The fear of violence at work may influence nurses’ intention to migrate. Additionally, psychological well‐being may impact this process. However, the impact of the fear of violence at work on the intention to migrate, as well as the moderating effect of psychological well‐being in a nursing context, is not well understood.We conducted this cross‐sectional study on a sample of 221 nurses from two public hospitals. We collected survey data between November 2022 and January 2023 using three scales. We analyzed the data using SPSS, AMOS, and HAYES. We followed the STROBE statement guidelines for cross‐sectional studies.Nurses reported a moderate intention to migrate and a moderate to high level of fear of violence and psychological well‐being. Fear of violence is positively associated with the intention to migrate. Mediation analyses indicated that the association between fear of violence and intention to migration was mediated by psychological well‐being.The fear among nurses of being exposed to violence increases their intention to migrate. However, high psychological well‐being can reduce this intention.Nursing managers, policymakers, and decision‐makers need to take serious precautions against the fear of violence in the future and make necessary improvements for nurses who witness violence. Criminology has been hampered by a lack of longitudinal data to examine the consequences of victimisation. However, recently, 'Understanding Society', the United Kingdom Household Panel Survey (UKHLS), began fielding a small battery of questions relating to violence experience. Here, we examined the strengths and weaknesses of these UKHLS measures with similar indices from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW), a widely used and regarded but cross-sectional survey. We empirically assessed the extent to which the UKHLS variables are comparable with those in the CSEW to determine the viability of the UKHLS for the longitudinal study of (fear of) violence and its consequences. Overall, we regarded the UKHLS to provide an important resource for future panel research on the consequences of victimisation. We found the indicators measuring physical assault to be similar in both sets of data, but also noted differences in prevalence and/or different distributions by socioeconomic group for the indices relating to being threatened and of feeling unsafe. Likewise, the literature is also beginning to reveal negative psychological effects related to distress and hypervigilance and sociological implications around diminished community engagement and economic opportunity. However, there remains a need to fully explore the role of fear related to the experience of gun violence. Through a qualitative inquiry consisting of community resident focus groups and community leader interviews, this study examined how participants’ perceptions of fear related to their exposures to and experiences of gun violence. The findings highlight the pervasive emotional experience of existing in a fearful, distressed, and/or anxious state within certain communities, and how civic disengagement, neighborhood disconnection, and economic disenfranchisement exist in communities that disproportionately experience violence. Workplace violence in healthcare organizations is a growing problem in Turkey. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of violence and witnessed violence on the fear of future violence and turnover intention in health care workers and mediating role of fear of violence in the effect of direct violence and witnessed violence on turnover intention. The population of the study was 299 health care workers. Validity and reliability analyses of the scales were carried out and it was found that each scale was valid and reliable. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistical methods and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results showed that Direct Violence at Work and Witnessed Violence at Work have a significant effect on Fear of Future Violent Events at Work and Turnover Intention. The effect of Direct Violence at Work and Witnessed Violence at Work on Turnover Intention is further increased when the Fear of Future Violent Events at Work is used as a mediating variable. Violence affects those witnessing it as well as the direct victims. This affects both the fear of violence and the turnover intention. Serious precautions should be taken to prevent violence against health workers in order to protect and improve the health of society. In this article, we examine the correlates of fear of violence in the cross-media landscape. The study draws on the Finnish National Crime Victim Survey (n = 6,141, respondents aged 15–74 years). First, we examine from what information and media sources respondents receive information on violent crime. We then examine how consumption of different types of media and information sources on violent crime associates with the contemporary experience of fear of street violence, avoidance behavior due to threat of violence, and perceived threat of terrorism to oneself. This article investigates the prevalence and determinants of fear as a consequence of living through armed conflict. We use survey data from Nepal during the armed conflict (1996–2006) to examine how trauma, sex and gender, age, marriage, and household size affect fear of violence. We also disaggregate types of worry, and find substantial variance on whether respondents were more concerned about livelihood consequences of conflict than physical danger. We supplement quantitative analyses with discussion of in-depth interviews from the study area on