protein ratio from 5-day frequency and 25% level, lowest acid detergent insoluble fibre rate and highest digestible dry matter rate from 20-day frequency and 25% level, highest dry matter intake and relative feed value with the lowest neutral detergent insoluble fibre rate were observed from 25% level with 10 and 20-day frequencies. In conclusion; it can be stated that, to obtain high yield from silage sorghum, it is necessary to irrigate at 5 days frequencies and 100% level. However, high-quality product can be obtained with a 10-day frequency and a 25% level with low yield.

The aim of this research is to explore the potential effects of two microalgae-based additives included in finishing feeds on the quality and shelf-life of seabream fillets. In a 41-day feeding trial, seabream specimens were fed with experimental aquafeeds containing 10% of the bioactive supplements. These additives consisted of a blend of Nannochloropsis gaditana and Arthrospira platensis biomass, which was utilized as either raw (LB-CB) or enzymatically hydrolyzed (LB-CBplus). A control group received a microalgae-free diet. The results showed that the functional aquafeeds improved the nutritional profile of seabream fillets, increasing protein and PUFA-n3 contents while reducing the atherogenic index, especially for the LB-CBplus treatment. LB-CBplus also enhanced the texture parameters (hardness and chewiness) of fillets during the initial 5 days under cold storage. Regarding skin pigmentation, fillets showed increased greenish and yellowish coloration compared to control fish, mostly attributed to the inclusion of crude algal biomass (LB-CB). Moreover, diets enriched with microalgae additives effectively delayed muscle lipid oxidation processes under refrigeration for up to 12 days, with LB-CBplus exhibiting higher antioxidant effects.