these same topics. Overall, our results highlight the enduring impact of gender roles in Nepal and that conflict might disproportionately affect those who are already vulnerable and have greater social responsibilities. This article provides a unique comparison between fear of violence during armed conflict in a low-income country to the fear of crime literature based in high-income countries. This paper explores women's perceptions of sources of vulnerability to Violence Against Women (VAW) in urban public spaces and their response to this violence. The urban space of Corregidora municipality in Querétaro, Mexico was used as a case study. First-hand data on different types of VAW was gathered through 7 focus group discussions held with 50 women. The Socio-Ecological Framework (SEF) was used to analyse VAW at different levels, using a Social Construction of Space lens as a supportive conceptual framework to explore women's experience of VAW in public spaces. A Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design approach was used to develop targeted recommendations at each level of the SEF. The results show that improvements in infrastructure could be a way forward to prevent VAW in public spaces, such as the provision of lighting, reducing narrow access routes, sidewalks improvement and prioritisation of pedestrian mobility, rather than leaving the burden of responsibility of personal safety and protection to women. • Women's vulnerability sources can be categorised into personal, socio-cultural or situational • Women adopt different coping mechanisms to increase personal protection • Coping strategies include time-space avoidance, physical defence, environmental responses and other active measures • Violence Against Women is under-reported and invisibilised by official figures • There is potential to address Violence Against Women at community and social levels through urban improvement [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In planning contexts, safety is often discussed from a women’s perspective. An ideal site for exploring some of the key issues is Umeå, a medium-sized town in northern Sweden. Here, attention to women’s fear of violence greatly increased at the turn of the century, when a single repeat offender known as the ‘Haga Man’ assaulted several women in the city. People’s (especially women’s) fear of violence came to be seriously recognised, discussed and taken into consideration in the city’s planning. The present research is based on an analysis of empirical data collected in 2008, through interviews with people who in various ways work to increase safety in Umeå. The paper addresses how the informants define the problem of fear of violence in public space and the strategies they employ to address it, what could be described as the analytical-practice paradox, as the results show the difficulties of integrating gender-aware planning into planning practice. L. who accused the appellant for assault and stalking contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 4A(1)(b)(i) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 respectively.

This study analyses the responses and reactions among women in Umeå during the period of threat from the Haga Man: a serial rapist operating between 1998 and 2006, and highlights how women in this new situation handled feelings of vulnerability and fear of violence in public space. The article analyses the ways women positioned themselves in their narratives and how this could be understood in terms of how they negotiated spaces for agency within a context where public space has been represented as safe and gender-equal. Women’s fear of violence is discussed in relation to Swedish gender equality discourses and contextual constructions of femininity. The research is based on empirical data collected through in-depth interviews with women in Umeå. The results show the difficulties of claiming the official position of a gender-equal femininity. The informants’ ambivalence, and partly anger, in relation to a femininity they wanted but could not have also created an opportunity for critique of women’s position in society and thus a challenge to a presumed gender equality that stands in the way of addressing issues of gendered power relations. Women's fear of violence can impact negatively on their active participation in life. An ageing survey conducted with 2,620 Australian respondents aged 50 to 90 years examined aspects of work. learning, social, spiritual and emotional status, health, vision, home, life events, demographics, and asked an open-ended question about what being actively engaged in life meant. Ordinal regression was carried out on two dependent variables: wanting and needing to learn to discourage violence. Analyses found that as women's age increased, those on lower incomes were more likely than others to say they needed to learn how to discourage violence against them. This paper investigates the variables associated with the findings-transport, finances, news media, home safety, and reduced social interactions. Fear of violence appears to be widespread among women, and many feminist scholars attribute such fear to gender inequality at a societal level. The present article uses qualitative interviews with 32 women older than the age of 50 to determine the context in which women perceive violence in their neighborhoods and communities and how their present experience with fear and violence differs from childhood experience. The authors also assess the various mechanisms women employ to keep themselves safe from harm and how daily routines are altered to avoid violence.
